Really enjoyed this place, very busy when we went but that didn't slow the service at all got our drinks be food in a reasonable amount of time. I had the yellowfin tuna grilled with the salad and sweet potato fries, I thought it was a lot of food for the price and delicious as well. Great atmosphere, as someone who deals a lot with the military and the marines, I thought all the marine decor was awesome. A must visit in slidell for sure.

This is a must if you are in the area. Service was good, food came fast. Their history is a great example of overcoming adversity, be sure to read it. The seafood gumbo was very good. I had the seafood basket and although it was very good I was jelous of my son's Big Mo Jamma. It was a massive sandwich and it would have probably sit in my stomach a lot better than the fried seafood. 15% off for checking in with yelp.

Traveling from Texas to Florida, and we LOVE Cajun/creole food. Normally we stop in New Orleans for lunch, but we needed to make up some time... We were passing through Slidell after the lunch hour, so I began my Yelp search of the area and found Southside Cafe. We ate the sausage/chicken gumbo, seafood gumbo, shrimp po' boy and the roast beef po' boy. Everything was delicious, especially the sausage/chicken gumbo. I'm pretty critical of gumbo and Southside Cafe's gumbo was one of the best I've had. I would highly recommend it. Food: Delicious, authentic and fresh Service: Spot on, friendly and quick Atmosphere: Patriotic, 100s of military decor items Price: Great

Quick take out available even on a busy Friday night. Ordered the 1/2 lb yellow fin which turned out to be a bit fishy and not close to eight oz. I would say maybe 5oz. It didn't shrink from being cooked as it was rare. The grilled chicken was normal size, simple and not greasy at all. Steamed veggies were good. Finally found some French onion soup to go! It was really good.

Dey aight! Been coming here for years. Always had a pleasant experience and a pleasant meal. Usually have a pleasant beer. Their food is good, staff is friendly and the decor is very highly militarily influenced. Pansy liberals, BEWARE. You're likely to get offended by all the military manly decor in this place, so don't bother. AND don't bother trying to change it cuz life and everything in it offends you, either. We Slidellians love it just the way it is. My mother and her husband come here quite a bit and it's a great place to go if you're from out of town and want to try some of the local favorites. They have a mean muffeletta. Their crawfish balls are quite tasty as well. Over the years, I've ordered plenty off the menu and can't really recall anything that wasn't good. It's all good. Try it out, it's a local favorite. Watch out with the parking situation, though. Recently, they've built up the lot next door to prop up yet ANOTHER Wal-mart or something, and I heard the front of the lot tends to flood during a hard rain, much like the rest of Pontchartrain blvd.

Southside is one of my favorite places to eat in Slidell. They have so much to choose from and all of it is good. They have steaks, poboys, burgers, fried seafood, muffalettas, chicken, and much more. The atmosphere is casual and so are the customers. The workers for the most part are all pleasant and care about their customers. This is one of the first places I would go if I wanted a good meal in Slidell.

Fun festive great place with a wide selection of great food. Owner is a former US Marine and has a lot of memorabilia in the place. The staff are efficient and friendly. The prices are reasonable. We have been there several times and will go MANY more.

Today I've come with my 2 sisters to celebrate Barbara 's birthday. The food is consistently great and today was extra special because it was just us three girls. At the end Mike, the manager came and sang a beautiful Happy Birthday to Barbara and brought the most delicious hot chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and whipping cream. They ate as I texted. A great afternoon of excellent food and fun with my sisters.

So I personally wouldn't come here again. The food is bland and not really anything special. They so have a good assortment on their menu. The staff is friendly and helpful. I personally don't think it's worth a valuable meal in my life.

Great local favorites. Po boys, seafood, great burgers and the muffalotta is great. Business owned by long time Slidell residents who previously owned Tastee Donuts. This restaurant was rebuilt after Katrina then again after a fire and is a thriving part of the community because of it's amazing food and service. A must stop in Slidell.

Decent food, but nothing to write home about. Food seems pretty consistent. We had fried shrimp, seafood gumbo, club sandwich, and a hamburger. Seafood gumbo was tasty, but only had one oyster and two small shrimp in the cup. Most of the cup was rice, with about a quarter cup of actual gumbo. Onion rings with burger were good- thin and crispy. Shrimp reminded me of Jerrys 21 shrimp dinner, mostly breading, and small shrimp, but lots of them. Prices are middle of the road, and there are lots of selections. Kind of noisy inside, bar atmosphere. Service was average. Would eat here again, but not make a special trip.

American Pride pours throughout this restaurant!! The walls are decorated with photos and tributes to OUR military men and women. There are countless articles detailing the bravery and heroics that allow us the enjoy the lifestyles we do and eat at places like this. In addition to the tremendous tributes to OUR troops, Southside Cafe has a great story; one about overcoming adversity (educing the aftermath of Katrina, then a fire while restoring the damages caused by Katrina), this family owned business is supported by loyal, hard working employees and a devoted customer base. As an "outsider," it was fun to watch the playful interactions between staff and patrons. Of course, you see "regulars" in all businesses, but this type of playfulness and friendly banter was happening at every table. It was clear how much the employees valued each customer and it was great to see. I'll support a place like this every way I can!

