Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I had the shrimp burrito and despite my hesitancy that it was going to be dry shrimp it was pretty good....a new place to bring the bf soon! The hibiscus juice was good too...and the guac was yummy..

I think this is the best Mexican restaurant in the Boston area. I go on the weekends when they prepare specials: pozole, carnitas, adobado, and birria. Love the three sauces that come with the platters. The wait staff is pleasant and most accommodating when I ask for extra plates so that we can share our orders. The pozole is always too much for me to finish. The staff wraps it up so well, that there's no leakage. The torta de tres leches is delicious.

For me this place always tops my list of good Mexican food in the Boston area. The food is always fantastic, when you wanna get your fill this is the place to do it at. So I have tried so many places to find the best burrito in town and not many came close to what Jalisco has. They are by far the best for any burrito with out a doubt. They are big the tortilla that it comes in never rips it's super clean, and the portions are amazing. The salsa that they make is just superb, compliments the food really well. The tacos are awesome to have while you are waiting for your food.

Taqueria Jalisco has a big reputation and we had big expectations, but after just having had the Aztec in Framingham two days before, we were kind of disappointed. Their nachos are meticulously crafted with cheese and beans on each chip. The effort is appreciated, but the cheese doesn't have much flavor and it's not salted enough for me. My partner ordered the carne asada which he thought was okay. I chose the Mexican steak with onions, it was tasty enough. I know this place is very well liked, maybe I'll have to try it again. The service was fantastic. Sweet older lady worked really hard with lots of smiles. Oh! they have Tamarind juice (my faaaaaaavorite).

On our last day in Boston, my boyfriend and I explored East Boston, or Eastie. We had our farewell dinner at Taqueria Jalisco. We found parking a few blocks away and walked over to this little eatery off Bennington street. We were lucky to get a two seat table, which was the very last one available at the time (even the counter seats were taken). Our waitress asked us what we wanted to drink. I got one of the fresh juices. It was very refreshing with lots of ice (great on a hot summer day). For our meals, my boyfriend got a vegetarian dish, the fajita. I went with fried tilapia on rice that came with pico de gallo and salad. Honestly, we had our best meal here during our trip to Boston. Great, authentic, Mexican flavors. Very good! Everyone there was friendly and very attentive. They were genuinely happy when we said we enjoyed our meals. This is a great place!

After a beautiful day at the beach this was a great stop for a quick dinner. We were seated right away and the staff was friendly. Some of the menu was in Spanish, but our server was very patient and answered all of our questions. I had the burrito with adobada, marinated pork. It was delicious! With just a hint of spice and three homemade sauces to use as we ate, it was mouth watering! The food did not need the sauces but each one brought out a different side to the food. I also tried a Jamaica, which is a hibiscus drink. Perfect blend of sweet and tart making it a refreshing drink after spending so much time in the sun. I lived in Phoenix for several years and this is the first Mexican food in Boston that compares. I will be back!

This place is the real deal! As authentic as you had hoped it would be. The service is impeccable; friendly and assertive. It seemed really clean and for a little hole in the wall, it was very nicely decorated. The tacos are where this hole in the wall stands out. They are done right. They aren't fun and inventive, they are authentic and right, that's all I need to say. The salsa also stood out to me, it was slightly sweet but perfectly balanced. Lastly, lets talk about value; best bang for your buck in this area hands down. There is no way you will spend under $20 in that area and get food that good and waitstaff that friendly, trust me.

Que freakin' RICO. If I had known about the food mecca that is East Boston earlier in my life, my high school level Spanish certainly wouldn't have deteriorated to the point of me having to ask, "Gracias..uhh is it por or para...? la comida? I give up." Taqueria Jalisco is everything that taco joints in central Boston aren't: 1) inexpensive, 2) lovely in both portion and quality, 3) actually made by, and consumed by locals who know Mexican food, LEGIT, 4) where your taste buds will die and go to food heaven, and refuse to leave. It is home to real HORCHATA (ugh, YES! I've been on my hunt for my local holy grail / kyrptonite Horchata!), pozole (rarely find this on any menus locally, and rarely made with any authenticity to recipes used in Mexico), and some mighty fine tacos. To the local Mexican guys who stared at me in awe and giggled while I took photos of my tacos (oh, you sly fox, get your mind out of the gutter) from 100 angles for that perfect Instagram-able quality, I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. Asian genes, you know. Major predisposition here. And thanks for complimenting me on my hippie headband, or as you called it, "that thing on your head that looks nice." You'll find your typical taco fare here, alongside a full menu of other great menu options, including a cabeza taco (yes, it's from the head of a cow, but utterly tender and tasty). So bring your abuela, your niños, your amigos, or whoever, but most importantly, bring a bib and an appetite, you're in for a delicious ride.

I must have ordered badly -- I was craving Mexican style fish, but they ended up just giving me a really, really flat, tough piece of chicken, and it was not especially good. Seemed like solid Mexican from what I saw of it other than that, but it didn't really seem special either. Hopefully I get a chance to come back soon and see what everyone else was raving about!
(3)Limari N.
Very good tacos and packed with carne asada. Two tacos is a whole meal. The little restaurant was immaculate and the woman at the counter was so friendly. She even let me speak to her in my bad spanish. haha!. What I loved the most was the fresh salsa and freshly fried tortilla chips. The chips were warm and the salsa had a delicious hint of habanero. yum! I definitely recommend this place to everyone. You won't feel like an outsider.

I visited this restaurant with my girlfriend on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. I was politely greeted by the server and she was very attentive to our table and did a great job of making recommendations, answering questions, etc. We ordered the meat nachos, 3 tacos (combo platter), and 2 meat tamales. This was plenty of food for 2 people and cost about $25. The food was very authentic, well done, and included 3 house made salsas (tomato, avocado, green tomato) to accompany the entire the meal. Everything tasted fantastic and the salsas were spicy with great tasting variety. My favorite part of the meal were the nachos. They dressed every single chip with carne asada, beans, and cheese - very impressed with this. Overall fantastic place if your ever in the neighborhood and definitely worth coming out to.

