AHHHH! Cheese. I love cheese. The big cheezy offers much more than just a grilled cheese sandwich. All of their sandwiches have a buttery, crispy, perfectly toasted bread, with delicious and warm inside. I tried the craw gator - yum. My roommate had the BLT cheese one I forget the exact name. She loved hers. Fries don't come with the sandwich but two people can share one order. I got the tomato basil dipper and that was yummy too. This is where you go for your cheat meal, because it's definitely artery clogging deliciousness. From the front of the building, park on the left side, not the right side. Their parking is minimal.

Place would have been so legit if not for the rude host/cashier. I ordered the Flying Dutchman, the Mac n cheezy, waffle fries, and an 8 oz tomato basil soup. Everything was delicious except my brother and I noticed that our Flying Dutchman was lacking enough cheese. Considering this is a grilled cheese place, I would assume that my sandwich would be oozing cheese. It wasn't. I go to the register and ask if they would add more cheese. The cashier got defensive so quickly. "Well, that's how we normally make it. We add a slice to each side." I don't care how you normally make it, I just asked for more cheese because I felt it wasn't enough. That's all. She proceeds to try to guilt trip me by telling me that they would have to make me an entirely new sandwich. I tell her it's fine, don't worry about it. Because it was fine. I just didn't like the attitude. If I hadn't already tipped, she would have gotten next to nothing. TLDR; Place is good. Try the food. Avoid rude host.

I think I came in with expectations that were too high. I came for a Sunday night dinner with my fiancé. He ordered the Flying Dutchman with a side of Mac and cheese. I ordered the crazy old goat with a side of Tomato soup. We shared the sandwiches and ate our own sides. The ingredients of the Dutchman were good, but they didn't come together so great. The bread, white bread, got very smushy and greasy in the cooking process. I think it would be much better on multigrain bread! The crazy old goat had a bit too much pepper jelly, but the bread was perfect. The Mac and the soup were great. And the service was quick and friendly. I would def come back and try again, maybe this time creating my own sandwich.

I was looking for a decently priced meal for lunch today and discovered this wonderful joint. Always been a fan of grilled cheese sandwiches and this place does it right! Good atmosphere, friendly staff and great recommendations for a sandwich. I ordered the B.E.T it had the right amount of everything and the egg wasn't over cooked which is difficult to accomplish when putting it between 2 hot slices of bread and melted cheese. I will definitely return again and bring some friends.

Not to sound cheezy, but this really is the perfect lunch spot! The vast array of gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches rock! The waffle fries are amazing, and the service is great! I had the ol' goat...amazing! My guest created her own... Gouda & bacon. Loved it! Nothing more to add to the earlier spot-on reviews (thanks yelpers)! Just go, won't ya?!?

This place was really good. It's in kind of a weird location, near the prison and all the bail bond stores, but probably worth driving over here for. I ordered the Crazy Old Goat. It came on multigrain bread with goat cheese, Monterrey jack, chewy bacon, peppers, and delicious pepper jelly. It was really good; the cheese complimented everything nicely rather than overpowering it. The pepper jelly had a really nice kick to it and they weren't skimpy with the sauce either. I'd definitely come back if I was anywhere nearby. Might even make a special trip out here.

Allow me to add to the pile of praise for this lovely establishment. As soon as I heard that a fancy grilled cheese restaurant was opening in New Orleans, I was immediately on board. As soon as I got as taste of the deliciousness that is The Big Cheezy, I knew that this would have to be my 1100th review. It took me forever to get here and when I finally did it was on a Thursday at about 7. I was thrilled that there was no one else here, so we were able to order quickly with zero wait. I had looked over the menu before I came, so I knew exactly what I wanted. The Flying Dutchman was in my future. With ingredients like gouda, turkey and bacon, it seemed like a no brainer. My dining companion wasn't so sure, but after a few minutes he decided to get the Crazy Old Goat, which was packed with goat cheese, monterey jack, bacon, grilled peppers and red pepper jelly. That sounded pretty amazing as well. We also got some waffle fries to munch on the side. Because we are smart, we decided that we would split our sandwiches so we both got to taste both. We sat down and we didn't have to wait long at all because there was literally no one else in the place. As soon as the sandwiches came out I was SO excited. Gooey cheese was oozing our of the sides of both of these sandwiches. I could tell that the bread had been buttered (the only way to do it) and the sandwiches looked simple but delicious. First I bit into my Flying Dutchman. There was so much cheese on this thing and it was melted perfectly. The cheese mixed with the turkey and the bacon to create and amazing and delectable experience. After I finished my half, I couldn't wait to switch. The Crazy Old Goat was so different! I loved how the cheese and the bacon made for a savory experience, the peppers added a little kick and the red pepper jelly added a bit of spicy sweetness. There was a lot happening on this thing and I loved every bit of it. Both sandwiches that I tried were incredible and I can't wait to go back and try some more of The Big Cheezy menu. I would definitely suggest going later in the day, if you are like me and have no time for a line.

