I was on my way back home and was going to indulge by purchasing a malted vanilla shake at Kimball's - instead I chose to stop at Bedford Farms. I got in line behind a woman that ordered half the menu and the half that takes the longest to make...I eventually did order my malted vanilla shake and I was not very happy from the first sip. The one I tasted at Kimball's was a little thicker and a lot less sweet. This malted was soooo sweet that it made me feel sick after having about 1/3rd of it...very disappointed - I am sure the ice cream by itself is good, but this item will not make me stop next time - sorry bedford farms.

Delicious! I recently went here with my mother, sister, and hubs. All enjoyed these wonderful treats!

  • Laurie D.

I love that Bedford Farms usually has ginger ice cream - it's not the easiest flavor to find, especially a rich, creamy blend. The ginger here has plenty of crystallized ginger pieces. The kiddie size is fine, but I always seem to get a much larger one and can't think of a better lunch or dinner!!!

  • Joe S.

Most, if not all of their ice cream is made by Richardson's. I don't know why they have to lie and imply that it's homemade. Actually it's just a fib, they call it "homemade style" not "homemade". Whatever.

  • Andrea C.

I love your purple cow chips frozen yogurt forever.

    (5)
  • Marissa R.

Delicious ice cream and a large variety of flavors. Just wish there was someplace to sit other than next to the parking lot. Definitely worth driving to though!

  • Brian S.

Ice cream as big as your head. Made from real ingredients. Friendly staff. Just off the end of the Minuteman Trail.

    (5)
  • Tamar S.

The ice cream is fine, and the portion generous, but it's a $1 more than Sullivan farms (my favorite place) and they won't split a scoop here into two flavors. I had a kid cone of green monster.

  • dan w.

No problem with the ice cream. Very good. Not great. But some (not all) of the girls behind the counter are just unfriendly. They clearly don't want to be there and they let you know it. The 'tude needs to go. Management should address this issue with the staff. Getting ice cream should be a happy event.

    (3)
  • Shannon D.

Delicious ice cream with ridiculous portion sizes. Super friendly servers too!

Was visiting Bedford and couldn't miss this neighborhood spot. I highly recommend the moose tracks!

  • M A.

I went there this weekend and was looking to satisfy my chocolate fix. I got the chocolate chunky pudding, which was pretty good, with the exception of the brownies are on the stale side. very thick and rich ice cream. expensive for a small cup, 4.50- minus one star good portion. did not see any benches anywhere or seats. I sat in my car and ate.

Best Ice Cream in the World. I have been coming here since I was 12. It is very close to the bike path and very easy to get to. The small is not a small, it's HUGE!!! I have yet had a flavor that I do not like, but if I had to Choose, the moose track is super good. 12 years later and I still can't order anything larger than a small. Trust me it is big

New England is home to some great ice cream shops. This is rich and creamy, farm fresh ice cream! And they have tons of flavors to choose from. I had my favorite - coffee ice cream! Portions are great. The perfect summer treat.

    (4)
  • Andrew R.

One thing about New England is that there is no stortage of roadside ice cream stands. They are a summer tradition, and Bedford Farms is one of the best. There's nothing fancy about this place; you wait in lines in a parking lot, there aren't many places to sit, and sometimes the mosquitoes can be vicious, but the ice cream is well worth it. The basic flavors like chocolate and vanilla are awesome and anything but boring. There are also plenty of other choices that are more complex. The frappes are really good as well. The service is fast and friendly, and this place is a must visit for any homemade ice cream lover.

    (5)
  • Ryan T.

$4.10 buys you an absolute MOUNTAIN of ice cream. I needed a shower after attempting (and failing) to finish one.

    (4)
  • Lauren H.

Old school, homemade ice cream stand. Very large selection of flavors. On the pricey side for an ice cream cone, but worth it.

    (4)
  • Stephanie W.

Hands down the best ice cream, and I'm not even a local. Had the Green Monster and Muddy River, both were excellent! Can't go wrong with any flavor really!!

    (5)
  • Marilyn T.

It's a bit out there, but peanut butter frozen yogurt is worth the drive! I always bought the gallon to bring back into Boston :P

    (4)
  • Brian W.

