Food was good and service was great! Loved the open windows to the street! Worth it to get a reservation for the tables right at the windows! Warning...Gino's Juice is good but on the menu it says N/A. We assumed it meant non-alcoholic but it means that a description is not applicable.

Great dinner, great service, our waitress Rachel was the best. Next time in Boston we'll be back.

The apps were okay, the mozzarella in the caprese salad was a bit grainy. The baby spinach and shrimp salad came with only four shrimp, which was pretty stingy considering the amount of spinach on the plate. I got the shrimp scampi, which was bland and again came with very few shrimp. Ultimately that wasn't a problem though because the few shrimp on the plate were so dry, chewy, and overlooked that I couldn't finish them. $20 for a bland shrimp scampi with very few shrimp made me feel like I was being robbed. My favorite part of the meal was the bread and dipping oil, which is the only thing that I thought tasted the way it should. Luckily the service was miles better than any of the food.

Food is ok but i wont say very good. The asher dressed up and thats an added point for this restaurant. Its like a bar and sandwich place but they dont serve coffee (only wine). I ordered a shrimp linguini with spicy tomato sauce. its OK taste. Good if you just wanna eat something

We wanted to go here because of the window seats. The first thing the hostess said to us when we came inside was "We don't have window seats anymore." So she sat us in the middle of the restaurant, which was fine...the waiter came over in good order and asked us if we wanted some drinks. We asked him for more time - he took this far too literally (for the rest of the night). He came back in about 15 minutes, and we still didn't have bread or water. We ordered two cocktails, both of which weren't terrible but not worth the price. Finally the bread came, and we ate it quickly because we were still waiting for our waiter to come take our order. It took a solid 10 more minutes before he returned, at which time we were very hungry. He took our order; we had to flag another server down to ask for more bread, and it was given to us...without oil. More waiting. I ordered tubular pasta with shrimp and it was about as bland as it gets. There wasn't an ounce of seasoning in the entire dish: I could've had better food at a homeless shelter. If you want real Italian food go to Panza, it's right across the street.

Stop 3 on my moms Boston bar hopping bday bash. My girlfriend and I have been here before, and I'm surprised at myself that I haven't written a review yet. The past times we have come, we had dinner, and our meals have always been good. The first time we came was for Valentine's Day, and we had an excellent meal. The 2nd time we came, we tried to get the same thing, but they didn't have it on menu, however they were nice enough to still make it for us. Not as great as the time before, but it was still very good. This time, we came and had some drinks only. The bar was extremely packed, but that's what you expect when you're in the middle of the North End on a Saturday.

I have been going here regularly since I moved to Boston a few years ago. The past few times I've gone have been pretty bad though. The food is always good but the service is terrible. My boyfriend and I planned on going here for our 4 year anniversary and our last dinner out in Boston before moving. We wanted a window seat or at least a seat with some space but even though there were 4 tops open, they put us in a tiny 2 top against a wall. We couldn't even see the menu it was so dark. We told the waitress it was too dark and confined and without trying to figure something out for us, she said "okay bye!" Obviously didn't care about regular customers. Won't go back. Really disappointed.

A friend and I went to Florentine Cafe for dinner on Friday, 11/1 at around 7:30. We chose the restaurant after my friend had happened upon the restaurant on a previous trip to the North End. He had a great lunch experience, so he suggested we try it out for dinner. The food was excellent. We had the burrata and the bruschetta for appetizers. Both were quite nice, particularly the burrata. We shared a Caesar salad, which was very good. For entrees, we had the black spaghetti with clams and calamari and the mushroom tortteloni. They were both delicious, resulting in full stomachs and empty plates. Unfortunately, our service didn't live up to the quality of the food. Our server Mike's goal seemed to be to get us out of there as quickly as possible. Upon being seated, we started with bottled water and wine, wanting to relax a bit before eating. Mike was very persistent about taking our order, despite us telling him we weren't yet ready several times. In an effort to get him to leave us alone, we ordered our appetizers and indicated we still needed to review the menu to choose entrees. Mike wasn't having any of that-- he made it very clear to us that we would order our entrees when he delivered the appetizers. Ah, ok.... we graciously complied with his demand. After finishing our entrees, I had about a half a glass of wine left and my friend wanted to get coffee. Mike asked if we wanted dessert, and we replied that we did not. Mike's response shocked us-- apparently he would not serve us coffee unless we also got dessert! He stated that "we serve more dinner and drinks here" and he stated that there were plenty of other places nearby where we could go to get coffee. His parting comment as he left his table was directed towards me, as he curtly said "and you, finish your wine". While we thoroughly enjoyed the food, the attitude of our server Mike was just awful. I would love to have that mushroom tortteloni again, but I'm not sure I'd want to subject myself to the wait staff there again in the event Mike's attitude is the norm rather than the exception.

Florentine is one of the few places in the North End that has a full bar. It's always busy on the weekends. People gather around the bar for drinks and it gives you the impression that the bar is over capacity. The food is good but there are better places in the North End..I like going to Florentine for drinks and eat at the bar. For diner, the tables are next to each other and it does't give you the feeling of an intimate diner..after 10pm once the diner is done, you can just go ahead and seat yourself and have drinks with friends. They have a server in charge of the restaurant who keeps checking on you so you don't have to go to the bar to order drinks. The antipasto wasn't too great there..

Two words: Gino Juice. Came here for lunch with a girlfriend; asked to be seated by the window where there was an open table but the waitress said no! She said they were reserving that open table for parties of four or more and we ended up being seated basically IN these poor girls' laps at the table next to us ... Waitress was a sweetheart - very attentive. Brought us a basket of delicious bread of which I shamefully consumed the majority. My friend and I split the fried mozzarella (yum!) - definitely a big enough portion for two. We also split the pesto chicken mozzarella panini which was fantastic. The gino juice is a light -- almost lighter than sangria -- drink with fresh fruit and a bit of fizz. I have no idea whats it in but it's heaven and it packs a punch. The prices were definitely appropriate for the North End without being too pricey. The food and drinks were delish. The service by the waitress was just right - only weak link was the hostess and her refusal to seat us where we wanted. Regardless, I'll be back soon!

I've been in Boston almost 10 years now. I know the north end really well, but never get there often enough. I think I'm just majorly intimidated by the hoards of tourists. Enter Florentine Cafe. Prime time Saturday night about 10 pm, my date and I walked right in and perched at the bar without issue. It was a cozy neighborhood feeling bar. Busy, not packed, noisy but not LOUD. It had a great liveliness to it. Everything looked and smelled amazing. Our drinks were fast, strong, and reasonable. Loved the lemon drop!! If you want to hit a cool bar with a mix of legit locals and chill tourists. Stop in and check it.

We went in for a late lunch. The place was 25% full with plenty of open tables. We asked for a window table and told no. We had to sit at an interior wall table. Needless to say we took our business elsewhere.

Located just across the street from Mike's Pastry in the North End ( yelp.com/biz/mikes-pastr… ), the Florentine Cafe features authentic Italian cuisine at reasonable prices. I visited for lunch and was rewarded with the cheesiest, gooiest, most oozing calzone I've ever had. With spinach and salami also stuffed inside and warm marinara on the side for dipping, it was the perfect middle for my 3-course lunch (cannoli -- calzone -- canoli). My date had a pizza with mushrooms and sausage, which she also liked, but I think she was more into my calzone, as she kept requesting bites. Lucky for her I'm a nice guy and a good sharer... There may not be anything spectacular about the Florentine cafe, but the eats were good, the service was swift, and the location was great. Works for me!

Pretty great Italian food. As a half Italian born Canadian I can say everything I had was delicious. Not Nonna quality, but still great. I ordered: a glass of the Syrah (decent) Antipasto Carpiccioso (cured meats were spot on) linguine gongole e calamari (said to be spicy, good calamari and baby clams) Very tasty and the service was great. I suggest the Antipasto.

Unlike the other amazing finds in the North End, the Florentine Cafe has more seating space so the wait is much shorter, and you can seated immediately even on a busy weekday night. I checked this place out after work a few weeks ago with a friend after work and the North End was full of hour long lines. I am so glad we decided to leave another line and try this place. It is the best food I've ever had in the North End (and have spent way too much time there.) I highly recommend the seafood. I got calamari as well as a pork dish which had an amazing sauce that was to die for. The seating was comfortable and less cramped than much of the North End and the food was superb. Highly recommend!

Following the Freedom Trail from USS Constitution to Paul Revere house, we passed thru Little Italy. Somehow decided on Florentine Cafe, a nice cozy cafe on the corner. Ordered two items, a pepperoni pizza and a pasta dish. Both were an ok item, nothing to write home about. Service was good, place was clean.

Came across this place since my coworker & I wanted to dine on some comfort food. Service was good and prices were reasonable. We shared a bottle of wine which was too warm for my liking. I started w/ the mista salad w/ grilled shrimp. The shrimp was very good and salad was drenched in dressing. For dinner, I went w/ the waitress's suggestion and ordered the mushroom tortolloni. It was very good but rich since it was served w/ white sauce. Quick service though.

Great find in Boston along the Freedom Trail! Open air dining , crisp cold delish Chardonnay and spinach ravioli to die for!! Skip the place down the street with the long line..... Florentine Cafe was FAB!!

This is an over-priced Northern Italian Restaurant in the North End with a fun bar and a really quaint old world appearance. For dinner, much better can be had in this neighborhood for the same price or less. However, the bar can be a fun place to stop for a glass of wine or even a bottle. They have a decent wine list for a Boston bar. However, the North end is one of the best areas in town to find wine so there are other good local options for wine as well. The bruschetta and calamari were both mediocre and better can be found for less in the neighborhood. The Grilled swordfish was good, but the cut was a little thin and over buttered. I liked the touch of red pepper and cappers, but the butter was too much for me. I wouldn't recommend ordering this. I have friends that rave about this place, but it didn't do it for me. They do have a big room down stairs that can be rented for events which is nice.

I got there with my date a half hour before the kitchen opened. The staff was extremely friendly and brought us some drinks while we watched people walking outside from our table right next to the window. Our server Mike was very nice and the rest of the staff were always checking to see if we needed anything. The atmosphere was great and romantic. The food was by far the best part. I had a pasta dish with a spicy tomato sauce, shrimp, a lobster tail and clams. The shrimp were big and very fresh. The lobster was the same. I was very surprised with how big of a tail it was. It came with a decent amount of clams which were fresh. The sauce only had a tiny bit of spice which made it easy to eat. The pasta was cooked to perfection. My date ordered a pasta and chicken dish which was great too. Both portions were big and filling. My only complaint is that the sodas we ordered were served in tiny glasses. Overall this was one of the best meals I have ever had. I will be back soon for the same dish or another seafood dish.

We went for a quick lunch right when they opened. I had the Italian sausage panini, which was very flavorful and just the right size to hold you over to dinner. My wife had a salad and the kids split an order of spaghetti and meatballs. Service was great. We were in and out in about 40 minutes. Will definitely return on our next trip.

Okay, this was 2005 that I was there, so things may have changed a bit, but... The lobster ravioli was sooooo good! Don't remember if I was especially hungry or what, but that was the BEST Italian dish that I've ever had in my life.

I should have known to move on to another restaurant on this well known street when seating was easily available and other places had a line out the door. While waiting the 15 minutes for a table we decided to have a drink at the bar. It took 10 minutes for the bartender to even make eye contact because he was too busy OCDing the menus (which were already organized). Once getting to the table the waitress came by to confirm that we already had drinks - that was the last we saw her for the next 15 minutes. When she did come back it was all about getting the app and main courses ordered in one shot. Once the appetizers arrived it had been so long that we decided to order another drink. After being crystal clear about what type of wine we drinking, when the wrong white wine (Chardonnay instead of Sav Blanc) was delivered we attempted to flag down the waitress.. eye contact was made but no movement by the waitress. Finally, when she did come over there was a disagreement on what we ordered... it was clear that it was the wrong thing. The main finally came and we had hoped for the best... we were once again disappointed. The rigatoni and bolognese was 'meh' at best and the tubettoni genovese was so wildly overcooked that the shrimp could not be cut, the clams where hard, and the lobster was overly rubber like. We couldn't get out of the soon enough.

Small, crowded place, with a small bar. We went early on a Saturday for lunch, so there was no wait. The calamari was perfectly cooked, with a light breading. Butternut squash ravioli was the best I have had. It is filled with butternut squash, almond cookie, and cheese. The carpise sandwich with prosciutto was on large toasted fresh bread, with delicious mozzarella, tomatoes and pesto.

I do not recommend. My girlfriend and I go and eat in the North End quite often and went last weekend when her sister was in town with her boyfriend. For lunch we had the cheese ravioli, mushroom panini, some other panini, and I had a calzone. Each dish was very bland, overly cheesy for not having any seasoning. The ravioli were good, maybe a bit undercooked, but the sauce was very boring. We will not be going back to give it a second chance.

We descended upon Florentine Cafe one chilly night, a large army of hungry foodies coming straight from work. Wine and martinis were ordered, service was performed (SERVICE, not SERVICES) and food was shared and devoured. It was epic. Top points for the friendly service, esp. our waiter, who was almost a stereotype of the young, jovial, fast-talking "wisecracker" Italian guy. He put up with our endless questions, confusion, last-minute changes, substitutes and irrational need to split our bill over 7 credits cards + cash. What a trooper! I'm so used to North End restaurants only serving wine that I was amazed by their list of delicious-sounding martinis and couldn't resist ordering me a Vanilla Cake. It was so good, my friend and I got the bartender's recipe on a napkin. Now to recreate back home. Unoriginality is fun! Fooood. The calamari was pretty tasty and plentiful, and not too batter-y. The tuna carpaccio had good garnishes but the tuna itself was lacking in flavor. The eggplant came smothered in delicious tomato sauce which therefore validated its reason to exist for me. For entrees, a whole bunch of us got the second thing under Pasti, the one with thick noodles, clams and arugula. Apparently, it was our waiter's favorite and that's why most people ordered it, but I turn part-deaf when I have alcohol and actually didn't hear him say that, so I like to think I ordered it because I have fabulous taste in what other people like. I tried the sea bass and it was also good as was the mushroom ravioli and vegetarian lasagna with pesto. Chitchat was our dessert and we closed out the place, though they were super-nice and never treated us as impositions. Fun times.

Food was mediocre. Ordered the lobster ravioli and the pasta was not fully cooked and the overall taste was like it was from a frozen package from the grocery store. Also the bus person that picked up the dishes picked up my dirty napkin and put it right on top of the Parmesan shaker and put it back with the others to be used again did not even clean the top of the shaker. The restaurant is not all clean enough . The overall service was pretty bad would not recommend this restaurant to anyone . Not at all a true Italian restaurant

Fun atmosphere. We lucked out and got seated right away (initially we were told it would be a 30-45 minute wait, but a table was open.) We had a very friendly, funny server who was great. Got the prosciutto and roast pear with goat cheese appetizer, which was yummy. No beers on tap but a decent wine selection, from what I can tell. Solid (but not mind-blowing) food - my family ordered the lobster ravioli, seafood stew, rack of lamb, and veal. My ravioli was quite good with a rich and creamy sauce, but I would've liked it to be more flavorful. Veal could've been more tender. The shellfish in the stew were nicely cooked and not overdone like at some other places, with a good tomato-based sauce. We did really like the variety in the menu - lots of interesting choices and not just typical Italian fare.

Met my Wife and 5 y/o Little Girl here for lunch for a pre-Disney "Princess on Ice" event. The restaurant earned itself a definite, "eh" rating. The waiter was okay, but nothing to write to Yelp! about; same for the hostess. The food was also okay. We enjoyed it, but no one loved it. Totally, "eh." For ambiance, there was an older local at the bar who suggested he was the owner, and who repeatedly cursed out one of the bussing staff for his lack of English skills, and he did so loudly enough for the nearby patrons and other workers to also hear. Since my Wife and I aren't trying to teach out Daughter the F-Bomb OR prejudice, this wasn't quite the ambiance we were hoping for.

