I came for the cheese. That's as simple as it gets... the sign in the window lured me in. They had *burrata* which I just happened to be in the North End seeking. $12.99 seemed a bit pricey for an 8+oz ball of milk, but Salumeria Italiana was out of it for the year (till next summer) and I had passed a beautiful pile of beefsteak tomatoes in the Haymarket (75 cents for two large beauties!). Wrapped in fake green leaves, the burrata was imported from Italy and had just arrived yesterday.

This shop is a fabulously clean, tidy and friendly place to buy many, fine imported Italian Cheeses and cold cuts. Even though it is fairly small in size, you will find the shelves packed with the finest specialty items like San Marzano Tomatoes, dried Porcini, fancy Tuna, Italian Olive Oils, Vinegars and much more. This is THE place for a scrumptious Italian Sub so don't miss it. Pass by the tourist joints across from Haymarket Station, and walk two short blocks to Fresh Cheese. You will be rewarded with sandwiches and ingredients that will make you come back here every time you are in the North End.

Best Gouda ever! I am addicted! Five stars for the cheese at The Cheese Shop! The guys behind the counter might intimidate some but they are actually quite nice. If you know what you want, grab a little taste and get what you need. If you want to try something new, let them know what you need and they will make suggestions. For the host, hostess who loves cheese, I strongly suggest serving up the Gouda and the Huntsmann at your next gathering. Enjoy!

How do I know this is the best italian sub in the north end? 1. I asked the guys at the fire station where to get the best italian sub in the north end. 2. I ate one. (or rather, I split one with my gf, these things are HUGE.) The best chewiest bread, thinly-sliced fresh deli meat, and lots of veggies, including an insane amount of jalapenos (who knew?). Delish. Be prepared, when you ask for "everything" the guy behind the counter gives you a funny look, like they never heard that before. You may also have to wait a while because they work very s l o w l y. But worth it. Next time I will try the prosciutto, it looked awesome. Oh, and they don't wear food prep gloves and they ring the register after taking your order - which adds to the flavor!

Good Italian sub! Liked mine a lot...tasty bread and vegetables and, a large portion of deli meat! The staff is also very friendly! While the price of the sub might not seem cheap, the size is really like TWO large subs to more than make up for it (just don't expect it to be for one meal...).

Best. Italian. Subs. Ever. If you want the real deal, check this place out. Fresh ingredients, HUGE subs. It's amazing. They also have a nice selection of Italian groceries. But I come for the subs.

I stumbled upon this little place with a friend. The guy working was very helpful and friendly to describe the different sausages he had for sale. I was trying to make some last minute paella and wanted a sausage with spice to it, and the one he recommended was delicious. This place doesn't have a huge selection, but I will be back here as I think this place proves quality is better than quantity.

Hungry in the North End and asked a local senior citizen where the best sandwiches were. She pointed me here. She was right!! Looks like a little tiny cheese shop, but easily the best sandwich i have had in a long time. Get a special salami. Great cheese. Lots of great veggies on the sandwich including a kind of chopped red pepper relish. And cheap!!! I'm coming back for sure

My first panic attack ordering something happened here. The Prosciutto de parma sub, when asked what I wanted on it, I said everything. The look that came back across the counter was frightening. Needless to say it was one of the best sub/sandwiches I have ever devoured. It's reasonably priced for the quality of the product too. A must stop. Just treat it like the soup nazi of cheese shops when you order.

This shop is tiny. I am not exaggerating. You walk in and it's kind of like being in a large closet, but the walls are packed. I've lived in the North End over a year and I wish I had known about this place sooner. Everytime I have wanted a nice cheese to go with my wine, or wanted something special for my sandwiches, I've had to haul my ass up to the Beacon Hill Whole Foods. Prices are reasonable and the quality of their products is great. I'll be back. Often.
