First time here and I'm very impressed. The food is exceptional. Tap list is small and a bit unimpressive. I had the The Sweet Chili Chicken Crispy with the tater tots. It was just perfect mix of crunchy, sweet and spicy. The bartender was attentive, but not too pushy. Just hate it when servers try and dump drinks down your throat to jack up the bill. I will come back again.

Went last Saturday for my first time (everyone else in our group had been there before). It's loud but the booths are comfortable and I liked the atmosphere. For entrees, my wife had the Daisy Mae chicken (southern fried chicken), friends had the prime rib and turkey tips, while I had the Pistol Pete burger. The burger was excellent - perfectly cooked and came with tons of onion strings - I loved it. The chicken and turkey tips were great too. Only issue was the prime rib, which was overly fatty. My friend told the waitress, who was very understanding. The manager came over and chatted - offering to get him something else. He asked for a pizza to go, since the rest of us were half done. When the waitress brought the bill - they took off the Prime Rib and the pizza without asking. Really appreciated how they handled it. Needless to say, we gave the waitress a nice tip - for being so attentive and for handling the situation well. A band stated up around 8:30 or 9:00. Glad we weren't sitting close as it was pretty loud, but they were decent. Overall, we really liked the Ashland Ale House - it could become a real go-to place for us. We'll be back soon.

3.287 Stars AAH is located in a medium size strip mall of route 126 not that far from Framingham. The bar is impressive in size and it's centrally located. The booths are big, ample and cozy. The taps are numerous and they give the nod to Massachusetts breweries but the selection includes some choice craft beers from CA and other regions. There is huge chalk board and a printed list but you may want to have a backup, they move product here. I've only had beer here but they do seasonal cocktails. I've tried the burgers (3/5) and the meatloaf (4/5). They have a standard menu but they add items to the food menu with the seasons. Even when it's busy the food pops up in a timely fashion. * parking, lot. * the bar is huge and I've been left hanging a few times when no tender was visible. * plenty of TVs they have "the game" on. * Fri & Sat live music. * Gordon Ramsay might say they have too many items on the food menu...

I was pleasantly surprised. I went in not sure what to expect. My first impression was, it looked like a 99, or other chain type restaurant. The walls were covered in great art and immediately in front of you is a massive round bar. I did see a lot of on tap beer which made me hopeful that there was some great beer to be had. I took a seat with my friend at the bar and we waited. There was one bartender on and it was fairly early in the lunch hour. She was quiet but did have a nice smile. I chose a beer I hadn't had in some time and was pleased that the beer tasted right. Gotta love a place that keeps it's tap lines clean. The menu has quite a few options, I decided to go off the special board and order Scallop Tacos. They arrived with a great sauce on the side, I would recommend getting it as prepared (I was nervous about the sauce being too overpowering, it was just right, I should just learn to trust my servers) Who knew, scallop tacos. great fried scallops chopped in a warm flour tortilla with great seasoning... I would definitely give this place a try again and bring friends to try some more beers.. The one thing that I was surprised they didn't have, WiFi in the location. Ashland is notorious for bad cellular signal and most other locations in town have either a hotspot from a cable provider or a restaurant sponsored one. *If they have one, they didn't advertise it well. Final word: Definitely will return....

Great food, weak drinks. The food is extremely satisfying. I've been here a few times and every time has been good except the drinks are super weak and not that cheap.

Listen nest beer menu around! Food is good for the price and service is not too shabby. Try the pistol Pete burger with taters tots.

Good find in the area. Solid beer list. Burger was done well. friendly service and a rewards program for regulars. Good sized bar area, but also ok to bring the kids too.

I say two because 1) the Bruins lost the most important game here while a crappy live band played 2)live band sucks

This place is great. I love the homey vibe and great waitstaff. The menu is chock full of options. Not to mention the draft beer list is one of the best I have seen in the Framingham area. I personally love the Villa Ancho Burger. The fried jalapeños are an unexpected touch. I've had the flatbread and tried a couple of the pasta dishes as well. Tonight my party was a tad disappointed in our waitress. Unfortunately we had to send one of our drinks back because it was an inch below the rim. The waitress sent it back and returned the drink with little to no improvement. I'd give the place 4 stars if we hadn't had an issue tonight.

Chicken wit pickles is the salty combo you're looking for my friend. Margarita salt is NOT that combo. It's almost like the Dead Sea in a cuppa... Cool if you want a vaca but we're in Framingham! No place for a holiday!

