So after recommendations from some of Andrew's work friends, we decided to hit up The Bean Gallery and check out what all the fuss was about. The place itself is a very relaxed coffee house with plenty of seating for all your study needs with both indoor and outdoor seating available. They also offer free wifi with the password up on one of the chalkboards when you enter. Atmospherically, it's brilliant! The server seemed out of it though..talked quietly and well, got my order wrong due to it. I ordered an iced chai latter but I received a iced soy latte..not sure how that got mixed up but what ever, it was okay. I would've preferred my actual order but this one wasn't particularly terrible by no means. I also ordered a slice of the Lemon Berry Mascarpone cake. This was delicious! Light and fluffy and flavoured perfectly. I also took a few bites of Andrew's Mocha Cake and it was just as delightful. Anyways, a pretty cool study spot with a relaxed atmosphere with delicious treats to keep you going. Recommended!

3.75/5 new haunt - open to 12! oh man. i'm starting to feel like i'm cheating here... it started with late night availability. at first it was just an iced coffee. super casual, everyone does it. then it became a frozen coffee. then a little iced tea on the side, double duty. then a panini, which the prosciutto and asparagus seems like a great value. i may or may not be eating one now. then there was lemon blueberry cake, and then a german chocolate cake iced latte...i don't know what to say. never had an issue finding a seat with a nearby outlet to stay powered up even when it's bustling. for when i know i need to do a bit of work, this is becoming an easy, accessible go-to that actually has decent drinks and food. and it's the kind of place that is making me think about moving to the neighborhood.

This is one of my neighborhood locally owned coffee shops! I love their service, hot chocolate and desserts. Some of my favorite desserts are their huge cookies (the size of a hockey puck), their delicious almond croissant with almond filling, and their chocolate croissant. One of these days I will try one of their slices of cakes! It's a small coffeeshop with outdoor seating which is nice on a beautiful day. On the inside it has comfortable leather chairs and a large table that is reserved on Wednesday evenings for a knitting group. It's really cozy and the main problem is that you've gotta get lucky trying to get a seat in the weekend. I think since his is one of the few coffeeshops in the neighborhood that is open late then it gets packed on the weekend. There are plenty of outlets and have bar like seating in the front. It appears that they renovated the bathrooms too with new modern accoutrements which is nice. But I kind of miss the kitschy bathroom with writing on the frame of the mirrors etc. A lovely local coffeeshop with friendly baristas and your local neighborhood cop coming in for his coffee to go!

For me, The Bean Gallery is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. It's a solid little coffee shop with a few things that it does very well: - extensive coffee selection (dark roast? which one?) - dog friendly - quiet, comfortable seating - friendly staff - hours. They're open late so whether you need your morning coffee or just a quiet place to get away, you can find it here. and a few things it can work on: -parking :( -find a seat can be tough at peak times - because of the extensive drink choices, it can take awhile to get through line

Great little coffee shop that is owned by the same folks at Envie in the quarter. The great part about this place is that its open till midnight in a beautiful area in Mid-City. They have an outdoor patio for those warm days and cool nights. The coffee and tea selection is great and they offer some great deserts especially my favorite mascarpone cake that you can't find everywhere.

I really like this place, i've found myself in here a bit more lately than usual. Trying to get these last bike rides in while the weather permits has had me up earlier than usual these past mornings and stopping in here to kick off the day has been the move. I salute this coffee shop solely on their hours. I mean, opening at the crack of dawn and closing at midnight?! Talk about being there for you. The inside is really cozy, homey feel. Some well placed tables here n there, nice little seating area outside for you smokers and birdwatchers, it's some nice digs. Nice, clean bathrooms, bike parking just outside, no private lot but there's ample street parking so there shouldn't be much of an issue with that. If you're into carrot cake, try the carrot cake, it's pretty decent.

This place is always pack with hardly any seating available. Came out here to get some studying done. Got the iced chai with almond milk and it taste fairly decent. Not as good as mojos. It gets a little hot in here also but this place is a little more convenient for me. Wish they closed a little bit later but unfortunately it's 9pm.

Wow. I don't think I've been in this coffee shop since I've been yelping, but it's a really cute old house conversion. With a painfully reminding (or astonishing if you weren't here at the time) Katrina line painted above the sugar & cream station in the back. (The line is also above my head btw.) Stopped in for a quick iced tea while on the clock and was dismayed to discover that 9:30 on a week day morning seems to be the time to order your very complicated coffee beverage. What are these drinks with 4 pumps of this and 2 of that then throw the whole thing in a blender...OK that might have been 2 different orders. But the baristas were hustling and I was their 2nd favorite customer since all I wanted was a straight up drink. Of course, the favorite was the guy who just wanted a cup of coffee. My order required both tea and ice. They also had a pastries, juice and a sandwich board. There were lots of folks camped out at the tables and the comfy chairs. But no one was shushing anyone else so that was good. The space on the porch is nice *if* no one is smoking.

I should have updated this because I did have one of their sandwiches. It was mozzarella and tomato, if I recall. They call it the Panini Caprese. Anyway, it was good and you can have seasonal fruit or chips as a side. I got fruit. I saw someone else get a salmon, cream cheese, and capers sandwich, if I remember. It looked good. If you are a lacto-ovo type vegetarian, the Caprese is a good bet and I want to try that salmon as well. That is not a vegetarian option, obviously, but, then, I am not a vegetarian. I could be a lacto-ovo if not for seafood.

My home away from home! I love this little coffeeshop. When I need to get s**t done without kids underfoot I roll on over here. I don't drive because the parking situation (street) is bad and the meter nazis love to hit this block of Carrollton and St Peter. They're right on the City Park Street Car line and have a stop right out front though. Inside it's nice and cozy with local art adorning the walls. Eclectic but not in a junky, dive-y sort of way. Lots of comfy chairs, several 2 person tables and a large table in the middle. They have 2 internet access points with the passwords posted on the wall and it's strong enough that I can sit on the corner of allard/orleans/carrollton and pick up a signal with my phone. I love the baristas! They're always up for an experiment. My usual drink of choice is a frozen hazelnut coffee extra sweet but every once in awhile I deviate. The other day I ended up with a blended strawberry drink with no coffee in it. So good!

My favorite neighborhood coffee shop! This place gets crowded and noisy sometimes, so if you're studying, bring your ear buds. However, they have great coffee prices. I always get a medium latte (which includes three shots) for under $5 (don't forget to tip!). Parking is kind of a hassle. I've received random post its on my car asking me to "please not park here again" when there is no legal reason why I shouldn't. I think the residents in the area don't appreciate the Bean Gallery's clientele.

The Bean Gallery offers decent coffee and a brightly lit environment. It didn't stand out for me as super impressive in any way- just an average decent neighborhood coffee place. There are lots of windows and spacious tables to spread out study materials on, so this would be a great place to study (there were, in fact, lots of people studying in there when I went in.) They've got a bookcase full of books if you want to read something while you're sitting there (in case your friend or SO isn't finished studying and you are done and bored.) There's outdoor seating for those nice days when the weather is cooperating. The coffee was good and the barista was quick, friendly and efficient. I haven't tried the sandwiches so can't speak for those, but the bready cafe food (croissants, bagels, etc) is pretty basic (nothing out of this world amazing, but serviceable if you're needing a quick pastry or bagel before work, class, etc.) One of the biggest drawbacks is access- there isn't any parking specifically for the coffee shop and the one-way streets can be a hassle when trying to find parking (because if you have to go back out onto Carrollton then you'll have to cross all three lanes to make a U-turn to get back on the same side of the street again) All in all, I probably won't go out of my way to go here, but if I'm in the neighborhood and need caffeine, I'd stop in.

This is actually my favorite coffee shop in the city. Besides being completely local, they have great coffee and allow your dog to chill inside with you. It's always crowded but the crowd is friendly, as well as the staff. I come here all the time for coffee or as a meeting place. It's centrally located, just minutes from my house. Highly recommend it and love how dog-friendly this place is. Never had food there but it all looks great.

We stumbled upon the Bean Gallery on a lazy quiet afternoon. Its sounds like quiet is a bit unusual for this coffee shop, but alas when we stopped in there was only three other patrons - so quiet is apt for this review! We were looking for something off the beaten path and anything other than your typical Starbucks. The Bean Gallery fit the bill perfectly. Cozy and relaxed with a bit of an 'artsy' vibe. I also was less than impressed with the Styrofoam cups, but our coffee was strong and flavorful nonetheless. We enjoyed our java, the quaint cozy neighborhood feel, the local art work and were entertained by the signs in the restrooms. We will stop in for a 'spot-o-tea' the next time we need a bit of 'perking' up!

