Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Everything I've tried so far has been really good. Prices are reasonable, too. I highly recommend the cheese pizza and gyro sandwich! Both are amazing. Staff is ridiculously friendly. I feel welcome all the time. It makes me not want to leave. The interior is clean and simple, like those small East Coast dining places you see in the movies. It's a nice feeling. You can call in and order take out, but I recommend coming in for both the experience and the combo specials they have posted on the walls. They also have a pretty good-looking list for desserts, smoothies, and frozen yogurt that I have yet to try. I will report back.

A neighborhood joint that offers a large and diverse menu, decent prices, friendly service and edible food. I've been here for pizza (average) and when I was craving a tuna sub (a bit watery but edible). Nothing special here. Next time I will try the falafel. They did overcharge me though.
(2)Laura D.
The Grilled Chicken Burger has a lot of flavor but not a lot of chicken. Also, I think the prices might be slightly higher than listed on the menu...

Charlie's has quickly become one of my favorite comfort food stops in Allston-Brighton. Convenient, reliable, and consistently delicious, Charlie's take out is a staple for entertaining our visiting friends. Open late Thursday through Saturday, their pizza is one of the best delights after a night out drinking in Allston. Highly recommend the falafel rollup for something different from your typical pizza place, but their marinara sauce is still world class.

Standard take out, hit or miss, decent to order late night, and I have a penchant for their pizza crust. However, after multiple errors including it being implied that I may be lying about them canceling my order and having to wait literally hours and hours for them to verify that I was telling the truth before refunding me, and then another time being hung up on when calling because delivery was taking well over an hour, I think they're allergic to customer service. People who treat customers with disrespect really irritate me, so no thanks, I'm good.

I use to love their food and would order it maybe 2 times a week . Thier food use to be fresh and they could change little things like no tomatoes . But the last 3 times I have ordered I was called back and told they couldn't make a spinach pie without tomatoes meaning they didn't make it fresh or didnt feel like it and it came to me as a hard pie and cold . Their shwarma and falafel roll use to be my favorite but the last few times I asked no tomatoes and it was full of it as well as other stuff they never put in before and the falafel was rocks . They are not consistent with what they put in it it seems . Just w.e they feel like at the time . My other favorite the grape leaves this time had almost no stuffing and the leaves were so raw it was like chewing hay and again . It came to mw different again with whole sliced tomatoes on top of tabolli which I dont mind but it was covering my food . I am very unhappy with them latley and miss how they were . I am hoping its just lazy workers and be fixed and not new management because it had potential. Do not think I will be back tho and its sad with the meal delivered that is INEDIBLE! Just tossed it in the trash . Lost my buisness.

Buyer beware! If you order from this restaurant your food may never come and you may still be charged! I made an order through foodler last night at this restaurant. It was for one pizza. After a little over an hour I called to see if it was on it's way. They said they were experiencing delays due to traffic. I called back again after more than 2 hours and requested to have my order cancelled and refunded. From their response, It appeared to me that they had completely forgotten about my order, but they promised to refund me and offered an empty apology. I checked my account today and found I had still been charged in full. I checked my receipt on foodler to see that the charge had been adjusted in the base amount of the order leaving a charge for tip and delivery. For an order that never even came!

I recently moved to Allston and have been looking for a good food place for cheap. All I wanted for dinner was a bacon hamburger and French fries. We ordered and the food came as expected. But they definitely skimped on the bacon.. Not even a whole slice was on the burger... Ok then... Hopefully I wasn't charged anything extra for that..... The burger itself was OK. Not great but not awful. The fries suck. They are literally the crinkle fries you can buy at the supermarket. So bland, no flavor AT ALL, not even salt. 3 stars because they *mostly* got my order right. But I think I'll stick to Rock City Pizza from now on instead of wasting my money here.
(3)Tony L.
Ordered delivery, food was pretty good but was missing the bacon I added on and the extra sauce I added.
(3)Astra G.
Not bad but will probably try another place next time. 2.5 but I'll be nice and round up to a 3. Got delivery recently for a buffalo chicken sandwich, gyro platter, and fried mushrooms. Our gyro was very mediocre and had hot soggy lettuce which I guess happens with delivery but they weren't far away from us at all. The buffalo chicken sandwich was ok. The best were the fried mushrooms which were still piping hot and had decent size mushrooms with marinara sauce. FYI: 20% off for new customers with seamless.
(3)Brenda V.
The owner, Charlie, made me this delicious Veggie wrap. He had me try the veggies and asked if I wanted him to add more to it. It was perfect! The prices are ridiculously low, and they have a great variety of things to try. Also, Charlie is ridiculously handsome haha.
(5)Ann Marie S.
Nicest guys ever! Really delicious chicken shwarma that will leave you smelling like garlic for weeks, but it's okay, it will only serve you in remembering the glorious shwarma! Their hummus is equally heaven sent and you can buy it separately by the pound, I can honestly say I haven't gotten hummus from the supermarket since. Bonus, when I lived across the street, I'd call on those nights I'd come home at 2am and they would stay open an extra few minutes so I could get a few slices.
(4)Katie M.
Charlie's is great. I've lived in that neighborhood twice during my time in Boston and always make sure to stop in when I'm in the neighborhood. Their steak and cheese is awesome. I love the fries. Seems like I'm the minority here but I think they're great. What really puts them above the rest is the staff. Anyone I've ever interacted with there has been nothing but polite and friendly. They seem to really care about the food and their customers. I'd have given 4 stars for the food because at the end of the day it is just a little pizza/sub shop but the friendly staff bumps them up to 5 stars in my book.
(5)Chris R.
Decent little pizza/sub/salad/fried stuff place. They also do some Greek and Middle Eastern food which is what I would go for. Friendly staff and the eating area is kinda funky with TVs and a couple La-z-Boys. Borderline greasy vibe but in no way gross or sketchy. Good option for late night or a quick dinner. No AmEx but they take other cards.
(4)Kim B.
I had a wine night. I had a lot of wine. I had a .4 mile walk home, and wanted pizza. Charlie's was on the way, it smelled too good to pass up. They have a $7 minimum so I used quarters to pay. It was very very good for late night pizza. I am not sure what that says but I will definitely try them sober soon.