We had another po boy stop when we traveled through town, but it closed, which brought us to Southside. This place is fantastic! Awesome food and great service. We tried the Irish channel gumbo that included the best potato salad ever. Then, we had the smoked sausage po boy and fried shrimp po boy - both fantastic! We'll be back!

The Wednesday happy hour is the best. But I would go just for a solid chicken sandwich anyways. It's nice to have a restaurant with more than just fried foods. Hard find in the south hah

I am a fan of the open faced roast beef po boy, it's quite good. I also like the onion strings - they are not too greasy and perfectly cooked. My wife really enjoys the gilled shrimp po boy. The best part of this restaurant is the community connection and their support of veterans. Will go back again and again for that alone.

Nice atmosphere, friendly wait staff, Good mixture of drinks behind the bar. Platters are a bit over priced for the small portions, but the poor boys are enormous. Love the Bayou Cajun atmosphere with memorabilia from the Marine Corp. if your looking to kick back and relax This is the place to hang.

It's hard to judge a restaurant after only one visit, but I'm not sure when I will ever be back here. My one time experience was really more like 2 stars, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them 3. When I walked in, I found that I really liked the atmosphere and the size of the restaurant. After we were seated, the cook was going around to each table to show everyone an example of the special of the day. It looked so good! I'm not normally someone to order the special of the day due to it normally being a large amount of food for lunch and it's usually on the more pricey side. I believe it was Lent though and nothing else on the menu was popping out to me, so I went with the special. It was a shrimp pasta, and I believe an eggplant parmesan. I was really excited for the meal to come out, but when it did I was slightly disappointed. The eggplant parmesan was pretty good but the shrimp pasta just missed the mark. As workers for St Tammany Parish School System, we receive what is called a STAR card. It gives us little discounts at restaurants/stores in the parish. I don't live in the same parish that I work, so I don't get to use it much. One of my coworkers looked up the STAR card list of restaurants and saw that for Southside it said "15% off STAR Cardholder's total bill, excluding alcoholic beverages. Card must be presented at time of payment." So my three coworkers and I excitedly showed the waiter our cards and off he went to get our separate checks. He put them down without saying a word, and I noticed that the 15% discount was taken off of all of my friend's checks but not mine (mine was the most expensive regardless). When he came back, I told him that he had forgotten to take my discount off. He told me that he couldn't because I had ordered a special. First off, there was nothing special about "the special". It may have been a dollar cheaper than it is on a regular day which still makes my bill more than it would be had I been able to use the 15% off on the regular price. Second, it doesn't have stipulations for "specials" on the STAR card list, it just mentions that it excludes alcohol. Third, why didn't he tell me that when I showed him my card or at least when he brought the check to me? So I ended up pulling out my Yelp app to check in and, lo in behold, you get a discount for checking in. I showed the waiter my phone which he took with him and then came back with a discounted check. A lot of work for a small discount, but I was happy to save those two or so dollars ;)

Wow - at first I thought a basket of shrimp for 15 dollars was a bit on the pricey side. Well it was so much shrimp I couldn't eat it all. Well worth the money and the freshest seafood I have had in a long time. It is as just like when I was a kid growing up near the shrimp docks in Tampa. nothing beat right off the boat daily - this place has that flavor. The French onion soup the best I have ever had - the chicken and sausages gumbo wow! If your in Slidell, you have to stop and eat at this plac

This has to be the most popular restaurant in Slidell. It is always packed for lunch and dinner. The food is consistently great and the bartenders are generous with the pours. My favorite time to come here is before a parade during Mardi Gras. The atmosphere is just so fun all of the time but especially during Carnival. While the food and atmosphere are great, the service is definitely hit or miss. I was here recently with a friend who ordered water without lemon and the waitress brought water WITH a lemon wedge. The same visit when the bill came it turned out to be for a different table. It was also pretty hard to get her attention when we needed something. I understand that they're usually busy, but poor service takes away from the experience. Also keep in mind that this restaurant is extremely loud. Carrying on a conversation is almost impossible without practically yelling.

Love the food here. Very personable atmosphere here. If you're trying to go to a place and want to be known as a regular, this is your place! They have really good food, the onion soup and anything seafood are among my favorites! The place is updated, not as big as you'd think and not as many TVs as you'd expect to call it a sports bar, but it's a good place to get a little bit of everything!
Great food and very friendly staff! We used them for thanksgiving last year and loved their artichoke casserole and bread pudding. We love this place and their laid back attitude.

From the pilot and military memorabilia to the keepsakes pre-Katrina this former Marine has never given up! Bringing you the finest affordable cuisine and intimate atmosphere; they welcome you as one of our own! Through floods and fire this restaurant offers all the New Orleans favs with gusto! Bring the gals, the pals or the kids! Something for everyone 7 days a week!!! Watch saints here! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

One of the best Reuben's I have eaten anywhere in the country. We stopped in for lunch on our way home out of NOLA. The two bartenders were exceptionally nice and helpful. So many fries in one order, they should be listed by the pound. One order is plenty for two people. We will definitely stop there again if we head out that way.