Although the baristas are all generally super friendly, I have to say that there's something obviously wrong with management here. The pastries are WAY overpriced for what they are, especially since some come from the Costco down the street. Also the quality of their ingredients for sandwiches is less than acceptable. They're also a huge styrofoam cup offender. On the plus side however, there is free wifi with purchase and their outdoor seating nice. Also they have a bookshelf with loaner books, and the atmosphere is usually comfortable (however not always). Overall I wouldn't waste my money, and I'd spend the extra 5+/- mins to go to Fair Grinds. However if you do go, PLEASE tip your barista well, cause they deserve it.

Great gem tucked along the busy S Carrolton street. They have an outdoors and indoors seating area. I usually like to sit outside since it can get a bit loud inside. Love this place! I'm from out of town and make a point to visit local coffee shops on my travels and this place is one of the best. The quality of the small double latte was excellent. The espresso flavor was rich and tasty and didn't need a lot of milk to make it palatable. Prices were consistent with other coffee shops. I didn't eat here, but the food looked good. I was tempted to get a cookie, but I can make a whole batch at home for the price of one in a coffee shop. The baristas were friendly and accommodating. Ambiance is nice as well. There are plenty of chairs, tables and comfy chairs. I sat and read for a few hours while I waited out the rain. Highly recommended.

This is my go to coffee shop. I usually get it and go but sometimes I sit outside if the weather is nice. The art on the wall is usually mediocre at best and overpriced. But this is about coffee and ambiance. The breakfast sandwich is good even though it is basically your standard panini pressed Sammie. Hip little spot in mid city with a familiar clientele. The baristas are all polite and very cool, the guy with the duck hat seems pretty into himself but I think deep down he is probably an okay fella. Glad to have this place in my neck of the woods.

Stumbled upon this coffee shop when my roommate and I were on our way to the airport. Its on the corner of Carrollton with a quaint porch and green awning. As soon as you step in, the vibe is a little hipsterish but the smell of roasted coffee beans is to die for. I ordered a cafe au lait (chicory coffee and skim milk) with a pumpkin spiced biscotti. YUM! the chicory coffee could have been a tiny bit stronger, but the milk to coffee ratio was on point. The staff was extremely friend and helpful and I can't wait for my next visit!!

I'm sure it's supposedly the City of New Orleans putting their foot down about some ridiculous ordinance (per usual), but it still doesn't change the fact that I now have to find a new favorite coffee shop. I used to come to Bean Gallery multiple times a week to get my work done, and bringing my dog with is my modus operandi. But now I've been relegated to sit outside with the smokers and complete lack of outlets for laptops. It's January and it's much too cold out for my dog. Farewell, Bean Gallery - we had a good run.

This is by far the best brewed coffee in mid-city. Sometimes a bit slow and the Baristas like to chat it up with costumers while there is a line...Seems like I am always waiting while they have conversation and that's after after making a specialty coffee that already took 6 minutes, just GET YOUR COFFE and go...lol. BUT they ARE firendly and well....the coffee is WORTH IT. They have the right system/equipment and TOP quality beans from locations like Peru, Guatemala, Middles East etc....and the grounds taste as fresh as they can. One of the only places in the area that is consistently top quality and price is good...same price as the local chain establishments but 10 times better.

The lady behind the counter was friendly and chatting with her co-worker. The place was packed. Not really place to study unless you can work in a noisy environment. But great for meeting up friends or just hanging out. They had a few tables outside and it's pretty large inside. It's got an organic vibe to it. I would probably return to try a cup of coffee on another occasion.

[Out-of-towner Review] Apparently NOLA hasn't been attacked by Starbucks yet... Cool local vibe. But sometimes, with cool local vibe, you get local average-ness. The two employees were just there. Not really gems at customer service, but not really on the rude side either. Food was average, wait time was extremely long. We ordered one bagel w/ lox and one "healthy" bagel. Don't ask to make substitutions, they don't do it. I guess you can't expect too much when you order a bagel with veggies and cheese. It was healthy and tasted fresh, but the cheese wasn't really melted. For the price, I would have rather spent my money elsewhere. Their coffee was decent. It did not have the overbearing tar taste, that Starbucks envelopes you in. It was good, but not great... So average, I don't really feel like elaborating!

I was marveled with an adorable little store front that was comfy, clean, and inviting. The barista was a real barista...I watched her make my Breve' Latte'...and it was like religion to her... They also had the cutest sign on the tip jar...that read 'Barista's 401K Plan"...I couldn't help than put more than usual in it. My coffee was amazing..and I was having a business meeting there. So I took my coffee out to the outdoor seating area...no problem finding a nice table and just the right amount of shade to make the hot morning cool... A nice little Mid City coffee spot for you to cozy up into. This place always has a good amount of people in here and has the usual coffee shop offerings to include pastries and the like. The interior reflects a Mid City vibe and the bathrooms are kinds cool. We came here for coffee. I normally get a cafe au lait and it was ok, nothing too memorable. We also grabbed hot chocolate which was pricey even for a coffee shop and lacked any memorable chocolate flavor. I honestly think I could have had a better one using the take home Starbucks cocoa you can buy at the grocery. They have sandwiches (panninis) and the like here they also have a great outside area for you to sit on a pretty day. I would come back.

Excellent get away spot for some custom coffee brews and panninis...also, one of the baristas here is Jennifer Garner...I'm convinced. Well, not really, and I hate saying that people look like other people (I didn't tell her this, but I'm sure someone else has). Not to mention, I awkwardly stared at her while she fixed my order, awaiting a random spew of Elektra's lines from Daredevil. No cigar. I dig coffee shops for the inadvertent pretentious predisposition of simply doing my work in peace while sipping something delightful, and being able to people watch periodically. It's a charming reminder of how much of a temporary slacker I am, and that I need to get back to work. Most importantly, a change of scenery from staring at my kitchen's entry way. I dig this spot because it has the perfect balance of hipsters, dedicated college students, and random focused nut jobs (myself). Besides, they have a great porch/balcony area to work when the weather's nice out. Sometimes the Wi-Fi gets really slow when I'm in the most crucial moments of my work. That's my fault though, for relying on public Wi-Fi to complete real work. All the sandwiches aren't great, and I've had a stale pastry here and there, but I will give the setting a plus. I'll just buy coffee and bring my own snacks from now on.

Not bad. definitely the best coffee you'll find in this area, but that's about it. I went in the other day and got a latte and a breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich tasted like something you'd buy in the frozen food section at a grocery store. The coffee wasn't bad, better than starbucks but that's not saying much. The staff seemed kind of disinterested. I walked in and there was one customer waiting on what looked like a fairly complicated order and both people behind the counter worked on it together, even though only one person at a time can really do anything because the orders were all expresso based. So what happened what I stood at the counter waiting like a dunce, while 1 employee worked to put together a complicated order, and the other kind of stood in the way trying to help, when they could have taken my order and the 5 people that walked in behind me. After watching this song and dance for about 8 minutes, they finally took my order. I noticed after my order was taken the person behind me was offered a punch card.........an offer I wasn't made aware of either of the 3 times I've been in here the last 2 weeks. I think that was the last straw for me. Its a nice environment to chill and is unique for the area, but the staff and the food sucks.

I really wanted to like this place more. Especially since there are so few coffee house's in Mid-City...but the coffee is inconsistent at best. The mocha reminded me too much of Hershey's chocolate syrup and the service has been pretty lukewarm. On a positive note: I do like the outdoor sitting area overlooking Carrollton Ave, and the Chai is quite yummy.

I discovered today that not only is this an excellent coffee shop (and therefore a great place to study, read, meet with someone, whatever it is you like to do at coffee shops), but it's ALSO an excellent place for a bite to eat. I was starving and couldn't decide where to go for lunch today; no food in the house, wanted something reasonably healthy, etc. I remembered that Bean Gallery had food, so headed there (since I needed coffee anyway). Turned out that the panninis are excellent. I had the Caprese, and it was one of the best I've had, from a coffee shop or anywhere else. You get grapes on the side (or chips or potato salad), which is cool because you don't often see fresh fruit. They're reasonably priced, the staff is always friendly, and there's a huge deck outside to enjoy when the weather is nice. Seems silly to update a five star review with a five star review, but I hope the new information is useful to someone. I'd been wondering about their food, so I can go ahead and check that off my list. Hooray for The Bean Gallery!

Every drink I've ever had here was solid. Once upon a time I had a panini that was a little on the "meh" side, but that's the only snag I've hit so far. The jasmine tea here is AWESOME.

