About as good as BBQ gets in the Metro Boston area.

Great food quick good BBQ all around. The only complaint is 3 times out of about 10 times Ive been there the tables were dirty.

This place has really good smoked ribs. The brisket and pulled pork are great too, but the ribs are what get me coming back! I have been here 3 or 4 times and have consistently gotten excellent food. The sides are great too. I usually get the cole slaw or mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. The corn bread is good too. The only negative for me, is that there is no wait service. The place is cute and the decor is just what you would expect.

Stopped by to take Mom out to lunch. We got two pulled pork sandwiches, one sweet BBQ and on North Carolina tangy. Loved the NC style. I also got a side of smashed potatoes, the gravy wasn't heavy and the potatoes had nice flavor. The fountain soda is a random brand, but the ice tea was good. Good lunch for $17. We will be back.

We had Tennessee's cater the food for my daughter's first birthday party. I couldn't have been happier. They arrived on time and everything was super hot. We did the chicken & rib combo and it was about 3-4 ribs per person, plus probably between 1/4 - 1/2 chicken, 3 sides and corn bread. A lot of food! Everyone was really please with the chicken and ribs. We opted for cucumber salad as a side, to lighten things up a bit. We love it. It's vinegary and a little sweet. We also had the mac n' cheese, always a crowd pleaser, especially with the kids. They do a tasty one. Not too soupy and not processed looking and tasting. It has more of a home made taste and it's not orange! And, we had the baked beans. Their baked beans are not bad, but they're not my favorite. Beans a little too soft for my liking and I don't love all the big chunks of pork and vegetables. I know they're there for flavor, but I wouldn't mind a finer chop. They're decent though. The corn bread is excellent. Love their food and loved them as a catering option.

So I just heard about this place, and being from North Carolina I was excited to hear about it. So once I got here I walked in and thought I was the only one here. No one up front around the door, finally got to the counter was looking at the menu and stood there waiting to order while some girl behind the counter was texting on her phone. She finally looked up to see me a took my order. I gave her a tip and I a trying to figure why I did, because she has not come to my table at all, I had to pick my food up. when looking though thier BBQ sauce flavors I decide to try 2 being from NC I could not wait so I chose the NC style and the spicy, HAhaha they both tasted the same. when getting the sauce it squirts all over me. The handle is clod so that is not good. just not the experience I was thinking or hoping for. I will not be going back, I will do my own BBQ and I would suggest the same for anyone before going to this place. They do not do BBQ justice.

The manager (owner?) on duty was really helpful. He suggested a special for my wife that was a better value than what she was going to order and offered me a free sample of the collard greens. The wife had smoked sausage that was absolutely incredible, a simple Italian sweet sausage that was smoked and finished on the grill over a flame to give it that wonderful snap on top of the delicious smokey flavor. It was honestly one of the best things I've eaten in some time. I'm deducting one star as the place was a little dirty and they have the dreaded Real City Soda which I really dislike. However the BBQ is very tasty, done with a lot of love and care and the prices are very reasonable. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

The food here is delicious! Fun atmosphere, plenty of parking, fast service, and authentic BBQ on the south shore- whats not to love?! I highly recommend the mac n' cheese! YUM :D

It's been rather difficult for me to find impressive barbecue since I moved to New England, but this place really does the trick! The food is delicious and the service was quick. The collard greens and cornbread were a little bit of a letdown, but if it's not made by grandma, it's doomed to fall short, so don't let that stop you from giving it a shot. I'll definitely stop in again.

The atmosphere was fun. Food was good(I have had legit Carolina BBQ before and this had some issues). The quick service amazing! My food was up before I had finished paying! The manager came out and checked on us(which is a sign of good customer service). For a quick bite, this place is great.

Excellent food as I ordered to go. Pulled pork, corn bread, sweet potato, racks of ribs, chicken wings, and many other food. Very tasty!

I'm not sure what the draw to this establishment is. The barbeque is mediocre at best, and in my opinion overrated. I'm no barbeque expert, but I've tasted better and much more "authentic." The menu itself is rather diversified, but after trying two different types of sandwiches and a barbeque platter, it seems like the meat is either boiled or braised rather than grilled as it is often oversaturated as the bread is rendered useless because the meat is so wet (and not with sauce). The barbeque sauce is stored in giant metal containers that is probably pre-ordered rather than made in-house. Sorry, but the pulled chicken I buy from Trader Joe's tastes better than the pulled chicken offered at Tennessee's. No Pepsi or Coca-Cola offered, simply generic soda. The restaurant itself is like a maze. There is one entrance and one exit, but a series of handrails make it an adventure to try and leave. Furthermore, there are no napkins offered (you tear off sheets at will from a roll) and the tables are disgusting. Am I eating at a restaurant or in a trough? Oink. Where is the Health Department when you need them? Between a BBQ platter and a sandwich with two sides and two drinks, my fiance and I paid $27 for our meal to be served on trays with plastic plates and plastic utensils. Panera Bread is cheaper and is served on actual, real, plates and with real cutlery.

I love the food here! They have dynamite ribs (I like Texas-style with extra sweet bbq sauce) and the full Dixie Chicken is a great meal when I don't feel like cooking. They also catered my wedding, and I'd use them again if I decide to have another wedding. Or if we renew our vows.

Please read the second paragraph first, then come back to the top. 3/13/14 In my first review below, I gave this two stars and thought I was being generous at that. We had an opportunity through a deep discount coupon to give it another try. It must have been an off night when we were disappointed because this time they were back on track. The Memphis Ribs... excellent!! Baby Back ribs... very good. Brisket... OK. We didn't order any sides. 12/6/13 A while back I would stack their BBQ against any other I've ever had. Not any more! The quality of the product has taken a real dive. The rib racks are smaller and with much less flavor. The sides have also gone downhill.

Yummmmmy bbq. It's the best place we've found on the (sorta) South shore. My favorite are the memphis ribs. My daughter adores the beef ribs and dirty rice. The potato salad is awesome but for some weird reason they don't offer it year round. grrr The corn on the cob is always spot on. The cucumber salad is yummy. Love the sweet potato, jambalya . Boyfriend who has southern roots loves the collard greens, north carolina pulled pork sandwhich, sausage, corn on the cob, mac and cheese and most of their ribs. I'd say skip the mashed tatos (not creamy). Highly recommend.

