Wow! I can't believe I passed this place for years without ever trying it! The second you walk in, you can tell it's going to be good. It looks extremely old school; they probably haven't changed much since they opened because they have perfected one things, and that's serving good pizza! I had the supreme, and although it was a little pricey, it was well worth it! The beer on the other hand was cheap! My friend and I split a pitcher of Abita Amber, and it was only $8 for the whole pitcher! It's hard to find a single beer for that price at many restaurants. Back to the pizza though, it was incredible! Perfect ratio of toppings:cheese:sauce, and the crust was crispy, flavorful, and slightly chewy, excellent! Going somewhere like Pizza Delicious, you get a more eclectic selection of things, but you have to remember, this is an old school pizza joint. They are somewhat different animals. Tower of Pizza definitely has them beat with their sauce and crust. Sometimes sticking to the basics is the best thing to do. The only reason I give Tower of Pizza 4 stars instead of 5 was because of my takeout experience. The pizza wasn't quite as good with takeout (I don't think that's really their fault), but the takeout salad was HORRIBLE. It was doused in dressing, to the point that the lettuce was completely wilted. They definitely either need to give the dressing on the side, find a new container to use, or something, but it has to change. I'd recommend dining in for the best experience.

I miss the old location in New Orleans. This was a large part of my childhood. It was the first place I ever tried calamari. I also loved the old arcade games they had. It was a fun spot for family and friends. The location in Metairie is about as close as you're going to get to that old feeling. They still have the original menus hung on the walls, and there is an arcade game in the back. The pizza is as good as I remember it. The service still has that family feel, like everyone working there is probably related. No chain restaurant service, just good, neighborhood pizzas.

All pizza starts with a good crust. This place has a great one. Plus fresh ingredients and you can watch Pizza being made right in front of you. This is probably one of the top pizza places I've had! I would suggest only eating in because it will be very soggy if you take it home.

  • Victoria S.

Personally, not a huge fan. Salad was over-priced and pizza was decent. They only keep one to two waitresses for an entire restaurant so good luck getting that coke refill, BUT said waitresses are very nice, good service for when they are able to get to you.

  • Dana D.

Solid pizza with quality ingredients sets this place apart from the meals on wheels pizza chains. The sausage loaded with true fennel flavors and cheeses that taste freshly grated not poured from the bag processed crap. My only complaint is that the toppings are REALLY sparse.

The place is so nice and family friendly. The menu is so easy and the pizza is so good here!

Enjoyed the pizza thoroughly. This was the second time ordering Tower of Pizza within a couple weeks. We decided to go with a large pie, half cheese, half Canadian bacon and mushrooms. First, the size of the large pie was plenty enough for 3 maybe 4 people. We asked for extra sauce this time. Not that they didn't put enough on our recent order, but we are big fans of extra tomato sauce on our pizza. Tower of Pizza puts just the right amount of toppings, not too much, not too little. The cheese was slightly greasy. You can probably tell in the photo. However, it wasn't too bad. The crust is pretty thin on the pizza and is foldable like a slice in NYC. It was cooked well with a little bit of char. I've never dined in, but when picking up the pizza, I felt when I went inside I was going back in time. And that is a good thing. It's a small place and they have a window where you can see your pizzas being made. Also, there's 2 arcade machines in the back that also kind of reminded me of my childhood. The menu is not extensive and the pizza isn't cheap (over $20 for the one large pizza we ordered). However, this a great place for pizza in Metairie. I would easily recommend Tower of Pizza over Rotolo's and others around.

  • Mark B.

Hey the Mark Special, triple Italian sausage! Great homemade, hand tossed crust, old fashion pizza ovens, delicious red sauce, and perfect cheese. Strictly a classic style pizza parlor.

This is a pizza joint in a Metry strip mall that has been around awhile and is many folks favorite. It isn't my favorite but they do make alright pizza here. This is a popular family spot and this spot draws a consistent clientele but I've never been here when its been packed. Other than pizza the only other items available here are salad and spaghetti. If you find yourself in Metairie and in the mood for pizza this is one of the better choices in the suburbs but there is better pizza to be found in the city. Tip: If you need Saints gear you can combine your shopping experience at the Black & Gold shop with your pizza experience as Tower of Pizza is in the same strip mall.

