Ah yes, Daniel's. The bakery of my childhood, and coming back to it, it always brings me back to those good times of tamagotchi pets, wheelies, and Pokemon cards. All those are now gone sadly, but Daniel's lives on. Granted the owners are new, but I'm glad the mainstays of French bread loaves, Gingerbread cookies, and Lemon Meringue pies are still as good as ever. Those are the only three things I get, and man are they nice (though the cakes have been a birthday tradition for me since I could eat solid foods). The prices are still ridiculously low ($2 for a gingerbread man, and you can pick who that guy is on the cookie -- Elmo is my favorite). Really wish they brought back the make-your-own-cookie days, but I'm not complaining. Daniel's will always be my go-to bakery, and the Brighton staple that it has become over the years.

All I've had from Daniel's is their cake and cupcakes, but both have always been as expected/ordered and tasty. I've never ordered anything particularly complicated from them, just simple cakes with buttercream frosting, fruit filling, and some flowers and words (in specified colors). They've always had the cakes ready for pick-up at whatever time I've requested, and their prices are very reasonable. Will definitely order from them again.

It's tradition now. Every Valentines day- Greg goes to Daniel's and gets the 2 monster (both HUGE and shaped like monsters) cupcakes. He claims we will split them, but I end up eating both. The frosting is UNBELIEVABLE, and the shape/decor is just so cute. One time, I went to get some just for the heck of it, and also got a collection of other cookies. After meeting the staff/owners- it is a typical old-school family run place. They don't really care about how it looks (its an empty store), and there wasn't much personality. However, food based -- Everything was very very fresh. Delicious, delicious, delicious.

Looks like its been there all day, and we were inside for 5 minutes in an empty store before anyone said anything. That nonsense makes me walk right back out the door.

When you go to a bakery you expect fresh baked goods. The half moons were stale so they must have been day old. Simply put there is no excuse for items to be anything but fresh when purchasing from a bakery. Day old should be labeled "day old". This is the first time back to the bakery in a few years so I am wondering if they have changed hands. In addition one of the clerks behind the counter was using bare hands instead of wax paper sheets to bag cupcakes for another customer.

This review is specifically for the strawberry cream puff. They really do taste like strawberries and heavy whipped cream. With some strawberry jam in there. The taste is just okay. At $3/each, wasn't really worth it in my opinion, but again this review is solely for the strawberry cream puffs.

This is my go-to bakery because its location is most convenient for me and their treats are very tasty. The strawberry shortcake cakes are AMAZING. I have bought three in the past couple of months for friends' birthdays, and everyone who tries a piece loves it. The frosting is a light and fluffy cream topping and tastes fresh. The coconut bread that they have is also very good, as are the various cookies. The other day, I saw the people in the back box an extremely impressive 2-ft Minnie Mouse cake. Although I haven't tasted these specialty cakes, I would definitely place my order with these guys just going off of aesthetics. If you are looking for a big (or even small) wedding cake, birthday cake, or any specially-made cake, check this place out. The reason for my 4-star review, instead of a 5-star one, is due to the inconsistent customer service I have received. I stop by here at least once every two weeks, and each time, depending on who is helping me, I receive different levels of service, from friendly and helpful to cold and a bit rude.

Daniels is my family's go to place for birthday cakes. Their cakes with strawberries and whip cream are the best.

I've lived down the street from this place for 9 months, and have walked past it dozens of times, but hadn't stepped in until on lazy Saturday in December. Wow, what a great bakery! Daniel's is what a bakery should be: no frills... just friendly staff dishing out amazing carb-a-licious treats. It's not just a place to get a croissant or bagel -- you've got cookies, cakes, loaves of every kind of bread you can imagine, cupcakes, quiche, pie, and more. After my boyfriend got a cookie and I got a small quiche, we enjoyed it thoroughly and declared Daniel's to be our go-to bakery from now on! There is no parking lot, so get ready to park on the street. Also, from the outside this place looks a little divey... but give it a shot!

I'm very confused as to why the reviews are so high. Maybe I came on an off day. I came in the evening on a Wednesday... maybe business wasn't that good this week and everything was just leftovers but nothing was fresh. They all tasted like days-old cardboard. The only thing decent was the black and white cookie (which btw does not taste like a real black and white cookie. The icing was just whipped cream of some sort.) The other cookies and pastries were stale. The service was also terrible. The people in the bakery spent the entire time bickering with each other and completely didn't pay attention to us. We were just trying to order and get out! Also, the bakery was just really sterile looking. Bleh. There are SO MANY other better bakeries in town than this place.