Very eclectic but kind of pricy for the food quality. Between two of us and a tip, the bill was $40, but I feel like I got about $25 worth of value. The food, in it's essence is very good, but it would have been better warmed up - which kind of explains why after only sitting for about 5 seconds, our order of ribs and chicken was ready. We will come back, but not to sit in. It's right around the corner from our house, so like I said in my check-in tip, I'll get a six pack, order a bucket of ribs and enjoy them in front of my big screen! Update (a month or so after I drafted this review) We've been back a couple of time since, but instead of eating in, we carried out and I must say, it's been a pleasure. The portions we've received were great and every time, we've done it for under $20 for the two of us.

Tennessee's BBQ ROCKS!!!!!! The smoked pulled chicken is my favorite! I always get the cucumber salad as a side. It's always fresh and delicious!!! As is the mashed potatoes. The ribs are also delicious...But, I always have to get the chicken! It's just too good! It's also very reasonably priced. I love how you have tons of sauces to pick from and lots of paper towels to use...because you surely do need them!!!

My company placed a larger order with them today. The prices were just right to accomplish a corporate event on a budget. The compliments kept rolling in as people were eating. The food was TRULY enjoyed. The ribs were delicious, the cucumber salad was different, cool and refreshing! I was more impressed when I arrived and I realized there was a miscommunication about my order, I needed 4 family packs and only 3 were on my order. They quickly whipped it up and I was even able to add on another portion of ribs! I literally waited all of 3 minutes! I was very happy about that. Also the girl even helped me tote everything out to my car. The only feedback that I have is in regards to the family pack menu selection. They offer 4 1/2 sides with each meal deal that is to feed 4 people. If you chose sweet potato, corn on the cob or corn bread- you receive 1 piece for your 1/2 qt side. Which, in my opinion, is not enough to feed 4 people. Honestly, we were all very impressed just the same.

This place is terrible... its dirty, out dated and runned down. We got our order really fast, too fast. It took less than two minutes for a plate with 4 kinds of meat... the potatoes and mac and cheese tasted like they were microwaved. The ribs were old and reheated. The chicken dry. The pulled pork a pile of cold tastless reused meat... theres a chillis across the street go there instead...

I stopped in here for a quick dinner before shopping one night with my boyfriend. It seemed like a good alternative to e burger king that's right next door. After the whole experience, all I have to say about Tennessees BBQ is "meh". Their menu selection was just ok, and the same goes for their food. It was nothing special. Their homemade root beer was quite flat, but I bet it would be pretty good when it has more carbonation. The decor was pretty cool, and they did have a homemade beef available, which was a nice surprise. I will definitely not be making a special trip to come here again for dinner or lunch, but I may give it another chance if I'm already in the area and am looking for something to eat.

Southern quasi-fast food. Wings, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, dirty rice, southern beans, that sort of stuff. It's not the best place for the price, or the location, but neither is it the worst. Decent for a casual meal. Likes: - menu has some variety and food comes reasonably quickly - they serve beer and at reasonable cost - North Carolina pulled pork is pretty decent - beats eating at the Burger King next door Dislikes: - customer service is really sketchy - cashiers look very disinterested - need to do a better job of cleaning up the tables and chairs after customers - food quality is inconsistent - one day the Memphis ribs were great, the next they were not Verdict: OK for what it is - casual place to eat. Manage your expectations before dining and you won't be dissatisfied.

This is my usual go-to for barbeque. The wings, the ribs, the chicken, the brisket, even all the sides are perfect. The burritos are fully-stuffed and definitely something you can get when your in a rush. My favorite side dish would have to be the Tide Water Cole Slaw. I know what your thinking, Cole Slaw? Not what you may think. It's made with salad dressing instead of mayonnaise. That along with either cornbread or the cucumber salad are perfect. The sauces are all great. The only downside I can think of, is their TV isn't that big, but when the food is this good, all you need to do is get it to go and go watch a football game at a place with a big TV. This place is awesome for catering too. I will always go to this place for BBQ.

it's just ok. if you're really craving some BBQ in the winter and don't feel like cooking yourself it's worth seeing them. The manager who was out working the tables is really great though. He gave us side samples to help us decide... pass on the mac and cheese it's better from the box but he cucumer salad and baked beans are delish! BBQ ribs again was ok, chicken was just ok too. Wish I could give a better review I like the concept/and mgt just not the BBQ.

Total miss! I hadn't eaten here for a few years and remember it being decent. I got 2 brisket sandwiches to go with Mac and cheese with 1 and mashed potatoes and green beans on the other. My meat was SHINY- like it had been dipped in oil and tasted sour. I only took 2 bites and ended up throwing it away. What a waste of $20! I had to buy a ginger ale afterwards to help me not feel so ill! The only positives were the staff was very friendly and the BBQ sauce was tasty. I will have that image of shiny meat forever burned in my head! Stick to blue ribbon!!

Not too shabby for a BBQ place south of Boston. Its a takeout counter where you can order to-go or dine in, with a feel of backyard bbq style with the wooden benches, plastic plates, etc. Got the 2 meat combo that came with 3 sides. Pulled pork was overly sweet (and I tend to love sweet), but thought it really needed to be eaten with corn bread or the mac n cheese. Ribs were pretty good. Collard greens came with large chunks of meat, and a slight kick too. Overall, may come back when craving some BBQ closer to home...but not my fave BBQ in the greater Boston vicinity though.

