Blackened chicken salad was on the special menu the Friday we were there, and it was huge with generous portions of chicken and tasty dressing. In addition, a Po-boy, the one Guy ate, which I thought was only so-so, but the plate of onion rings could have been a whole meal, wonderful :) The ambience isn't much, but it isn't supposed to be. The food is what counts here. Small place, nothing special about the surroundings, but save your judgment for the food and treat yourself to the onion rings as you peruse the rest of the menu.

Like the local feel of the place. Loved the fact that Guy Fieri from the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives had been here for a taping. Enjoyed seeing his name on the wall. Food was okay, would go back for a quick bite.

Great place to eat breakfast and lunch. I've been going here since this place opened when I was a kid. All breakfast is serve fast and friendly and delicious. Lunchtime in Slidell means get the "basic burger" at L.A. Pines. I always ask for grilled onions on mine. Absolutely to die for! OM to the NOM!

So, I guess it's only me but I find the staff totally flat and almost rude to a point. I've been here 3 times.. the last two were for to go orders because I didn't want to deal with the grouchy waitresses. I LOVE their grilled shrimp salad and will probably still get it to go when working in the area but I won't go out of my way to go here.

Small town dive on the Northshore. This place was made famous because of Triple D. My girlfriend and I went on New Year's Eve morning and were excited to try out some of the lunch dishes that Triple D made famous. We were not informed that they were limited to breakfast only because of the holiday?! Still determined we selected from the many eggs benedict choices on the breakfast menu. I ordered the traditional eggs benedict while my girlfriend ordered the Cajun benedict, eggs benedict on a crab cake served on a bed of hash browns. We figured that with such a prominent placement on the menu the eggs benedict would be on point. Sadly we were disappointed, the poached eggs were overcooked with only one yolk having a slight runny texture. The crab cake was more filler than crab and was an unappealing brown color. The hollandaise was lacking the needed acid to cut through the richness of the butter. The service was fine and friendly. The restaurant was divey, down to the bug zapper above my girlfriend's head, but the restaurant was clean. We were a bit surprised that the restaurant closed at noon on New Year's Eve, considering they normally close at 2 pm. The staff did seem to be in a hurry to get people out, repeatedly reminding a table behind us that they were closing at noon. This place is not a place I would go out of my way for breakfast, which it is a bit considering it is nearly 2 miles off the freeway. If lunch was available it may have been a different story.

Yep. It's a dive. But the food, although not memorable, was ok. We went in for lunch and were seated right away. Our server was polite and efficient. I had the Philly Cheese Steak which is served on Texas Toast. It was really good albeit different to what I'm used too. My hubs had the Mama Jim's Debris. He enjoyed it. Although, hence the name, it's pretty messy. For dessert, we ordered the bread pudding. That was just blah. All in all, we had a decent meal but we won't be itchin' to return.

My boyfriend and I drove out of our way on a trip to New Orleans to visit this place. We'd seen the episode of DDD and were eager to check it out. We came on New Years Eve, which was clearly a mistake. La Pines was closing at noon and we arrived at eleven to find out that they were only serving breakfast - major bummer when you wanted to try the special from DDD that was a lunch sandwich. The breakfast menu was limited, but there were several eggs Benedict's on the menu and at prices that were far more reasonable than we'd seen in NOLA so we thought SCORE! We ordered one traditional and one cajun benedict as well as the hash brown casserole. We were told that they were out. Shame, but we settled with the benedict's. This place definitely put the Dive in Diners Drive ins and Dive's (there was a bug zapper on the wall over my head...) but we're no snobs and it didn't have the vibe of being dirty. All the wait staff seemed seasoned and the service was generally pleasant. Several folks came in and walked back out after hearing it was only breakfast - an option we weren't afforded until we had already sat down and been given menus and drinks. Anyway, the food came to the table and looked simple but pleasant enough. The cajun was meant to come on a crab cake which I originally thought was a mistake - it looked like it came on a sausage patty instead. We were each going to have one of the eggs on each plate and I began with the cajun. Not a sausage patty at all. I'm still unsure of how it got to be that color but it wasn't an appetizing look at all. There seemed to be a lot more filler than crab in the cake itself as well. The egg was the real problem, though. We make benedict at home for ourselves fairly often and I love nothing more than a runny yolk to spread out over my breakfast! Yum! One of our four eggs had a slightly gelled yolk. The rest were solid. We thought we were safe ordering the dish from a place that had so many on the menu but it seems not. Overall it wasn't a terrible lunch, especially for the price. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to vista, though.