This is a decent coffee spot in Midcity. I've eaten lunch hear twice and both times the food was pretty much what I expected. A decent veggie sandwich with some sort of vague pestoish sauce. Nothing spectacular but certainly nothing to complain about. You can also choose some pretty killer potato salad or some nice fresh strawberries as your side. The coffee is pretty decent as well. Again nothing spectacular but certainly fine if you happen to be in the neighborhood. The food also takes a really long time to come out (not surprising given the baristas have to prepare it) and is a bit pricey for what it is. The staff is always really nice and dosen't get all pissy when you order food, even though it's extra work for them. Given that this place is surrounded by box stores and chains, it's the best meal/ coffee spot I've found in this part of Midcity. There are some nice food spots a few blocks up the road passed Rouse's as well.

Stopped by this magical little-known mid city shop on a random sunday bike ride and was pleasantly surprised! The outdoor seating with the clever mod chairs on the lifted deck are what pulled me in but their pastries had me staying around for a bit! We split a bagel, which was not one of those 5 lb, preservative packed, lumps of dough, it was light and crispy. But the toaster takes forever when you're hungry. My husband loved his iced coffee, but I was not so much a fan of my soy chai. I found it to be kind of watery and weak. This was not on ice, as I could have sworn I ordered, so the watery came from something else that wasn't so tasty. However, I was excited to see the lunch menu, I'm a big fan of paninis. Those tables outside are perfectly spaced, arranged neatly on the corner, waiting for my return with a giant appetite and book to read!

i agree with damon. this place is the dumps when it comes to good espresso. it's a sad day when a coffee shop's product tastes exactly like what comes out of mcdonald's electronic barista machine. the only saving grace is that the medium comes with three shots instead of the usual doppio. seriously, save a dollar and go to mcdonalds.

I've been here two times so far. I came the first time with the friend just to meet up and I kind of liked it but I didnt feel as home here as I do at a couple of other coffee shops in the city (Zotz & FairGrinds... I'm looking at you). I don't really know why cause it wasn't very far from where I was living at the time (off Esplanade) but it just didn't vibe with me as much. I was a lot happier the second time I went. The barista (she told me she's new) was really friendly and I ended helping her pick up a bit at night since I was the last lagging customer (and there was absolutely NO PRESSURE for me to leave, which I liked). I got green tea with milk added honey (which I almost NEVER do) and I liked it enough. I can't say I remember if I like their coffee or not (see 1st trip). The barista recommended me all of the bagels except for one (which was something we joked about) and the one I ended up going with was excellent. And even though I haven't tried any of their panninis, I'm definitely very tempted to and appreciate the fact that they do seem to have a decent menu for a coffee shop. This place is probably good for meeting friends but better for doing homework or reading book. They do have some nice, comfy couches which I appreciated and I also liked some of the local artwork they had around the place. I like how spacious it is and the artwork in the restroom. I think I may have to follow-up on this place because I feel 50/50 about it. I feel it could grow on me or get to me. So, Bean Gallery... I'm watchin' you...

For being within a two-minute vicinity of three big-box retailers on a six-lane street, place-wise, The Bean Gallery manages to be very nice -- leafy, great porch, and with a living room-esque interior. Coffee-wise, the drip coffee's good. The iced coffee's served in a styrofoam cup that's intended for hot coffee. Feels weird to drink. Not very tasty either. Five stars for place, three stars for coffee.

Great study spot if you don't want to run into anyone like Barnes, the library, or starbucks! The coffee is great, nothing too special, but it's nothing terrible. The only problem I have is the random "study" groups that come in and sit in the middle of the place and talk really loud for the entire place to hear loud and clear about their personal problems. There are tables outside for that. Especially if you're not going to do anything but sit and talk about your problems for a good 30-60 min straight and then leave. But other than those rude people, it's great!

Not being a coffee drinker, I view coffee houses as a place to remove yourself from the routine of life and reflect. Bean gallery provides that type of atmosphere with just the right mixture or inside/outdoor seating, tables to study or lounge chairs to read, quiet studying or din of inane chatter, and the occassional streetcar sauntering by that so defines living in new orleans. The baked goods are always tasty and they have a good selection of teas to help warm the soul. Plus, its walking distance from my home (so much for the break of routine)

I like coffee shops. I study at them. I work in them. I hang out at them...way too much. I spend tons of my hard earned cash on coffee shops despite being able to brew a perfectly good cup at home. I consider myself a conniseur of the coffee shop. Bean Gallery disappoints me. Bean Gallery has terrible coffee. It's watery and lukewarm. The espresso is likewise not tasty and is expensive. The workers seem lost as to how to make a good espresso. The tea is good albeit expensive. The barista charges seem to be completely arbitrary. I don't think I ever pay the same price twice here. The cafe has many tables for studying and people turn it into a makeshift office during the day. In the morning there is a large crowd of regulars. They basically yell at each other when conversing. I've never heard people speak this loudly! One of the worst offenders has a dog that either smells terrible when he brings it inside or barks outside. The regulars usually yell to each other about local politics and news stories in the daily paper. I think it's really inappropriate. I think the regulars believe it's kitschy and cute. At night there are several tutors who meet with students on the big table. This can be a bit uncomfortable to be around and the tutors are loud. The shop features an array of used books that range from "Basics of Mechanical Engineering" to "A Guide on Planetary Leadership." The internet is so-so. It's not a bad place for study but it tends to get really loud. The morning and night regulars are pretty obnoxious about their decibel level. One of the biggest complaints I have about BG is that it's so dirty. Flthy!! It walks the line between yuppie shop and hippie shop, taking the worst of both worlds. Obnoxiousness and uncleanliness. The bathrooms scare me. I've seen worse, but these are just not acceptable for the caliber of shop this should be. The sanwhiches and food are pretty bad. They are delivered fresh daily but the quality is low. Ordering a sandwhich here made me regret not eating at one of the many other options nearby. Parking is all along the street. It's actually a little bit dangerous to avoid cars flying down Canal Street or turning down the road alongside the shop. The road by the shop is very narrow with cars parked on both sides. Cars turning from Canal are forced to speed across onto this street and go far too fast by the parked cars. Thus patrons exiting their cars in this area are in real danger of being hit. There is not a good solution to this problem other than avoiding parking on that street. I do like the mugs that are used in the coffee shop. But they are a bit dirty and do not make up for the many deficiencies. To-go cups are, as another reviewer pointed out, styrofoam. Whatever. This place has many other things it needs to address before the cups! Overall this is a usable coffeeshop but I live nearby and will drive elsewhere if I can spare the time. This shop has the bones of being a GREAT place, but it disappoints as is.

I keep returning to this place because it's convenient and I'm addicted to coffee so it serves it's purpose. It's walking distance from my house and has a little bit of outdoor seating. The coffee is not good. It's just not. When I get a cup of dark roast, it's weak and once I add sugar or cream, it doesn't taste like coffee anymore. The espresso is overly bitter and the barristas/barristers put way too much syrup when I order a flavored latte. It's also a little pretentious. I've had numerous issues with the staff for being rude or not willing to make my coffee the way I order it. It's like a library in there! EVERYONE is studying with a mac! EVERYONE! I feel like I can't sit down and have a conversation with the person I'm with without being stared at! It feels like being uptown, which I hate! So, whenever I go, I grab a seat outdoor and hope no one is smoking!

Although this will never be my go-to morning stop for coffee (I must have a PJ's iced mocha every day to get going, see my review on PJ's for more details) I do like the Bean Gallery for an afternoon or evening hang out. The PJ's that is down the street from this location closes early and they don't have great seating, but I suppose I should save my gripes for their review. The Bean Gallery has a relaxed vibe and feels very much like a neighborhood hang out, which I think is important when considering where to sit and write your Yelp reviews. The hot chocolate and chai latte that I've tried here were yummy and the baristas are friendly. They have outdoor seating which is great this time of year in New Orleans, complete with ash trays for all you smokers out there. Coffee and cigarettes do go hand in hand, after all. The Bean Gallery also offers a book swap, so you can ashamedly smuggle in your over-used copy of Twilight and switch it out for something more mentally stimulating, like Harry Potter. (Disclaimer: There is no guarantee that you will find Twilight or Harry Potter on the shelves here.) Parking is bit of a pain. It's all on street parking, on busy Carrollton Ave. or the side street next to the shop, so you have to be careful getting in and out of your vehicle. Another perk (pun possibly intended) to this coffee shop is the fact that it is literally 455 ft. from my house. My friend sent me her Google Latitude update while she was here a few weeks ago, which is how I know the exact footage. With that distance in mind, you should probably avoid checking in here if I happen to have a restraining order against you. Otherwise, I recommend the Bean Gallery for your caffeine and chill atmosphere needs. Bonus: Apparently you can purchase eternal happiness for $1 (in the tip jar.) Not a bad deal in this economy!