Another decent Italian place. Clams and mussels is a must and their proscuitto e pear is another must. So damn good. Risotto on the other hand tasted so plain that I didn't even finish a third. And their lasagna was alright. probably not the best choices when it comes to judging a restaurant but they lose all credibility if they offer risotto and do a piss poor job at it. For guys who are into MILF's or cougars, this might be a good place to come. I know. You are welcome!

The veal rolled around prosciutto and mozzarella "special" was Outstanding! Should be a regular menu item. Perfectly cooked, not dry.

I don't know how to give a 3.5, but if I did, I would. Ambience was nice, esp the impression it gives you from the outside, but the food was just OK. I was looking for something more authentic, but all we really had was an Italian sausage panini and fettuccine with meatballs, so that might be part of the reason why it seemed so basic. The bar area really looks great -- fun place to meet friends and hang out for awhile. It was really nice to get a window seat since they had two tables separated (two days ago they wouldn't seat us at the window because there were only two of us .) If you're looking for authentic Italian food, maybe somewhere else in the North End would fit the bill. If you really just care about a decent meal and pleasant atmosphere, this is a fitting spot to get them in.

3.5 stars, not quite a 4. My friend and I were supposed to be going to Giacomo, except when we got there we realized they don't have lunch hours. We ended up at the Florentine Cafe next door. Do keep in mind thus, as you read my review, that given my bad experiences at the North End restaurants, my expectations were very low. My friend and I both had the clam linguine. She had it in the spicy tomato sauce and I had the white sauce. I was surprised they offered the white sauce since everyone else I saw had some sorta red sauce pasta. Anyway, the ppl next to us had food that smelled delicious the whole time so I was happy when our food came, it tasted delicious as well. I was impressed. But really, I think the best part about this restaurant is the fact that it had open windows. I love basking in sunshine while having lunch. It wasn't so good that I'd be a regular though, and probably won't go back again until l I've tried all the other restaurants in the neighbourhood.

We were lucky enough to end up here the other night - likely one of the last nights of the season where they will have all the front windows swung open - with a table on the window. All of the food we ordered was quite good...but we all couldn't help to compare everything we paid for to what they gave us for free, which was the spectacular garlic and herb infused olive oil that came with the bread. A couple of us actually drizzled some on our entrees :) If the entree includes garlic as an ingredient, don't order it on a first date. Seriously, they don't mess around with garlic. Don't get me wrong, I love garlic and enjoyed every bite of my garlicky pasta and seafood dish, but WHEW! we all needed Mentos just to sit with each other in the car on the drive home. All of our entrees, in fact, were so good that we were passing forkfulls around the table just to sample. Just a word of warning. Our 6'5'' dinner companion was not terribly comfortable at the table. They are packed quite tightly together, and the tables themselves didn't allow for much under-table leg room. And due to the proximity of the tables to the packed bar area, he couldn't stretch his legs in the aisle, or he would have been tripping waitstaff and patrons alike.

It's pretty good - the appetizer was really good, but the entree was only ok... at first I was going to give it 4 stars, but three weeks passed and I couldn't even remember what I had - very unmemorable, which makes me realize that it wasn't all that great. The sweetie loved it, so it makes me question my rating a bit. I think if this place was anywhere other than the North End, it would get another star, but given how many great restaurant there are in that neighborhood, I say skip it.

Authentic for several reasons: 1. Upscale lovely atmosphere, peppered with locals dropping under-their-breath F-bombs at the football game. Nice dichotomy! 2. Call me a weirdo, but I like Lemoncello BEFORE I eat. And most Italian places don't even serve it anymore. 3. The olive oil for the bread had minced garlic and crushed red pepper in it. This was unique, and something you don't find in modern Italian places. 4. Insalata d'arancio e salmone - The fennel, orange, and salmon salad was just large cross cuts of each, like your grandmother threw it together, instead of some slice and dice chef. 5. When something says Homemade at an Italian restaurant, in general, GET IT. Cassarecci Porto Ercole was an A+! The noodles were perfect. You can taste the flour and egg, and the tomato sauce was magnifique. Add in some lobster tail, shrimp, and clams and you are there. Our waitress was lovely and helpful. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name. She's the one who rides the Vespa. Thank you for a splendid evening.

My wife and I looked for a cool place to eat in Little Italy and Cafe Florentine looked awesome. We shared a pizza and the sauce was fantastic. I ordered a Diet Coke and our server refilled it at a fevered pace. Love it. We both loved the small Italian flavor to the place and had a great lunch by the window on a great day. Service was cool and a great lunch!

I don't plan to go back. Mostly because the waiter insulted me right at the beginning. Shortly after being seated we were asked if we wanted anything to drink. My father ordered Chianti and I ordered Pinot Grigio. The waiter looked at me and said, "You know that is white wine right?" No, I don't, I'm stupid and picked a wine out of the "White Wine by the Glass" list thinking that it was a red wine. That insulted me and my father. After that, the food was fine. Under-seasoned, which meant it had little flavor and the pasta was a little over-cooked, but it was ok. Like I said, I'm not going back because I was insulted by my waiter. There are plenty of other restaurants in Boston.

Stopped in here for lunch on a whim today while visiting the Boston area. I'd give this 2.5 if I could, but I'll settle with a 2 star rating. Liked the vibe of the place, it was pretty packed for a 2pm lunch service. Cute paintings on the back wall, one tv for the bar. Service was decent. Checked some other reviews before ordering and tried the Lobster Ravioli...wasn't amazing.. Pasta was overcooked and under seasoned, filling was ok, sauce was ok. My boyfriend had ordered the gnocchi marscapone, and I thought that was better of our two dishes.

My parents were visiting from out of town and staying in the North End...perfect opportunity to enjoy great italian food. ..i didnt do any research figuring any place would be good. not so. the food at Florentine was chewy and flavorless. the shrimp seemed like it had been overcooked...possibly cooked much earlier and warmed up. The chicken parm was the worst i have ever had. I only gave it two stars because they did take the food off the bill and we only paid for our wine...which was delicious. Lesson learned: some restaurants in the north end are not good. do your research!

This place was really good. It's right on Hanover, and looks pretty touristy at first glance. We ended up at the bar killing time until our reservation elsewhere in the North End. But, after one Gino Juice (from the wonderful bartender, Gino) and one of his crazy good apple martinis, I needed some food in my stomach immediately. They were able to give us a table right away, which was awesome for a Saturday in the North End with no reservations. We did seem to get one of the last tables before there was a line out the door. I got the lobster ravioli. It was good, not the best I've had, but good. The standout was the boys food, the zuppa di crostaci- AMAZING. That's really all I can say, there was so much seafod. Also, all of the chairs are this awesome purple/brown faux (?) alligator skin.

I realize we'd just come off a bike ride and were not dressed for a nice meal out, but it was the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday. Deal with it. My friend and I tried to get lunch at Florentine Cafe at 3:40 (it may have been slightly earlier), which serves lunch until 4, but were told that the kitchen was now closed, to which I responded, but you serve until 4. Apparently not. I'm just assuming it was because of my attire, though maybe I shouldn't make that assumption. We went to the North End specifically to have a repeat of the meal we'd had previously, which was delicious; we knew what we wanted, we could have ordered immediately, AND we offered to take the food to go so they wouldn't have to look at us. Not cool, Florentine. If you don't want to serve lunch past a certain time, change the hours you've posted and tell your hostess to go home.

This is the best restaurant that you have never heard of! (despite the bread they serve) Came here with my fellow state HR coworkers for our usual 2 hour lunch. (What can I say: when you eat as much as we state employees you really need the extra hour to pack it in) Had the Lobster Ravioli! As per the menu: "Served with chunks of lobster meat, in a tomato cream sauce." And when they say "chunks" they mean CHUNKS! And Chunks of high quality, fresh lobster! And I could just eat the tomato sauce as a soup! it is THAT good! And all for $14 on the lunch menu!!! So why not 5 stars? The bread they serve with the food. :*( It is soooooo bad I would not give it to the Geese on the Chestnut Hill Reservoir. And why not? Because the Geese would attack me! (Or at least do something unspeakable to my car) Serving bad bread with a great meal is sort of like picking up your dinner date in a Ferrari but you are dressed like one of the cast of "Jersey Shore." It just does not pair well! Though the bread is excellent for chucking at your coworkers since it makes a much better projectile then the cannoli at Caffé Vittoria .

I think the chef at Café Florentine only knows how to make one tomato sauce. 4 dishes, and all had the same flavor with varying consistencies of sauce and not in a good way... After a good glass of Chianti, I tried my friend's Mushroom Tortellini first, and it turned out to be the best dish at our table. The big, ricotta and portebella-stuffed tortellini put the bella in portabella, though I was sad about not having the opportunity to taste the cream sauce it comes with (my friend asked for tomato instead). The Gnocchi al Pomodoro consisted of perfect little chewy balls of potato goodness. Right on with the texture, right on with the flavor, and this particular version of the sauce was a good consistency. Sadly, my linguini with clams and calamari was not nearly as good. The clams were fine but the calamari didn't taste fresh. Sadly, the flavor of the seafood wasn't at all cooked into the sauce. I also tried what looked like a fusilli with seafood dish. Great pasta but the sauce was a bit dry. Both seafood dishes lacked unity - the seafood seemed more like an afterthought or a garnish. Not bad for a restaurant, but trust me, there are definitely better places in North End.

Food was good, service was on par with McDonald's. We ate here last night on our first trip to Boston. We are from New York and are very familiar with Arthur Ave. and Little Italy so we wanted to try out what Boston had to offer. We more or less stumbled onto the restaurant, only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table for 3, which by New York standards is nothing. Once sitting down, we were barely greeted by our server, come to think of it I'm not sure he ever told us his name, he just asked what he could get us. We ordered Filetto di Manzo al' Balsamico and 2 orders of Risotto Pescatore. The food was very good, all 3 of us finished our plates however the service will definitely keep us from ever returning. Not once were we ever asked how everything was, if we needed anything and never saw our waiter again until it was time to take payment. We twice had to flag down other servers to ask for another glass of wine and some salt and pepper. I found it quite unprofessional that other servers were sitting in the dining room folding napkins and texting on their phones. Even though we really wanted to have a cannoli and a cup of coffee to wrap up the night, we just were so appalled by the lack of service that we decided to cut our losses and go to the pastry shop across the street. For a neighborhood lined with Italian restaurants, the staff needs to know how to set themselves apart to keep people coming back. For the amount of money we spent, the food wasn't enough.

I thought that food was ok, but I did have a great seat by the window and therefore a great view of people walking by. The tables were a little close to one another, and was a little hard to squeeze to our table, but once seated, it was fine. I had the lobster ravioli, which was delicious and therefore I gave it three stars, otherwise, I would have given it two. My boyfriend had prosciutto with pear and goat cheese, which was pretty standard and the fried mozzarella, which was delicious but too salty. Probably wouldn't have dinner here again because there are so many other restaurants to try out in the neighborhood.

The Giacomo's alternative when you're not down for the whole line thing. Chicken parmesan was good. Not the best I've had in the North End. Same with the bruschetta app. Very good, not great. A very 4 star experience. Not 5 stars, but still much better than average.

We made a reservation at another restuarant but we still have to wait for an hour and this place is right around the corner so we gave in. Lobster ravioli was good. Other than that everything else was ok. My friend order one of the pasta sadly it was flavorless. It's a good addtion to the North End.

Good place to take a date or dine with friends. The food is superb. Every pasta dish I've gotten has been great. The apps are tasty also. I have to agree with Vicki C on their impressive martinis. Great servers, great food, cool location. Florentine Cafe is a winner.

I ate there on fri 6-7, the place was full but not packed. first we ordered two peartinis. I watched the bartender shake them, pour them, and then watched them sit on the bar for 8 minutes. Whats the the point of ordering an ice cold martini, and then getting it served warm? strike one! They served bread ( I,m used to brooklyn Italian bread) This was like supermarket Italian bread. strike two! The salad was fine, not outrageous. I ordered the veal chop. It was ok , but nothing special and was over cooked and tough. strike 3! Nice bar , slow service. After dining in many nyc Italian restaurants. to be honest, this was a let down

This restaurant is definitely not a gem. I feel extra bummed about eating here for lunch today since there were so many other restaurants to choose from in the North End. -the cafe is great for people watching, tables are situated by the terrace windows -service was awkward, our waiter was not nice and the bus boy dropped the bread on the table loudly -food is the most important aspect for me, and this place totally failed. we had calamari to start and it was not very flavorful. the pasta dish i had did not impress me at all. i only ate it cause i was starving!! anyways, this place takes advantage of their location and has nothing special to offer. North End has so many great restaurants to try, but this Florentine Cafe is a letdown.

the default spot for me in the north end, and that's no backhanded compliment. gino's a first-rate bartender, always on key with my classic concoctions. all the bartenders are great at remembering faces. protip: if you're not looking to meet someone here (on purpose or just bumping into that guy you saw a few hours ago), then don't bother coming in. if you're looking to eat across from st. leonard's church, then this is the place. but if you're more about the menu selection against the prices, i'd suggest you dig a little deeper: this is a better bar than kitchen (though i wouldn't object if you order the calamari)

I came here for a late Sunday lunch and was thrilled with the food, the people watching and a seat in the window. The food was good, the wine decent but maybe needed to be a bit more chilled- I'm a fan of a nice cold glass of white wine on a hot summer day and the seat in the window for people watching was wonderful. My fiancé was thrilled because they had a TV going with the Patriots game on and I was happy to enjoy talking some with him and my future mother in law, watching the people stroll around the North End and enjoying a good meal. We order a pizza and pasta carbonarra to share and she ordered an Italian sausage sandwich. The pizza was wonderful with a great brick oven crust that is so crisp and fluffy I could eat it all the time and the pasta was great but to me no carbonarra is complete without peas and there were no peas in sight. My mother in laws sandwich was great, she could barely eat the whole thing it was so huge. To top it all off the staff was wonderful, part of it might have been that we were there between busy times but no one was rushing us or trying to get us to leave so my fiancé got to sit and watch the end of the game in peace and we chatted away happy to enjoy the sunshine and people watching. I'd love to come back and see how their dinner is but for lunch and people watching, the food and location and perfect!

I've been here twice, months apart and it is one of my favorite (albeit touristy) places in the north end. My boyfriend loves the steak and the first time we went, the risotto that came with it was delectable. The second time, the risotto was just so-so. I had the pumpkin ravioli with the butternut squash sauce and it was sooooooo good. The bread and garlic olive oil before the meal was also wonderful. Overall, solid italian food!

Great area and atmosphere to dine. The food was ok. My friends and I each tried a different pasta and I had the Linguini Mussels, I wish it was just a little spicier but it was still really good. The lobster ravioli was ok.

I have been to Florentine Cafe several times and while I want to give it a 4, the restaurant tends to be unpredictable, so I can't. Depending on the night you go you may have a completely different experience. Their calamari can range from perfection to under-seasoned and their service is equally inconsistent. All that aside they have an amazing Lobster Ravioli and Risotto Pescatore and they have a much shorter wait than most N end establishments due to their size.

2 1/2 stars if I had to rate my experience. I went here last night with a girlfriend. There were definitely some good things about our experience and some not so good. The decor is classic Italian, warm and comfortable, with a huge ornate wooden bar. We sat down to a table, ordered two glasses of wine and a Caesar salad to split as the appetizer. There was no fresh ground pepper offered, which seemed odd, but no big deal. The waiter didn't have much of a personality. The service was ok, somewhere between meh and decent. Everything came out, but he was pretty much non-existent throughout the meal. I'm not sure if he even did a check back to see if we liked our meals. The food itself was delicious. I had some pasta (no idea what kind it was) with clams and a small lobster tail. It was delicious, and I ate the whole thing. My friend had a duck and pasta dish, and she said it was wonderful. When the runner had delivered it to our table, he asked if he wanted Parmesan cheese. We told him yes. He plunked down a SHAKER of cheese like you find at a Papa Gino's. For the money you're paying, they should have fresh ground pepper and grated cheese offered at the table. The background music played was shitty dance music (and I like dance music), but I don't want to hear it when I'm trying to eat a nice Italian meal. I remember looking at my friend during our meal and saying "Are they playing Britney Spears right now??" The entrees are priced between 23-28 dollars. My girlfriend and I spent about $80, not including tip. For the money, it should have been better.