This is the BEST Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. The service was phenomenal; the restaurant was clean and inviting; the prices were very cheap; and the food was delicious and authentic. My boyfriend and I biked out to East Boston for the day, so by the time we arrived at Taqueria Jalisco, we had worked up an appetite. We each ordered a meat tamale, a plate of the Nachos Carne to share, and the Tacos Combinacion platter, which came with 3 tacos (we ordered the carnitas, beef tongue and beef), rice and beans. In addition to this, we were given a basket of chips and salsa while we waited for our food. The meat tamales arrived first, and were simple and tasty - a great way to begin the meal. This was the first time I've ever had tamales, so I had no idea what to expect. For everyone who's never had a tamale before (like me), it's basically a starchy dough that's wrapped in a corn husk (which you peel off before eating). Ours were also stuffed with meat, which added great flavour. Right after we finished the tamales, our waitress brought the Nachos con Carne (impeccable timing). What stood out most about these nachos was the absolute precision with which they were made - each chip was dressed with the perfect ratio of cheese, meat, tomato, onion, jalapeno, avocado and lettuce. Although this sounds like a fairly ridiculous and unimportant observation, it added a uniformity to the dish, which guaranteed each bite to be equally as delicious as the last. Unlike all the nacho plates that i've ordered at other Mexican restaurants, I did not find myself scrounging around for toppings to put on the last couple of naked chips at the bottom of the plate. After our 3-course appetizer, we dug into the Tacos Combinacion platter, which featured carnitas, beef tongue and beef tacos, along with rice and refried beans. Again, I have absolutely no complaints about this dish, especially given how tender the meat was. What I liked most about the dish was that you could add as much or as little rice/ beans/ lettuce/ salsa as you'd like. I liked to dress my tacos with all 3 of the salsa-based sauces that our waitress brought us, because they were all very flavourful and added a spicy zing to the taco. The green sauce (my personal favourite) was avocado-based, and much milder than the other two. Aside from the food, the service was also excellent! Our waitress was attentive and very polite. She answered all of our questions perfectly, and didn't even bat an eye as a butchered the pronunciation of the menu items. The food arrived very quickly, and the check even quicker. Wouldn't hesitate to come back!

