I am only giving this place and extra star because I love their Tuna Avocado salad. It is the only thing good about this place. The people working there seem nice, but other than the Tuna Avocado salad I have not had a positive experience there. One time when I went I ordered the Five (four?) Seasons roll and kept getting this whiff of something sour. I thought maybe it was the tuna inside, but that smell fine. I finally realized it was the orange tobiko. It was rancid! I had my cousin smell it and she was in denial saying that's how it always smells, but I knew better. She ate the rolls with the orange tobiko and paid for it later. Another time, I ordered the Toro and it was not even close to being Toro. It was all chewy and tough. Toro is not supposed to be tough or chewy.

Think I'm finally calling it quits on Osaka. Food has always been ok, but the people that work there are just going through the motions and make you feel like you should hurry up, pay and leave... No recent new specials or anything to spice up the experience. The prices keep going up and the experienc and food keep going down. Bad combination. Beware.... This place is at the closing stage...

How has this place not been shut down by the Board of Health? I saw multiple roaches while I was there and a baby roach crawled across our table as we were paying the bill. I pointed it out to the server and she did nothing. In retrospect, we should've walked out halfway through the meal but I didn't want to cause a scene. The snow crab salad is ORANGE! Why?! It tastes nothing like snow crab. The sushi was dismal. The presentation was like something you'd see on a cruise ship. The server did not understand any of my questions about the menu. The entire experience was laughable and I will never be back.

Ummmm. I'm gonna have to say no. A big fat hell no, in fact. I like to think of myself as a pretty good cook. I've been cooking since I was old enough to pull a chair up to the stove in my grandmother's (also known as the most badass cook in the south:)) kitchen. She taught me everything I know about cooking and I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, but...I'm pretty badass at it myself thanks to that wonderful lady. That being said...sushi and Japanese cuisine isn't really a cuisine that I'm well schooled in. I know all about the art of eating it, but preparation? Not so much. But I have to wonder. How hard could it possibly be to mess up tempura? Think about it. That stuff is hella bland and just basically breaded and fried, right? Osaka can't even get tempura right. It's just not good here. At all. Don't even get me started on the sushi here. Slowly back away you guys. I don't even like cats, but I wouldn't even feed my neighborhood stray this crap.

Presentation a bit sloppy but fresh and flavorful. Friendly staff. I would eat there again. After reading the reviews I was worried. But it turned out ok. Not oh my gosh I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in the area, but satisfied my sushi craving.

A year or two ago I would have given Osaka's Five stars....not now, unfortunately. The service is always terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE. Everyone here is either rude or incredible disconnected. The sushi is good but NOT always. You have to catch them on a good day I guess.

Stopped by for lunch today wit the peeps and we had the Volcano Roll, Hollywood Roll and Salmon Sashimi. The sashimi tasted fresh but the rolls weren't! The volcano roll was edible but the Hollywood roll was a big failed. Usually the cucumber should be nice and crunchy to hold the sushi together but this was bitter and wilted, like it's been sitting there under the sun for hours. My sushi kept falling apart. The imitation crab from this place is nasty, its really separated and not clumpy like most places. The service wasn't all that great. I've only seen my server when she took our orders and she never came back to check up on us. I had to flag down a busser for spicy mayo. If this wasn't the closest place we could get sushi in Slidell to satisfy our cravings, trust me we would not be here.

I have been here twice now, one time for each of my birthday boys on different years. This year, we got quite a sampling from the sushi bar, and it was some of the best damn sushi I've had in the area. For serious. This is a big deal for someone who has been known to eat sushi for two or more consecutive meals (not leftovers) on one day and on more than one occasion. Holy crap that shit was good. I can't for the life of me remember what we ordered, and I am far too lazy to pull up their sushi list to be explicit, but trust me - order some of their specialty rolls and prepare to be impressed. As far as the hibachi, like I said, I have only come here for kids' birthdays, and it is what it is. I'm not a big fan of stir fry chinese food at all - it's pretty much always the same and pretty much way too bland for my taste. That said, they serve monstrous portions, which should serve a normal person (not me) a couple of meals' worth of food (good because the prices are SPENSY). The last time we went, they only had one poor dude manning all 4 of the group hibachi tables, and he was stressed the eff out. He was so stressed he totally botched the onion volcano and didn't pop any food items for our waiting, baby seal mouths. This made me sad face. I love flying food. Of course, the pitiful lack of enthusiasm with which he flatly said "vorcano" :-| during the 1.567258 second display before he destroyed it, backhanding it into the pile of indistinguishable soy sauce infused muck, got us all tickled in its sadness and irony, but that's more a look into my family's sick psychology and not a comment on the experience itself. Wait, what? In a nutshell: bring the kids for their b-days. Be grateful for flying shrimp and showmanship. Also be glad you won't have to pack a lunch for work tomorrow. Get the sushi, get the sushi, get the sushi.

Ohhhh.....Saka. Ok do my inner sushi-Fu master quietly advised me that it might not be the best decision to have sushi @ a place where every single teppanyaki (sp) table was full & no one was sitting @ the sushi bar. Did I listen to my sushi-fu master? Sure didn't. Should have tho. The sweet shrimp were mushy, the toro I stupidly ordered was not fatty tuna, it was chewy tuna with extra connective tissue. Scallops were soggy & water logged. Sushi wise there was nothing pleasant. The deep fried, ponzu & mayo dripping, rolled in tempura flake, crab stick I-10 roll was actually pretty good for what it was. Stay very far away from this place.

So I decided to give it another shot .. this time we went for hibachi. I do NOT recommend it. I ordered scallops with no rice and extra veggies. What I got was a plate of almost raw scallops and NO extra veggies. But. I did get. To pay full price which was $13.95. My daughter fared better. She ordered a medium steak hibachi.. she got rice and veggies and as an added bonus a well done steak. And all of this for the low price of $12.95. When they told us we would have a bit of a wait because they only had one chef I wasnt overly concerned. My mistake.I should have been. It took over an hour for him to get to our table. As you know, we tend to pay for hibachi because its a show and a meal.. not today.. there was zero show and a very rushed meal.. So, that was it for me. No more will I pay ridiculous amounts of hard earned cash to eat at Osaka.. I will take myself over to southside from here on out!

Bad experience, 1st time since new management and after Katrina. The bill was 90 something dollas and guess what? Not a tip from me for the way the waittress talked to us. We had to hunt her down just to get our bill, I asked many times from the bus-girl, the hostesses if we could put in an order for green tea ice cream, but the waittress was nowhere to be found. She was rude and even told the table behind us to wait because she was waiting on other customers. Sorry but Im a waittress myself and I would never tell my customers that, at least apologize for the delay and bring them something to munch on while waiting. What a bitch! The food was good and came out in good time but was nothing special for me to go oooh and aaahhh about.