Asked to get hushpuppies as a side order with my blackened chicken and was told I couldn't do that. I said I understand they cost more so I told the worker I would pay the up charge. She told me no. Many other restaurants allow you to pick and choose different sides and pay the difference. I felt like it was bad customer service. I ordered a carry out and when I picked it up the girl replied to my questions very snappy and rude. The blackened chicken was ok nothing special. The cole slaw was gross. The French soup was oily and the onions were still crunchy. My bf got the hamburger steak and loved it. He stated it had a great taste to it. I doubt I would go back due to the rude staff.

The service was fast and friendly. The food was great. We had the seafood platter and the strawberry salad ! I would recommend this place!

I've come here a few times to watch a World Cup game and have been very pleasantly suprised. Their happy hour is awesome. $2 beer! I had the Yellowfin Tuna salad and it was amazing. They cooked it just like I wanted and the amount of tuna was impressive. The servers are friendly.

Neat place with good ambience and Marine memorabilia. Great gumbo & poboys! Roast beef tender and yummy, albeit a little salty. Kids not crazy about the hot dog preparation (sliced lengthwise and grilled in half--buns were too). Sweet potato fries were good. Sweet tea was just right. Mac n cheese was kind of bland.

My husband and I found this restaurant via Yelp. After we left our first visit (we just bought a house in the area) I told him I think we've found "our place." We have been 5 or so times in the month we've been in Slidell. They have a great happy hour and prices in general are cheap, especially for how delicious it is! We always sit at the bar and get good service and I always get the Ruben (it's awesome!). I love the atmosphere, food, service & prices!

Great casual restaurant with great food. Great service too! Very pro military which as a Veteran, I appreciate. The place has great decorations representing the area & military. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is their meals don't come with a side. Just price it with a side since most people order it that way. Will definitely come again!

We stopped in after reading the good reviews on yelp. The service was great and the food is plentiful. We both ordered the fried catfish not knowing that one serving could have fed both of us. We asked to have our fish cut into strips and the staff was more than happy to do so. The walls are covered service members pictures and memorabilia, the owner is a huge supporter of our service members which is a big plus.

The gumbo was delicious! I wish I had ordered a bowl rather than a cup. The seafood was so fresh. I tried a combination of oysters, shrimp and catfish and I couldn't have asked for better. Great drinks and friendly service. I would go out of my way to visit this family friendly resturant.

I ate lunch at the Southside Cafe in Slidell, LA on 2/10/2014. It was my first time there. Great food. I had half a Muffaletta for $9.99 (and it was huge - see photo) plus a Chicken & Sausage Gumbo for $3.99. My Coffee was $1.99 as was a Side of Coleslaw to go. The decor of the place is amazing (the owner is an ex-Marine) and my server, Cory, did a very good job. Plus, I took photos.

One of the best places to eat in Slidell. We have never had a bad meal here. Service is always friendly, quick, & professional. Good selection of beers on tap. Nice place to sit at the bar and watch a game or have dinner with the family. We always recommend this place to friends and family traveling through the area because of the great food, menu options, and service. Every time there is a wait, we have always been seated before the estimated time.

Nice little american style cafe. Good food and very large portions. I came here with my family and everyone left satisfied and full. They seem to specialize in sandwiches and my brother had their seafood mufulatta which was a half portion seemed otherwise because of how big it was! Nice family spot.

My father and I ride motorcycles every Wednesday night. Coming from Kenner, we look for places at least 30 min away to ride to and grab some dinner. This week we decided to come here. On Wednesday nights they have a bike night. The lot is packed with bikes. it's a great time. We ride with 4-6 other people so we usually have a large group with us. They have plenty of space to accommodate large crowds the girls serving here are pretty friendly. I was with 5 men over the age of 50. The server kept calling me mam. I'm only 2- years old. It was nice of her and showed that she had manners. She probably thought I was a lot older since I was with so many older men. Or even that one of them was my husband and I was a "kitten". (young girls that like much older men). Anyways, we've come here a few times before and I never got around to writing a review, but it's a pretty fun place. The food is not bad but it's not spectacular either. Maybe I haven't found the right foods to eat yet, but I'll keep trying something different until I do. Regardless, I'll still come back. It's all about having a good time and making the best of it... Creating memories and spendin time with friends right? !

I ordered a turkey burger from these guys and it was just "ok". Nothing to get hyped over. They charged me an additional $2 for fries that weren't seasoned or anything. They should take fries off their menu. The person who decided to create their recipe for turkey burgers should take a lesson from Champp's which is the best restaurant serving these kind of burgers in my opinion. The world is changing. People aren't eating just beef anymore. People are more health conscious. Please get with the program guys!