I'm not a huge fan of bakeries. Usually they're overpriced and rarely do they offer products any better than what you'd find in a grocery store. Well, Daniel's is a cut above the rest. This place offers delicious cupcakes, amazing cakes, fantastic breads and remarkable confectionaries. It's become one of my favorite places since moving to Brighton, with a variety of awesome sale items on the rolling rack by the front window throughout the day. Oh yeah, I know this is a pro tip and will ruin things for me, but before you check out the vast selection of cakes and sweets in the glass cases, check out that tower by the door. Their muffins are fantastic, and they offer yesterday's breads on sale at a MASSIVE markdown, and they add things as the day goes by. I've gotten cupcakes at a dollar a half-dozen, scones and muffins by the bag for about three bucks, and loaves of raisin, cinnamon, Italian, egg and challah bread for far less than their retail. These items are only a day old, usually, and their donuts are a much better value once they move to this rack. Staff are generally friendly, but the Spanish-speaking crowd tends to get better treatment. Also, there is a $10 minimum for credit cards, but if you come up short, just get a three-pack of their huge chocolate chip cookies.

Needed a birthday cake for a small get together and wanted to avoid the usual grocery store chain terrible birthday cakes. I spotted a 7' German chocolate in the display and ordered one with writing for about $14. I ordered it Thursday, picked it up that Saturday. Really nice icing balloons and lettering and the cake was delicious. They also have two large books of birthday cake designs including the typical Disney, Barbie, etc. I would definitely recommend buying a cake from here. One tip, minimum credit card purchase is $10 so I ran into a little bit of a pickle because I had prepaid for the cake and only thought of the candles when I went to pick it up and had no cash. Not a huge deal but good to know.

I called to pre order some pies for Thanksgiving. A woman answered the phone and asked for my name phone number and type of payment before we even concluded what I wanted. I told her what I'd like and she asked medium or large so I asked how many a medium feeds. She said "it's not like that. We don't know how much a medium makes for slices. It depends if a fat person wants a big slice." I said excuse me!? She repeated "if a fat person wants a big slice a medium won't feed too much. You're being too needy with questions. We are busy." Talk about ignorant. Her accent was difficult to understand so I thought perhaps I heard her wrong... NOPE! So I told her nevermind and ended the call. Well she called me back and told me I wasted her time. I've never experienced that in my life. What a psycho. This place gets an F in my book.

This bakery is AMAZING!!! I was walking on Washington st and stumbled into this place. I found out it's a family owned bakery that has been around for 55 years! The service here is always friendly and warm. I think the older family members may not know English too well but their daughter is always there to help explain or recommend things. Everything is baked fresh and they have an assortment of bread, sweet bread, cookies, cakes, pastries, etc. They definitely have some goodies that I have never seen before and I haven't tried anything I haven't liked yet. So it's nice to grab a cup of coffee and some random goodies that catches my eyes. I HIGHLY recommend the raspberry and guave cookies with powdered sugar on them. It's made really really well! It's sweet (not overly) and it's a little chewy haha I'm a sucker for chewie cookies Plus, everything in here is seriously cheap!! I got a box of a large pastry and 9 cookies for only $5.60!!! I'll definitely come back and try more of their pastries and the fact that they are family owned makes me want to support them even more. You just don't find fresh homemade goodies like this anymore. Check it out :)

At first glance, Daniel's is the kind of old-fashioned neighborhood bakery that I want to love, but unfortunately can't. It's just too hit-or-miss, tending towards miss. One thing it does have going for it is that it's cheap, hence the two stars. But you get what you pay for, in this case. I've had a few good items, like the cream puffs with whipped cream, but a lot of bad ones too. Recently, I had two small cupcakes- one had fresh cake and tasty frosting, the other had flavorless white frosting on cake that tasted like it was a week old (and I'm a baker, so I'm not exaggerating.) And another item I had was supposed to have a pudding-style filling that was suspiciously gelatinous and tasted like it had been made with sour milk. It was nasty! The cookies are dry and tasteless. The breads are basic but decent if you like things plain, however I'll stick with Iggy's or When Pigs Fly. The service is variable as well. I've been helped quickly; I've also been ignored when I was the only person in the bakery. Personally, Daniel's the kind of bakery that could be great, but I expect it will take a new owner and some updated recipes to get there.

I was extremely disappointed last week when I ordered a cake here with a photograph on top. When I arrived, the owner told me that their internet was down and she 'thought of calling me'. I only had an hour to get the cake to my party and was extremely angry. I could have gone to another bakery if I had known, but instead had to bring a plain white cake. Awful customer service, awful professionalism. Awful.

Great consistency for a place to get fresh strawberry and cream cake. This bakery has been around for many years. They obviously know what they are doing.

Daniel's Bakery makes amazing cakes, cookies and other goodies. Unfortunately, a recent customer service mishap has lost them my business forever. I buy birthday cakes for the employees in my office every month, for many years from Daniel's. While Daniel's generally does not require me to put down a deposit on their cakes because of our long business with them, recently I had another employee call and order a cake when I was out sick, and I told them to give my name, the order was placed, and they said no problem, and that the cake would be made the next day, when we wanted it. When someone from our office went to pick up the cake on the day of, she found that the cake was not made, and the clerk said that it was because no deposit was put down on the cake. They had our phone number, but they chose not to call us, they just didn't make the cake. They gave her an attitude. I then called them and expressed my displeasure with the situation, and whoever answered was very rude and said that they don't know if people are going to not show up and buy the cakes, and I reminded them that for many years I had been buying cakes from them, and she said it didn't matter. I told her that because of this incident and because of her attitude, we'd never buy from Daniel's again. She told me that she didn't care and hung up on me. Rude, rude, rude. They make an amazing product, but sadly I refuse to be treated like that, and I will never go there again. They are also expensive, but I've been willing to pay the price for the quality.