(4)Brian G.
Charlies is open late, and has all of the typical offerings of the Italian/Mediterranean fast food places that have proliferated in the Boston area. The guys that work here are really chill and the food is always solid, if unspectacular.
(3)MacKenzie M.
I have only gotten charlies for delivery orders- and the food is excellent. Unfortunately delivery takes a minimum of an hour regardless of when or what you order. Delivery has taken as much as an hour and 40 minutes for a salad at 3pm on a Tuesday.
(2)Kaveh Z.
It is alright. They are almost always open and you have a different choices. Basic Pizzas are ok. subs are good.
(3)Hialy G.
not sure why there are so many negative reviews -- i freaking love this place. it's not the best quality, but it's open hella late, has decent pizza (i'm a new yorker, so trust.), has a wide variety to choose from, has great/fast service, and is super cheap. top recommendations: any of the mediterranean wraps, grape leaves, small pizzas, fried mushrooms. you're welcome.
(4)Melissa S.
When I was pregnant, my ultimate craving was hummus from Charlie's. Every Monday, I would go pick up a pound of it! I'm not proud to admit that I usually devoured it within a few days of picking it up. Charlie's was also our go to pizza joint. My husband and I have since moved out of Boston, but recently made a detour into the city just to pick up some hummus from Charlie's. It was every bit as good as I remembered!
(5)Pearl T.
I live about 3 and a half hops away from Charlie's, and I always meant to try it but only recently got around to doing so. $8 for a beef shawarma roll up. Didn't come with anything else. The sauces and whatever else in it were only okay. The beef was very tough and hard to chew through. The pita was thin and unremarkable. You would think I'd enjoy it more in my inebriated state (where my standards for food are unusually low!), but I didn't. Conversely, James D., who has lived in Israel and has high standards for Middle Eastern food, refused a second bite of it. However, I've accompanied my drunk roommate there multiple times for pizza and she says it's extremely greasy and is "the best hangover food." She also says their eggplant parmesan sandwich is good, and appreciates their very late night hours. The verdict: Is Sab's closed? Go here for a greasy slice of pizza and you'll survive. Might get steatorrhea the next day though.

We ordered delivery again last night, and the food was decent, and arrived when it said it would. However, I received a phone call, and I expected it to be the delivery person just saying the food arrived, but instead I got a gruff voice asking if I ordered from Charlie's and what my apartment # was. I told him and he basically shouted at me, "No it's not!" Um... yes. It is. I'm there now... and I live here. He then confirmed he had the wrong address (ya think?) And that he would be here shortly. When the food arrived, he was actually pretty nice and offered to bring the food up to my apartment, but assured me I had "no idea," when he told me the story of going to the wrong building and having to climb five flights of stairs. Sorry you had a rough one dude, but you don't need to yell at me and tell me I don't know where I live. Next time, maybe confirm with Foodler before you climb the stairs at the building with the broken elevator?
(3)Joe J.
Service has gone downhill here, big time. Ordered delivery last night, came after one hour and ten minutes, was quoted 45 minutes. Driver wouldn't even come up to my apartment door, called and asked me to meet him downstairs. Walk downstairs, he is parked outside and SLOWLY gets out of his car when he sees me at the door and SLOWLY walks the food over to me. It has already been 25 minutes after the food was supposed to be here. Guy should have brought it up to my apartment. Maybe the key is to not tip ahead of time on CC orders. Pita bread was stale, too.
(3)Brian P.
The first time I went, I got the gyros, french fries and pasta. Weird mix, I know. The gyro was okay, I really like tsaziki sauce so i got it again the second time. The french fries were mediocre for the price, they were crinkle fries, the ones you buy frozen at the store. The spaghetti was also meh, but I wasn't expecting it to be good since they are a jack of all trades but master of none. I've also had pizza from charlies. It was the doughy, super greasy kind so if that's what you're craving, this is the place for you. meat lovers is pretty tasty, same with the brothers special(?) one with lettuce. but again, it's a TON of oil.. as for service, the guys are nice. and by nice I mean just keep to themselves but serve you relatively promptly. no fluff. overall, good for late night drunk food, big menu, greasy and not too expensive. it could be a nightmare if you are indecisive or fickle, but a great place if you have a variety of cravings.
(3)Tiffany H.
Charlie's has been my late-night go-to place for a couple of month's now...partly because I'm usually drunk and partly because I thought the guy behind the counter was cute and that somehow translated to the food being good. Since I've had quite a bit of their offerings let me break it down for you: ANY TYPE OF SUB: expect one piece of meat, a sprinkle of toppings (I literally counted SIX black olives once!!) and the thinnest spread you could ever imagine. A five year old could eat a whole sub and still want a snack after. A complete waste of money. (Even the steak/cheese was thin thin thin. Awful) The pizza: greasy. I've had better, I've had worse, it's middle of the road. The chicken shawarma dinner: the best damn chicken shawarma I've ever had. Ever. Amazing. French fries/fried food: completely boring. Waste of your time/money/stomach space. The smoothies: substandard. Nice they have a banana flavor on a hot day. But it's literally just a sugary frozen toothache waiting to happen. Skip it. And finally....the SERVICE: THE WORST SERVICE EVERRRRRRRRR. I can't even tell you how many times they have forgotten to make something I've ordered and never once offered to throw in a little something extra or comp anything for it. And I don't mean like hey, they forgot my salad dressing. I mean THEY FORGET ENTIRE SUBS AND PIZZAS. Also, the 'cute' guy behind the counter - he's a complete dick. I'm not sure if I can write dick on Yelp. Be he deserves it. He has the absolute WORST attitude, and last time I visited I'm pretty sure he THREW my change on the counter at me and gave me a ridiculous amount of attitude when I asked for a straw. Sorry I needed a strawwww for my smoothie, dude. My bad. I would've spared this place from my review had my last experience not been so offensive. I literally left there feeling like I had just been assaulted. Considering I just found a gem nearby that delivers, I can safely say I will never go back to Charlies.
