Beautiful setting & pleasant, efficient baristas. Great pioneering effort for downtown. SARAH'S presence remains in the building. Steve.

Awesome iced latte. So smooth. Place is cool with the vault as well. We were just passing by and used Yelp to find it. Turns out it's a real find. Great coffee!

Remember the old west? You know, when America had little brick towns out in the middle of no where? That's kind of how I feel when I'm in Opelousas. But there's lots of crawfish and boudin, and very little rolling tumbleweed. The downtown area is really quaint, though its obviously not a EDM dropping scene. When you sit in this little cafe, you are actually sitting in an old jailhouse. Cool part is, you can actually enjoy a book while sitting in an oldschool cell. All the while, you get a beautiful view of the old courthouse/municipal building for the city and parish. There is plenty of seating upstairs, too. Very clean and wide open, it is decorated with many funky trinkets and oddities from a variety of eras. I really enjoy their mixed espresso drinks, but they also have some good sandwiches. Its a nice little spot off the beaten path, and a very hip, city vibe for being in such a small town out in the country. I bet some people don't think this is a country, because it really isn't, its just a small town, but nestled far enough away from the lights of the big city. Lastly, there is a 50% discount offer when checking in here on yelp, which is only part of the reason I've come back. I've been here half a dozen times, and still really enjoy it.

I stopped here on Monday while traveling between Lafayette and Opelousas for work. I had a few hours to kill I between assignments so I decided to give this coffee shop a try rather than staying at the Lafayette Starbucks. I kind of regret that decision. When I walked in I was checking out the inside as I walked toward the counter where two baristas were. One was college-age or so and was very sweet. The other was by far the rudest barista I've ever encountered. I don't even know to explain it. I've had rude baristas before that didn't phase me much. This one really did and tainted my entire experience. Ordering, asking for cream for the tea, and asking for the wifi password were met with responses seriously teetering on hostile. And before you ask, I did tip! Other than this bizarre experience, the shop itself was quite pleasant and a great place to hang out or get some work done, as it seemed there were two different rooms for just that. I think if it had just been the younger barista this may have been a five-star experience. Mine was a one-star experience unfortunately, so I'm averaging it to three for the overall review. I think it will be a long time before I'd think about coming back.

Great little full-service coffee shop on the SE corner of the Opelousas Courthouse Square. Try a praline latte for a southern treat. They are located in a historic bank building, and the interior is awesome. They even have a secluded seating area in the old vault.

Driving from Baton Rouge to Dallas - found this little gem along the way. Pulled up on a rainy, Sunday morning. The young man working the counter was so friendly and warm. He was helpful in suggesting drinks that even impressed my coffee-connoisseur husband. I really wanted a latte and ham and cheese croissant. While I knew this would be hard to find, Java Square did not disappoint! In addition to the wonderful ambience, the food was wonderful. I wish Dallas had a coffee shop with a vault in it! Such a cool, small shop.

This is a little gem I found walking around downtown Opelousas that I plan on frequenting during my stay here. It just opened a few days ago and so far they are doing a great job! The building was previously used as a bank, and you can tell by the bank vault directly across from the entrance. The bank vault is now a little serenity or reading room with comfortable furniture and cool coffee-related decorations. If you're a Twilight Zone fan like I am and you've ever wanted to feel like Burgess Meredith in the episode "Time Enough At Last", this is the place to do it! The coffee was quite delicious and affordable. I didn't try any of the food but plan on doing so on my next visit. The staff is very friendly and the owner's kids were hanging out too giving it a fun, family friendly vibe. The shop has free wifi so I plan on going back to make the cafe my study spot, especially because it has really great lighting. I think Java Square is a great addition to downtown and an interesting repurposing of space. I'm wishing this place much success!

Great service, good coffee & a really good roast beef sandwich. You can sit and enjoy the music with good company, or enjoy the free WI-FI. It is a great place to hang out. They also have a variety of muffins and other light lunch type foods. They will even press the sandwiches for you, if you prefer a warm sandwich. Again the roast beef sandwich I highly recommend.

I was disappointed! Had heard good things but tried it for first time today. Coffee was not good. I didn't like the frappe I had and my kids each had different flavors and did not enjoy theirs. We also tried pastries. They were cold and server didn't offer to warm them for us. Sandwiches were not fresh and very small selection of sandwiches and pastries to chose from. Price was high considering the quality of coffee and food. Would not recommend

What a delight! Great mocha - dark, complex blend of chocolate and coffee, not some sicky-sweet cup of cocoa. Great atmosphere, too, and a bathroom that's actually wheelchair accessible in a charming old Louisiana building. Great barista. Just sorry I don't live here!

Best coffee I've had since moving to Louisiana. I stop by this place every morning before work. Delicious coffee and espresso! As Gabby says, such a cute little bank turned cafe. I will spend many afternoons studying in this one. Wish they were open later!

Heard of this place opening so decided to visit. They are quite a promising location and I would easily give them 5 stars if it was based just on interior design, its quite aesthetically and the wifi is a major plus. I must deduct two starts because the barista that served me seemed very unknowledgeable and was quite rude; also the pricing was around 5.50 for a 12 oz latte, which compared to competitors are quite steep. The coffee I'd give 6 out of 10. Overall though, I will be re visiting as they seem to have great promise.