I am very picky towards on bread, cookies, cakes and never usually find anything good because taste all something is missing or way too sweet. BUT, this place got good Cream Puffs!!! (Beard papa got good cream but both place the puff shell is still hard and Boston branch is closed.) I was actually disappointed on them not having an actual strawberry inside of Strawberry Cream Puffs. Using strawberry Jam not that they are using their own made jam( that would be too much work ) but it is only whipped cream and no Custard Cream in it but the Cream taste soooooooo good that will give 4 stars just only for that. I also bought Lemon Meringue Pie and the Meringue part was so good! Not too sweet and meringue, cream and the pie part was balanced well! Lemon custard part was totally old fashion so I am not that much fan of it because of the yellow color looks so food coloring but more I tried, kinda got addicted to it! They have a sale section ( probably from day before ) that you can get it cheaper! I grabbed some bread for super cheap and amazed me but even at the normal cost, you will satisfy for what you get. I wanted to go back to get more Cream Puffs today but they are closed on Sunday! Going back tomorrow~

Just an FYI- The cheese bread, small and large cheese balls and rice pudding are all naturally gluten-free. These breads are baked on separate pans and are made with Yuka flour.. You can just come in and get em right out of the case! They understand gluten sensitivity at Daniel's and they will be pleasant and helpful about cross-contamination. The Macaroons can also be made flourless, just call and request it a day ahead! I can't tell you if they taste different, but they basically melt in your mouth.

So yummy! only bakery around that makes ALMOND croissants EVERY DAY! AND, they're super flakey, super almondy smooth filling, anddd, they're $1.40!!!!! ummm, I've always paid at least double elsewhere! so, this is officially my new fave place for croissants. i also tried their thin cookies and wasn't much of a fan, that's why 4 instead of 5 stars

I just got a birthday cake from Daniel's with Passion fruit filling. It was absolutly devine. The cake was unfortunately gone way too fast. The order process was easy and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

So I'm going to try not to be biased since one of my best friends is the sole cake decorator at Daniel's Bakery, but I held a meetup event there with 7 other people this morning and we all had a great time. Everybody's baked goods were delicious, one girl noted she comes for their fresh breads all the time cuz she lives close and they're so tasty, and I've had birthday cakes from there that I enjoyed before my friend ever started working there. Also, because my friend is the cake decorator, I've gotten to see her portfolio, and she makes some absolutely beautiful cakes. This morning we got to see the finished product of a Mardi Gras cake she did, which was amazing! The bakery was tasty, the cake was good, the pumpkin coffee was absolutely perfect for a rainy morning. The bakery could benefit from more seating, but my only real complaint is that there are NO prices listed on anything. It's a shame, too, because everything is totally reasonably priced - My medium (large) coffee, my deliciously fresh dulce de leche donut, my almond stick, and my molasses cookie all totaled only $5, but I wouldn't have known the price range if my friend didn't work there, and probably would have avoided purchasing stuff as a result. So Daniel's - you're doing great, just please please create a price list. Then I'll bump you to five stars :).

3.5 stars Daniel's Bakery has the BEST whipped cream (with fruit) cakes and ice cream cakes I've ever had. Although the frosting is not very smooth, the inside is the more important part. The cake is soft and fluffy as is the whipped cream - perfect sweetness; the ice cream is creamy; the fruit is fresh (get strawberry banana!); and the default decoration is simple, but pretty. You can go all out with the Disney decorations upon request. My family has been ordering from here for every annual occasion since I was a kid. And everyone always asks, "where's the cake from?" I've tried the other confections, but they're not good at all, although gingerbread cookies aren't too bad. Definitely stick with the whole cakes only. Daniel's is also one of the few bakeries that actually delivers!

There are two types of people in this western world: those who love fluffy, Crisco frosting and those who do not. Of course, there are those who don't eat cake. But, I'm not talking about them. I HATE Crisco frosting, and LOVE denser, rich, semi-sweet frosting (like at Party Favors or Zaftig's). Guess which one Daniel's Bakery has? I also tried the cookies, which had a wonderful texture (light and melt-in-your-mouth-goodness), but absolutely NO FLAVOR. I don't get it, and I really don't get the review on Yelp for this bakery! I trust Yelp so much, but I disagree with the majority of the reviews about Daniel's Baked goods. I tried the meringues with chocolate chips, (light, sugary, airy and no flavor); the chocolate chip cookies (which are chewy and soft but have no flavor), and the sugar cookies with frosting, which taste slightly of anise, and have fluffy frosting that has absolutely no flavor. Everything must be made with Crisco, and have very subtle, Supermarket Bakery-flavor. That is, they do not have layers of flavor, or even decadent flavors, just sweet with low-quality chocolate chips, and sort of crispy, light, fluffy frosting with no sweetness, kind of like it's been sitting around. Maybe it's me; I'm used to fancy bakery items from San Francisco, or from Fiore's in JP, and I also love to bake. But, Daniel's Bakery is sorely lacking in flavorful cookies, cakes, or cupcakes. So, two stars: one for inexpensive items and the second for service. No stars for bakery items, though! Don't waste the calories!