I heart this place. Probably have been here 3 more times and every time it's perfect. It's been awhile since I've been due to me living 6 hours away. The food is ALWAYS great, the atmosphere is perfect (love the door window thingys all around *Forget correct term*) and each time the service is friendly, helpful and has their sh*t together! The waiters I've had always keep the wine & water full and can answer any questions you may have about the menu. I don't get (even from reading other reviews) why this place doesn't have more stars! Reevaluate your palettes people!

pretty good linguini and fried calamari!! excellent service as well. The location of the restaurant is pretty strategic, it's located along the main street and pretty easy to be found. The restaurant will start seating for dinner around 5pm. Will definitely come back again.

I had a guy bring me here on a first date and I thought it was pretty cute. I love the feel of the place, the set up, the way it just seems to blend in with the North End environment. The service was good and the food was exactly what I needed. I had the shrimp scampi. It was perfect, albeit, a terrible first-date meal. I spent most of the time fighting to get the noodles on the fork and ended up just eating the shrimp, but still fantastic. I really liked it but, at the same time, it wasn't anything that particularly blew me away. We were sat, served, ate, brought the check, and on our way. I couldn't justify giving it 4 stars. I'll have to try it again sometime. Interesting review pending.

Went here on the suggestion of a friend. It was a busy Friday night and we didn't have reservations so everywhere was starting to fill up and we walked by. I just can't resist a place with open window seating. I just love it. They managed to get us in right next the window within 5 minutes. The house pinot grigio was actually pretty great for a house wine. Which is why we each had more than one glass. I absolutely adored our waiter. Not only did he provide attentive service, but his attitude/personality and style was too much fun! My sister opted for the scampi linguine and she said it was just what she wanted. I had the lobster ravioli and the sauce was perfection. It just hit the spot. Minor detail, but I really liked the bread that came out, sometimes these places miss the mark on that, but Florentine Cafe does it right. Lastly, we decided to share the tiramisu. It.was.wonderful. Probably the best I've had and you could tell it was freshly made. I'd recommend sharing with someone because the piece we received was a really generous portion. We couldn't quite finish it and actually felt guilty leaving something so delicious behind. I really liked the ambiance in here. It can be a bit more intimate earlier, but it was a Celtics playoff night and as the game came to an end, it started to get pretty fun in there as everyone was into the game! So it almost had two feels to it which I found amusing.

Just another Italian restaurant in the North End. The chicken Parm came with less than a cup of pasta. Not much compared to the breast that took up the entire plate. I also had to ask for extra suace because there was not an adequate amount on the dish.

Good place for pre-game drinks while you're waiting for a table at one of the restaurants in the area. The bar area isn't that big, and can get crowded, but the bar staff was responsive. I've only ever had drinks there, but the food going by smelled good.

I have lived in Charlestown for a little over a year now and have tried to go here a half a dozen times but it is always packed. We finally were able to find a day where we could be seated right away. We sat down for a quick casual dinner and were very happy with the food and service. The chicken parm was excellent and my girl friend enjoyed her salad and mussels. It is a great place to grab some early drinks during the summer! Try to get a seat by the open windows and enjoy the live entertainment that is people watching in the North End. This is a really good and safe bet for food and drinks in the North End.

The boyfriend and I went there for a nice Saturday night in the North End. He had his standard favorite restaurant in the area, but we thought we'd try something different and stopped at the first place with no line and some appealing sounding menu items. We waited at the hostess stand for a while, and nobody came to seat us. Waitresses and other staff kept walking by, but we never got eye contact. Finally, a group of four came in, and that must have caught someone's attention. They were seated, and then we were. The waitress came by (after a little wait) and asked, "Do you guys know what you're having?" So we ordered our main courses and wines, and she tried to rush away before we could volunteer our appetizer order. I've never seen a waitress at a nice restaurant miss an opportunity to suggest an appetizer. This one practically tried to avoid it! As far as the taste goes, the complimentary bread was very nice, soft, and warm. The caprese salad had good mozzarella, great balsamic vinegar reduction, and terrible, yellow (the unripe kind of yellow) tomatoes. I had the pumpkin ravioli in a cream sauce, which was tasty and satisfying, if a little overpriced. Boyfriend had the lobster ravioli. I tasted it, and it was too fishy-tasting. The boyfriend hated the sauce on his, but I just thought it was unremarkable. I obviously won the battle of the entrees. But the real takeaway is that $19 is way, way, way too much to charge for 7 mediocre ravioli. Especially when we're in the heart of great restaurant central. The waitress never came back during dinner to check on whether everything was okay. That's inexcusable. We always tip, but this time we tipped just shy of 15%, with a note: "We hate to tip less than 20%, but the service was SO inattentive." Hopefully that's better than leaving a paltry tip without explanation!

Went here with my boyfriend for a birthday dinner. We were running late and wanted to find a place near Mike's Pastry (to get some cannolis to go of course). We stumbled into Florentine because it was across the street and open later than most of the other restaurants around on a Tuesday night. I don't know whether I went on the off night or other yelpers did, but I thought The Florentine Cafe was AMAZING. The service was great and it was probably one of the best meals I've had in a while. I had the beef carpaccio, porcini tortelloni and a glass of chianti. I had dreams about the tortelloni for about a week afterwards. I also liked that the oil served with the bread came pre-spiced with some hot pepper, basil, etc. I am not that picky of an eater, but I have certainly been disappointed in the North End before; I'm not sure if it was my order or what, but this may have been my favorite dinner to date in our little italy. Around 11 they started playing some pretty loud techno. I kind of liked the dichotomy, but I can see where others might disagree on that note. Not necessarily an example of culinary genius, but for some good Italian standbys, I will definitely return.

I can only comment on the drinks and the staff here. The drinks were great, I went all over Boston looking for a place that served New Castle, and they had it. They have this stoli shot with pineapple... BRILLIANT! The staff here is by far the friendliest in the world. It was standing room only and there was an off-duty employee there who gave up his seat. Chatted up with the bartender, who happens to be related to the owner of the place, very nice people. The other waiter on duty was a blast too! The two off-duty employees gave us tips on things to do in Boston and where to go. They were so friendly, I even got to playing 'Words with Friends' with one of them. The drinks were great, the company was even greater. That is why for now, this is a 4/5.

Wanted to go to Giacomo's but the line was too long. So we opted for The Florentine Cafe. The atmosphere was nice, but I wasn't overly impressed. I feel like the meals are a bit over priced. I order classic Chicken Parm my niece ordered Linguini Shrimp Scampi. The meals also did not include even a tiny starter salad. Fine - some places don't. My chix parm was kind of like a "purdue frozen" cutlet barely covered in sauce. Most italian restaurants also offer fresh mozz. My niece's shrimp scampi tasted like someone simply drizzled lemon juice over it. So, yes, I've had better. It wasn't horrible, but not typical of the "North End"!

The Florentine Cafe is at best a mediocre restaurant, but a fabulous bar! My wife and I went for lunch this weekend, as we often find ourselves wandering around the North End at two or three o'clock in the afternoon looking for a late lunch/early dinner. We ordered some Bruschetta as an appetizer, and it was pretty much just some italian bread with tomatoes and cheese, nothing inspired, but just fine if you're looking for a nosh with your drinks. I ordered the Pollo Fra Diavolo and was rather disappointed - the sauce was greasy and lacked flavor and pizazz - though it did have a slight kick it was nothing like the fiery goodness of a really good diavolo sauce. My wife chose the salmon risotto and it was similarly underwhelming, an utterly uninteresting piece of grilled salmon (tasted like it wasn't seasoned at all) and a big blop of mostly flavorless creamy rice. What saved this place from a two star review was my mixed drink - I had the Florentine Cosmopolitan (Who says guys can't drink a cosmo? :) and it was fabulous. Beautifully blended flavors that went down very smooth. This place just radiates neighborhood charm, the recent restoration efforts have really paid off. I can easily see myself coming back here for drinks and appetizers, just give the entrees a pass and you'll enjoy yourself immensely :)

They serve the best Lobster Raviole I have ever had period. The sauce is very flavourful but not overpowering the whole meal. The taste and the texture of the ravioli itself is so good that you can serve it with any other sauce and it will still be a hit. Get that with a glass of peroni / any red wine and you are set for the night. One note, make sure that the bread served to you is warm or else you will feel like eating a tasteless globs of baked flour

We based our choice of The Florentine Cafe on The Rules of the Lines: whenever you have a choice of dining establishments (and with 108 Italian restaurants in the North End of Boston, you have nothing if not choice), always pick the one with the longest line/biggest crowd. We passed by several highly-Yelped Italians like Maurizio's and Giacomo's, but they were nearly empty at about 2pm. Florentine is known for their lobster ravioli, and it is the best I've had, if a little heavy on the sauce by LA standards. The Caesar salad was also very good, and be sure to ask for the anchovies. We were too stuffed to order dessert, but I would definitely plan my consumption accordingly next time to make room. Maybe it's just me, but I always like to see a family-run Italian restaurant where the serving staff banter in their native language. It doesn't make the food better, but it adds to the ambiance. Extra half a star.

I couldn't tell if I had set foot in an Olive Garden, a sports bar or a dance club. The kitschy, dim-lit, plastic hanging grape lights, the widescreen, wall-mounted TVs, and the jarring Katy Perry turned what was presumably designed to be ambient into something less than classy. The food was good, but overpriced, even by North End standards. Don't expect fresh pepper or Parmesan either.

Came to Boston for a little getaway with the family. We were staying at the Marriott Long Wharf and wanted to go into the NorthEnd for some Italian. We had the kids with us - 8yrs and 12yrs and it was getting on the later side, so we knew we had to eat soon. We had just been in Little Italy over the summer and I was expecting the same disappointment. "Tourist trap" . However, that's not what we found. We found a great place to walk around and all of the restaurants look great and not cheesy. Also, thanks to Yelp, I avoided some places that were actually packed with people..but the reviews of those places had words like "disappointing". We were running out of time and happened on Florentine's. It has open windows to the street, a lively bar and the aromas' coming out the door just pulled you in. Luckily we could sit right down. We had great waiter who knew to get mommy and daddy something from the bar right away. The bartender makes a great dirty martini and gin & tonic. Hubby even had to ask for more tonic because the bartender has a heavy hand..that's does not usually happen. The waiter was very attentive to the kids, he could see they were hungry and brought their meals out right away. They don't have a kids menu and he got a "special" spaghetti and meatballs for my son. They charged about $6 which is a lot better than some places that will charge you a full entree price. I had the Lobster Ravioli which was plentiful and very good. Daughter had shrimp and pasta which she was very happy with. I can't remember what the hubby had - but he didn't complain so it must have been good. Definitely a place to go to when you are in Boston. I would go back to this one without even regretting not trying some place else.

First things first.... I didn't really want to come here, so my expectations were already a little watered down. My boyfriend and I were visiting Boston and intended to go to Neptune Oyster, but it was packed to the brim and we were starving. So we walked over to Giacomo's, which was also packed. Florentine Cafe was close to Giacomo's, so we just decided on going there. The menu looked decent but not overpriced, the place looked intimate and the ambiance was romantic enough. I wasn't terribly in the mood for Italian, but we were in the North End, so. I was in the mood for seafood, so I ordered spaghettoni with mussels, scallops, and half a lobster tail with a garlic wine/tomato sauce. My boyfriend ordered ravioli with pumpkin and butternut squash. When the dishes arrived, his looked a little small for his liking and mine looked enormous, with nice presentation. His ravioli was delicious. Sweet and savory, fresh and unique with sort of a sweet cream sauce over the top. He was only slightly disappointed that there were only about 10 pieces in there, but still satisfied. As for mine, the pasta seemed to be cooked very nicely - firm, but not undercooked. The rest of the dish wasn't as tasty as I wanted, and not plentiful with seafood as I had hoped. The mussels were a little small and the scallops/lobster was few, the sauce wasn't really unique. Our service was a little spotty, and our waitress barely came back after we received our meal. I also noticed a different waiter telling another table about specials, while ours didn't let us know there were any. Even though the ravioli was really impressive, I probably won't go back because nothing else seemed terribly unique or authentic. But decent is all I can say. I'd probably give this 2 1/2 stars if I could, and even less if I hadn't been impressed with the ravioli. Otherwise, my watered down expectations were met.

Best martini in the north end! Any drink, for that matter. My husband and I are tourists, but we are also regulars. This stop is an absolute must whenever we're in town for a game (4-5x a year) and we've been coming for over 10 years. I've given a five star rating because, in addition to great service and a top-notch martini from this bartender, you also get location, atmosphere, service and a view! Come on, what are you waiting for?

The charm of this establishment is in its history. It has been a presence on Hanover Street for decades. It is lovely inside, and the Sinatra music is a nice touch. The food - not so great. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. Not a lot of flavor. I would have at least expected some garlic, oregano, even basil! Oh well. I would recommend popping in for a drink at the bar. It is a such a lovely style - old school Italian, if you will.

We just went here for cocktails, but we had a great time! Docked one star for having, I think, a boring selection of cocktails on the menu (also-- almost everything had vodka! I hate vodka) but we chatted with the bartender and he asked us some questions about what we like, and described a bizarre cocktail involving tequila and melon liquor that he used to make at a club he once worked at. He made it for my boyfriend-- and it was really awesome! I'm less adventuresome so I ordered a margarita, and it was totally delicious. Fun atmosphere, nice friendly staff.

Prime example of a legit Italian restaurant in the North End. Classy and relaxing ambience with amazing food and great service. Our server's name was Endrit and he was friendly and quick. It was great to sit by the window and experience the liveliness of this wonderful neighborhood. My parents and I got the duck special, lobster ravioli and shrimp pasta.. all of which were delicious and cooked perfectly. I'll definitely be back!

I've only been here for breakfast and its been a great experience each time. You cant go wrong ordering anything off their breakfast menu. We went on a Sunday at 9am and thats when the cashier had just put on the menu. I had the eggs benedict and my friend had pancakes. Both were yummie!!! They used to have chocolate filled croissants. Not anymore. =( The place wasnt too crowded when we arrived which was nice. You basically order and pay for the food at the register, grab a number and then someone delivers the food to you. Doesnt get any easier than that. We went during the Boston half marathon so it was nice watching the runners while enjoying breakfast. Watching the runners made me feel guilty, but then I ate some more and the guilt went away.

I came here a few years ago and I do not remember it nor do I remember what I ate, even after checking out the menu again. Not a good sign! I do remember having to wait a long time even though tables were open, the food being just ok, and the service being just ok. I also remember it being not worth the price. I would essentially call it a tourist trap on the famed Hanover Street. There are much better places in the North End that I would check out and try before this one. The best ones are usually the tiny places with only a few tables and ones where you can hear the staff speaking in Italian before you even enter the front door. The small family run places are the best and are usually found on the side streets away from the hustle and bustle of Hanover. Although I do have to say, there are a few on Hanover that are absolutely delicious. Florentine is not one of these. Check out my other yelp reviews for places you should go to!

The Malale al Porto was not only finely cooked and garnished, but was a satisfying portion. The apple flavor was overwhelming and memorable. I would love to come here again to celebrate an important occasion.

