The Galley does not have curb appeal but please don't let that fool you! It's a small establishment and it's nice to be able to see the staff and clean kitchen working. We started with the spinach, crab & crawfish dip. The dip was creamy and tasty. The chips are homemade, my husband likes them but I would prefer them to have been more crisp. Our entrees came with a dinner salad and its your basic iceberg salad with out any flavor or uniqueness to it. The blue cheese dressing was thick and delicious. I observed a table order the Caesar salad and the presentation looked lovely. I should have ordered that! My husband order the crawfish étouffée and moaned through his entire meal because it was so amazing. I sampled it and it was very flavorful. I ordered from the specials menu: shrimp & crawfish Amanda with a side of fried catfish. The dish was a creamy cheese sauce with pasta. It was basically a rich mac n cheese. Heavy and comforting. We were both so full we couldn't attempt to try anything else. This is my husband's second time to the restaurant. If we ever travel back to LA we shall return again!

The day we visited, they were short staffed so the service was terrible. The people who had a dude as a server did great. But our waitress was not interested. We ordered a few apps and she kept asking us if that was all. To the point where she came back to our table two times to see if that was all we wanted. When we assured her that YES, that was all we wanted, she lost interest in the table and didn't come around to refill drinks or anything for the entire 30 minutes we were waiting for our apps. I had to ask for lemon 4 times before she finally brought some. People were constantly asking where she was because she would disappear for long periods of time and diners were left with no drinks or no food. If we had ordered 3-4 courses, I would expect we'd be there for 12 hours...And still leave hungry. While the food was ok the prices were premium. Not sure if it is because of their local clientele or what, but the food is almost good though the prices belong somewhere that serves MUCH better food. P.S. They had fish tacos...$18 bucks! Nuts.

Fantastic. The food was great and the wait staff was superb. Grilled trout with homemade mac and cheese, grilled red fish topped with crab and shrimp, huge boiled shrimp, and crawfish. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. I definitely recommend this place.
(5)Lydia L.
The fried food is good. The boiled seafood just ok. They served it warm with very little seasoning. The staff is pleasant.

I'm from Cali so I'm always asking locals for recommendations. I was recommended this place by a guy getting his hair cut while I was getting my hair done. He said it was the best crawfish anywhere with his nice West Bank accent. That all of a sudden had me craving some! That's where I headed after, picked some up to have at home and me and my girls tore them up. They were seriously delicious!! I had "the best crawfish in Baton Rouge", these were even better!!

To Justin M from Seattle, really? You didn't see the big tubs of boiled seafood? And you just blindly ordered seafood without finding out if it's fried or boiled? We go at least once a week. All the staff is terrific. You just have to read the menu and ask questions if you've never been there.

Looking for seafood, poboys and creole dishes without having to deal with French Quarter tourist traps? If you have a car, or you don't mind paying cab fare, you're in luck, as Galley Seafood ( thegalleyseafood.com ) is just a 15-minute drive, both from the airport (enjoy a meal and wind down from your flight on the way into town) and from downtown New Orleans. Location aside, there are two reasons to eat at Galley Seafood: the food is tasty and authentic, and the clientele is local... and I mean "the-neighbors-stop-by-for-supper-on-their-way-Âhome-from-work" local. In the 35 years I've been traveling to Louisiana to fish, enjoy music and other entertainments, and eat, I've occasionally asked my local friends, "Where do you go to eat boiled shrimp, crab and crawfish?" and I've usually heard the kind and frustrating reply, "My back yard." Galley is exceptional among the few establishments that do offer boiled seafood, in that they do so seasonally, rather than import scrawny shellfish to accommodate the off-season desires of out-of-towners. The boil is right. Not too spicy or salty, with a touch of lemon. But if you crave something else, try a soft-shell crab platter; a huge, lightly-fried trout or catfish poboy; or a bowl of rich, homemade crawfish etouffee. Just promise me one thing: that before you order, you'll take a look at the daily specials; my guess is that your order will come from that list. So, the location is good and the menu offers various delectable choices. Is it any wonder, then, that Galley mostly draws folks from the neighborhood? On a recent Thursday evening, my fishing buddy, Keith, and I were seated in the back dining room, next to a large table occupied by three families, including Moms and Dads straight from the office, kids and their friends, and at least one set of grandparents. The owner, Vicky, took time to visit with the big table, and with us, making sure we were all happy and comfortable, and that we all knew what was for dessert. It was like eating dinner at Miss Vicky's house. People usually say that when they travel, they like to eat where the locals do. In New Orleans, if you haven't been invited into someone's back yard, the next best thing is Galley Seafood.

