Crab cakes Imperial were very tasty! Loved the fried green tomatoes!! And the bread pudding was really good as well! I will be going back to try the fried quail with Gouda mac'n cheese.

In town for mother daughter trip. Had to have a meat pie . Well we did and they were so good!!! Had a great and very cute waiter. Dinner was good we were happy and so on to our next stop!!! Oldest city in Louisiana!!!! Learned something new!!!!

I got the honey-glazed salmon with grilled asparagus and rice. It was terrible! The whole thing was drowned in a sauce that tasted like something out of a bottle from the grocery store. It was so bad I couldn't eat it. My husband got the crispy chicken florentine, which was really good. It came with some loaded mashed potatoes, which were also great. Thankfully, the waiter didn't make us pay for the salmon. The atmosphere is nice, and there's a good drink selection.

Really bad dining experience. I think they were short staffed in the kitchen because it took forever to get food and when we did you could tell it was sitting in the window for awhile. I got the shrimp and grits, which I believe said were creamy on the menu, the grits were firm and had little taste. I had to add a bunch of salt and pepper to get down. The shrimp were cooked well. My wife got the Grilled Gulf Shrimp, and they brought her the fried. She sent that back and when they brought out the grilled shrimp it was apparent they were only grilled on one side. She said it tasted like what you would get off the kids menu. Positives: decent beer selection and the atmosphere was nice. I really wanted to like this place...

We arrived shortly after normal lunch hours so the crowd was not very heavy. We were seated as we walked in and drink order was taken quickly and brought to us in a timely manner. We then ordered our food and appetizer and the appetizer made it's way to the table in good time giving us plenty of freedom to enjoy the appetizer before the meals arrived. We had the Shrimp and Grits and Fried Green Tomato BLT and both were very good. We also had desert and both of our selections were good as well. The price was very reasonable for the food served. I would recommend giving it a shot of you are in the area.

Some friends and I stopped in for lunch. The wait time was outrageous! BUT, the chicken was absolutely terrific. A fried chicken breast sat atop a bed of tasty garlic mashed potatoes and beneath a light spinach Alfredo sauce topped with crisp bacon crumbles. Yum! The portions were generous but not wasteful. The iced tea and sliver of lemon were a bit weak in flavor. It proved to be a distraction from an otherwise lovely meal. Opt for water. Bananas Foster was a DIVINE ending to the meal. Prep was entertaining and the rich sauce and fresh, firm bananas made the dish! The loss of one star was due to the wait and the inexperienced waiter. Staff was otherwise good and very accommodating. A return visit is definitely in order.

Whatever this restaurant once was, it is no longer. Inexperienced staff, extended wait times and an altogether apathetic vibe have transformed this place into a bottom-of-the-barrel Chili's.

I always love The Landing!! Key Lime martinis, meat pies, fried green tomatoes and the wedge salad with the homemade bleu cheese!!! My first place to go to when I hit town!
(5)Tonja M.
The food is very much enjoyable here. We tried the meat pies, crab cakes, fried green tomatoes, alligator and shrimp remoulade. Had the wedge salad and Cesar salad and a couple of drinks from the bar. Also ordered bread pudding and key lime pie. Joe was our server and I must say he has worked his fingers to the bones for us. His personality and work attitude is amazing beyond words! The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is top notch. It is cloth table dining, but we wore shorts and tshirts and didn't feel out of place in the least bit. We will definitely be adding the Landing to our 'must go to' every time we are in Natchitoches! Thanks Joe for the awesome job taking care of us!!!

After walking Front Street and shopping for an hour or so we needed a cocktail. The Landing is perfect, because you can grab a drink at the bar and take it to one of the tables on the street to enjoy watching the tourist and locals pass along the street.

the wife and I were driving south on I49, on the way to new orleans. saw the sign for natchitoches and I mentioned it was famous for meat pies. I wasn't expecting that she'd soon have me changing our course to new orleans so she could try these famous meat pies. trip to new orleans on hold, the wife searching yelps... directed me here. the meat pies were good! I mean, it's a natchitoches meat pie, I've had many in my life. never had a bad one.... but the landing also served up some delicious fried oysters and fried green tomatoes. prices were fair. we eventually made it to new orleans, and now my wife can confidently say she's had authentic natchitoches meat pies.

I went to the landing during the christmas festival on a friday night. I was very disappointed in the service. It took over an hour and a half to be seated when half the tables were empty. Our waiter was MIA most of the time. When I was served he handed me a very hot plate with no warning. The food wasn't anything special and it was pricey. I wouldn't go back.
(2)Jaclyn S.
I was disappointed. This has always been my go to place when in Natchitoches; however I probably won't be back. The food was bland and tasteless and the service was awful.

