I didn't order alligator, or meat. Those plates looked ok, but the salads they serve are too small. My son ordered a burger. It came on a small white, stale bun with a side of mediocre deep fried, frozen french fries. It cost $7. McDonalds is better and substantially less expensive. For what they offer, B&C is expensive and stingy, but it's the only place in town so there's no competition and it shows. When Subway opens up down the street, places like this don't survive and there's good reason. I wouldn't go again, unless I was ordering alligator. Those deep fried dishes did look good.

Stopped there on my way to Oak Alley plantation for lunch. It was a Friday, around 1pm and the place was fully booked. The table we sat at was the last one available. Also it took so long before the waitress came to see us, we literally waited for at least 30 minutes before she even came to take our orders. But since then everything went perfectly good. We ordered a few appetizers, a catfish and a shrimp po-boy, which were all delicious!

After visiting Whitney Plantation we stopped in just before closing. Our group of 13 walked in and the place was empty as closing was in about 45 minutes. Our server was Katherine. She was awesome. Great service was just the beginning. The food was unbelievably good. The seafood was perfectly seasoned. My wife had an Anton Ego moment when she ate the hush puppies. It took her home. From frog legs to fish to gator the food was perfect. The red beans and rice was to die for. If your in the area due visit and if not in the area drive over for great food.

They make their own bread, sausages, pies, you name it! The seafood is very fresh and the staff is incredibly kind. It's off the beaten path so it's very down home in there. Looks like it's been there for a long time. If you love crawfish than this is your spot. The rest of the menu was ok. Pretty simple. Lots of fried food. But all and all it's pretty good.

Came in on a Monday at around 1, after driving past it during a visit to the Laura Plantation. There's plenty of seating and the place was pretty much empty. I can see why - their food was NOT good. To start, we ordered the Cajun sampler. Everything was fried. This included hush puppies, boudin balls, alligator, catfish, and ground crawfish. It was okay. They were fried to perfection, I'll give them that. But everything kind of tasted the same. I ordered the andouille sausage po'boy on the hero. Since it was my first andouille sausage experience, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not sure if they all taste like this, but mine was SUPER chewy. The casing was hard to digest. You could probably make this at home. Just boil some rubber, dump some salt on it, slather on some mayo, and you got yourself a po'boy from B&C! My Dad ordered the alligator burger. It was interesting. I wouldn't say it was bad but I wouldn't say it was good either. If you've tried alligator meat, you might say it's comparable to gamey chicken. But the burger didn't taste like alligator meat would. I can't even tell you what it tasted like - just a bunch of spices and seasonings. I can't even tell you if it was really alligator meat! (YIKES!) Maybe Cajun food is just not my style. Tip - the restaurant is connected to a market that sells spices, frozen meats, bread, and boiled crawfish at $3.99/lb.

Off the beaten path, near all the plantation tours. We had the 5lbs of crawfish and sweet tea, won't disappoint.

DELICIOUS! We stopped in here after visiting some of the plantations. We had po-boys and crawfish balls. YUM! The manager asked if we'd tried alligator, we said we'd had some sausage, he said OH NO, HOLD ON. Fried us up some [it's meaty]. YUM! Then he was asking if we'd had crawfish yet, we said no, we were supposed to go out for some in New Orleans later in the week and he said OH NO, THEY'RE HAVING CRAWFISH IN NEW ORLEANS? WHAT? and he cooked up a bunch and fed us. YUM! Super nice folks, super great food. Definitely worth a stop, especially if you're having a long day sightseeing. p.s. There's some kind of buffet/crawfish boil on the weekend.

Stay right away. Take a picnic if you're going to these plantations or eat a big breakfast or even allow yourself to eat McDonalds. Just don't eat here. Everyone else was eating these red crawfish crab things. Maybe we should have followed suit. Instead, we had the "Louisiana Sampler" plate. The entire thing was deepfried - yeah, I know this is the south, but everything? - and all the stuff inside was very dry. There was a lot more batter than fish/meat. It didn't even taste as though it was freshly fried. More like fried that morning and reheated. The olive salad was tinned beans, a spoonful of tinned olives on a bed of iceberg lettuce, drenched in vinegar and oil. Yuk. It wasn't particularly expensive but I felt someone should have paid me to eat that food.

Fantastic!! Best Seafood Gumbo I've ever had!! Discovered the place after a visit to the Laura Plantation. Call me crazy but having now been to B & C once, I WOULD drive from New Orleans to go there again. This is the real deal!! Skip the tourist traps people, you want authentic, B & C is it. I also had the fried alligator, very good. It tastes like pork with a sweet aftertaste. Just a stone throw from the Mississippi this is as Cajun as it gets.