The food was O.K. But, the price is ridiculous. Softshell crab plate is 30.99. It is not $$ restaurant's price. And they charge sausage, corn, and potato about $5 each with boiled seafood. I don't think I will be back again.
(2)Chad M.
Listen!!!! DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE! food is not good at all and it is so over priced. You will get charged $3 for a coke and no free refill. My ticket should have totaled to $58 with proper math but they made up new prices and my end total was $94.00
(1)Jamaal W.
One of the top 3 seafood restaurants in NOLA area. Family business, very authentic, and very fresh.
(5)Carrie S.
Awesome select crawfish! They started off seemingly under spiced, but after sucking a few heads it crept up on me. Pricey for boiled, but it is a restaurant setting and it was select crawfish which were huge and full of fat! Old school style place with homemade lasagne which was really good and fried chicken too.

I may not be a native New Orleanian, but I'm from Louisiana and I know good seafood. The Galley has good seafood. Best I've ever had? Probably not. But plenty good. Let's start with the most important item: boiled crawfish. It was kind of a mixed bag here. Most of the crawfish were pretty big, which is obviously a good thing. And they were seasoned nicely. I wouldn't mind a bit more spice, but they weren't bland. They were, however, not particularly hot. They were warm, which means by the time we ate half of our order of 8 pounds they were pretty much cold. And they were a little on the expensive side at around $5/lb., if I'm remembering correctly. But overall, they were good. We actually started the meal with some seafood gumbo, which was also quite flavorful, if not particularly spicy. And we sampled the oysters as well -- both chargrilled and raw. I'm not a huge raw oyster fan and I only had one or two, but I will say this: they served us some BIG oysters. Probably the biggest I've seen around town. Now, big doesn't always equate to good, but in this case they were. I just prefer them chargrilled -- it's a texture thing, I think. We also had some boiled shrimp, which were quite large as well. I didn't have many because I was so focused on the crawfish and beer (Abita Strawberry - yum). The service was very nice and the night we were there it was pleasant out, so we sat outside, which is the best way to enjoy crawfish, in my opinion. I liked The Galley a lot and will keep it in mind for seafood going forward, but there are other places I want to try as well. AMENDMENT: The company I was with was top-of-the-line. Five stars, easily.

