This place is a bit over-rated. Granted, this is a college town, so any sushi is good sushi to those folks. The actual sushi wasn't bad. It could have used a little more flavor (and I got a fancy roll, all dipped and fried and whatnot). But it was certainly on the better end of the sushi spectrum. I felt really pushed by our server. It was myself and two of my friends for lunch, and there was another couple sitting at the Hibachi bar with us. I had not yet deciphered the sushi menu due to inadequate lighting, and she came by three times in a 5 minute span to ask if I was ready. Finally, I just threw a dart and picked a roll. As I said, the lighting was dim; it was almost impossible to read the menu. I can't say anything for the Hibachi part, but my friend seemed to enjoy it well enough. Comparable to Shogun or Kobe's, but not nearly as good and with as high of a price tag.

Good food. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Lived in Grambling/Ruston area for 4 years. There are only 2 sushi places. This place is average in any other major city but in Ruston its decent. On a number of occasions We've had bad service. The manager is unprofessional and knows little about customer service. Its too bad the staff ruin the experience because the hibachi food is good. The sushi is ehhhh.

There are two places to pick from for quality sushi in Ruston: Ronin or Raw. I had been a frequent visitor of Raw for special occasions and wanted to try Ronin out for a more casual dinner date with a friend. How is Ronin special? They have hibachi, and it is very tasty. For a measly $10 you can get the vegetable hibachi which includes a full plate of stir-fried veggies and fried rice. You also get a ginger salad, a miso soup, and two shrimp. The hibachi plates come with two sauces: one is a pale yellow-orange and the other is like a ginger-teriyaki glaze. They both were delicious and I poured each on half of the plate. I will definitely, defiitely be getting this next time too. It was a huge portion and I made sure to eat it all :) As for the other items, they have plenty of sushi. I got one roll to go for the hubby and it was kind of pricey and kind of small in size so I don't know if I'd get that one again. However, I do recommend the avocado salad ($4 I think) for a big salad covered in avocado and delicious miso vinagrette. Ronin is more trendy than Raw, which is kind of slightly more traditional. I like both and think they both give something when looking for sushi. I will definitely be back to Ronin, the food was top notch.

I have dined at Ronin multiple times and at one point went about once a month with my family of four. However, the last 3 times I went, the service was absolutely horrible. In two different instances, groups who came in after us were seated before us. Ronin makes a HUGE deal about having your ENTIRE party there before they will put you on the list, etc. However, after waiting for approximately 45 minutes (on two different occasions) people who came in the door were seated within 10 minutes while we continued to wait. The last instance at Ronin, I called in a to go order. It was about 4:50 and they don't open until 5. They told me they could take my order and wouldn't start cooking until 5. It would be ready by 5:30. I showed up a little after 5:30 and paid for my food. I was told they were finishing an entree and would have it right out. After waiting 15 minutes, I was told that there was a mistake and they were just now starting the order. Finally at 6:15 it was ready. (mind you the ice cream in the car for dessert was ruined) When I got home part of my order (no shrimp with the steak and shrimp) was missing. I called and asked to speak to a manager. I heard the person answering the phone say "I think it's the girl from earlier. She's mad". The manager asked if I would come back and pick it up to which I replied no. Then asked if I came often and said next time I was in they would give me free shrimp. ummmm...not free....I just paid for it. The manager was rude and the people answering the phone should learn to be quiet or click the hold button. I haven't been back since and refuse when my kids ask for Ronin.

Ronin is an insane ripoff. It exists for two reasons: to serve overpriced sushi to Southerners who don't know any better; to sucker people in with hibachi grills, because apparently what passes for good food in Ruston is not "Does this taste good and fresh?" but "Was this served to me by a clown school dropout?" We were craving something Chinese-ish (and may the Lord have mercy on your soul if you go to a Chinese buffet in Ruston), so we opted for the regular kitchen menu-- no Bubba sushi, no clown antics. What a terrible mistake. These cretins have the nerve to charge $14 for a plate of plain grilled chicken covered in from-a-bottle teriyaki sauce, a dish of plain white rice (the server was very confused when I asked for brown), and two vegetables-- not, like, two kinds of vegetables, but literally two vegetables: one piece of broccoli and one piece of asparagus. The teriyaki salmon dish was identical, only with overcooked salmon and a $17 price tag. How does this place survive, especially with Raw in town?

Best show in town. Ronin has mackerel, Raw does not. Game over. But that's not all folks. Raw's menu suffers from price inflation, perhaps in keeping with the Vegas/Scottsdale/Santa Monica theme. Raw made me a salmon skin handroll even though it wasn't on the menu. Swell. The result was underwhelming, tepid strips of scruffy fish ends self-consciously hidden inside a soggy wrapper. Ronin's salmon skin handroll is on the menu and it comes out hot and crispy, full of oil and flavor, like the chicharrone taco of the sea. The wrapper popped immediately upon contact with my meat rippers. Eating Raw's fish carcass handroll made me feel like a vulture. Eating Ronin's made me feel just like a grizzly bear, the apex predator of my own glacial river. I did not notice the lighting.