Wait staff is prompt and courteous. A great variety/selection of beer. ale house has an active menu- the kitchen comes out with specials every month and they are, besides being delicious, very innovative. The portion sizes are huge too, and they are more than willing to make modifications to the item on the menu as per your taste and liking

I wish I could give this place a 4.5! I don't know what other people have been saying about this bar, but the service was amazing, the food was delicious (especially for a an American pub restaurant) and the drinks were very good! We walked in and were a little distratced by all the decor, but it didn't bother us. It just amplified the towns, almost like a townie bar but bigger and the atmosphere was very inviting. We happened to know a few people that worked there from previous restaurants and they told us they loved working there! So the service was superb, managers and staff asked how the food was, if we were ok and if we needed anything to drink. I got a bloody mary and it was pretty good! She put a little extra vodka in it for me ;) My boyfriend and I got the Salmon Teriyaki and Scallop Scampi dish and they were pretty freakin good for bar food!! The salmon was juicy, just perfect and the vegetables I got with it were cooked perfectly, props to the chef! My boyfriend's dish had so much flavor! Even the bread that was with it was crispy and fresh! I'm telling you the food was really good! All in all, if you're nearby, stop in! They have a huge beer list, the atmosphere is great and the food is shockingly good!

The Ashland Ale house is great. The craft beer selection has featured a lot of my favorites - including the hard to find. The staff is great also and very welcoming. Each appetizer and entree I've had have been delicious. Will go to the Ale House anytime I'm in the area.

I went to the Ale House on Monday afternoon with my wife for some lunch. We were just about the only people in the place. The bartender was on his cell phone the whole time. Then he starts swearing at his phone. He could not believe that he was just nominated for the ice bucket challenge. For the next fifteen minutes all we heard in the restaurant was "are you F$#@# kidding me" "What the f$##" "Can you F$$##@ believe this" "I am going to F##@@ kill him". I brought this to the attention our waitress who then told the bartender. The bartender came over to apologize, but too little too late. I spoke with the manager who could have cared less. We paid for our drinks and left without even getting our food. I can't believe they allow staff to be on their cell phones during service. I won't be back.

Decent beer choices with 20 on tap and another 20 or so in bottles. Food is fairly typical. Would be nice to offer a good grilled fish sandwich. Had steak tips and a Caesar salad. Great. Not many low carb options. Great place for a group to sample a variety of beers.

  • Bob B.

Great beer selection. A LOT of fried food. Seriously. Good place to go with several couples, fun atmosphere, friendly staff. Burgers are good, but again it headlines a very unhealthy, mostly fried menu. They should serve a lipitor appetizer. Food is ok, but the star is the beer list which makes me come back.

    (3)
  • Amanda G.

Ugh-- food was gross. I got the tavern panini and French onion soup. The bread in my soup was burnt and the sandwich was so bland, greasy, and heavy. So disappointed. Will not be returning

Ale house is always a go to for me. The atmosphere is fun, although if you like bright and airy this isn't the place for you. There are not many windows for natural light to come through. The bar is huge and has many different beers on tap/bottled. The place always seems clean. Staff is very friendly. Food is always really good. I have not had one bad meal here. The buffalo wings are so so yummy.! I am refraining from giving this place 5 stars because service is not quite up to par yet. The ale house has a great rewards program which keeps me coming back. Live entertainment certain nights which is fun! I will recommend that everyone give this place a shot at least once and see for themselves. :)

Are you wasting away with lousy Asian "cuisine" across the street? Are you downtown in Framingham quenching your thirst at one of the dive bars whilst wondering what sexually transmitted disease you could contract? Well, King's Plaza in Ashland can offer you something beyond suspiciously stale grocery items and a dollar store. Welcome to the Ashland Ale House, which has taken the wasting remains of a BYOB Italian abortion and inserted a robust watering hole with a craft beer selection rivaling Stone's Public House. Week 1 here seems busy, but the bartenders and waitstaff seem up to the task. I'm only drinking, not eating - but from the side of the bar closest to the kitchen, food is moving quickly and looks like good pub fare. In a neck of the woods that has very little to offer unless you're a vagrant or gangster - AAH definitely raises the bar. A definite gem on route 126 to join Pepperoncini's and Dona Sofia.

Pretty decent place for meeting up with friends. I headed there recently with a client (nice halfway point between my home in Framingham and hers in Milford). Watched a Bruins game together, had a couple of nice, cold draft beers and the food was pretty good. Recommended if you're not looking for anything fancy.