Actually, I've experienced, MUCH better. I wanted to take my friends to Giacamo's, but there was an hour and half worth of wait and we had a full night's worth of activities planned which we could not wait for. So we walked around a bit and this was the place that could immediately seat us - 4 people on a saturday night and immediately seated? We jumped at it! The place is beautiful. Huge paintings line the wall, there are open windows to let in the summer breeze and even though there are so many people in the north end at that time, that add's to the ambiance slightly and in my opinion, makes it that much more memorable. Anyway, we ordered a few appetizers and our main dishes. The appetizers included, eggplant Sorrentino, caprese, and calamari. The calamari was probably the most bland I've ever had. I never leave calamari because it really is one of my favorite dishes, but i just could not even try and like this one. The Eggplant florentine was slightly better, but not by miles, which it just needed to be. Caprese was probably the best of all appetizers and I did like the little bit that I tried of that. My friend's ordered lobster ravioli and a butternut ravioli dish. Both were good - in fact the butternut ravioli was pretty good. But I've had the best of the best at giacamo's and when that happen's it just doesn't live up to it. Overall, it was a meh experience. I definitely have experienced better and for some reason if I do find myself here again, I will make sure I steer clear of the calamari because that just really ruined it for me.

Love, Love, LOVE this place! Food: A+ Wine/Drink options: A+ Ambience: A++ (extra + because we recently discovered the downstairs which has pretty white lights twinkling on the ceiling like stars!) Location: A+ Date Place: YES! I have never had a bad meal here. Lobster ravioli's are tasty, but the fan favorite is the filet mignon with balsamic (expensive but worth it if you want to treat yourself). The one and only downside is that it is expensive. We only go on occasional dates or birthday celebrations. But I always walk away with a fond memory of the evening and a feeling of money well spent.

The walk in wait was about 30 mins. We were kept clearly appraised. The restaurant was small but filled with happy people. The Calamari was fine. The rack of lamb was perfectly cooked and tasted as excellent as any I've had. Much, much better than the recent reviews I saw. I was seated when I first took a look at the reviews. ( I came with friends. ) I expected awful food. And was very pleasantly surprised by the cheerful person who seated us, a smiling attentive server and good food.

Really enjoyed the food. I eat in the North end often, and this is definitely a go to place for me. I am always assured that the food will be top notch. I had the mussels and clams with pasta and it was excellent.

We made last minute reservations for 7 people and the staff fully accommodated us. The hostess was happy to seat the three members that arrived before the entire party was present. Our table was downstairs which was a nice change from the crowded and audial ruckus on the first floor. The waitress was pleasant and informative. Appetizers were brought out timely. Salads were fresh and properly dressed. The bread baskets (nice warm bread) were replenished as were the water glasses. The table ordered a variety of entrees: ravioli, lasagna, bolognese sauce... There were a few cleaned plates so I'm guessing people enjoyed their meals. They served an appropriate amount of ravioli for an entree. The lasagna was a sizable plate. It held good form and was cooked nicely, soft noodles in the middle and just a smidge of toastyness on the corner. We did not feel rushed or as if we were a burden like some of the other restaurants in the area make their customers feel. I would not call this place a "fine dining" experience. It is good and tasty; Italian American food done right. Prices are pretty reasonable considering the area. This isn't Olive Garden and people should know that dining in the North End is going to cost a little extra green. There are some nice window seats available during the summer (but be warned you will have front row viewing of tourist antics.) Parking can be quite a defeating experience. Take the T or find a real Boston driver that can make magic happen with a space that is big enough to park a tricycle. We had a pleasant experience and would consider this to be a good old standby.

I'm reading the other reviews and wondering if I went to the same restaurant as some of these people. My experience at The Florentine was horrible. Rude, pushy waiter, crappy, low end entree at HIGH END price( picture chicken parm. from Papa Gino's w/ Star market brand ziti, but costing $20+). The place was dirty and crowded. YUCK YUCK YUCK! The only good thing I have to say about this place is, the Calamari was ok. Never again. There are so many other tiny, relatively unknown restaurants in the North End that are fabulous. I can't believe I dropped $100 (for 2) at this establishment. I know good Italian food & this wasn't it. How disappointing.

Came here the night before Thanksgiving, who wants to cook before Thanksgiving right? The atmosphere was nice- tv's with sports and quiet enough for those who wanted to talk. My appetizer came out fast and was very good. For my entree, I ordered a pasta dish that had shrimp, clams and lobster in it. The pasta was home made and delish! The sauce was supposed to be "spicy", but I thought it was a little bland. Also, the lobster piece was tiny and hard to eat. Overall, I did enjoy my meal and would go back again. Our waiter was great, service was great!

Supposedly and upscale place, but in fact packed with locals that were wanna-be mobsters. If I want to hear "Joey Bag-o-Donuts" accents, I can stay home and watch Soprano's re-runs. Service was poor. Food was mediocre at best. Parking? Not even valet service. What a joke for an "upscale" place. There's just too many great places on Hanover Street such as Lucca and Bricco, In the summer, maybe it's better with the open air, but then again, Lucca offers the same.

A very nice surprise. My group got into a cab with the plan of going to the North End and randomly picking a restaurant, testing our shared experience of never having had a bad meal in the North End. Good food, reasonably priced, large portions. The wait to be seated was very short - unusually so for a Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. - but it would have been worth it to wait a lot longer. The waiter was fantastic. When I let him know that I had a shellfish allergy, he went all out to make sure I didn't get any incidental exposure, even though the other two people in my party ordered shellfish. I had the tagliatelle, and it was very good. I'd recommend this place without hesitation.

Was visiting Boston and wanted to check out some Italian food at the North End. I ended up at this place after the place i originally wanted to go to was closed. (It was raining outside so we just ran in to the next open place.) The food was good but I am sure there are much better places for authentic Italian in the area. We all ordered different stuff and it was really 50/50 on what looked good and what didn't. The calzone looked really good and my boyfriend said it was amazing. The pizza looked like something I got in high school and tasted about the same. I got the caprese panini and it was good, but it was not a panini. It was not even grilled. So if you are looking for Italian food that will blow your mind then yea you should probably go elsewhere.

OMG. This is our favorite restaurant in the north end. Took the family recently over thanksgiving weekend and it was delicious! Two must have dishes are the ravioli --- "a porcini" (wild mushroom) and the "di zucca" (butternut squash). For starters the pear with prosciutto is amazing especially if you like goat cheese. Their version of Chicken Parmesan one of our favorites too! We've never had a bad meal and we've been at least a dozen times. Whether you want comfort food on a cold night or cafe style open doors during the summer - this place never disappoints. Take your girlfriend, family, or client! Can be busy on weekend nights, but it's worth the wait!

Trying to decide on an Italian restaurant in the north end is crazy- too many great choices. We decided on The Florentine Cafe and was pleased. The service was great and the honey roasted pears with goat cheese and prosciutto was SO GOOD! We didn't have dessert there because Mike's is across the street and we knew we had to make a stop there. We both had the Veal Parm which was good as well but the pears have me searching for recipe to make myself!

In a city full of excellent Italian restaurants, this is definitely a place you can skip over. Food was mediocre and extremely overpriced for what I got. Service was not good and they pressure you into buying alcohol. They also thought they were doing us a huge favor when we asked for a table for 6.

When my friend was in town decided we had to have lunch in the North End since we love Italian food and since she is Italian. We walked by The Florentine Cafe and decided it looked nice so after taking a quick look at the menu we decided to stay. They sat us in one of the windows that opened out and had a view of the garden across the street. We felt like we were in Italy. We figured if we split a caprese salad with prosciutto and eggplant Sorrentino, we might have been able to save room for dessert. They served some yummy bread with dipping oil first which we totally finished. And the salad was so good!! It had red and yellow tomatoes together with fresh mozzarella and prosciutto. Everything was really fresh and had amazing flavor! The eggplant Sorrentino was another delicious dish! It was their version of Eggplant Parmesan. There was plenty of cheese, the sauce was great and the eggplant was perfectly cooked. We both decided it was our favorite eggplant parm ever!! Even though we tried to save room we were too full for dessert. But I'm guessing they were probably delicious like everything else. Our waiter was really nice and even took a few pictures for us. Next time I am in the North End, I will definitely stop in!

This place is straight out of the scenes from The Godfather. There is an elderly Italian grandfather sitting at the bar complete with a suit and dark glasses. A young lad in his teens who works at the place walks by, nods his head, picks Grandpa's hand and places a gentle peck on it. Grandpa nods. Boy goes away. Bartender casts a sideways look at the boy as he walks away. Grandpa looks at bartender. Bartender looks at Grandpa. A smirk appears on both their faces. As far as the food is concerned, I don't know, because at this point I was shit scared. All I remember was the wine was good and helped tone the excess salt in the calamari.

Average. That's the best way to describe this place. I didn't experience anything fantastic, but it wasn't horrible.... My date and myself (it was a 1st date) were wandering around, looking for a lunch spot in the N. End and stumbled upon this spot while meandering. We both liked the open windows and the chance to people watch as we enjoyed our meal. A+ for ambiance, even if it was filled with tourists in "Boston" Tshirts. That's the price you pay for dining in the N. End.... Our waitress was nice and attentive and our water glasses were always filled. The bread basket was delish. I was confused by the country music that was playing. But my entree...this is where the Florentine Cafe lost me. I had ordered a caprese panini. Now, the last time I checked, a panini was a grilled, warm sandwich. What I got were a few sliced tomatoes (yellow and red) with fresh mozerella on a hard, crusty, cold FRENCH baguette. Not even a hint of a grill mark. This is the kind of bread that shreds the roof of your mouth. I ended up picking out the tomatos and cheese and just eating that. I don't think that I'll be seeing the guy or the Florentine Cafe again. I was too disappointed.

The food was ok. When I say ok it means I could make something just as good but not better. The service was good, not too annoying but I didn't have to set booby traps to get another glass of wine. No smile or personality was shown by the waiter, which I guess really doesn't matter because I am not looking for a relationship just a good meal. Funny thing about this place is it is totally sketchy and I was offered a job while still drunk one morning in a pastry place across the street. I was bored and had some free time so I went to talk to the guy, maybe he was just looking for a date, and maybe I clearly wasn't interested which is why I never went back.

This is my favorite restaurant in the North End. We have never had a bad meal there. The Lobster Ravioli is amazing. Hubby usually gets the bacon-wrapped filet with shallots and mushrooms and he lets me have the risotto...I wish they would do a risotto appetizer or entree. The last time we were there I had the Fiocchi di Pasta ai Formaggi, and I have never been so disappointed when there was no more food left on my plate.

Let's see...a sunny late-summer afternoon in the North End, doors/windows wide open, the bartender knows to add fruit to a double Campari and Orange Juice. A good start that got better. My party requested a window table for four, and waited for it by crowding our way toward the impressive bar. I hadn't read any reviews before we got here, but as a fan, I'd venture to say those folks giving bad reviews must have just been having a bad day---that's sort of experience can happen when you create your own luck, good and bad. After a reasonable wait, the table was made ready and the service was actually fairly good--water glasses never empty, food prepared well, plenty of bread to mop up the left-over sauces. Again, maybe those other folks were just pressing their tough luck...or else those reviews tipped off Florentine staff to turn it up a notch? On to the food--my stuffed veal on linquini was on the larger side for a luncheon portion and satisfying. Others had eggplant ravioli, scampi, and a caramelized onion/Parmesan pizzetti. The people watching was above average too. As one of NE oldest catholic churches was wedding central during our meal. Lots of Project Runway commentary on what people assume is acceptable to wear to a Summer afternoon wedding.

Very good food without a lot of hassle. I was eating solo, which turns out to be a real pain in the Keister in the North End. If you've been, you know...30 seats is probably typical for many of the restaurants...so getting a table for 1 is pretty much out of the question, and if they do have a bar it's often just 4 or 5 seats. The Florentine had a bar for 20 or so -- I could actually have a seat....it was very busy, but I didn't have to wait. It looked like the wait for a normal party of 4 would have been only a few minutes...unlike some places where the waiting lines were just silly. [Giacomo's? You must be kidding....groupthink at it's worst.....] I had a grilled seafood salad -- excellent. Scallops, a (very) small lobster tail --- lagostino?, calamari and a couple of shrimp all flame-grilled nicely. Nothing over-done....mixed greens with a good vinaigrette for the base. For desert an excellent tiramisu, very light but not dry. Not too expensive, either....overall very good!

I went with my husband and mother on the Friday of the Feast of St Anthony. The place was crowded, but we did not have to wait since we didn't mind not getting a window seat. I ordered the vegetable lasagna, my mother got the spinach ravioli and my husband ordered the chicken parm. My meal was the best, but my mom's was a close second. The chicken parm was good - not great - as in, I probably wouldn't order it myself. The location and ambiance are perfect for the whole North End-Italian experience.

Since when are paninis served puffy? I ordered the Caprese panini with proscuitto and it was served un-pressed. Just maybe I've been ill-informed all this time and believed that the real paninis are supposed to be pressed. But, for the sake of my appetite, I was not too happy when I saw the puffy Italian bread that held the mozzarella (which was not that fresh), basil, tomato, and proscuitto. Merely OK food at best. Service is spotty. I suppose the only thing we did actually enjoy was the people watching from the window seats which is what had reeled us into the place. bah

This is the first Italian restaurant were I never order pasta because I simply can't get past the filetto. Please, please, please try the Filet Mignon with Alfreto risotto and asparagus. It melts in your mouth and words just don' t do it justice. Request a window seat in the summer to people watch and enjoy a lovely summer day.

The best thing about Florentine is way it's designed - on a nice day, it's the perfect place to eat if you can sit by the open windows and look out on to Hanover St. That's pretty much the only reason I came here! The food is decent, but nothing to write home about compared some of the other restaurants in the 'hood. The staff is pretty friendly. Overall, I'd recommend this place to a tourist who wants to get a "North End" feel while eating lunch.

given the crowds i saw wondering around hanover street in North End, i think The Florentine Cafe is possibly one of those little gems often overlooked for other well-known restaurants. the reason i say that is b/c i was one of them but refused to wait in the 2 hour lines... and i'm glad i didn't wait. otherwise, i may have not stopped at The Florentine Cafe. service was a little slow initially but once we placed our order, all was good. we started with the portabello mushroom appetizer which was outstanding. we had mozzarella cheese added to it was very fresh and only added to the wonderful flavor. for my entree, i had the Veal Toscanini which was delicious but the real delight of this meal were the scalloped potatoes. so i highly recommend skipping the restaurants with the 400+ reviews and long lines and try the Florentine Cafe.

Meh... I've experience better in the north end. My pan seared sea bass was almost deep fried and chewy. If I wanted something like that, i could have walked into a local sub shop and bought Fish n fries. The rice that came with it was ok... i could taste cooking oil (and no, it wasn't olive oil). Other people at my table said they found their food ok.

I have been to this place about 5 times and every single time it's been great. The food is always the best (def need to get the Tortelloni Porcini), service great, ambiance very good. The price is just right for what you get - I dine with very picky people but none of them complained about their meals and loved everything. Screw the lines at Giacomo's - go here!

I've visited Boston often but this time seemed a little different. I had my aunt, my cousin, and my fiance. All of us were starving so instead of going to Faneuil hall, we figured it made more sense for both our funds and appetite's to walk over to the North End. We ran into the Florentine cafe to find it busy, but we lucked out and were able to be seated at a table within 5 minutes. This place seemed to be a favorite and definitely looked like the regulars were there for a quick bite to eat. For appetizers they had calamari and my fiance loved them. I had a salad which was very good. For our main dishes we ordered Lobster ravioli, Pollo con Ziti, and my fiance had a Shrimp pasta (can't remember the name of it). His pasta was basically the same meal I had but instead of having chicken he had shrimp. One thing I loved about this place was that all of their ingredients were made fresh. The pasta was delicious. One thing I was unsure of was that I had a bit of water in my bowl but, I decided I would let it slide. I was told the prices at lunch were much more reasonable than dinner, so I'm glad we chose lunch instead. Our waitress was an absolute pleasure to be around. She was attentive albeit very busy. It also helps that the other waiters were looking out for each other as our glasses were getting somewhat low on water and they stepped in to help her out. Excellent service I might say. Upon exiting we met the owners brother to find out that this family owns four other restaurants so I might have to try the others out. Everyone in my party agrees that the cafe is worthwhile mentioning and recommending to others.