As far as coffee shops go, this place is OK. There are lots of tables but they are very close together. Whenever I go during the day, the entire place is filled with people working or studying (free wifi). I like that there are tables outside- if the weather is nice, I'd rather sit outside. There is a bookcase stocked with books so if you're not working or studying, check it out. The lattes are ok, the chai is nothing special; the selection of baked goods is random (literally- it is never the same). Everything seems a little too expensive for what you get. They have a frequent purchase card but only some of the baristas even bring it up. I've never eaten anything other than muffins or other baked goods but they have a nice little selection of paninis and other sandwiches on their menu. The sandwiches are not cheap but also not terribly expensive either, so I'll have give those a try sometime. I wouldn't go out of the way to go here but if you are in Mid City along the streetcar line, check out The Bean Gallery.

This is a perfect neighborhood cafe! I was searching for a place with food, coffee and internet (the trifecta), and this was suggested to me by a friend. I had a delicious portabella sandwich and latte, not too expensive. The ambiance is friendly, warm and cozy. Everyone is studying quietly, few distractions. There are lots of smaller sized tables perfect for a laptop and a cup of coffee for one or two people, a few lounge style seating areas, counters, and a large table for groups. Fantastic. Absolutely most importantly, they play classical music through the sound system. As this is December, I cannot emphasize how wonderful it is to escape the inanity of Christmas carols at every place of business that we all have to endure for the next three weeks. Thank you Bean Gallery for sparing us!!!

I've only been here twice, but the Bean Gallery is an awesome place to work or read. It's low-key, with interesting but not in-your-face music, good sandwiches, bagels + cute/different biscotti flavors, and every sort of seating option you could want -- worn-out old couches, booths, round tables everywhere, and seating outdoors on the patio. Because sometimes staring @ the wall is a far-superior view than picking the corner couch, where you can people-watch. I love the little fireplace and small library, and the low-key brooding intellecutal type The Bean Gallery seems to attract. If you're in the neighborhood and need a little hideaway to get your nose to the grindstone, The Bean Gallery will treat you right :)

Ok... so yes... it should be evident... I'm loyal to my hood. But who isn't? And all of that is irrelevant when you recognize how many coffee shops we have in our sit down, take a load off, and sip on something culture.... having a local coffee shop is just par for the course. The coffee here is tasty and they don't mess around with a weak cup (which is more than I can say for some others.... ahem... I'm looking at you cc's). Also.. the fact that they're not ridiculously overpriced (....pj's it used to be that I could afford you). And that they're not an international chain that's lost all of it's flavor to some bland overly sweet commericalized style (I am glarinf at you starbucks). I haven't made it round to the pastries, but I love their bagels. A friend that used to work at envie tells me they fly them in from nyc... I don't care, an everything bagel with cream cheese from there makes my Saturday mornings before our volunteer days.... and sometimes my off days too. They are tasty and crisp up very well and the fact that they offer 4 different kinds of cream cheese always helps out when I want to branch out but not too far.... I love the deck and the breeze it somehow miraculously catches. As well as the fact that no one minds when I bring the dog to sit with me out there and read a book. The couches and lounge chairs inside are comfy anf the variety of seating is great wether you're going by yourself or with a game/ study group. And lord help me but when I am feeling totally unproductive those bar seats along the wall totally help to kick my ass in gear. The staff has always been friendly and I love the tip jar moments of humor. And if you're looking to check out some new artists check out the walls, they feature someone new I believe every month. And the book exchange is one of my favorite things ever. I'm a voracious reader when I have a moment and my addiction to bookstores is bad for my wallet so I love being able to go trade in a book... especially since sometimes it forces me out of my comfort zone. Ps... went in the other morning to make a pit stop and hit up the restroom. They just painted the one farther back and if you're looking for the light switch it is well hidden. It's on you're right fairly low to the ground. Check out the streetcar painted in there... it rocked my world.

A small, relaxed little coffee shop. Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Comfortable. Big, plush, sofa chairs to sit in, if so desired as well as the standard table/chair combo that I find it more comfortable to write at. I often go here for meetings with clients because it's relaxed and quiet. And when I go here to write, it's got enough going on for me to let my wander occasionally when it needs a break. I am so glad that I discovered this place! I walk to The Bean Gallery occasionally just to relax with a good book and some great coffee. They have red velvet coffee, which is really unique and good. I am a big fan of their frozen and iced coffees and usually opt for their always awesome peppermint frozen coffee. I have never tried their sandwiches or anything, but I can tell you that their scones and brownies are awesome. My scones always taste like flour and are inedible. I never knew scones were supposed to be light and fluffy like they are here, and always despised them; now I know it's just because I suck at making them. The atmosphere is really chill. They have a little bookshelf for you to have something to read. They also have a little patio for you to sit on. Overall, a great place to hang out and relax.

Oh my goodness, another reason midcity is another amazing part of new orleans. I happened to have a day off and I live about 5 block from the bean gallery so after a quick book read at city park I decided to grab lunch. It being a coffee shop I figured a light menu would be possible of pre-made snaks and lunch dishes. I ordered the italian panini without the typical ham and olive oil it traditiionally comes with. It was beyond satisfying. Freshly made panini's and sandwhiches. You have the option of make your own bagel sandwhichs and a variety of bagels to choose from. Needless to say I will most definetly be returning. I would say however, the service was dry. Noticeably. Nothing to turn you away, but not as welcoming as a "starbucks" type establishment would be or a locally owned establishment should be. All in all amazing food, great coffee and a great atmosphere to read a book, study, or catch up on some private time. I loved it.

Sorry, anti-NOLA screed coming up here: What is with the freakin' styrofoam cups in this city?! Bean Gallery is one of the worst offenders, which is why I bring it up here. Really: on aesthetic, ecological, and customer service grounds it just sucks. There's really nothing like a nice cup of lapsang souchoung served in a foam pint glass, but that's what you get, even when you make it very clear you want it "for here." The fact that this place is very popular with the laptop crowd (which often means one cup of coffee= two hours of silent tapping) makes it all the more lazy, narrow-minded, and well, NEW ORLEANS that no one who works here can bother washing a glass. So, yeah, the actual cafe: it's not bad. It's basically a makeshift office during the day that serves lukewarm coffee. I'm sure it's nice and neighborhoody in the evening. Sorry again, vent ended.

The coffee isn't the best in New Orleans, but by no means is it the worse, in fact I enjoy the atmosphere so much it makes up for the not amazing coffee. Cute neighborhood coffee shop in Mid-City, right off the Carrollton streetcar line. Not one of the see-and-be-seen coffee establishments in NOLA, but if you live nearby, it's a good place to stop in and steal wi-fi. The building is really cool, too. It's a converted double, although they kept the fireplace in the middle. The patio is great when it's nice out those few days in the spring and the fall.

As I'm prone to distractions at home, I needed to find somewhere where I could get masses of work done that was comfortable and served amazing coffee. The Bean Gallery meets all my criteria and is within walking distance of my home. The servers are friendly, the drinks are delicious, and there is always a great selection of baked goods if you are hungry. My knitting group meets here once a week, which is great for me since it is close to home, but even if I didn't live in Mid City, I would enjoy coming here. Spacious with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, good coffee and tea selection along with pastries, bagels, cake, gelato and paninis. Serves as an art gallery (thus the name) with rotating local artists' work, and sometimes features live music in the evenings. The staff usually plays WWOZ on the radio or a decent mix of non-invasive tunes. Students come here to study, neighbors stop by to catch up with goings-on, and groups like mine convene to work and discuss. This is a very popular, laid-back spot perfect for grabbing a beverage before or after a day at City Park.

So after recommendations from some of Andrew's work friends, we decided to hit up The Bean Gallery and check out what all the fuss was about. The place itself is a very relaxed coffee house with plenty of seating for all your study needs with both indoor and outdoor seating available. They also offer free wifi with the password up on one of the chalkboards when you enter. Atmospherically, it's brilliant! The server seemed out of it though..talked quietly and well, got my order wrong due to it. I ordered an iced chai latter but I received a iced soy latte..not sure how that got mixed up but what ever, it was okay. I would've preferred my actual order but this one wasn't particularly terrible by no means. I also ordered a slice of the Lemon Berry Mascarpone cake. This was delicious! Light and fluffy and flavoured perfectly. I also took a few bites of Andrew's Mocha Cake and it was just as delightful. Anyways, a pretty cool study spot with a relaxed atmosphere with delicious treats to keep you going. Recommended!