We visited B and C based on a recommendation from one of the plantation tours and I tell you, THIS IS THE BEST MONEY WE SPENT ON OUR TRIP!!!!!!!!! I had the fried catfish topped with crawfish stew and my husband had seafood gumbo, rice and beans. OMG! The food was better than outstanding and the service was primo. The manager gave us crawfish tails and sat at our table to show us how to peel them. If you are looking for authenthic cajun food, B and C is the spot!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Joseph L.

Worth the trip. The cajun sampler was really good. I had the shrimp po-boy and was surprise that it wasn't on a true French bread. However was quite good and fresh.

If you're heading out to see the plantations along River Road, this is one of the only places to stop and grab a bite. We just keep coming back now, because B&C has the BEST fried catfish I've ever had. I like it even better than Middendorf's. On our first visit I ordered the fried oyster po boy, as I can never get enough of those, and a cup of gumbo. We were waiting for our meal when the owner of the place came over to our table with a steam tray full of just cooked crawfish. He asked if we'd ever had them, and then sat down with us, gave us a tutorial on eating them, chatted and ate with us congenially for awhile, and then left us with the rest of the mudbugs, which was a good sized portion of the little buggers, free of charge. Now, for those of you who've read my reviews and heard me go on about Southern hospitality, there it is. The nicest people being super friendly, acting like they invited you over to their house for dinner. The po boy and gumbo were both great, oysters fried to a crispy and crunchy perfection, and a chicken and sausage gumbo that was really rich tasting. I can tell when they spend alot of time making a great roux, and this gumbo's got it. They serve the gumbo Cajun style with a side of potato salad...go ahead, dip that spoonful of potato salad right into the gumbo, that's how they roll down here. The next time we went, I had the fried catfish, and nearly swooned. I know this is simple food, but it's hard to fry things so perfectly...it takes practice and skill to get it crispy and not soaked with grease, so I'm always very impressed. B&C is also a fish market, so you can get fresh catfish, crawfish, shrimp, frog legs, alligator and some frozen prepared foods to go.

We stopped by here on the way to the plantations. I was fairly disappointed in the food. It's a cool local place, with alligator heads all over the place - but the food that we ordered just wasn't that great. The Louisiana sampler was a bunch of different fried foods, and we honestly couldn't tell what was what, since little of it retained its seafood essence. The fried oyster poboy was okay, but not great - again, those fried morsels didn't taste particularly like oysters. I would still recommend stopping by here, since it's a cool place, but I would try to stick to fresh seafood if you can.

  • Patrick K.

I don't know what other restaurants are around here, this one wasn't good, but it may be the best one in the area! The food was reasonably priced. It wasn't disgusting, but it wasn't very good either. My wife and I had the chicken gumbo, and the seafood gumbo. They were both edible, but not very good. We also had the fried Cajun sampler, which was ok. The fried Boudin balls and the aliigator were the highlights of the sampler. After leaving four of our party had "intestinal discomfort"that afternoon!

nice little place to stop after a tour of Laura plantation. Tasty food and very, very casual. Good place to refresh after a hot tour of the plantation.

I loved this little place! The service was amazing and the food was fantastic. I was delightfully impressed with this little restaurant! I had the grilled frog legs and crawfish, fatalistic!

  • Joseph D.

Not bad. Like many, we stopped by after visiting Laura plantation. The food was tasty but nothing special. There aren't many options in the area though and you could do worse. We had a Shrimp po boy and a half chicken with jambalaya and salad.

    (3)
  • Tracy S.

Visited after Everygreen tour because of the reviews. Seafood gumbo bowl was undersized for the price, and it was lukewarm like it wasn't fresh. Tasted alright but disturbed by the fact that it was almost cool. The waitress was super nice, attentive, and fast.

  • Duane L.

Stopped in with my wife around lunch time. I can't comment on all the food, because we both had the catfish po-boy. We would not recommend it. We are from Lafitte Louisiana, a small fishing community south of New Orleans. Been eatin food like this all my life. Everything else there might be great, but not the catfish. Really friendly people though.

B & C? More like B & S. ATTENTION TOURISTS, check your bill to make sure it matches up with the menu prices! We caught a handwritten extra charge that didn't correspond to any item, plus overcharge for the soda. Granted it was only a few dollars, but it was the principle that counts. B & C, please stop overcharging hapless tourists who venture in after their Laura Plantation or Oak Alley tours. It leaves a bad taste in their mouths. There is admittedly a lack of dining choices on this stretch of River Road, so if you do decide to stop here, go with the shrimp po boy. Don't bother with the oily fried green tomatoes or seafood patty smothered with a generic, heavy cream sauce.