This is a great place for fresh and savory tamales and soft tacos! For the tamales, there are green chilies and chicken and beef with a red chili sauce. The tamales were larger than I expected and had tender masa. They are definitely more on the drier side than some of the other tamales that I've had which is probably attributable to the use of less fat drippings in the meat stuffing. That's A-OK with me because that means these tamales are probably a little healthier. For the tacos, choose from pork, chicken, beef, beef tongue, and beef head + white onions & cilantro. The grilled shrimp & cilantro dish came with succulent shrimp in a creamy sauce with fresh avocado and rice/salad. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their dishes. I especially liked the free salsa (tangy and spicy) along with the side hot sauces which are conveniently stored in a mobile carrier!
(4)Victoria K.
Very delicious, but saddened i did not see fish tacos on the menu. I got the cilantro tacos, which were tasty with a pretty display. The waitress was very nice, and the first round of chips were on the house.
(4)Robert Z.
I've heard this was the best place for Mexican in all of Boston. I would have to expand on that by saying it might have been the best Mexican food I've ever eaten, and I've been to Mexico. I got several tacos and a quesadilla and was blown away. The staff was awesome and the place had a really nice ambience. I will definitely be back.
(5)Daphanie I.
I love this place so much. The breakfast is perfect, the tacos are out of this world. I've never been disappointed. For those salsa lovers, they give three kinds to have with your meal. So good.
(5)Sara C.
The holy grail of Mexican food in Boston. Authentic everything. Rice, beans, tacos, tostadas de tinga, and the Pozole is amazing! Huge bowl enough for a couple meals. The homemade salsas are divine as is the fresh pineapple juice. Tres leches was less than amazing - not moist enough. Should have gone with the flan. Next time! We will be back. And service is super friendly.
(5)GJ B.
Our waitress was pleasant. The prices are average. The food is good. I ordered a chimichanga with pork which was deep fried and tasted great. My compadre ordered a steak sandwich which he said was good. I would recommend this place. G
(4)Roy K.
Really excellent food. It's a delightful family-owned restaurant that's more the size and shape of a local pizza parlor so the seating is limited. And the food here is really superb. As others have said, the three salsas they serve are all home made and really good. It's one of the few spots to get lengua tacos or burritos and on weekends they serve several Mexican specialty dishes not usually found in this part of the world. Taqueria Jalisco is definitely worth a special trip to East Boston.
(5)Diane G.
Yup, the food here is friggin fantastic! When you order and only then do they prep/ cook the food. With so many places taking shortcuts it's wonderful to have a place with passion. The burritos or enormous - great flavor and perfect rice, meat so tender with nicely sauté veggies with delightful avocado. The aroma when you open the foil wrapping the toasted tortilla just gets the taste buds ready. The quesadilla is perfectly toasted with the right ratio of meat to cheese. You can't go wrong with anything from here. It is better to go in rather than deliver but it's all Flippin gooood !
(4)Bo F.
This is the place for genuine street food, tacos, soups, etc.. This place does it the right way for the right price, with the right staff.. Definitely a best of Boston for food of its type. This is worthy of a weekly stop. I've had most of the items on the menu and have not been disappointed once. -Enjoy
(4)Tulan K.
I ordered the chkn fajitas and chkn tamale. The fajitas were good taste wise but beans & rice were nothing different . Missed my cheese and guac with it since I dont think it comes with it Totally hated the tamales. Very bland and did not had the tomotilla sauce on it as it comes with it. The burittos are as big as a newborn baby. Everyone liked the food not bad and the price were decent too. The mango jarritos were awesome I actually had a couple. Also I dont think they have booze so be prepared. The sauces were nice and the salsa was fresh and spicy. Wush there could be a little change in rice and beans and make it more tastiers with some spices
(3)Andrew L.
tacos and salsa here are on point, and definitely worth the trip outside of downtown Boston. It's a small spot, best for groups smaller than 4. The chips are fresh and taste house-made (as does everything else), and the salsa is excellent. I had the taco plate with adobada, carne asada, and pollo. It came with 3 house-made salsas depending on what you like. Not much else to say about this place except that you have to try it if you've been searching for Mexican food in Boston.
(4)Harry H.
Scored a superb tostada de camaron and some excellent horchata with large chicken and steak quesadillas to go. Food was ready and fresh in 15 minutes, with friendly staff and a good value. Dig it.
(5)Dave F.
Today we embarked on a quest to find the best tamales in the Boston area. Achievement unlocked at Taqueria Jalisco! After trying other places on Bennington we had to limit ourselves to a red tamale (pork). Fortunately it came with the fabled three sauces. The tamale itself, mmm. Light corn meal, fresh flavors, perfectly steamed in corn husk. The freshness was not a surprise, as the chips and salsa had already alerted us to the fresh, homemade character of all the food here. Bright cheery decor, friendly staff, bustling atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon. This is a place we'll return to, now that we know it's _the_ place for good Mexican food. And next time we are ordering way more than just tamales.
(5)H. A.
What a treat!!! It's super close to the airport. It took longer to get our order than I would have thought-- not an "in and out" experience. But the salsa served with chips was delicious, and the tacos were among the best I have had in Boston HANDS DOWN. $2.25 per taco-- as it should be. Carnitas was so superbly tender, and the adobada was nicely spiced.
(5)Patrick S.
This place always had a line not just because it is small but because the food is so delicious! The chimichanga was amazing not to mention their homemade salsas.
(5)Beantown S.
I'm giving three stars because the food is pretty good...if you have the time to wait for it. I've been twice in the past month, both on Friday evenings but late (8pm or 9pm) and both times waited at least 45 minutes for the food. The servers are VERY nice and bring over chips and salsa quickly and take your order in a timely manner but the cooks need to either step their game up or have help because I cannot justify 45 minutes for a sandwich nor a taco. The refried beans also have pretty limited flavor, side note.
(3)Miles I.
Truly one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants in Boston. My housemates and I rent a zipcar just to come here. Wonderful service, and a cozy environment. Get the tostada camarones. You won't regret it!
(5)Madeleine Q.
Compared to food truck tacos in Jalisco Mexico and other variations in LA and NYC, we were not as impressed. However, they have a good range of authentic selections and all menu items are freshly prepared. The service was excellent. I would agree that they have one of the best tacos in Greater Boston. If you are not so inclined to wait for limited seating options inside the eatery, you can opt for easy street parking and take out as well.
(4)Jonathan L.
We stopped here for dinner on our way to Kauai. It's a very friendly little place popular with the locals. The food is delicious and inexpensive. Hard to go wrong here. Will be back next time we're in the area!
(4)Scott O.
Great, great place. I have been going to Jalisco regularly for about 5 years now. I hit this place at least every other weekend. Their breakfast is really good. The huevos rancheros is my go-to dish--so much so that they now simply ask me if I want "the usual"! The pozole is also very good, especially if you've had a few the night before.
(5)Jeff A.
We love this place so much that we go there at least once a week, the huevos con chorizo re really good and the tamales too....Good Job...
(5)Brian B.
First of all, I am a native Texan, and I have a hankering for Mexican a lot... I have had great and terrible Mexican. THIS PLACE DELIVERS. Super quaint with a few booths, but it's bright and the atmosphere is superb. The meal was preceded with the staple homemade chips and salsa, both were delicious. I ordered the flautas, 2 with beef, 2 with chicken. They waitress was fun and attentive and also brought 3 traditional salsas to the table for dipping. The refried beans and rice tasted so fresh and were seasoned perfectly. Now, the flautas were crispy and full of meat from tip to tip, and full of traditional Mexican flavor. One thing that bothers me is when flautas or toquitos have an inch and a half of extra shell void of any meat. These puppies were stuffed! Overall it was a great dining experience and I will be back! ¡Buenas Noches!
(5)Christina L.
It's hard to find good & quick Mexican food near Boston. This place hits the spot. You can't go wrong with their taco combo with rice & beans or their carnitas. You have to try their tres leches cake, so delicious!
(5)Stacy X.