Oh I was so disappointed. I hadn't had T of P in years and someone said, Hey I had Tower a few weeks ago and it was great. So I did a takeout run and got a meaty pizza and a veggie pizza and a salad. First the salad-- it was a soggy mess like it had been sitting in its chinese food container in the kitchen for an hour. It was gross. As for the pizza I'll start at the top and work my way down. The toppings were not bad at all and they were plentiful. The sauce was too much and too red and too ....raw? Something weird. The crust was thin like I like, it but no flavor and just not crunchy. No one at our table was impressed. Tower is a perfect example of what the food explosion in NO has wrought. Pizza D, Domenica, and Ancora are now the standards to beat. And an old favorite like Tower, which has traditionally been highly regarded, has been left int he dust.

Ordered takeout one night following a trip to Black & Gold during which I experienced the aroma of the place. I could not get it out of my mind. We ordered a large pepperoni and the Italian tossed salad for 2. The pizza was good but not as good as it smelled. Perhaps it's better when you dine in. I still prefer Slice. The salad, however, was fantastic! Already tossed together in a delicious, herby and salty dressing that I, ashamed but not really, drank the remnants out of the to go container. I could eat a bucket of that! Rather curt on the phone, but it was prime time on a very cold night, so they were probably just busy. The place was packed and my dining companion (2 year old) was thrilled to watch them making pizzas.

Absolutely the best pizza in New Orleans!!! EAT HERE!!! The pizza is as good as some of the best I have had in New York.

  • Rollie R.

I've been eating at Tower of Pizza for over 30 years, and I still think it's the best pizza in town! Great family atmosphere, casual, and also great for takeout too. Make sure to call an hour or more ahead during football season bc everyone is picking up for the games. Best artichoke salad with anchovies, great dressing too. Pizza is thin and cheese and sauce is on point! Nothing has changed over the 30 plus years, bc why change perfection? I used to always order the meatballs and spaghetti when I was younger, but I'm more particular about my pasta as I've gotten older, lol. If you haven't tried Tower of Pizza, you should definitely give this Metairie icon a try. You can't beat the consistent food and family like staff!

    (5)
  • Amanda M.

We have eaten here once and gotten carry out a few times. The pizza is consistently good. The crust is just the right thickness and the toppings and sauce always taste good and fresh. The salad is simple but very tasty. It's better in the restaurant than it is with take-out because it starts to get a little soggy but I just love the dressing! This is probably my favorite pizza spot in Metairie.

Good pizza, really awkward place to dine in. It's like eating in a church.

  • Sarah P.

I'm from New York and this is one of 2 places I have found that are closest to ny style pizza (the other being Brooklyn boy).

  • Pamela A.

Years ago we fell in love with Two Guys from Italy. For many years were were left longing for a pizza place to fill the void. This is the place where you can find the best hand tossed pizza, Italian salad that is more than enough to split with 3. You can't go wrong with any pizza from here. It's a definite favorite of ours!! Love Love love it!!!! When you choose to go, make sure to bring either cash or local check, credit cards are not accepted.

    (5)
  • Tiffany M.

We have dined in and had take out from here and, after two chances, are just not really impressed. The menu and pricing are fine. I think having a limited menu is great, if it means that you are rock solid on the items that you do offer. The problem is, there just isn't really anything spectacular about it. The dough tasted like it's made from a mix and the sauce is a bit bland, but heavily applied. They do a fine job with the toppings and the typical pizza joint environment, but there's just no love in that pie. Maybe give this place a try- but then go to Slice or Reginelli's.

  • Katie L.

This place is a staple for a regular pepperoni pizza! The pizza is made right in front of your eyes and it is a true gem. My family and I have been going there for years and it never let's us down.

    (5)
  • Katy K.

This is my husband's favorite place and since my favorite is gone Post-K, I guess I have adopted it as my favorite as well. It's a true pizza parlor. I only wish they would expand their seating.

    (4)
  • Steph M.

I like this place. It's a little out of my way, but it's good when I'm in that area of town like we were this weekend. It's always really busy, so expect a bit of a wait, especially if you want to eat in. They only take cash, so be prepared for that also. The pizza is good. We had a half pepperoni and half canadian bacon with mushroom and the toppings were great. I could actually bite into a mushroom and taste it...yum.

    (3)
  • James L.