If you like grilled cheese - and aren't worried about a strange parking lot - you NEED TO EAT HERE! I came here with my co-worker and we perused the menu before coming here and decided that we wanted to split the Mac n' Cheezy and the Crazy Old Goat. Since our eyes were WAY bigger than our stomach we opted to get The Last Strawberry -- a Big Cheezy Beignet! First - my choice Mac n' Cheezy - was delicious. You could tell that the Mac n' Cheese was made with care. It tasted like something my mom would have made. This sandwich is extremely rich, and I'm not sure if anyone could eat a whole one by his or herself. There also appeared to have extra cheese and bacon on this delicious grilled cheese. Next - Crazy Old Goat - was the perfect compliment to the Mac n' Cheezy. The Crazy Old Goat had goat cheese, and Monterey Jack on a multigran bread (healthy?) with MORE BACON, grilled peppers and red pepper jelly. The sweet taste of the red pepper Jelly and Goat Cheese made this lunch taste like a dessert! My coworker also ordered a dipper size of tomato basil and she said that the soup was creamy and looked like she enjoyed dipping both sandwiches in it! Finally we opted for The Last Strawberry to top off this lunch. After our sandwiches were completed, the staff members brought out our Beignets - something I didn't really expect. The dish had strawberries, nutella, marscapone all on top of a beignet with chocolate syrup. I plan on coming again and I'm hoping to try the Cheezy BET, Pig in a blanket, and Breezy next! Hopefully I will bring the fam here next!

If you would have told me years ago that as an adult I would be eating grilled cheese, I would not have believed you. If you would have told me that not only would I be eating grilled cheese, but that I'd be eating them in a grilled cheese restaurant, I would've fallen on the floor laughing like a hyena. Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm here to tell you that my old self was a dumb ass. Location - I was not too keen on the location before visiting. They do have a lot on the left side of the building which makes the location much more desirable. Street parking can be a pain, but if you come early enough,my on can get a spot in the lot. Atmosphere and Service - I love the atmosphere. The walls are colorful and adorned with super high resolution photos of their sandwiches. If your mouth isn't watering while you're waiting for your food there is something wrong with you. This is an order at the counter type of place. I don't particularly love that method, but it works here. All of the staff were friendly and personable. Food - if you are wondering how good a gourmet grilled cheese could be, listen closely : These sandwiches are incredibly good. I've tried three different kinds and my favorite has been the carwgator with the Flying Dutchmen a close second. Their fries are of the waffle variety and are as good as the sandwiches. In summary, if you haven't been to The Big Cheezy, get there as soon as possible. You can thank me later.

I came in close to 1pm, and made it to the beginning of the line, and man, was there a line. You order and pay at the counter, and seat yourself. The staff is friendly. The restaurant is neat and clean. I had the crawgater. The crawgater. Cheddar, pepperjack on sourdough with alligator and crawfish sausage, carmalized onions and grilled green peppers. Oh. My. Goodness. It was freaking delicious! I do plan on coming back and trying other variations, and fries, as just the sandwich might not be enough, and any way, it will be nice to have leftovers to take home. Great place!

As long as I can remember, since probably 4 or 5 years old, a grilled cheese sandwich has always been my favorite food. (At that young age I thought it was a GIRL cheese sandwich and was made especially for me!) The folks at The Big Cheezy have taken my favorite food item and elevated it to an art form which they have perfected. Situated in Mid-City near N. Broad and Tulane Ave. catty-cornered from the criminal court building, they have a small parking lot on the left side of the building, but I found it super easy to park across the street and walk over. There were 3 in my party that evening, we all ordered different things and ALL of us were very impressed with the flavors, textures and perfectly crisp execution of the grilled buttered bread and the melted cheese and other delicious ingredients held within. We tried the tomato basil soup, the bacon topped macaroni & cheese, a few of the pre-designed sandwiches and a build-your-own. EVERYthing we ordered was delicious. EVERY.THING!!!! The gluten-free bread toasted perfectly, as did the sour dough. The soup was not the kind your momma used to make out of the can, it was rich, creamy and perfect for dipping a sandwich into as well as eating by itself. Can NOT wait to go back!!! I want to try everything on the menu. EVERYTHING!!! Other random bonuses: they have free WiFi, outdoor seating, a large table in the second dining room for groups larger than 4, sweet potato fries and HUGE salads. I NEED to go back again soon!!

When I first read world famous Yelper Charles H.'s review for this place I knew I had to try it. A resturant specilizing in (my favorite) grilled cheese sandwiches and a a clever name to boot? Count me in. I got my ass in gear and headed here with a few other world famous Yelpers. So glad I did! The menu is not super simple but completely mouthwatering. I would have had a hard time deciding what to order had I not stalked the online menu for days before I came. I knew I had to try the Flying Dutchman...Gouda cheese on white with turkey, bacon and honey mustard. Oh yeah. They went there and I was happy to go with them. This sandwich was bursting with flavor and I polished off the entire thing. (Unusual for me...I'm normally the girl who always has leftovers for later). The waffle fries were crisp and perfectly seasoned. For dessert we split the PB&B....sliced bananas, peanut butter, marscapone and chocolate syrup on a grilled beignet dusted with powdered sugar. Boom! Holy hell was that yummy! Thank you for coming to the Big Easy, Big Cheezy! I heart you and will definitely return!

THERE'S VOODOO IN THAT KITCHEN I whole heartedly concur with John T's 5-star observations. Yet I also have to add: that to press bacon mac & white-cheeses between buttery toasted sourdough that's generously stuffed with cheddar is pretty genius. ...and then there are those perfectly crispy waffle fries. CAVEAT ON CRINKLE FRIES!!! Ask for them fresh out of the frier. They get mushy yet dried up and pretty inedible if you don't. BLAME IT ON KICKBALL The concept began 6 years ago when one of the young local owners had an "ah ha": everyone loves grilled cheese why not a restaurant? Eventually the team and financing came about through their kickball league (a game best played buzzed although many players prefer to just DL near a beer chest). THIS AIN'T NO BOURGIE DAT DAWG...YET Don't let the creepy home page dissuade you. Although it touts a "gourmet experience" on "artisan breads" - BARF - Big Cheezy is a down-to-earth, high-energy counter service café with a superlatively executed menu. And the pricing is on point too: a 3/4LB sandwich is $7.75, if you split the big order of waffle fries ($2.50) and pass on the outrageously marked-up fountain drinks ($2), you are outta there for under $10. NB: breads are sourced locally from Laurel Street and Susan Spicer, all soups and sauces are made fresh in-house including their tasty dark-rouxed gumbo.