What a disappointment!!! We got the chocolate chip canoli, chocolate chip meringue, and an m&m cookie. They all sucked! I have never been so disappointed in baked goods. The canoli was soggy, the meringue was crumbling and the cookie was dry and had a bad flavor! Ugh what a waste of money.....never going back! I will stick with Treat just a few doors down and they are waaay better!

Am I missing something here? Has childhood nostalgia corrupted reviewer's taste buds? Is this entire bakery sugar-free and I don't know it? If I grew up in Brighton would my childhood memories overshadow reality? So I went here for the final time yesterday with my girlfriend. I mentioned to her how I had gone here twice when I first moved to brighton, but that I found the cookies tasteless. She was in a mood to make strawberry shortcake and thought it would be fun to "walk to the neighborhood bakery." I warned her that the only cookies I have ever thrown away uneaten in my entire life, came from this bakery, but apparently she had seen too many French movies and wanted something local. We went in. I mentioned "well, surely they can't mess up angel food cake." Not to mention it was the same price as a grocery store cake, but half the size. Maybe they make up for it in high quality ingredients and fine taste, right? We brought it home. I took a bite and in my head thought that saltines have more flavor. She looked at me. I said it was fine. She tested it herself and within one bite it was in the trash can. Needless to say, I was "driving" to Stop & Shop 2 minutes later.... Never again Daniel's Bakery. Unless I develop Diabetes and need sugar-free desserts...... Pros: 2 blocks from my house Items nicely decorated Cons: Their cookies have absolutely no taste. Thumbs down on angel food cake too. Do I dare try their bread? Conclusion: This is the ULTIMATE bakery for someone who has lost their tastebuds. Every looks nice, has good texture. But no taste.

I'm not sure if many of the Yelpers are aware, but years ago the original family that owned the bakery sold it to the current owners, and in my opinion, that was things went downhill. All items used to be fresh each and every day and you could smell the fresh breads and treats baking, but now about half of what they sell is already days old. I would recommend their fresh loaves but steer clear of the pastries on the opposite side of the store. Overall customer service is excellent and the vibe of the place is quaint, still holds the charm of the past.

I have been buying my kids' birthday cakes from Daniel's Bakery for the past 4-5 years. They have a catalog where you can choose amongst numerous designs or they can make whatever you like. Besides the fun designs for kids, my favorite thing about this bakery is they can use whipped cream instead of heavy, sugary icing most other places use. Their cakes not only look good but taste wonderful. I go there from Cambridge, it is worth the drive! They have other things there as well, such as bread, cookies but I would say their cakes are the best.

I'll start this review with a confession: I lived almost my entire life in a rural Indiana town where a really good bakery couldn't be found for miles. What my hometown lacked in decent cuisine, however, it made up for in churches, church ladies, and bake sales. I'd wager that some of these women could go toe-to-toe with some of the high-end bakeries I've encountered in larger cities & hold their own. My point is, I know what makes a really good cookie. Unfortunately, Daniel's Bakery is not privy to this information...which seems odd given that their entire business is built around selling things that should be tasty! I haven't stepped foot into the bakery, so I can't comment on the service (my better half was kind enough to bring home some treats for us to sample). My rating is based solely on their product...in our case, 3 different cookies. What Daniel's Bakery does well is texture. All 3 cookies had great texture...soft, chewy, melt-in-your mouth, close-to-heaven texture...really amazing! However, with each bite I found myself waiting for flavor...something...anything ...and it never showed up! The cookies, all 3 of them, were completely devoid of flavor. It was the strangest experience to be eating something that felt so good, but tasted like nothing. I actually started to wonder if I was doing something wrong...like, "Maybe if I chew more slowly I'll be able to tast this". Alas, nothing. Purchasing your bakery items from Daniel's would be like buying designer clothes, but all in beige. The fabrics might be the best & feel really good, but you're never going to be satisfied...ever. My best advice would be to skip Daniel's Bakery, head over to Party Favors, Zaftig's, or Fiore's, spend a little more, & enjoy!

All I have to go on is their cherry pie. I usually go to Trader Joe's for all my pie needs. This particular day I did not feel like making the trek there. They have a lot of delicious looking items. I needed to stay on track with what I went there for : pie. They did offer a Boston Creme cupcake that I wanted to try but I held my ground and moved on. The pie was expensive and small. It tasted fine. Nothing to die for. I would get a pie there again if I could not make it to TJ's. I would not, however, go out of my way to get one.

I had two cupcakes from here today, one yellow cake/chocolate icing, the other yellow cake/vanilla icing. The icing on both was delicious - not too sweet, homemade, nice and creamy. The cake, however, was inconsistent. The one with the chocolate icing was extremely dry - I think it was probably at least a day old. The one with vanilla icing had moist, fresh tasting cake. I guess it just depends on your luck. Maybe if you go in the morning everything will be more fresh (although I went mid-afternoon so it still shouldn't have been that dry). The women who work here are really sweet, and although the bakery is a little run-down looking inside and out, it seemed clean. I would probably go back.