My only other old school childhood favorite, and still a pretty good pie after all these years. One of the best pizzas on the gulf coast, and one of the few pizzas that I'll eat beyond my capacity.

    (3)
  • Jay G.

A very good pizza place. One of my favorites in New Orleans. Pizza is average, but salads are amazing!

    (4)
  • Jason W.

How is it that most locals haven't heard about this place? And then when you do tell them... "Wait...I have to go out to METAIRIE?" Sigh. Tower of Pizza serves some of the best pizza in the city, hands down (Full disclaimer: I also really like Theo's and Rocky's, so judge my opinion based on that fact). It's a New York style slice, so if that's not your thing, you best be movin' on. There's surely a Pizza Hut down your street that would love your business. Kids love this place as well, due to the large window that allows the little tykes to watch their pizza get made, dough in the air and all. CASH OR LOCAL CHECK ONLY. You've been warned.

    (5)
  • Erin A.

Oh Tower, where have you been all my life? Discovered you here on Yelp one day while in Metairie running errands, and what a fantastic discovery your were. Old school pizza joint, with your menu on the wall, your jukebox, open kitchen where you can watch your pizza being made and friendly staff, I love you! While I'm not versed in the specific attributes of what makes a New York or Chicago pizza, I can say that as a Louisitexacalifornian that Tower is just good! Vegetarian and the Tower Special plus the Italian Toss salad have yet to disappoint.

    (5)
  • Kris A.

I love how you can watch them make the pizza. The artichoke salad is awesome. Kids have been playing Pacman in the back corner for as long as I can remember. Pitchers of beer or soft drinks are available. Great juke box = great atmosphere. Pizzas are thin crust and delicious.

  • Eileen Z.

Three words sum this experience up. I've... had.... better! This is a tiny place that seems to draw a "regular" crowd. It's like the Cheers of Pizza places. Most everybody knew somebody in here. There is a handful of tables and if you happen to have your back facing the wall with the menu on it, it makes it very difficult to order. The menu? Pizza and spaghetti with sauce or meatballs, and 3 salads that are a combination of lettuce, artichokes and tomatoes all with the same dressing. That's it. Nothing bothers me more than a waitstaff that makes you feel as if you interrupted their day by showing up and then they have to wait on you. That pretty much describes the waitstaff here. Unless you are a family member or friend, then you get GREAT service while your waitress ignores the rest of the restaurant. The pizza? Well, the tagline of "Meh. I've experienced better." for two star reviews pretty much describes it. They brag on their wall menu that everything is fresh, and yes it is cool to watch your pizza being made... however, there is nothing special about the almost $30 pizza that you are about to eat. The sauce is good and well balanced, the crust is a New York style, and the toppings are... ok. This place is super pricey for pizza and pasta with sauce and meatballs, get ready for a $40 check. I blame Slice Pizzeria for ruining me for all pizza places in this city. I don't think I would ever go back here and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone that I particularly like to try out. I would tell them to go to Rotolo's across the street because as least you would get better service and a more flavorful pizza. Let me elaborate by saying Roltolo's is average but in my opinion its better than this place. Shame on all of you who rated this place above 3 stars.

This place is a blast from the past with wood paneling, a jukebox and arcade games. We went for lunch on a weekday and they were not busy at all. Maybe 3 or 4 tables. It wouldn't hurt to spruce the place up a bit. I get the old timey menu boards, which is nostalgic. The plates were worn and scratched. The pizza was OK, but I've had better. They have a very small menu. Pizza, salad or spaghetti, that's it. The toppings that you get to choose from are pretty basic. The service was fine. The crust seemed very average to me and was not too thick or thin. It didn't have a whole lot of flavor. They really need to get those pizza racks for the tables instead of putting the pans on the table, which takes up all your table space. The pizza was a little on the greasy side to me. The sauce was good. A medium is 6 slices and a large is 8 slices. So much more they can do to improve the experience (pizza by the slice, small individual pizzas, more choices for toppings, have appetizers or sides, desserts) to name a few. The silent dining room does not make for a very pleasant atmosphere. Not having a website is a HUGE fail!

This place is fantastic!!! The only down side... They do not serve iced tea... The Italian Salad is consistently the best I've had in the New Orleans area.

    (4)
  • Jay L.