3.75/5 new haunt - open to 12! oh man. i'm starting to feel like i'm cheating here... it started with late night availability. at first it was just an iced coffee. super casual, everyone does it. then it became a frozen coffee. then a little iced tea on the side, double duty. then a panini, which the prosciutto and asparagus seems like a great value. i may or may not be eating one now. then there was lemon blueberry cake, and then a german chocolate cake iced latte...i don't know what to say. never had an issue finding a seat with a nearby outlet to stay powered up even when it's bustling. for when i know i need to do a bit of work, this is becoming an easy, accessible go-to that actually has decent drinks and food. and it's the kind of place that is making me think about moving to the neighborhood.

This is one of my neighborhood locally owned coffee shops! I love their service, hot chocolate and desserts. Some of my favorite desserts are their huge cookies (the size of a hockey puck), their delicious almond croissant with almond filling, and their chocolate croissant. One of these days I will try one of their slices of cakes! It's a small coffeeshop with outdoor seating which is nice on a beautiful day. On the inside it has comfortable leather chairs and a large table that is reserved on Wednesday evenings for a knitting group. It's really cozy and the main problem is that you've gotta get lucky trying to get a seat in the weekend. I think since his is one of the few coffeeshops in the neighborhood that is open late then it gets packed on the weekend. There are plenty of outlets and have bar like seating in the front. It appears that they renovated the bathrooms too with new modern accoutrements which is nice. But I kind of miss the kitschy bathroom with writing on the frame of the mirrors etc. A lovely local coffeeshop with friendly baristas and your local neighborhood cop coming in for his coffee to go!

For me, The Bean Gallery is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. It's a solid little coffee shop with a few things that it does very well: - extensive coffee selection (dark roast? which one?) - dog friendly - quiet, comfortable seating - friendly staff - hours. Great little coffee shop that is owned by the same folks at Envie in the quarter. The great part about this place is that its open till midnight in a beautiful area in Mid-City. They have an outdoor patio for those warm days and cool nights. I really like this place, i've found myself in here a bit more lately than usual. Trying to get these last bike rides in while the weather permits has had me up earlier than usual these past mornings and stopping in here to kick off the day has been the move. I salute this coffee shop solely on their hours. I mean, opening at the crack of dawn and closing at midnight?! Talk about being there for you. The inside is really cozy, homey feel. Some well placed tables here n there, nice little seating area outside for you smokers and birdwatchers, it's some nice digs. Nice, clean bathrooms, bike parking just outside, no private lot but there's ample street parking so there shouldn't be much of an issue with that. If you're into carrot cake, try the carrot cake, it's pretty decent.

Wow. I don't think I've been in this coffee shop since I've been yelping, but it's a really cute old house conversion. With a painfully reminding (or astonishing if you weren't here at the time) Katrina line painted above the sugar & cream station in the back. (The line is also above my head btw.) Stopped in for a quick iced tea while on the clock and was dismayed to discover that 9:30 on a week day morning seems to be the time to order your very complicated coffee beverage. What are these drinks with 4 pumps of this and 2 of that then throw the whole thing in a blender...OK that might have been 2 different orders. But the baristas were hustling and I was their 2nd favorite customer since all I wanted was a straight up drink. Of course, the favorite was the guy who just wanted a cup of coffee. My order required both tea and ice. They also had a pastries, juice and a sandwich board. There were lots of folks camped out at the tables and the comfy chairs. But no one was shushing anyone else so that was good. The space on the porch is nice *if* no one is smoking.

I should have updated this because I did have one of their sandwiches. It was mozzarella and tomato, if I recall. They call it the Panini Caprese. Anyway, it was good and you can have seasonal fruit or chips as a side. I got fruit. I saw someone else get a salmon, cream cheese, and capers sandwich, if I remember. It looked good. If you are a lacto-ovo type vegetarian, the Caprese is a good bet and I want to try that salmon as well. That is not a vegetarian option, obviously, but, then, I am not a vegetarian. I could be a lacto-ovo if not for seafood.

My home away from home! I love this little coffeeshop. When I need to get s**t done without kids underfoot I roll on over here. I don't drive because the parking situation (street) is bad and the meter nazis love to hit this block of Carrollton and St Peter. They're right on the City Park Street Car line and have a stop right out front though. Inside it's nice and cozy with local art adorning the walls. Eclectic but not in a junky, dive-y sort of way. Lots of comfy chairs, several 2 person tables and a large table in the middle. They have 2 internet access points with the passwords posted on the wall and it's strong enough that I can sit on the corner of allard/orleans/carrollton and pick up a signal with my phone. I love the baristas! They're always up for an experiment. My usual drink of choice is a frozen hazelnut coffee extra sweet but every once in awhile I deviate. The other day I ended up with a blended strawberry drink with no coffee in it. So good!

I work from home so a nice coffee shop with good food is essential. Their prociutto and asparagus panini was delish, coffee is also good. The place is not as comfy to work long hours but for shorter periods will do. Not as noisy and no loud tourists.

My favorite neighborhood coffee shop! This place gets crowded and noisy sometimes, so if you're studying, bring your ear buds. However, they have great coffee prices. I always get a medium latte (which includes three shots) for under $5 (don't forget to tip!). Parking is kind of a hassle. I've received random post its on my car asking me to "please not park here again" when there is no legal reason why I shouldn't. I think the residents in the area don't appreciate the Bean Gallery's clientele.

Also, they evidently do something nice with coffee and whatnot, but I have no idea about that stuff. And the service is good, and they're friendly. And prices are competitive. But. It's the cake. The Bean Gallery offers decent coffee and a brightly lit environment. It didn't stand out for me as super impressive in any way- just an average decent neighborhood coffee place. There are lots of windows and spacious tables to spread out study materials on, so this would be a great place to study (there were, in fact, lots of people studying in there when I went in.) They've got a bookcase full of books if you want to read something while you're sitting there (in case your friend or SO isn't finished studying and you are done and bored.) There's outdoor seating for those nice days when the weather is cooperating. The coffee was good and the barista was quick, friendly and efficient. I haven't tried the sandwiches so can't speak for those, but the bready cafe food (croissants, bagels, etc) is pretty basic (nothing out of this world amazing, but serviceable if you're needing a quick pastry or bagel before work, class, etc.) One of the biggest drawbacks is access- there isn't any parking specifically for the coffee shop and the one-way streets can be a hassle when trying to find parking (because if you have to go back out onto Carrollton then you'll have to cross all three lanes to make a U-turn to get back on the same side of the street again) All in all, I probably won't go out of my way to go here, but if I'm in the neighborhood and need caffeine, I'd stop in.

This is actually my favorite coffee shop in the city. Besides being completely local, they have great coffee and allow your dog to chill inside with you. It's always crowded but the crowd is friendly, as well as the staff. I come here all the time for coffee or as a meeting place. It's centrally located, just minutes from my house. Highly recommend it and love how dog-friendly this place is. Never had food there but it all looks great.

We stumbled upon the Bean Gallery on a lazy quiet afternoon. Its sounds like quiet is a bit unusual for this coffee shop, but alas when we stopped in there was only three other patrons - so quiet is apt for this review! We were looking for something off the beaten path and anything other than your typical Starbucks. The Bean Gallery fit the bill perfectly. Cozy and relaxed with a bit of an 'artsy' vibe. I also was less than impressed with the Styrofoam cups, but our coffee was strong and flavorful nonetheless. We enjoyed our java, the quaint cozy neighborhood feel, the local art work and were entertained by the signs in the restrooms. We will stop in for a 'spot-o-tea' the next time we need a bit of 'perking' up!

Although the baristas are all generally super friendly, I have to say that there's something obviously wrong with management here. The pastries are WAY overpriced for what they are, especially since some come from the Costco down the street. Also the quality of their ingredients for sandwiches is less than acceptable. They're also a huge styrofoam cup offender. On the plus side however, there is free wifi with purchase and their outdoor seating nice. Also they have a bookshelf with loaner books, and the atmosphere is usually comfortable (however not always). Overall I wouldn't waste my money, and I'd spend the extra 5+/- mins to go to Fair Grinds. However if you do go, PLEASE tip your barista well, cause they deserve it.

Great gem tucked along the busy S Carrolton street. They have an outdoors and indoors seating area. I usually like to sit outside since it can get a bit loud inside. Love this place! I'm from out of town and make a point to visit local coffee shops on my travels and this place is one of the best. The quality of the small double latte was excellent. The espresso flavor was rich and tasty and didn't need a lot of milk to make it palatable. Prices were consistent with other coffee shops. I didn't eat here, but the food looked good. I was tempted to get a cookie, but I can make a whole batch at home for the price of one in a coffee shop. The baristas were friendly and accommodating. Ambiance is nice as well. There are plenty of chairs, tables and comfy chairs. I sat and read for a few hours while I waited out the rain. Highly recommended.