Cheese..the ultimate comfort food. It was a rainy Monday in my window-less cubicle so of course a hot gooey grilled cheese is just what we needed. We ordered the mac and cheese with bacon and the alligator sausage with green peppers and of course cheese. We also tried the waffle fries and the strawberry and nutella beignet. Everything was just as delicious and comforting as we hoped. FYI Park on the left side of the building and enter through the side door. There is only about 10 tables inside and 2 tables outside. Most people were ordering to go. On my next visit, we are going to order one salad and one sandwich which should be a nice balance for a lunch for 2.

I loveeee cheese and this was perfect. I had the juice (grilled sourdough, roast beef debris, cheddar, I subbed pepper jack for Monterey Jack). It's super good, the crust is buttery and crisp and the fillings are just enough. I also had the tomato soup which was good as well. All together with the drink my total was around $15. All in all, my inner child and cheese lover is pleased. I'll be back.

It's 93 degrees in New Orleans, you need a quick and delicious lunch in MidCity and Whole Foods is packed to the gills... Naturally, I head to a grilled cheese place? There's something about grilled cheese that makes me think about winter, so this wasn't really on my agenda for the next few months. I'm sure glad I didn't wait! It's a small, no-frills spot with pretty limited parking. (If you ever went to Liberty's Kitchen when it was in this location, you know what I mean!) You enter in the side door and the menu is right in front of you, or you can make your own sammy with the choices listed above the register. I got a goat cheese and red pepper jelly with bacon sandwich...aka HEAVEN. I never would have thought to put this combination together, so boy am I glad they thought of it for me! It came on perfectly toasted poppyseed bread. I didn't get any soup or fries, but they both looked delicious. The sandwich ran $7.75 and was nice and filling. If you get the "classic" it comes with a cup of tomato soup for the same price. I was in and out of the restaurant in about 25 minutes, which was pretty impressive! Not a grilled cheese fan? Looks like they had some pretty honkin' salads as well. I will def put this spot in the monthly lunch rotation!!

I've only tried the Mac and Cheesy with fries, so I can't vouch for the rest of the menu, but it's pretty yummy. I really expected the main focus to be the sandwich and the fries leave something to be desired, but I was wrong. Even the waffle fries were impressive. I would like to offer a tip. When you get your food, don't dive in right away. It's very tempting, but it turns into a mess. If you let it cool for a few minutes, the cheese hardens a little, and it's much more manageable to eat. It tastes just as good not piping hot. My only gripe with Big Cheezy is the parking. It's very limited and not "big car" friendly. Don't let it deter you from trying it though!

Good variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, so it is kind of a fun place. My fiancé and I shared a Flying Dutchman and mad goat. We thought they were both good, but not great. They were a bit on the greasy side, though the flavors were pretty good. We both agreed that they didn't come close to touching the Gruyere grilled cheese at St. James Cheese company. Now that is an awesome sandwich!

  • Mychelle S.

The food was excellent. Comfort food at its best Nothing better than a grilled cheese with hot roast beef and debris plus grilled pepper. Yum! They offer a variety of gourmet hot sandwiches plus soups. The prices was good for great food. Plenty of room to spread your legs too. I will be back!!!

So good Im writing the review on the free in-house wifi. I ordered the pigs in the blanket grilled cheese and it was excellent. Even better than the sandwich was the tomato basil soup which is probably the best in the city featuring fresh basil and a rich creamy texture. My lunch mate had the greek salad which was large and bountiful. The only knock is the sandwich and soup with a drink is $14 which is a little steep for lunch but if you choose to lose the drink it puts you back near the sweet spot. I am adding this place to my lunch rotation.

Grilled cheese and tomato soup are my fave! Always has been! So, naturally, I was thrilled to learn about this place opening close to home! We met there during lunch today. Its counter service and there was a small line, but we didn't mins because that gave us appropriate time to peruse the menu. I opted for the traditional grilled cheese on wheat. It came with cheddar and american cheeses, and I also added Gruyere. My beau ordered the BET (bacon, egg and tomato). We also got the waffle fries and tomato basil soup. Service was friendly and efficient and the space was exceptionally clean. In addition to our sandwiches, we also ordered a dessert called, "This Little Figgy." It was a sliced beignet that was toppednwith ham, honey, fig and mascarpone cheese. Goodness, that was the bee's knees!!!! All in all, a delightful experience and I already know what I'm getting next time! Highly recommended. Its a bit pricey (as I think we are accustomed to paying under $5 for grilled cheese - but this ain't your momma's grilled cheese! At first bite, you can taste the high quality of cheeses, bread and meat. Well worth the cost!!

  • Erika M.

This place is pretty delicious. There's a grilled cheese for everyone. Savory, sweet or the old stand by. The tomato soup is also delicious as are the waffle fries. Parking could be difficult but we were there early and got a space quick. It's very casual and you order then sit. Highly recommended.

The menu is overwhelming, so be prepared. The prices are reasonable if you order one of their specialty grilled cheezes but if you go the custom build route, the costs add up quickly. This will be one of the best grilled cheeses of your life. So be prepared for crispy bread, melty delicious cheeses, and other yummy delights. They offer an original grilled cheese and soup combo for about $8. The tomato basil soup is very good and I very much so enjoyed the gumbo. (Those two are the only soup options by the way. ) They also have dessert beignets. They are incredible! I dont care how full I am, I will always have room for dessert. Do not park on the right ride of the building. As the signs say, they tow, and they tow very quickly from what I understand. I am disappointed to say that this is not the same Big Cheezey that made an appearance a few years ago at some of the street food events. The owners of this place bought the name, but its not the same people.