From Houston visiting family in the area. They took us to The Landing. I had the duck and grits. Duck was excellent with just the right amount of sauce. Grits were nothing special so the sauce was very helpful. When ordering our meal the waiter was very passionate about the special which was a pork loin with peach glaze which turned out to be more of a compote. It also came with a dish of chipotle mack & cheese. My wife and two others ordered the special. The pork was way over done...dry & definitely needed the smothering of peach compote. The "chipotle" mac tasted like Frito pie....good for a couple of bites but did not really go well with the meal. It appeared that they just dumped chipotle seasoning into the mac. Everyone that got the special indicated it was nothing special. The waiter upon asking how everyone enjoyed the meal extended a complement to our table for ordering the special. He went on to say that he most likely won for getting the most specials ordered. Needless to say....my wife was not pleased. Very poor service. Average food. Prices too high for the quality of food and service.

My sister and I were very excited about eating at the Landing. I will start my review by stating the two good things about this place: the meat pies and the crab cakes were delicious. Since I don't particularly like long reviews, I will try and keep this one short and sweet even though I feel like I could go on and on. 1. The service was terrible. My sister is the manager of a restaurant and went on and on about how terrible the service was. The girl was clueless and made mistakes from messing up the order to not refilling our water to not bringing a pen to sign the credit card receipt. These mistakes were made and we were her only table! 2. The food was not worth the price. I ordered the seafood pasta which was unbelievably bland and the shrimp were over cooked. I didn't even eat half of it (and I'm an eater!!). I paid $17 for my horrible pasta. My sister paid $15 for two tiny (but delicious) meat pies and a tiny bowl of dry jambalaya. The crab cake appetizer was a reasonable $8. The Landing was the most expensive place we ate on our entire trip to Louisiana and it was by far the most disappointing. 3. Our table was right next to a walkway that the servers use to take to the kitchen I'm not picky about where I sit but the floor was extremely sticky and every time a servicer walked past us, their shoes would make a horrible sticking sound. Not pleasant. In a nutshell, I would highly recommend spending your money elsewhere. I hear there are other meat pie places in Natchitoches that aren't near as expensive.

Oh, The Landing, I had such high hopes, but you let me down. The service was outstanding & the ambiance was pretty good, but the food.. How can you serve famous Natchitoches Meat Pies AND crab cakes that are not made in-house? Your bacon wrapped boudin is very good, and your sauces are great, but, I'm so disappointed in your entrees. Honestly, I feel like you owe me an apology, after dropping $90 ($105 w/tip) for food that wasn't made in your restaurant. Maybe my expectation were just too high?

On my road trip last week, I stopped in Nachitoches, LA to have a quick lunch. This place was surely an eye opener. The menu was far from anything I would normally order. As I looked over the menu, I read "fried green tomatoes." Other options I read were: Oyters, meat pies and fried alligator. I had to order the sampler because I was intrigued by the choices. Therefore, a little bit of everything seemed like the right choice to make. Everything was delicious, even though my health conscious was screaming, "don't eat all that fried food!" My taste buds weren't upset. Very nice ambience at The Landing.

Changing my once 5 star review to a 1 star now. Ever since they changed up the rice side dish several years ago, we have not been back there since. The rice pilaf was very tasty and paired well with the mahi mahi we always had with it. Dirty rice?! PLEASE!! They could have at least served both. We went from eating there once a week to never. I know one person won't change their mind, but I can at least review them.

Went here because of a recommendation and when we sat over a dozen employees walked past and did not greet us or even take our drink order. Needless to say, we walked out without regret.

Was there for their Sunday brunch in early November and the food served was just heavenly! Alaskan king crab legs, oysters and prime ribs were the headliners. The food was very good! The service was impeccable! The ambiance was warm and very classy. All around great dining experience. Highly recommend The Landing to anyone who loves good food and outstanding service in a beautiful and warm setting.

I'll keep this review simple and quick: The food and service are great! I had the crab and the wife had the fried oysters. The oysters were probably our favorite. The only thing I thought could have been better were the rabbit hush-puppies. The batter was great but where was the rabbit?? I was told that they use a food processor on the rabbit....I found some in the hushpuppy but not enough to want to purchase it again.

Service Food and Drinks are good. A little more creative menu would put them in the League.