Great local one-off eatery. We stopped in after a long day on the road. $2 Abita Ambers on Happy Hour really hit the spot. We also each did a bowl of soup, and added a grilled cheese for $1.99. Excellent service from Jessica. Lots of locals at nearby tables. Great experience. My only regret is not trying the daily special spaghetti and meatballs. Semper Fi!

A group of six of us stopped here after leaving NOLA. We had heard about this place from my best friend's father who stops here every time he's in town. He said that the shrimp and gumbo was good. We all ordered and tried each others' food. First, let me start by saying that your eyes will always be bigger than your belly when you come here. They give you alot of food, definitely worth the money! Two had the shrimp and fish basket that came with fries and toast. The fish was average but the shrimp was awesome. Both the shrimp and fish were seasoned well. Two had the Big Mo Jamma (I think that's the name), it was a huge sandwich with ham, turkey, roast beef, swiss cheese, and roast beef gravy. Just as the name suggests it's big and enough for two sandwiches. One person had the club, which was good, you know your typical club sandwich. I had the Irish Channel Gumbo. It was a large bowl that had seafood gumbo on one side and chicken and sausage gumbo on the other. It was divided and separated by a channel of homemade potato salad. It was delicious but way too much food. The seafood gumbo had shrimps and oysters in it and was good. However, I preferred the chicken and sausage gumbo, it had more flavor. I liked the fact that the gumbo had chunks of veggies like okra and tomatoes that were recognizable. Some of the gumbo I tried previously in NOLA had questionable ingredients. The atmosphere reminds me of a restaurant you'd find on the beach. It was very clean and inviting, kinda has a tropical vibe. Overall, I will definitely come back next time I'm passing through and try more of the menu items. It was great food!

First time I've ever tried fried calamari and no other place has ever compared after. Went to this place a few years ago after my sister first moved to Slidell. The food was delicious, but the service was slow. We went around 1:30 and the place was deserted. I would still return because the food was delicious!

Service was excellent! Portions were enough for 2 people. Crayfish balls were good. The seafood muffuletta was really good. Oysters were just right and a lot of them! Shrimp po' boy sandwich was just huge and delish ! The Rubin was well seasoned and heartily portioned. The ribeye sandwich was cooked to perfection. We all had a good time there.

Slidel, LA. Was staying near the restaurant while on a visit to NASA Stennis. The hotel recommended this place. From the outside the place was not inviting but once inside, it turned out to be quite pleasant. Sports bar with TV and plenty of tables. Ordered just the crayfish appetizer. It was delicious and the server was very friendly. Definitely a place to return to when in the area.

Had dinner at the Southside cafe on a recent Saturday night. We had 4 adults and 2 children. My opinion is that the food is average. It tasted fine but very light on seasoning. We had gumbo, shrimp po-boys and fish po-boys. Food came out fairly quick. Service was a little below average, server did not write our order down just listened to it as given. One of the kids did not get what they had ordered, and we were missing an extra order of fries when food was delivered. ( maybe she should have written the order down)Then we had trouble finding our server to get items corrected. She was more interested in watching the game on TV than serving us. I gave them 3 stars because of this. Could easily move up to 4 stars.

Hey - not too bad! Great location if you are heading to a swamp tour (or you just finished one). Just a basic restaurant, but my shrimp and oyster po'boy was pretty good and service was very quick and friendly. Lots of food on the plate - you probably won't leave hungry. I wouldn't go out of my way for this restaurant, but if you are in the area and need a meal, it works just fine!

Stopped on our trip out if New Orleans, wasn't sure what to expect since it is a "cafe" but we were very surprised. Much more like a bar and grill then a cafe. Food was amazing, great atmsophere along with very large menu that is sure to please everyone.

The fried seafood is awesome. Service is friendly and quick. It can be a noisy atmosphere but I'm good with that. Makes it interesting along with all the military memorabilia and photos. I enjoy this place and still have a hard time choosing what to eat. So far everything i have had from the fried oysters and shrimp to the turkey club has been great. I make weekly visits.

Not bad for sandwiches. I had the shrimp Po'boy, I thought it was pretty good and a decent portion. Prices were pretty good for the food you got. The person with me got a chicken parm sandwich which also looked pretty good and was a pretty good size. I would eat here again.

I had an awesome lunch here. I ordered the Reuben sandwich with fries. It was delicious and messy, as a good Reuben should be! I can't wait to go back to Slidell to dine here again.

SHRIMP AND OYSTER PO BOY! FRIED MUSHROOMS AND FRIED CALAMARI! I heart Southside!! After moving to SoCal almost 6 years ago, I've probably said "I miss Southside" at least one a month! (sigh) If you want some good Louisiana food, you've got to come here. Every time we visit home, we HAVE to eat at Southside. The service is super fast and super friendly. My hubby LOVES the gumbo - which is stockpiled with LOUISIANA Seafood. Louisiana Seafood makes all the difference! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! PS - I hear they have breakfast now...we'll have to try it out!