Pizza is decent, but i'm giving them 3 stars because there aren't any sides. C'mon no wings or anything? That sucks!! If you're looking to have pizza and wings, this isn't the place!

A friend of mine suggested this place for a good pizza and salad. I was out shopping tonight and decided to call in a to go order and see what was up. It took about 20 minutes for my pizza and when I got to the restaurant it was ready to go. I thought the crust was nicely done, not too thin and not too thick. Thin crust is my preference, but this crust seems like it will hold up nicely to more toppings. The pizza was good and reminded me of my favorite home town pizza place. I will definitely order from Tower again.

Its funny, when I lived in NOLA I rarely went to Tower, but my brother and Sister-in-law are big fans, so we always go with them. Tower is a fairly consistent 3.5-4 pizza place for me. Service - always friendly, fast and just very good. Now to the pizza, since I like to keep it simple -we went our usual 1 topping Canadian Bacon. its an odd topping in that it wasn't readily available in Connecticut or Alabama. Topping - good job. Good flavor. I miss this topping. Crust - now ToP is usually a solid 3.5-4, but this night, it was better than usual. It was fantastic. If this had been the only time I had been there, 5, but I know better. Sauce - always solid, good, not great. 3 for me, but tonight, it was a little better. Strange. Cheese - excellent job on the cheese, just enough browning to make it perfect and it had a nice pull. Well done. We later found out that tonight's pizza maker was one from the weekdays (I rarely go there during the week), and an old-timer at that. I'd almost call ahead to find out if he was cooking if I remembered his name. Menu - silly the menu is on the wall. Have another one on the other wall.

I have been thinking of trying this place for a while, and I finally took the plunge today. It's conveniently located on Veterans, near Bonnabel. I ordered the pizza for carry-out and picked it up on my way home from work. My pizza was finished by the time I got there, a little under the 20 minute estimate I was given by the woman who answered the phone. The window that shows the cooks making the pizzas is a draw and certifies that the pizzas you buy here are fresh. It's definitely more expensive than Dominos; I paid about $14 for a medium pizza. However, if you're buying for two, that still means you're paying $7 per person for a dinner that is, in my opinion, much better and supports a local business instead of a giant corporation. I'm a stickler for sauce, and Tower's sauce didn't disappoint. It was a simple sauce that went well with the cheese that they use. One of my common complaints about pizza places is that quite a few don't cook the pizzas long enough for my taste. I didn't have that problem here. The crust was also good, the right combination of crisp and chew, and not so thick that it overwhelmed the sauce and toppings. I was happy with my quick service and the quality of ingredients. I'll definitely order from here again. My big complaint is that they're not open for lunch on the weekends, when I'm at my laziest.

Hands down best pizza in the greater New Orleans area! I grew up in New England and know traditional NY pizza and this is as good as any NY pizza I've ever had. I even love their salad.

    (5)
  • Steve M.

The best pizza in town. Great tossed salad for starts. Crowded at times and decor straight out of the 70's don't distract from some seriously good pizza.

  • Michael K.

3 1/2 stars. Tried this for the first time. Got an extra cheese and supreme. The extra cheese was pretty good but I would hate to see what regular cheese looks like because there wasn't much extra cheese. They supreme was better and I would probably stick to their specialty pies if I return. The crust is thin and pretty good. $32 for a large extra cheese and medium supreme so I would say about average for pizza prices. I saw a Yelp review that said they are cash only which is not true.

Was in town for state swim meet with my kids and we decided to eat at TOP on our first night. The location is great. Really small place. Maybe 20 tables max. Limited menu but food was great! One of the best tossed Italian salads I've ever eaten. Two sizes of pizza - Med and Large. Kids got pepperoni. I got the Supreme. Food was delicious. I am a tea drinker and they don't have it so that a bummer.

After hearing my wife and her bestie talk about this pizza joint i wanted to try it out. So i stopped on a late night there were a few after me so it wasn't really close to closing but the place was more then half empty. My wife ordered a salad, it looked good but the veggies could have been chopped up some, wife made a mess trying to cut it up. It was cool watching the guy make the pizza behind the glass wall, he kept spinning and stretching the dough. We decided to get a split pizza one side meat lovers, the other supreme. The lady that took our order was extremely nice, it didn't take long to get our food, first impression the pizza looked great, but could have used more meat for a meat lovers. The pizza was great, had a nice crisp but not burnt, lots of cheese like i love. I filled up on two slices and kept the rest for lunch the next day. When i got the bill and it was nearly $40 i was like HOLY F*** thats high for one large pizza and a salad. I know we got it split with two kinds of pizza but it didn't say anything about being charged for the price of two full large pizza's. I didn't want to argue so i tipped 20% and left. The overall experience was good and the pizza was good but not for $40 i could have gotten 4 pizza's at dominoes or something.