Average food, average setting, above average prices. Wait staff is friendly and accommodating. Drinks stayed full, and with our family of five, that is a difficult task. We started with an appetizer sample platter. The meat pies were okay.. the filling had an odd slimy texture. The flavor was good, if you could get past the texture - my kids couldn't. Fried alligator was good, and not at all chewy. The fried green tomatoes were crisp and tart. My husband and i each ordered a side salad. I can not say that iceberg lettuce swimming in dressing, plated with one slice of cucumber, one cherry tomato, one black olive, and three croutons was worth the additional $3.50. I ordered the catfish oppalusous, which was a fried (grilled or blackened were also options) catfish fillet on a bed of white rice, topped with crawfish ettouffe. The ettouffe was a little bland, but the catfish was perfect. The kids shared the alligator ettouffe, and definitely got full, with a lot of leftovers to take home. Our bill totaled $99 for four soft drinks, an appetizer, and three entrees. I've definitely had better seafood for that price. We took our leftovers, and the waiter asked if we'd like a bag for our boxes. He promptly brought out a standard brown paper bag, which, by the way, did not fit the to-go boxes.

My daughter and I stopped by at noon on a Friday after leaving two other restaurants that were overcrowded due to the lunch rush. There were few customers at The Landing, with only four other table being occupied. The atmosphere was sedate. There was no loud music to talk over. Our server was attentive and pleasant. We both ordered from their lunch menu. I chose grilled shrimp and my daughter selected alligator etouffee. The grilled shrimp was served with cole slaw and french fries (although I substituted onion rings), while the etouffee was served on a bed of rice with a side of cole slaw. I was very disappointed in the grilled shrimp. Normally, a lunch size portion is 6 shrimp. At The Landing it is only 4 shrimp (medium shrimp, not very large). The cole slaw had an unusual flavor that I did not like. The onion rings were thick slices of fried onion and tasted just OK. There were four of these, too, but, due to their size, that was plenty. The alligator etouffee was decent, but not terrific. Normally, etouffee is not a real spicy dish and this was over-spiced in my opinion. I would not chose this dish in the future. I felt that the grilled shrimp was overpriced, but the etouffee was reasonable (since there was a large portion). This was my third trip to The Landing, but will probably be my last. The dishes are overpriced for the portion size. I can get food of equal or better quality at some of the other local restaurants, or prepare a better dish at home.

We went for lunch on a week day which is a pretty safe (i.e. slow) time to visit this historic city. The restaurant has nice decor that seems to be outdoorsman meets 18th century Louisiana. There is iron fencing throughout that you might find in the garden district in New Orleans or other historic cities mixed with fishing and outdoor pics and memorabilia along the walls. I got the tuna sandwich which was not cooked as consistent as I would have liked. They cut the sandwich in half when plating and half of the tuna was medium well while the other half was well done. My mom got their version of the BLT and enjoyed it. I did like that they weren't too pushy. Usually lunch places assume you are in a hurry and get you out the door quickly. We told our waiter that we were just walking around the city and he wasn't too pushy.

The Landing personifies Natchitoches, Louisiana hospitality and cooking! The Landing overlooks The Cane River off Front Street. Kent Gresham, the Chef & Owner of The Landing, is the son of the famous American Writer, Sportsman, Outdoor Sports Photographer & Journalist, Grits Gresham. The dining room @ The Landing is filled with Gresham's photography & paintings. We decided to beat the dinner crowd and eat an early dinner @ 4:30 pm. We were able to walk around the restaurant and look at all the memorabilia and photography that fills the walls @ The Landing. It's Amazing! We ordered the Crab Artichoke Dip for starters.....Absoloutly Delicious! My husband ordered the chicken / alligator gumbo....very good! We both ordered Kent's Ultimate Filet Dinner.....an 8 oz. Filet served atop a bed of Garlic Mashed Potatoes & Creamed Spinach topped with Bernaise Sauce and surrounded with Fried Shrimp (Husband had fried oysters).....cooked to perfection! We didn't have any room for dessert but they all looked yummy. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The Dining Room is beautifully decorated w/ South Louisiana decor..... intimate and romantic. We look forward to dining @ The Landing the next time we are in Natchitoches.

Ate here in June, it was just barely ok. Place was not very busy on a Saturday night, which was a signal to us right there (other restaurants on the street were packed with people waiting outside) but we didn't want to wait. Seemed overpriced for what we got. On the appetizer sampler tray the fried green tomatoes had no flavor, the shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were cold and very spongy like they had been soaking in water for a long time. Overall the place just seemed tired and in need of some cleaning and sprucing up of the decor and the kitchen/menu.
(2)Angela F.
I loved it! We got many recommendations from locals. The gator tail Ettouffee is a bit too tomato-y, and the batter on the alligator was spicy. It was a great meal and we had great service from Deann.
(4)Tim R.
Service was excellent here - real southern hospitality. Food was great and cocktails were good (but a bit expensive). Very happy to have made this the first place to eat in Louisanna.
(5)Christopher R.
Day trip and late lunch. Food is ok and this is one of the better places to eat in Natchitoches.
(3)Shanna B.
I enjoyed the Crab Cake Imperial and would recommend it to anyone anyday. But that was the only thing I would ever order. FYI - it was half lump/half imitation crab for all real crab price. From the other people in my parties, the meat was always overcooked, and the other dishes were mediocre. The sides were all canned- big dissapointment for the prices you paid. I would have personally never gone for dinner, when lunch was way overpriced. Service was molasses slow every single time. Don't go if you are hungry right then, or if you have somewhere to be afterwards. The staff was also kind of snooty. "Like - we're 'The Landing', I don't have to treat you with respect."
(3)Stephanie G.
So delicious! The fried green tomatoes are scrumptious and the Catfish Opelousas was absolutely amazing!! I also recommend the bread pudding! Great service too!
(5)Chelsea W.
From beginning to end an absolutely fantastic experience! We started with fried green tomatoes served with a slightly spicy ranch dipping sauce followed by our amazing entree of Catfish Opelousas and ended with an amazing bread pudding with meringue and rum sauce. Shout out to our knowledgable, friendly and attentive server, Aimee!