A couple of foodies are we so we have seen the best of the worst and have tasted the worst of the best. T-BBQ falls short of the best and definitely has some worsts. First, the good stuff: +Cucumber Salad: cool, crisp, perfectly sweetened, good to clean palate. +Baked Beans: canned, doctored respectfully. +Mac & Cheese: not like mama used to make, but tasted like it was suppose to. +Collard Greens: perfect texture, could leave a bit of the pulled pork out of them though. Then, the lacking stuff: Both cashiers looked and acted so bored with their lives and lied to me when I asked whether or not the candied yams were from the can or peeled. She could stand to learn that "I dont know" is an acceptable answer. Is it me, and the wife, or does all of this meat taste like it was boiled before being slathered and baked in barbeque sauce? Between the two of us we had both ribs and chicken. Not coming back for neither because we didnt finish either. Yup, we tossed 50% of our meal into the trash can on the way out the door. I tried to salvage the meal by swapping out my yams (canned not candied) for mac&cheese. Not. Most of all, the worst stuff: This place is trailer park nasty! At the advisement of other YELP reviewers I did show up with my Lysol pop top dispensed wipes with the scour side and wipe side. I had to use two of them to wipe the table, booth seat and window ledge of a visible film of grit, grime and food goo before sitting down. Ah, people, the wipes were black when I finished and I had to put in a bit of elbow grease to scrub food residue of the top of the table! Ewwww. Where is restaurant ratings by the health department when you need one! Additionally, the window ledge, counter tops, decorations, floors, and trashbins are filthy! This place is nastier than a neighborhood fast food joint. Doesnt look like the fixtures have been wiped down since first installed. Authentic does not mean nasty. Nope, not going back. Not even for the cucumber salad.

First off we are from Texas so we are a little more judgmental and perfectionist about our bbq. We were happy that they had some great bbq sauce but there are some things that went wrong. FIrst - they ran out of bbq sauce - when I asked for more they looked at me like I was crazy. I don't like super sweet bbq sauce so when they ran out of the spicy i had to have plain meat which would have been fine BUT Second - the brisket was dry. Maybe I didn't get the best cut of meat but it was dry, tough and tasteless. Third - the macaroni and cheese was good but kind of reminds me of the mac and cheese you get at the school cafeteria. Baked beans - SwEET so SWEET Cole Slaw - very good Pulled Pork - was very good but i will say that it was overly sauced and on the super sweet side BBQ Chicken - best thing we ordered RIBS - had a few good and a few bad so it gets a 3 So here's my beef - if you want to say you are a southern bbq restaurant you need to have ONIONS, PICKLES, BREAD, Baked potato, SAUCE (not a jar that says sauce and is empty, moist meat. I will eat here again but I still miss my Saltlick and Riskeyes and Smokey Joes of Texas. Sigh.

Gotta say good things about Tennesee's BBQ in Braintree. First, let me explain that as I am from Texas, good BBQ in Massachusetts is hard to come by - trust me. (Yes, I've been to Red Bones, but candidly believe Tennesee's is better.) Also, because I am from Texas, which I believe serves the best BBQ, I won't rate Tennessee's as 5-stars, but will say that it's the best I've had in the Northeast. Granted, the atmosphere is kinda like you're eating in a Burger King or McDonalds - basically a "fast food" type of atmosphere but the food is, in a word, exceptional. Great wings, chicken, pulled pork, all sorts of types of ribs, selection of side items (cornbread, beans, coleslaw, etc.) is as good as it is diverse! And they serve ice cold beer, too!! Candidly, what I truly do like about the BBQ here is that it is flavorful, without being so overpowering or laden with spices that it would lead to hearburn afterwards. Be advised, however, that there is no table service: you just place your order at the front (like you would at a Burger King, etc.), and the staff will call you when your number is ready. Food is served promptly, and at the proper temperature. I've never had, nor heard of, any complaints about Tennessee's in Braintree. Good times.

Being from Texas and having lived in NJ for a few years, I am excited to have a BBQ joint nearby. The Carolina BBQ was very good. I liked the BBQ beans bc they were spicy rather than sweet. Cornbread and sauces were not the best, just average. I like the atmosphere. Order a platter or by the LB and fill you belly! In the south this place would be at best a 3 star review but giving it 4 bc of the lack of BBQ places in the northeast.

My reason for coming here? It's the only decent BBQ near Weymouth. And the food is "aight." Nothing to go crazy over, but they get the job done for me. The Best I have had here in MA?? They are not, that would be Texas BBQ Company in Northborough. But to calm my craving, Tennesse fits the bill.

This place is great, everything that I have had here is excellent. Great place to stop for lunch or dinner, but even better place to have Cater your work outing. My friend has them cater his yearly work party and they do an amazing job.

Went to Tenn BBQ one weekend night. They have these great combo platters in the menu which we tried. We got the Smoked Pulled Chicken 11.99 with Baked Macaroni & Cheese, Cucumber Salad and Corn on the Cob. Also got Oink Cackle & Moo 16.79 with sides of Collard Greens, Killer Corn Bread and Smashed Potatoes. And the third platter was Blue's Rib Combo 15.99 with sides of Corn on the Cobb and Southern Style Green Beans. They were out of Cole Slaw so had to get corn on the cobb instead. The chicken and ribs were good. The oink cackle not so much. It was extremely dry. All the sides were yummy. The take out counter was friendly and my daughter enjoyed the little piggies. Overall good BBQ if you have the time and choice to pick another location go elsewhere but if you live close the Braintree area and are "stuck" going somewhere close by then this a decent BBQ joint.

Gotta say I'm impressed. I've travelled cross country for over decade in search of the perfect BBQ venue, and while this isn't perfect, it sure is Purty Dayem Good. We grabbed everything off the menu, expecting to find a crap dish, but u know, even their Dixie chicken was phenom. Loved it. Sides were also great.... ok, maybe the bbq beans were a tad mediocre, but I did enjoy everything else. I was expecting something very Podunk in New England, but definately going to see a lot of return business from me.

Awesome to have found this place in our area. The best BBQ in Boston... wait, is there another BBQ in the Boston area? Their wall is filled with award plaques in the last few years. Friendly staff. Great selection but not all the items were super delish. The sides are great: cornbread and coleslaw is good. The pulled pork is fantastic but the Carolina style (tangy flavor), I guess must be an acquired taste. I'm not quite there yet. Ribs were flavorful. Not fall-off the bone great but good enough for me to come back - again and again!

I stopped here for lunch, while working in the area. It is one of the only interesting looking places, Braintree is really a very drab place... I went in, ordered from a nice woman who explained the sides, asked about drinks, ecc, and at the end of the transaction thanked me for tipping - not enough people tip these days? I've heard more "thank yous" for tipping recently than ever before... I got a side of mac and cheese that was thicker than I couldve imagined. Tasty, for sure, but amazingly thick- they must use some super cheese, or lots of flour, or who knows what to make it stick together like that... The sandwich was good. I would hazard to say I've only had better pulled pork in Dallas... Recently, anyways. Good portion size too. Not outrageous, but I'm neither too full, or still hungry.