  • Robert W.

Unfortunately, not so cheesy. Even though I ordered a sandwich with roast beef, I really expected to see some more cheese. 1 slice of cheddar and 1 slice pepper jack just does not cut it. On my grilled cheese I like to butter both sides of my bread so both outsides get a nice golden buttery taste and texture. Sorry this place is a miss.

What has once been a difficult and fruitless endeavor in New Orleans is now much easier. Those looking for a good grilled cheese sandwich don't need to look any further than The Big Cheezy. You can get some bread and cheese almost anywhere here. Just don't mistake that combination for a grilled cheese. There is only one way to get it prepared. You can add whatever you want to it but I prefer some simple classic combos which they allow me to easily do. Nice folks, good service. Can't ask for much more.

It's good, like, really good. I had to stop in after seeing Charles H. give this joint a five star review. I don't believe he hands those out very often so I had a bit of an eyebrow-raiser-moment when I read that as the case. The menu, at first, is quite a bit to consume, there's a lot going on with it. I went with the 'Mac & Cheezy' and an order of the waffle fries. After a brief wait, I took my to-go order back home and got to it. As far as portions are concerned, it all seemed fair. I was able to make that order out of two small meals. This stuff is super greasy so don't expect to be bouncing around in a healthy high after you're done, but what else is to be expected from a place with Cheezy in the name? The inside is a decent size, not huge, but there's also a few seating options out front where there are some umbrella-tables for enjoying those nice, Summer days without getting beat down by the sun. This place is actually the old Liberty's Kitchen location. The cashier, Samantha, was super friendly, very bubbly, positive vibe she had with everyone in the place. Be sure if you're parking, to park on the left side of the building because you may get towed for doing so on the right side. I'm definitely going back to try that turkey pesto, the pics look deliscious and it seems like the less greasy option. Well done.

I want to give this place five stars, but oy, I think they have a little tightening up to do before I can give that rating. The first time I came, I was so freaking excited for a hot greasy grilled cheese. My friends and I ordered and got a table outside to wait for our food. My food and one other friend's plate came out within 10 minutes or so, but our other two friends' plates didn't follow for another 20 or more minutes. After waiting so long, the initial plate receivers were left with cold, congealed, sad grilled cheeses. I suppose we could have just eaten them when we got them, but hey, we're polite! HOWEVER - this story has a happy ending. The waiter felt so bad about the wait that he gave us a $20 gift card. I was actually quite excited to give the place another shot and assumed it was a one-time fluke. We came back a few weeks later and things were much better, but I think the restaurant needs a little more time to get into a groove and pump out sandwiches a bit faster. The grilled cheeses were delicious upon our second visit, but they still have a few kinks to work out. I'll definitely go back and try more of what they have to offer soon!

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! We had the Spicy Pie (mozzarella, pepperoni, hot cherry peppers, and tomato basil sauce on sourdough), the Juice (cheddar, pepperjack, roast beef with debris, and grilled peppers on sourdough), a side of bacon mac n cheese, and some waffle fries. Everything was executed perfectly - from the seasoning on the fries to the gooeyness of the mac n cheese to the toast of the bread. The employee at the counter was super friendly and awesome, the food came out quickly, and the prices are super reasonable for the quality. We will definitely be back soon!

BLUF: My mission in life used to be to provide for my children; it is now to eat everything The Big Cheezy has to offer. I am lactose intolerant but it is worth it. (4 star food overall but 5 star draw, experience and originality) First off, I dont have children, but I still want to try everything here. (I really am lactose intolerant but I have pills for that). I love grilled cheese but really only had the standard grilled cheese. This place has a pretty diverse menu with specialty grilled cheeses with all kinds of different toppings. If you dont like their creations you can get creative and build your own which is an awesome option. I got The Juice which is roast beef debris and cheese and bell pepper. I forgot the kinds of cheeses on it but who cares, it was great. It was really really good. They give you a lot more roast beef than I would have thought which kind of overpowers the cheese but overall the sandwich was great. My lady got The Brie'zy which was brie with apples (maybe pears?) and carmalized onions and some other stuff. It was really good too and the polar opposite of the my meat sandwich. I tasted it and it was great. We got the sweet potato fries which were ok. Nothing special but I wasnt there for the sweet potato fries. That being said, we tried our friend's waffle fries and they were crazy good. We ended with the fig and blackberry begnits (sp?). They were good but I'd rather just get more sandwich. Too fancy for my taste. Hard to split so order your own. Plush sharing is stupid anyways (unless she makes you). You order at the counter but the lady at the front knows her stuff and is really friendly and helpful if you need it. There is so much to choose from that we used her a lot. She was great. Then go grab a seat inside or outside and they'll bring it out. They are pretty quick too. Atmosphere is simple and fun. Location of this place is up and coming. For the time being it is not the nicest part of town. I wouldnt hang out here at 1am alone but during their store hours it is more than fine. Soon this part of town will be much more developed and improved since mid city is developing (gentrifying) so fast. I will definitely be going back. Prices are spot on. Def not overcharging or undercharging. I thought the food was really really good but it is getting 5 stars from me because I want to keep going back and try everything else cuz it all looked so good. If I was never going to be going back I would give it 4 stars. Really a good place and cant wait to go back.