We pick up food to go at least every other Friday night from this restaurant for a group of 6 to 12 and the food is great and they offer something on the menu that will please everyone and the portions are more than generous. Some of the best suggestions are the 1.) Grilled Yellow Fin Tuna Salad as is made with an unexpected high level quality, fresh tuna, 2.) Fried fish platter (but be hungry) 3.) Reuben sandwhich, 4.) Big Mo Jama. 5) Shrimp and Oyster Po-Boys. Great atmosphere for all type of folks from singles at the bar to families with kids in dining room. If taking out and Ashley is handling your take out order, it will be 100% accurate whether it is one order or 15 orders.

Great Food, Atmosphere & Service. This place is always busy... with GOOD REASON. Large portions of very good food. You gotta try the GUMBO (seafood or chicken & sausage - they are both great), BURGERS, POBOYS or SEAFOOD PLATTER. - Love this place!

Service was absolutely terrible. The server was quite rude and not easy to work with. The amount of seafood on the poboys was slim to none.

Zach was our server, a little cheeky in a fun way. Our party of four had the prime rib special for $15. They were cooked over a flaming grill, incredible taste, similar to the ones I cook on my Lazy Man Grille at home. The medium steaks were medium rare, the medium rares were really rare, sent back, cam back perfect! Baked potatoes were perfect. Beware, there's lots of jingoistic decor hyping the military. Lots of skull & crossbones with death-dealing slogans. Not a positive environment, or a place for children, unless you're raising little killing machines.

I had a Ribeye Steak Sandwich on french bread, no mayo add creole mustard... This sandwich was soooooo good I didn't want to stop eating, despite being full. My left overs even tasted great the next day. The wait service there was average, nothing to write home abt. But that sandwich... Finger licking good!!!

I've been to Southside several times and have never been disappointed. They have great seafood and the chili cheese fries are awesome. I did get the turkey burger last time and wasn't impressed with it, but overall, it's a nice, casual place with a huge selection.

...during my roadtrip travels staying at the lovely Hampton Inn...I came across a local favorite of Slidell. The Southside cafe has great specialties and favorites of home style cooking. I ordered a hot dog for my daughter and loved that it came out grilled BBQ style! I ordered the southern fried steak...nice and crispy with a nice thick sauce. Definitely coming back the next time I am in town.

Ordered the crawfish balls as an appetizer. The remoulade sauce was plain and generic. The texture of the crawfish balls was pasty and didn't taste like they were cooked completely. Ordered the seafood combo for an entree. The oysters were under cooked. The fish and shrimp were mediocre at best. I know many people love this place but I would rather pay the New Orleans prices for better seafood.

Fan-freaking-tastic. My friends and I celebrated our dirty thirty birthdays in NOLA. After taking an awesome swamp tour at nearby Cajun Encounters, we were famished. We asked Captain Troy for a restaurant recommendation for lunch. Before we could finish the question, he insisted we go to Southside Cafe. I was a little worried when we pulled up. The name is misleading, the exterior is forgettable, and the interior looks like a sports bar. Once we were seated, we were quickly blown away by great food and service. We split 2 appetizers: crawfish balls (drool) and some sort of artichoke dish (they called it a dip, but it had more of a bread pudding texture). I also had a cup of perfectly seasoned chicken/sausage gumbo and a HUGE po'boy full of fresh, large oysters. YUM. You can't get food like that here in DC. To top it off, we had a great server. She was attentive but not intrusive, our drinks were never empty, and she happily split our checks for us. Great job, Southside Cafe! Bottom line: this was the best meal we ate in Louisiana. This is also the best dining experience I've had in a loooong time.

Went here with the family to have lunch. I had the fried shrimp plate and it was pretty good, nothing fancy. Restaurant was very crowded for a Monday afternoon, we were here around 1pm and it was full of families and it wasn't a holiday (??). Would go here again.

My daughter had moved to Slidell and we decided to try this one based on reviews. First off we had trouble garnering anyone's attention to get menus and drinks. Bad sign and we likely should have stood up and walked out. We did not. It took forever to get our food and the order was not complete. It was not worth the trouble to get the items removed from the bill but we won't go back. There are some really good restaurants in Slidell-this is not one of them.

Great place to grab a beer and watch the game. Kinda loud and usually busy this is a great neighborhood bar and grill.

Home cooking New Orleans style on the Northshore. Great food and great service. Biker nights are interesting too.

If you ever visit Slidell, LA I highly recommend this restaurant. We started with the Crawfish Balls. They are deep fried crawfish meat and stuffing served with a very tangy remoulade sauce. For entrees I had the muffalatta and my companions opted for the Southern Fried Steak with Gravy and the Red Beans and Rice with Smoked Sausage. The Souuthern Fried steak was tasty. Served with a side of Vegatable and Beef Soup, also tasty. The Red Beans and rice were not the best we've had (and not nearly as good as I make it at home) but still quite good. An extra link of grilled sausage was served on the side as well as a piece of garlic bread and the sausage was delicious. The Muffalatte was clearly the star of the show. Served on seemingly fresh baked and slightly toasted bread, it was stuffed with ham, mortadella, genoa salami, provolone, and olive salad. The atmosphere was early Marine Corps and the restaurant included a full bar which was serving happy hour specials when we arrived. It was a large open area with hardwood floors, which made it quite loud, but the food was very good.