During our annual trip to visit Sarah's family in Louisiana, we decided to stop and have Christmas Eve dinner in old town Natchitoches. The traditional place to have this dinner is The Landing, which is a beautiful little brick restaurant right over looking the river. I tried the famous Natchitoches Meat Pies, which were delicious, and Sarah had a bowl of gumbo. I took a sip, and boy was it flavored nicely!
(4)Tonya R.
Very good food. I had the Crabcake Hurricane, and it was divine. My husband, who doesn't eat any seafood, had the Kent's Ultimate fillet ,and he very much enjoyed it. The sampler platter on the appetizer menu was a great way to taste many of the local specialties for one low price. This place really is nice enough to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, but it's casual enough to take you kids.
(4)Aaron W.
I really like the look of this place.it's very nice inside.steak I had was great need more side options though.had to settle for fries.I will be back.
(3)Mrs. G.
8/6/13 - A little late to post to yelp, but.... Stopped by and ordered some blackened alligator to go, just to try it. It was delicious! Will definitely be returning for a full meal at some point.
(4)Rusty S.
Don't come here expecting good cajun food. The crawfish etoufee was touted as "some of the best" on yelp but I found it to be subpar. Not enough rice, tails too small, not spicy enough. The fried green tomatoes were too greasy and did not taste right. The gator tail was extremely salty and also extremely greasy. I was not a fan for the expense. The service however was good, wine selection and beer selection also good.
(2)Margaret E.
Located on the Cane River. Serves traditional Southern and Louisiana cuisine. I stopped for lunch at around 12:45 and was seated immediately at a table surrounded by Southern Louisiana decor. I had the 4 oz salmon with clarified butter served on the side, dirty rice and broccoli with hollandaise sauce. For dessert I had chocolate silk pie. The salmon was a bit dry. The broccoli was slightly overcooked yet delicious as are most vegetables prepared in southern style. The dirty rice was mild in spice and big in flavor. The chocolate silk pie was every bit as good French silk pie I remember from childhood that was once almost ubiquitous in southern restaurants. Overall a good experience. Seems like a great place for tourists and locals alike and had me wishing I could bring my friends from out of state to experience the atmosphere and share a fun meal.
(4)Ray C.
The service and food are excellent. Prices are very reasonable. The seating is somewhat limited, but it is worth the wait. Try the blackened Opelousas catfish. Moderately spicy and delicious.
(5)Heidi K.
We decided to eat at the Landing after perusing almost every menu on Front Street. At first glance, the menu looked very thorough and the food was very reasonably priced. All three of our meals were incredibly tasty and we definitely enjoyed our meal! I got the catfish with crawfish etouffee on top (I forget the name) and it was some of the best catfish I have ever had. The only reason I only rated it a 4 was because the vegetables were a bit heavy on the salt and that our waiter-in-training kept screwing up our orders. However, the waiter conducting the training did comp us a dessert for all of the other guys screw ups. If you go to this place, YOU MUST ORDER THE BREAD PUDDING! I'm not even a huge bread pudding fan but this was truly an amazing dessert!
(4)Anne S.
We had dinner this week with very poor service and inconsistent food. The waitress was new and tried very hard, but clearly had not been trained well. I believe the kitchen did not prepare the four meals to be served at the same time, with no sauces for the fried shrimp dinners when they were set on the table. The side dish of steamed broccoli was totally over cooked and gray. When I calmly spoke to the manager about our problems he commented that the restaurant was changing hands and they didn't have some of the needed ingredients . He did comp our two salads, but should have been more attentive to the numerous problems we encountered. I would wait awhile for them to get their act together.

This was the first place I had lunch in Natchitoches. All I can say is GOOD STUFF!!!!
(4)Tim V.
Louisiane chicken, salmon, key lime pie and bread pudding was excellent.

Perfect spot for Christmas Eve dinner. Best key lime pie I ever had. Excellent steaks and great service.