(2)Karen R.
I decided to check out this place for just a slice of pizza but worst idea ever. It was burnt. Doesn't make me incline to try other things on the menu if they can't get a slice right.

I live with 3 other people. We order from this place pretty regularly. And therefore have absolutely no reason to try and "trick" them into refunding our money. They have great burgers. They have had issues in the past with being late, not showing up, or forgetting/bringing incorrect items. We all work in the restaurant industry and are pretty understanding people. But tonight they lost ALL of our business for good as well as anyone we know. We ordered burgers and chicken fingers. The burgers were great as usual but most of the chicken fingers were not fried all the way. Huge patches of the breading were mushy, cold, pink in the area, and blatantly undercooked. I tried to contact them and got a busy signal so I contacted the food service that handles their online ordering. I asked if they could credit just the chicken finger portion as everything else was perfect or allow us a credit for future orders (not expecting any problems as frequent customers) They got back to me and relayed that the restaurant would refund the entire order IF I WOULD BRING THE CHICKEN FINGERS TO THE RESTAURANT TO PROVE THAT THEY WERE UNDERCOOKED. Because I obviously ordered delivery just so I would have to take the train back up to them for THEIR MISTAKE. I am absolutely flabbergasted by this. Shame on us for putting up with their poor service in the past, it only allowed them to think what they do is acceptable. Anyone who works in food understands how ridiculous this request is. Again, if we weren't frequent customers we wouldn't be so aggravated. We have no desire to try and scam a crappy little fast food shop. The prices are reasonable which is why we started going to begin with so trying to scam them out of money is the farthest thing from our minds. What a shame. I highly advise you pay the extra for better quality food (that won't give you the runs) and service. If I could give it less than one star I would!!!!!!
(1)Big S.
i was never a big fan of this place. i lived here for 2 years and tried to not go there. the pizza just isn't good. they are open late so you can grab a slice which is great, but you aren't getting good quality slices. they do have great chicken fingers which can be hard to find. but overall not worth it with so many other options around this location.
(2)Tommy C.
If you want an overpriced sandwich that has no meat in it, order one from here (really, it's more expensive than subs from other restaurants in the area, so I thought it would be large and/or good). Plus is that the chicken was not frozen tasted and even seemed like they might have breaded it in house. If you want you garden variety garbage greek/mediterranean tasteslikeitsfromabox pizza, then grab one here. Perhaps maybe their other food is good, but they should stick to that then and totally scrap half their menu. The service was very good, so it bums me to slam them, but I always wonder how these places that serve awful pizza/subs in the area stay in business and how they all seem to taste equally poor.

We were up in Boston visiting friends for the weekend, and after being out all day we weren't in the mood to go out for dinner. Our friends don't really cook, so laptops were opened and takeout options starting flying. We narrowed it down to a craving for Middle Eastern cuisine, and cheap, but the options available in their area are numerous and we had difficulty choosing one. Why did we choose Charlie's Pizza & Cafe? Because our friend loved the fact that their menu had a separate section for bagels. No one ordered bagels, but at least we had a place and food was en route. We pretty much ordered the same thing: two chicken shawarma dinners, one chicken shawarma roll up, one beef shawarma roll up, and we shared the special veggie platter with hummus, baba ghanoush, tabouli, grape leaves, and falafel. The dinners came with rice, tabouli, and hummus, so we had plenty of food. Delivery arrived a few minutes early, thankfully since we were all pretty hungry. But despite the pangs in my stomach, I can't say that I would order from here again for Middle Eastern food. The chicken shawarma I had was grilled well, not dry or anything, and there was a decent portion of it. SO MUCH RICE, but that's to be expected. The tabouli was alright, but there was a tad too much vinegar, and I like more tomatoes. The hummus? Watery, which means A LOT of tahini and not much chickpeas, and I just didn't find it very tasty because of that. The baba ghanoush was pretty good, and the grape leaves were fine. The falafel was HUGE, each piece practically the size of my palm, and that was probably the only part that they really did well since they were crispy, but still a bit moist, and had a great garlic flavor. But I'm Greek, and Charlie's just didn't satisfy my taste for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. But at the very least so that others know, it's pretty decent for a place that bills itself as a pizza and cafe joint.
(2)Jim S.
The food here is great and the delivery is always on time. Seating inside is really nice if you plan on eating there and is very clean too. I would recommend this place for late night delivery.
(4)Michelle R.
For what it is it's a really solid place! Every undergrad or graduate student living in Allston on a budget should try the food here. Like everyone says, this isn't gourmet. Don't try to pull a Sally and change bits of your order. Just stick with what is written on the menu. My personal favorites: shawarma, greek salad with grilled chicken, and tabouli. Oh god get the tabouli! I've been to Israel twice and I know what good Middle Eastern food tastes like. Charlies has it. Unfortunately the pita bread is nothing to write home about... but overall it is definitely worth hitting up Charlies for some takeout if you are in town.
(3)Sebastian M.
the pizza is just fine pizza- nothing too special ~ just an ordinary sub shop. the only thing that is what I would consider phenomenal would be their hummus and tabouli.
(3)Taylor T.
I like their pizza (though $2.50 for a slice is a little high, but the credit card minimum is $5 so I can get two slices and use my card) and french fries. I haven't tried anything else as of yet. They're open until 2am Thursday-Saturday which is super convenient because that is typically the time of night I am drunk and hungry. I am giving them five stars because of that. I just moved next door on the 1st and have already tormented them after having far too much to drink twice. I want to bring my laptop here to do some school work since they have wifi (and comfy looking bar stool seats at high top tables in the windows) but I haven't noticed any outlets and my laptop doesn't last more than 20 minutes unplugged. Next time I'm there I'll ask, probably. The staff is sort of intimidating but they're friendly once you start talking to them. I am also terribly socially awkward and this probably doesn't help anything. I also suck at Yelping
(5)Chris R.
Very friendly staff, fast service for call ahead, and the pizza was better than most in the area but didn't blow me away.
(4)Mazzy N.