Have loved this place since the first night we moved here three years ago. Great place for family's to eat and socialize. We split one portion of chips/French fries as there is enough for two people. They always serve their draft beer in iced tankards so a great chilled beer all the way through. Can get very busy on Thursday night which I think is Bike night and again on Friday evening when the cafe is quite full, they use a booking system then and give out electronic pagers that buzz and flash when your table is ready

I didn't see anyone at the cafe who looked like they were leaving hungry, and I sure didn't. I read the reviews below and thought that Hamburger Steak sounded good. One of my two traveling partners had the same and the other tried the stuffed shrimp. We'd started with a pitcher of Abita Pale and an order of calimari. I had the vegetable beef soup of the day and the other two had gumbo. Good food and plenty of it. The bill was less than I expected and we left satisfied.

This is a great place for Slidell, LA We always start with the Spinach dip and fried pita chips. The portions are always generous, and the service is fairly quick...especially since it is always packed to the gill. The first time I went...I had a burger which was delicious, and huge. This time...I got a local favorite...Hamburger steak and fries. My dad got a shrimp po-boy which was over flowing with shrimp, and my mom got a patty melt which she had a hard time finishing. The food is a little on the salty side, but super good!!

WE tried this place a couple months ago. It was okay. They brought my husband the wrong sandwich though. We weren't really that impressed. I got a seafood plate which was okay...nothing special. I did enjoy the eggplant sticks though. We probably won't be back. Too many other restaurants to try.

I wish there was one of these in Navarre. The menu was quite varied and everything I had was good. Their homemade "white remoulade" sauce was very tasty. The service was really fast as well. The whole place is decorated in Marine memorabilia, and there are a bunch of flat screen TVs located around the bar area. They have a full bar. I felt that prices were reasonable for the quality of the food, though the sandwiches do not come with any sides. They must be ordered separately. Also, they do not take AMEX.

One of my all time favorite places I go in the Dell. It's another one that I have been eating at since they opened when I was a kid. Owner is a retired Marine so first off, OOHRAH! Great sandwiches. Anything that is a fried chicken filet in between buns is huge. Cheese fries, Killa Dog, catfish, and burgers, are the way to go. Bike night is quite an attraction to behold. Good beer, good times.

I've been going to Southside Cafe since I was a kid growing up in Slidell. I used to ride my bike here to get French Fry poboys with brown gravy. Mmmm! Well since then they have had a fire and Hurricane Katrina, and I have to say, I think its better now than it ever was. The place was cool before and looks even better now. Its decorated in wall-to-wall US Marine memorabilia and its always made me feel a little patriotic. The food, much like the atmosphere, is casual, sttraightforward, American goodness. Last night I my wife and I sat at the bar. We started off with a few Abita Andygators and Spinach dip. I love that they have Andygator on tap. It's becoming more popular and is being served at more places than it used to, but I still think that when you go to a place that has it on tap you know your at a place that cares a little about beer selection. They also had Saint Arnold's on tap too. Another one of my favorites. The spinach dip came with some thick chips that appeared to be homemade and fresh. We also got a side of salsa and sour cream for around a dollar. For dinner we split half of a muffaletta. That and the spinach dip was plenty enough food and the sandwich was okay, but I feel like they could've gone a little heavier on the meat, cheese, and olive salad. All of their other portions are very generous and I was really surprised with the skimp on the sandwich fixins. The service was great and it was a great casual atmosphere. We'll be back soon.

We just moved to this area from our beloved CA (yay, what a change!) and we wanted to try a local restaurant rather than going to a restaurant chain. This place did not disappoint. I ordered grilled tuna sandwich with remoulade sauce was good...the fish was a little overdone since I ordered medium but still nice and tender. Next time, I have to order rare and see how it comes out. My husband's chicken melt came out almost perfect (big juicy chicken breast). They didn't have mac and cheese for my 3 year old girl but the server was helpful to suggest she can exchange rice as side to fried shrimp and it worked well. I had one drink..Southside lemonade...one of their original drinks and man...IT WAS SO GOOD! Crowded place but food still came quickly.

Found this on Yelp and the reviews of the Ribeye Sandwich were compelling. Decided to check it out... and the place did not disappoint. The steak sandwich served on French Bread was more delicious with every bite. Simple and delish- steak, lettuce, tomato (spared the mayo) and bread. Washed down with a couple of ice cold draft Abita ambers... great dinner. Wednesday is bike night which packs them in the parking lot. Good people watching and machine admiring. Oh did I mention 2 buck drafts (any) served in chilled mugs? Of course I didn't because your still reading this...

Definitely a great local place. We had a good gumbo, onion strings and po boy. Great service. My only complaint was that the portions were too big.