An absolutely delicious choice, maybe even good enough to cure a New Orleans style hangover. I went with a group of 7 people, and every single person loved their food. I ordered the Brie-zy, and it was wonderful. We finished the meal off with the amazing Nutella strawberry beignet. In addition to great food, this place also offers great service. The staff is very friendly. The restaurant is clean, with both indoor and outdoor seating. There's parking on the left side by the entrance. If you like cheese and you like happiness, I'd recommend this establishment.

So I got the grilled mac n cheezy and it's huge. But expertly crafted and not messy to eat at all. The combination of Mac n cheese with a grilled cheese is perfect. Add on alittle bacon and you find yourself with the best grilled cheese around. I seriously need to try each one my mind is blown. Love this place. And free wifi

Make sure you come here knowing you're likely to come out with a delicious heart attack. Service was great and prompt, while the food was to die for. I had an awful hard time to pick one of the delicious grilled cheeses they offer. Bacon Mac & Cheese is da bomb! I'll definitely be a repeat customer!

I went here this past Saturday. First the parking is awful. Second it was so warm in here and packed at 1pm. No place to sit. They were also filming for a TV show. It was very chaotic! I ordered the 4 cheese mac and cheese with bacon grilled cheese. Not sure what I was expecting, but it was way to heavy and I got so nauseated for 6 hours after. I will not be returning!

don't park next door! LOL this place is great. good good food, and a tiny parking lot. but the cheesy goodness is all I need to keep me returning, over and over. hot pepper jelly and cheese? oh yeah. I will be back to try ALL your sammiches YUM

Do yourself a favor, risk the clogged arteries and heart disease and forget about the calories. This place is awesome. Friendly staff, clean restaurant, outside seating and there is even a parking lot (that unless you really enjoy playing Tetris with vehicles I don't recommend parking in)!! I got the Crazy Old Goat and it was so delicious. I'm looking forward to another visit here.

A grilled cheese sandwich restaurant, how cool is that!? Problem....deciding which one to get! They make savory and sweet, every single one sounded amazing! One thing you have to add no matter what sandwich you decide on, a side of bacon mac and cheese! OMG so Freaken good!!! Very cool little restaurant! Bright, clean, new. Everything made fresh to order so takes about 15 minutes.

As I bit into the first waffle fry at Big Cheezy, it quickly became apparent that my life would never be the same. A simple waffle fry, golden, crispy, spiced to perfection was the snowball rolling down the mountain accumulating speed and mass, ultimately culminating in an avalanche of flavor. Then it was sandwich time. Crunchy and buttery sourdough enveloped beautifully viscous cheddar pepperjack, caramelized onions, green peppers, and zesty crawfish alligator sausage. The melted cheese just trickled over the crust of this masterpiece, bringing with it sweet little chunks of onion like magnificent sturgeon flowing in the cool waters of Saskatchewan rivers. The next few minutes were a blur of Dr. Pepper, sandwich, fries, and pure ecstasy. The owner came by to check how we were enjoying our meal and regaled us with humorous anecdotes, sporting a rapier wit. His charm was rivaled only by the staff's hospitality and genuine friendliness. We closed our meal out with a strawberry Nutella beignet. This creative take on the classic dessert was simply outstanding. Go to Big Cheezy. Go there now. They have great indoor and patio seating. There is parking on the entrance side of the restaurant. Be sure you do not park in the lot on the other side, they tow quickly. The signs are not a bluff. To sum it up, this place is really Gouda.

Loved the grilled cheese with the Mac n cheese inside! Also you have to get the tomato basil dipper because that really makes the meal. It's in a weird space in town and I wish they had more outdoor seating.

Grilled cheese with a twist. Definitely try the juice if you're a fan of roast beef and gravy. If not, try it anyways! You won't be disappointed. It was juicy and moist so expect to get your hands dirty ;) The crawgator is also pretty good and so was the turkey w/bacon. I would recommend getting the smallest size of dipping sauce because the sandwich was quite large and I only finished half of it. What a bummer . I would definitely come back again to try the desserts!!

I love the ham and cheese. I went to the restaurant after reading about it on Yelp and the food was great. The parking lot is confusing and so os the entrance, it is on the side of the building not in the front. I will have to come back.

If you love a good cheese coma then this is your place. Don't plan to do anything after eating here. You aren't going to go out for a night of heavy drinking. This is a strictly eating then going home and relaxing or to the movies. It's totally worth it! The big cheesy is great and so is the side of mac and cheese. My boyfriend got the one with roast beef and loved it. The fries were ehh. To be honest the sandwich is plenty and share a side of your dying for one.

Let me just say I found this place because of the perfectly placed ads on my FB page with the glorious pictures of my favorite things: meat, cheese, and bread! I was a tiny bit disappointed because my friend had come to the place before me and sent me a picture of "the juice" which was roast beef, cheese and of course, the key ingredient: GRAVY! The sandwich I got was dry as the Sahara compared to his but despite my expectations, when I bit into it, it sent me straight to heaven! I was so happy with the sandwich that I went ahead and tried one of the desserts "this little figgy." The fig preserves tasted delicious but again, I was expecting a different type of beignet so go into it with little expectations and definitely DONT look for a Cafe du Monde type of beignet. It's much more bready and not really sweet. It was okay. I may try another one before I make a decision about it. Overall though, I like the location (it's near my house), the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was in great condition. I'm going to go back..

Just went to the big cheezy on my lunch break service was great but the food came out kinda slow. Even tho we waited almost an hour the food was great! I will go back maybe not for lunch tho

Mac and cheese on a grilled cheese. Beyond perfection! So much deliciousness! The tomato basil soup is also delicious! Everyone at our table was silenced by the deliciousness! Do yourself a favor and stop by The Big Cheezy!