I guess I was expecting more, after reading very good reviews of this place. I had the beef brisket, chicken, and ribs. The ribs were quite good. The rest was just ok. Side dishes (baked beans and cole slaw) not very good. I would try again, but there is another BBQ place in Quincy that I thought was much better!.

I grew up in North Florida so I'm pretty particular about my BBQ. I've been living in the Boston area, particularly the South Shore for 7 years now and this place is about the best it gets up here. It can be a little bit inconsistent in quality at times (especially the ribs) but the Pulled Pork is always solid and the sides are very good. Try the cucumber salad. The prices are a bit high but nothing outrageous and most every meal comes with a few sides. Would recommend any BBQ lover in the area to at least give this place a shot.

My husband and I went last night, which was Valentine's day. This was our first time and we have not been to a lot of bbq restaurant's. When we walked through the doors, they had a lovers lane meal for valentines day advertised, but when we went to order the special (lovers lane) meal was no longer available. So we ordered the sampler which was $15.99, and had 3 bbq meats for the plate. I feel that the sampler should not be more than $10.00 at the most! They also told us that there wasn't any corn bread left, so we could get a different side instead of their killer corn bread, I found that shocking since its a bbq restaurant, I've never had bbq food and no corn bread? So when we got our plate we had to get our own plastic forks and knives, hard paper towels that was on rolls (which most rolls were empty), and bbq sauce. The hot & spicy and sweet sauces were the only sauces that was filled, the main mild sauce was empty and/or the pump was broken. When I told the cashier about the mild sauce empty, she looked aggravated that I said anything, then I told her that I just wanted to let her know, but I could live without it, she was fine with not running over to fix it! Then the Dixie chicken breast was red on the meat and a little bloodly, the skin on the breast and drum stick was fatty slippery and gross. I went to show them the breast when I was leaving, even though I didn't want another one in its place. When I showed the girl cashier and cook, I was told that the breast is cooked that's just how it comes out? She did offer to grill it if I wanted, I said no that's ok, I threw it away. I'm use too bbq food being a little crispy on the skin atleast the chicken, but not there? Oh and the drinks, they have different flavors grape, Orange and etc pop, on the tap and bottles plus they sell water in the bottle. But they don't have soda that I know personally? I only reconized the water (Poland springs). We won't return back to this restaurant, or recommend it. I feel that its over priced and really isn't worth going too!

lord i've really been real stressed down and out, losin ground although i like bar-b-que restaurants got me pessimistic brothers and sisters keep messin up why does it have to be so damn tuff? i don't know where i can go to stuff my face with good beef brisket for some strange reason it had to be he guided me to tennessee's. ************************************ the first time i walked in to tennessee's, the air was thick with smoke. it permiates the walls. it took 3 days for the smell to wash out of my skin. i never wanted it to go. i don't pretend to be an expert in any sort of cuisine or be the arbiter of "authenticity" (whatever that is), but this is the bomb for bbq in the boston area. in fairness, i haven't tried blue ribbon yet, but tennessee's blows everything else i've had out of the water. to me, the hardest thing to do well is chicken. even at bbq places, it dries out very quickly. not at tennessee's. the chicken is moist, smokey and delicious. the memphis ribs were also excellent (chicken & ribs combo - $14), but i was so distracted by the chicken, i almost missed the meatyness of the ribs and the sweet, spicy crust formed by the memphis rub. almost. sauce was not necessary for either. if pork ribs aren't your thing, tennessee's also offers beef ribs. the 4 bones + 3 sides combo ($12) is an excellent deal and the beef ribs are ... well, beef ribs. large and fatty. like i would be if i lived too near this place. i'd be scarfing down beef burritos (chopped bbq beef, dirty rice, guac, sour cream and salsa - $7) and grape sodas every day. EVERY DAY. the sides are also top-notch and there are enough non-meat items for vegetarians to survive a visit here. the mac-n-cheese is simple, but excellent. very smooth and creamy but very definitely not a gastro-pubby-18-cheeses mac-n-cheese. the dirty rice comes in second, full of flavor with nice kick at the end. the candied yams (are those marshmellows? yup!) are also recommended. the cornbread is sweet and cakey. some people will not like that. i am not one of those people. the cucumber salad is good, but i wish it was a little more vinegary. if sodas aren't your thing to wash it all down with, tennessee's has their own beer - a pretty good ale - and bottles of other adult bevvies (heineken, mike's hard lemonade, that sort of thing). much like the food, tennessee's is a pretty no-frills place, and it shows in their prices. no table service, no plates, and no problem for me. place your order at the counter, grab your ticket, unfurl yourself a few yards of paper towels, load up at the jugs of "sweet," "hot," or "tangy" sauce and get busy.

We love Tennessee's BBQ! We got introduced to Tennessee's while living in Framingham and were thrilled to find they had a restaurant in Braintree when we moved to the South Shore. My husband loved the pulled chicken sandwich with two sides of cucumber salad - yes it is that good. I love the pulled pork sandwich with a sweet potato and cucumber salad. Their cornbread is to die for - which is why I don't order it! All in all we have never had anything bad here and wish we lived closer!

If you have ever been to Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City, you know that all BBQ in the world is measured against his. This is no Arthur Bryant's but it is a cute little place with decent food. The ribs had a great smokey flavor and the pulled pork sandwich had nice crispy pieces. The sides were yummy but the cole slaw had a modern twist...not the sloppy white mess I am used to. Prices are reasonable and the side sauces are yummy.

I just started going here recently even though I've drove passed it a million times. I always get the pulled chix salad, and the BBQ ranch dressing is a god send. My friend let me eat some of her pulled pork burrito and it tasted so good that I punched her in the face. They have beer on tap and many different types of sauces to choose from.