Good seafood? You, bet!! Good Italian food? ... Better than you could ever imagine at a seafood restaurant! The marinara sauce that accompanied the eggplant appetizer and Veal Parmesan entree were mouth - wateringly delicious. We came here the day after thanksgiving because my older brother was in town from California and wanted some seafood from his old neighborhood. We had been here a couple times when he lived in town, but we don't seem to make it to that neighborhood often anymore. Fortunately, the place hasn't changed a bit. The waitstaff is very attentive and I love the ambience. It reminds me of the seafood restaurants that used to be on the water by the old coconut beach volleyball complex. It is homey and inviting with great food at very reasonable prices. One of my pet peeves is not having my water glass refilled. Not a problem here - they bring you huge drinks!
(5)Jessica S.
For a truly authentic, local, Louisiana seafood experience you must go to The Galley. Boiled, fried, or steamed the seafood here is top notch! Order the crawfish of it's in season, you won't be disappointed! Weird tip: rub lemon and salt on your hands to get the crawfish smell off, then rub them on the aluminum sink in the back... Oddly enough it really helps
(5)Leah F.
The food here is glorious! They are kinda pricey but it's worth it! They aren't very good for groups because it's such a popular restaurant. I will be back here again!
(4)DC M.
KILLER SEAFOOD!! The Galley is a local favorite spot for tasty seafood. My personal favorites are the boiled shrimp and crawfish, which is a specialty at the Galley. The Gumbo and crawfish étouffée are a treat as well!! I live in California but always make the drive here when I'm in town. Well worth the venture out to Metairie.
(4)Rhonda G.
The boiled seafood is soooooooo good! Can't go wrong here. Always fresh and hot. The other dishes are ok too. I'm not a fan of fried food so I really can't comment on that. The place is packed during lent. Crawfish are a tad pricey but worth it.
(5)M d.
Very good seafood! Fried softshell crab poboy is the best and is a hit at Jazzfest. Ms. Vicky runs the show and knows how to serve customers great food in a fun atmosphere. It's a local restaurant but draws from New Orleans, too. Boiled, fried, or grilled, everything is great. The catfish poboy is also one of my family's favorites. They also have delicious specials. My son says the roast been poboy is one of the best in the city and that's saying a lot!
(5)Bonnie R.
A regular go-to spot in my family's neighborhood. Always good! Today we had the onion rings, a shrimp salad & 1 lb of boiled shrimp with "veggies" (other stuff thrown into the pot when boiling): sausage, mushrooms, potatoes, ear of corn, etc. Delicious as usual! Forgot to mention the wonderfully spicy cocktail sauce for the boiled Seafood. Tasty addition to boiled shrimp.
(5)Vu N.
At $5.49/lb. for boiled crawfish, I thought it was on the expensive side (for New Orleans). But it was totally worth it. Flavorful seasoning and juicy! The best part was the juice from the boil. Great service. The restaurant closes at 9, I came at 8, and my waiter still offered me more crawfish even after the kitchen and restaurant closed. They are real hard workers there. Only downside is the surcharge for using credit cards and not allowing multiple checks.
(5)Kathy G.
Looking for a new place we ventured to the Galley. Great food, casual, and busy on a Friday night. The grouper special was excellent . Sides of broccoli and new potatoes great too. Combination platter was also great.
(4)Katy B.
We came here on a weeknight because it's in our neighborhood, and I was curious about it. We probably should have stuck with the boiled seafood. The crab cakes and soft shell crab with crawfish sauce I had were pretty bad, I barely ate half of it. My husband got fried crawfish and french fries and they were decent. The highlight of the meal were the crawfish hushpuppies. Probably won't be back unless I'm desperate. Server was helpful, I should have noticed that everyone around me was sucking crawfish heads and gone with that :)
(2)Arielle N.
The galley has great food, and is usually an awesome experience, but the last time I was there I was a little disappointed by the service. Our waitress forgot to bring out a salad and some crab claws. Once we got the crab claws sorted out, they were incredible. The salad was still on the bill. I hope for better service next time because this is a classic favorite!

Ok. This places gives 3.5 star service and 4 star food at 3.5 star prices at a 2.75 decor. So I'm bad at math but I love the food soo much I wanted to hit the 4 star button. Then I thought about the food. It's mostly pretty simple and straight forward. Now I'm not saying that in a bad way. Nor have I judged it as of yet. Simple isn't bad unless it's executed poorly. This place does just the opposite of poor execution. -The fried food is fried perfectly. Easy to do...also easy to screw up. -the boiled food is boiled perfectly. Seasoned perfectly. Perfect consistency. Same as the fried...equally easy to pull off well or screw up royally. I have had some device issues on booming nights but nothing that couldn't easily be forgiven. I feel obligated to mention that there have been issues because I know that some of you have done yourself the injustice of NEVER working in the food service industry. If you had to wait for your iced tea, butter, and check for a few minutes I know you'd have a melt down. That's a shame. Meditate. Get laid. Have a drink. Read a website about food and calm the hell down. Enjoy the galley. Don't go when it is too late because they will be crowded. If you're starving and a whiney guest, you'll hate your life. If you're at the galley and awaiting your table with some time to kill, check out my websites. Or not. That's totally fine. I don't mind. I won't judge you (ya lazy bastard...ya already read all this so you clearly like what I have to say...just give it a look) Nolachef504.com Nolachef504.net Email me at Mike@nolachef504.com Follow me on twitter... Guess what my twitter screen name is... Go on... Take a guess @nol... I'm not telling you. If you can't figure it out I can't be friends with you. If you email me or follow me or check out the websites and like any or all of it, let me know and you will get free food when we open a restaurant up in NEAR YOU! Thanks for listening to my ramblings. I'll be yelping more now that I'm eating in restaurants more and less at work! Cheers.