This is hands-down my favorite place to go for Mexican food. Since moving out here from California 3 years ago, I've had the hardest time finding a good Mexican restaurant. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place after dropping off a friend at Boston Logan airport and now, everytime we are in or around East Boston, we stop here for food. Recently, I was talking to a few of my Mexican clients and they agree, this is their favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Boston.
(5)Lewis G.
I think Boston people are getting way too excited about this place. It is very good for Boston Mexican food standards (which are very low). They have a small kitchen and just a few tables, and they can whip together just about any Mexican dish you could want. I think the carne asada could use better seasoning tho, and some other things could be done better, but overall it is a legit place for Mexican food in a city with very few options. One can only handle so much Chipotle and Anna's Taqueria. I would give this place 2 stars if it were in San Diego. My 4 star rating is weighted based on the area. One day Boston will have good Mexican food like NYC does, but that day is still far off.
(4)Rebecca H.
Mexican food and Boston never seemed to go together, but this definitely hit the spot. Coming from out West, I have been missing simple, homemade, family style Mexican. We came for the pozole (enormous bowl! - enough for 2 meals for 2 people), but ended up also getting tacos, tamales and licuados. It is definitely a family joint, and definitely worth the trip out to East Boston.
(5)Javier C.
I went to this place with high expectations as it was recommended to us by an east Boston resident. I lived in Mexico for 6 years and it has been tough finding something relatively close to those amazing flavors I long remember. This place hit the mark and exceeded way way way high my expectations. It is like BOOM! SHAKALALA! On my face! I had the 3 taco platter with cabeza, carnitas, and lengua. It was really good. My friend had the Pozole Soup and let me tell you, the taste brought me back to those little corner food stands in Mexico. Then we added ONE lb of carnitas to our order and it was tender and succulent, like it had been cooked in a Copper Pot which is the right way of doing it. For dessert we had Flan, and it was spectacular! Creamy and fresh with the right amount of caramel sugar syrup. It is a very small place with no much seating but it is worth every moment of the uncomfortable tightness of the locale. The service is also great, very cordial and friendly providing good suggestions. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for some quick not fancy authentic Mexican food!
(5)Nicole G.
All of the reviews were misleading because I had the tacos and they were DISGUSTING. Nothing about that place is good not to mention I was told it would be a half hour for delivery and it took almost and hour and a half.
(1)Meaghan G.
This place was amazing. A tiny store front that at 3 pm was packed for lunch. I had pozole, a dish I have not eaten since living in Guadalajara and it was every bit as good. My friend and I both drank horchata as well, a delicious typical rice based beverage with cinnamon. Seriously one of the best Mexican meals I have had, in Mexico or the states.
(5)Deborah B.
What a gem! Food was amazing and fresh. Service was stellar and very attentive. Can't wait to go back to the airport and make a stop at this wonderful restaurant.
(5)Nancy Q.
While the food is awesome, tasty, and filling, the service sucks!! I use to go there a lot but after the last incident I was DONE with this place. I called for take out and was told the food would be ready for pick up in 40 minutes. Which was fine since I know they get very busy during the weekends. When I got there we waited and extra ten minutes. I finally got fed up and asked about my food since it should've been ready by then. The staff looked puzzle and told me to wait and extra 5 minutes. When I questioned why I should wait since I had ordered about an hour ago, that's when they decided to tell me that my order was sent elsewhere!!!!! They were trying hide that from me and make me wait an extra 15-20 minutes while they had a full house!!! That threw me off edge so I walked out and went next door. Done with this establishment!!!
(2)Cam T.
You can usually judge how good a Mexican restaurant is by the salsa they serve with their chips. This place was spectacular and it kept getting better. Everything tasted authentic and my steak burrito was complimented with three different delicious sauces. I ordered a side of mole and it was amazing. This might be my new spot!
(5)Amanda S.
This place is awesome. By far the best Mexican food I've had in Massachusetts since moving here from Texas a year ago. I've been twice now and I definitely foresee many more trips in the future. The chicken flautas were crispy and flavorful. The pechuga a la plancha was great and flavorful as well. And the rice and beans! Fantastic, which is super important when Mexican food used to be a staple in my life. I'm so happy that I found this place.
(5)Lorenzo K.
Just moved to Boston and now I finally have my Sunday MENUDO spot! Service and food is amazing !!!!
(5)Gino M.
This little hole in the wall Is delicious and authentic Mexican food. On the weekends she has Mexican tripe food called menudo and other yummy soups to help cure an amazing night out. The prices are moderate but the dishes are huge. The breakfast is delicious. Try the chorizo con huevos. You'll be full until dinner time. Overall this is a place I recommend to other folks who ask me for an authentic Mexican restaurant.
(5)Jim S.
I've been going to Jalisco for two years and thought it was about time I wrote a review about my favorite Mexican restaurant in Boston. Starting with the basics, there salsa is so good and fresh I could drink it (I love cilantro and they use a lot but if your not a cilantro fan you may not like the salsa). The juevos rancheros is the best I've ever had, served with big, perfectly ripe slices of avocado. My favorite though is the beef Torta (and I've tried them all over) which also includes fresh avocado. The theme of this review is "fresh" and that's Jalisco's strongest quality. It's a family joint and the staff is always friendly and smiles. The only minor complaint I have is the tables are a little small if you're a big guy like me.
(5)Yuval H.
Nothing short of excellent. All home made ! Fresh and delicious. Friendly service. Price is $$ rather than $ and certainly good value per price
(5)Eric R.
There should be a sign at Logan directing people here. Amazing food that should cost more. This will be my go to spot when flying from Logan.
(5)Kathryn V.
Overall we liked the food very much. We had a tamal, three different kinds of tostada, and mole enchilada. The shrimp tostada tasted like shrimp ceviche on a tostada. Delicious! Our only complaint was that most of the food tasted a bit sweet which was slightly offputting. Service was super friendly and accommodating.
(4)Kyrah L.
The food was mediocre at best...but I have some really good Mexican food in Texas which is what i am comparing it to. The meat did not have much flavor although the sauces did help. Staff was very friendly and delivery was super quick.
(3)Lachlan R.
It's okay the food is very good but the actual shop service and presentation efforts need improvement. but all and all it was a great experience
(3)Dan G.
Very small, but very delicious Mexican food. I got enchiladas mole which came with a rice and refried beans. Their food is delicious, that is all I can say. They have a nice variety, and if you are driving in, there is usually parking across the street.
(4)Gen T.
The chips and salsa are really, really good. Disappointed by everything else, though. The tacos had too much meat and not enough salsa/veggies (which might be a good fit if you are Bostonian but not if you come from LA). The meat was also subpar quality, yuck. The horchata was ok, but I've had better. I was expecting more from this place.
(3)Wes H.
Really great simple food here. I got the shrimp fajitas. They were outstanding! The three sauces they brought out with my entrée were all fantastic.
(5)Tim O.
After going here, all other mexican joints in the Boston area seem so lackluster. The food here is just amazing. So authentic. Huge portions. Good prices. The lady that serves the tables is absolutely wonderful as well. The salsas are all homemade and delicious. It's really a shame that it's in East Boston and not more centrally located, but I think that actually adds to some of it's charm. At the very least, it's good enough that I actually make special trips to come here... from Quincy.
(5)Andrew C.
Great service! And even better if you're a regular. Order the guacamole and 2 or 3 tacos and you're good to go. I grew up around the Los Angeles area so my bar for Mexican food is really high. As much as I like this place, I think it suffers from a little Yelpflation. It still deserves a solid 4 stars.
(4)Lindsay G.
Best Mexican Food in Boston. Easy to get to, convenient street parking nearby. Tiny place, so you may have to wait- but so worth it. Great food, great service. I can't wait to go back.
(5)Chelsea C.
I'm from Texas and have been on the hunt for good Mexican food since moving to Massachusetts a year ago. This place is the best! Best enchiladas verdes I have EVER had. By far the best rice and beans I've found at any restaurant north of Texas. The staff is super friendly. I've tried 5 different menu items and loved them all. Definitely my new favorite place.