Outstanding ice cream pies, with tasty toppings, incredibly dense filling, and amazing graham cracker crust - and I don't usually like graham cracker. Wow. The things are so dense they could probably sit out in the summer sun for a day and not melt. I can't stop eating it. Please, someone help me! And then the ice cream cones - let's just say that the small ain't small - no way. It's BIG. And the ice cream is stuffed with lots of whatever it needs to be stuffed with. They're not holding back - they're giving you the real deal here folks. Which is why everyone from nuns in habits to bikers in black leather show up here.

  • Paulina S.

Best ice cream I ever had! Live down the street from Bedford Farms. I can honestly say that my fiance and I have been here once a week during the summer. We have been renovating our house and we always take a break at Bedford Farms. I'm very sad their are closed for the winter :(

    (5)
  • Paul B.

Excellent ice cream, with a wide variety of flavors. Everybody in my family gets the 'kiddie' size, which seems large to us. There is hardly any place to sit.

    (5)
  • Anna N.

This place is overhyped. It has a good selection of flavors, but don't expect anything spectacular, worthy of 5 star rating. I enjoyed my supersized "small" scoop and will probably be back again on a hot day. This is a solid neighborhood ice cream outlet. However, if you are in the mood for some quality gourmet ice cream, that's not the right venue.

    (3)
  • Court S.

Great homemade ice cream. There are a bunch of cool flavors to choose from like pumpkin to frozen pudding. I ordered black raspberry which was delicious, sweet and creamy. The line looks long from afar but don't be fooled, it passes quickly. $4.50 for one scoop, but one scoop is huge and seems more like 2-3 scoops. Outdoor seating only with a few tables and chairs. Plenty of parking. Up the street from Marshalls and Whole Foods. Staff is sweet and friendly like the ice cream.

    (5)
  • Susan W.

Really wanted to love it when I first moved here and tried it more than once, but I just kept getting stuck with a bench next to the trash which made my first experience hard to go back. Then on a week night my family went back and the restaurant next door has a strong smell that I could smell from my car. Ice cream is not too bad but I guess I will have to take it home to actually enjoy it.

    (3)
  • Hillary D.

Great ice cream and frozen yogurt (mint patty is my favorite). Prices have gone up over the years, but you still get quite a bit for your money. They give back to the community, which I appreciate.

    (4)
  • Bob P.

Excellent taste and large servings for the price. A lot of flavors to choose from, as well as gallons prepared (with only a few flavors pre-packed). A very New England-y experience. Lacks sufficient seating and what there is isn't great. A bit dangerous for the kids with the people milling in the parking lot, though drivers do seem to move with great care. For a dazzling countryside ice cream experience, though, drive a bit farther to Kimball Farm in Littleton (not the one in Carlisle which is about as good as Bedford Farms but merely with slightly better seating).

    (4)
  • Aaron B.

This is ice cream!! Lots of flavors, huge portions, mabie even to big. Delicious This is a great icecream stop. In the summer there are 5 out door service windows. Lively young staff willing to help. There are a ton of flavors and save your self the time and money JUST GET KIDDIE SIZE. It's huge. Enough for 2 normal humans or 1 starving kid. Highly recommend.

    (5)
  • Danielle R.

I truly missed this gem of a spot! Great ice cream, fantastic hours (open in the winter), great atmosphere (everyone eats ice cream in the bed of their truck) and amazing customer service (they opened up once just so I could buy an ice cream cake). I moved to Texas and was just reminiscing about stopping there after a long day at work! Really miss me some Bedford Farms!!!

    (5)
  • Phil C.

Bedford Farms is one of those great local joints that has wonderful ice cream at reasonable prices. The portions are quite large. I love their mud pie (coffee ice cream, chocolate swirls, and oreo cookie) as it is a combination of things that I love. The great part about the ice cream here is that it's not cloy or too sweet. So you don't need to drink a gallon of water afterward. The ubiquitous high school girl staff you see at a lot of these local ice cream joints is here as well. They're generally pretty good, though sometimes they show some inexperience. There's not a lot of chairs/benches to sit, unfortunately.

    (5)
  • Edward H.

Good service, great ice cream. Only problem is limited shaded places to enjoy the good eats.

    (4)
  • M L.

I grew up eating this ice cream every summer and they will forever be my favorite ice cream stand. They have a mind boggling array of flavors, and the ones I'ved tried are all delicious. Be warned that their portions are huge. The "small" could easily be a sweet dinner! This is a family-run place, and they hire a lot of Bedford High School students.