MMMMMM I love pizza. The best part about this place is that you can watch them as they prepare your order. It is all fresh ingredients! The wait staff could be a little bit faster and actually bring you refills when you ask, but other than that I always have a good experience when I dine here!

  • Tiffany B.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I haven't lived in New Orleans/Metairie for 15 years, but every time I come home, I catch up on eating real food by eating here. The place never changes, and I LOVE that. The artichoke salad is sublime and the pizza......mmmmmmmm, the pizza. My favorite combo is pepperoni, black olive and mushroom, but even a plain cheese beats every other pizza I have ever eaten, hands down. (Sorry Chicago and sorry New York!) Throw in the juke box and you are all set. I cannot wait to come home, again!

  • Eric E.

Limited menu...pizza and spaghetti, but they don't pretend to be anything else and it's VERY good!

  • Scott H.

Hard to decide which is better, Tower or Mark Twain's on Metairie Road. They both are five star pizza joints in my opinion. Yeah, you could get a cheaper pizza at one of the two big chains, but why would you want to do that? My favorite here is the all meat pizza. Great atmosphere has kept me coming back here over the years. If you like pizza, you'll love Tower! Be warned, they do get busy at times and you may have to stand while waiting for a table to become available.

So my wife and I were sitting at the children's school waiting for them to be dismissed and we were trying to figure out where to eat pizza since we both live in Houston. So I decide to google best pizza in New Orleans and Tower of Pizza comes up with 73 reviews. We read quite a few and decide this is the place. When we arrived the place was exactly what I had hoped for it specialized in nothing other than pizza. Checkered table cloths and the smell of pizza all around. We sat down and the waitress met us promptly and got our drink order and I asked did they have a menu. The waitress replied "it's on the wall". I looked up and she was right it was posted big as day. I got excited because it was pizza, salad, and spaghetti end of subject. Not a bunch of appetizers and extra stuff that nobody needs to order when they want a great pizza. We ordered a large pizza with pepperoni, black olives, extra cheese and 1 small italian salad. The salad came first and man they knocked it out of the park. It was a basic italian salad with great dressing and artichokes and it tasted exactly how I would want it to. Then the pizza arrived and "Wow" it looked amazing and smelled incredible. Large pizza cut in 8 slices and looked like a thing of beauty. First thing for me is always the crust and one bite in I knew this would be one of the best pizza's I would ever have. Bottom line is this is a pizza place doing pizza right. I know now why they don't carry a bunch of other menu items and I hope they stick with what they do best and that's make the best pizza in town. Can't wait to go back!!!!!!!!!

It started bad when I placed my order on the phone. I guess the waitress was having a bad day. It got worse when I picked up my order. The waitress was just plain rude. As far as the pizza goes, it was only average. I was expecting a great pie to make up for the lack of customer service.

Oh GOSH WE LOVE TOWER PIZZA - one of our favorite indulgences! We always get the Salad - mmmmm - & the Vege Pizza which we just LOVE!! It has a nice crust, not too much sauce & yummy vegges!! Wait staff are great too!! :-)

  • Michael S.

Some people swear by Tower if you like a plain traditional pizza this might be the place for you. It's always busy. It's a very classic pizza place, menu on the wall, thin pizza and not a lot of frills. The meatballs are pretty good but if you like different kinds of pizza you might try Pizza Florence or Italian Pie. If you really like the traditional stuff this might be your place but it isn't mine.

Great pizza, family friendly atmosphere, ok service, but my biggest gripe is they don't take credit cards. I don't like to carry cash and if these guys took cards I'd go there more often.

  • Josh U.

It had been awhile since I last at the Tower... One my last visit we enjoyed a great pepperoni pizza. This may be the best traditional pizza shop in the New Orleans area. They serve lunch now too.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations.