The food is pretty good here they have good apps and speciality drinks this seems like it would be a good place to hang out with friends at. There are a bunch of flat screen TV's by the bar. The service is a little lacking here also when I went it was very crowded.

this is as good as it gets in the Dell. great apps (yellow fin tuna remoulade) & specialty drinks. fantastic sandwiches & have steak night a couple nights a week. ice cold abita beer on draft and even serve original barqs rutbeer in the bottle-- for da little ones! cool place to just hang, not too many joints left on da southsiiiiiiiide!

On of my favorite places to eat... Almost always packed, but once you're seated, the wait staff really hustles. (I can never resist ordering 'Killa Fries' as an appetizer, even though I know I won't be able to finish my lunch/dinner when it arrives!) My only complaint is the noise level - particularly when there's a game on the TV. The hardwood floors really bounce the sound around. (Jeesh... I'm complaining about the noise. Does that mean I'm getting old?) I highly recommend. You'll never leave Southside hungry.

(5)Carlos C.

Food: Delicious, authentic and fresh Service: Spot on, friendly and quick Atmosphere: Patriotic, 100s of military decor items Price: Great
(4)Chelsey R.

(4)Steve I.
(4)Charles C.
Fun festive great place with a wide selection of great food. Owner is a former US Marine and has a lot of memorabilia in the place. The staff are efficient and friendly. The prices are reasonable. We have been there several times and will go MANY more.
(5)Charlene J.
(5)Tieu M.
So I personally wouldn't come here again. The food is bland and not really anything special. They so have a good assortment on their menu. The staff is friendly and helpful. I personally don't think it's worth a valuable meal in my life.
(2)Bev R.
(5)Joy G.

(4)John K.
Blackened Tuna sandwich is the best!!!
(5)Carmen S.
(5)Jessica M.
The Wednesday happy hour is the best. But I would go just for a solid chicken sandwich anyways. It's nice to have a restaurant with more than just fried foods. Hard find in the south hah
(5)Darren D.
(4)Captain T.

Great roast beef po boys!

(3)Steph D.
Definitely a great place to eat. My favorite is the French onion soup!
(4)Angela M.
The food is average, the service is always terrible and yet we always come back... for almost 20 years now. Maybe it's the atmosphere?
(2)HB S.
(5)Angie T.
(4)Krystine S.
(3)John L. H.
If I owned a restaurant, I suspect it would be a lot like Southside Café. You see, I am a dude that loves good food, beer and guns. Southside somehow combines all three. The food Southside's menu is traditional American fare. We started with an order of chili cheese fries which were very good. I am normally not a fan of chili on fries, but theirs was subtle enough that it didn't overpower the dish. I could discuss the finer point of cheese fries all day, but I'll move on to my entrée. Thanks to my Yelp buddy Teneha, I went with the rib eye steak sandwich. It was very good. Most places don't offer actual steak on a sandwich unless you're getting a Philly so this version was extra special. Another plus is that they will cook it to order. If you like steak sandwiches, get this sandwich. The beer While not the most expansive list I've ever seen, Southside had a respectable selection of beers which included Guinness. The guns I think he owner is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Tributes to troops were prominently displayed as well as several very cool guns. I spotted what looked like an M1 Garand, M14, M16 and a Thompson. Anytime I can drink beer, eat good food, and stare at guns, it is a good day. If you're in the Slidell area and want a good, casual meal, I encourage you to check out Southside Café.
(4)Amalie T.
Great food and very friendly staff! We used them for thanksgiving last year and loved their artichoke casserole and bread pudding. We love this place and their laid back attitude.
(4)Rebecca N.
(5)Kristen V.
Excellent food! Had crawfish balls which were very good -good spicy sauce ;) I also had a grilled cheese and seafood gumbo; absolutely wonderful gumbo.
(5)Jennifer G.
(5)Tiffany H.
(3)Johnny B.
The service was fast and friendly. The food was great. We had the seafood platter and the strawberry salad ! I would recommend this place!
(4)Tara N.
Just finished up our first meal here, I wasn't starving so I ordered a side salad (they have great honey mustard) and a bowl Of chicken and sausage gumbo, the gumbo was awesome! My fiancé ordered the shrimp basket, with a salad and chicken/sausage gumbo, the basket had tons of shrimp in it and was very good, I had to try a couple. :) The atmosphere is really cool, great decor! Also, our server was very sweet. We will be back! Apparently they have brunch all day Sundays so we may come back on a Sunday for that!
(5)Jeffrey G.
I've been eating and drinking here since 1998. Very fun place to go grab a beer and some appetizers. Highly recommended for weekend lunch and a perfect parade spot during Mardi Gras!
(5)Bubba S.
Went on 12/28/14 with family. Would have given 5 stars but service was a little slow. Fox was great and I'll be back
(4)Marie F.
(5)Allie L.
(3)Ashley B.
(5)Michael R.
Great casual restaurant with great food. Great service too! Very pro military which as a Veteran, I appreciate. The place has great decorations representing the area & military. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is their meals don't come with a side. Just price it with a side since most people order it that way. Will definitely come again!
(4)Linda D.
Eat the Pontchartrain Pig! It's the best!
(5)Donna W.
(5)Debbie A.
(5)Dwain C.
(4)Cindy P.
Always loved the roast beef poboy. They HAD the best until they changed it to thick slices. Much better thin sliced roast beef. Please go back to what you did best
(3)C W.
The best restaurant in Slidell!
(5)Aimee S.
(5)Brown P.
Was referred to here by our captain of Cajun Adventures and we enjoyed it very much. It felt like the south's version of a Chili's. Food was good and staff were all very friendly and accommodating to our party. even received 15% off for checking via yelp!
(3)Kory G.
This is one of the places that I can visit 10 years from now and it would still be great
(5)Nastasia V.