    (5)
  • Christine H.

I swear that the person who decided the portion sizes is of Italian and/or Sicilian dessert. If you want homemade ice cream that tastes homemade, if you want to get a GREAT value for your money (in terms of quality and quantity) and you want to take home a pint or quart of their ice cream for later, then you have found your dream ice cream stand. Sure, the lines are long (but you DO want them to stay in business, don't you)? and the parking space is small (park on the other side and walk over, or if you're close a 10-20 minute walk can help justify the ginormous amount of ice cream you're about to put in your belly) but this is about the taste, the texture, the way you feel after eating so much (not quite so sick as you would eating that much of Friendly's or DQ) and the DELICIOUS FLAVORS. Green Monster! Peanut Butter Cup! Heck even just the vanilla fudge swirl is good. The sundaes are yummy (I suspect that the hot fudge is made with unicorn tears) and the frappes are huge and thick. I've said enough - now you must go, without passing Go and collecting $200 (sorry) to Bedford Farms and experience ice cream heaven.

  • Brittany O.

The Sweet and Salty ice cream hit the spot. This is a great little spot with a lot of different soft and hard ice cream flavors. Their hard ice creams are very unique and sounded delicious!

    (5)
  • Aibo H.

"Is this kiddie size?" "Yes, it's kiddies size." I wasn't the only one who asked this question to the staff. I've heard two other custumers just behind me asked the same question. The portion of their kiddies size is really huge, just like everyone raved. It's real. I wanted to tried different kinds of sweet treats, so I got maple walnut flavor for ice cream and pistashio flavor for yogurt. Both were great! But if you asked me, I would say I prefer the pistachio one more. Because the pistachio one is lighter (of course, it's yogurt!) and except for the pistachio nut, it also has almond flavor. I like almond too, so the pistachio one won outright. The only complaint about it is, it's colored. But don't get me wrong, the maple walnut ice cream was as great as the pistachio. If you like chewing something while enjoying a creamy, rich sweet treat, I would recommend it.

Wow. Just wow!! Huge portion sizes, I've come here my whole life when we visit our grandma and the quality and portion size has always remained consistent! All the workers are friendly and sweet! Best ice cream in town!

    (5)
  • Brian U.

Wicked awesome ice cream here!!! The size of the ice cream you get it huge!! I love getting the soft serve here with all the flavors they have! This is a must a few times a week in the summer for sure. You get a huge bang for the buck!!!

    (5)
  • Lorre F.

Rich, creamy homemade goodness at this roadside stand a short drive from Concord's historic center. A super black raspberry, great coffee oreo, and outstanding Mississippi Mud (coffee, oreo crumbles, almonds) will keep this spot on our short list anytime we are in the area. The kiddie size was more like a two-scoop small. A tad on the pricey side but obviously good cream requires good cash. A tasty discovery we would spend our money and our calories on anytime.

  • Local E.

WHY DO THEY HIRE CURT HIGH SCHOOL KIDS? Seriously, ten minutes of the most basic customer service training would go a long way. I like the ice cream and the prices are fair-ish, but -- and sorry for being a scrooge -- I wish that the servers would actually give us ONE SCOOP when we ask "please, please, just one scoop." I get the charm, I get that it's cute, I get that it's a novelty to be served huge amounts of ice cream. But, from time to time, you might just like it when your kid or your in-law is served one scoop instead of a whole ton. Also: it would be nice if the employees were encouraged to act less... flippant. How about "please," "thank you," ? Gosh I sound old but I feel like I'm always about to get an eye-roll just for ordering ice cream. (sorry for the grumbling)

    (4)
  • Jackson M.

The best ice-cream in all of Massachusetts!! I go here a lot and love their Oreo Ice-Cream, has to be my favorite. I think there prices are weird, if you have a group of people that you are buying ice cream for it can get a little pricy. But for one person it is still a little much like 6$ for a large but who cares??!! It's ice cream!!!!

    (5)
  • Amanda H.

I am what I consider an ice cream snob and this is one or two on my list of all time favorite ice creams. I had the "Green Monster" and it was so creamy and minty! I loved the chocolate bits and the way the cream held up for me despite some warm weather outside! Excellent ice cream and local! Let's all support them by eating more Ice Cream!!!!

    (5)
  • Andrea G.