Ordered an eggplant parm sub, mozzerella sticks, onion rings, and baklava. The delivery guy apparently didn't like his tip because he told me to "keep it - he didn't want it". Hmm ok? Bad service already. I opened the package and the marina sauce was all over the place - see photo. Next I open the baklava. I couldn't even tell if it really was what I ordered or if they made a mistake. It looked like a pastry I never saw before. There was green clumps all over it. Have no idea what the green was, but I was disgusted - see my photo. It also fell apart in 2 pieces and the inside was just as gross. Had to throw it away without trying. The eggplant parm had no cheese on it, was not toasted as told, and looked as though it was very old. Oh and did I mention, there was a small black hair in it? (not my shade). Everything smelled nasty and I was afraid to try it. I took a bite and everything was cold. Had to throw everything away. Don't go here - everything is old and absolutely nasty.
(1)Evan R.
Okay.... so Charlie's isn't super great. But I've got a major soft spot for them because I lived a block away for about 1 year. I was a total regular and frequently picked up my order from Charlie himself (who's a cool guy). The pizza..... not so great. Not as bad as Natalie's, but not a draw. My old standby was the falafel wrap -- a nice little $5 dinner. When I was boozin' it up and ready to eat like a slob, I'd go for a cheeseburger plate and pig it out. Nothing special about most of their plates... just a big ol' pile. They don't exactly aim for high quality, but they are surprisingly consistent. Oh... and did I mention they're open niiiiice and late Thur - Sat?
(3)Carlisle M.
disgusting food. rude driver who was late. food was not even warm, much less hot. pizza was overcooked and tough. chicken was dry and old. never again. ever.
(1)Erin G.
I've never written a yelp review before, but the experience I had with Charlie's Pizza today was disconcerting. I am a loyal customer at this establishment. The employees are certainly surly, but it is the nearest restaurant to my apartment. I have even been the mayor of Charlie's on foursquare, twice. Unfortunately for me, I lost my cell phone, and was forced to call in my order using google voice. Apparently some crappy BU kid has been prank calling them using the google calling service, to the point that he spoke to me rudely and gruffly, after letting the phone ring for a long time. I ordered my steak bomb (which is not bomb), and he said "yeah? well why don't you come get it now?" I agreed, despite still being in my pajamas. After getting dressed I make my way down there, and say I'm there to pick up my order. Here's where it rules. He implies that I have been prank phone calling them, and that he didn't make my order because of that. He further goes on to say in a condescending manner that he's sorry he was rude and ask if I want to wait. Of course I don't want to wait, dingdong. That is why I called ahead. He goes on and on about the number, which I explain is the number that shows up for anyone using google to make a phone call, not just some immature students. He doesn't seem to buy it, I'm made to feel like a bad person for wanting a sub that DOES NOT EVEN TASTE GOOD TO BEGIN WITH. Needless to say, I will never frequent this establishment again, and feel I have squandered hundreds of dollars there in the past. Great way to treat someone that comes to your restaurant more than once a week, I hope you feel good about making a young lady feel crummy about herself for not having a cell phone.
(1)Lauren C.
I've always loved Charlie's, but today I recieved the most terrible service I've ever had. I ordered food at 9:30 and was told it would be about 30 to 45 minutes. After almost an hour and a half, I called and said that I really love their food and have been a loyal customer, but this time I've been waiting too long and I want this order to be free (any normal restaurant comps the food for you when you wait double the time you should, especially when you're a repeat customer). Charlie, the owner, told me I had not been waiting as long as I said, that it was out of his control, and that he had more important things to do than argue with me because he had a line of people to wait on. He offered me a 10% discount on my next order and said I could "take it or leave it". Finally the driver came, and I explained how disappointed I was. I didn't pay for the food, but I gave the driver a big tip. The driver came back a few minutes later and explained that if I didn't pay for the food, Charlie would make him pay for it. Obviously I didn't want to drag this poor guy into it, so I paid him. I called Charlie back to explain what had happened, and he said he had already called the cops and that they should be on their way to my house, then hung up on me. Charlie, the cops in Boston have better things to do on a Friday night than chase down a $7 salad, so they never came. Also, a Greek salad comes with Greek dressing, not Caesar, and the pizza has never been that great. But to their credit, they make some of the best Baba Ghanoush I've ever had, and they do a great job with the chicken.
(1)John G.
i order from here somewhat regularly, and the pizza is always ok (for a Jersey transplant it's mediocre, but OK for Allston/Brighton). The service, however, is literally the worst i have ever experienced from any restaurant ever. When i complained, i was hung up on; I called back and complained and was told to "call the owner in Florida" (I certainly hope he is reading, I asked for his number and was asked "do you want your pizza or not?"). When I asked for his number the person on the phone again asked "do you want your fucking food or not" , when i said yes, they said "OK, then wait" and hung up. I understand the stress of working in a kitchen, I've been there and done that, however the fact that they treated a customer with that attitude is absurd. That person does not deserve to work for an establishment that works as hard as Charlie's does. I will never order from this restaurant again (he was on the phone on 12/12 @ 11:38, 11:43 &11:45).
(1)Lily S.
I'm only giving this place 3 stars instead of 2 because after reading some of the other reviews im guessing this place has much better middle eastern food than american...so maybe i shouldnt judge them solely on one bad experience. I got a calzone from here, which on the upside was huge, but on the downside sucked pretty bad. The oddest thing was the dough...it wasnt like regular pizza dough you expect on a pizza or calzone. so this was no bueno in my book. Also, as i mentioned, it was huge, but when i bit into it, it turned out that only the center was actually filled with toppings...the perimeter of the calzone was just dough. i also got their "spicy" fries, which were decently spicy--no complaints here. The guy working there was nice too...he noticed i was watching the insider on their tv while waiting and he was kind enough to turn up the volume. so if you're looking for good middle eastern food, i guess this is the place for you, but if you want an old fashioned calzone, you're better off going elsewhere.
(3)Emily K.
I will never eat here again. When I placed my order for chicken fingers I saw one guy drop a chicken finger from the freezer and PUT IT BACK! So disappointing since Charlie's is convenient and open late, but I'm not risking getting sick from unsanitary food handling measures.