This has to be some of the most authentic, best-tasting seafood I've ever had. First dinner stop on a weekend stay in the Big Easy, popped in (we were told there was no need for a reservation), was promptly seated and served. Had the meat pies and onion rings for starters..delicious! Then red beans and rice which comes with fried catfish. The fish was fresh and delicious, the red beans and rice perfect. Also tried the corn grits (can't rave enough about those) as well as the Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious. This hole in the wall will be my first stop every time I come down to NOLA.
(5)Shannon S.
The boiled and fried seafood here ranges between a three and four star experience. This place is also noted as being the folks that bring you the soft shell crab po boy during Jazz Fest. The ambiance is pretty plain and standard Metry with the service being friendly and attentive typically except when it gets really crowded which is often. The thing that knocks many people for a loop here are the prices and it is expensive to eat here typically. As an example during a recent lunch visit I got the seafood platter with a soft shell crab, seafood gumbo and iced tea which resulted in my bill being $46.64 before tip. That is quite a chunk of change compared to the prices at most other seafood joints in the city where you could've engaged in some substantial alcohol consumption before getting your tab anywhere near that. Now I will say the seafood platter is plenty of food for at least two people to eat and many other places have kept their prices lower but greatly reduced the quantity of their food. As a general rule you will often find a bit of sticker shock for many items here and can often get comparable food at better prices at many other places. The fried and boiled options are usually always done well and if you're willing to put up with the premium pricing and often crowded environment you can satisfy most of your seafood cravings here.