Great ice cream quality and flavors. We try to save stops here for a special treat or we'd blow up from the calories. ; However, I have noticed they never hire boys or give them a chance for jobs. The girls at the window never crack a smile and need to be coached on customer service skills and the importance of being friendly to customers!

  • David B.

Sorry Bedford Farms...good ice cream but I will stick with Richardson's and Kimball's. I have to say that I though the 'kiddie' size was more than enough. I'm not sure what fellow Yelpers are complaining about. It is the ice cream that sticks out in mind. Frankly, I do think some of the kiddie size cups at my fav places are TOO big. I appreciate that they nicely balance the dairy with sugar. I find commercial ice cream too sweet for my taste. Kudos. Still, when I ask for chocolate peanut butter ice cream, I want to taste both. The chocolate was barely there and I had to get to the bottom of the cup to get any peanut butter. Tsk tsk.

  • Elise M.

Bedford Farms has the best ice cream I've ever had. They have a good variety of ice cream flavors. They're a little pricey, but they have huge portions. The staff consists of mainly teenage girls who aren't always the most friendly or quick, but they're well trained, and I have not had any bad service.

    (4)
  • David B.

Bedford Farms fits many people's concept of what a local ice-cream stand should be and there are a lot of flavors to choose from, along with the usual toppings. Some of the flavor combinations are pretty interesting and Almond Joy has my vote. But it's not "special," for lack of a better term. Outside of the exotic combos, Bedford Farms just doesn't care. Their vanilla is dull, their chocolate tastes like the sugar-free variety and a few others are really not very good at all. When Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's are at the local convenience store, there's just no excuse for this. I know Bedford is a small town and I don't expect Berthillon but this is not rocket science. Lots of commercial manufacturers figured out how to make high-quality ice cream decades ago and they sell it for about the same price as Bedford Farms. This means Bedford Farms has to offer something at least as good as the big guys, and why not a little better? The all-teenage-girl team behind the counter has its good days and bad days too. Most days are good, but if you go there on a bad day, be prepared for a lot of attitude.

  • Maria D.

So good! Vanilla ice cream, chocolate covered pretzels, and salted caramel=yummmmmm

    (4)
  • Jennifer C.

I like Bedford Farms..but I wanted to like it more. I wanted it to be better than it actually is. I enjoy some of the flavors they have, but I have been disappointed by others. The portions are HUGE, so I only order the kiddie size. That is more than enough. The shakes are not that great-kind of too heavy and can give you an upset stomach. Some of the staff are not very pleasant. I won't give up hope that I will like this place more-it is so close to where I work. Maybe this Spring it will get better!

    (3)
  • Sam S.

The hubster and I have a serious infatuation with their 'sweet and salty' ice cream. Vanilla icecream, caramel, chocolate covered pretzels. Enough said.

    (5)
  • Ralph S.

My wife, daughter and I just finished two small (more than enough with some extra for the home freezer) pumpkin seasonal flavored ice cream and it was delicious. We have come to Bedford Farms for a number of years and always enjoy the quality of the ice cream and variety of flavors. Other Yelpers complain about the service but we have never encountered a problem, to the contrary the servers are efficient and courteous.

    (5)
  • Mike M.

Bedford Farms follows in the great American tradition of local ice cream shops staffed by swarms of high school girls leaning out of windows and ermerging with GIANT scoops of tasty treats. We visited on Easter Sunday looking to cool off on a gorgeous 80 degree afternoon. They have about 30 different flavor varieties and promise a generous scoop for the child's dish or cone - they certainly didn't disappoint (check out my photo of Laura Q's mint chocolate chip dish!) I had a regular sundae with a scoop of chocolate chip and scoop of oreo with some hot fudge and whipped cream. Huge portions - I was totally stuffed by the bottom of my cup! The only detraction I can offer is that they don't serve flurries (like DQ) which is what I really wanted. Also, on the toppings front, they only have walnuts, not peanuts, and don't have cherries - seriously, how can it be a true hot fudge sundae without a cherry on top!?!?!

  • Lou S.