I have never eaten here, so my review is only for the bar. Very open space, nice to visit in the summer when the windows are open. Great view of Hanover, bar staff is friendly and will let you sample their extensive wine list. They also have an extensive cocktail menu, a nice change from most of the places in the North End that only serve beer and wine. Awesome spot for after works drinks and the apps/food looked delicious.

Shrimp and scallops appetizer and lobster ravioli entree were fantastic. Napa Chardonnay was great, as were bartenders. Deep disappointment was the hostess, olivia, blonde hair. Watched her cross multiple people off the waitlist for no reason, seat het friends with no reservations first, and lie about it. We were told 45 min wait, and that if we left we'd be crossed off the list. So we sat at bar for an hour. I checked on status then, and she YELLED at my girlfriend for taking off her sweater because "how else am I supposed to find you?" Upsetting, to say the very least.

This place is horrible. The food is consistently mediocre and the service sucks. Our waitress spilled an entire glass of wine on my dress and didn't apologize or comp us anything, just gave me a wad of napkins to wipe off with. Proscuitto wrapped figs were mushy and gross. Price tag was outrageous for the food and service quality. I'll never go back.

When I first came to Boston to find an apartment my mother and I stumbled in and enjoyed a glass of wine but didn't try the food. When I moved in to my apartment this weekend we actually went to eat there during the world cup game, not only was the service excellent but the food was delicious. I had the pomodoro salad and the chicken parmesan sandwich, I love yellow tomatoes and they aren't something you can find everywhere, especially not that fresh. Furthermore the butternut squash ravioli my mom had was beyond amazing, such a different and unique taste. Also the bar-tending staff there is great, I never had to wait more then a few minutes to get a new drink and with all the world cup fans and the feast patrons that really says something. Try it. Now.

The food was delicious. We split a calzone and a salad. It was filling, fresh, and yummy and. Hit the spot for a late afternoon lunch. Our waitress was very sweet and accommodating. However, the hostess was incredibly rude. She was twirling her hair and texting while telling us we would have to wait 30 minutes for a table when there were many tables getting ready to leave. She spoke to use in a rude tone and demanded that we were "certain" we were staying before she wrote our name down. It is unfortunate that such a lovely and nice restaurant had such a rude and nasty hostess.

this place looks great from the outside and is beautiful on the inside as well....EXCEPT the service is bad. The hostess especially is RUDE ( playing on her iPhone the entire time instead of paying attention to the customers)! the waitress was decent but by no means was the service out of this world. I expected way more for a place like this in the North End of Boston. Food was good but bialy that's it.....!!!

lets just say there's a lot of competition in this neighborhood for italian food. step it up a bit florentine. no complaints worth mentioning, im easy to please but not easily wow'ed. this was very typical fare. hey, if im already there , meeting friends or whatever, and i'm hungry, ill order. its good portions , well priced. would not think of it as a destination for a planned dinner. i actually like it for after dinner ( elsewhere) drinks. had lunch there also, and i have to say for lunch i actually think it was better than some other local lunch menus ive had. just not quite there for dinner though. service was really warm and friendly. i would give it the four stars for that.

Indeed, I am a fan... Our waiter was knowledge and attentive, the ambiance good, a little noisy and crowded but that's what's available in the North End...the food it was really good. I always feel guilty going out to Italian restaurants and getting pasta. It seems so simple to make at home...until you have a good meal at a nice place. Dinner was good, the wine was great and the best was the Cesar salad. Seriously, when was the last time you freaked over the salad in a meal? I would go back just for that salad.

I was not too impressed with this place. I was hoping for some authentic italian food in little italy and I was a bit disappointed. My wife's pasta wasn't bad, and they definitely were generous with the garlic (which i like) but it wasn't great. My caprese panini looked like it was taken off a supermarket shelf. One small piece of mozzarella, one red tomato, one yellow tomato, and a little pesto. The bread was bland, boring, and not toasted. The salad it came with was good, though. Most aggravating was that the service was HORRIBLE. The server seemed to genuinely not care that we didn't have water refills, nor that my bottled beer (no draught!) sat on the bar while i looked at it longingly for forever after walking in the hot Boston sun. It was nearly dead there too, by the way. I have not tried other places in the North End yet, so this gives me a starting point.

I have had some pretty blah meals on Hanover... BUT ... this one totally took me by surprise!!! My boyfriend and I were looking for a place for dinner without reservations and with a full bar. We walked in and were so surprised! For cocktails we ordered the Lemon Drops which were made with amazing Limoncello. They were the best that I have ever had. We were served bread and olive oil and like the other reviewers, I agree -- the bread is kind of mass produced but I don't eat that much of it so I didn't really figure it in the rating. For an app we ordered the prosciutto with pear and goats cheese. Amazing prosciutto --- flavorful and meaty, the pear was served warm so the goats cheese melted on top. YUM! I had the porcini tortellini which was HEAVEN on a plate! I was practically licking my bowl. My bf had the lobster risotto -- also clean plate. This restaurant changed my perspective on Hanover street completely! It is worth a try!

To be honest, my gf and I had a hard time differentiating between the Italian restaurants in the North End. In the end, we went with Florentine Cafe because it seemed to have the most people inside. Unscientific to say the least but that many people can't be wrong, right? Our meal was good, though i think I prefer the places in Chicago's Little Italy moreso. My gf ordered the Linguine con Vongole Pomodoro, which had a good proportion of clams to linguine. It tasted alright -- pretty much what you would expect. I ordered the Duck Parpadelle, which was tasty and very filling with its ample pieces of duck. We both had plenty of food left over for the next day. Service is efficient and our server reminded me of Giada de Laurentis (this is a good thing). Prices are a little high but still very reasonable. I wasn't impressed with the meal but I didn't regret going to Florentine Cafe either.

The following is a true story: My fabulous college roommate came for a Beantown visit in July. She of course was enchanted by the North End (who wouldn't be?) and insisted that we eat as many meals as possible at the amazing Italian restaurants surrounding the apartment. We were eating lunch at Florentine, seated at the open windows facing Hanover Street. All of a sudden, a crowd starts to gather across the street in front of the church. At first we didn't pay much attention to it. This is the North End after all, there could be any number of tourist groups coming for a taste of history. But the crowd kept getting bigger, spilling into the streets. My roommate and I stopped eating our delicious lunches and she whipped out her camera to document. All of a sudden, the church doors opened up, and a group of people carried a statue out of the church and walked down the street with it. The crowd followed. Yes, there was a parade that just appeared while we ate. It seemed fitting, given our wonderful food, which did indeed deserve a parade. Ok, you probably want to know about the food we ate. We started off with this amazing eggplant appetizer, which was simply a mountain of eggplant, cheese, and sauce. Basically an Eggplant Parm without the pasta. It was a great way to sample the dish. We both got the lobster ravioli as our entree, and needless to say, we used the bread to soak up all of the sauce. It was too delicious to let it go to waste.

We had really excellent service during our meal. The cheese ravioli is homemade and delicious, the chicken stuffed with spinach and cheese is DRY and tasteless. I give this place two stars because my mom and I were waiting for our table in the bar area, and the bartender was EXTREMELY rude. Not just negligent, but a complete ass to my poor 65 year old mother. His name is Joe, he is a short dark-haired douche. We didn't give him any tip. UPDATE: A note from the bartender at Florentine: Hi "I thank you for the constructive cretinism I am very sorry if that was when i was working. I would be more then glad to make it up to you if i could please thaks Joseph (last name removed) I would really appreciate if you could revise or delete this Thanks" -Yes Joe, I could sense your sincerity from the instant you called me a cretin. Good work.

The Florentine Cafe was a great pick to enjoy lunch on a beautiful day in Boston's North End. With a great corner sidewalk cafe location, the large open windows in the front gave the small, intimate bar/restaurant a cozy, breezy feel. The fusilli al salsiccia had a delicious sauce, and the gnocchi was soft and flavorful. We also loved the ambiance of the exposed brick indoor dining area.

My friend and I were in the North End before meeting up with some people for a comedy show later that evening two weeks ago and we decided to stop for dinner and drinks here. I STILL can't believe what happened. Our story starts when we walk up to the restaurant, we go in and are promptly greeted by the hostess who shows us to our table and and hands us our menus. The water boy is right there and pours us our water, while chatting and looking over the menu our water boy is overly attentive, probably owning to the fact that we are one of the three tables occupied at the time, but it was actually funny. So we have our orders all picked out and we realize we haven't even had our drink orders taken yet. I try to ask the water boy and he just looks at me and wanders away to fill more glasses. So we decided to wait a bit longer. After waiting around 30 mins, maybe more and not been given bread our drink order taken or anything we get up and leave, as we walk out past the waiter and the hostess who sat us, she looks at us and say "Have a wonderful evening". I'm sure their food would have been good, but with service like that I'm not willing to give it a second chance.

This review is a bit late but my girlfriend and I came here for Valentine's day dinner and the place was MAGICAL. Legitimate magic occurred here. She had the lobster ravioli and I had the spinach ravioli. We both licked our plates clean the sauces were so amazing. Ample portion size for the money too. For the North End, the prices will always be a little on the high end since it is a tourist area, but The Fiorentine Cafe has always been worth the money for me. I also recommend the Arugula salad, it contains the biggest fresh berries with warm goat cheese and a zingy vinaigrette which compliments it all immensely. The atmosphere also makes the experience well worth it. Space is never in excess around the North End but Cafe Fiorentine makes the experience intimate without feeling like you're eating off your neighbors plate. In the summer they open up the large wall of windows so you truly feel as if your vacationing in Europe, (until, of course, a Guido down the street walks by yelling "Go Bruins"). I took the time to write this review because I feel so strongly about the quality of this restaurant. Don't expect the waiters to cater to you like its the Ritz also people! It's a typical European style dining where the waiters are attentive but leave you be to enjoy your meal. Well worth it!

I've been here 3 times, but am only reviewing this last time. Came here with my parents for lunch. Requested seating next to window & was sat within 15 min & the service was HORRIBLE. I asked for a sangria and was responded with "uhh yeah i don't think we have that" so I ordered a glass of wine. 10 min later the table next to us has two sangrias. I question her and am told "its my first week, but yeah i guess that is sangria" did she take my glass of wine that I had one sip of off the bill??? Nope. They have a ravioli dish on their dinner menu that they don't have on their lunch menu & my boyfriend had asked if he could perhaps get that. she responds with "Its my first week", yup you said that when you had no idea that your work serves Sangria. The food was def. four starts, nice portions & great sauces, but the service left a bad taste in my mouth. Next time I'll go for dinner maybe thats when the good servers & bartends come out

We had some friends up from Florida visiting and I wanted to treat them to some authentic Italian cuisine. So I figured it doesn't get any better than the North End. So after a day of sightseeing in Boston this is where my wife and I decided to take them. There's nothing like going up to the North End for dinner. I just love coming up here every chance we get. We walk in and the ambience has that warm and classy feel to it. I will say that it is a little on the small side, so if you plan on eating here with a large party, call ahead to see if they can accommodate you. They have a full bar and some flat screen TV's as well. I ordered the lobster ravioli and I have to say it's some of the best I have ever had..absolutely delicious! Our Floridian friends were very happy with the quality of the food and service. Our server was very friendly and right on top of keeping our glasses full. We didn't stay for dessert only because I wanted to take them to Mike's Bakery from some cannoli's. But I have to tell you, our dining experience her was top notch. The hostess was nice, wait staff very friendly and quality of food was excellent. My wife and I will be coming back here first chance we get. If you're in the North End and trying to decide where to eat, I highly recommend giving this establishment a try.

I have been to Florentine Cafe three times: once for food and twice for drinks. When I ate there, service was acceptable, as was the food, but neither surpassed that mark. It was my first time sitting at the bar, however, that truly put me off to this establishment. The clientele in the evening is unfortunate, to say the least, and on this particular venture the two bartenders (male and female) were clearly biding their time until they could sneak away to have sex on a break. Now, this could add to the charm of a bar in a different place...cancun during spring break, for instance, but not in the N. End. One could have good luck on some days, but go at your own risk.

O.M.G. Lobster Ravioli and a glass of red wine. Is there a better dinner in this world? I was on a work trip and I ate alone, but I didn't care because I was right by the big open windows, with a great view of the main street. It was a great dinner! I was very happy sitting here alone eating my fantastic food. The service was great and the Lobster Ravioli had huge chunks of Lobster. Perfecto!

I got the Chicken with Asparagus and Bourbon sauce mixed with Bacon, Muchrooms and something else and it was damn good! Walked in with a party of 5 at 9pm on a Saturday night and were seated immediately but it was downstairs. Upstairs was popping with open glass to let in the nice weather. Downstairs was still very nicely decorated and a great atmosphere. I will definately go back again!

I love this place. We stopped into Florentine Cafe because we were looking for a lunch spot during the Columbus Day weekend, and this place looked like it had the most people. After being seated I looked around and thought that Florentine felt very local. I loved all the wood paneling and the set up of the bar. It's quite a large place for a restaurant in the North End, and they have a separate room that will accommodate up to 55 people. As for the food, the lobster ravioli was the best that I have ever had. I also loved their sausage sandwich and the greens on the side tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I pretty much loved everything about this place including the free bread that they give you before the meal which was baked with plenty of herbs on top.

I frequent the North End about 3 times a month. The last lets say 12 times, I have ventured to Florentine. No matter what I order it never lets me down. The Beef Carpaccio is always magnificent drizzled with a balsamic glaze, which also was over a delicious bed of lettuce and parmesan cheese. Every appetizer is delicious especially the clams in a white wine sauce. The sauce is incredibly amazing and creamy. and the clams are perfect. The dinners are just as good. The lobster Ravioli is delicious and a great portion for your money. I don't think I've ever finished. It has large lobster meat wedged into perfectly cooked circular ravioli in a semi thick cream sauce. I also can not say enough about each seafood dish. I have had all 3, the cioppino, the chilean sea bass, and the swordfish. Each one is unique, but equally scrumptious in their own way. The balsamic lamb is fantastic and it makes a lovely meal and it is served with large asparagus, which are amazing! Te veal is nice and tender and it is ginormous! It is incredibly fresh and tasty. Lastly my most recent meal was the balsamic filet. It was magnificent served to my liking medium rare. It was perfect. Wrapped in bacon with delicious shitake mushrooms and a lovely cheese risotto. Again with plump asparagus! The taramisu is out of this world! Mike's pastries is right down the street, but the teramisu is great! I love this restaurant it is a definite go to!

when my lil' sis came to visit, i knew i had to treat her to lunch in the north end, but i didn't have a restaurant in mind. after a morning of sightseeing, i dragged her down hanover street in search of the perfect spot. her legs were tired and i felt bad passing by perfectly good restaurants...but after a couple blocks, we saw the florentine cafe and knew it was the one. this restaurant is so pretty and inviting and getting a window seat made it all the better. our food did not disappoint. my linguine was full of clams and flavor. it's one of the best i've ever had and it didn't hurt that it was affordable at about $15 for a plate of pasta. delicious eats in a charming little restaurant...i couldn't have asked for a better date with my little sis.

Thursday night and the bar was pretty full but the dining room was completely open. The waitstaff was attentive but not hovering. We shared an Italian salad which they kindly split in the kitchen. Wonderful balls of fresh mozzarella with grape tomato's and thin slices of red onion on a bed of greens was wonderful despite a little too much salt in the vinaigrette. Ordered the lobster ravioli, couldn't resist. There were ample plump raviolis in a rich cream sauce. Cooked just right. I have to say this place gets the bread right. There is nothing more disappointing then going out for a nice Italian dinner and getting a version of wonder bread served at your table. The bread here is chewy with just the right amount of substance to the crust that it holds up well with the olive oil and herb dip. Excellent service, wonderful meal. Will definitely return.

