Great hospitality, welcomed at the door, my wife had the catfish she was pleased. I had the shrimp poboy. Try Pauls homemade tarter sauce while you are there its the best i have ever had.

Friendly, fast and delicious!! Stopped in for lunch on the way north from New Orleans and it was perfect. The Shrimp po-boy was fantastic, as were the okra & tomatoes and roast beef po-boy. Many guests were raving about the plate lunch which came with a small desert, all for about $8. Seriously, if you are headed North from New Orleans and need a quick, delicious meal in a friendly atmosphere, Paul's is the place to stop.

Right off 55 North, this place is great. Shrimp po boy was awesome and Best strawberry daiquiri around. Service was friendly and prompt. We were passing thru on our way to MS and found this gem!

Went with my boyfriend because we wanted to try something new and it seemed like a 'hidden gem' or something- plus the raving reviews. We get there for breakfast, and I don't know if they changed the way they do things but it was.. awful.. Just dreadful. I got a traditional breakfast. The hash brown was one of those oval things that McDonald's has for its breakfast. The bacon literally looked and tasted like microwaveable bacon (chewy and tasteless). The eggs were edible with lots of salt and pepper. I had to say something to our (awesome) waitress about the bacon- and she said her and her husband don't even eat it. I could tell she didn't want to rag on her place of employment, but she admitted to it being reheated. My boyfriend got biscuits and gravy, which he didn't like, but he said that it was more how they made it- not actually bad. His hash brown, eggs, bacon, etc were the same as mine. I'm giving this place 2 stars because our waitress was great, but man, this is 'Paul's old town cafe'! I was expecting a home cooked southern breakfast... But it was extremely disappointing :( On a lighter note, it's a cute place with a cozy atmosphere.. which worsened the disappointed..

This was a fabulous little gem to stumble on! Had the specials (shrimp gumbo and shrimp étouffée) that were delicious but enough can not be said about the cornbread! Oh my! I will dream about this for the rest of my life. Should have got a large order to go...

What a quaint little local Diner. The staff was insanely nice, helpful and fast. Food was delicious (omelets are huge!). Decor was nice "old world" type of feel. I really enjoyed this place.

Ok, first let me preface this by saying I go to Paul's every time I'm in the Ponchatoula/Hammond area. It's charming, friendly, and generally tasty. My usual choice is a poboy or sandwich with a Strawberry Daiquiri. My food is always very good. However, today my husband and I both got the specials- him red beans and rice and the roast beef and rice with gravy for me. Our food came out within a minute (yeah specials!) and we got to eating. My husband said his was good, not great, and my roast beef was disgusting. I mean bad. It was flavorless and tough as nails. The rice was ok, a little undercooked for my taste. I just sat there with my full plate and when the waitress came to bring our dessert (chocolate pudding, meh), she didn't ask about why I had a full plate I wanted taken away. To be fair, the place was the most crowded I've ever seen it, and she was young and maybe scared to ask. I would definitely go back, because every other time, it's been delicious. I'll just avoid the specials at all cost.

Great simple mom and pop breakfast joint! Huge ass biscuits! Friendly staff, quick service

Paul's Cafe was packed at noon on Sunday so we sat at the counter which we love to do. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. Paul stopped by a couple of times to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. Great customer service. I had the red beans, rice, and sausage and split a bowl of gumbo with partner. Partner had the beef and gravy over rice. Everything hit the spot. One of the better meals on the road. Asked about the daily specials and already planning to go back Tuesday for the fried chicken. Local, casual, friendly, satisfying. What's not to like?

Stopped by this little café on our way back from New Orleans. All I can say is this is one of the best café's we have stopped at. Not only was the food amazing, the service was tops!!! My bf had the roast beef po boy and I had a cheese burger. His sandwich was HUGE! My burger was amazing! A typical diner type burger. The friends and onion rings were so good as well. The prices are very good! If you are ever passing through this area it is definitely worth the extra time to stop and eat there versus going through a drive thru.

Always consistently good food and friendly service! One of my favorite small town diners!!

Stopped in Paul's cafe after leaving New Orleans and so glad we did. Best service, such friendly ladies! And the food was delicious. Nice quaint little cafe. Loved cafe and the cute little town!

Stopped in for lunch while antiquing in town. This place is one of those places you need to try if you're in town. I had the catfish po-boy which was crispy and full of flavor. My husband had the catfish & shrimp combo plate he asked for the fish to be cut tint thin strips and they were more than happy to do that for him. The owner stopped by the table as we were finishing lunch and chatted with us for quite some time. We would definitely be back.

My wife and I drove to Ponchatula, from New Orleans, to go to some antiques shops. We stopped in for lunch and were very surprised. This is a famous location. They stood up for their faith and values to the ACLU! I applaud that. The ownwe and his entire staff were very friendly. I had the shrimp poorboy and it was very good.

Good stuff at a decent price. Nice little small town cafe. This place can get packed to the rafters on the weekends. Apparently they have the best strawberry daquiri in teh area. I can't comment on that as daqurirs are not my choice of drink. Typical southern Louisiana food served here. I haven't had anything that I did not like.

We stopped in here for lunch on a sunday and we were greeted with very friendly service. This small town cafe is worth the stop if you are in the area.
(5)Katherine E.
Wonderful "pit stop" while on the road! Only about 10 min off I-10 and well worth it. Everything you expect from a southern diner; awesome down-home cooking and genuine friendly and attentive service for a very low price. Also, walk across the street and take a look at the pet alligator!

Traveling around Louisiana we stumbled apon gold Paul's Cafe. Tucked into a small town called Ponchatoula, Paul's was one of those places portly Australians only read about in books. Paul was there, tying kids shoes and just being tops. The food was traditional american with a southern style and was beautiful. For about $7 I got salad, a main and desert i bought a tshirt cause it was such a great place. oh and there is a gator outside the restaurant too... worth it, just go...
(5)Cork C.
The shrimp po'boy was delicious and the crinkle cut fries were done just right.

Paul's great old time place to meet for good food, fun and fellowship. If you love Alabama ask if V. E. is there. Like LSU ask for Frank or anyone else. PAul is the owner. He has most of his help from family. Mostly his daughters. Becky runs the place. So ask for her. The food is great!
(5)Loren B.
Enjoyed breakfast. Greeted by Paul as we entered. Great small home town cafe with lots of friendly conversation. Ask Paul about family... He has plenty. Would definitely recommend to others.
(5)GdayLester S.
Paul's makes the BEST homemade strawberry dacquiris from real strawberries, not from a flavored mix. You can pay an upcharge for an extra shot of rum. An interesting side note for visitors not from around this area, you can get alcoholic beverages "to go", and no need to order any food at all. We always get the large that comes in a tall plastic, jug-like container with a super size straw. Super YUMM! The food is good with typical southern style breakfast, lunch is good as well and often features jambalaya, red beans and rice, etoufee, etc. Decent prices on the food. The restaurant is very family friendly. We love Paul's and always stop during our trek to New Orleans.