"Dear reviewer, I am 55 years old and I like ice cream. What size should I get?" Answer: Child sized. "Greetings, I weigh 358 pounds with my shoes and socks off. I am craving ice cream. What size should I get?" Answer: Child sized. "Hello sir, I am 90 years old and I have not eaten since last Tuesday. I am famished. What size should I get?" Answer: Child sized. Everyone should be ordering child sized, no matter how big or old you are. The small is almost too heavy for the cone, the medium should be eaten with an ice cream scooper, and I have never seen the large, but I suspect you would risk your life trying to finish it. Actual small children are sh*t out of luck. Maybe they should add an "infant" or "neonate" size. The traditional flavors are all good. I tried the Green Monster, which is mint ice cream and fudge littered with chocolate chunks, an excellent choice. Moose Tracks, which is heavy on chocolate and nuts, is also recommended. This place doesn't look much like a farm, but their portions are large enough to feed a village.

my favorite ice cream in summers, plan on waiting a bit to find parking and for your ice cream They have tons of flavors, something for everyone Their small size is very large

  • Laura D.

This ice cream is so delicious. My husband used to live in Billerica and finally brought me to this stand. He got a chocolate milk shake, which I of course sampled. Delicious! I got the purple cow chips flavor. It was an amazing flavor combination with white and dark chocolate mixed in to black raspberry. I am still not sure if I got ice cream of frozen yogurt- it tasted too rich to be frozen yogurt! The small was huge. Too big. I ate half and had to save the rest. Next time I will be going for a kiddie. And yes, there will be a next time!

    (5)
  • Megan L.

One upside to living in Billerica is that Bedford Farms is right down the street. We know spring is here when we see the lights go on and the scoop girls with their teeny tiny shorts and cellulite-free thighs manning the windows (they must have the power to resist the ice cream). When this happens, we put on our bug spray, load the pooch into the car, drive to Bedford Farms, fight for a parking spot and get in line while pondering which delicious treat will be passing our lips in a matter of minutes. The ice cream is creamy and delicious. The frappes are thick and tasty. I have two favorites: the chocolate frappe, and peppermint ice cream with warm butterscotch topping (sounds revolting but it tastes like Christmas!) Service is chipper and tips are encouraged--I always like to think I'm contributing to a college fund. It's cash only, so that makes it extra easy to throw a buck or two into the jar. The atmosphere is always fun, with people lounging on their tailgates or on the benches, chatting and enjoying a liesurely snack. All in all, a great neighborhood ice cream stand.

Ice cream done right with plenty of flavors to chose from There not shy to dole it out a small cone is plenty

    (5)
  • Dirgni S.

The best ice cream in Massachusetts. Better than Kimball's, JP Licks, and all the others. Portion sizes are huge. I always get the kiddie size and sometimes it's too big for me. I love ice cream, so this is amazing. My favorite is Moose Tracks, but every flavor I've tasted is great. I notice the 1-star cyclist thought they were too small. Either he spends way too much time on his bike or he weighs a zillion pounds. I don't know how anyone can eat anything larger than a small. And I'm not a skinny little waif of a thing. (Frankly, I'm kinda glad they don't refill his water bottle. I suspect it is a health code violation to put his cootie-riddled bottle under the tap - kinda like buffet places can't let you reuse your plate for seconds. Plus, he seems really whiny, so I'd rather not share Bedford Farms with him.)

  • Jen S.

BEST ice-cream around! Don't waste anymore of your time reading reviews-just go there :)

    (5)
  • Sally W.

On a summer night, going to Bedford Farms will always guarantee you to see someone you know, which makes the quick wait in the fast moving line bearable. From t-ball teams after games, to groups of friends, to local firemen after a shift, there are always loyal customers happy to enjoy another good cone with friends. There are many benches around the parking lot, but more popular is the DIY bench in the trunks of cars to enjoy the warm night. BF has a full array of flavors, from rich ice cream to low fat frozen yogurt to sherbert, sorbet, and natural sugar only ice cream. I've gone here all my life, and it is honestly the best ice cream I've ever had. The service is always friendly, helpful, and efficient, although tips are encouraged!

Where are the cows? - No cows Where's the farm? - No farm No cows, no farm, no problem - Bedford Farms keeps its eye on the prize, great ice cream, minimal fuss. Very rich, good variety of flavors, and generous scoops which are portioned just right - the small should be adequate to any reasonable persons immediate needs, with the large... well, you might as well just by a gallon and take some home too, there's no way you can, or should, eat all that ice cream in one sitting. (That said, these portions ARE a shade smaller than those at Kimballs, which are really over the top). Nowhere to sit , and not really all that much parking - I hate to dock points for that, but it makes Bedford Farms slightly less worth the trip over local competitors, if you are keen on sitting out.