Charlie's is on the short list of things I love about my neighborhood. Nice joint run by nice folks that makes *great* food. The pizza is my stand out favorite - loads of toppings, savory sauce, plenty of grease, best crust I've had anywhere (chewy, flavorful, a little crispy at the very edge). Is it haute cuisine pizza? No, it's neighborhood pizza and it's darn good. The shwarma roll up is a luncheon favorite for me: plenty of well seasoned chicken in a pita with veggies and hummus. The tabbouleh is out of this world. The hamburger is cheap, and for the price, it's great. Fresh veggies on a substantial roll. The patty is a little flimsy, but a hamburger meal for under ten dollars, -- I'm not going to complain. I've gotten food from Charlie's many times before and I'll be eating their excellent cooking many times in the future.

I like Charlie's for their convenience, friendliness and falafels. I can literally just walk down my street in my pajamas at some odd hour and soon be indulging in tahini-soaked goodness. I always call ahead for pick-up with the same specific falafel add-ons, and they've never screwed it up. I also haven't really waited longer than 10 minutes for my order to be ready, and the staff is very friendly whenever I come in. After ordering the same thing a few times in a row, they recognized and remembered me and would always ask how I'm doing. There are places I go to on a daily basis where the employees still don't know my name/order... I haven't had much else on their menu besides the falafel wrap, and I wasn't totally blown away by their baba ghanoush. However, their falafels are definitely better than Falafel Corner in Cambridge and Garlic 'N Lemons in Allston in my opinion. The atmosphere inside is kind of hit or miss, so I do prefer calling ahead and just picking up my food. At night, there are your typical drunk people lingering and being loud, while during the day it is a bit more relaxed. Overall, Charlie's is great and I'm definitely going to miss going there when I move!
(3)David B.
This place is truly spectacular. A wide range of standard dishes with some awesome middle eastern options mixed in. I tend to hit the chicken shawarma 8/10 times, 2/10 ill get pizza.
(4)Ben R.
The food is good, it really is, and not just the usual pizza place stuff but also some of the specialty stuff they make. But you take your chances when you order. After getting a pizza instead of the calzone I ordered, I swore off the place for a long time. Decided to give them another shot and the exact same thing happened again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, there are plenty of other pizza places in the area.
(3)Eric S.
I went there again yesterday. They improved their sauce (less acidic than before). The food was great so I'm upping it to 5 stars from 4
(5)Chris C.
Cheap prices & decent selection. The staff were nice, but were confused by an online order for pickup. This caused a delay in my food because I think they had actually given it to a driver who had already left the place although the guy wouldn't admit that was the case. Instead I had to wait 5 minutes while he "located" my order. The only other weird thing is the hamburg pizza topping has a cinnamon smell and taste to it. I didn't mind it, but it was not what I was expecting.
(3)Erik O.
Place Rocks. perfect late night greasy greek pizza joint. Staff if super nice. They have a some good fro yo too. They deliver, and have online ordering.
(5)Brooke W.
The guys at the shop are genuine friendly people! Their hummus wrap is my favorite. Their chicken fingers, burgers, and middle eastern foods are delicious. Their pizza is so-so. I wouldn't recommend their salads.
(3)Stephanie M.
I used to live just around the corner from this not so pleasant little sub shop. While doing my laundry at the laundromat next door, I'd usually pop in and grab a quick lunch, or on nights I was feeling particularly lazy my roommates and I would order take out. For the most part they got to know me and would almost predict exactly what I was going to order. But they'd never do it with a smile. The guys that worked the counter always skeezed me out. Overly pleasant when I was alone, and by pleasant I just mean they didn't tell me to fuck off with their eyes, then if I had a male with me they'd turn into real asses. Manners only come out when boobs are involved. The food was never anything to write home about, and the customer service was sub-par at best.
(1)Brian B.
Plenty of Flavorful Variety and Friendly Service I've been living a couple of blocks from Charlie's for four years now, and it's never skipped a beat. It's the perfect spot for some late night grub on the weekend. The pizza and subs are good, and I've recently discovered their calzones. If you're nearby, definitely stop into Charlie's.
(4)Jamie H.
pretty standard american fare, but always good. they do have one of the best garden salads in the area, and you can't go wrong with the $3 cheeseburger. the subs and pizza are decent, and delivery is fast. late night: cheap, fast, and they are open to 3pm
(3)Sadie M.
Mediocre food, served with a side order of contempt. The ONLY good thing on the menu at Charlie's also happens to be prepared and served by the only nice person there. Stop by in the morning for a filling, delicious breakfast sandwich on a bagel, and a cup of pretty good coffee, and say hi to Arz. You'll know it's Arz by the fluffiness of the eggs in the breakfast sandwich, and the fact that he's not about to spit in your face. If you go there and order from Arz, please tip him. Otherwise, I can't recommend that you eat at Charie's. Charlie's pizza is about the worst I've had in Boston. I've had the pizza on several occasions and it was consistently bad: greasy and tough, with cheese like rubber. Nine out of ten times, even the pies cooked to order are overdone. The menu includes a basic selection of sandwiches and other fare, including some Middle Eastern offerings, but none of it is great. In theory it might be possible to offset the poor quality of the food with a nice eating experience, but nothing about the service at Charlie's is nice. The employees hate their customers and they don't hide it. Charlie himself treats customers with open hostility. He's so hostile that it made me uncomfortable to be there. I had to stop going because I dreaded getting the stink eye from the proprieter -- who wants to patronize a place where you're not welcome the moment you set foot in the door? The only reason to eat at Charlie's is in the case of the apocalypse, and even then, only if you're 100% sure starving to death isn't an option.
(1)A R.
Okay so I used to live right around the corner from here and used to get food quite a decent amount. Granted I never had their middle eastern dishes which apparently everyone says to try. BUT! I do have to give kudos to their cheesesteak sandwich which is probably one of the best I've tried in all of Boston. Their pizza ain't too shabby either. Just make sure to not go after 1am on weekends or else you're bound to be surrounded by drunk Allston retards.
(3)Ed P.