    (1)
  • Erika C.

So, this is where you should eat, I had a shrimp bun. It's a fried shrimp poor boy on a bun instead. It was ridiculous, nirvana, the bench mark that all others will now have to strive for. Crazy. It is worth the trip.

  • Mitch E.

We found this place while driving to our plantation tour. If you're driving too quickly you'll miss it. We started our meal with crawfish kickers which were good and tasted like a fishier hush puppy. My friend and I both had a po' boy and we found the bread to be incredibly fresh and the sandwich to be delectable. The server had incredible southern hospitality. Only two area of more critical feedback would be the creepy bathrooms and the prices are a bit high considering where the restaurant is located. Overall, is it worth time? I would say so.

This was a fantastic treat to stumble upon. (thank you yelp). The poboy was fantastic- the gumbo delish. Highly recommend it!

    (4)
  • Jo M.

The chicken and sausage gumbo alone deserves 5 stars but average it out with the soft crab poboy and the andouille sausage poboy, they get a 3. I highly recommend to get the big bowl of gumbo with the potato salad and skip the po'boy. You can get that elsewhere for much better. It's next door to the Laura Plantation so Im assuming that's why their prices are a little high. Service was excellent and friendly. In the large dining room, there's old photos up of the area, it's worth while to take 5mins of your time and check it out.

We were surprised with how good it was! We were starving after touring St. Joseph's and Oak Alley plantation. We wanted to try some boiled crawfish along with other cajun foods. We had no idea were to go, when someone spotted this little place that looked more like a market from the outside and from the main entrance. We quickly all got out our iphones and began reading the yelp reviews, they were all pretty good, so we though why not, lets try it! So pleased that we did! We shared 3lbs of boiled crawfish, it was fun to eat: messy, stinky and yummy! lol.... Here is the rest of what we ordered: seafood gumbo: good but the shrimp were the tiny kind, not really worth the extra two dollars, stick to chicken gumbo chicken gumbo:delish, we got the cup as starters, on a rainy day it was perfect! smoked sausage po'boy: they really put the mayo on the po' boys, I didn't mind, wasn't exactly in a diet state of mind, but if you do, make sure you ask them to go easy on it If I am ever back to visit the beautiful plantations in this parish, I will definitly be back to this place, prices were good, as well.

Thanks to yelp we found another diamond in the rough. Home run Yelp home run. I had the shrimp po boy and mother had the red beans and rice. Fa-Nom-inal. Best I've had in Nola in ten years of coming.

I really wish I could give 10 stars on yelp. Yes, just like everyone else driving along the 18 after visiting plantations, my friend and I decided to stop by and grab quick lunch. Little did I know I was about to get the best po boy of my life. Forget about all the tourist spots in the french quarter - B & C is the place to go for REAL Po Boys. I had the catfish, it was so good that I saved the other half to savor it later - and ate it slowly on the drive back into the city. I am from NY so by all means we dont have a shortage of amazing food here, but this place really had me blown away. - I miss you NOLA!

My family and I visit this restaurant whenever we head to the plantations. We even travel out of our way to go! My brother had a Cajun plate with boudin, gumbo, and other local delicacies. I always have red beans and man, are they good!! The best part is the ambiance. We had kids with us and my daughter and nephew picked up some musical instruments & started playing. They loved it and no one batted an eye. We can't wait to go back. Will try the gator sausage next time!

  • Alice L.

Pretty darn tasty, yep. I totally dig the fried okra, $3.50 and the chopped sirloin wasn't bad either, $5.95 on a bun, though it did remind me of a Philly cheese steak but I love Philly cheese...The fried alligator is so so, I'm not big on the chewy tough texture but the honey mustard dipping sauce was good. Waitresses are hilarious and super friendly. One reminded me to take my camera when I went to the ladies room. I wondered why until I opened the door... Overall, a quirky homey Cajun place. I'd go back if I did the plantation route again.

If you are in the area to see Oak Alley or Laura, then make this your meal stop. Family run and a local gem where you can enjoy authentic local homecooking. I ordered the fried soft shell crab, sweet potato fries, boiled crawfish and boudin balls. Loved them all.