Went here with my mom after a friend told me she always took her mom there. The lobster ravioli, which had been recommended to me, was good. But my mother's pasta dish with sausage was just ok. Also my wine was not good. Maybe it was my fault for ordering rose, but I've had great rose before and expect good wine when I'm out eating Italian. Also, the decor was a little cheesy to me. Still looking for a great Italian place in Boston I guess.

Have been here twice now, once to eat and once just to have a drink. Both were average experiences. Actually, eating was a 1-star (unexceptional food) and the drinking was a 3-star average experience. Easy to get drinks as the bar isn't too big.

This place was damn good. We went to the north end looking for a different Italian restaurant and when we arrived, the owner said it opened at 5pm so we walked around and stumbled on this place. I had the fettucine carbonara and it was the best I've ever had. This place is pretty darn close to authentic Italian

this review is for bartending and people watching only. this is the first place we had a Vanilla Cake Martini and it was amazing, like drinking angel food cake. but alas, we've been chasing that first VCM for a while now and have pretty much given up. now it's just Peronis and people watching and this is a pretty good place for both, especially when the windows are open.

So the one star is for the adequate food; the blank fours are horrendously rude service we received here. I am a New Yorker who generally takes gruff commentary with a grain of salt; however, my fiancé and I were actually berated by a tattooed waitress because of our tip. She cornered him as he was waiting for the restroom, saying "I can't believe you sit at that table for two hours and only leave a 9% tip". The tip was actually 20% sans alcohol, but perhaps should have been 9 given the rudeness of the establishment's salarié. Generally, the food is ok but watch out for the 5'5" waitress with the arm tattoo. And give her a cannoli in the mouth for me....

I love this place. I love the location, the decor, the drinks! My guy and I go here alot and Gino ( the manager/bartender) is awesome. He makes the best martinis. I have never eaten there but I am anxious to. We usually go there late night. The bar is long and there are lots of seats. It is really intimate and the ambiance is great. Try the vanilla cake martini and tell Gino I say hi!

I grew up in an area called The Hill in South St Louis the Italian district. I am Sicilian and I do know good food, clean restaurants and clean service. We went on Easter Sunday with a party of 8 and was seated in the basement near the bathrooms w/ doors open. They gave us ice tea in short high ball glasses and we kept begging for refills. The pasta was not freshly cooked the order was wrong and the parmesan cheese was in something you would get at a pizza parlor. The waiter seemed rattled and had to continually climb a flight of stairs to get what we needed. I used the restroom after eating it was gross w/ a dirty toilet plunger looking at me. Also took forever to get the check. Very disappointed won't go back! If ever in St Louis try Cunnetto's on The Hill now thats good clean Italian food.

Although I agree with Jonathan G. on The Rules of the Lines... it does not apply to The Florentine Cafe. Yes, it was crowded... however I think the affordable menu prices is what brought people in, not the service and certainly not the food. We sat at the bar. Since it was so busy, we thought we'd get better service there... we thought wrong. First, my friend and I order a bottle of wine... the $37 bottle comes out and it's a half bottle... was this specified on the wine list? No. So instead we order by the glass which the bartender was fine with. We then order a panini sandwich and mussels over linguine. It takes forever to come out. When the food finally arrives, the panini is on a sub roll and not toasted at all. The mussels over linguine were bland and had no spice or flavor. Some guy next to me starts talking to me like I'm 12. "So is school out for the summer?" I responded with, "School's out alright... it's been out for 3 years!" Idiot. Turns out he was the CFO of the restaurant. Since when does a teeny tiny place need a CFO? You're an accountant/bookkeeper buddy... get a life! We eventually did complain about the panini not being toasted and the response was pretty much, "You should have said something sooner." Bottom line: Don't let the line here fool you. With all the choices in the North End, make the right choice... and don't go here!

my friend and i stopped in this sizeable comfortably-lit cafe located on the bustling hanover street in the north end on a sunday night after dinner. there was still a good crowd there at this time of the week. sitting at the bar, they mixed a decent espresso martini and they do a nice pour for wine.

Was told it was a 5 min wait for a table. They seated two parties ahead of us. After waiting 20mins a 2 person table opened up and the hostess was too busy sweeping to seat us. If your a party of two pass but if you're a party of 4 no worries you'll get seat before people waiting 15 mins. Done deal.

Yum. I visited Cafe Florentine on my first real venture into the North End. I was excited to eat some authentic Italian food. Cafe Florentine does not take reservations for parties under 6 but we were able to get a table when we arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night. The bar was PACKED though. This, combined with the fact that the restaurant is pretty small led to my having to pretty much yell so that my friend could hear what I was saying. Our table was directly next to the bar, which didn't help. We had asked to be moved to a table further back but they were not able to accommodate our request.I had the butternut squash ravioli and we split a caesar salad and a bottle of riesling. I really enjoyed everything, except for the service. The waitress was really nice but she was very busy and took a very long time to take our order and didn't really check back to see how things were going. We were in the restaurant for 3 hours and ten minutes... that's a lot of time or a party of two! Its a good thing that we had plenty of time to waste as we were going to a late show. All in all, I would come back but perhaps on a weeknight when it would (hopefully) not be as busy and I could get better service.

My favorite lunch stop when on the Freedom Trail with out-of-town visitors. Everything I've had is good... especially when paired with prosecco. Adore their bread, and the oil and vinegar dressed greens -- I keep meaning to ask which balsamic they use, as it is very deeee-lish! Cute, cozy atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, and a plasma in the corner for sneaking side-glances of the game. The perfect environment for a lingering lunch.

Never got our appetizer. My ravioli in brandy cream sauce was delicious but not hot, and on the skimpy side. Same for my husband's lobster tail - the smallest he has ever had in a fra diablo dish. We both left not very full.

Nice spot in the North End, especially given the numerous choices. I've eaten at a couple of places in this area and have never been disappointed. (though, everything worth eating is $20+, except for some appetizers) Great martini. Great fillet. Great service. Crowded after 8pm, especially on weekends. Try to get a table overlooking the street, great for people watching.

Cute little Italian restaurant in the North End. I went there with two of my girlfriends and we chosee to split a pizza and mozzarella salad. It was delicious. We also had two rounds of mimosas (2 each). When the bill came it was $117.00!!! $16.00 for a half a glass of champagne and a half a glass of orange juice, are you kidding me?! We asked to speak to the manager and he explained that they were using the full bottle of the tiny bottles of champagne, which were $16.00. I am not sure how you can fit one of those into a champagne glass, but reguardless he took half off for the mimosas, making the bill $72.00. Cute place, but beware when you order a drink!

I haven't been here for a few years -- even though I walk by it daily on my way to work! I had gone there for a going away dinner for a friend, and we had a big table downstairs (I think they use this for overflow seating?) It had a very cozy, inviting decor and the waitstaff was great. I don't remember what I ate, only that it was very good! I'd definitely go back. The upstairs bar area is very sleek and a great spot for people-watching.

The food here is outstanding. Salads, pasta dishes and even the bread are wonderful. It was loud when I was there on a Thursday, but when you're getting food like this...who cares. Entrees are 15-25$ and salads in the $10's. It's a small place, very quaint and could be a good date spot.

Great evening! Seated at the open window on Thursday evening, we enjoyed a great meal as the place filled up. My Pollo Piemontese (chicken stuffed with ricotta) was excellent and the Tiramisu and Cannoli were as good as it gets! The Cheese Ravioli dish was served in a "strange sweet oniony" sauce, but was enjoyable. The Portabello antipasti was delectable, and the Arugula salad with goat cheese and blueberries was fantastic. For a blind pick while wandering down Hanover Street, I'd say that we picked a winner!

Great date spot, especially in the warmer months when the windows are open onto the sidewalk. But the atmosphere is great year-round. In the winter its very festive without being corny. And on busy nights you might get seated downstairs in the wine-celler-esque room, which is cozy but a lot quieter. I prefer sitting street level and people watching. I've eaten here more times than I can count and was never disappointed....until....the last time I went which was about a month and a half ago. We ate late, (around 9ish, on a Sat night) so perhaps that was it that, but things started off bad when the bread was stale. My bf's shrimp scampi was overloaded with lemon and my linguine with clams was mediocre at best (the clams weren't well cleaned and i hit many little hard bits). I was very disappointed after my long, successful run with them. So it'll be a while, but in a few months I'll probably give them another try, and eat earlier in the night.

The bartender was good, Olivia on the waitstaff was amazing. BUT of the two times I've went there has been the same man sitting at the bar slurring his words and making crude comments. He was also having choice words with someone on his phone. The bartender didn't bat an eye. Knowing he's always there solidifies me never going back.

I wanted to like this place so much more than I did. The location, the waiters, and the room are all great. But the fact that it had no line when other places around it did should have been a warning. The food was all okay - nothing that special. The veal park was a bit more rubbery than I would have liked and the pasta was a bit more bland.

I went here this past weekend with a large group of friends for a birthday. It's right on Hanover Street so it's very easy to find. Since we had a large group, we were seated downstairs. We had 1 extra person in our party show up as a surprise to the birthday girl, and they were very accomodating in pulling up an extra table so we could fit. Their foccacia bread was cold and had way too much pepper on some pieces. We had many many bottles of wine and they recommended a great italian pinot gris that went with almost all of our meals. As for the meals, I ordered the gnocchi with smoked mozzarella and tomato basil sauce. It was very good, nothing spectacular, but good nonetheless. The portions were a little meager for the price, but no complaints on my end. My husband had the rigatoni with italian sausage and spinach and he was very disappointed. He claims it was very bland and oily, barely any taste at all. He tried dousing it with salt and pepper but it didn't help much. His portion was ridiculously small, and for $20, expected something a little more substantial. One of our friends ordered a seafood pasta dish with scallops, clams, shrimp, etc. and said it tasted like tomato juice over pasta. It was also very bland. Two of our friends ordered the pumpkin ravioli and said it was delicious...so it seems like it was a hit or miss. I would go here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. I could take it or leave it...

Just had lunch here & it was amazing. The portions are still huge, but not quite as rediculous as at dinner. The upstairs is beautiful with windows open on the street for close up people watching. The hostess & waitstaff were right there anytime I was in need and very professional & pleasant. I had fettucini alfredo w/ prosciutto, green peas and romano cheese (yum). My friend had a panini & we were both very satisfied.

Pretty good food, but the service was terrible. Our waitress stopped by our table maybe once every 30 minutes. And then once we ordered it took close to an hour for everyone (except me) to receive their food. My food (the Spinach Ravioli) came another 5-10 minutes after everyone else's. Although it had good flavour, it was barely warm and the smallest pasta portion I have ever received from a restaurant.

$25 lunch for a glass of almost hot prosecco (which I tried to send back but the waitress didn't come back) and a plate of alright pasta soaked in a tomato sauce so watery I actually could capture clear liquid with a spoon. The atmosphere is really nice, but the food is not particularly good.

3 of us stooped here for an early Sunday dinner and figured since we were in Little Italy, the good would be pretty good. Not so. The service was fair, although it seemed like the wait staff we're fast to the tables and even faster back to socialize with each other. Our pasta dishes were CLEARLY MADE FROM BOXED PASTA, THE $1 KIND YOU CAN EASILY BUY AT THE STORE. The sauces were likely house made, albeit quite flavorless. For the price, stay home and buy nice ingredients and make this yourself.

Extremely impolite server (or manager)! We went there on a weekday for dinner at around closing time, but they said it's ok and seated us. There were still a lot of people at the restaurant. The person who served us was a middle-aged Italian man (that's why I'm not sure he was just a server or the manager). He handed us the menus and basically stood there and said "ok, please decide fast" (or something like that). He didn't ask the whole table what they wanted to drink and we had to call him back to order a drink for one of our guests which he never bothered to ask. He seemed like he just wanted to serve us and get us out of there! As soon as we were done, he came and asked "are you done?" and took away the plates and brought the check. We didn't want to start an argument and object to him for his attitude, so we thought the least we can do is not to tip him well. My husband (who normally tips above 25%) wrote him a 10% tip (still didn't want to exclude the tip). You're not gonna believe this.... the guy came back to the table after he took the check, and put it in front of us and said "the tip is not included"!!!! God! It was EXTREMELY embarrassing in front of our guests! He basically made us write a 25% tip for his horrible behavior! I get it that tipping is conventional, but at the end of the day you tip based on your satisfaction with the service. And unless you have a big party (which we didn't) you don't have to write a big tip if you are dissatisfied. Unfortunately, I feel some of the Italian restaurants in the North End are so confident that they are going to get customers because of their location that they don't give a damn to serve high quality food and good service.

We walked by and found the restaurant and it looked warm and inviting. The food was great; we had the veal parmigiana and the pork tenderloin with pancetta. Both had great flavor and the service was a little slow but friendly and fun. Everything was great until we got home and found they had packed our leftovers in a cheap tin foil container that had spilled everywhere. It's too bad when a restaurant cuts corners and it ruins an otherwise stellar experience.

When Panza tells you it's an hour wait and the line at Giacomo's is at a standstill, being able to walk right into the Florentine Cafe on a holiday weekend for dinner and get seated immediately seems like nothing short of a miracle. This is, after all, the North End. The food was great. The bread they serve as a complimentary starter is some of the best I've ever had and the olive oil to dip it in was great. My veggie lasagna was amazing. So tender and scrumptious and heavenly. My friends, respectively, had the risotto with mussels, gnocchi, and lobster ravioli, and all happily wolfed down their entrees. So good. Also, this place is bigger than some of the teeny places in the North End (I'm looking at you, Panza) so it's definitely a nice bonus to have some elbow room while eating. And they take plastic.

There were so many people eating here when we arrived. Food was not that impressive. Bread and garlic paste was not that nice. Calamari was so so. The shrimp and vegetable penne was nicest among all food we ordered. The Pizza was so dry and the way they put topping was not done elaborately. Some other dishes may taste much better. Overall, it's a so so experience from me.

After walking Hanover looking for a place to eat, this place won by default since there didn't seem to be a line outside, and it was raining. The main dining area and bar were nice and cozy, but we were seated downstairs and despite the attempt at decorating (fake grapes hanging from the ceiling), it still felt like a basement. Before your meal, they bring a bread basket with dipping plate. The bread was good but would've been better served warm. The dipping oil was amazing with fresh garlic, crushed red pepper and other spices. We started with fried mozzarella and the pear/prosciutto/goat cheese plate. The mozzarella was good, but the pear dish won us over. The sweet, salty and savory flavors together were just fantastic on the palate. Collectively, we had the bolognese, gnocchi and spinach ravioli. I had a chance to try everything, and the spinach ravioli was my favorite with a touch of sweetness from the honey butternut squash cream sauce. The gnocchi was tender and not chewy like I often find, but the dish itself was kind of boring with just marinara. The bolognese was good, but there was not much meat to be found, and I felt that the sauce tasted too much of wine. I probably would've given five stars but the server was short with us, and not so friendly. He rushed us through ordering, and did not provide much for recommendations. On the plus side, the bartender upstairs gave my insistent friend a glass of bourbon so she could mix it with her own Pellegrino lemonade.

I've never seen an episode of Jersey Shore, but Wonder Twin has & was spewing, in her best joy-zee voice, "Cabs ahh hea!" every time a cab passed by. The host--muscular with tats & great hair--and our waiter--awesome, genuine Italian accent--must have inspired her. The minced garlic & crushed chili flakes in olive oil *kisses fingers* omg, delicious accompaniment to their bread. Wonder Twin's dish of thick ribbons of pasta, half a lobster tail, mussels, shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce looked great. My rigatoni with shrimp scampi was a little boring. There were a few crushed tomatoes in the butter sauce; I wish there were more. Shrimp were large & nicely cooked. Total for 2 bowls of pasta & a glass of Chardonnay: ~$54 Super friendly staff, but with 99 other Italian restaurants in this area, I'm not likely to try them again. Props for being open later than anyone else on Sunday nite. Speaking of cabs...cost of cab ride from Florentine Cafe to Cambridge: $24. "Cabs ahh hea!"