We (two couples) recently got together to hang out at the AAH. We had good service, a solid meal and enjoyed the live music. They had about 20 craft beers on draught and at least that many bottled options. Their drink menu also featured several specialty cocktails. The AAH has a fairly large number of items on their food menu. This is not a fine dining establishment - expect a good selection of pub food/american fare done pretty well... Some selections we had included the Gorgonzola steak tips (tender, good flavor, slightly over cooked); seasonal salad with grilled chicken (excellent and the pumpkin bread croutons were a great addition); and Guinness battered fish and chips (large portion; well prepared). The bone in buffalo wings were large and the sauce was very good. A side of buffalo tater tots, basic as they are, were delicious. Our server was attentive and friendly and the 3 member live cover band was talented and added to the fun during dessert. Regarding dessert, the coffee was excellent - I am usually disappointed with coffee from most restaurants so this was a pleasant surprise. On the down side, the whoopie pie sunday was very average - the whoopie pie was cold/frozen and the ice cream and chocolate sauce ordinary. Overall the Atmosphere was very relaxed and fun. If you are looking for a fun casual place to get together with a few friends for a couple of drinks and healthy portions of basic but well prepared pub fare this will do the trick. We plan to visit again!

While good in a pinch, the food here is greasy, and I never seem to get exactly what I ordered. We typically order the food to go, and the order is generally close to being right, but never just as ordered. I've only eaten in once, it was loud and crowded. Great beer selection, if that's what you're looking for.

  • Anon A.

I went there last night with my boyfriend. We got a table at the bar area. We ordered our drinks right away without issue. However, when we ordered our meal the waitress did not even write down our order. We ordered the chicken tenders (we were there for drinks mainly). Another waitress came out about 10 minutes later with a chicken sub. I told her it was not ours. 5 minutes later our waitress came out and said "I repeated the order to you. The chicken sub." I just decided at this point to agree since it was loud in there and I didn't want my food spat in. She also ended this conversation with a very condescending "Do you want another drink?" I do not recommend.

Sadly.... AAH was "meh". From the service to the food, we were pretty disappointed. The waitress didn't know how to pronounce "Smithwicks", and adding insult to injury, our beers tasted watered down and under-carbonated. The food was decent but didn't blow our minds. Even though it wasn't terribly busy, we were seated at a high bar table instead of a booth, which left us in a position where we couldn't hear anything because of the TV noise but couldn't actually see any of the TVs very well. I'd be willing to give it a second try, but it would take a lot to impress me at this point.

i was very pleasantly surprised. i never would have stopped in here on my own. my mom recommended it during a visit so we all went this past saturday night. with a toddler in tow. the service was great. i don't remember our waitresses name but after eating out a week prior at a different restaurant & having bad service, this was a breath of fresh air. she was enthusiastic, on top of everything, she anticipated our needs... i could go on & on. she was also very prompt. with a toddler you dont want to be sitting around for a long time waiting for the check or for them to run your card through. she was just amazing. the food was very good. everything came out hot & cooked perfectly. a plus, it seems to be very family friendly. just in the half of the restaurant we were in there were 4 other toddlers having dinner with their families. we all ordered "the big fish". it was huge & tasted great. the onion rings were great. i'm a bit picky on them & i really liked them here. my husband had the tater tots with his, which were good. they didnt taste like they were pulled out of the freezer. our toddler had the quesadilla & fries. he is picky when it comes to restaurant food & just ate the fries & tater tots, but we took the quesadilla home & admittedly me & my husband ate that for the lunch the next day. not bad for a kids menu item. it was tasty. the prices were great. i look forward to going back.

This place was a nice surprise. Was in the area and decided to stop here for lunch with my girlfriend. When we walked in we were not expecting such a nicely decorated establishment. We loved the movie decor and tin ceilings. We ordered the cuban eggrolls, chicken parm sandwich and the beer battered fish and chips. Overall the food was good but did lack a little flavor. We were impressed at the wide variety of menu options and side options for each meal. The service was great and the waitress asked if we wanted the volume on for the patriots game. Its nice when the server goes that extra mile to make your experience pleasant. Would go again if in the area. Recommended to all.

Really good food and a GREAT beer list - lots of craft beer which is a big plus. We've been several times and have yet to have a bad meal. Problem is, everyone else likes it too. That's good that they'll stay in business, but it can be a little intense walking in at a busy time. There's usually a wait and you can either stand awkwardly in a storm of loud people drifting from the bar and a stream of waitstaff, or go outside the door in a foyer area with your beeper thing. For whatever reason, we hate waiting in the foyer. Clearly none of this has stopped us from coming back many times because we always have a good time once we're seated and eating.

A couple friends and I went here on Sunday night to enjoy some beers and get some food. I got the prime rib and wasn't expecting it to be great since it was like $15 at an ale house. It was worse than expected though and it was cold. The mixed vegetables, or should I just call them soggy zucchini were awful . The bartender cut 3 out of 6 of us off after 4 beers(we were all sober and why only cut off 3 of us???? Meanwhile the patrons next to us were sucking down mixed drinks like it was water. I give this place 2 stars because the beer selection is good and the tater tots are good.