Visited for the first time In about three years. Went for breakfast on Sunday morning as I was craving pancakes. Greeted with a smile by the hostess at the door but my waitress seemed a bit less enthusiastic about my presence. Quickly received a cup of coffee and placed my order. I was AMAZED at how fast it came out, especially given the crowd in the restaurant. The meal itself was typical "dive" fair. Nothing fancy or outstanding, almost institutional. But, I didn't order anything fancy, so it's what I expected. I enjoyed the meal but feel it may be another three years or so before I go back as it's just sorta "plain". Prefer Terry Lynn's in Old Towne.

One of the few local breakfast place. A real hole in the wall. The servers could be friendlier but they seem friendly enough to the regulars. We had to wait a little bit to get attention and they were not even that busy. But the coffee was piping hot ( a plus ), food reasonably priced and seemed cooked fresh. We had basic breakfast of scrambled eggs, corned beef hash (delicious but corned beef probably the canned variety- i just can't resist trying it) and wheat toast but there seem to be a lot of choices, even sugar watchers' menu. So we will be again and try other items on the menu. Very good value.

Is this a diner or a dive? Not quite sure... When you enter the place it doesnt look like much.... it's like a local hole in the wall breakfast joint. The food here was excellent! I got pancakes - with peanut butter and banana's! They were so yummy! If you are going to the Honey Island Swamp Tours, this place is a great spot to stop by and get a bite to eat on your way there or out.

This place was awesome! I had no clue it was featured on TV but found out when I got there! I am a Vegan and so my breakfast was not on the menu but made up on the fly when I got there! It was one of the best tasting breakfast I have had in a long time at least out to eat! Perfectly seasoned and delicious! I want more now please! I took pictures of their menu since when I was researching this place online before I went someone mentioned it was impossible to find online! I highly recommend checking this place out! I will most likely stop by again when I am on vacation! Amazing! I was also in a hurry to get to a Swamp Tour and our waitress was amazing and delivered our food in a timely manner!

I was at LaPines twice in a week. The first breakfast was the skillet breakfast. It was tasty and filling. Nothing super special, but certainly acceptable. In my prior visit the waitress said the Philly Cheese Steak Omelette was delicious and popular. So, on my second visit I thought I'd try it. What a horrible looking omelette; flat, weird color, just thin sitting naked on the plate. It tasted bland, looked bland and was a horrible breakfast. The waitress was a grandma type, no personality, other than asking for my order she had no personality at all. Seemed unhappy to be there. Not that she had to entertain me, I liked grandma types. All in all, a good first experience and a poor second experience. p.s. the biscuit was good though!!

I had high hopes for this place and intended to go at breakfast but only made it to and unusually early lunch time. The fact that I couldn't order breakfast made me a bit bitter... Unlike their pleasant coffee. Though at the time I wouldn't have minded retrying it the bf was unsatisfied and I eventually got there. I got a grilled shrimp po-boy. HOLY SALT. So salty. It didn't need it. And very unfortunate. The fries were good but clearly not fresh but from a bag. I had acid reflux the rest of the day. Go but be warned.

I'm not La Pines biggest fan. I know people kind of rave about it, but I've been seriously underwhelmed dining here. I went for breakfast not long ago with the boy who loves bacon more than any person that I know. It was packed and it was only 8 in the morning. All he wanted was bacon and toast. They were out of bacon, the waitress tells me. Really? How in the hell does a restaurant known for their breakfast run out of BACON?! At eight in the morning?! Ummm. Ok. Moving along. I ordered sausage and toast for him instead. I ordered myself my favorite breakfast item ever...eggs over easy. Oh. We are out of eggs the waitress informs me. Uh. WTF? Seriously?! I just didn't order anything for myself because I was sort of disgusted at that point. The coffee was good and the waitress was friendly and apologetic but I was left with a bad impression of the place. I recently dined here again at lunch despite the previous visit and again, was not impressed. I ordered the grilled shrimp poboy and it was very bland. I am always surprised when I order something in a restaurant around here and it's bland considering where we live. I mean, am I right!? I won't be back.