Holy mixed bag Batman! Dry, bland, ego shattering rice pilaf, so so hummus, a meat pie that was edible, the best tabbouli I've ever had and amazing kabob chicken meat- moist, great seasoning, huge bites. I'll probably order again just for the bird, it was that good. Oh and no pita, WTF!
(2)Alex R.
The special veggie dinner plate is a hidden gem among the shawarma and kabobs! Te veggie plate is all Incredible flavors and so much food. Charlie hits this one out of the park.
(5)Daya P.
Fresh and delish as always. Price is reasonable too.
(5)Joe F.
It's a stone's throw away from my apartment and I won't go there. Coming from someone who likes pizza a lot that's saying something. It's pretty inconsistent, and the subs weren't stellar. Late night it gets a tad shady. I need to be REALLY hungry or really wasted to even consider this joint.
(2)Jimmy W.
I eat here almost every day. Great food, good guys behind the counter. Great pizza, calzones, steak bombs, chicken bombs, etc. & whatever the seasoning they put on the grilled chicken is great, esp w/ a little bit of their hummus... pasta is pretty bland, but everything else is great.
(5)Ben D.
There are two kinds of pizza I enjoy: quality and greasy. Charlie's definitely falls under the greasy category. I loved it. Definitely a pizza you need to fold the slices in half to eat in order to avoid a river of grease flowing down your arm. Delicious!
(4)Ben A.
STAY AWAY. My name is Ben and this is my story: Walked by here late on Saturday night and had the drunk-munchies so i ignored my best instincts and stopped into this run-down shanty. Upon entering, they told us: "slices only", despite the fact that they had neon signs advertising subs and sandwiches all over the windows. They get one star for abiding to my request for a cold-cut sub. There were a few drunk women with their tits hanging out, and the guy was too busy oggling them to pay much attention to the sub. In fact, he actually gave one of them a high five in the middle of the sandwich-making and then went back to making the sandwich. In other words he wasn't wearing gloves, and didn't wash his hands and was shaking hands with others. For all I know I could've gotten swine flu from eating that thing. Upon arriving home and unwrapping the sub I was blasted in the face with an unpleasant aroma of extremely cheap vinegar or something to that effect? (smelled more like garlic vinegar) The sub looked limp, as was the hard-on I had previously had for a sub, as the cold-cuts looked like they hadn't been refrigerated properly. The smell was so strong and so unappetizing that I threw it away without taking a bite despite the fact that I had drunk-munchies. My friends said their slices were lousy as well.. Never again!
(1)Amanda C.
This place doesn't have amazing food, but it's great if you just need a burger or sub after a long day, or if you're nursing a hangover. The guys who work here are extremely friendly and give great service.
(3)Kristen K.
Honestly one of my favorite places in Allston/Brighton. The people that work there are so nice. Their homemade hummus is the best I have ever tried. I crave it when I don't have it in my fridge.
(5)Lea C.
In fairness, I have only tried the Middle Eastern food due to a late-night craving and the general lack of reasonable delivery of that genre. I am from a part of the Midwest that has a seriously high concentration of Lebanese and Persian immigrants, and grew up with access to amazing Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food---so I have pretty high standards. I had the chicken shawarma plate and the falafel roll-up with babaganoush. On both counts it was the best I've had in Boston thus far. I'm pretty picky about falafel, and this was one of the best I've had anywhere. The chicken was super flavorful as was the tabbouleh. Both my bf (who hates hummus as a rule) and I loved the hummus, and I have yet to really like any of the hummus I've been served in Boston til this one. Not to mention, it was super cheap: $14 for the lot. Just a plate at Shawarma King would have cost more than that. And it was delivered. I will say that it took about an hour and 45 minutes for delivery, and I seriously live about a 5-minute drive away. So, don't expect the food to come fast. But, if you're not in a rush, it will be worth it. I'll surely be ordering again.
(4)Dee F.
Hummus was fantastic, greek salad was pretty good, pizza was okay, and cookie was nasty. I'd order again.
(3)Madhumitha N.
Yes should accept with others, Pizza was not that expensive if you have coupon you can use that. I ordered Garlic Pizza and Mozzarella sticks. Piza was very fresh and i can smell fresh garlic. Will try next time.. best thing is this place is opened late in night till 2 am
(4)Meleven K.
The only reason I am giving this place a 3 and not a 1 is because the Middle Eastern food is so good. If they only sold that I would give it a 5. If they didn't sell that stuff I would give it a 1. Hands-down they have the best chicken shawarma I've ever had. I've tried many places including The Shawarma King in Coolidge Corner (which sucks) and this is the most delicious. Their meat and spinach pies are great too, although sometimes they don't have one or the other available. Tabouli is awesome. Unfortunately their hummus is NOT good. It has a weird taste and texture, but the shawarma and everything else makes up for it. As for their pizza/subs/etc it's all crap.
(3)Stephanie P.
Charlie's is the best in the area for late-night pizza. Pizza is better than Sabatino's down the street and is EXACTLY what you want after a long day. Plus there are other options like Middle Eastern food, smoothies, and other basic American items on the menu. The staff is always friendly and if you get the privilege to meet Charlie himself, you'll love him! Super friendly and honestly wants to make sure everyone has a good experience.
(4)Dan T.
Food came almost an hour late, was ice cold, tasted terrible, and cost more than I was told it would.
(1)Mercer S.
Unfortunately, my original yelp about this restaurant is no longer valid. I have had some really bad experiences with them in the past two months. When you tell someone you're allergic to an item they put on a sandwich and to avoid putting the aforementioned ingredient on it, they should respect it right? Well, when I called and told them the ingredient was on my food and I couldn't eat it, they argued and said "Well, the chef put them on there, but then took it off, so it should be fine." It's an allergy, not a preference in taste. Aren't there signs everywhere asking patrons to inform servers of allergies? Why do that if you're not going to respect it? This is both dangerous, and probably illegal. Don't go here. Ever.
(1)Greg E.
This place is actually better than most. The cheese burger is super cheap and quite good, and the baklava can't be beat. Not gourmet food by any means but a lot more than pizza slices.
(3)John E.
