TASTY TREATS FOR A GREAT PRICE! I work around the area and my coworker recommended this place for their bread. I've been here a handful to times and haven't gotten the bread (yet), but I have tried a bunch of their sweet treats. Their prices are great...compared to the North End - probably half to a third cheaper. Here's what I've tried, and check the pics I've posted to go along with this: - Cream cheese danish ($1) - it's good, but there could be a little more cream cheese. The danish part is soft and has a drizzle of frosting on it. - Assorted cookie bag ($1) - 7 cookies. The blue sprinkled egg shaped cookies ARE SO GOOD. They are a little soft, not what I would have expected based on the type of cookie, but it is only that much better. And sprinkles only make it better. The pink cookie half covered in chocolate is SO FLAVORFUL. I didn't expect much from just looking at it but it's packed with flavor. There is also a chocolate covered cookie with a jellybean on top. - Chocolate croissant ($1.25) - large crescent shaped croissant filled with milk chocolate. This croissant is bigger and cheaper than Starbucks' chocolate croissant, which is fantastic...more bang for your buck. Also, the chocolate is creamier...like it's not a hard chocolate since it's been melted into the croissant. - Apple scone type treat ($1.25) - I don't know the name of this, and couldn't pronounce it for you after hearing the woman say it. It looks like a calzone, but it has a fruit filling inside. The calzone shell is a pretty hearty cookie, not flaky like an apple turnover shell. - Canolli ($1) - haven't tried these but my friends say they are good. BOTTOM LINE: If you're in the area, and have a hankering for something sweet, stop by A & L. It's a nice small bakery with great prices. I want to try the black and white (75 cents) and their other cookie (50 cents) that's probably a little smaller than my hand.

I love A&L. Super friendly service and great cannollis at a cheap price. My fave cannolis are still from Mikes, but A&L is my go-to whenever I need a fix. They are admirably comparable. I'm also a fan of the little sprinkled round cookies that taste like trix cereal.

This place ROCKS !.... This italian lady has been baking pastries , cookies and pizza for the East Boston people for many many years !!! I had the pizza that she has and it was REALLY good. She sells coffee too. I would recommend anyone that wants a nice feel of Eastie back in the italian days to step in here. EVERYONE SHOULD SUPPORT this local bakery because there are many places that have been closing !! Its nice to be able to buy from a local bakery ! Help her stay open and support a local business

Love the cannolis and pastries. Prices are less than 1/2 what you'd pay in the north end and the cannolis are just as good. Also great pizza!

Ditch Mikes and Modern Pastry and head over to A&L in Eastie. I would say their quality is just as good if not better ( especially better than Mikes!) than the North End bakery. Buy a few canoli's and then take a stroll in Piers Park and take in the breathtaking views of down town Boston. You will be glad that you found this hidden gem!

I have been a customer at this bakery for over 20 years now. It's remained consistently wonderful in many ways from the quality of their products to the customer service. I now have four little ones who love a sweet treat and A&L is very affordable. We purchase our baked goods and walk over to Piers Park to enjoy. The lady who owns the bakery is hard working and a lovely person.

Awesome pizza ! Been coming since I was a kid ! Prices haven't changed ! 85 cents for a slice, 60 cents for a can of soda ! The best ! The little old lady is so nice !

Awesome place with great brownies. I bought cookies for co-workers, breakfast for myself, and a few desserts for my wife and son... all for $13. Awesome small business, deserves your support and patronage. Its like the good old days are still here.

Fantastic old school bakery! It's like talking a step back in time going in. The prices are so cheap. You can get a small brownie tray for $2.50 or huge cookies for $1. Their Italian bon bons are the best ever. Most of the cookies are sold by the pound. I love their big chocolate chunk cookies. The lemon squares are tasty too. They have the big bakery slices of pizza. There is a table with imported desserts and beverages from Italy, great for gifts. The Italian lady that runs this place is sweet. It's always stocked full of yummy goodies!