It's not the South but it is the South Shore. The best BBQ you can get is still well below the Mason Dixon line but this place certainly does it part to help move quality Cue up north. I had the ribs and wings combo for about $12.99. This combo comes standard with 3 sides, I choose the potato salad, cole slaw and the green beans (I did say collard greens but I think the cashier just heard green and figured it was green beans). The ribs were the star of the platter. They were the Memphis style ribs and they were cooked to perfection. The meat was tender and when you bit into the rib it came away with easy but didn't pull off the rest of the meat. That is a sign of a top quality rib. They were served dry and the sauces are not my personal taste. I found them to all be overloaded with a black pepper taste and really lost any flavor or nuance in the smoke. The wings are apple wood smoked and can come hot or bbq. I got them hot and they were tasty. I think a side of a ranch or even blue cheese would be nice with them but all you get is more hot sauce or bbq sauce. The slaw was the standout on the sides. I thought the potato salad was overdressed and the potatoes overcooked. The southern green beans were forgettable. So why with only two standouts on the platter would I give it 4 stars? The location in the Mass is one reason and to find smokey goodnees in the meats is the other. The Cue was very good and I'm certainly happy that I live only minutes away when I desperately need a smoke break for a meal.

Carolina pulled pork sandwich is the best! The pork is cooked perfectly, super juicy, and the vinegar sauce is spicy and tangy just the way I like it. The sides are awesome too! I always get the Mac & cheese which is a bowl full of creamy cheesy goodness; the only thing that makes it better is the "hot" BBQ sauce.

Pretty good BBQ joint. Definitely a cut above other fast casual eateries in the area. Got the Caribbean Chicken, smashed potatoes (just call them mashed), corn on the cob, and cucumber salad. Everything was good, and made better by the self-serve mild, sweet, and spicy BBQ sauce. I'll eat here as long as I'm around.

The last time we came here some hobos probably Braintree's finest, were all methed out and literally scratching and tweaking all over the restaurant. They were yelling and swearing and not making sense. This went on for the duration of our 20 minute lunch. My fiance (bf @ the time) does a great job tuning things like this out. I, on the other hand was so freaked out and couldn't even eat. And, if I don't eat my BBQ in a restaurant that sells BBQ, something is wrong. The food was okay, nothing special. We did get a giftcard from the manager, but I for one know I will not be returning.

Good ribs on Boston's South Shore. Who knew? First rate ribs. I had the 6 bone Memphis ribs. A really good deal too because it comes with 3 sides. The ribs had a great texture (not mushy) and the apple wood imparted a great taste. I had dirty rice, potato salad and BBQ beans. The dirty rice was very good. The rice had a good taste and wasn't too dry. The beans were ok, but not the best bbq beans I've ever had. The potato salad was great. A word of warning. They put onion in the potato salad. I like it that way, but some don't. The staff was very friendly and the service was fast. The dining area was clean but not huge. I hope to return soon.

Awesome Chili. Great pulled pork. Great ribs. The other day they had a chili dog on the specials board so i ordered it up. It came with corn bread. The dog was huuuuge and all beef. The chili has 2"x2" cubes of beef in it which are so tender you can cut them with a fork. The chili isnt that spicy but it's got enough spice to let you know it's chili. All the sides are great, especially the cucumber salad.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside, and it shares a parking lot with burger king, but the ribs they're cooking up here are great. I tried the rib combo, so I was able to taste all three of their style ribs. My favorite were the Texas ribs, which are gigantic beef ribs in a great sauce. The other two pork ribs were also delicious and had a good amount of meat on the bone. Order it up with their killer cornbread and it's a great meal.

Disclaimer: I am a vegetarian. Nonetheless, I am always happy to accompany by boyfriend to Tennessee's. While I do not eat meat, the BBQ smell in there is amazing. My boyfriend says it also tastes great. I usually get the grilled veggie burrito, but I can't give a terribly accurate review of it since it is different every time I go. Sometimes it has rice, sometimes not. Sometimes it has sour cream, sometimes not. And so on. But, it is usually tasty and I guess I can't blame them for not remembering how to make a dish that's probably only ever ordered when some crazy vegetarian wanders in. The corn bread and mac and cheese sides are also great. I did get a whole plate of mac and cheese once and that was really a bit much. We like this place because it smells great, and the food is good and comes out very very fast.

This place has some really good BBQ. Their meats are great. My favorites are: Memphis Ribs, Babyback Ribs, Beef Brisket, Pulled Pork, and Apple Smoked Wings. I have no order of preference with the wings. Their sides are out of this world! They make the best mashed potatoes with gravy and the best cornbread. Their dirty rice and baked macaroni with cheese are also excellent. The only things I do not like about here is that the service can be shaky at times and the prices are somewhat high for the type of food.

This is my main barbecue fix up here after moving from Texas. I get the brisket plates or sandwiches. I've always been a brisket buff and this stuff is good. It's not too fatty or too lean and they have good sauces. They have good sweet potatoes, green beans, beans and some other sides. However, I wish they had corn on the cob or even just corn. Also, they have draft rootbeer. You can't beat that! I also like the atmosphere. They did a good job creating the southern atmosphere in a small shopping center area. It's cozy, dim, and has alright blues music playing. I really recommend this place if you lived in the south and miss good barbecue... especially the beef. Oh yeah, you get things super quick too. I love that. (I've had a pet peeve about barbecue places that take forever. I mean.. the food is cooked already, they just have to slap it on a plate!)

Great little BBQ joint. I go there once a week. It's clean, an the people are Nice. But most important the BBQ is solid. Pulled pork is great, and look for their specials. All around great place.

I've only had the burrito here several times but compared to Chipolte and the like their burritos are much better. One time the onions were all in one area so it semi ruined the burrito but its still way better than the assembly line style of the chains. The place has great decor and is usually fast and not crowded. Very underrated IMO. And they serve beer, ya it's good.

  • Beth M.

Great ribs on the south shore! The memphis ribs with cucumber salad, collard greens and potato salad (which is to DIE FOR!) is my absolute favorite. The inside is clean and we love the bluesy music atmosphere. The food is fantastic and you order at the counter and pick it up yourself to bring back to your table. It's super fast even when it's busy. My boyfriend has southern roots and is picky about his ribs and southern homestyle cooking and loves the place as much as me.

Great spot for grabbing a quick lunch that tastes great. The food is a bit on the expensive side and is why I marked them down a touch, but it is very consistent. I love the root beer from the tap, choices of hot sauces and relaxed environment.