I am here all the time cuz I live next door. Coffee can be hit or miss. Male staffers are not the greatest with people. Female staff is great. Long wait for the food but it is pretty good. That being said, I love it! haha. Great atmosphere. Great place to sit outside (or inside) and read or study).

I would give The Bean Gallery 5 stars, but I am here at 5 pm on a Wednesday and there is one girl working. There is a constant line of people coming in, and she seems totally overwhelmed! I ordered a sandwich but she won't have time to make it any time soon. She is super apologetic, and I understand where she is coming from, but the girl needs help! Schedule two people for this time of day! Love it otherwise :-)

This is my go to coffee shop. I usually get it and go but sometimes I sit outside if the weather is nice. The art on the wall is usually mediocre at best and overpriced. But this is about coffee and ambiance. The breakfast sandwich is good even though it is basically your standard panini pressed Sammie. Hip little spot in mid city with a familiar clientele. The baristas are all polite and very cool, the guy with the duck hat seems pretty into himself but I think deep down he is probably an okay fella. Glad to have this place in my neck of the woods.

Stumbled upon this coffee shop when my roommate and I were on our way to the airport. Its on the corner of Carrollton with a quaint porch and green awning. As soon as you step in, the vibe is a little hipsterish but the smell of roasted coffee beans is to die for. I ordered a cafe au lait (chicory coffee and skim milk) with a pumpkin spiced biscotti. YUM! the chicory coffee could have been a tiny bit stronger, but the milk to coffee ratio was on point. The staff was extremely friend and helpful and I can't wait for my next visit!!

I had to take a star off my original rating - DOGS NOT ALLOWED! Well, sad to say that the day has come: Bean Gallery's owner has decided to no longer allow dogs inside. I'm sure it's supposedly the City of New Orleans putting their foot down about some ridiculous ordinance (per usual), but it still doesn't change the fact that I now have to find a new favorite coffee shop. I used to come to Bean Gallery multiple times a week to get my work done, and bringing my dog with is my modus operandi. But now I've been relegated to sit outside with the smokers and complete lack of outlets for laptops. It's January and it's much too cold out for my dog. Farewell, Bean Gallery - we had a good run.

This is by far the best brewed coffee in mid-city. Sometimes a bit slow and the Baristas like to chat it up with costumers while there is a line...Seems like I am always waiting while they have conversation and that's after after making a specialty coffee that already took 6 minutes, just GET YOUR COFFE and go...lol. BUT they ARE firendly and well....the coffee is WORTH IT. They have the right system/equipment and TOP quality beans from locations like Peru, Guatemala, Middles East etc....and the grounds taste as fresh as they can. One of the only places in the area that is consistently top quality and price is good...same price as the local chain establishments but 10 times better.

Disclaimer: I haven't had any coffee here so I can't speak to that. Went in craving something sweet. They had 4 large Costco cakes so I look a slice of the chocolate cake which was satisfying. The lady behind the counter was friendly and chatting with her co-worker. The place was packed. Not really place to study unless you can work in a noisy environment. But great for meeting up friends or just hanging out. They had a few tables outside and it's pretty large inside. It's got an organic vibe to it. I would probably return to try a cup of coffee on another occasion.

[Out-of-towner Review] Apparently NOLA hasn't been attacked by Starbucks yet... Cool local vibe. But sometimes, with cool local vibe, you get local average-ness. The two employees were just there. Not really gems at customer service, but not really on the rude side either. Food was average, wait time was extremely long. We ordered one bagel w/ lox and one "healthy" bagel. Don't ask to make substitutions, they don't do it. I guess you can't expect too much when you order a bagel with veggies and cheese. It was healthy and tasted fresh, but the cheese wasn't really melted. For the price, I would have rather spent my money elsewhere. Their coffee was decent. It did not have the overbearing tar taste, that Starbucks envelopes you in. It was good, but not great... So average, I don't really feel like elaborating!

I was marveled with an adorable little store front that was comfy, clean, and inviting. The barista was a real barista...I watched her make my Breve' Latte'...and it was like religion to her... They also had the cutest sign on the tip jar...that read 'Barista's 401K Plan"...I couldn't help than put more than usual in it. My coffee was amazing..and I was having a business meeting there. So I took my coffee out to the outdoor seating area...no problem finding a nice table and just the right amount of shade to make the hot morning cool... A nice little Mid City coffee spot for you to cozy up into. This place always has a good amount of people in here and has the usual coffee shop offerings to include pastries and the like. The interior reflects a Mid City vibe and the bathrooms are kinds cool. We came here for coffee. I normally get a cafe au lait and it was ok, nothing too memorable. We also grabbed hot chocolate which was pricey even for a coffee shop and lacked any memorable chocolate flavor. I honestly think I could have had a better one using the take home Starbucks cocoa you can buy at the grocery. They have sandwiches (panninis) and the like here they also have a great outside area for you to sit on a pretty day. I would come back.

Excellent get away spot for some custom coffee brews and panninis...also, one of the baristas here is Jennifer Garner...I'm convinced. Well, not really, and I hate saying that people look like other people (I didn't tell her this, but I'm sure someone else has). Not to mention, I awkwardly stared at her while she fixed my order, awaiting a random spew of Elektra's lines from Daredevil. No cigar. I dig coffee shops for the inadvertent pretentious predisposition of simply doing my work in peace while sipping something delightful, and being able to people watch periodically. It's a charming reminder of how much of a temporary slacker I am, and that I need to get back to work. Most importantly, a change of scenery from staring at my kitchen's entry way. I dig this spot because it has the perfect balance of hipsters, dedicated college students, and random focused nut jobs (myself). Besides, they have a great porch/balcony area to work when the weather's nice out. Sometimes the Wi-Fi gets really slow when I'm in the most crucial moments of my work. That's my fault though, for relying on public Wi-Fi to complete real work. All the sandwiches aren't great, and I've had a stale pastry here and there, but I will give the setting a plus. I'll just buy coffee and bring my own snacks from now on.

Not bad. definitely the best coffee you'll find in this area, but that's about it. I went in the other day and got a latte and a breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich tasted like something you'd buy in the frozen food section at a grocery store. The coffee wasn't bad, better than starbucks but that's not saying much. The staff seemed kind of disinterested. I walked in and there was one customer waiting on what looked like a fairly complicated order and both people behind the counter worked on it together, even though only one person at a time can really do anything because the orders were all expresso based. So what happened what I stood at the counter waiting like a dunce, while 1 employee worked to put together a complicated order, and the other kind of stood in the way trying to help, when they could have taken my order and the 5 people that walked in behind me. After watching this song and dance for about 8 minutes, they finally took my order. I noticed after my order was taken the person behind me was offered a punch card.........an offer I wasn't made aware of either of the 3 times I've been in here the last 2 weeks. I think that was the last straw for me. Its a nice environment to chill and is unique for the area, but the staff and the food sucks.

I really wanted to like this place more. Especially since there are so few coffee house's in Mid-City...but the coffee is inconsistent at best. The mocha reminded me too much of Hershey's chocolate syrup and the service has been pretty lukewarm. On a positive note: I do like the outdoor sitting area overlooking Carrollton Ave, and the Chai is quite yummy.

I discovered today that not only is this an excellent coffee shop (and therefore a great place to study, read, meet with someone, whatever it is you like to do at coffee shops), but it's ALSO an excellent place for a bite to eat. I was starving and couldn't decide where to go for lunch today; no food in the house, wanted something reasonably healthy, etc. I remembered that Bean Gallery had food, so headed there (since I needed coffee anyway). Turned out that the panninis are excellent. I had the Caprese, and it was one of the best I've had, from a coffee shop or anywhere else. You get grapes on the side (or chips or potato salad), which is cool because you don't often see fresh fruit. They're reasonably priced, the staff is always friendly, and there's a huge deck outside to enjoy when the weather is nice. Seems silly to update a five star review with a five star review, but I hope the new information is useful to someone. I'd been wondering about their food, so I can go ahead and check that off my list. Hooray for The Bean Gallery!

You know those coffee shops where you have hordes of med and law school students hunched over their laptops in various states of sleep/actual work/wasting time on Facebook? This is the Bean Gallery. Every drink I've ever had here was solid. Once upon a time I had a panini that was a little on the "meh" side, but that's the only snag I've hit so far. The jasmine tea here is AWESOME.