Best Mexican food I have had in a while. Had 2 tacos and a chimichanga. Everything was great. Perfection sort of. Don't have anything negative to write about. I will be coming again.
(5)Maurice C.
Stopped for a late night meal after picking up my wife from Logan airport. Very good food at very reasonable prices. Friendly staff. We had juevos rancheros and pozole. Much better than most Mexican restaurants in the Boston area.

Very clean dining area and bathroom, and tastefully decorated. A taqueria (which I consider synonymous with small). The woman who served us was THE nicest woman in the world. Very sweet, very patient. I wanted to give her a hug. We were hopping through restaurants in Eastie last night, so I wanted to keep my belly as un-filled as possible. But I found that even with $2 tamales and $2.25 tacos, you will be full. Especially when you order 2 pork/red sauce tamales and 1 lengue taco... Had I had room in my belly, I would have opted for a house special that comes with a healthy side of rice and beans. Had it been morning, I would have ordered the Chilaquiles! Had I thought it through, I would have ordered just one tamal and 2 lengue tacos. The tamal was good, but I think my preference would have been for a cheese + green sauce tamal. Of course, this was not an option. Fine. It was good and steamed fresh. The taco was one perfect taco. Two layers of white corn tortilla, not over-mushed from steam and certainly not too dry -- perfect tortillas. The lengue was properly prepared to melt-in-your-mouth tender (if you've ever had an under-braised beef tongue, you may have had the wrong experience) and taco was simply topped with cilantro and chopped onion. LOVE. The order of guacamole consisted of 3 fresh avocado and a smattering of chopped tomatoes. No lime. Very little to no salt. Traditional. Very nice. Excellent soda selection, including Squirt, grapefruit Jarritos, and this "sangria" soda, which apparently was THE thing to order.... no booze here, though, folks. Lastly, your food is served with a selection of three salsas. Mmm. To get here, I took the blue to Airport and made the pleasant walk through a gorgeous public park (incl bountiful garden), after which it is right around the corner.

Hmmmm . the tacos were good, for me should be a bit spicier, but I like them very very spicy. It was OK. Hoping if I go back and ask for more spice they will really fire it up.
(3)Stephen L.
This place lives up to their reputation. Yes, their tacos might be a bit pricier than others, but it's well worth it, especially with their trio of sauces that come out with them. I have tried their dishes, fried pork and was very satisfied. I must say, one of the best mexican restaurants I have been to in a while.

your only as good as your last dish. last time I went it was a bit mediocre, i was not happy with my tacos. the meat in my tacos were very bland. I have came here several times before. but as far as my last visit it turned me off. Off. I really had a high expectation. its worth a try . they prolly changed cooks? who knows?

Woot! Finally, a place that serves birria in Boston! However, I came on a Wednesday, and they only serve birria on Saturdays and Sundays. So, I will update next time when I actually get to try it. I'd say the prices are just about average; they're not dirt cheap. The pros are: -best horchata I've had in Boston by far! -birria (will comment once I get to try it) -free homemade tortilla chips -tasty homemade salsas (three varieties from mild to spicy!) -chimichangas (deep-fried burritos just rock!) -Mexican sodas and candies (hello Jumex, Pelon Pelo Rico, Mazapan, Vero Mango, etc!) -cute decor -nice staff -tasty tacos As for cons, I would just say that I wish there were more seating. Otherwise, the only thing I could have hoped for would be for the chicken in the tacos to be shredded rather than cubed. I think it would just present itself more nicely that way. Please do yourself a favor and eat here. There's bound to be something you'll like! :)
(5)David K.
This is the no frills, real stuff. Just like a small mom & pop place in So CA. Love it Love it Love it!
(5)Eric W.
Authentic. Simply delicious My friends loved it too Absolutely gonna be back
(5)Gen R.
Came here last night for tacos. Tried the beef tongue and beef tacos, as well as the steak nachos. The nachos were delicious! Each one had the right amount of cheese, beans and steak. I wasn't fumbling around with the toppings trying to get the perfect amount on each nacho, it was already done for me. I appreciated that. The tacos were simply done with onions, cilantro, and meat in little corn tortillas. They were good, though not as tasty to me as the nachos. Overall the food is good and I would go back.
(4)Julia B.
Awesome, authentic and delicious food. Definitely worth the drive from Southie to east boston. Not much seating, so be prepared to wait if it's busy but it's so worth it!
(5)Amie M.
Went here last night with a friend of mine. The restaurant was very easy to find, as was parking. The restaurant itself was the perfect atmosphere; the decorations, the art, the music, even the other patrons. Service was friendly and prompt. Food took a little longer than most places, but wasn't a bad thing since it was freshly made. Started with an order of chips and salsa and the salsa was AMAZING. So good! The chips were delicious as well. I had a steak burrito. It definitely lacked flavoring and the rice was a bit over cooked. My friend had 3 tacos which he said were could but also could have used a bit more flavorings. The homemade trio of salsa that they served with your meal with to die for however. Will definitely return to try something different.