Everyone uses different criteria to rate restaurants. If you rank customer service and attentive staff high on your list, this place is not for you. Takes forever to get the attention of waiter even when it isn't all that busy. When they finally do arrive you feel rushed. Everyone there just seems disinterested. Food is ok but not worth the wait or Hanover St prices.

  • Mike K.

Busy and the waitstaff is disinterested and uninspired although They were prompt in getting us what we needed. My girlfriend joked "tell chef Boyardee the meal was good." Sums this place up perfectly. Food is bland and doesn't have anything you can't get from a frozen dinner.

Stopped by this quaint restaurant to rest our weary feet and grab a drink after spending the day walking the Freedom Trail. Drinks were strong, service was good and the cheapest ketel one and club I've had in Boston! As we were about to leave, Bob, the acting manager asked how everything was. He was genuinely interested in our feedback and spent a good amount of time listening to what we had to say...and he wasn't just nodding his head trying to placate us. 5 stars to that alone!

I feel like I ate at a different restaurant then most of my Yelper's. St Anthony feast, Saturday night, busy everywhere. Got our name on the list came back an hour later, still waited 20 more, but worth the wait for amazing window seat on a beautiful summer night. The parade even came right by!! Justina, the hostess, went out of her way and even offered to go outside to take our photo. How nice was that? Food....I think this was the best lasagna I have ever tasted! Noodles clearly had to be freshly made and the ricotta, so creamy. My honey has the lobster ravioli, very rich tasting and yummy. Lobster meat in the ravioli and chunks on top. Our waitress was attentive, despite how packed it was... We never had to chase her down for drinks etc. Highly recommend!!

Had a late lunch here on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Waitress forgot to bring us our appetizer and a beer for one in our party. Slow for refills on water. Food was okay, but not great. Have had MUCH better meals in North End and expect higher quality and service for North End. Environment not very authentic- they were playing country (modern) music and had large screen TV with sports on. Not what I was hoping for. Would not recommend this restaurant for a great North End experience.

Come here early on a summer night and you won't regret it! The large glass windows open up facing the street and you can feel a subtle, but cool breeze, all while witnessing Hanover St come alive with tourists and summer-happy Bostonians. The pasta dishes are absolutely amazing and up-to-par to North End standards.

    (3)

Horrible service!!!! Food was okay at best!! There are a ton of other options on this street you'd be better off with one of them!

Looks great, pleasant servers, good food OVER-PRICED by double. After the food arrived the TV came on VERY loud with sports. I had the risotto pescatore which was a generous serving. Two dishes, two glasses of wine and one salad... $90 including tip. I would rate this $$$.

To all my fellow Yelpers: this place doesn't really want your business. After a day on the Freedom Trail, we stopped into this quaint looking café to rest our tired dogs and enjoy an adult beverage. We took advantage of a couple open seats at the bar. The bar itself is beautiful - lovely carved wood which offsets the hokey murals on the restaurant walls. But I digress. It was an overcast day with a bit of chill in the air, so a hot coffee drink sounded good. Guess what? The bartender told us they didn't have any coffee. What?? No coffee? In a restaurant? Give me a break. Certainly an Italian restaurant has coffee, espresso, something??? (Maybe I should've ordered coffee with DiSaronno instead of an Irish coffee!). The bartender suggested a coffee martini. Like that's the same! So a glass of wine had to suffice and my husband ordered Jameson's neat, and a couple glasses of water. We got our drinks, but not the water. We couldn't get the bartender's attention - finally another bartender happened by and he got us our waters. There we sat, the drinks disappearing, and neither bartender asked if we wanted another round! Mind you, the place wasn't overly busy. This was around 2:30-3:00ish. There wasn't a line for the restaurant, there might've been an empty stool at the bar, and from what we observed, the bartenders weren't rushing around filling drink orders from the waitstaff or those at the bar. We finally did get one's attention...so we could pay our tab. This inattentive and non-personality service wouldn't inspire me to dine here. This place is right on the Freedom Trail!! Which is why I guess they don't have to be attentive or personable - they don't rely on repeat business, just the tourist walk-in business. Too bad. I'm letting my fellow Yelper's know to patronize another business as this one obviously doesn't want yours.

My husband and I have patronized the Florentine a few times now and the food has been good quality though the last time I tried the grilled swordfish (take out because we were short on time) and it wasn't really good. But the service has always been friendly from the front of the house staff to the bartenders - its impressive what a smile and kind service can do. A bit noisy but the atmosphere was good. We are definitely going to be continuously repeat customers.

I've ate at Florentines a couple of times and while it was good, I would say that there are definitely better options in the north end. I never had a bad meal here, but it didn't stand out or leave me with the feeling that I must come back. The bar is probably the best in the North End since they make the best espresso martini ever. Trust me on this one! For entree's the lobster ravioli was the best dish I've tasted and would recommend this. I have also had the rigatoni Bolognese which was good but there are other places in the north end that make a better Bolognese. The service has always been fairly good, so no complaints there. There are so many restaurants in the north end and while I never had a bad experience, I can't say that this place is the best. I will however be back to go to the bar and grab a couple espresso martinis.

After the people at Fiore were so rude to us we decided to try a different place, we walked by Florentine and it looked cute and busy so we asked if we could have a table for 5 but our whole party wasn't there and they said sure. My friend and I ordered drinks and apps as we waited (burrata and proscuitto appetizers are awesome!) Best espresso martini I've ever had and I've tried them so many places!! The rest of my friends came and we ordered dinner (lobster raviolis and caesar salad, both very good) Gnocchi was good too. Our server Angelo was great and I tried a new wine, Vermentino, which was really good. He had the chef split our meals for us which was very nice and gave us great service. I will definitely be coming back.

For starters we ordered Bruschetta, and for entrees we opted for Linguini Scampi and Tubettoni Genovese. Bruschetta: The mozzarella did not taste fresh! The sole reason behind ordering this dish was for delicious fresh mozzarella so I was sorely disappointed when I took my first bite. Scampi: Too dry but has a lot of potential to be a great dish Genovese: Disaster! Do not order this dish. I was basically presented with a mountain of tomato sauce and pasta. I can just make that at home and it would cost me a lot less. The seafood was minimal in amount and were saturated with the overpowering flavor of the tomato sauce. Overall, Florentine Cafe has a great ambiance (dimly lit + open window seating!) and service but the food could be much, much better.

So blase. Was staying in the North End and North End Grill had a 30 minute wait and we were all starving so walked into this place. I learned in Econ 101 that competition results in cheaper prices and assumed that somehow translated into better food but this place sure proved me wrong. Ordered the linguine with clams in a red sauce. I could've made tastier sauce. Go somewhere else!

We were visiting Boston and hopped off our trolley tour at North End for an authentic Italian lunch. This is one of the underrated places on Yelp and we were surprised after our lunch! Promptly seated, good service, complimentary bread with olive oil, but the showstopper was the the chicken pasta entree (Pollo Fradiavolo) with spicy red sauce!! The sauce was made from scratch and tasted authentic and yummy - totally worth a visit when in mood for authentic Italian.

Bring spices....bland bland bland. I ordered pasta and shrimp Fra Diavolo. Rule number 1 with REAL Italians never put cheese with fish. I had to ask for red pepper and cheese (yes i have sinned), because the salt on the table was not enough to correct the bland flavor...forgot what my husband and daughter ordered but he needed to add salt and cheese - daughters was slightly better but she had lots of red peppers in her dish. Good olive oil with the ok bread. Wont be back.

I was very iffy about coming here. I read a lot of reviews, bad ones at that, before I came. I was going on a date and I strongly suggested we go somewhere else after seeing over 10 horrible reviews, whether it be about the service or the food. But my date insisted we go here, so I thought why not, its boston it can't be that bad. We got there and it was a cute restaurant. Very small though. We were seated in a window, which was great. We had a nice street view and men playing instruments came and played music for us. There was another table next to us that ended up being filled. It was really close and kind of awkward with another couple almost on top of us, it almost looked as if we were all together. I orderd the shrimp scampi thinking where could I go wrong. It didn't taste bad, just very bland. My date got the Chicken parm, which I should have ordered. His meal was excellent, great sauce. My meal on the other hand ended up making me sick. I was violently ill the next day. I'm not sure if it was food poisoning but I ended up in the hospital because I couldn't even keep water down. It's quaint but I would stay far FAR away from their fish!!!

I always loved coming here for drinks (which turned into dinner) when I lived in Boston, and now it's always a destination when I visit. On the most recent trip with my husband last month, I got the lobster ravioli (yum!) and he, a pesky vegan from San Francisco, was a bit perplexed with what to order aside from just a salad (the man likes to eat and "just a salad" will never do it for him, despite this recent foray into veganism). All of the pasta dishes had cheese in them, but the waiter suggested pasta with olive oil, tomatoes and veggies and he loved it! Yes, very simple, but it was nice he could get something he really enjoyed. Highly recommend, reasonable prices, cute atmosphere and there are always fun characters you'll meet there (this time one of the owners sat with us and told us to Facebook friend her 23 year old nephew, also a vegan, haha)! The only negative: the hostess at the front could be more professional and attentive...my husband wanted to go elsewhere, but glad we didn't let her attitude ruin the fun and deliciousness that is Cafe Florentine!

WE were very excited when we arrived and didn't have to wait to be seated but then the experience got a little messy. We were first disappointed when we couldn't be seated near the windows b/c we were a group of 4 not 2 groups of 2, then we were served hot white wine. After the bread arrived to the table we wanted olive oil, salt and pepper, because we couldn't see our waitress, we asked another if she could bring the oil she didn't answer when my husband asked so another party in our group said, "Miss" and the unfriendly waitress stopped and answered "What?" to my friend. Unfortunately, this place has good food and a lively ambiance because the wait staff was not pleasant!

YUM. this place is great- the ambiance feels authentic, the service is excellent, and the food is delicious. I came to Florentine Cafe for a friend's birthday. We were a large party of 8 so of course we had a reservation. Good thing because the place was packed. They sat us right away n the center of the restaurant. Our server, Mike, was very attentive, helpful, and friendly. He also had a heavy hand ith the wine (no complaints there.) We had the bruschetta for an appetizer- it was well seasoned, very flavorful, and fresh. For dinner I had the Frutti de Marre salad. The seafood was very well cooked- the scallops especially- and the salad was well dressed. The arugula could have been crispier, but then again it was served with warm seafood so I wasn't expecting much. A few of my friends had pasta dishes- HUGE portions but well favored all around. Overall, great experience. This is definitely a loud restaurant but still a great place for a date or dinner with friends/family. Bonjourno!

Great spot to grab a pint or a bite to eat. We had the Lobster Ravioli and it was great. Nice chunks of real lobster in a cream sauce. Loved it and the price, $15. Try it out.

Be Careful.... Went in to have a quick drink on a hot muggy afternoon. The place in itself is clean and has a nice arrangement of tables which has a long bar ... I managed to get a seat at the bar and ordered a drink. The drink was just average , nothing to fancy and the bill was 13 bucks. I quietly thought to myself that I would never order a drink in here again especially given that the same exact drinks are 7.50 down the way. At any rate, I payed by credit card and left a one dollar 'Cash" tip. READY: When I received my credit card statement, they added their own two dollar tip. I was outraged and will never go back there because of that. I contacted them and asked to speak to the manager "Gino" and they were very apprehensive and told me he was not available. In addition, someone who I use to work with told me that the same thing once happened to them at this same place. " WATCH YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS"!!!!!!

Like many other commenters, we found the service slow and not terribly friendly. Luckily the food was good, and we had a wonderful al fresco window seat. But we can find good food and window seats all over the North End. We'd be hesitant to go back due to the service.

What a lovely, quaint atmosphere situated in a bustling city strip. I loved dining here simply because it was aesthetically beautiful and romantic. It has a classic Italian decor that provides a relaxing vibe. The menu is great with a range of poultry and seafood (what I eat) that was delicious. They also boast a nice wine collection. I love that they open the windows when the weather permits and provide an outdoor feel. We got lucky with the weather when we went to visit in the fall and got to experience it. I would definitely recommend Florentine for a date night.

ok i am surprised i have never reviewed this place before, as we consistently go back to it when in the north end....it is not your typical north end restaurant, maybe moden italian, it has a number of window seats which are great in the warmer weather.....but sitting at the bar is also pretty nice...at the bar recently for lunch, bartender friendly and efficient, martini excellent and a decent size , esp. by north end standard, pollo fradiaviolo excellent as was the pene shrimp dish was also very good, have been here a number of times and have never had a bad meal, typical north end not too big inside so it does get crowded but has always been a great place to go!!!

I have to admit I was originally attracted to this North End restaurant because of the gorgeous decorations. The outside has greenery covering it with tiny tea lights. inside, surrounding the ample bar, is greenery with ornaments of vibrant colors. Murals of Florence Italy are painted on the walls. Needless to say, the environment was welcoming and very "North End"! We went for a light lunch here and my entire family really enjoyed our experience! The food was excellent and fresh and the service was amazing. if anything, they overfilled our water glasses! I ordered the Pizza de Tartufo (mushroom) and it was amazing. It was a white pizza so I asked for marinara sauce on the side. It was a big pizza for the price! if not for my brother, I would have definitely been taking leftovers home... My dad liked his calzone, filled with fresh veggies and a salami- like meat. The Paninis were just sandwiches basically- not grilled or hot or anything but came with balsamic greens on the side- perfect size for lunches. (Dad: "Isn't a panini SUPPOSED to be grilled?!") The kitchen staff were more than happy to personalize the orders and the plates were wisked away when we were finished. Because of the great company though we stayed and chatted for a while. Some restaurants try to hurry you along but we felt at home at Cafe Florentine. Mom and I also had glasses of the merlot and malbec and they were great. the prices were very reasonable, especially for Boston! My family hadn't really been to the North End so it was a perfect meal and we left satisfied with our last culinary experience in Boston!

Mixed review. Mista salad ok but a little overdressed. Pasta came overcooked and with different sauce than ordered. Grilled veal with spinach good. Bread good. Service average. Ambiance good. You can do better in North End

This is a great place for drinks prior to a reservation. I always "pre game" here. The bartenders are terrific! Very friendly. I ordered the calamari which was awful but that's ok! Other things ordered around me look great so I am sure it's a nice place to grab a fast dinner. The bar scene is great however!

    (4)
  • Brian B.

Stopped in for calamari and a glass of sangria at the bar. The calamari was terrible along with the over priced 12 dollar sangria. The service was unprofessional as well. The wait staff was more interested in their cell phones then customer service. NEVER will I return.

The beau and I had reservations elsewhere in the North End for our anniversary, but Boston had just gone through another blizzard and this was one of the only other restaurants open in the area so we decided to give it a try. The decor was nice and the dining room was pretty spacious, but it was so dark. Like so dark I could barely read my menu. I get the whole romantic lighting ambiance thing, but stick a candle in there or something so I can at least read my menu. Moving on... the service was good. We were seated right away and our server was very nice and attentive. We ordered the linguini scampi and zuppa di pesce. The seafood in both dishes were very overcooked and the shrimp had absolutely NO FLAVOR. I felt like I was eating a flavorless piece of rubber. The linguini was so-so, very buttery. Minus the overcooked seafood, the zuppa was alright, but when you're paying $40 for a dish that is comprised of mostly seafood, it should be better than ok. Needless to say we were not impressed with the food. I wanted to go with 2 stars here but I do have to give them the benefit of the doubt; they were one of few restaurants open on Hanover and were most likely understaffed due to the weather. Will this encourage me to return on a regular night? Probably not, but it wouldn't deter me from coming back either.

You want the North End red-sauce place? You want the place that opens its windows when the weather permits? You want what unimaginative suburban tourists imagine the Olive Garden might be if it was more, you know, really nice? Well smack me with an arancini and pour me a chianti, you want the Florentine Cafe! Rendering competent versions of standard Italian-American fare since... whenever they happened to open. You know what's good here. Chicken parm? It's fine. Zitti with chicken? No chance of offending you. Just want a steak? Great! We'll put "balsamico" in the name to give it a little flair.