(3)C P.
Everything here is delicious! Always great service too. We go here about once a month just for the poboys and loaded fries.
(5)Wayne W.

The food is consistent, the staff is friendly and competent, great atmosphere with huge portions with just about everything you order. 100% would recommend.

Semper fidelis! Great atmosphere and wonderful poboys! Incredible collection of memoribilia. SHRIMP AND OYSTER poboy is my favorite.

First time I've ever tried fried calamari and no other place has ever compared after. Went to this place a few years ago after my sister first moved to Slidell. The food was delicious, but the service was slow. We went around 1:30 and the place was deserted. I would still return because the food was delicious!

Great tuna fish salad! Yummy po boys :) Mostly Friendly server, seemed like the manager. Sunday bloody mary is $5. Tons of options on the menu. Bright green building

(3)Jason B.
Love it. Great service and food. Good atmosphere. Will be back someday! They sell a really hot hot sauce too. The guy that owns this place must be a cool dude.....shut up and eat.....

Stopped on our trip out if New Orleans, wasn't sure what to expect since it is a "cafe" but we were very surprised. Much more like a bar and grill then a cafe. Food was amazing, great atmsophere along with very large menu that is sure to please everyone.
(4)Jonathan A.
(5)Dan C.
Not bad for sandwiches. I had the shrimp Po'boy, I thought it was pretty good and a decent portion. Prices were pretty good for the food you got. The person with me got a chicken parm sandwich which also looked pretty good and was a pretty good size. I would eat here again.
(3)Brad D.

(5)David A.
(4)Mike B.
(5)Kelsi W.
Service was absolutely terrible. The server was quite rude and not easy to work with. The amount of seafood on the poboys was slim to none.
(1)Eric H.
(3)Teneha B.
(4)Chelsea C.
I've been to Southside several times and have never been disappointed. They have great seafood and the chili cheese fries are awesome. I did get the turkey burger last time and wasn't impressed with it, but overall, it's a nice, casual place with a huge selection.
(4)Darnell G.
I love the atmosphere here! I mostly come here to get the grilled shrimp spinach salad which is awesome! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu....it's all good!
(4)Jeff M.
I like the shrimp poboy here. The service last time was very slow. My food sat in the warming table a long time before the waitress picked it up.
(3)Michi B.
...during my roadtrip travels staying at the lovely Hampton Inn...I came across a local favorite of Slidell. The Southside cafe has great specialties and favorites of home style cooking. I ordered a hot dog for my daughter and loved that it came out grilled BBQ style! I ordered the southern fried steak...nice and crispy with a nice thick sauce. Definitely coming back the next time I am in town.
(4)Jon M.

After hearing great things about this place, we finally decided to stop in. The service was great, food was delicious, and the atmospheres is nice! We will be coming back!

(2)Shawn L.
Great place to grab a beer and watch the game. Kinda loud and usually busy this is a great neighborhood bar and grill.
(4)John M.
Home cooking New Orleans style on the Northshore. Great food and great service. Biker nights are interesting too.
(4)Sherri W.

(4)Murky B.
(5)Bobbe G.
(5)Amanda S.
WE tried this place a couple months ago. It was okay. They brought my husband the wrong sandwich though. We weren't really that impressed. I got a seafood plate which was okay...nothing special. I did enjoy the eggplant sticks though. We probably won't be back. Too many other restaurants to try.
(2)Dena S.
(4)Rhett J.
(5)Andre N.

(4)Otis M.
(4)Jeff M.
Great menu and atmosphere. Food is above average.
(5)Mark O.
Definitely a great local place. We had a good gumbo, onion strings and po boy. Great service. My only complaint was that the portions were too big.
(4)Jess M.
The food is pretty good here they have good apps and speciality drinks this seems like it would be a good place to hang out with friends at. There are a bunch of flat screen TV's by the bar. The service is a little lacking here also when I went it was very crowded.
(4)Steve H.
this is as good as it gets in the Dell. great apps (yellow fin tuna remoulade) & specialty drinks. fantastic sandwiches & have steak night a couple nights a week. ice cold abita beer on draft and even serve original barqs rutbeer in the bottle-- for da little ones! cool place to just hang, not too many joints left on da southsiiiiiiiide!
(5)jason l.
best place to hang out in slidell. great seafood, beer & atmosphere!
(5)Linda C.
(5)Jerry S.
Busy place with great New Orleans style food. Eat here often.