I got the big cheesy. The sandwich was really good and I went in with high hopes. The waffle fries were ok. My mission is to try every grilled cheese on the menu as it was a hard decision to pick the first time. Next time it'll have to be the Mac and cheese grilled cheese and a different side.

Thought this was a little hood shack talking about gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches but to my surprise it really was good. Wasn't a long wait, but when we walked in the cashier didn't say anything, then another team member said hello. We finally asked do we seat ourselves so she helped us out. Ordered the BLT salad, Turkey Presto Sandwich, and the Crazy Old Goat Sandwich both were really good very flavorful, loved the read pepper jelly on the crazy goat. Finished with The Last Strawberry which was a beignet split in half with strawberries, mascarpone cheese and chocolate drizzle. Not sure if the beignet was too hot that it melted the chocolate so I didn't really taste the mascarpone, and hardly any strawberries primarily could taste the chocolate which was not a ganache or premium chocolate more like a generic ice cream drizzle but it wasn't terrible. The sandwiches were good, the salad was a very large portion. Will go back for one of the sandwiches

What a great place. Relaxed environment, awesome service, and amazing food! I've had multiple sandwiches and soups and gumbo. No complaints on anything. Thanks guys! Great hangover cure or even just to pop in for lunch.

Overall, my sandwich was pretty good. I had the Old Goat (Monterey Jack cheese, goat cheese, bacon, pepper jelly and green peppers), which was tasty. My friend's bacon mac n cheese was really creamy and had a great texture. I also got the apple and brie beignet, which was not good and I ended up throwing away. No one at my table wanted to taste it! It wasn't sweet enough, and the brie really needed some sweetness to offset the "funkiness." I would go back, though. If I do, I would like to try the tomato soup.

5 thumbs up!!! Kids love the Original set with tomato basil soup, which is very appetizing. Had to get a second serve after the first went in 5 seconds. The Crawgator was great, slightly spicy and my favorite bit was the caramelised onions - just that bit of sweetness. We also had the Big Cheezy, triple stack... If you like cheese this is definitely the place for you!

This place has good eats. Its a shop that does new style grilled cheese sandwiches and deserts. I enjoyed it. We elected to build our on as opposed to going with the offered selections. The Black & Blue desert was pretty good. Also the Brie-licious is good.

An entire menu of delicious, generously stacked specialty grilled cheese sandwiches! I had the crazy goat. Amazing! Loved the contrast between the goat cheese, bacon and sweet/savory sauce. I also loved what I saw in the sandwiches my friends ordered - attention-demanding bread/cheese/meat (and meatless)/sauce combinations that make me want to come back to try each and every one. we're talking serious grilled cheese. Very cool that the owner is an uptown lad with jokes to boot. Parking on premise make this broad and tulane restaurant a convenient stop / escape from work wherever you are (took me 10 min from near lakeside mall to get there). Get you some big cheezy!!!

I had the goat cheese and bacon sandwich. The pepper jelly was amazing! I also had a bite of the triple decker sandwich. I felt that the harder cheeses like Ghouda did not have enough melt time. The tomato soup is awesome! !

So amazing! It's super affordable and you will want to take a long nap afterwards! Many choices for gourmet grilled cheeses (Mac and Cheesy, Hot sausage, numerous Cajun varieties). Dessert options available too! Come hungry, because everything here is so rich!

Perfect comfort food! I've had some of the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever created in this little place. Would love to have a beer alongside them, but not everyone can be perfect.

Looking for the grilled cheese of your dreams? Your beautiful queso soulmate? A sandwich so perfectly cheesy that you are willing to give your first born child to? This is it. Been stalking their yelp for a while but it wasn't til today I decided to grab a late lunch here. I got the Crazy Old Goat and was not disappointed. Food was on point and staff was kickass. Food came in about 5 mins. Great casual food joint. I'm making it my personal mission to try every grilled cheese sandwich

I wish I could give The Big Cheesy a 3.5. Nothing about our experience was explicitly negative, but after reading so many 5-star reviews, we were a bit disappointed. My girlfriend and I tried The Big Cheesy on a Wednesday night. Not busy at all in the place, only a couple tables taken. As soon as we walked in, the cashier/food runner greeted us. She was fantastic. Ran us through the menu, made recommendations, and generally made sure we would enjoy our experience. Service was definitely 5 stars. I ordered a Mac and Cheesy, while my girlfriend got the Spicy Pie. We also ordered a PB&B for dessert. Altogether, $25 after tip, a bit high for what it was. I enjoyed my sandwich quite a bit, and my girlfriend liked hers, although she said it wasn't as great as she expected it to be. I later tasted it and agreed, it was good, just nothing special. But the real trouble began when our dessert arrived. It was described as a beignet topped with peanut butter, bananas, mascarpone and chocolate. It cost $4.50. And it was the size of a 50¢ coin. When I read "beignet," and looked at the horribly out-of-proportion picture on the wall, I assumed the beignet would be the size of, say, a regular beignet from Café Du Monde or the like. This beignet was the smallest serving of food I have ever seen. The photo on the wall, which was obviously zoomed in and lacking perspective, made it appear to be regularly sized. It contained three thin banana slices (yes, we counted) as well as all of the aforementioned ingredients. It was very good, it was probably the best part of our meal. But it was gone in three bites. I've got no problem paying substantial money for quality food. And I'm certainly not dogging The Big Cheesy, as, like I said, we enjoyed our meal. But as someone who lives right around the block, a possible repeat customer, the value just isn't there. $25 for two people who didn't even order sides or a drink is far too much. If, for whatever reason, they lower their prices or increase the portion size of the dessert, I'll be back in a heartbeat. But for now, visits for me will be rare.