    (4)
  • Katie F.

When my grandpa, a man of great stature, came for a visit we told him one scoop was all he would need. He didn't listen. This place is a classic hometown treat. Walking up to a window, sitting on a bench amongst an always crowded parking lot. And oh yeah---the ice cream is delicious.

    (5)
  • M G.

The best, most affordable ice cream place in greater Boston. Portions are huge, ice cream is rich and creamy and they can make a mean frappe. Your money goes a lot further here than JP Licks or Emack and Bolio's and the service is much friendlier...but you have to drive to Bedford. For me, usually it's worth it!

    (5)
  • John O.

The ice cream here is out of this world! It is rich, creamy and delicious.

  • Lilly A.

This place was recommended to me and I needed to pick up an ice cream cake, so we took a trip over. I had four separate encounters with the "staff" here, as I have multiple children and we ordered ice cream outside, then got a water inside, and then went back after we were finished for our cake. The first girl I got was impatient and ungracious. The second girl I got was polite enough but wouldn't win any awards as customer service person of the year. The third time I got the first girl again, who had to be told by one of her equally clueless co-workers that she should wait on me instead of standing there in front of me doing nothing but chatting. But it was the fourth girl who took the cake (no pun intended). I waited for a good minute while the three girls chatted right in front of me, in no hurry to help me. Then I get attitude, my credit card was silently taken and shoved back at me after a quick swipe. I stood there waiting for a credit slip to sign--nothing. Then I stood there waiting for a thank you. None coming. Finally, in disbelief, I grabbed my cake and left. Shaking my head at this experience. Come home and read on Yelp that this lack of courteous service seems to be an ongoing problem. The manager or owner is greatly mistaken not to address this. He is doing not only his customers a dis-service but everyone who works for him and thinks that this behavior is acceptable. I seriously doubt I will return. I actually thought the ice cream was good and I liked the flavor selection but so not worth the attitude. Customers have a choice about how to spend their dollars. I choose to spend mine where the person receiving my dollars is actually appreciative.

At the time of this writing I am relaxing in front of Bedford Farms for my lunch break. I was in a mood for some ice cream today and what I got is simply unrivaled by any other ice cream place I've been to. I got the cherry bomb and my dear goodness! It is silky and smooth and so flavorful. I'm just glad I decided to eat here and not take it to work because I think I may be ordering another one....

  • Chris C.

Simply put, very good ice cream. My old favorite was Chunky Chocolate Pudding which was basically chocolate ice cream with every form of chocolate goodie they could jam into it. While sounding crazy and over indulgent it is not as much so as you would think. That said my new favorite flavor is the Green Monster which is mint ice cream with fudge swirls and oreo in it. I mean how can you go wrong with that? Kiddie size is actually small here and smalls are actually manageable for a normal human unlike many other ice cream stands. The only bad thing about this place is they have no where to sit and enjoy your ice cream other than the parking lot. So its not really a place to stay a few and enjoy.

    (5)
  • David C.

I didn't believe this place is better than baskin robbins. It's been opening since 1880. That sounds like "old skool" style. The cashiers are very friendly, the girls are ... you know. This is type of home business for local school charity.

Family-owned, a Bedford tradition for celebrating or consoling anything. Won the big game? Lost a race? Start of summer? End of camp? Made the honor role? Got an F? Let's go to Bedford Farms! Ice Cream is A+ Plenty of flavors, all freshly made. Frozen yogurt if you're feeling healthy, sundaes if you dare, usually some new experimental flavors, and some soft ice cream too. If you're daring, get a cone. They're huge. If you want to take your time, make the safe choice and get a cup. Waiting in line on a hot summer night fighting mosquitoes - the squad of rosy-cheeked ice cream scoopers keeps the line moving pretty well. Parking can be difficult when everyone in town has the urge. Avoid the crush and park on the left, behind the building. Go for the ice cream and the small town atmosphere. Catch up with neighbors, enjoy a constant high school reunion, or sit for a spell. A good destination if you ride in on the MinuteMan Bikeway. About a mile from the end of the line.

Amazing Ice cream! So full. Worth the trip if you have to travel there. They have specials and great ice cream. Take your time ordering and read. Important to check what you want first. If you know what you want and the line is to long go inside there is a line there! Its like a secret line that no one knows about. Only problem is you have to remember what it is you want and then go inside. Also avoid the resturant next door for anything at all. Dalya's Restaurant. Terrible don't go in there for anything just eat ice cream for your meal!!