I saw this restaurant on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I just had to come check it out. It definitely is a dive, that's for sure. It's a great little place! Actually we left a day early for our trip just to be able to come. I had seen pictures of the onion rings and I heard they were large. I had no idea that they were THAT LARGE! Look on my picture and use the spoon in the sauce for comparison. I don't have a clue where they get them that big. I got the Prime Rib Poboy. It was so good. I loved the smoked flavor. I also loved driving up and seeing the smoker right out front cooking away. The waitress, Laura, we had was very helpful. Gave us advice on how to eat the sandwich without making too big of a mess. I used about 6 napkins between the onion rings and the sandwich. Laura even got us a drink to go. So glad we came. We are going to try to get back here Sunday morning for breakfast if we can. It's definitely worth checking out. It's a great little dive! Well.... Since lunch was so good on Thursday, we decided to try breakfast on Sunday. It was also very good. Wish I could have eaten more than I did. Everything looked so good. I'm sitting around looking at what everybody has ordered, and it all looked so good. I finally ordered grits, sausage biscuit, and hash browns. It was all very good. My husband got Cajun Eggs Benedict. It was crab cakes and poached eggs on a bed of hash browns, covered with Hollandaise sauce. He loved it. Again we had great service and wonderful service in this amazing little Dive. I look forward to coming back here next trip!!!

Found this place on our DDD app....drove out of our way on our trip to GA from TX to try it and glad we did. Had the smoked prime rib po-boy.....yum! It is recommended to eat it upside down to avoid it falling apart. One of the best I have ever had. Customer service was great and attentive!

Had their meatloaf special and it was perfect. It comes with a slice of meatloaf the size of my forearm, cheesy potato gratin, spiced green beans, and a buttery biscuit all for $6.95. Will be back whenever I'm up in Slidell.

In Slidell for business, randomy found this place which turned out extrememely well for us :) The food: We came here for breakfast. I got the shrimp omelette which is a shrimp and cheese omelette topped off with a roux based sauce with crawfish. It was a nice hearty start to the morning. Their grits are nice and toothsome especially with some butter. My wife got the number 4 special which I believe is a short stack of pancakes with corned beef hash. The hash is so-so, pancakes are pretty good. The coffee however, was a bit dilute. The ambiance: a small town dive feel with very casual decor and simple furniture. Seems to be mostly locals here who know each other. Very down-home feel, I love it. Parking: a bit limited, but people are always coming and going Overall: pretty deserving for a feature on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Stop by if you are anywhere north of New Orleans!

After our swamp tour we drove around sleepy little Slidell to see what this town had to offer. It seems pleasant enough and it's definitely off the tourist grid. While we didn't find a ton to do in the rest of Slidell, we did spot this local hole-in-the-wall restaurant for lunch. There is a big banner outside the restaurant letting everyone know that Guy Fieri from the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives had been here for a taping. While I do enjoy watching that show on occasion, he seems to love every single thing he puts in his mouth so I'm not sure he's really the best judge. But nonetheless, we were game and looked forward to being somewhere not filled with tourists like us. Inside it seemed like most of the people were in fact locals and knew the waitresses. Our waitress, like nearly everyone I've found in Louisiana, was unfailingly polite and willing to explain anything that we Northerners needed to know. They're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was buzzing with people and conversation when we arrived but we were able to get a table right away. On the lunch menu we found the tried and true Louisiana staples. There's an assortment of po'boys like oyster or shrimp, (dressed or undressed), crawfish dishes, good southern style red beans and rice, fried catfish, fried okra (a personal fave), and other local Lousiana dishes. The desserts on the menu which we didn't try due to the fullness factor, were things like "Mama Jim's Almost World Famous Fudge Pie with or without ice cream and Homemade Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce. I die for good bread pudding and while I was tempted, I just couldn't do it. They don't serve alcohol which was really a surprise since it seems to me alcohol is sold just about everywhere in Louisiana including in CVS. But our waitress did tell us that if we wanted to go down the road to "pick up some beer" they would be happy to serve it or anything else that tickled our fancy. We demurred on this although brown-bagging it might be a convenient option since nothing goes with a salty po'boy better than a beer, imho. Guy Fieri and his Food Network show aside, I thought the food was good but not outstanding. I was however happy to try a place off the beaten track that locals frequent. If you're in Slidell for a swamp tour or something else (although with all due respect, I'm still not sure what that something else would be), I do think you should pop in for a little something. I like supporting these local places especially with such welcoming, hardworking staff. So y'all get yourselves down to Slidell. A swamp tour and LA. Pines isn't a bad combo.