Being a huge cheese aficionado, I've been dying to dine at this new establishment. I met a friend for lunch this afternoon and found the place to be much much larger on the inside then originally anticipated. The space features 14 tables plus a lunch counter, and can approximately seat anywhere between 40 to 45 people. The setting is clean, and bright with lots of natural light. The menu offering gives the options for at least 12 different grilled cheese sandwiches varying from sweet to savory and you can add sweet potato fries, waffle fries or bacon macaroni and cheese as a side to any grilled cheese sandwich. You can also order dippers which are small servings of either the tomato basil soup or gumbo to dip your grill cheese in. You order and pay at the counter and your food is delivered to you. Outdoor dining is available as well. I'll "Brie" back as there are at least three more sandwiches I gotta have!

This was definite a delicious experience! While vacationing in the French Quarter, my boyfriend and I decided that we had to try out what sounded like an amazing Grilled Cheese restaurant. What a great decision! They have been open less than 2 weeks and they totally know what they are doing! You must take a look at their menu online. There grilled cheese sandwiches are totally different and completely off the hook. I had the"Crazy Old Goat" which had goat cheese, Monterey Jack, smoked bacon, grilled green peppers and red pepper jelly. OMG... What a delicious sandwich. My boyfriend enjoyed the "Breezy" which had Monterey jack and Brie cheeses, caramelized apples, cinnamon, & toasted pecans drizzled with honey. Both sandwiches were served on large slices of fresh multigrain bread. Dillon took our order. He was courteous and helpful sice it was difficult to make a decision. We will definitely be back the next time we are in New Orleans!

I came here with my sister and it was okay. I think I was a little too excited and so my expectations were high. I would definitely come again and try more things on the menu. I got the roast beef debris grilled cheese with muenster cheese. It was delicious, but a little salty. I feel like the gravy could have been salted less since it tastes like they use salted butter for grilling. I love waffle fries, but I wasn't a fan of the caked on seasonings that filled the ridges and holes, making it more like a potato seasoning patty, but that may have been a malfunction, because these pictures look nothing like my fries did. We got the blackberry beignet and it was a little too bitter and dry and didn't seem at all like a dessert. I'll be back soon to try more options and give it at least a couple more chances, though. The place really is charming and the employees are very nice.

I had seen really good reviews of the place on yelp and decided to pop in since it was practically down the street. The inside is nice, not too cramped, good music. Oh, and free wifi! The cashier was really quick and knowledgeable. I ordered the Big Cheezy to go and it was still hot when I got home. I'll definitely be back to try their other sandwiches and maybe that tomato soup.

Best Grilled cheese sandwich in the city! Reminds me of Melt in San Francisco but has many more toppings. Tomato soup was excellent. Bread and cheese was on point Would've liked a beer but was told that they do not yet have an alcohol license. Can't wait!

Not the healthiest meal but remember that it is New Orleans. And it certainly was tasty. The salad made me feel like I won't totally self destruct and the Old Goat sandwich was delicious--a little greasy but YUM. Give it a try. Very friendly and relaxed place.

Meh. It's grilled cheese. It didn't knock my socks off. Plus, they messed up my order twice and didn't handle that very well. There are better places to get a more satisfying sandwich in this city, so I don't plan on going back.

What do I want as a celebration meal? It's a real tough toss-up for me between a steak and a grilled cheese. This weekend I chose grilled cheese and got some friends together to try out The Big Cheesy. Great idea on my part! The only con about this place is the parking. It's limited and kind of tough for some people apparently. As I was pulling in, a girl was leaving and ran into the building! Whoops. Anyway, I met my friends and we went inside. I had already studied the menu and knew I was going with the Crazy Old Goat and some waffle fries. (Side note: I had an extra special bonus of some other friends leaving me a bottle of celebratory bourbon with the super sweet girl behind the counter who also congratulated me and laughed about my great friends who had eaten there earlier.) So, we grabbed the bourbon, the beer we brought (it's BYOB if you haven't gotten that part yet), and picked a table outside. Soon enough, our food came out and everyone started chowing down. I got a thumbs up on all the sandwiches and an OK on the mac and cheese. My sandwich was delicious! You get a tangy salty thing from the goat cheese and bacon then you're hit with a little sweetness from the pepper jelly. I also appreciated the fact that the bread was thin enough for you to enjoy the inner workings of your sandwich. So good! The waffle fries were good, crispy with a little spice to them, but I wouldn't need to get them next time as I was good with just the sandwich. The prices were what I would pay at any other sandwich shop and I was completely satisfied with my meal. Overall, it was a great celebration of booze and cheesy goodness. I have a feeling I will be celebrating lots of life's little victories here.

I went this afternoon with my friend and her three year old daughter. The girl at the counter was very accommodating and fulfilled the little girl's request for "just cheese". She was given her own tray with cheese slices! So cool! I had the big cheesy and it was SO good! I also had mac n cheese on the side and although it was delicious, I was too full to eat it. I will be going back to try one of their other sandwiches and the salads looked very good, too! The off street parking makes it easy to get in and out with out a lot of drama. Try it! You will love it!!!

So exicted to discover this place! Just 2 blocks from my house, it is incredibly dangerous for me to have food this good so close. I had The Juicy... and it lived up to its name. Hubby had the crawfish and alligator sausage, and said it was incredible. We weren't crazy about the bacon mac-n-cheese... it was fine, just not phenomenal. But the waffle fries... oh, waffle fries. We'll be back soon to try more of the menu, as everything on it looked great. Can't wait!