I'm not a big pastry/bakery type person, but I often run into Daniel's to buy treats for my students at the nearby middle school. I am always welcomed with a smile and friendly service. They're not pushy, and answer all questions asked- especially since they have some special treats from other cultures (Spanish? Brazilian?) that I don't know what is inside. My students love the decorated cookies, always a hit. I've also run in here for the day-old goods, which are cheap and still tasty if you eat them that day!

We always try to get our cakes from here. The service is average for a mom and pop bakery sometimes extremely nice, but sometimes rude enough to want to cancel your order. GREAT decorator and delicous cakes especially the ones with whip cream. Its not too sweet but full of flavor. I only wish they would list their prices the same size cake price is always different +/- $8. But overall would order again!!! Breads and baked items are good. Give them try.

I gew up in Brighton and my parents would take my siblings and I to Daniel's Bakery all the time while growing up. Back when Daniel still owned and ran the bakey, everything was great and reasonably priced. When Daniel retired in 2007 and sold the business, the quality of food went downhill. Even though the original recipies are used, items don't taste quite the same anymore. And baked goods don't stay fresh for more than a day after purchase. Plus, everything costs at least twice as much and the size of the baked goods has shrunk considerably. I remember eating huge hot cross buns as a kid but those are now barely the size of a mini cupcake and filled with way too much candied fruit. Some of the employees aren't friendly. My parents still live in Brighton but rarely go to Daniel's anymore.

We get our Saturday breakfasts from here. The breads are great and the pastries are good. I love their scones... scones are often too dry and crumbly and yucky, but theirs are just awesome! My other favorite is that mini pecan roll and the cinnamon sugar donut. Never tried their cakes and well, the service could be a tad friendlier. And just one advice: don't try the cinnamon-raisin bread, it s addictive!!!! You ll have to go back for more again and again!

I live about 2 minutes away from Daniel's Bakery and I've always been happy with the birthday cakes I've gotten here. From my Power Rangers cake to Lion King to Barbie - it's never let me down. The service is always friendly even when I ask them to add another button on my Gingerbread. Oh, and I love the clown thing they got on display that does flips when you hold down the button. Giggle.

This is more like 3.5 stars overall. 4 stars for the selection and constant availability. I stopped in here on Christmas Eve to pick up some pies to bring home for the holidays. I decided to go with the apple and chocolate creme. They have a huge stock even not around the holidays. They always lots of cakes-perfect if you need one last minute. I didn't even get to try the apple pie before it was devoured but all loved it obviously, I did get to try to chocolate creme pie that was fantastic. Home made crust and firm chocolate filling with whipped creme. Mmmm. I kept digging into it after a couple days with constant yumminess. The cupcakes however are a little sub par-2.5 stars. They are very nicely decorated but are greasy with grocery store like frosting. The service is always friendly. There are always so many people working in there that you get attention as soon as you walk in.

One of my big issues with bakeries/baked goods is the fact that these places seem incapable of divulging ingredients. The pumpkin loaf is actually pumpkin RAISIN. I feel like main ingredients should be mentioned, but Daniel's doesn't seem to share that opinion. I've also had some some less-than-amazing cookies from here. Bread options have always been pretty good though, hence the extra star.

  • Liz L.

Well, I'm not really into pastries so I've never really gone here too much. But I stopped by one morning and got myself a Ham & Cheese Croissant and some "coconut candy". Oh man... this stuff was great. I didn't even think I really liked croissants! I have also tried their coconut cake and it is delicious! I love coconut! Their displays up front on view to the street may not be updated enough or done properly (the cakes on display will sometimes fall apart or change color)... but hey, whatever. The employees are always nice and they know their business. I will def. be stopping in here more often!

OLD SCHOOL! As old as it can get. For example, my lovely Irish immigrant, Nana would shop here all the time. This place really has not changed much at all. I like their M&M Cookies. But my heart belongs to their unbelivable scrumptious cinnamon raisin bread. It toasts so well!!!

We have lived in Brighton for a long time and every time we need a cake we go to Daniel's in Brighton center. The cakes are always of excellent quality and the service is top notch and friendly every single time without exception. The whipped cream cakes with the strawberries are unbelievably delicious. This would be a 5 star review if not for the last cake I got from them this past weekend. It was my son's HS graduation party and we ordered that large round cake from Daniel's. I looked at the cake in the shop as well as possible, the box was stapled shut and I could just peek through the crack. My son's name was spelled right and the cake was beautiful so I paid and took the cake home. The next day when I opened the box the word "congratulations" was actually "condradulation." They tried to fix the mistake by adding a tail to make it look like a "g" but didn't erase the stem from the "d" so it looked like a d/g hybrid. Oh and they ran out of room for the "s" at the end. This sort of thing doesn't really bother me, and in fact very few people even noticed. But some people get really uptight about that sort of thing so I took away a star. Also, I was a bit disappointed in their cupcakes. Cupcakes are really the "in" thing right now and I'd hope that Daniels would break a bit from their old school ways to offer some interesting varieties of cupcakes, but they haven't. Vanilla and chocolate and a mix of the two. Boring. I'll continue to go to Daniels for all of my cakes. They do a great job for the most part and I love supporting the local businesses in Brighton. I'll just check my cake a bit better next time.