Nothing new to add. Huge portions, delicious ice cream, wholesome/cute high school girls serving at the counter. I wish there were places like this outside of New England.

The place to go for the best ice cream around, period. Just ice cream, no frills. If you want crowds, cows, games, and atmosphere, then this isn't the place. But if your true passion is ice cream, then why crowd your palate and brain with all that extra sensory commotion? The ice cream is creamy, rich, thick... The way ice cream should be. I highly recommend getting the kids size, that way you can come back for more tomorrow. And just for the record... Bigger is NOT always better. My favorite flavor is Moose Tracks, but I love Green Monster when it's really hot out. Something about the mint really refreshes and cools me off. It's a great place to go as a destination during a bike ride, and sitting under the big beech tree is a wonderful way to enjoy your scoop. When I go, that's where you'll find me!

One of my favorite stops on the way home from work and an evening activity in Bedford. The counter staff has always been pleasant (then again, I know the majority of them!), the portions are large and the flavors are plentiful. I am a big fan of the peanut butter frozen yogurt - a flavor the ice cream place next to my house does not have. The parking lot can get packed on nice days, but spots do open fairly quickly.

Portion sizes are "huge"? Where do you people go for ice cream? Kimball's small is twice the size. Bedford Farm's servings are the same size as JP Licks, or Emack and Bolios. So, our group of cyclists shows up and I ask if they can fill my water bottle while I figure out what I want. The prissy high school princess behind the counter declares no, she can't, because "it's a health code thing." Since when is it a "health code thing" to put a bottle of water under the tap and fill it? Everywhere else I go, the answer is an enthusiastic "sure!" and some places even ask if I want ice. Another negative: they refuse to serve two flavors in a small- something only Christina's and Herrels refuse to do. JP Licks, Emack and Bolios, Lizzie's, Kimball Farms...all will do 2 flavors without batting an eyelid. Did I mention that the counter area is straight out of the website Passive Aggressive Notes? They hide the napkins and spoons behind the screen, and then actually have notes on all the windows in capital letters saying "DO NOT REACH INSIDE FOR SPOONS OR NAPKINS." Then there are signs everywhere demanding you not stand in front of the restaurant next door...

Huge portions. I thought it was more of a farm based on the name, but it just an ice cream stand. It's good

A true Bedford institution, Bedford Farms is the place to be pretty much every night in the summer. The serving sizes are monstrous, especially for the price. The frappes and other drinks are always a great choice too, looove the rasberry lime rickey and orange sherbet freeze. Even though it looks like theres a giant line, all the windows are usually open and youll soon be stumbling over your words when you find yourself at the front of the line still trying to decide what to order. They have all the standard flavors (including my personal favorite, peppermint stick, year round) and a lot of specialty flavors (green monster and moose tracks are my two faves). In grade school this was a weekly treat from mom. In high school we would come here and tell the girls working where we were partying or ask them where we should be partying because everyone comes here. In college it was a breeding ground for awkward run-ins with classmates you haven't seen since graduation. I plan on coming to Bedford Farms every time I'm in Bedford until either I die or they die and I would put my money on me dying first.

Just got back from a Sunday afternoon jaunt to Bedford Farms and man... that was fun. I got a kids' sundae with strawberry ice cream and hot fudge. The girl asked whether I wanted whipped cream or marshmallow on it. Marshmallow? Really? I just had to try it. The marshmallow topping didn't really taste like much, but the hot fudge was delicious and my strawberry ice cream was out of this world. Slightly icy in texture, with a great flavor of real strawberries and a slight tartness to it. Wow. My strawberry ice cream itch got scratched big-time. We lifted up the hatch of our car and sat on the tailgate munching our ice cream and watching the people. Lots of cute, well-behaved kids around. It was a lovely way to spend an hour on a summer afternoon.

Excellent quality ice cream, generous portions. Yeah, you've heard that already. And it's true. These guys compete with places like Kimball Farms are comparably generous and good. But here's where they really shine: Great ice cream cakes. What is an ice cream cake? Well, what it should be is mostly ice cream with maybe a sliver of spongecake or graham cracker crust on the bottom to keep things from entirely falling apart. That's what these guys deliver: Excellent ice cream, and a lot of it, with just enough so-called cake (or graham crackers) to justify the word cake. Yum. Previously, I'd bought a lot of ice cream cakes from Tosconini's. But recently, they went towards a 75% crap cake and 25% ice cream formula to save money (still $32 to you, of course...THEY'RE the ones saving the money). No more. This is now my ice cream cake of choice!