First time here. I had the goat and bacon sandwich, good quality bread and the combination of bacon, goat cheese, pepper jelly worked very well. It had a nice combo of salty and sweet. I enjoyed the bacon mac and cheese, even had the truffle oil in the bottom. I would give this place five stars, but the black and blue beignet was not very good. The blue cheese in it just doesnt work. I told Josh the owner that I think just mascarpone would work well. Looking forward to my second visit as I am very impressed.

This place is killer. I mean really I'm a Grilled Cheese fan, but these guys are like ninjas. What Killer Poboys did for poboys, and Dat Dog did for hot dogs these guys are doing for Grilled Cheese. We went in Saturday night and it was busy but not crowded. You order at the counter and they bring your sandwiches out very quickly, probably 5 minutes or less. i ordered "The Juice" which is roast beef and cheese and my SO tried "The Cheezy BET" with bacon and egg. Both were stunning in simplicity and flavor. There were several other sandwiches on the menu that I thought were worth a try and the beignets looked delicious as well. The only complaint I had was that the place is not in my neighborhood and I told one of the owners that, and he said cryptically that they were "working on that". So if you haven't tried it yet. Go Now!

First I was afraid, I was petrified, kept thinking a grilled cheese was perfect with only cheese inside, but then i tried the Crawgator and a little of The Don, and I grew strong and I learned how I was so wrong!! Best grilled cheese I've had, by far. Forget those other "gourmet grilled cheese" sandwiches, this is the truth. Kudos to eating a delicious, affordable sandwich. I'll be back!

FANTASTIC. Most delicious place ever, and great service. Apparently the other staff members had called off sick so one man was running the whole show and they were busy. He was doing great though! Delicious Tomato Basil soup and really fun cheesey combos. I highly recommend.

One of the best grill cheese sandwiches I have ever had. The owner Josh made my first time there rememberable. I built my own sandwich and add roast beef debris AMAZING!!! You also have to order the last strawberry the best 4 bites ever. I will definitely be back here again for another AMAZING grill cheese sandwich!

Not a big grilled cheese fan but my girlfriend and I went yesterday and I almost slapped her, it was that good. Of course I wouldn't, but just to give you an idea. The staff was friendly, love the fact that a dipper option of gumbo or tomato soup is offered for 1.50, and the dessert beignets are fabulous. Go here or check yourself into a mental ward. Only disappointment is the location. Thank you for your time.

This place is just simply great! I am in the business and very picky and hard to please. Most places leave me shrugging saying "ehh it was ok." Not so here. Prices are excellent and portions are perfect. My wife chose the spot after hearing some people talk about it. We ordered 3 sandwiches 3 sides and 4 drinks. All for $40.. whaaaaaaat.... I know right. The staff is so nice and pleasant. Dining area was clean and tidy. Now, to the food. There is a grilled bacon mac n cheese grilled cheese sandwich. The mac was stuff so full it was literally exploding out. Please refrain from dipping said sandwich in their tomato basil soup, as it may lead to uttering incoherent phrases of awe while having a mouth-gasm. The Old Goat was perfect. Smokey bacon, tangy goat cheese, sweet spread and bell peppers. Everything was stupid good. Simple concept, good recipes. Please check this place out. I hope they expand their locations and spread their sandwich love all throughout the world. Great job!

  • Pat G.

While you can't go wrong with a combo of melted cheese and bacon, my Flying Dutchman wasn't toasted evenly and, more important, for long enough, which mean bread was beige and soft instead of brown and crisp. It was still good, but if your specialty is grilled cheese, you've gotta get the technique down.

    (3)
  • David B.

I ordered the BET which was awesome! And love the refill drinks and sides! My only let down was it took 30 minutes to get my grub. If your in a hurry, or on lunch break from the CBD, this probably isn't the place for you unless you call in your order in. I think they need a couple more cheesers if they are going to have volume like that. Last, the parking lot is WAY TO SMALL, so park on the street unless you have a Jeep Wrangler or Smart Car. Everything else was great!

    (4)
  • Joshua B.

Best grilled cheese I've had! Delicious. I had the crazy old goat sandwich, and the pepper jelly was incredible. Not to mention the bacon, and most of all the bread was absolutely delicious. Next time I'm gonna have to try the tomato basil soup, although the chicken and sausage gumbo was pretty tasty. Josh, one of the employees was extremely nice. I will definitely be back.

  • Daniel F.

Awesome stuff! This place is really cool and cozy. They have parking and small outdoor seating. The indoor seating is relaxing and they have appetizing photos on the walls of their sandwiches. Order the Mac & Cheezy. It's a heart attack on bread, but you'll be thankful for going out like a champ. Also the girl at the cashier today was very sweet and helpful. Kudos to her.

Absolutely delish! The big cheesy is great with the sweet Hawaiian bread & super cheesiness! The Mac n cheezy is to die for!!!!! Even my picky kid was diggin on the food! Awesome!!

Even if you're like me and one of those unfortunate souls whose stomach rejects dairy, the chicken & 2 sausage gumbo and french fries are excellent here. The meat is tender and the roux is the right consistency, not too thick nor too watery with the right amount of kick to it.

The Crazy Old Goat sandwich was very good. Parking is a little tight and small restaurant. Must go but, get there early for a parking spot and table. Overall give it a whirl. We have been twice.

OMG GOOD!!! I built my own with two cheeses, turkey and ham. It was great! That, along with a bottled water and Waffle Fries, did I mention they have waffle fries???, was $14. A bit high, but the quality was there. I can't wait to share this gem with the rest of the family