I had high hopes for this place because of the sign that said it was on Diners, drive ins and dives, well it is definitely a dive! I had the Open faced roast beef platter and the meat was good but the gravy was as thick as hot fudge and very salty. The mashed potatoes were obviously instant and the macaroni and cheese was pretty much just a big ball of oily cheese. My mother had the chef salad. Now you may be thinking to yourself, how can you screw up a salad... Well right off the bat there was no dressing with the salad as we requested ranch dressing. the salad itself was red! they should call it paprika chef salad because they put it everywhere and normally you get some form of crackers with a salad, well not here. Add three pieces of cherry tomatoes and some long strips of unidentifiable meat atop a bed of mostly white iceberg lettuce and that's what they call a salad..... Who is the "Chef" in this place???

I have been here several times since I moved to Slidell, and it has been an awesome experience every time. That says a lot because my first choice is usually to try something new, but I just keep coming back. This has become my new favorite place for breakfast. Lunch is pretty good too. The price is great and the waitresses have always been friendly. The portions are large! Some of my favorites: pancakes, homefries, country skillet, biscuits and gravy, cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, au gratin potatoes, corn pudding, and of course the prime rib po' boy. Maybe next time I'll get out of my comfort zone and go for some traditional Louisiana cuisine!

We eat here an average of once a week. Service is always fantastic!!! My favorite is breakfast...fresh and homemade. They actually put butter on the whole piece of toast, not just in the middle like most places. Coffee is really good. Not a fancy place - which are usually the best :)

Best muffaletta outside Central Grocery in New Orleans. Had that and seafood gumbo which was absolutely excellent. The guys topped off lunch with fudge pie. Prices are so low ($14 for a whole muffaletta which is two lunches for two people). The next day after our swamp tour we went back and ordered a whole sandwich this time so we had half to eat and half to take back to Panama City Beach. I think we would like to spend a week in Slidell and eat something different every day. Their complete smoked prime rib dinner is under $9! Fun pick from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

You must go onThursday nights for Rib Eye steak night. A beautiful backyard cooked ribeye steak, with the best baked potato ever cooker perfect. If you are looking for fancy you will not see that. Just a small town mom & pop restaurant that delivers great food with no fuss. Breakfast is also a great hit the eggs benidic is great, as well as corned beef hash. When your dining for breakfast or dinner you walk out satisfied.

I've made about twenty attempts to eat at this establishment and finally was successful in finding them open. This place is definitely a dive and I was surprised they didn't have any soups or gumbo on the menu. I ordered the smoked prime rib po boy and was eager to satisfy my lunch hunger. When my sandwich arrived I was sad to see that it was only half a po boy but I was happy that it smelled great and tasted good. For the price I really expected a full size po boy and I wanted more of the sandwich as it was tasty. The service was friendly and attentive and they are mainly open for breakfast and lunch most days during the week and usually open on Thursday and Friday nights.

Tried this for a "date night" with my husband. We ordered their now "signature sandwich" the Guy Fieri sandwich -- he visited this spot on his show "Dives Diners and Drive Ins". Decor looks a little "rinky dinky" and has the feel of tables with cheap table cloths made of plastic -- not a problem if you just want yummy, deliciousness of a sandwich (not attractive for a high end date night). Definitely a must try for the meat lover. The location is "nestled" on the main stretch of Robert, but you can't miss them, they're directly under the water tower! Great for any sandwich lover looking for a quick snack.Enjoy!

We drove out of our way to visit this establishment because of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives fame. And boy are we glad that we did! It certainly fits the bill as a Dive, but the food was off the tracks!! The dining room is very small but we were easily seated. The server was engaging and quite attentive. She kept our drink glasses full. After reading Yelp reviews we ordered the Onion Rings as an appetizer. And what a site to behold!! They are huge and fresh cut/homemade. The onion rings are served with Roumelade that was perfectly spiced. It was steak night and one of our guests ordered ribeye that was tender enough to "cut with a fork". My husband ordered the Prime Rib and it was uniquely cooked by doing so on the smoker. For me the flavor was just a little too smoky for a delicious Rib but my husband loved it. It is indeed a unique method of preparation and I suspect delicious on their house specialty of Prime Rib Po'Boy. I had Tuna Steak perfectly prepared to Medium doneness with a side of the ooey-gooe-ist Mac-N-Cheese EVER!! When near Slidell again, we WiLL return.