I have spent years, most of my life, searching out quality Mexican food. Growing up in Santa Barbara (best Mexican food in the world) and having moved to Boston at age 20, I realized too late what I had missed, and vowed to check out every Mexican restaurant that opened in Massachusetts -- and I have probably come close to doing so. It was easy at first as they were so few and centrally located, now there are places all over New England. Most are not worth the trouble. Taqueria Jalisco is the best for 'authentic' taqueria-style Mexican food. It is different than Rosa Mexicano or Casa Romero, no margaritas, etc., -- it's a taqueria. But it is very good and the closest I have found on the East Coast to La Super-Rica Taqueria, world's gold standard, yelp.com/biz/la-super-ri…
(5)Gita N.
For Mexican food, this place is good! They are willing to customize vegetarian dishes and the salsa is good! As a texan who loves Mexican food, this is the best I've had in Boston!
(5)Justin S.
Over thirty minutes to get two burritos to go. Ridiculous. Not even that busy inside, six tables.
(1)Jeff G.
Came here on a smokin hot summer day and the owner was such a sight for sore eyes. She brought us over ice water and went over the menu with us. The tacos were packed full of meat and really rich Mexican flavor, very authentic. They even bring over 3 diff kinds of sauces and the spicy guacamole sauce is a must! Hibiscus juice was also super delicious and a must try! Check out their desserts in the fridge, didnt try them but they look good!
(4)K V.
Yes, it's as good as the other reviews have said- well worth the walk from the Embassy Suites where I was staying for a business trip. Got the Camerones a la diabla- they asked if I wanted it spicy and I said "of course!" Make sure you get the salsa condiments as well- good stuff! After finishing with the rice pudding I was left on a satiated daze for a while before heading back. It's a small place with a lot of takeout and delivery going on, but there were plenty of tables and service was good and friendly on a Wednesday night.
(4)Christian B.
TaquerÃa Jalisco offers authentic southwest Mexican food. Everything, from the tacos and enchiladas to the drinks and the tile are totally authentic. Run by very nice people who actually come from the state of Jalisco, you'll get to experience the awesomeness of a mexican home made meal. I had mole enchiladas, along with fresh cream, rice and some beans. Every bit as good as they would be back in Mexico. Simply delicious. Oh and don't waste your time with a coke. Order a Jarritos soda instead, you will not regret it. When I was done with my meal, I indulged in some candy to feed my nostalgia, with Carlos V chocolates and a Paleta Payaso. This is the only place in Boston that will actually take me back home. Being in East Boston, it kinda feels in the middle of nowhere, but getting there is easy if you take the blue line.
(5)Brian S.
Hands down my favorite place for Mexican in Boston. I grew up in Los Angeles in a Mexican immigrant household, so I have a soft spot for delicious Mexican food, but also am critical of places claiming to be authentic. I came here on 2 separate recommendations - one from a high school classmate who now lives in Boston and another from a Yelp Elite. I figured if a foodie and a fellow Mexican are recommending this place, I have to try it. I'm glad I did. Their tacos are amazing - res (beef), pollo (chicken), lengua (tongue), adobada (marinated pork), and cabeza (head). On the weekends you can also get carnitas. I've had the opportunity to try all of them but the head tacos - they're next on my list. The lengua is tender and delicious, and complemented nicely by any of the three salsas you're served with your food. The adobada is one of my favorites - delicious marinated pork similar to an al pastor taco, but more flavorful. The res and pollo are also delicious, flavorful tender meat piled generously into two corn tortillas (the way it should be!). I recommend you make it out here on the weekends, as this is when they get truly authentic with Birria, Menudo, and Pozole on the menu. I haven't had a chance to try them, but when I saw these items on the menu I knew it was a place I'd be returning to; as these items are not usually found in your typical Mexican restaurant that cater to gringos. :) The seafood portion of the menu looks great, with the coctel de camarones catching my eye - I love these at Mexican seafood restaurants in LA. Finally, they have a wide assortment of Mexican beverages - from Mexican coke and Jarritos and other Mexican flavored sodas (including sangria soda and apple soda) along with some of the best horchata I've had and refreshing tamarindo agua fresca. The restaurant itself is a little small, with just a few tables, but the service is amazing. Taqueria Jalisco reminded me of going over to my TÃas' house back in LA - the proprietor was extremely friendly and sweet. I knew this place was a keeper when I walked in and saw a bottle of TapatÃo hot sauce on the counter and Los Bukis playing over the speakers.
(5)Harry D.
This is a phenomenal place in the neighborhood. I didn't realize how amazing and authentic the food was going to taste, it was full of flavor and the place itself was charming . I highly recommend you order the taco combination and chilaqiles.
(5)Rhiannon R.
Amazing food, fresh ingredients, made to order. Wonderful rice & beans, and I love the avocado slices on the side. Friendly staff and fun atmosphere (despite small space).
(5)Sarah S.
This place is a keeper. I split the nachos with cheese and beans and chicken enchiladas. Both were flavorful and delicious. The sides (rice and beans) for the enchiladas were good, although nothing to write home about. The nachos were banging; each layer of chips was covered with beans and cheese so no chip was left naked. Then it was topped with lettuce, sour cream, tomato and avocado and served with three sauces: verde, mole and something spicy. They were tasty on everything and helped to make the dishes even more complete. The service was great; our waitress, who I also assumed owned the place, was very kind and initiated conversation even though we arrived thirty minutes to closing. Prices were also very reasonable and the servings were large and super filling. I will definitely be back.
(4)Alex B.
One of my favorite places to eat in Boston, full stop. And that's not even considering the super reasonable prices. Easily the best Mexican I've had here. Totally worth the T trip from Cambridge for the delicious and authentic food, served up generously by friendly people in a warm and homey atmosphere. Try the posole (weekends only), lengua tacos, and homemade salsas. Everything is flavorful and totally unpretentious. Place is legit.
(5)Tasty Bee Review S.
Jalisco is my most favorite place for Tacos. I've tried tons of tacos, but I really love only Jalisco Tacos. They must have their secret, beacuse it is the most delicious tacos around. They can add cilantro and guacamole at your request. Tacos come with 3 different types of chili sauce. The servers are always very friendly. The disadvantages are: it takes them a long time (about 15-20 min) to make tacos at that place. The atmosphere is a simple Mexican style, but the server said they are re-doing the interior, changing tables for the tiled-ones. Have to see it soon. If you are near Airport T-station, definately should stop for Jalisco Tacos. P.S.: I was there last week, and saw a lot of improvement. Didn't take that long to get tacos.
(5)Mike W.
I lived in Tlaquepaque, A suburb of Guadalajara, and later in Ajijic, Jalisco as a kid in the 70's, and I have longed for the Mexican food I remembered. I have been disappointed at almost every Mexican restaurant I have been to in the northeast. This place was a revelation for me. You might think that a taco is a taco, but there are subtle differences that make the difference between American and real Mexican food. This place brought me back to a time and place when I fell in love with Mexico. The horchata is the best I've ever had, and the spicing and ingredients were totally regional and authentic. The only regret I had is that the server spoke to me in English. Damn, I would have loved to have had to translate for my party and used my rusty Spanish without feeling pretentious. Do yourself a favor and find this place if you want a taste of Jalisco. Also, order the horchata. It's a revelation here.
(5)Lisa A.
Authentic! Coming from a Mexican! Love this place. Hard to find good mexican places in Boston but this is one you can't go wrong with! Chip n salsa yummmm!! Tacos , tortas must try. Carnitas! Birria! Horchata!! Luv it!
(5)Josiane B.
This is my all time favorite mexican spot in MA (spoken by a Mexican). Their agua de horchata is pure perfection and their enchiladas taste just like my mothers. I've had better burritos at Chipotle but everything else is to die for. I've gotten so many friends and family members hooked to this place. This is a huge MUST TRY.
(5)Linda C.
Hands down the best authentic tacos in Boston! I'm from the west coast and found El Pelon Taqueria to be a huge disappointment. Their guacamole was green water. Their tortillas always fell apart and their salsa wasn't even salsa. Jalisco serves it right like they do in L.A.. The meat tastes super grilled, tasty, and the sauces are nice and hot! The tacos are so loaded in flavor that they're worth the drive to east boston! This is THE place for delicious carne asada tacos made by REAL Mexicans.
(5)Zac M.
I'm from Austin, and thus incredibly picky about my Mexican, and I approve. I will definitely be back to get my taco fix.
(5)Guillermo M.
The food is amazing in this place, very authentic. We tried the tacos and they were delicious. If they used tortillas that were not 5 de Mayo it would even be better. Would love to try their menudo and pozole.
(4)Christina R.
This is a place to go for genuine service, great food and a solid experience. As a southern Californian, this has felt closest to home so far. Good menudo, posole, tacos, and the beans are bomb. Bring a small group as this place is small. Bravo!
(5)Don M.
I really enjoyed the food here. The woman who waited on us was very friendly, explained the food items, gave suggestions. If I am back in the area, this is where I will be. HUGE Guac portion.
(4)lisa g.
Luv Luv Luv'd...great service, great food...All three of us californians were Very happy. Little expensive but worth it... PS Must try to cantaloupe juice, made from scratch with chunks of cantaloupe Small Dive worth it
(5)Jeff O.
Excellent tacos, especially the beef tongue (lengua). Atmosphere is a bit office building-y, but you come for the food: huge ridiculous burritios; gargantuan plates of guacamole; house-made aguas frescas (try the melon or the tamarind); and -- oh yes -- the tacos.
(4)Clyde L.
I just happened to come across this place in East Boston. I had the tacos special and they were hands down the best I have had in Boston and I love Mexican food. I cannot wait to go back! My friend had a chicken mole enchilada and it was fantastic. Service was fast and friendly. The place is small, very clean but not fancy. Five stars for the food.
(5)Michael C.
Clean, pleasant, music but not blaring, very pleasant friendly staff and that is before the food. Get the tongue tacos and Burria on weekends. Homemade drinks are great pineapple or tamarind.
(5)D P.
Terrible food. Nice people.
(1)Kemberli P.
YUM! Pretty loud in there with the music, full house and small space but it's a mom and pop, small Mexican restaurant, I pretty much expect that for delicious & authentic Mexican! Tacos were delicious. Husband got the chimichanga...pretty sure it was as big as his head. HUGE! And absolutely delicious - he got the shredded beef inside - so good. My taco with the shredded beef was my favorite, too. Also get free chips with a delicious, home-made salsa. Not spicy. So good! All meals come with three salsa's. Service was great, as well - full water cups and attentive waitress. Food came out really quick. Go here. Now.
(5)J D.
Having eaten Mexican fare in California and Arizona for 20 years I never expected to find a great Mexican restaurant 2 miles from Logan Airport. Great food, very clean, friendly and good service. I had a tamal and 2 street tacos that were as good as they get. Dinner for $8.10..how can you beat that. If you want great authentic Mexican food this is a terriffic place to go. Don't miss it.
(5)Dev C.