First time eating crawfish and this place gave me s great experience. Definitely will recommend this place to everyone.
(5)Dale R.
Quaint, great service, excellent food, mid ranged prices, be there before 6pm or after7pm very crowed, but the wait will be worth it!
(5)Emily W.
The crawfish was very good and the seasoning of the fried food was decent. They make a killer Long Island Iced Tea
(4)V H.
DO NOT GO HERE FOR BOILED CRAWFISH! At about $10 a pound, you can find them elsewhere cooked better and with sides. They came out freezing cold. Completely unacceptable. They don't have to be steaming hot, but gracious, it was as if these things were kept on ice. I didn't even finish and felt bad about it, but I was legitimately grossed out. The kicker - $10 a pound and NO potatoes or corn. Nothing. Just ratchet, cold, over boiled crawdads. Service was meh at best. Not sure if the waiter was extremely busy or if he just didn't care that I had asked for a glass of water. Never asked us if we needed anything after delivering the food. Never asked why I had only eaten half the crud on my plate. Way too pricey for what it is. Better seafood can be found elsewhere for sure.
(1)Christina T.
I'm from Atlanta and decided to try this place based on the good reviews. I went during Mardi gras weekend and they were out of crab which was disappointing, but I tried some other items. The boiled crawfish was only 4.99 a lb and they were huge. The boiled jumbo shrimp were delicious, but at 14.99 not worth it my opinion. The grilled crabcakes were awesome, and the waiter recommended.above the regular fried ones. The flavor of the boiled seafood is a good balance and not overly spicy. However, I wish they provided melted butter to dip stuff in. The restaurant is pretty small, so expect a 15-20 wait. The waiter said they are always that busy.
(5)Sara U.
This is the kind of place that has a very family-owned feel and probably serves a lot of customers that live right in the neighborhood and are regulars. We felt the food was very good. The boiled shrimp were large and delicious - some of the best I've had since living in New Orleans. I didn't care for the macaroni side dish as the noodle were long and kind of weird for macaroni, but my dining companions really liked it, so it's just personal preference on noodle-age there. Though this is a seafood restaurant, my bf was in the mood for the lasagna and it was actually pretty delicious. I heated the leftovers up and ate them for breakfast today. Ha! The reason that I'm not going with 4 stars - I feel the prices are quite inflated. $3.99 for a Miller Lite and $4.50 for Abita - albeit you get a SUPER nice frosty mug with your beer (Abita Purple Haze tastes THE BEST in a frosty mug) these prices are just a little high. Most of the entrees seemed to be around the $20 mark. I'm not a stickler for prices because I love to eat great food and I think if you aren't spending most of your money on the basics, good food and good shelter, what they hell are you spending it on? But here they did jump out at me as being noticeably higher than comparable restaurants. I do appreciate that this is likely a family-owned restaurant and they have higher costs for higher quality seafood. I can accept higher prices for the food but don't gouge people on alcohol. There are so many great competitors in the city that I probably wouldn't drive to Metairie again to come here unless we happened to be in the area. Additionally, you cannot pay with separate checks and you must pay with only one credit card. I know credit card surcharges suck but this is 2013 and most people use credit cards!
(3)T J.
The food is okay and overpriced. My main concern and the reason I will NEVER go back is the owner. SHE must be the most miserable, unhappy person I have ever encountered. She should not be the face of the restaurant. She needs to hide in the back and have NO interaction with customers.
(1)Alison M.
Catfish is dynamite! Soft crab was a huge hit at our tabke. Can't go wrong with the mac n cheese, hush puppies, loaded artichoke, fried and grilled crab cakes. Margaritas are delicious! Service is above and beyond exceptional!
(5)lin h.
This place is at LEAST 4 stars. It is more like 4.5 stars. Everything was way above average and our server was excellent. Super friendly and helpful. We got the crawfish, crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn. the large crab was huge and weighed like a brick. Every single item was perfectly boiled and tasted amazing. Trust me, i've been to like 20 different seafood boil places and this place and Cajun Seafood tops them all. The boiled items is just in between mild and spicy. Perfect. Will definitely bring my out of town friends here for seafood boil.
(4)Cristen F.
I want to like this place a lot more than I do as it's fresh seafood close to home. But, it's never been spectacular. It's also pretty pricey for such a casual place. However, I've never had anything that was BAD and the service is always good. I find that I am happiest with a fresh fish dish over anything else here.
(3)Damian K.
What a great place. A group of us got there about 6 pm on the first Friday of Jazzfest and were lucky enough to grab a table for six of us. Their boiled crawfish is second to none. The seasoning was perfect, as they didn't skimp on the spices. If you like the crawfish at Schaefers (sp?) or at Mid City Yacht Club (when they have it) then you'll love The Galley's. Also, The Galley's specials are genuine, I watched them erase three items when they ran out. Luckily enough we were able to chow down on six of their hot tamales before they were rubbed off the board. They were spicy goodness. There is not doubt when I get to New Orleans again later this year, I'm coming back for some great food in this wonderful place.
(5)Megan G.
Wonderful place which is second to none! I had the fried tomato salad with remoulade dressing and it was WONDERFUL! I also tasted my mom's crawfish étouffée and it was also DELISH with a unique taste. We will definitely be coming back in the future!
(5)Justin M.
The food here is very good. My issue here is the price was high for fried seafood. My waiter never disclosed to my that they don't fry everything so I ended up with a fried mess instead of what I really wanted which was boiled or fresh seafood. He then tells me that that's how everyone eats it in the south. That's fine but at least disclose and have these options on the menu don't make me guess or question if I have to have fried or not. Now I'm pissed off and highly dissatisfied. I then called to complain to the manager and the guy on the phone gets highly defensive and says I should have know. I said no, how about putting it on the menu or explaining to those of us who are not from the land of the deep fried. I wouldn't be this upset if I hadn't spent nearly $50 with tip for something so dissatisfying and then having the waiter say oh by the way you could have actually had what you want but I failed to mention it to you and it wasn't on the menu. Thank you so much for completely pissing me off and ruining my night. Perhaps putting this on a menu might prevent this from happening again.
(1)Harrison L.
The Galley has a very causal, family atmosphere and is a popular seafood spot in Old Metairie. The service there is always very good, too. I like the Galley's boiled shrimp, crawfish and crab and usually order them to go. The boiled seafood is always done just right with the right amount of spices and not too salty. Their fried artichoke heats are very good and come with a tasty dip. I have tried their poboys and the soft shell crab poboy is great and a must if you like soft shell crab. I also like their shrimp and grits and charbroiled oysters.
(4)Sid P.
The best boiled seafood venue in the New Orleans metro. You can get the crayfish or shrimp with the potatoes, corn, and sausage as an appetizer or for your entire meal. There is a full menu with gumbo, soup, po boys and complete meals, all prepared to order. The flavor is so good. I had trout almondine and it was excellent. You may have trouble ordering dessert because you are so full. You can even dine outside in coveted seating
(4)Dominique H.
The Galley- oh how I love thee! Whenever I have guests in town looking for somewhere to go for great seafood, I always suggest The Galley. Tucked off on Old Metairie Road, away from the commotion of the city- this restaurant is as good as it gets. The boiled seafood is my fave! There aren't many restaurants you can go to and get boiled seafood that tastes like it came from the hole in the wall seafood joints. The prices per pound are very reasonable and the seafood is seasoned to perfect. If you order the crawfish- you will def need some tissue. The fried seafood is great too. They use just the right amount of batter to not overpower the food. All of the New Orleans staple dishes are finger-licking good- but my fave is the jambalaya. When I go, I prefer to sit on the covered patio. It makes me feel as if I'm sitting in my aunt's backyard :)
(5)Reg H.
The Galley serves up rather ordinary fried food in a fishing-camp setting, and they charge Brennans prices for it. I guess the owners assume that people living in old Metairie will pay for the convenience of the location on Metairie Road. Be that as it may, the place is packed most of the time, so perhaps they assumed correctly. I have taken out-of-town guests there several times only to be disappointed and embarrassed at the average quality of the food.