Seafood gumbo and their chicken and sausage gumbo was one of the better ones I've had. Also had their cajun sampler: fried crawfish balls, fried catfish, fried boudin balls, fried alligator, and hushpuppies. Crawfish balls were not bad, fried catfish was good, fried boudin was good, hushpuppies were great, and fried alligator was just ok. I don't know what "good" okra is, but the fried okra I had was bland and flavorless. Definitley wouldn't order that again. Would absolutely go there for the gumbo and hushpuppies again! Also, the peach hot sauce they have is really good!

We stopped here before a tour at Evergreen Plantation and loved it. Terrific crawfish poppers, catfish and shrimp poboys, alligator piquant, and seafood gumbo. They even had live music. We loved this place and would return again.

  • Stephen V.

The food is great. But if you are not a local, your portions will be smaller and with less shrimp or crawfish. They take care of their own!! To go is an issue too.

B&C -- our first real Cajun food. We enjoyed it very much. We stopped in on our way to Laura Plantation, and I was impressed that three-quarters of the cars in the lot were from out-of-state. Looks like the word is getting out. We ordered the Cajun Sampler (fried alligator, bodin balls, catfish, crawfish and hush puppies / $14.99), Seafood Gumbo ($7.95), Seafood Steak ($8.49) and a Gator Burger ($8.99). Service was good. Overall, a very pleasant and interesting lunch. If you are headed out for a long day of plantation hopping, a great place for lunch and a cold one.

Fantastic! Read and re-read reviews about this place, and KNEW we were gonna hit it up during our "Plantations" day in New Orleans. All I can say is that the place lived up to my vaunted expectations, and every else in our traveling party loved their food as well. I KNEW I was gonna have the fried platter, because I wanted to sample a few things in one fell swoop. So, the fried alligator was yummy; the boudin balls were yummy, the catfish was great; the hush puppies were yummy. So glad I talked everyone in our party into coming here....they all loved their food as well (catfish po'boy, 1lb of boiled shrimp, seafood gumbo). No "intestinal" issues, no complaints...it was all good and stayed that way. Service was prompt and friendly, and our drinks were kept refilled. Do yourself a favor and stop by B&C...you'll be glad you did! We were :)

No doubt, this place is close to Laura Plantation and Oak Alley. I wouldn't say the food was great, and I wish I had sampled other choices closer by. Food: Fried green tomatoes, $7: You get 5, small-medium slices, tasted overfried and stale Fried okra, $3.50: Decent amount, but same taste as above Boiled crawfish special, 3 lb for $16: Not the best I've had, served lukewarm, didn't taste fresh. Mild spice, but Don's Seafood in Gonzales was so much better, even though they were much spicier there. Boiled shrimp, 1 lb for $10: Overcooked and lukewarm, not worth it Service: Quite friendly, though initially slow Character: This place overflows with it. Love the frozen meat offerings in the small market next door. They have an acoustic guitar for you to play, if you dare, and a stuffed alligator dressed up as a chef

This place was highly recommended by a local of the Rental Car company. We had rental car for a day. So we decided to check out Oak Alley ( a sugarcane plantation with twenty-eight 300 yr old Oak trees planted in 2 rows). Absolutely amazing! We ordered their famous Fried Alligator $5.95 appetizer. It was delicious! My boyfriend ordered a cup of Seafood Gumbo (shrimp, crab & okra) $6.95. I ordered a bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo with potato salad & garlic bread $9.95. It was just FABULOUS! Gumbo is definitely their specialty. Another great find! Make sure you look for the sign on the road. You can easily missed the restaurant.

Great staff......I had the fried green tomatoes and the crawfish bisque. All was wonderful......the ice tea was just fab....not too sweet....just right.....wish I spent more time in the store portion....I could have used that hog head cheese.....

Don't come here if you are in a hurry. Our waitress was really bad. We sat for quite a while before we were even acknowledged and even longer before we got our drink order placed. We sat for another 15 minutes or so before she took our food order. Keep in mind - there is about 10 things on the menu. The food took forever to arrive. I ordered the seafood gumbo and got the chicken gumbo. I ate it anyway because it took so long to arrive and I was starving. To top it off I had to find her to get our check so we could leave. The people sitting around us seemed to be experiencing the same level of service. The place is a dive, but that is what I expected. I really wanted to like this place but the service was horrible. It could be kind of fun if you get better service than I did.