Came here based on Yelp advice and was not let down. Excellent bbq given where it is (a strip mall in Braintree isn't Memphis.) I got the sampler plate and everything was excellent. The meat fell off the bone on the ribs, pulled pork was very tasty (tangy) and the smashed potatoes were super. Ambience was great too. Great authentic blues blasting through the speakers (maybe a bit too loud) and the kitsch was well done and not goofy. Prices seemed okay for good tasting BBQ on a Sunday afternoon. I live about 15 miles away but I will definitely be back.

One night before the movies my husband and I decided hey lets stop by the Tennessee BBQ because we always see it. What a big mistake. The food was greasy anda not much taste at all. I like to try different things, but I know that the thing I didn't like about it, was it was basically like fast food. That I didn't like at all. So I will not eat here again/

You can't find great BBQ in New England and Tennessee's is no different. By no means is it bad and it will do in a pinch but you can get better at one of the chain restaurants in the area for about the same price.

Yikes! We tried the Memphis ribs, brisket, NC pork, & sweet pulled pork. No smoke flavor in anything (you couldn't see a smoke ring on anything). Ribs were OK, but nothing better than the Dave's that used to be down the street. The brisket was tender, but had zero flavor (like it could have been boiled). The pulled pork was essentially just the flavor of each sauce. The sides were just as bad/bland, except for the coleslaw & pickles. To top it off, some items had a peculiar flavor. Not of spice, herb, or smoke. More of a chemical taste. After a good BBQ meal, you should feel guilty, satisfied, fuller than full, but wanting more. Tennesse's gives you none of that. We actually pitched most of our meal out. Where has all the good BBQ gone? We also watched America's Test Kitchen And tried smoking ribs ourselves. It's time consuming, but easy....and much better than any BBQ I've had locally in years. Good luck on your quest.

I reallllly wanted a pulled pork sandwich and my favorite spot was Tenn BBQ Well was I disappointed for the 2nd time. I ordered my usual sandwich with mashed and gravy 7.50 . I added on a side of wings at 3.99. So off I went to visit my mother. She lives down the street not even 2 minutes away maybe 3 if I miss the light. So I go in greet mom and open the bag and open the wings to share with her. OK now I have 4 wingettes (similar to KFCs wingetts but smaller). I was told it was 4 wings not wingette. Mom ended up eating all of them and 1/2 my sandwich. Ok now for my sandwich as mom was eating the wing I handed her I took my fork and tried to have a bite of the mashed potatoes. LOL they were so hard and cold I was not able to get the plastic fork in them. I picked up the gravy (in cup on side) and it was so cold it felt like it was out of the fridge. It was so cold in fact when I dropped it on top of the potatoes to reheat in micro it kept the shape of the cup it had been in. The pulled pork was in a plastic container (like when U get the smallest amount of something at your local deli) this was cold and when I mixed it up a little I had congeled fat on the sides. YUK YUK Now I look at my watch and exactly 6 minutes have passed since I was handed the food and left the store. There is no way this food should be this cold. I discussed with my mom and sure enough she remembered this is exactly what happened when I took her there in June. We ate there and I had to ask for the potatoes, gravy and meat to be heated up. They were cold and so was my moms ribs but as she prefered them cold because it was so hot out she didn't tell me at the time. My son (12) told me he wanted to stay home because the Mac and cheese is gloppy and gross and cold also. What kid wont eat mac and cheese. LOL If you want BBQ ribs go somewhere else. I will not be back and thats sad as this was my favorite BBQ place. YUK YUK YUK YUK

OK, I travel for work and have eaten BBQ everywhere from Texas to Kansas City. Where I grew up (west coast) BBQ is beef ribs, tri-tip and chicken, (pork too, but less than beef) I gave 3 stars because of the Beef ribs. The ribs were not very meaty and the sauce was so-so. The redeeming point were the sides. The sweet potato's, mac and cheese, and corn bread were great. I also ordered chicken which was much better than the rib. If I go again I will only order chicken.

I'm not familiar with real Southern BBQ, so I can't compare, but I love meat and I love BBQ. I think Tennessee's is excellent! The side orders can be hit or miss at times, but the BBQ never disappoints. My favorite is the pulled pork BBQ sandwich. Get that with one side and you have dinner for under $10.00! The sweet potatoes are usually pretty good too. Surprisingly, the chicken burrito was excellent! Overall, this place does one thing right and that is BBQ. All of their sauces are great.

This is my favorite restaurant in Braintree. It's also my favorite barbecue restaurants in New England. We've had lunch here on several occasions and the food is consistently outstanding. The people behind the counter can be a little intimadating, this is New England and they advertise "Real BBQ - Real Fast." So, hurry up and order. I highly recommend the "North Carolina Pork (Tangy) Sandwich. You can add a side or two. I've tried them all, they are all outstanding. Well, my favorite is mac and cheese. for under $10, you'll get a excellent meal with a generic soda drink. This I haven't seen before, a self-serve soda fountain with generic sodas. It's pretty close to Rt3, so avoid I-93 to Rt37 route.

I forgot all about this spot but I was in Braintree and was hungry and decided to give it a shot. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of bbq baked beans and a cucumber slaw. The pulled pork was really good and I really liked the beans. The slaw was nothing speacial but not terrible. I will definitely come back to this place but $10.50 was a little on the steep side for lunch. I wanted to try the ribs next.

My husband and I were watching America's Test Kitchen make barbecue ribs and rather than make it ourselves, we yelped barbecue and went right away! I ordered the the Memphis ribs and my husband ordered some other ribs. We both really enjoyed them - soft and tasty with decent sides. Tasty.

If you like barbecue this is a great place to go. I am a big fan of the south Carolina pulled pork. This is a no frills joint with great ribs, chicken and pulled pork. I have not tried the brisket, but I am sure it is good as well. Everything is served on disposable plastic or paper plates, plastic utensils and rolls of brown paper towels. This is not a place to go for the ambiance, just the food. I have been here quite a few times, and will continue to come back to fill the need

  • Ashley B.

For the area, this is pretty good grub. They have all the expected meats and proper side dishes for a BBQ joint. My favorites are the brisket, cornbread, and potato salad, but I've sampled a pretty large portion of the menu, and its all pretty tasty. I just wish they would put peach cobbler on the menu... hint... hint... :) If your from the south, it won't be quite as good as home, but its a pretty good substitute to hold you over until you make back down, but in the land of bland, Tennessee's does a pretty good job!