Me and my longtime friend used to go here every weekend for 6+ months straight. Until I got really tired of the %@#$tty service!!! The food is AMAZING. Very home-like menu items. No matter what I ordered, it was always delicious. I'm a big steak/potatoes guy and they have THE BEST steak tips I've ever had. Atmosphere is very nice/calm. Avg age 30-50, usually married couples go. Often have weekly live music. Clean building I am giving 3 stars because of the service...ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I would say a good 3 ouf of 4 times you might as well have been invisible. Numerous times we would go and it would be a good 10-15 minutes before anyone even noticed we had sat down at the bar, even when the place barely had anyone there. You have to go out of your way to get their attention. I remember many many times we'd be served our food and the bartender would flat out disappear for a solid 20+ minutes. It was absolutely ridiculous. I'm very easy going and laid back. It takes a lot to make me mad, but the service at this place seriously ticks me off..How hard it is to refill drinks and serve food?? Seriously WTF? And mind you, I've had the WORST service when the place was nearly EMPTY. I honestly hate giving 3 stars to this place. Food is absolutely amazing, but the service is absolutely terrible. And for that reason, I haven't been there in a few months and I do not ever see myself going back.

Amazing place! Amazing food with an amazing team of servers and bartenders! The best place around to go for drinks and dinner with friends. We have tried other places but we just keep coming back!

Place was ok. I heard good things so we tried it. I got the Ruben and it was good. Their fries weren't good though. Awesome beer selection. Very much so a tavern. Menu was decent. We got the pretzels as an app and they were just ok. I could do it again though.

My friends and I love it here! It is certainly one of my favorite places in town. I would really like to highlight Christina and Karen (bartenders) for their quick service and pleasant nature. I would totally recommend this place to a friend.

I like the Ashland Ale House. For the first time in years, there's a place in Ashland that actually has good burgers. That, on top of pretty good service, makes it a good restaurant in my opinion. I'm also a big beer fan, so it would seem like this would be an ideal spot for me to frequent. WRONG! There is an incredible selection of beers here, but the vast majority of them are pale ales of some variety. I know those are popular beers, but common, give people who don't like a million hops in their beer some choices too (we do exist). On top of that, the food they have that isn't burgers is fairly meh (the mac and cheese is disgusting - I think it was actually just noodles, a ton of mayo, and some peppers or something like that). All in all, the burgers are worth going there for. And if you like pale ales, this is your spot.

    (3)
  • David S.

Ate here on a trip for work. Food was decent, about what you expect from a bar. Drinks were very well made so the bartenders were good. The downside is that the service was bad otherwise. The waitress was fairly slow, couldn't advise on specials, and took forever to take our order. Other than tat it was ok.

    (3)
  • Brittany R.

This place is mediocre. There's nothing too much to hate and certainly not much to love. The beer selection is great but the food menu is a hot mess, along with the decor. It seems that they took six people, gave them 1/6 of the wall space and the menu and told them to decorate and give their input on what they wanted. With the hodgepodge of six different styles you get a bad cross of a 99/hard rock cafe/tgi Fridays/and an old school pub. Needless to say it doesn't make sense and looks like a buncha yard sale crap on the walls. The menu ranges from American to Italian to BBQ to probably something else I'm missing. Our dishes were lukewarm, you could tell the French fries ( whatever style you choose ) were from a bag. The food wasn't bad but certainly nothing to rave home about or come back for. Go for the beer and the staff seems nice for the most part to try and make you feel welcome.

Love this place! Great service, food, & atmosphere. My only critique is that you need to add a buffalo chicken sandwich to the menu ASAP!!!

  • Ed B.

was there last night after having been there a number of times food was poor and items out of stock, (Not sure how you could run out of sweet potatoes) at 6 in the evening food was served a bit cool temp wise and way to salty and greay - portions smaller surely do ti price increases there ( understand that) but just no reason to go back with all the other places around

    (2)
  • Liz J.

Great place to go for a yummy dinner! Staff was nice and we never had to ask for a drink refill. The atmosphere is really laid back and fun. The restaurant is very clean. The food is great, especially the salads! I had the crispy chicken salad, and I was not even slightly disappointed. The reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because my husband had a burger and it was not that great. I would expect a place like that to have an awesome burger, but it was just ok. Also, the prices are a bit high, especially for Ashland. Other than that, it was wonderful. We are definitely going back and I would recommend checking it out!