I've only had one item at Daniel's Bakery, and its an item so good that its a 5-star item on its own (I subtracted half a star for parking issues so let's call it 4.5 stars). The strawberry whipped cream cake is as delicious as cakes get. Next time your office has a party (only for someone that everyone likes....the creepy jerk in the corner doesn't deserve a cake of this magnitude) , call ahead in the morning and order one....you won't be disappointed.

OK.... honesty is what we are here for, right? Their frosting is terrible. Haven't tried the bread, haven't tried the regular type food... but when a girl has a cupcake craving and finally finds a cupcake.. it had better have the right frosting. Wow, was that a dissapointing car ride home :(

I'm not too crazy about their cake but the pastry is to die for.

Lots of reviews and variability. The cakes with the whipped cream frosting are the most lovely, wonderful things. Our family truly adores them, they stay light and fresh for days. Just delicious. Cannot comment on counter, service, cookies or anything else. But the cake with whipped frosting is just, wow...

I base the review on a very small sampling, but it turned me off this bakery completely. I got an apple turnover, which was bland and vaguely oily and the dough exploded into a fine powder all over my face. Secondly, an almond pastry, where, granted, the filling was ok (and I'm being charitable because I just happen to be biased towards almond fillings) but the dough was tasteless and overly thick. And it felt very overpriced for what I got. So, perhaps the breads and cakes are better, as some of the reviews suggest, but I don't want to shell out to risk getting something of similar quality.

How does this place still manage to stay in business? Everything is just so blah... I used to order cakes from this place 10+ years ago but no longer.

Usually, the bordering-on-gaudy cakes turn me off from this place, but I was nearby and I needed cookies for a family event.. Damn their cookies are cheap! Ranging from 15 cents to 45 cents per cookie. That's awesome. (Or maybe I am just really going to the wrong places.) I got an assortment of cookies consisting of Swedish Shortbread, Double Chocolate, Chocolate Chip, and Florentines. The lady at the cash register kept asking "will that be it?" which I thought was cruel since I wanted 6 of everything in the store, but I guess she was just doing her job. Aside from rubbing in the fact that I couldn't have everything she was actually very nice. The BF and I then brought the cookies to his family's house for an event the next day. Sadly, the cookies never made it to the event. They made it to the kitchen table and then to various stomachs. They were very good. The florentines weren't quite like the ones my family makes, but a few people suggested that the chocolate chip cookies were some of the best they had ever tasted. Will be back, despite terrifying display cakes.

Stopped in there to browse and I loved the old style bakery counter and the loads of delicious treats! It appears it is a Brazilian family that owns this and they bake bread fresh everyday! There are always decorated cakes in the window! The cookies are awesome and the danish and other treats are fresh and taste great! Very nice staff and decent prices!

Wandered in here one day with my friend and enjoyed looking at the huge variety of baked goods on display. I love that they have a discount rack with day-old goods. I found there an excellent spinach and cheese croissant which was much better than the cheese danish I bought from the counter--much too sweet for my liking. We took the only two seats in the bakery at the booth, but felt uncomfortable being the only ones there. I would feel more relaxed if they had multiple booths or cafe tables set up indoors--they certainly have the space for it.

Service was quick and friendly, though we browsed around for a good five minutes. I settled on the Coconut Flan (Oh my goodness it was unbelievable!) Someone got the chocolate cake with a cherry on top. And someone else got the cappuccino muffin. We also bought a loaf of banana bread to split. The flan alone puts this place at 5 stars for me. It was like a coconut macaroon on the bottom and sweet, perfectly baked flan on top. To die for if you like flan, custard or coconut. The chocolate cake was so-so. Decent but not really good at all. Since I grew up around award winning bakers I can be pretty dang demanding about my baked goods. The cappuccino muffin was different. Not really too coffee flavored, I also tasted a touch of orange and a strange spiciness. I didn't care for my bite but the individual who ordered it was happy. What caused this place to have 3 stars and not 4 was really the banana nut bread. It was dry. Really dry. Too dry. And crumbly. Not very much flavor. Not very sweet. No one liked it and I wouldn't know of anyone who might even. But if you even remotely like flan, seriously get your tail over to Daniel's right now. Or tomorrow. Wait no longer than that. I don't know how I'm going to fit enough exercise into my schedule to burn off those delicious slices of coconut flan because now I just can't live without them!!

Cake came out looking great and tasty, but the customer service on the phone has been terrible. They ask for you to email a picture for a cake and never confirm the receipt of that email and if the picture you sent would be possible. I called back twice and the person who checks email wasn't in. Doesn't anyone else check their email? And can't the person who checks email email back with a confirmation?