We had a delicious meal here after a plantation tour. We ate delicious fried foods like alligator, catfish, and fried creamed corn balls (I forgot what they are called--not hushpuppies!) They served the best sweet hot sauce ever with the food so I bought some to take home. I got addicted to the Vidalia Onion and Sweet Peach Cajun Breaux hot sauce to eat with my Chinese pork bowl at home and now I'm out and I can't find anyplace that sells it! Makes me wish I could go back to NOLA to get some, LOL!

We stopped in for lunch after touring some of the local plantations. This was our last chance at some authentic Cajun cooking before we left town. GET A PO-BOY They make their own bread, and a lot of their own sausages. It was the best sandwich I had while I was in the area. The prices are a little higher than I expected, but with all the tourist traffic it makes perfect sense. This was also my first time trying gator meat, and I knew it would be the right spot because there was a video of some locals hunting gators on the TV. All in all, a great spot to have some real Cajun cuisine after a hot day on the plantation. There is also a "market" attached with live crab and other neat local foods. Two sandwiches, Fried gator, Sweet Tea, and a dozen teas cookies on the way out... With tip came to around $40.

I really wanted to give this more than 4 stars. I had been recommended this restaurant. I had red beans and rice. It was very good, but the sausage that it came with was over cooked and crunchy. The gumbo was very good and the seafood steak was also good. The sampler was good, except the oil must not have been very fresh as several of the flavors were combined and the gator tasted like catfish rather than gator.

My family and I toured St. Joseph plantation today and we stopped here for lunch and it was wonderful! Our waitress was so nice and the food was delicious. I have a 4 year old who likes to talk sometimes and he was holding a conversation with our waitress! For food we ordered two seafood platters that came with fries, catfish, hush puppies, oysters, shrimp, and toast. A salad also came with it. Everything on the platter was delicious and fresh! My son got a nugget plate with fries and ate it all and loved it. We also got two gator burgers that came with fries and it was very very delicious! The alligator was very fresh and not too fishy. For an appetizer we ordered the sampler that came with fried alligator, crawfish kickers, boudin balls, catfish, and hush puppies; all of which were wonderful! All of the food was fried in peanut oil so that could have been why it was so great and they used fresh potatoes for the fries instead of frozen! Last but definitely not least our waitress came to the table with a tray full of desserts that had (if I can remember them all) cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake, smothered brownies, and bread pudding. We ordered one bread pudding and split it (we were already pretty full) and it was one of the best bread puddings I have ever eaten! This place will definitely be visited my me again, just don't know when since I live across the city. As a local who has grown up eating this kind of food, this place gets 5 stars! It was not greasy and soggy, it was light, fresh, and crisp! And the prices were half as much as Oak Alley Plantation's restaurant!

You guessed it, we were out touring the plantation homes and needed to find a spot for lunch. The minute I walked into B&C Market I knew the food would be good. The staff were so friendly, especially the gentleman who greeted us and told me he'd just made a batch of Seafood gumbo that was worth trying. It was delicous and inexpensive! The rest of the family bought sandwiches, po-boys, salads which were all terrific.

My wife and I show up for lunch after touring plantations every time we visit New Orleans. The food is excellent and we love the staff and the place itself as well. Someone came out from the kitchen and introduced himself and showed us how to eat crawfish. He must have given us 20 for free and they were terrific. We've had their po-boys, terrific fried catfish, shrimp and oysters. We have had the chicken and sausage gumbo accompanied with garlic toast and potato salad. We've never ordered anything we didn't think was great. We love this place and highly recommend it.

We were hungry after touring Laura. I ordered seafood gumbo for $11.95. It was acceptable, but was actually a 'bay shrimp' gumbo. A disappointment. My friend had catfish, which was reported as good. I don't plan on getting back anytime soon, but would not order seafood gumbo again.

We discovered B&C a year and a half ago when visiting the Laura Plantation. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed but we bought some shrimps to cook at home. We never forgot the friendliness and helpfullness of the staff that stayed open to let us you use their (cute) restrooms. Trust me on this, CUTE!!!!! So last week, we made sure to make this a stop on our way to the Oaks Alley Plantation. Donna, our hostess with mostess, was delightful to say the least. The muddogs were delicious as were the hush puppies, red beans and rice and the frog legs. OOOOOOOOh ya baby! We decided to make the trip one more time before we boarded the plane for home yesterday. Donna remembered us and was most kind. She is a sweetheart! Oh did I mention the seafood gumbo? Broke my mouth it was sooooooooo yummos. We bought a bucket to bring home. Thanks for the wonderful food and even more, for the kind hospitality. Donna is a true ambassodor of everything good that is Louisianna and B & C is a little slice of heaven. We wish you all the best and we will definitely be back.