Really solid bbq overall. A large menu covers all the basics - chicken, pork pulled and ribs, beef ribs, brisket, wings. Sides range from dirty rice to baked macaroni and cheese, collard greens to vinegar based cole slaw. Walk in, read the hall board menu, place your order and pay. Sauces are in giant pump tubs and range from sweet to spicy (the spicy is really not that hot). Napkins are on rolls under the counter - grab some as there are no napkins on the tables. The Memphis rib platter ($16.99) is served sauced and has six meaty ribs and three sides. Trimmed nicely, the meat is pulled back slightly on the bone. The meat holds to the bone well allowing for individual bites to be had. A crisp skin (bark) is fresh and has a nice "snap." Tender and juicy with a light smokiness, these ribs are nearly perfect, if light on the rub. Mac 'n cheese, is cheesy whilst not being goopy. Almost light but full flavor. Very crisp cabbage and heavy pepper flecks highlight the vinegar based cole slaw. The corn bread is soft, sweet, salty and not crumbly.

North Carolina style pulled pork. To. Die. For. Got the baked mac & cheese, and the corn bread. The Mac could've been a little more flavorful, but it was still good. The corn bread is awesome, 2 big pieces of moist, corny corn bread lol. I can't wait to go back and try the ribs and chicken.

I have been coming here for years and always loved the food. My favorite is the brisket - so good. I am only giving it 3 stars because, after going there last night, I see how much the price has been jacked up. I would get the "Oink, cackle and moo" and my daughter and I would share it with some left over. This was a good deal at $18. When I went last night I saw it was now $22. The girl at the register said she was shocked too as all their prices, except sandwiches, went up last week and the OCM was the biggest change. I ended up getting a chopped beef sandwich which was great as always, but I fear I will not be going with my old favorite anytime soon. Their food is good, but they are getting too pricey for a mainly take out joint. They seems to have lost their way. I did notice a brand new security camera pointed at the counter where the food is plated. Maybe some issues with internal theft that are being trickled down to us?

Got takeout from here yesterday. I got the BBQ sampler for 1. Memphis ribs, dixie chicken, pulled pork, cornbread and 2 sides. The pulled pork was delicious. The chicken was just ok. Came with a leg and thigh. Not my favorite parts of a chicken but the smokey flavor was tasty. The ribs were pretty good too. Maybe a little fatty. I would of like a little more meat on them. The 2 sides i got were mashed potatoes that came with gravy on the side. Gravy was yummy!! And my second side was mac-n-cheese. It was just ok. Cornbread was good. Not dry. Cost 16.99 but it was a huge portion. The place was pretty cool inside. Decorated really nice. There were a few booths to eat in there too. Also, they have Pecan pie sold by the slice. Can't wait to try it! If your looking for health food this isn't it but i'll definitely be going back here once in a while as a treat. 3.5 stars

Food tastes exactly how it would if you were at a BBQ joint down south, right down to the huge rolls of brown paper towels. I've tried the pulled chicken and pork and the slow cooked ribs. Sides are excellent too. You can't go wrong with a hunk of crumbly cornbread thats not too dry nor moist or some homemade baked mac n cheese. My only quip is that they don't serve real Coca Cola products (nothin like a coke with your collared greens and ribs) and the iced tea is not sweet. If you live nearby, its worth adding to your rotation. If you're coming from far away, it's definitely worth the trip.

i tend not to love fast casual restaurants, but this one is excellent. this was my first visit, and i was super excited. i'm a freak for ribs, and there are not many places near me for bbq. this place totally hit the spot, and i will absolutely be back. my boyfriend went with the north carolina pulled pork platter which came with 3 sides; he chose bbq beans, cucumber salad, and dirty rice. the pork was wonderfully flavorful with a nice tang from the vinegar. the beans were good (beans aren't my favorite thing ever, but he was very happy). the cucumber salad was somewhere between cucumbers and pickles, and was absolutely divine. it seems to me that there was a special side that night of jambalaya, and i'm pretty sure that's what he got. otherwise he got the dirty rice. either way, i did not sample it but, again, he was very happy. i stalked the menu for a few days before we went, and totally had my eye on the rib combo: 2 memphis, 2 baby back, and 2 texas beef ribs with 3 sides, for exactly $17.99. in my experience, that price is unheard of for that amount of food. well- i couldn't have been happier. the beef ribs were appropriately massive, and both the memphis and baby back were excellently tender. for my 3 sides i got mac and cheese, collards, and cole slaw. the mac and cheese was very good; not necessarily as creamy as i prefer it, but i respect the style in which it was made, and appreciated it. the collards were amazing, and the cole slaw was more a vinegar style than mayo, though equally as delicious. there are 3 different homemade sauces available to go along. though i took samples of each (and they were each different and good), i didn't need to use them. my meat was sauced a bit while it cooked, and it was plenty for me. all in all, i'd say this place ranks high on value AND flavor. also, service was friendly and efficient, even on a busy friday night when the phone was ringing off the hook with takeout orders. i will definitely return.

I'm glad this place is here and it gets the job done. Portion sizes are big, both the collards and Mac were yummy, cornbread was moist and flavorful. Also the house ale was solid, tap was clean, also generous on that size 20 oz I think. But I don't give it a four or five, just because they slather too much sauce on the ribs and pulled pork. Too sticky and sweet. Also I like my pork ribs a little more fall off the bone. And I agree with one other review, sides are lukewarm, I like mine hot. I'll definitely be back, but it's not a destination like redbones or sweet cheeks....or even blue ribbon. Way way more convenient though and def for south shore. So as I said, I'm glad it's here and fills a definite need. Really a 3.5, not a 4, but I'll round up given the location.

I've been remiss in reviewing this place. My husband and I have stopped in every few months for the last 2-3 years. Have always gotten good food, the place is usually pretty clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. What finally prompted my review was that yesterday I was planning to make pulled chicken in my slow cooker. Got my sauce ready, had all the fixings for a casual dinner with friends, and--surprise--a package of spoiled chicken. I was stuck at home with no way to bring it back to the grocery store. Called Tennesee's. I hated having to call because I know they're usually busy, but I had a few questions. The young woman I spoke to was friendly and helpful, and my husband swung by after work and got some bulk barbecue that was a hit with my guests. Thank you for all the great meals and for saving the day yesterday!