Didn't get what I ordered. Italian sub toasted came cold, and the sub rolls are weak and fall apart. I don't plan to revisit this place, since there are many other better shops around the area.
(2)Sarah D.
Chicken Caesar Salad I got last night was possibly the worst chicken caesar salad in the history of chicken caesar salads. No matter how many times I type "caesar" correctly it still looks like I've made a drastic spelling error. But I digress.... Two stars for the fact that the guys behind the counter were super nice. And one star because who orders a chicken caesar salad at a middle eastern pizza place?? That's just wrong.
(3)Ryan G.
Place is terrible. I order a roast beef grinder, and it had 2 pieces of roast beef on it and was filled with lettuce. I thought this was a joke. I returned to show them what they had given me, and was told that they put the sandwich's together based on the weight on the meat. He gave me a new sandwich with maybe one extra piece of meat on it. Suffice it to say, I have not been back since, especially with all the other options in the neighborhood.
(1)Sarah R.
Technically Charlie's should get 2 stars, but I'm being generous and giving it 3 because it's within stumbling distance of J's. I've eaten here twice now, and by the other reviews I'm reading, maybe I need to stop ordering pizzas and calzones and start ordering the Middle Eastern fare. The calzone in question was good but was greasier and less doughy than what I like. The pizza was thin and the sauce tasted kind of odd, but still edible. It goes to show how much I'll tolerate when it comes to eating pizza. A word to the wise: if you're trying to be healthy and order a garden salad, don't do it! $5 gets you a sad little affair of iceberg lettuce (with maybe a leaf or two of actual lettuce thrown in there for color), pale tomatoes and a cursory cucumber slice. There are certainly better choices in Allston, but when I'm looking for convenience and the least possible distance from restaurant to belly, I'll take Charlie's.
(3)Brendan B.
Let me first start off by saying that I have only had their Middle-eastern food. And let me also say that I am in no way shape or form a connoisseur of the cuisine. With that being said, there's no other place I'd rather go to eat beef or chicken shwarma, kafta kabob, and chicken kabob plates. The staff is very friendly and I would recommend it whole-heartedly, strictly for the Middle-eastern food. As a sit-down place/restaurant, I would have to agree with some of the other reviews on the site and say that if it could improve on anything, it would be that. But hey, for me, it's all about the food.
(4)Laurence D.
I live right down the street from this place. I have gotten food here 20+ times. I tried my hardest to like this place. I really gave them the opportunity to turn it around. But finally, I have been forced to throw in the towel. The food at this place falls short every-time, unless you're black-out drunk. ....When I ask for a slice of pepperoni pizza, I don't want an old un-eaten slice of cheese pizza with some pepperonis thrown on top of it, which are glued down by some extra cheese like rubber cement. Gross. I ordered a piece of carrot cake 2 days ago. It was stale. Inedible. I got a meatball sub a week ago. It literally was the most bland thing I ever ate. How do you mess up a meatball sub? The answer is...I don't know. Unfortunately, the list goes on. In short, this place is good when you're drunk and willing to eat anything. Otherwise, I'd rather pick through the trash can.
(1)Sue K.
charlie's tastes as average as any other pizza/ sub shop in the area. i've never walked in with great expectations, nor eaten anything worth complaining about. my regular order was a grilled chicken salad about once a week while i did my laundry on the same street. if you're in a rush, or hungry call in your order, as counter orders seem to take last priority. on less sober occasions (probably about once a week as well), i'd opt for some deep fried goodness and/or pizza. the staff is friendly, the dining area is clean enough, and there's plenty of space to bring your friends and dine-in. they're open and deliver til 2AM on the weekends- thank god, cus while they might not be the best, when it comes to late night nourishment, charlie's is a much better option than redneck's.
(3)Robert K.
The atmosphere in Charlie's is unique. They have the friendliest staff, great prices and it's a pretty clean joint. The only thing better than the workers is the food. Being in there all the time, I've met Arz and Charlie and they are simply the BEST!!!!!!!! Comments left by others are completely fabricated. I dont understand where these comments came from. They must've walked in the wrong charlies (there is one in Roxbury). The place I walked into was like home. There's even a couch and a pin ball game for entertainment while you wait for your food. Bottom line they're great!! dont ever change! P.s. They are A LOT better than Inbound Pizza.
(5)Paarin M.
This place has a huge variety of food, and that concerned me at first. How can a place make good pizza, sandwiches, hot wraps, grinders, middle eastern food, smoothies etc etc etc. Since i was hungry and live across the street, i thought I'd give them a try. I wasn't in the mood for pizza, so I ordered a chicken fajita wrap. To my surprise, it didnt come on a standard white wrap, but actually on a pita bread style wrap. The chicken was well marinated, and the grilled onions and peppers were also really tasty. It wasn't too big, but definitely filled me up. While not too traditional of a "fajita wrap", the different wrap actually was an excellent complement. My only complaint is that it was $7, which is kind of a lot for the size. I don't know what others were talking about when they said it was empty, there was about half a dozen people in there at 10pm on a wed night. The staff there is prompt and friendly. The sandwich was done when i got there 10 min after calling. They also take credit cards, which is a huge plus.
(4)Michael L.
It's recently become my place for pizza delivery. Pizza is solid and tasty, and delivery has been consistently timely. I've only had pizza so I can't speak for anything else.
(4)Garth S.
Charlie's should probably get two stars but for the fact that it's the only pizza joint really close to me and it's better than Inbound Pizza, which is next closest. The pizza is adequate although a bit greasy and not completely satisfying. I haven't tried anything else on the menu but the prices seem a bit steep. The guy who runs the place is nice enough but I have to wonder how he makes his money since I'm usually the only customer in the place. I wish Charlie's opened earlier than ten a.m. Next to Harry's Bar and Grill, it's the only close food place and in 1-degree weather, the trip down to Dunkin' Donuts on Harvard Ave is more than I can bear first thing in the morning. So three stars for the neighborhood pizza joint.
(3)Andrew D.