Some friends lured me out on a bike ride with the promise of ice cream midway, and of course I obliged. Half way through, we ended up here. This is a classic ice creamery, of the kind that seems to be so prevalent in New England The "small" would probably be a double scoop anywhere else - I had the green monster, which was mint ice cream with oreos mixed in. It came to $3.33 for a small, which wasn't cheap, but seemed like a good value considering the portion size. I ate about half - any more would have been sheer gluttony (and I still felt mildly ill afterward). Too bad that you can't take ice cream home in a doggie bag. What can I say? I'm a sucker for ice cream.

Really good ice cream at fair prices. One word of caution, do not order a large ice cream unless you typically eat about a quart of ice cream at each sitting! Especially if it's a hot summer day, unless you enjoy licking melted ice cream from your forearms.

The only thing that was keeping me from giving this place 5 stars is the fact that it's not T accessible and is a bit of a distance (20 minute drive) from Boston, but I've since decided that that reason doesn't quite outweigh the absolute awesomeness of their ice cream (in addition to their Mississippi Mud, I've become a huge fan of their Maple Walnut). As such, I'm bumping them up a notch to their well-deserved 5-star glory.

I have been Bedford farms 2-3 times last summer and last Friday. Icecream is good and price is ok too. But I prefer Kimball farms which is not that far away from Bedfird farms. Good place when Kimball farms is closed.

The BEST strawberry ice cream I've EVER had. And I'm registered as a chocolate ice cream fan! Which means the strawberry is fantastic for me to make the switch.

As much as I like making the trip out to Kimball's in Carlisle on a warm summer night, I think I might actually like the ice cream at Bedford Farms a little better. It isn't quite as rich, and definitely not as huge (the ice creams at Kimball's really are too big, if you can believe that). Sure, the atmosphere is nothing like that at Kimball's, but it's a bit closer to Boston and the ice cream is outstanding.

I admit it. I'm a frozen yogurt freak. Now maybe I'm a bit biased considering that I grew up with Bedford Farms nearby, but this stuff rocks. For shizzle. Even with the fairly extensive frozen yogurt menu, I always get one of two flavors: either coffee heath bar or purple cow chips (black raspberry with milk and white choc chips - yum). The sheer size of the scoops amazes me. I always order a kiddie and can barely finish it. Massive bargain at $3.15 if you ask me. Should you decide to order a large - don't say I didn't warn you. Even though I don't eat ice cream, I do marvel at the sheer vastness of their ice cream menu. If you like ice cream, go check on Bedford Farms.... and don't forget to add the jimmies (and yes, if you are in new england, they are jimmies and not sprinkles. get over it.)

I usually go to the one in Concord. I absolutely LOVE their mud pie pie (Oreo cookie crust, layer of fudge, mud pie ice cream, more fudge and crushed Oreo cookies). Their flavors and quality of ice cream are also super.

basically a farm stand that serves ice cream. if you go at night, risk getting bit by tons of mosquitoes or eating it and getting it all over inside your car. tons and tons of flavors and absolutely GINORMOUS portions for the same amount as rancatore's or jp licks... a small at bedford farms is the equivalent to a large in many many places! am a fan of the green monster and coffee oreo...

I realize that my small complaints are not as important as the fact that overall the ice cream is always good quality here. My one complaint is that my favorite flavor there, chunky chocolate pudding and my husband fav, muddy river are pretty inconsistant with the amount of stuff in the ice cream. Sometimes I get all chip chinks others it is brownie. My other complaint is that I can't stand the over packed pints. The plastic bags they started using this year helped but it can still get to be a pretty big mess by the time I get home. I know for alot of people more is better, and I understand more ice cream is better then less but I am OK with a pint being a pint and levaing it at that.

Save room for the ice cream because the portions are huge! Very good ice cream.

I'd say it deserves 4 stars... the regular icecream is so yummy; they have all sorts of flavors and it is soo much cheaper than any JP Licks or Coldstone. However, I am a huge fan of frozen yogurt, which they do not carry.