Food below average, your ears will ring and your throat will be sore after you leave. Unless you are into an older crowd bar scene, pass!

We came in for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The decor is great for a bar/pub and the menu has many choices from salads, sandwiches, burgers and main meals. They have a nice kids menu as well, which is always a plus with our six year old. We loved the hot pretzels and honey mustard sauce starter. We also had the burger and the bun was awesome and the burger was great too. The Reuben eater in our little group gave it a thumbs up too. I am not sure what folks were talking about with food missing the mark, we thought everything was a good quality. While the beer menu is not amazing in the uniqueness of the choices, the ones selected are solid choices that will appeal to many and the frosty cold beer glasses are a lovely touch. The service is always a potential pit fall for a new place but not here at the Ale House, they did a great job, especially when we had a chocolate milk hit the floor! The prices are very reasonable and on-line with other bar/pubs and it is a bar/pub versus a restaurant with a bar. Therefore, comparisons with Stone's Public House which is a restaurant with a bar are not quite fair. The atmosphere in the Ale House is more lively, fun and low-key casual with his beer and movie paraphernalia. We are excited to add another restaurant to our weekend mix, give it a try if you are nearby as you will not be disappointed. Keep up the good work Ale House crew!

Love this place as does everyone I know. Everyone I have taken there w me absolutely loves it. They have seasonal lobster rolls that are amazing. Great atmosphere in the bar area. Tons of choices and all the food is delicious! A must try!

We always look forward to going to the Ashland Ale House. Friendly, unpretentious, good food and drinks. There aren't many dining options in Ashland, so this is just what was needed this side of Framingham. Great for grabbing a beer and watching the game or a casual outing with family. More comfortable than John Harvard's, less chainy than BBC.

    (5)
  • Terry L.

We love this restaurant! We have been more times than we can count. The seasonal salads are great each season they come out with one. Excellent Burgers, pizza, you name it! Staff is consistent and friendly. A great night out, but be prepared to wait as it gets very busy on the weekends.

  • Candy M.

I love this place. Everytime I come here the food is excellent, the service is excellent and the drinks are on point. You feel like you are getting your moneys worth which is a rarity now a days. The vibe is nice and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. It's clean and nicely decorated. I've had the pizza, the boneless wings, pasta, sweet potato fries, nachos, and an assortment of drinks...each and everything I have ever ordered here has been above par. Every server I've ever had has been exceptional as well, so friendly! I've never been on a Fri or Sat night, and I've never used the restrooms so I really can't comment on those things, but I've heard weekend nights are hopping.

Stone's is better. The beer selection is decent, and the food is pretty good. But overall I would say it is just slightly above average. The decor could be better and the space is a little boring.

Whaaaa, what a nice addition to Ashland, we had been missing a sport bar in this town. Hard work and money has been spent in this place to make it very special. A long way from they old 99. The food tonight was great cooked as request, the sweet potatoes were just the best without having to pay extra for it, and our young server Reggie, was so sweet and great I good adopted him. Wifi is the only thing missing in that place. Cannot wait to go back.

Finally checked it out for the first time tonight. Great beer selection, great bar food, great service. It did take a little bit to get our food but I think it's because it was pretty busy. With the summer coming up I think it will be a great addition to Ashland.

When this place first opened it was very good and that wasn't all that long ago. Noticed the last few times I've been there that they do not have a lot of diners. Probably because the food is not good now. I got fried seafood today and it was lukewarm, the French fries (which were obviously frozen crinkle cut) were still white. From what I have heard they are looking for an entirely new staff - cooks, waitresses, bussers, bartenders, etc. Not good. I was going to go to Nello's today and now I really wish I had, waste of money.

Good bar scene with easy access off 126 to and from Ashalnd/Framingham area. Recommended as a stop on the way home from work. Like a mini brew pub. Their beer selection is pretty good. That being said, it's not massive but again is like a mini brew pub. If you are looking for something like the Allston Tap (someone please correct that name) or Doherty's in Pawtucket, just go there. The menu isn't bad. I've had some lunch items I enjoy, I've had some dinner items I enjoy. They are very reasonably priced which lets you enjoy more brew! The menu could use some work though as it's trying to be a few too many things at once. Decor took a bit to get used to, but I've decided I enjoy it. If it's busy though, do prepare to wait. The waitstaff does their best, is still friendly under pressure but they seem to struggle with the multi-task at times. If you're with a group you may or may not notice this. The spot they setup entertainment is rather awkward but you look around the establishment it is the only real logical place. Bathrooms didn't stick out to be immaculate or filthy if you are with the ladies. That could obviously vary by the shift though.

  • James D.