Great portions and very authentic flavors. And that's before you account for how cheap it is. Ordered the tamales-- very big, very yummy. Also, several tacos-- meat was delicious, homemade tortillas were great. The lady serving was the absolute sweetest, and also tried some of my friends' enchiladas-- very tasty. Made the trek there 100% worthwhile, and we'll be making mexican monday a monthly thing.
(5)Will L.
Tiny hole-in-the-wall in Eastie serves the best traditional Mexican food in the Boston area. Burrito Mojado and Pozole are two of my favorites.
(5)Patricia S.
The absolute best Mexican restaurant in all of Boston!!!! But I wish the location was bigger.
(5)Ricardo B.
Me and my wife we are both from Mexico, we grew there. We have heard about the flavor and popularity of this place and finally we drove there to try it. AWESOME!!!! 5 + stars Food: Pozole (Only on the weekends), Tostada de Pollo, Tamal de Puerco... Drinks: Agua de Jamaica, Agua de Pina The Best Mexican Restaurant that I have visited here in Boston... Oooh my mouth is watering.... Definetly a place to visit. spices, salsas, really good.
(5)Zack G.
Hands down best Mexican food in the Boston area. Authentic Mexican food approved by this authentic Californian Mexican. Worth renting a zip car just to get there and experience the tastes that are heavenly.
(5)Jerry T.
Finally, REAL MEXICAN FOOD!!!!!!!!! This place hits all high marks in my book-- great food, great service, clean....etc etc. Defiantly one of the few great mexican joints in Boston!
(5)Travis D.
4 stars for the carne asada with beans and rice, minus 1 star for the intestinal repercussions an hour later.
(3)M -dot W.
Tacos AL Pastor are the truth here !!! Takes me back to my days in Mexico :) , even though I never lived there...thats how good they are !! The homemade cilantro sauce adds a nice flavor.. this is where alot of locals come to get their mexican fix...and there is reason why .. its the BOMMBB !
(5)Erick T.
I have been up and down the east coast with mostly disappointing results when it comes to findings a little piece of home style Mexican cooking. Finally I've found it in a place! I came on a Sunday and had the Birria (really good). My friends had the posole (also really good). I will be back! : I went back I have to say the tacos are allight...I think I would stick to Annas taqueria for that.
(5)Rebecca O.
Love the salsa and the tacos. Their tostada's are great at well. The food is super fresh!
(5)Kathia D.
For the price, quality & quantity of food @ Jalisco there isn't a better mexican place(in the Boston area). I can only speak for the beef burritos, taco, rice, beans, rice pudding [must be hot] & tres-leche cake. All DELICIOUS!! Beef is well seasoned and juicy. Corn tortillas - FTW! It's a shame there are not more corn tortillas in Eastie. If you want an authentic & tasty Mexican meal you wont be disappointed.
(4)Line B.
I had the tacos with re-fried rice. They were cheap but the taste was the opposite. They were exquisite and what I would expect of true Mexican Tacos. I especially liked their homemade cilantro sauce, they did have to other sauces to choose from. I bit out of the way but still doable since it only is a few blocks away from a T-stop. If you really are in for a Mexican treat then Rosticeria Jalisco is the right place to go even if it is a bit out of the way.
(4)R B.
The service alone would get this place 5 stars. Incredible nice and helpful people. Huge amount of delicious food, and inexpensive. If you don't get the horchata, get the tamarind beverage (not as sweet as the bottled version). Small place, lots of families. I would have been happy with just the rice and beans. One of my dinner companions said "I could have one of these tamales everyday." Flan also got a thumbs-up. Looking forward to going back for the posole in cooler weather.
(5)Jose N.
Great place. Come here at least once a month and as an authentic Mexican, this is as close to mamá's cooking as I can hope for. Two thumbs up.
(5)Busy L.
Great Mexican food in E. Boston. Great authentic food.
(5)Alysson A.
It's hard to find a good authentic Mexican restaurant here in Boston. I REALLY recommend this one. It's small, but cozy, and the food is amazing. My favorite plates are the enchiladas en mole and the huevos con chorizo for breakfast.
(5)frank b.
Jalisco is the best! Great menu, fantastic service, phenomenal food. It's small, but I've never not gotten a seat. The menu is extensive - I'm embarrassed to say that I've never gotten anything but the tacos; they're that good! I've tried most of the meats in them: carnitas is my favorite, birria is a close second. The woman who runs Jalisco is a sweetheart - very friendly and very helpful with menu questions. The homemade chips and salsa are fantastic also. You'll wait a little while for your food because everything is made to order but, believe me, the wait is well worth it. Finally, it's surprisingly easy to get to despite being in East Boston. A quick detour from I-93 via the Callahan or Ted Williams tunnel. I can't wait to go back!
(5)Mcslimj B.
Excellent traditional Mexican joint in a city with very few of them: great tacos and superb weekend specialty soups. Exploring a new restaurant is like baseball: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains. My TaquerÃa Jalisco rainout was a Tuesday, its regular day off. Fortunately, my other visits got me humming "Dirty Water" -- it's a champion with especially fine tacos ($1.75). They boast the correct double layer of soft corn tortillas, generously filled with meat and simply dressed with chopped onions, fresh cilantro, and lime. The uniformly delicious, tender fillings include lengua (diced beef tongue); rez (shredded beef); pollo (chunks of marinated grilled chicken breast); rich, slightly gamy cabeza (chopped beef cheek); and adobada (chunks of pork loin in a vinegary, bright-red chili marinade). Excellent by themselves, they're nearly perfect once dotted with three amazing fresh table salsas: a bright-green one of fresh tomatilloes, avocado, and jalapeños (fiery); a yellow-green one of cooked tomatilloes and chilies (tangy); and a brown one of cooked tomatoes, chili de árbol, and myriad spices (as complex as mole). Three tacos in a combination plate ($7.50) with excellent chunky refried pinto beans, annatto-tinged rice, and an undressed salad of lettuce, tomatoes, and radishes add up to a gorgeous, filling example of budget Mexican. Pollo rostÃzado (rotisserie chicken, $5.50/quarter; $7.50/half; $13.50/whole) is juicy, flavorful, and similarly satisfying with accompaniments of rice, beans, guacamole, grilled onions, and corn tortillas. Seafood plates boast skillful grilling or frying and clear flavors, like camarones al mojo de ajo ($11), a half-dozen grilled tail-on jumbo shrimp with a garlicky dipping sauce, two kinds of rice, and a salad of avocado and tomatoes. Breakfast platters are served all day, like fine huevos rancheros ($7.50), fried eggs on tortillas topped with a tomato/chili sauce plus rice, beans, and avocado. Weekends feature astonishing specialties like bÃrria ($9), a brick-toned, complex stew of many chilies and beef served with tortillas and onions. Another is pozole ($9), a soup of pork and hominy kernels in a chile-tinted chicken stock that one garnishes, pho-like, with shredded cabbage, radishes, oregano, and fried tortilla pieces. Menudo ($7/small; $9/large) is a fiery, blood-red stew loaded with squares of beef tripe that the fearless can garnish with extra garlic, oregano, and dried chilies. Drinks include excellent cinnamon-rich horchata ($2) and Mexican fruit sodas ($1.75). Overall, Jalisco a standout in a neighborhood with multiple worthy Mexican (but usually actually Salvadoran) options, and one of the best traditional Mexican restaurants in Greater Boston.
(5)Mike J.
DELICIOUS tacos at a bargain basement price ( $1.75 each ) - plus much much more but I only tried the tacos ( and spanish rice and refried beans which were also yummy). Only a few minutes from a T-stop, this place gives you a freshly-made sauce trio in bowls to use at your discretion ( a green, a red and a brown ) and has a friendly staff. My only disappointment during my time at TJ's was that their horchata was not homemade. :-(
(4)Zack W.
Recently moved to the Boston area from Cali and found that his place is my favorite so far. I told my wife I had to find a comparable Mexican food restaurant before I move to MA... with that being said, Taqueria Jalisco was the final factor that made me pull up my roots from Cali. I honestly debated whether or not I should post a review because I didn't want more people to find out about this fantastic hole in the wall (4 tables) Taqueria. But all in all I couldn't help posting how much I enjoy this place... I am also a little biased because the lady that works there used to have Mexican restaurant in Cali, and she is a sweetheart.
(5)Kuidaore Sensei X.
Just about the most legit Mexican I've found in Boston. Go here and leave happy or go somewhere else and wish you came here.
(5)Rosa T.
As a Mexican and a native Californian, I have been dying to find good Mexican food that did not come from my kitchen, and Taqueria Jalisco is it! WE tried the quesdillas Jalisco, a taco de cabeza and lengua, and a torta de adobada and everything was great! They bring out a trio of salsas which vary in their level of spiciness, but they are all tasty! A must for people to check out. I can guarantee that you will be back!
(5)Borris C.
A Mexican friend told me to try this place. She takes her grandparents here when they visit from Mexico, and they love it. The food is fresh and delicious and the ingredients are authentic. The staff is hard-working and cheerful, and they seem so genuinely happy when customers are happy. It's a tiny place and many people order take-out. Because they cook just about everything to order, the wait for food can be longer than you'd expect for this type of restaurant, especially on the weekend when they're very busy, but it is definitely worth the wait. Try the nachos - the sauces and beans are great and they use real Mexican cheese which is salty and creamy and unlike anything you'll find in a Tex Mex place. Truly a hidden gem.
(5)Heidi B.
Delicious! Very authentic Mexican food. Refried beans awesome as were the bowl of chips delivered to the table. Homemade salsa, very fresh. Enchiladas came with a choice of 5 different sauces. The verde was very tasty-there was also a spicier verde option as well. Tacos were delicious with several meat choices. Delicious pork as well.
(5)Russ P.
This is a true, hidden gem! They have the most authentic Mexican food in Boston and believe me, I would know. I love the breakfasts here. My favorite is the eggs with chorizo. You get the best tortillas served with delicious rice and very tasty refried beans. The staff is friendly and the place is immaculate. You really should give this place a try! And take home some Gansitos for dessert!
(5)Lisa T.
I rarely write reviews. But as I sit here on a Saturday night waiting for my delivery of wonderful, delicious food, I feel compelled. I ate at the storefront restaurant last Saturday - and have been anxious to return ever since! I had an adobada taco (flavorful, HUGE, delightful) as a "starter" and then the camarones al cilantro (shrimp in a cilantro cream sauce with rice, tomatoes, and avocado and a side of tortillas) and it was AMAZING. Seven (yes 7) large butterflied shrimp in a delicious creamy sauce with fresh cilantro. I made tacos out of them with the tortillas, avocado, and tomato, slathering on the fresh salsa they also provide at the table. YUM. I have eaten south american/mexican food all over - Cali, Seattle, Mexico, Boston, Guatemala - and this is some of the freshest and best. Yay!
(5)Melissa B.
FINALLY!! Fabulous Mexican Food in Boston, yes, it exists. However, there are only 7 tables waited on by the sweetest woman in the world. Three types of salsa are served ~ one with avocado! Plus, she brought me a 4th one that was a special maximum hot, fire smoky, ahhh. No margaritas, but homemade pineapple and cantelope juices beat sugar and alcohol any day! The food is meticulously prepared and presented. Nothing is grossly deep fried. Chips are served warm. Shrimp are gigantic. Avocados are plentiful. Mole sauce is thick and sweet, like how I make it. All the food is like home made from my friends who were relocated up to the US for work, actually. Ahhhhh the salsas, bring me more!!! Oh, they even take Amex.