I am mad about this place, because I really think the pizza is pretty okay... at least the buffalo chicken. Except I just ordered a pizza, and when I called to say they delivered the wrong one, their answer was pretty much, "Oh... yeah, I know what happened" and then proceeded to offer us a future credit for a single topping, or to deliver a cup of toppings. Not really what I was hoping for... Too bad I won't be making another order to see if they'll honor the credit. Oh, and they are one of the few places that doesn't even bother to come to the door, and instead of handing us the pizza, they kind of thrust the warming bag toward us and we had to pull it out of the bag.
(2)Jackie G.
i got take out from here the other night through foodler (love love love foodler). i ordered a steak & cheese and my boyfriend had a cheeseburger grinder. Neither one came with cheese!!! I'm pretty sure the main ingredient in both is cheese, it says it in its name why there was no cheese still baffles me. We both asked for Mayo. Neither came with mayo. i try to branch out and try new places but it always backfires. I'm sorry but if you don't put cheese on steak & CHEESE and a CHEESEburger sub then you probably shouldn't be in business. Oh and their spicy fries were terrible!
(1)Frank N.
I've been here a couple times after stumbling home from Joshua Tree. I could tell this pizza was terrible even when I was drunk and hungry...but they are the only pizza joint that I know of that is open a bit past 2am. My memory of the pizza is um, a bit foggy, so I can't give precise details, sorry. Of course, I ate it anyways. Shoulda just made ramen. Sabatino's is so much better, and it's down the street @ kelton and comm, but unfortunately not open late night =(
(1)Jason T.
I moved to Boston from Georgia 5 months ago. I have eaten pizza all over Boston and I have to say that Charlie's is at the top. I love this place. The employees are very friendly. I talked to Arz for a while who is the owner's brother. Def nice guy and the pizza is just good. Go try it.
(5)Sarah P.
The pizza is terrible simply because the dough is the worst I've ever had. That being said, they make a mean sandwich and I've never been disappointed. Fast delivery makes this place even better. Stay away from the pizza, but give the Italian grinder a go.
(4)Christine M.
Phenomenal pizza; the bacon, black olive and onion combination from there is enough to make your eyes roll back in your head. They're pretty quick and the pizza is blazing hot. All around great pizza delivery.
(5)Elizabeth M.
I ordered a pizza here tonight, and while the price was right (12.99 for a large cheese and a 2 liter) it was as if the person who made/cut the pizza was drunk. It was 8 uneven slices some of then even cut almost square and not triangular..I cant even explain it. If I was drunk I probably wouldn't care, but I was looking for a nice cheap pizza dinner at my house and the presentation kind of ruined it for me. I have worked in cheap pizza places before and always took pride in the way the product looked....I would have never let a pizza go out looking like that.
(2)Jennafir E.
This is a place to go when you're too lazy to move farther than a block. The pizza is good, the salads are tasty, the service is nice. Visit it for a pizza, they're open late, which makes me happy.
(3)Colin K.
I just ordered a calzone from them and it was the worst calzone I've ever had. I mean, I remember calzones from my middle school cafeteria being better than this. Wow, please do not ever order a calzone from here.
(1)Shruti M.
so I've tried the Ziti (not sure why ) and the chicken fingers... and while it wasn't the best ever...it was decent and to the point and both times...exactly what i wanted. It gets 3 stars for giving a drunk girl what she wanted when she wanted it...and the fourth star for being an easy drunk walk home :)
(4)Chris W.
Their pizza is better than most places around the area and pretty cheap. Same goes for the subs. But the Middle Eastern food is like the secret no one will tell you about. Just do it! And the staff there is very friendly. Make sure you tip them well.
(4)Adam L.
My roommate and I ate here one night because it's close to our apartment and it was the only place open on a holiday. I can't speak to their other food, because I haven't gone back to try it, but it was far and away the most disgusting pizza I've had since I moved to Boston. The pizza is so greasy and the crust is so thin that each slice is on the verge of falling apart at any moment. The taste was too sweet, almost like antifreeze, and did not settle particularly well afterward. It fufilled a need that one night, but I'm never going back.
(1)Bryan H.
We love charlies, their food is great and there service is amazing. Nicest guys in Allston, fast delivery times, and again their food is great. We order food from here almost everyday and I can't recommend them enough!
(5)Beats M.
Oh Charlie. Whoa Nelly. You used to make the best Italian sub ever. My last one sucked. What am I to think. Are we broken up or just taking a break?
(3)Katlyn C.
Took an hour and a half to get my food, and it wasn't that good. The meatballs were bland, some of them were pink on the inside. Spaghetti was meh. The garlic bread was really delicious, just a bit soggy in one spot. Finally, the chocolate cake was delicious at first, but by the end subpar. The fudge was froze? If I hadn't been so hungry I wouldn't have ate as much as I did, but I hadn't eaten since last night. I won't order here again.
(1)Alex L.
The middle eastern food here is fantastic. I haven't tried anything other than their Middle Eastern food, so if I'm looking to get a big plate of beef shawarma, this is where I go. The hummus is fresh, the meat tastes high quality and is seasoned well, and with that on top of some rice... heaven! I really recommend everybody to try out the Middle Eastern food.
(5)mandi m.
While the staff is (maybe a little too) friendly, the food has always been iffy at best. Even though it's very close I never go there. The maintenance guy for my building said he wouldn't even eat there when it was the middle of a blinding snowstorm... that's saying something.
(2)Joanna B.
Try the Middle Eastern dishes. That's all we order. This place has no charm physically, in fact the block is kind of scary. But the food, oh, the food! Everyone who tries it (and I have introduced several people to their middle eastern dishes) raves about it. For American dessert, the chocolate cake is to die for, and if you want to visit middle eastern dessert heaven, have the baklava. Order extra because you will be craving more. A family runs this place and takes pride in the quality of the food they serve. The delivery is reliable and courteous and I can't say enough good things about the middle eastern food. Shwarma is tasty and fresh. Grape leaves, fabulous. Veg variety plate - magnificent and service always friendly. The meat and spinach pies are different than others I have had and I encourage you to try them. I have had Charlie's cater a party and they did a beautiful and reasonably priced job of preparing and presenting the food. Yummy yummy food and lovely people with whom to do business.