Food was good, nothing to write home about except the spinach artichoke rangoons which were delicious and unique. Fries come from a bag, typical ore-Ida crinkle cut. Decent beer selection. Good place to watch a game or grab a beer, but if you want upscale take a ride to stones public house instead.

love love love Ashland Ale House! So happy it opened a few months ago! My husband and I really enjoy the food and atmosphere - their Daisy Mae chicken dish is seriously the best and they always have great drink deals and friendly wait staff. We have already earned 2 coupons there with using points and that is always a plus for me! The only compliant I have about their food is the turkey tips I ordered once. They were dry and smothered in sauce (which didn't even help the dryness) won't be ordering that again, but am excited to try more items on the menu.

Visiting family in the area so we decided to grab lunch at the Ashland Ale House. Good food and great service. My only complaint is that the steak tips were prepared medium rather than my requested medium rare. If you want your meat medium rare I suggest ordering it rare.

Been there three times, food has been okay all three times. Always sat at the bar, the staff has been incredibly inattentive, slow, and forgetful.

Our family is loving this place. Great food (we often get takeout there), great variety, and when we do eat in the restaurant, great beer. We've tried many items on the menu and I can honestly say that I'm loving the Turkey Burger and my husband loves the Beer Battered Fish and Chips. I've tried a few other things as well and they were all a hit! I'm so glad that this place is close by because it's become our go-to when we don't have time to cook.

A friend and I decided to check out the new Ashland Ale House last night after reading bad reviews of the new restaurant we were originally planning to go to. So first impression, this place is awesome. Has that great brew pub ambiance, the decor was very nice and the layout was good, although there isn't much distinction between dining room and bar area for those who want that kind of separation. We were greeted very warmly and seated quickly at a high top as we requested. I was pleasantly surprised at how busy it was for a Monday night at 7p. Our server was at the table within moments for our drink order and back quickly with our drinks. I asked for menu suggestions and she was very knowledgeable and gave me several recommendations for what to order. My friend and I decided to split a couple appetizers and an entree. Ok, so now the food... we ordered the meatball and pretzel appetizers. The meatball was just ok. Nice texture (def homemade) but didn't have much flavor and I would have liked more sauce with it. The pretzels were really good! Nice and hot and buttery with the perfect amount of salt. They were served with a honey mustard sauce that was a little too creamy for me but my friend liked it. The entree came out within 2 minutes of our appetizers which was a little quick but I guess quick is better than waiting an hour. Portions are huge so we decided to split the chicken parm. First off, I want to preface this by saying the entree choice was my friends, I don't order chicken parm because I'm not much of a fan of breaded meats. The chicken was just ok, it wasn't dry but it wasn't super juicy either. The penne pasta it was served with was cooked perfectly. Again, I wish there had been more sauce. We were both too full for dessert but the whoopie pie sundae sounded very interesting. So overall, it was a good experience. Aside from wishing there was more sauce, the service was good, the atmosphere is great and I'm optimistic that the food will be better next time I go.

This place is great. For all the people who came here expecting a steak restaurant read the name, ALE house, come on people. Great beer selection, food is great for a pub restaurant, don't expect fine dining. Also I don't know too many pubs that take reservation, so that isn't a big deal that they don't. Grab a beer, enjoy a burger and stop complaining about this great establishment.

Been meaning to post this for sometime. Just when you think it cannot get any worse, it does. Waitress, Anne, managed to overcharge my credit card tip. Called manager when I noticed the discrepancy and was told I had to wait about 7 business days for it to be credited back to my account. Are you kidding me? How about, "I'm so sorry and cannot believe this happened" and FIRE Anne for stealing from your customers. Unbelievable. Hold onto your receipts and verify everything from this place. Where are the owners?

Agreed with both high and low reviews. This part of Ashland definitely needed a restaurant like this - particularly during the holiday season when Rt 9 is crazy with shoppers. And the staff was great, I saw servers singing and dancing with each other, not as part of a rehearsed routine but rather spontaneously. They were just having fun! Service was terrific. The environment wasn't too loud, pretty hopping for a Wednesday night. We sat at a high top but the big oval bar looked very inviting. The food was good. Not great. Not bad. The onion rings were just fair. The salmon was good. The steak tips w/ Gorgonzola were good, tender but not a whole lot of flavor. Fries were ok. The sweet chili chicken wrap was "slightly above average," but the tater tots that came with it were slightly undercooked. (Bonus points for offering tater tots as a side, at least) If you're used to drinking mostly bud light and Heineken, the "craft" beer list is a good one. Don't confuse this place with a Yard House or Armsby Abbey though. I have had a lot of craft beers and I think they only had 3 beers I hadn't had before. Call it an elementary introduction to the world of micro brews. Overall, I'll go back, but I live about 10 minutes away. It's great to have another option away from the mall/shoppers world area. A previous reviewer compared it to John Stone's Inn which is more expensive, but the food and atmosphere there are also better. Serviceable now, the food could use a half step kick up, and if they expand the beer selection, I'd give it a very solid 4-5!