Reviews here seem to be based off of the Inexpensive nature of the food and value based on volume paid. Sorry quality is the botton line and the quality is average, portions huge, service friendly, parking easy, little light on chicken on the chicken burrito but acceptable def could be more. No chips came with it. The rice tasted along with the beans standard like anywhere else to be honest Angela's Cafe had better quality on that front but you needed a microscope to find the chicken unfortunately for them.In Summary: potential for an all around five star could be there but to be fair you start with quality not with friendly srevice and cheap prices for huge volume of food. charge me one more dollar or 1.50 more but give me quality and a little more chicken then were talking. If your local maybe make it part of your mix personaly I wish these kind people well but not going back

I stopped here to eat on the way back from Logan, and man am I glad that I did. I ordered the verde carnitas burrito, and my girlfriend ordered a vegetarian burrito. Wow were they good. They used whole pieces of avocado, very good refried beans, and they even put the burritos on the plancha--i.e., they took the finished burrito and cooked it panini-melt style to brown the tortilla. The other striking thing about this place is the green salsa that comes with your order. It's some kind of cilantro based sauce, and has this fantastic flavor that's unlike any other sauce I've ever had so I'm not even sure why I'm trying to describe it. You'll have to taste it for yourself.

I am from california but currently live in r.i I stumbled into this place by chance. I was on my way to drop off my parents to the airport but wanted to get a bite to eat before they left. I looked on my gps to see what was available and this caught my eye. Man oh man was i in for a treat! i had the adobo tacos with rice and beans, and it was out of control GOOD! with the 3 salsas to choose from i was in heaven. My son had the pozole and it was great! And they have Horchata which was delish!!!! its a must try, i will drive 1 1/2 again to eat there.

Birria (a stew, made with beef here) made into tacos, a pork torta, and and half an avocado would be a feast for two, or would feed three with a lighter appetite for $14. Good selection of salsas. Like a lot of places, not everything on the menu is a hit, so you might have to explore.

I have to go here for the half chicken plate or the pozole every few weeks. The chicken is cooked on a rotisserie and served with grilled onions, beans, rice, and a healthy side of guacamole, along with 5-6 warm tortillas. They give you three different homemade hot sauces, one of which is heavy on the chipotle and is highly addicting. It's a huge meal for a very decent price. The pozole is a big bowl of chili-infused broth, hominy, and chunks of pork, often with a pig knuckle thrown in for added flavor. It's served with fried tortillas, radish, onion, and dried chilis and oregano. It's got just the right amount of heat and is incredibly flavorful. Only problem is, it's only served on weekends. I can't say that these are the only highlights of the menu, but they're so good that it's been hard for me to order anything else.

The quest continues... for the ultimate Taco. Since I had an appointment in Revere I decided to look for some Tacos on the North side of Boston, knowing there is a sizable population of mexicans and centro-americans in the area. Via yelp I found TJ and decided to check it out. My wife and I went in on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Place was very busy and it looked like we were the only norteamericanos there. The place is very pleasant, with 4-6 tables and some bar seating at the wall. The service was great and we learned a little about the place from one of the owners. The menu was pretty strait-forward mexican fare. I had the taco plate (carnitas) 3 tacos, rice, RF beans. It was very, very good. Tortillas were nicely warmed with a bit of toasting, cilantro and onion were up to spec, and the carnitas were tasty. A solid taco. Enjoyed the RF beans also. My wife ordered a carne w/ chile, chooseing the salsa verde over the salsa roja. It was excellent- chucks of carnitas (pork) swimming in a mild tomatillo sauce - muy rica!!. I enjoyed a horchata on the rocks also. Always a nice touch with a spicy meal. The highlight was their sauces. They bring out 3 with the meal: a traditional red, smoky salsa - this was pure heaven in a bowl- spicy but not fiery with a rich smoky flavor. A green salsa was made with avocado and jalepeno - really nice, unique, and not too hot. The third - I can't remember exactly but it was good. I smoothered my tacos with the red sauce - man was that good. Prices were good, not cheap cheap, but good. Spanish is helpful but not necessary. TJ is defiinately one f the nicest mexican places we've tried in the greater boston area. The quest continues....

FOOD CRAWL PART III: As explained in my reviews of Angela's and Rincon Limeno, 17 of us pooled $20 apiece and stopped at different restaurants until we ran out of cash. We were running a little low on funds, so decided to hit up the cheapest place on our itinerary - Taqueria Jalisco! For tacos at $1.75 a pop, it's hard to go wrong anyway, but these tacos were out of control. You could pick from grilled beef, chicken, pork, tongue, or brains (being ever so unadventurous, i went with the grilled beef), but they came with 3 different sauces to try, pico de gallo with a kick, and 2 tortillas per taco so they didn't get soppy. If this place were closer to the city of Boston, they would be constantly mobbed, and I think I would need to move next door just so I could have these tacos whenever I wanted. Between the 17 of us we tried every kind of taco except for the brains, and we were all thrilled by how authentic and how flavorful the tacos were for their tiny price tag. I can't wait to go back!