Definitely a fan of this place. Good old home town bakery. The frosting on the cake is nice and sugary and the apple cinnamon donuts are to die for. This is the place you go when you are sick and tired of whipped cream frosting as a healthy alternative. Come on, I am just not a fan...give me sugar cause if your gonna go for cake just go for it. Prices are very reasonable as well.

They use less-premium ingredients and they have a portfolio of less-premium items than more upscale bakeries, like Clear Flour or Athans or Cafe Crema. However, I can tell that they painstakingly make all their pastries from these less-premium ingredients, such as canola oil (not butter), processed ingredients (i.e. frozen fruits as opposed to fresh), etc. This place is a step UP from the bakery section of a Shaw's/Star Market, but a big step down from a Whole Foods bakery.

They have a sign on their cake display that says, "We only use REAL cream" I think i crapped in my pants when I saw that. They also had these sugar cookies that had enough frosting on them to rival Party Favors. I needed some bread and I got the French baguette. Then I noticed that they had Portuguese sweet bread!! I almost exploded with joy. They came in little pocket sized rolls. It was so awesome. The outside is really cute, they decorated it with little frosting people, I wanted to eat them, I did. They also had this coconut bread that looked intriguing, but I shall save that for next time. NOM NOM

I had a piece of Daniel's Bakery cake while eating at Sweet Basil in Needham. Let me explain: Sweet Basil does not serve dessert, but they had an event for the folks who work at the restaurant the night before, and they had lots of cake left over, so they were handing out pieces of cake. I guess the woman who works at Daniel's Bakery knows a chef at Sweet Basil. ANYWAY, I got a free piece of delicious cake. It was moist and full of flavor, and reminded me what good cake should taste like. Makes me want to go buy some myself.

Great little bakery. The cookies are very good with nice texture. I bought a loaf of the sesame bread that was delicious. It was also only $1.69. A nice spot for some quick bakery items.

Have been by this place often but don't really like these old school bakeries that haven't been updated since 1970's; however, today I figured I would go and take a look. The place is huge - can't even imagine how they pay the rent - must sell a lot of wholesale? I looked around and saw a lot of boring stuff - unoriginal cookies, cakes, cupcakes - I would question the crap that they might use for frostings or fat in their products. I was intrigued, and it never fails, when I saw they had donuts - can't pass up the chance. There were two flavors - guava and dulce de leche - i love the latter and took one to go and saw a deep fried cheese ring with yuca flour that I thought that I would try. After getting home I had a taste == the cheese and yuca ring is o.k - no need to have another and the donut is shaped like a big ball and I was anticipating that first bite as sank my teeth into the sugar coated, fried dough that was filled with the creamy dulce de leche -- so so. The donut was a little dense and heavy and they filled it by cutting the donut in half and sandwiching the two halves with the dulce de leche-disappointing. There seems to be quite a variety that is offered here, but I can't recommend being a frequent customer - maybe their breads are better?

Soo good! I ordered a birthday cake here and it was fantastic. I went into the bakery a week before I needed the cake - with the holidays approaching I figured they might need more time for custom orders. The staff is very friendly and helped me with all the fixings for the cake. One of my few complaints is that the smallest cake they make feeds 15 people. I was having a small family gathering of 7 people so we had A LOT left over. The best part is the price - $19 for a custom freshly made cake! I would pay that at Stop and Shop and get something not nearly as fresh. I picked up the cake a week later (and the day after a major snowstorm) with no problems whatsoever. Even snow does not stop these wonderful bakers from making delicious cakes and cookies!

I tried their pineapple filling golden cake with whipped cream on top and it is soooooooooo good! The trick is to buy it and keep it in the freezer. Take it out a couple of hours before eating it ...it then tastes like an icecream cake---delicious! JUST AN UPDATE: I went there today and they are no more :(. I have no idea whether they will re-open somewhere else but I am definitely sad and will miss their delicious cakes!

I love this local shop. Lots of variety for such a small business, and the staff is always sweet. The wee quiches are my favorite to grab on my way to work. Jam packed with garlic and butter, I get gourmet digs for lunch for just two bucks. Don't expect to get out of here quickly though, if there is a customer ahead of you. Everyone here is definitely on a South American schedule.

Daniel's Bakery is the only bakery my family and husbands family ever ordered cakes growing up. About 5 years ago, they closed. Now, where would we go for our cakes? Daniel's reopened. We were so excited. We rushed in for a pastries to find when we got home items were moldy. Disgusting to know that they were selling items not baked the same day. To find out, the bakery is no longer owned by original family. Still all these years, I have been thinking and craving our old family favorite, the strawberry shortcake cake. Recently, I went to a baby shower and that was the cake. When it was cut and served, it was frozen. I am now completely over Daniel's knowing that a special ordered cake was not freshly baked. If you are looking for a good old fashioned bakery, go to PATSY'S in Somerville. Great cakes, Italian pastries, and cookies! Patsy's is our new family fave!