Welcome addition to the Ashland area and much improved over that empty Italian place that used to be there. My wife and I have been there 3 or 4 times since it's opened and each time have been satisfied. The food isn't fine dining, but there's a good variety, it's quick, and acceptably tasty. A lot of reviewers compared it as a step below Stone's, but I'd much rather go here.

What was the Phantom Gourmet talking about? The beer list is great, and the people are nice but the food is simply awful. Back up the Sysco truck and throw it on a plate. Based on our five orders, the meatballs, fries, tater tots, and ribeye are all items to run from. Grilled cheese burger was pretty good and the steak tips were ok. While people have complained about the decor, I will say that it was clear that a lot of effort was put in. Same with the beer and same with the staff. They need to put some love into the food. Use some fresh ingredients; make some things from scratch; maybe start with the bar food since that is the focal point. Bad ribeye cuts with nasty frozen fries (that even my 11 year old would not eat) for $19 won't bring people back.

We tried it for the first time on a Friday evening. We arrived at 5:30 and had about a 25 minute wait. The staff provided us a very accurate wait time. The decor was very nice. The beer/wine menu was extensive for this area and the prices were extremely cheap. My wife had the apple cider which she enjoyed. The food was ok. I had the meatball sub. The meatballs were fine, nothing special. The bread was not toasted so that took away from it. I ordered it with tater tots, but was brought fries. I told the server who told me they would correct it, but never did. The fries are frozen. A fresh cut fry would be welcome. My wife had a chicken club sandwich. The chicken was well cooked and well seasoned, but the bacon was missing. The kids has pizza and grill cheese and enjoyed it, and that is a big plus to come to a place the kids will actual eat at. The service was mixed. The time estimates when we arrived were accurate. Our drinks were brought quickly. Soft drinks were refilled without asking. However, my dinner order wasn't corrected even though I was told it would be. And, the server took to long to return to the table at the end of the meal to get the check paid. It was certainly good enough to give it another try, and I really hope they succeed and get a little better because Ashland needs a place like this, local restaurant, little different from the Framingham chains, that is close by and very reasonably priced. I would have given 3.5 stars if able.

Had to meet an associate for a quick business lunch and we decided on the old 99, now the Ashland Ale House in the corner of the Market Basket plaza in Ashland bordering on the gritty side of Framingham. What a terrific job was done on the interior. The layout and noise levels were all acceptable. (just loud enough to drown out the conversation from the family in the next booth) The decor was colorful exciting and friendly and everyone on the staff was happy, talkative and responded to what was happening at the table. It's obvious this place was built as a neighborhood joint. And that's exactly what it is. Food was good, well presented, choices galore, priced reasonable for this economy. The sport's were on the TV's, KENO everywhere for the barfly's, and great craft beer choices to bring in the younger set. In a world of cookie cutter corporate restaurants with auto-matron waitstaff (see Rt 9) This place is an independent restaurant that stands out - especially the staff. I will go back

Great place. Arrived at 6pm on a friday there was a short wait but found two seats at the large central bar that I took instead. Excellent beer menu with lots on tap. Food was good. Delicious calzone and turkey burger. Food was on par and then some for what I expect from a pub. They had a wide range of things to choose from on the menu and it all sounded good. Prices were on par with the quality, $9 burgers, $12-$16 entrées, $10 pizzas, and $9 salads. I will definitely be back as its a very hip spot in an area that doesnt have anything else like it.

I just had lunch here for the third time. Good burgers but nothing else about the experience impressed me; least of all our waitress. I've had the same waitress all three times. I take into consideration that a person can have a bad day, but when you get the same result from the same person three times in a row it's not an aberration. She couldn't have been less attentive. Given that the weather was terrible, there were only a handful of other diners so you can't blame the terrible service on the waitress being overwhelmed. The "fresh pot" of coffee was served lukewarm and we had to ask for more, without it being offered. My fries were barely warm but no waitress anywhere to ask how our meals were. My dining partner asked for a substitution for part of her meal and said waitress seemed to be annoyed at the request. Of course we left a tip but it wasn't much deserved. This place is good for their craft beers (hence the two stars) but leaves much to be desired in all other areas. It's time for management to wake up and make some necessary changes. This place, as is unfortunately often typical with new establishments, has gone downhill since it opened.