This is a decent coffee spot in Midcity. I've eaten lunch hear twice and both times the food was pretty much what I expected. A decent veggie sandwich with some sort of vague pestoish sauce. Nothing spectacular but certainly nothing to complain about. You can also choose some pretty killer potato salad or some nice fresh strawberries as your side. The coffee is pretty decent as well. Again nothing spectacular but certainly fine if you happen to be in the neighborhood. The food also takes a really long time to come out (not surprising given the baristas have to prepare it) and is a bit pricey for what it is. The staff is always really nice and dosen't get all pissy when you order food, even though it's extra work for them. Given that this place is surrounded by box stores and chains, it's the best meal/ coffee spot I've found in this part of Midcity. There are some nice food spots a few blocks up the road passed Rouse's as well.

Stopped by this magical little-known mid city shop on a random sunday bike ride and was pleasantly surprised! The outdoor seating with the clever mod chairs on the lifted deck are what pulled me in but their pastries had me staying around for a bit! We split a bagel, which was not one of those 5 lb, preservative packed, lumps of dough, it was light and crispy. But the toaster takes forever when you're hungry. My husband loved his iced coffee, but I was not so much a fan of my soy chai. I found it to be kind of watery and weak. This was not on ice, as I could have sworn I ordered, so the watery came from something else that wasn't so tasty. However, I was excited to see the lunch menu, I'm a big fan of paninis. Those tables outside are perfectly spaced, arranged neatly on the corner, waiting for my return with a giant appetite and book to read!

I've been here two times so far. I came the first time with the friend just to meet up and I kind of liked it but I didnt feel as home here as I do at a couple of other coffee shops in the city (Zotz & FairGrinds... I'm looking at you). I don't really know why cause it wasn't very far from where I was living at the time (off Esplanade) but it just didn't vibe with me as much. I was a lot happier the second time I went. The barista (she told me she's new) was really friendly and I ended helping her pick up a bit at night since I was the last lagging customer (and there was absolutely NO PRESSURE for me to leave, which I liked). I got green tea with milk added honey (which I almost NEVER do) and I liked it enough. I can't say I remember if I like their coffee or not (see 1st trip). The barista recommended me all of the bagels except for one (which was something we joked about) and the one I ended up going with was excellent. And even though I haven't tried any of their panninis, I'm definitely very tempted to and appreciate the fact that they do seem to have a decent menu for a coffee shop. This place is probably good for meeting friends but better for doing homework or reading book. They do have some nice, comfy couches which I appreciated and I also liked some of the local artwork they had around the place. I like how spacious it is and the artwork in the restroom. I think I may have to follow-up on this place because I feel 50/50 about it. I feel it could grow on me or get to me. So, Bean Gallery... I'm watchin' you...

For being within a two-minute vicinity of three big-box retailers on a six-lane street, place-wise, The Bean Gallery manages to be very nice -- leafy, great porch, and with a living room-esque interior. Coffee-wise, the drip coffee's good. The iced coffee's served in a styrofoam cup that's intended for hot coffee. Feels weird to drink. Not very tasty either. Five stars for place, three stars for coffee.

Great study spot if you don't want to run into anyone like Barnes, the library, or starbucks! The coffee is great, nothing too special, but it's nothing terrible. The only problem I have is the random "study" groups that come in and sit in the middle of the place and talk really loud for the entire place to hear loud and clear about their personal problems. There are tables outside for that. Especially if you're not going to do anything but sit and talk about your problems for a good 30-60 min straight and then leave. But other than those rude people, it's great!

Not being a coffee drinker, I view coffee houses as a place to remove yourself from the routine of life and reflect. Bean gallery provides that type of atmosphere with just the right mixture or inside/outdoor seating, tables to study or lounge chairs to read, quiet studying or din of inane chatter, and the occassional streetcar sauntering by that so defines living in new orleans. The baked goods are always tasty and they have a good selection of teas to help warm the soul. Plus, its walking distance from my home (so much for the break of routine)

I like coffee shops. I study at them. I work in them. I hang out at them...way too much. I spend tons of my hard earned cash on coffee shops despite being able to brew a perfectly good cup at home. I consider myself a conniseur of the coffee shop. Bean Gallery disappoints me. Bean Gallery has terrible coffee. It's watery and lukewarm. The espresso is likewise not tasty and is expensive. The workers seem lost as to how to make a good espresso. The tea is good albeit expensive. The barista charges seem to be completely arbitrary. I don't think I ever pay the same price twice here. The cafe has many tables for studying and people turn it into a makeshift office during the day. In the morning there is a large crowd of regulars. They basically yell at each other when conversing. I've never heard people speak this loudly! One of the worst offenders has a dog that either smells terrible when he brings it inside or barks outside. The regulars usually yell to each other about local politics and news stories in the daily paper. I think it's really inappropriate. I think the regulars believe it's kitschy and cute. At night there are several tutors who meet with students on the big table. This can be a bit uncomfortable to be around and the tutors are loud. The shop features an array of used books that range from "Basics of Mechanical Engineering" to "A Guide on Planetary Leadership." The internet is so-so. It's not a bad place for study but it tends to get really loud. The morning and night regulars are pretty obnoxious about their decibel level. One of the biggest complaints I have about BG is that it's so dirty. Flthy!! It walks the line between yuppie shop and hippie shop, taking the worst of both worlds. Obnoxiousness and uncleanliness. The bathrooms scare me. I've seen worse, but these are just not acceptable for the caliber of shop this should be. The sanwhiches and food are pretty bad. They are delivered fresh daily but the quality is low. Ordering a sandwhich here made me regret not eating at one of the many other options nearby. Parking is all along the street. It's actually a little bit dangerous to avoid cars flying down Canal Street or turning down the road alongside the shop. The road by the shop is very narrow with cars parked on both sides. Cars turning from Canal are forced to speed across onto this street and go far too fast by the parked cars. Thus patrons exiting their cars in this area are in real danger of being hit. There is not a good solution to this problem other than avoiding parking on that street. I do like the mugs that are used in the coffee shop. But they are a bit dirty and do not make up for the many deficiencies. To-go cups are, as another reviewer pointed out, styrofoam. Whatever. This place has many other things it needs to address before the cups! Overall this is a usable coffeeshop but I live nearby and will drive elsewhere if I can spare the time. This shop has the bones of being a GREAT place, but it disappoints as is.

Great place to study, chat, or just chill. They have delicious coffee, friendly staff, and a fairly substantial menu of real food options. Most coffee shops have granola, yogurt, etc., but you can get a delicious bagel with lox, panninis, and other yumminess to keep you satisfied. Keep up the great work!

Not my kind of spot, it was totally crowded and nothing on the menu excited me. I just sat with my party until they were done. Someone mentioned mediocre, yes, that is the word.

I keep returning to this place because it's convenient and I'm addicted to coffee so it serves it's purpose. It's walking distance from my house and has a little bit of outdoor seating. The coffee is not good. It's just not. When I get a cup of dark roast, it's weak and once I add sugar or cream, it doesn't taste like coffee anymore. The espresso is overly bitter and the barristas/barristers put way too much syrup when I order a flavored latte. It's also a little pretentious. I've had numerous issues with the staff for being rude or not willing to make my coffee the way I order it. It's like a library in there! EVERYONE is studying with a mac! EVERYONE! I feel like I can't sit down and have a conversation with the person I'm with without being stared at! It feels like being uptown, which I hate! So, whenever I go, I grab a seat outdoor and hope no one is smoking!

I enjoyed the coffee and the great location in midcity on Carrolton Ave. is definitely a plus! I would compare their coffee blend to PJ's and my wheat croissant was super fresh! I will be back for my adrenaline fix!

Although this will never be my go-to morning stop for coffee (I must have a PJ's iced mocha every day to get going, see my review on PJ's for more details) I do like the Bean Gallery for an afternoon or evening hang out. The PJ's that is down the street from this location closes early and they don't have great seating, but I suppose I should save my gripes for their review. The Bean Gallery has a relaxed vibe and feels very much like a neighborhood hang out, which I think is important when considering where to sit and write your Yelp reviews. The hot chocolate and chai latte that I've tried here were yummy and the baristas are friendly. They have outdoor seating which is great this time of year in New Orleans, complete with ash trays for all you smokers out there. Coffee and cigarettes do go hand in hand, after all. The Bean Gallery also offers a book swap, so you can ashamedly smuggle in your over-used copy of Twilight and switch it out for something more mentally stimulating, like Harry Potter. (Disclaimer: There is no guarantee that you will find Twilight or Harry Potter on the shelves here.) Parking is bit of a pain. It's all on street parking, on busy Carrollton Ave. or the side street next to the shop, so you have to be careful getting in and out of your vehicle. Another perk (pun possibly intended) to this coffee shop is the fact that it is literally 455 ft. from my house. My friend sent me her Google Latitude update while she was here a few weeks ago, which is how I know the exact footage. With that distance in mind, you should probably avoid checking in here if I happen to have a restraining order against you. Otherwise, I recommend the Bean Gallery for your caffeine and chill atmosphere needs. Bonus: Apparently you can purchase eternal happiness for $1 (in the tip jar.) Not a bad deal in this economy!