Walked around the North End for a while trying to find a decent place to eat that wasn't too crowded or obnoxious and where we wouldn't have to wait over an hour. Luckily we stumbled onto Florentine. They were packed but seated us right away at a nice table in the window. The location was fantastic given that it was a cool and breezy evening. The food was good - not the best Italian food we've ever had, but definitely recommendable. The staff was also very prompt and attentive.

Our first trip to Boston and we made a stop in the North End. We stop by Florentine Cafe for lunch. I had the soup which was delicious with shredded chicken carrots onions spinach. The pizza and sandwich was great - Full of flavor. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Our server Rachel was awesome too. Our table was two adults and three small kids. She was super helpful in helping us choose items.

Came here on a whim since most other restaurants in the area had line. This place is far from bad, but far from great as well. Service was good; attentive and friendly. The food was mediocre. Their lobster ravioli was okay at best- no chunks of lobster. Mostly a mashed lobster paste mixed with some cheese. Our calamari appetizer was also decent. Three stars for good service, and a nice place. But the food is far from exceptional.

I am appalled by what happened at the restaurant on Saturday, the 29th of November 2014. Having frequented Florentine Café many times before, my wife and I entered the restaurant to end the evening with cocktails. We were not welcomed by anyone at the door, and proceeded to the bar. Unable to find a spot, we helped ourselves to an empty table opposite from the bar. There were many open tables and a number of occupied ones, and not being received by a hostess we seated ourselves. Two minutes later a casually dressed waitress came to speak us. She merely said "you cannot sit here unless you want to eat something". Noticing her hostile attitude I immediately requested to speak to the manager to request of him to accommodate us. Having been to the restaurant a number of times I thought the manager would be understanding to accommodate us for two cocktails before we leave. To our utter detriment and excruciating shock the manager came to our table and shouted "you can't drink here, get out, get out!". It was a caucasian male with dark hair and a beard, dressed in black pants and a black shirt. Never has anything like this happened in my entire life, and at the very least I would like an apology from the waiter for embarrassing me in front of my wife and the other patrons. If the person who came to chase us out of the restaurant is indeed the manager, I would urge the owners to find another one as such a level of inhumane conduct is no place for a restaurant.

This is one of my go-to places in the North End (little Italy for the tourists). The drinks are always amazing and their food is great! Last time here, the wife and I had a few apps and drinks for a nice day out and the price is always right here. It is an easy in and out and has parking lots near by.

The ambiance was much better than the food..... I wasn't very impressed with the wine list, a bottle of wine that I can buy at the store for $6 was going for $45...ouch! My party said that they enjoyed their food but agreed that it wasn't remarkable by any means. Lobster ravioli, spinach ravioli, chicken parm, and for me the campanelli with sausage..which was supposed to have s spicy tomato sauce..I think they forgot to put it in the dish. My dish just needed more flavor, it wasn't mushy or overcooked just under seasoned. Since we were visiting Boston for the weekend I would try the MANY other Italian restaurants before I came back here.

We ordered: Appetizers: Pomodoro and the calamari. They were both good and fresh. Also ordered a Cesar salad which was just okay, but they were very liberal on the anchovy paste in the Cesar dressing. Meals: carbonera chicken, siciliana pizza, pollo fraddiavolo. The carbonera was very bland and there were no peas in the dish. The presentation was pretty boring for that dish add well; no color other then yellow. The pollo dish was supposed to be spicy, and that was also very bland , but the chicken was not dry. And the pizza was bad, couldn't even finish my slice. Nothing like the real deal and I've had a siciliana pizza in Sicily. This was the first Italian restaurant that I've ever been to that didn't serve coffee. The server was not friendly but the bus boy was highly efficient. They had all the window doors open, so it was quite warm in there. Was disappointed all in all.

This was the WORST experience of my life. We arrived at 9pm for drinks, there was no hostess/ waitress to greet us and as the bar area was full we seated ourselves at a table. After a few minutes a waitress arrived and told us we can't sit there unless we were eating. We explained that their bar was full and asked to see the manager. All the tables were empty and we felt that it was ok for us to sit at one and have a quick drink. The manager arrived, and without greeting us, or listening to our problem he just said "GET OUT". I was astounded at this! Never in my life have I heard those words from a professional. Who in the world is he to tell me to "GET OUT"????? Who ever hired this IMBECILE of a manager must be crazy. This was completely disgusting and unprofessional. I will never in my life go to this place again. DISGUSTING CUSTOMER SERVICE! YOU SHOULD BE SO ASHAMED!!!!

Florentine Cafe is good for drinks before dinner. They have a full bar (many in the North End serve beer and wine only) so I definitely recommend getting your cocktail fix there. It's right on Hanover and very charming on the outside so it tends to be a tourist trap. There are many other great restaurants in the North End for sure -- save your money and go somewhere more worth it.

I've been in culinary school for 4 years now and have eaten at countless places throughout the east coast. I very confidently say my family and I had the best meal that any of us have had in the past 10 years (all cusine). Two of us got the Pollo AL Limone which was moist and bold in every aspect. The other two got a lobster, shrimp, and clam pasta with spicy marinara which had amazing homemade pasta and such a range in flavors for a pasta dish. Not to mention the customer service was excellent and the word cafe undermines the rustic Italian feel of this place!

I asked my business partner where we should go for authentic Italian food. The first mention was the North end the second was Cafe Florentine. I am happy I agreed! We stopped for lunch on a nice sunny spring Boston day. The windows were open and we were seated with a window on Hanover street. The waitress was very friendly and knew all about the menu. They make their own pasta sauce and pasta. The coffee was superb and the appetizers were a meal in themselves. This is a great place to go for a business lunch or a casual date. Very quaint and pretty with old world charm. Go for the food and as much the authentic Italian Boston atmosphere. I will go again!

Nice location. A bit "cozy" but no worse than any other in Little Italy. Our server was good. Not a lot of personality but pleasant. Fried mozzarella app was good. Not great but good. I had Fettuccine Carbonara. Fresh pasta was good. Sauce was good but no "wow" factor. My wife had the Pizza Margarita. That was really disappointing. Even though it's meant to be a very basic pizza, there was no flavor and even the sauce seemed like some I'd get from a can at 7-11. We honestly had much tastier local pizza with fresher ingredients from a food truck the other day.

Every time I venture to the North End I end up here. When the North End is packed you can usually find a seat at the bar for an amazing meal and drink. Enjoyed everything from their salads sandwiches and pasta. My favorite is just the light caprese sandwich. After walking through the North End, nothing can be better.

We uber'd into the North End for a concert Saturday night during one of the fun street festivals. It was jammed with people, beer gardens, food carts, midway games - lots of fun! To get out of the the craziness, we went over to one of our favorite restaurants Florentine Cafe. Perfect location across from the lovely Peace Garden and a block from Mike's Pastry. This little place is like flying back to Florence. It's beautifully lush window boxes outside invite you in to a great dining experience. The windows were open, the bar area was buzzing with people - very much like Italy. Even though it was a busy time, we were seated within 5 minutes. Our waitress was friendly and very efficient. She brought chewy crusty bread with a light olive oil, cheese, pepper dipping sauce. We shared a caprese salad which was out of this world fresh with a delish balsamic drizzle. My husband said his meal was excellent: Lobster ravioli with a vodka cream sauce. I was jealous! However my spinach ravioli in a flavorful red sauce was also excellent. We like to try different restaurants when we are in the North End - they are all good. I can't see waiting in an 1 1/2 hr line for a restaurant when there are so many to choose from. tripadvisor.com/ShowUser…

Florentine cafe has a pre-dinner happy hour session and I for the life of me cannot get used to standing in a lineup before opening time for good places... or just any place. Anyways, my friends and I came for a happy hour drink at Florentine and stayed for dinner. The bartenders made nice drinks and gave their best at promoting their home made pineapple vodka [Svedka based soaked in a big jar]. The food came swiftly, but the silverware had to be waited for. The server was delightful and obviously fresh off the boat, staring at us with a blank expression through gorgeous piercing eyes. Italian. Go figure. The food was medium sized and light-heavy [if that makes sense] Full fleshed but not overboard gutfilling. Good for a pasta dish and not the oversizes you get at other north end. I had the cheese ravioli, my friend had the Linguini con Vongole. We eventually did get the pineapple vodka that had quite the punch. I would have given this place a 4 star but for the unavoidable noticement of the servers obsessions with their own phones. At first, you think it's them answering them as part of their jobs at the restaurant, but then you notice that it's blatantly just them on their own business. To the point that they turn their backs to the customers! Apparently Florentine staff is not trained in rudeness awareness. It's worth calling management on and never going back, too bad it's in a prime tourist location. It's neat with a good view. Maybe is management takes a line on cell phone use during shifts it would have superb service as there is definitely potential for.

Boston's Little Italy is an area rich with charm and history. One Thursday I set out on foot to explore this fine city and by mid afternoon my phone and body needed a recharge. I passed many cute cafes and bistros before deciding to try The Florentine Cafe. This classy restaurant was bustling with activity and I appreciated the unique architecture. The corner location has cozy tables overlooking the street with ideal people watching potential. Unfortunately the server would not let me sit at a table without ordering a meal, even though it was 2:30 in the afternoon and between peak hours. I settled in at the bar and my friendly bartender let me bring my phone back to life after heavy a heavy day of Yelping. I sampled an Italian red wine that had deep color, nice legs and intense flavors. It was a gorgeous sunny day in Boston and The Florentine Cafe is built for this weather. As I relaxed and sipped wine I listened to stories about the weather just 2 months prior. The bartender shared tales of a city deeply buried in snow which reminded me why Dave Loggins' famous song specifically mentions springtime in Boston. The Florentine Cafe was the perfect place to recharge and learn more about this lovely city.

The food here was ok! The calamari was good but cold when it got to us but the portion was good enough for 4 people. I got this seafood mixture with pasta and it was pretty good. There was a few clams and shrimp and a piece of lobster meat. The taste was good and it was filling. My friend got the veal pasta and that was good - good for you meat lovers out there, but there is a very distinct veal taste, so if you don't like that don't get it. My other friend got shrimp scampi and that was my least favorite dish because it was tooooooooo buttery! The best dish of the night was the lobster ravioli! If your gonna go here for dinner go for the lobster ravioli! I would stay away from the shrimp scampi unless you love butter! Other than that the price I guess is kinda average for North End, but I've always thought food in that area was too expensive. I'd honestly rather spend 12$ at a chain restaurant for a plate of pasta rather then 23$ for a plate of pasta in the North End. To me it's not worth it, pasta is pasta doesn't matter where i get it!

Food and wine was amazing- 5/5 stars. Lobster ravioli cannot be beat. HOWEVER. dinner experience was potentially (probably) ruined because of the lackadaisical hostess who rolled her eyes when she seated us at a table with dirty dishes, and we asked for clean ones. especially after waiting over 45 minutes for a table for 4 at 630 on a Monday night (which she originally told us 10-15), we'd have hoped she might have shown even the slightest hint of mildly pleasantness. minus her- one of my favorite spots in the north end.

Florentine is a great neighborhood spot for drinks and fun. I've been here numerous times with friends when we want to have a low-key night with a few drinks. My favorite is the Espresso martinis here. So good! The food however usually disappoints. Last time I was here with a friend we decided to do a few apps. We got Bruschetta, Calamari and a house salad. the Bruschetta which IMO is a staple for an Italian restaurant was boring, the Calamari was pretty good, and the salad was nothing to rave or complain about. I've never had a full meal here, but I think i'll stick to drinks!

Food and service was excellent. The lasagna was sooooooooo gooooood! If you are in the Boston area definitely eat here. Right on the strip. I'm Italian and it is hard to find a really good authentic Italian place...but this hit the spot

Met my family at Northend for dinner after work. It was summertime and everything was busy. We decided to try this spot about 45 minute wait, expected with no reservation. We finally get seated. Appetizer we ordered was fabulous. We were so excited to get our dinners. Once them came 2 of the 3 of us were disappointed. My husband had a lasagna where the pasta was over done and mushy. Mine lacked flavor. On the bright side my daughter loved her lobster ravioli. Not a favorite spot so many other great places to try probably won't be back.

This place was excellent. Not too expensive and left me stuffed!!! I highly recommend getting the tubettoni genovese. Next time I come to the North End I know where I will be going.

Sat in the window- very pretty and a lovely place to be. Food was reasonable. Not good, not bad. There are probably better Italian restaurants around. Service was so so. All round, I would probably go back, not not necessarily the first place I would on my return to Boston.

NIGHTCAP Stopped in for some after dinner drinks. The bar was crowded with a vibrant bar scene. We were lucky enough to grab two seats at the end of the bar. I loved the beautiful wood bar. It was really something special to look at. I loved there bar menu. There was a huge suggestion of martinis. I went with the St Germaine Martini which is made with Ketel One Oranjestad Vodka with St Germaine, fresh lime juice and a dash of blueberry juice. Our bartender Gino was great and suggested it might be too sweet. He then modified the recipe to make it more manly and less sweet. Gino rocks for keeping my manhood intact. We did not have dinner but I peaked at the dinner menu and everything looked delicious. I would consider coming back to eat. At around 10pm the tables were all empty but the bar was packed, so it is a lively atmosphere, if you are looking for that during a school night. I'll have to come back for dinner sometime but I can highly recommend the drinks. Make sure you get Gino to make them because he was great.

This was a great stop in the North End. Such a romantic restaurant. The lobster ravioli was amazing! Will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Boston!

Stopped by the Florentine for a late lunch/early dinner on a hot Friday afternoon while walking the Freedom trail in Boston. Were treated to a table by the open window, giving us a great view of the historic North End while enjoying a great glass of wine. The food was phenomenal - I enjoyed the lobster ravioli which was fantastic, while my son had a pizza that was great. My entire family enjoyed their meal, and afterwards we were able to walk across the street and enjoy some Mike's Pastries for dessert.

Positives included the burrata and lobster ravioli. Negatives include the chewy calimari which in the North End is inexcusable. Overall it was a good restaurant, but not exceptional.

The atmosphere was great and I loved our server. She was so sweet! But the bartender definitely catered to the "regulars" while ignoring those strangers who had sat at the bar first. I get it, you'd prefer to get a small tip daily from those regulars, rather than a larger one time tip from a stranger. But still, don't look at me repeatedly and then say "oh I forgot you were waiting." The food was mediocre. Very bland. I'd rather go across the bridge and go to Rino's. Just b/c it's the North End doesn't mean that the food is going to be great.

Three of us went. Three of us did not care for it. Seevice was slow and food was just ok. My friend asked for hot tea and they said they didnt have any. While waiting for our meal she wemt to a little store across the way to get herself some tea. What restaurant doesnt have tea??

The food here is not good. All of the seafood was significantly overcooked. Although many other restaurants on the strip were not open, Florentine Cafe was. I wish it wasn't. For the cost of the meal, the seafood in the Zuppa di Pesce was barely edible. Too bad. I would have sent it back had I not felt bad that all other restaurants were closed and this was open. Many other better options for food in the area than this. Bar was hopping and loud. Wine was decent.

The food and ambience were great. The one downside was the hostess, who acted like it was the biggest inconvenience that we walked into the restaurant for dinner. She seated us and threw the silverware and napkins on the table like trash. We then had the pleasure of watching her fake smile, then give dirty looks and roll her eyes at all other patrons that walked through the door. Definitely ruins the experience. Suggest going straight to the bar to avoid being seated.

Veal Marsala and gnocchi were quite good. Caprese salad was a good starter. Pizza just ok. Lovely bar made it a bit noisy.

The bartender likes to give free drinks to the young ladies. I've only gone on a tue night.. But have noticed this quite a bit. He has a lot of tattoos but seems like a nice guy.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