Went a few extra miles off the path to stop here on our way out to a family vacation in Destin and glad we did! The onion rings, rib po-boy and Cuban were all fantastic and delicious! It was highlighted on diner, drive-ins and dives and it is definitely in the dives category but atmosphere was nice and waitresses were friendly!

Not bad, I went there for breakfast... better than an ihop or waffle house. But I need to go for their lunch menu

This place was amazing. Went with a group of 5. Everyone got some thing different. Everything was great. What should out the most was the Poormans eggs Benedict. It is nothing short of amazing. I would recommend this place.

Delicious. Super friendly. Cajun Benedict was good and I would order it again. Garden omelet was good too. Biscuit was fluffy and not greasy. Nice.

Found this place on our DDD app....drove out of our way on our trip to GA from TX to try it and glad we did. Had the smoked prime rib po-boy.....yum! It is recommended to eat it upside down to avoid it falling apart. One of the best I have ever had. Customer service was great and attentive!

I've visited this place often. I am a breakfast fan. They have great pancakes. The grits aren't watery, hash browns are some of the best around, and the biscuits are good. I've only ordered take-out. The staff seems friendly and I've seen people get seated right away. They are good about putting things like jelly, plastic ware, salt/pepper, ketchup, and napkins in the bag. A normal call in order take about 10-15 minutes.
(4)Tieu M.
The staff is friendly and very kind. You will walk in and be seated where you like. They will immediately come get your drink order. They give you decent time to review they small but detailed menu. The coffee isn't anything special but coffee. The food taste great and it's great Sunday comfort breakfast good.

(5)Patricia N.
We eat here an average of once a week. Service is always fantastic!!! My favorite is breakfast...fresh and homemade. They actually put butter on the whole piece of toast, not just in the middle like most places. Coffee is really good. Not a fancy place - which are usually the best :)
(5)Charlee G.
(5)Jack C.

Delicious. Super friendly. Cajun Benedict was good and I would order it again. Garden omelet was good too. Biscuit was fluffy and not greasy. Nice.

The slow cooked roast beef and ham po-boy is absolutely delicious
(4)Jeff C.
(4)Robert R.
Not bad, I went there for breakfast... better than an ihop or waffle house. But I need to go for their lunch menu
(3)Jeff R.
This place was amazing. Went with a group of 5. Everyone got some thing different. Everything was great. What should out the most was the Poormans eggs Benedict. It is nothing short of amazing. I would recommend this place.
(5)Miriam O.

(3)Tieu M.
The staff is friendly and very kind. You will walk in and be seated where you like. They will immediately come get your drink order. They give you decent time to review they small but detailed menu. The coffee isn't anything special but coffee. The food taste great and it's great Sunday comfort breakfast good.

(3)Ami D.
Best onion rings I've ever had. But you'll want to split those. Try the "Guy Special", that is one good sandwich!

(4)Wendy B.
Service was fast & friendly and breakfast was tasty. Eggs were perfect on the Benedict. Coffee was so so.
(4)S C.
Like the local feel of the place. Loved the fact that Guy Fieri from the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives had been here for a taping. Enjoyed seeing his name on the wall. Food was okay, would go back for a quick bite.

The burgers here are the bomb. A party in your mouth. Nomnnomnom

(5)Tiffany J.

Enjoyed the local flavor of this little place. Great food with a big following. Expect a line, good service and great food. Open for breakfast, brunch and lunch. A must visit...

(2)Lissete D.

Found this place on our DDD app....drove out of our way on our trip to GA from TX to try it and glad we did. Had the smoked prime rib po-boy.....yum! It is recommended to eat it upside down to avoid it falling apart. One of the best I have ever had. Customer service was great and attentive!
(5)Kelly T.
(2)Linda Y.
Had their meatloaf special and it was perfect. It comes with a slice of meatloaf the size of my forearm, cheesy potato gratin, spiced green beans, and a buttery biscuit all for $6.95. Will be back whenever I'm up in Slidell.
(4)Alexandra S.