I have been coming here for years. Not a lot, but every time I do come the food is always good. Never a bad experience, which is rare, because even the best restaurants have a flaw or two. I am sure they make mistakes, but I haven't experienced one yet. Lucky me huh? lol

Visited Tennessee's for the first time today for lunch. I ordered the 4bbq ribs, baked mac and cheese, collard greens and corn bread. The corn bread was great. It was moist and tasty. I had mixed feelings about the ribs. They had a little bit of a burnt flavor which made them a little difficult to eat for me. The mac and cheese could have been a little more creamy. The collard greens were cooked perfect. One downfall was that I could not find any wet napkins for my ribs I had to use some of the brown paper towel from the rolls.Pretty good bbq overall. I would definitely visit again for a quick bite.

The pulled pork sandwich isn't good. It's hard to screw up a pulled pork sandwich. The corn bread was too cake-like. The baked sweet potato was terrible. I kind of like the vibe of this place, but the food just isn't up to par. I won't be back.

The food is pretty good. . I've never gotten anything I doesn't like. . The ribs are really good as is the pulled pork sandwich... Plus you have a few types of BBQ sauces to pick from. .

I only tried the beef ribs and they were decent. Nothing that fantastic but great for a convenient quick way to get some ribs. The ribs were a 3.5 out of 5. The sweet sauce was the sauce I preferred . I bumped it up to 4 starts because I prefer not having a waiter and you are free to get as much BBQ sauce as you want without having to have someone refill you several times, well short of them bringing a bucket of sauce to your table.

Always delicious!! I've been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience. The BBQ is some if the best I've had. There are many different combos and options. The pulled pork and brisket are always delicious. The Mac and cheese and cucumber salad are outstanding. Prices aren't bad for the amount of food that you get. Highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for good BBQ.

This is a great place that I think a lot of people pass by thinking it is fast food. Sure, its no frills and you order at the counter, find a seat and they call out your number but the food is delicious and the portions are plentiful! Most of the time I get the pulled pork, It is so tender and flavorful, and the sauces they have are amazing. They have great sides. Mac and Cheese, mashed potatoes, cucumber salad, which is really think sweet pickles with onions, among other sides I cant remember. Check it out!

First time there, just picking up some takeout wings for my wife. I mentioned it was my first time and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I remarked that I thought it was cool they have root beer and beer beer on tap. They gave me a cup of root beer on the house to try out and it was delicious! They also have a beverage cooler filled with old timey bottled flavored soda. No high fructose corn syrup, real sugar instead! Can't wait to go back and try some other things on the menu. Would be five stars but I'm pretty sure they shorted me on the wings order.

BBQ Sampler...A lot of food and I'm a big eater. Side of Mac and a nap.

Have been there many times. Food is consistently good, I usually order the pulled pork or ribs and are both are excellent. It can be pricy for take out food, but you get a good amount of food for the price.

Loved it! Great smoked BBQ all around (ribs, pulled pork, chicken) and the sides were all really good too for a change. I feel like many BBQ places don't put much effort into the extras but not this joint. Prices were also very reasonable. Good portions - enough for leftovers. I will be back!!

They offer good food at reasonable price and the service is also ok. If you are in the area and looking to try some bbq I would recommend you give them a try. Its not the best in the world but I'm sure you will enjoy it.

This place can be atrocious or it can be good. I'm not sure what times/days are the best to go and not go but I can tell you, on the good days, the food is to die for. On the bad days, you are left pissed off wanting to drive back the 6 miles to return your order. I wish the place would be more consistent. Mac & Cheese is great 9 times out of 10. Cornbread is always great. Chicken - meh. I got it once and never again. Ribs - Can be good if you get the cooked dry ends because the other pieces have too much fat on them. I'm talking the baby back ribs which should have less fat than the others. Sometimes there is so much fat, you practically throw away a whole rib (unless you like chewing on fat). Extra sauce is not needed on their ribs as they are fine how they are. I just wish the cooking was consistent and thorough.

I just experienced Tennessee BBQ for the first time. It was great & I would go back there again. I was excited to visit the restaurant from the minute I laid my eyes on the menu. When I arrived there with my friends we quickly found parking & went inside. The atmosphere was nice, it's got an authentic Tennessee feel inside. There were lots of bold colors & creative artwork on the walls, not to mention all the words written on the ceiling with bottle caps. I got the pulled BBQ chicken burrito with smashed potatoes & beans plus the beef brisket chili. Overall it was an A+ I would DEFIANTLY return for another burrito in the near future. Oh! I can't forget about the Mercury Soda. I tried the Blue Raspberry one, and it was epic. I hope to try the Lemon Lime, Black Cherry & Watermelon soon too.

Usually cook my own bbq but wanted to try what's out there. This place isn't bad just average. Ribs were good, bbq wings fine but the mac & cheese and collards were very bland. Just another bbq franchise that's all.

A friend of mine from the south said this place is extremely authentic. I love the food, they're very fast. My kids love it too.

Family loves this place. Raised in Kentucky and moved to Massachusetts. Hard to find real southern food up here, but this place make me feel at home

It's hard to find quality BBQ on the south shore. Beware the menu can get a bit pricey but there's tons of food on each plate. My favorite... Whatever is on the special board. My wife loves the cornbread corners and all she has to do is ask and they always hook her up! I look forward to any chance to swing by Braintree and pleasure my taste buds.

Very dirty and over-priced. I ordered the beef ribs/ brisket combo. With 3 bone ribs, one of the bones had no meat on it whatsoever. The brisket was dry, grey and even a bit chewy with no smoke ring. This is not good barbecue. The worst part that really set me off is the bathroom. I gagged when I entered. Toilet was disgusting in every way possible, the sink was very dirty and the napkin dispenser didn't work so I had to touch everything! The employees use this bathroom then handle food! Ewwwww! I emailed management to let them know how horrible my experience was, no response.

Tennessee's consistency cannot be understated. Any time of the day the service is friendly, the food comes out quick and the quality is top notch. Always moist and flavorful. The only question is how can the Subway and Burger King that Tennessee's is stuffed between still be in business?

Excellent chili--as homemade as anyone can come up with. Huge portions. Good but quite greasy collards. Dynamite chicken; NC barbecue is good, but nowhere near what you get in NC
