Oh dear God why on earth didn't I Open up my Yelp app and read before I walked in?! The outside of the place was the first warning. It looks horrible out and inside it's ok but not really clean . The girl who took care of us was polite and quick but that's about the only thing going for this joint . I generally only review on Yelp if I'm extremely impressed or extremely displeased which is the topic in this case . Looking over all of the other negative reviews I'd have to say the others who have fallen before me have pretty much nailed it . Bad salsa , the MickieD's of mexican , etc . I almost had time to get up and away before the quick waitress got to me . Maybe she knows and hurries to keep us there ? I was unable to finish my small lunch portion . The ground beef was awful and strange smelling and I almost gagged about half way through . The sauce was very salty also . As others have stated , what with all of the other places serving mexican right near by , it's bizarre that peope still go here . La Providencia is right up the road from here and La Fiesta is on Stumpf right behind Home Depot which is my usual place to get mexican for less money and far better . Yes, if I could leave a negative I would I believe . Moral of the story here is : Don't forget to use your Yelp app ever and you won't have to leave a review like this !!!!!!!

They have good chips and salsa - oh, and delicious margaritas too. I don't frequently go to Cucos, but everytime I have, it's been a good experience. Nothing outstanding, but definitely a good meal and friendly service at a reasonable price.

Awful. Just awful. Eating here is like eating out of a dumpster. Chicken in my fajitas was cold, as if it had just been removed from the refrigerator and the cook hadn't bothered to defrost it. The guacamole smelled like it had begun to spoil. The salsa tasted like ketchup with hot sauce and vegetables in it, which wass probably because it was. Repulsive. Never again will I eat at this joint. Neither should you.

This place used to be okay, but in the last 3 years I've seen it go from bad to terrible. Save yourself some time and just go buy a Mexican microwaved dinner. It's not worth the time or money. There are a few authentic Mexican places that have opened up on Belle Chasse Hwy that are way better.

Love it! My husband and I usually sit at the bar. We've met 3 different bartenders and all of them were great company. the 2 for 1 margaritas during happy hour are definitely enough to get you feeling good and the mexican pizza is the best I've ever had! This is a regular spot for us!

The chips were delicious, but the salsa was fresh out of a jar from Walmart. The waitress also brought us our salsa with it smeared on the side of the container, which gave a bad first impression. The menu was tiny, supposedly because of Hurricane Isaac, which happened two weeks before I visited. I ordered the Santa Fe meal, which included a taco, tamales, rice, and beans. Everything looked and tasted as though it had come from a can or box, nothing homemade or fresh. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't delicious, either. The portions were big, and I took most of it home in a to-go box. The service was okay, not good or bad.

Their food isn't processed as others may say . They have a good homemade specialties sauce. Salsa made fresh daily as well.Great place to go to watch Saints Games . They have 2 for one drinks during SAINTS game. Good for Family .

I'm usually against re reviewing unless my experience has changed drastically, but I'm updating anyway. This place has been a solid "meh" for the 3 years since my last review. Look, here's the deal, when I am in the mood for cheap Mexican that ISN'T Taco Bell, I usually just go here. Seeing as how it's the 4th of July and America is a melting pot, I decided to check this place out today for lunch. I ordered the flauta combo with the beans and rice. It's all microwaved. All of it. They know it. I know it. Let's not pretend this is in any way authentic or fresh but hey, my lunch was $8 before tax and tip, so maybe I decided to look the other way and just enjoy it for what it is. Long story short: don't go here for authentic Mexican. Go here because it's better than Taco Bell and still has the same decor it's had since it opened in 1981.

I love this place. Now, this may be due to the fact that I grew up eating at the Cucos at the Plaza in New Orleans East. I have a TON of amazing memories, going there as a kid for birthdays and having them come out and put the sombrero on my head. I recall the food always being top tier for their concept, and the service was spot on. Well, it would seem that the last Cucos in the area is found on the West Bank. I live in Metairie, so the trip over the river takes a few minutes, but as long as I can beat rush hour, it's not a big deal. The food it just as I remember it. Tasty and hot. The salsa is delicious and has a home made taste that beats the salsas at places like Applebee's and Chilie's. The service is prompt and friendly, and their bar seems like a cool place to spend some time. The last few times we went over there, the restaurant was almost empty. There was a small group at the bar, but otherwise we had the dining room to ourselves. This really saddens me, since this is one of the last places still open from my childhood, and I really enjoy the food. The fajitas are my favorite. Served with a generous portion of meat, lots of onions and peppers with beans and rice. I honestly hope this place hangs in there. They are good and deserve more business.

You know, I hate bashing a place especially when it seems they are trying. I have eaten here for years and as the years passed, well, so has my taste and ability to digest. They are still open in-spite of the onslaught of much much better Mexican restaurants in the area after the storm which we will not speak of.... so for that I feel kinda responsible to not be mean. Even though it almost took them two years to open after the storm...but I digress..... Like my friend Marielle said, its a chain and your gonna get chain food. Its kinda like the Copeland's located by the Best Western hotel on the westbank.... they haven't put a dime into this place since it first opened in the 80s. Its showing its age big time. The food really hasn't changed at all. It tore me up back in the day...and it still tears me up today. I'm talking about Cucos, not Copeland's soon to be "old location" I don't have a horror story about here, its just that so much better stuff has opened up all around this place that its really hard to come here anymore, except for when the person is buying lunch wants to eat here too. If you fear change, this is probably real Mexican food to you. And so is Taco Bell. Unfortunately for Cucos. I have been enlightened and just don't care for this place anymore.

If you would like a big ol plate of awfulness then eat here. Bad service even though there were only 2 other tables of customers at the time we were there. If I could give it -2 stars that would be more a more accurate rating.

This place was AWFUL!!!!! I came here even after reading the other horrible reviews hoping to have a better experience..... Well needless to say they were right!!!! This was not the Cucos I remembered. I guess all good things must come to an end!!!! Don't waste your time nor money!!! I only have this place a star because I had to....

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