They are new, so there is hope that the kitchen will step up its game in both the quality of food and the speed with which they serve it. We arrived on a Friday night and were promptly seated. Drink orders were taken and the wait began...It took 1 hr for the Kitchen to deliver our dishes and half of them were cold and under cooked. Clearly, the Kitchen was fully in the weeds and unable to deliver. Hopefully, they find someone to take charge of the line. Service was friendly but the food awful. We won't be going back anytime soon.

Stopped in for lunch after church and we were pleasantly impressed. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. Definitely a pub feel with the bar in the center. I was comfortably with the feel. We were greeted by our waiter ( Jeffery). Pleasant, knowledgeable and easy to speak with. He recommended the chowder which we had was excellent. My husband had the big fish sandwich and it was a big piece of fish. Light batter which is the way he likes it. I had chicken wings orange glazed very good. They also had Angry Orchid on tap which I like. Overall experience was very good. As we are in that area frequently we will visit again soon and would recommend to family and friends

I was not impressed with the food. It seemed like the buffalo tenders were dipped in something sweet. The blue cheese was watery. Burgers were disappointing...I was better off with Wendy's or Five Guys. Onion rings and French fries were definitely prepackaged frozen and the soda was flat...save your money! Go somewhere else!

First time at Ashland Ale House last night. Over-all, it's good, and a very welcome addition to the Ashalnd/Hollistom area. At 5:30 on Saturday night, the place was packed, but we were able to get a seat quickly. Our server was very pleasant, friendly, and knowledgeable. I had the Gorgonzola Steak tips. The were cooked as requested, but I was sorry that I didn't add a sauce to the tips as our server suggested. They were a little bland. I really enjoyed the baked sweet potato as a side as well as the veg of the day which was green beans. As an app, a friend and I split an order of Sweet Chili Calamari which they were offering as a dinner special. The calamari was cooked perfectly, and was very tasty. Our two companions had the American Chop Suey special. It was a a huge portion, but needed more sauce. Our server was happy to supply a side dish of tomato sauce for them. I don't think that they'd order it again, although they demolished the garlic bread. Good beer selection, nice looking bar. Very loud inside, but expected for a large open brew pub with a huge bar in the middle. So to summarize, great service, good atmosphere, good beer selection, but the food could use a little (not much) improvement.

Big room with a big bar. Staff was friendly, but that's to be expected in the first week of business. Beer list, while extensive barely had much to offer by way of true craft beers. The food was below average. Most in my group described it a s bland and lackluster. I hope they do well, but the food will definitely need improvement.

My parents and I decided to try the Ashland Ale House out tonight. It was SO good! We used to enjoy going to the Ninety Nine that used to be there, but this place is better. The restaurant's atmosphere is relaxed, the staff is all friendly, and all of our food was great tasting and well portioned. Definitely plan on returning.

I like the Ashland Ale House a lot. It's a much better choice that the other Pub-type restaurants in the area. My only complaint is that the entrees are consistently served too cold. I would like another minute in the microwave or oven. The app's and sandwiches are great. Overall, this is a great place to get together with friends for a casual night out.

My boyfriend and I checked it out last week and we liked it. I do wish they had more of a selection of craft beers on tap, as opposed to just having them in bottles. I love Clown Shoes anything, but they only carried it in a 22 oz. bottle, which I found a little disappointing. However, we both enjoyed our beer and the appetizer we split and we will definitely be back to try more. We read that they have entertainment and karaokee on the weekend, so hopefully thats true!

Decided to try this because it was close to home and we have enjoyed other "brew house" style restaurants. Got seated quickly and the waitress was quickly at our table. Good first impression. Beer choices were good and came in big glasses. We didn't order appetizers although my son ordered a cup of the clam and scallop chowder. The food took longer than I expected, and some of it was cold, which makes me think it had been sitting for a while. Out of four meals ordered, there was disappointment on every plate. Cold rice on one, cold steak tips and no tarter sauce on another, badly made sandwich with missing toppings, and the clam chowder was forgotten. Since the waitress didn't come back right away we had to get up and walk to where she was hanging out to ask for the chowder. There was entertainment that night which was pretty good, I don't know the name of the group. Personally I get annoyed with live music during dinner because its usually too loud but this wasn't bad. At the end if the meal the waitress brought the bill without asking if we wanted dessert. She never asked if we wanted refills on drinks either. I got the impression we were her final table of the evening and we were getting the bums rush. The two stars are for the beer, the ambiance, the entertainment. Not sure if I would go again, maybe just to sit at the bar and do apps.