Daniel's has the best sourdough round I've ever eaten. I buy one at least once a week and the loaf never makes it through the night. Their cinnamon raisin bread is equally unbelievable, especially toasted with butter. Their cakes are great as well, but I don't buy those as often. Daniel's is one of the main reasons I enjoy living in Brighton.

I ride past this stop everyday to work, wishing it was open for my convenience for an early morning snack. It rarely is, and I always sigh, wanting a donut or a danish. I finally went, in an effort to avoid cooking and buy some cookies for a party. I have never went back on that decisions- except for the cookies. The danishes and bread are a little piece of heaven with it's flaky yet moist dough. I haven't had one that good in a few years. Go, but avoids the cheap cookies, the recipe isn't perfected. Or at least the chocolate chip. I haven't tried all the rest.

My bad! They do accept credit cards. I used one to pay for a cake that I bought for a departing coworker. The cake was excellent! Everyone loved it AND that with which it was frosted. They still need to post their prices though.

Seriously...this place is awesome....and so much more awesome for being in walking distance from my apartment. Definite must-trys are the CINNAMON RAISIN bread and the SWEET COCONUT bread. The cinnamon raisin has just the right amount of spice and fruit and a light sugary sweetness on top...I ate an entire loaf by myself in a day and a half. The coconut bread loaf is huge and it looks like it may go stale fast (I wouldn't know since that was finished quickly as well), it is great thickly sliced and toasted. The EGG bread is fabulous toasted with a little jam or used in a french toast recipe. I think the breads are the thing to go for, but they also have danishes, cupcakes, canolis and the like.

I was advised to get a bday cake here for my daughter second bday party. My sister convinced me that they had the best cakes in town and went onand on about their cakes.I odered in advanced but was told to email a picture that i want on the cake the friday before the party.I called and spoke to a lady wanda who was nice at the time completingf my order over the phone and via email we confirmed that i would pick up 2:oo pm the next day(party started at 3pm.I got a call minutes to 2 telling me that they couldn't open up the pic in the email.I told them they should of called me the day before when I sent the pic not the day of.Daphany told me that they have tons of email and i'm not that important to open it up the day before, she was extremely rude saying that I shouldve ordered way in advance long story short wanda end up being just as rude backing daphany up I got my cake at exactly 2:40and the customer service is the worst I ever experienced I thought the cake would make up for it but the butter cream was really thick cake dry it did not make up for the bad customer service.

My husband and I wanted to support a local business in Brighton so we went to Daniel's to order a cake for our daughter's Christening party. The people behind the counter were not friendly at all. When I asked for assistance, the woman practically threw a book at me and told me to pick a cake from the book. When I asked what kind of filling I could get, I got a one word answer "any". We should've left at that point, but we placed our order anyhow. My husband picked up the cake the following week and the writing on it was crooked and off-center. It looked like something someone's Mom could've baked, not a professionally decorated cake. The flavor of the cake was acceptable, but nothing outstanding.

Best chocolate layer cake I've ever had, hands down. If you don't have a reason to buy an entire cake, try their chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. They're super cheap and super good!

I ordered a Strawberry Shortcake for my boyfriends birthday. It was delicious. All my guests raved and thought it was the best Strawberry Shortcake they ever had. Many layers of white cake, fluffty whipped cream and strawberries. A week later, and I had some still leftover in the fridge. It tastes as god as they day I piked it up! My mouth watrers at the thought of it...

Gotta love this neighborhood bakery for their cookies and cakes. Daniel's has been around for at least 20 years and a key part of Brighton Center. Sounds like the place almost closed recently when the owner retired but some good soul saved the place!

Daniel's uses 'pure cream' and they aren't afraid to say so. I've tried a number of their baked goods: pumpernickel bread, black and white cookies, croissants and most recently cupcakes...because as I've proclaimed before, although I've yet to leave the metro Boston area, I'm on a cupcake tour around the world. It's my life. I digress. Daniel's cupcakes are yummylicious, reasonably sized and cheap. Darn cheap. At $.70 for your basic fresh chocolate/yellow cake with chocolate/white frosting and $1.20ish for a cuppy lemon confection, you won't be disappointed. The cake isn't too moist, dry or eggy, it's just right and the frostings don't taste of vegetable shortening. Note to bakers: It's BUTTERCREAM frosting not PARTIALLYHYDROGENATEDSOYBEANOILCREAM frosting. Sheesh. Hit Daniel's up and enjoy their reasonably priced baked goods along with their late 60's early 70's interior design.

I'm usually a fan of their ice cream cakes, but the last time I ordered the vanilla ice cream cake, the actual cake part of it was way too salty for a dessert. Maybe they had a bad day or something.

i do like that it's a throwback to the genuine neighborhood bakery without the starbucks/$5 a cupcake gloss. ive tried their cookies. meh. not that great. but i have tried their strawberry shortcake. u have to call in ahead for this. this is worth it! i LOVE their strawberry shortcake. it is so good. it sounds so simple.. but the way they make it is just right. not too sweet and not too mild. oh and their raisin cinnamon bread is yummy. it's one of my favorite things to toast on a saturday morning with a little bit of butter and green tea. hmmmmm