As far as coffee shops go, this place is OK. There are lots of tables but they are very close together. Whenever I go during the day, the entire place is filled with people working or studying (free wifi). I like that there are tables outside- if the weather is nice, I'd rather sit outside. There is a bookcase stocked with books so if you're not working or studying, check it out. The lattes are ok, the chai is nothing special; the selection of baked goods is random (literally- it is never the same). Everything seems a little too expensive for what you get. They have a frequent purchase card but only some of the baristas even bring it up. I've never eaten anything other than muffins or other baked goods but they have a nice little selection of paninis and other sandwiches on their menu. The sandwiches are not cheap but also not terribly expensive either, so I'll have give those a try sometime. I wouldn't go out of the way to go here but if you are in Mid City along the streetcar line, check out The Bean Gallery.

This is a perfect neighborhood cafe! I was searching for a place with food, coffee and internet (the trifecta), and this was suggested to me by a friend. I had a delicious portabella sandwich and latte, not too expensive. The ambiance is friendly, warm and cozy. Everyone is studying quietly, few distractions. There are lots of smaller sized tables perfect for a laptop and a cup of coffee for one or two people, a few lounge style seating areas, counters, and a large table for groups. Fantastic. Absolutely most importantly, they play classical music through the sound system. As this is December, I cannot emphasize how wonderful it is to escape the inanity of Christmas carols at every place of business that we all have to endure for the next three weeks. Thank you Bean Gallery for sparing us!!!

I've only been here twice, but the Bean Gallery is an awesome place to work or read. It's low-key, with interesting but not in-your-face music, good sandwiches, bagels + cute/different biscotti flavors, and every sort of seating option you could want -- worn-out old couches, booths, round tables everywhere, and seating outdoors on the patio. Because sometimes staring @ the wall is a far-superior view than picking the corner couch, where you can people-watch. I love the little fireplace and small library, and the low-key brooding intellecutal type The Bean Gallery seems to attract. If you're in the neighborhood and need a little hideaway to get your nose to the grindstone, The Bean Gallery will treat you right :)

Ok... so yes... it should be evident... I'm loyal to my hood. But who isn't? And all of that is irrelevant when you recognize how many coffee shops we have in our sit down, take a load off, and sip on something culture.... having a local coffee shop is just par for the course. The coffee here is tasty and they don't mess around with a weak cup (which is more than I can say for some others.... ahem... I'm looking at you cc's). Also.. the fact that they're not ridiculously overpriced (....pj's it used to be that I could afford you). And that they're not an international chain that's lost all of it's flavor to some bland overly sweet commericalized style (I am glarinf at you starbucks). I haven't made it round to the pastries, but I love their bagels. A friend that used to work at envie tells me they fly them in from nyc... I don't care, an everything bagel with cream cheese from there makes my Saturday mornings before our volunteer days.... and sometimes my off days too. They are tasty and crisp up very well and the fact that they offer 4 different kinds of cream cheese always helps out when I want to branch out but not too far.... I love the deck and the breeze it somehow miraculously catches. As well as the fact that no one minds when I bring the dog to sit with me out there and read a book. The couches and lounge chairs inside are comfy anf the variety of seating is great wether you're going by yourself or with a game/ study group. And lord help me but when I am feeling totally unproductive those bar seats along the wall totally help to kick my ass in gear. The staff has always been friendly and I love the tip jar moments of humor. And if you're looking to check out some new artists check out the walls, they feature someone new I believe every month. And the book exchange is one of my favorite things ever. I'm a voracious reader when I have a moment and my addiction to bookstores is bad for my wallet so I love being able to go trade in a book... especially since sometimes it forces me out of my comfort zone. Ps... went in the other morning to make a pit stop and hit up the restroom. They just painted the one farther back and if you're looking for the light switch it is well hidden. It's on you're right fairly low to the ground. Check out the streetcar painted in there... it rocked my world.

A small, relaxed little coffee shop. Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Comfortable. Big, plush, sofa chairs to sit in, if so desired as well as the standard table/chair combo that I find it more comfortable to write at. I often go here for meetings with clients because it's relaxed and quiet. And when I go here to write, it's got enough going on for me to let my wander occasionally when it needs a break. The coffee is good too and reasonably prices. Plus, they have juice, smart water and other drinks for when I've had my fill of coffee.

I am so glad that I discovered this place! I walk to The Bean Gallery occasionally just to relax with a good book and some great coffee. They have red velvet coffee, which is really unique and good. I am a big fan of their frozen and iced coffees and usually opt for their always awesome peppermint frozen coffee. I have never tried their sandwiches or anything, but I can tell you that their scones and brownies are awesome. My scones always taste like flour and are inedible. I never knew scones were supposed to be light and fluffy like they are here, and always despised them; now I know it's just because I suck at making them. The atmosphere is really chill. They have a little bookshelf for you to have something to read. They also have a little patio for you to sit on. Overall, a great place to hang out and relax.

Oh my goodness, another reason midcity is another amazing part of new orleans. I happened to have a day off and I live about 5 block from the bean gallery so after a quick book read at city park I decided to grab lunch. It being a coffee shop I figured a light menu would be possible of pre-made snaks and lunch dishes. I ordered the italian panini without the typical ham and olive oil it traditiionally comes with. It was beyond satisfying. Freshly made panini's and sandwhiches. You have the option of make your own bagel sandwhichs and a variety of bagels to choose from. Needless to say I will most definetly be returning. I would say however, the service was dry. Noticeably. Nothing to turn you away, but not as welcoming as a "starbucks" type establishment would be or a locally owned establishment should be. All in all amazing food, great coffee and a great atmosphere to read a book, study, or catch up on some private time. I loved it.

Sorry, anti-NOLA screed coming up here: What is with the freakin' styrofoam cups in this city?! Bean Gallery is one of the worst offenders, which is why I bring it up here. Really: on aesthetic, ecological, and customer service grounds it just sucks. There's really nothing like a nice cup of lapsang souchoung served in a foam pint glass, but that's what you get, even when you make it very clear you want it "for here." The fact that this place is very popular with the laptop crowd (which often means one cup of coffee= two hours of silent tapping) makes it all the more lazy, narrow-minded, and well, NEW ORLEANS that no one who works here can bother washing a glass. So, yeah, the actual cafe: it's not bad. It's basically a makeshift office during the day that serves lukewarm coffee. I'm sure it's nice and neighborhoody in the evening. Sorry again, vent ended.

I really like the bean gallery, they have a really cute venue. The seating is nice and the wifi is free with coffee purchase. Another plus is the outside seating. The coffee isn't the best in New Orleans, but by no means is it the worse, in fact I enjoy the atmosphere so much it makes up for the not amazing coffee. Another nice thing is the coffee punch card that you can share between here and their other cafe Envie.

Absolutely my favorite coffee shop in New Orleans. I will agree that the prices are usually different each time I come but it's usually a difference of $.10 or so. I'm not complaining. I like the frequent buyer program. I like that you can tip on a credit card. I like the food. The staff is nice. The place is clean and inviting. Wish they were open 24 hours but whatever.

Cute neighborhood coffee shop in Mid-City, right off the Carrollton streetcar line. Not one of the see-and-be-seen coffee establishments in NOLA, but if you live nearby, it's a good place to stop in and steal wi-fi. The building is really cool, too. It's a converted double, although they kept the fireplace in the middle. The patio is great when it's nice out those few days in the spring and the fall.

As I'm prone to distractions at home, I needed to find somewhere where I could get masses of work done that was comfortable and served amazing coffee. The Bean Gallery meets all my criteria and is within walking distance of my home. The servers are friendly, the drinks are delicious, and there is always a great selection of baked goods if you are hungry. The space is great and there are a wide variety of seating options including comfy couches and tables of various sizes. Be sure to ask for a frequent buyer discount card. I'm on my second already. My friends and I have purchased a variety of food and drinks and been happy with everyone so far.

My knitting group meets here once a week, which is great for me since it is close to home, but even if I didn't live in Mid City, I would enjoy coming here. Spacious with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, good coffee and tea selection along with pastries, bagels, cake, gelato and paninis. Serves as an art gallery (thus the name) with rotating local artists' work, and sometimes features live music in the evenings. The staff usually plays WWOZ on the radio or a decent mix of non-invasive tunes. Students come here to study, neighbors stop by to catch up with goings-on, and groups like mine convene to work and discuss. This is a very popular, laid-back spot perfect for grabbing a beverage before or after a day at City Park.