Saturday evening we were trying to find a place to eat, and being new to the area had no idea where to look. My husband saw this place online and we decided to give it a shot. We both ordered the catfish tacos, my son ordered the popcorn shrimp, my mother in law ordered the red beans and rice with catfish and my father in law ordered the seafood combo. We also ordered chargrilled oysters and frog legs for an appetizer. Everything was amazing! I was skeptical about the tacos because I always heard you're not supposed to eat cheese with seafood but they were so delicious. The oysters were the best I've had! The service was excellent. Everytime my daughter had to use the restroom the gentlemen working there jumped up to hold the doors for us. Very great service, will definitely be going back!
(5)Tamia G.
Wonderful "newbie" treatment by Andrew, who explained the menu & specials & even made a fab cosmo while I awaited a soft-shell crab po boy! The soft-shell crab was lightly fried and served in a crusty loaf of French bread. Since the tomato was quite thick, I'd recommend against getting it dressed. otherwise, absolutely fantastic and worth the trip!
(4)Michaela A.
I can't count how many times We have visited The Galley. The seafood is so fresh, tasty and delicious. The fried catfish is awesome, the shrimp salad very good, fried shrimp and fried oysters very good too. Surprisingly, the lasagne is terrific too. Service is always friendly and efficient and we enjoy the casual atmosphere.
(4)Nikki F.
We were in town for a wedding and had to pick up a tux in the area. Once again YELP came through for us! My maiden name is Galea pronounced Galley so we HAD to try this place. We had our goodies steamed. Shrimp, crab, boiled potatoes and sausage. We loved every bite. We even ordered an extra crab (which was perfect!) We both loved the food and were surprised that they also had good wine. We will go back here for sure. The staff was great, the food was great, the wine was great and I got an awesome T Shirt to commemorate the memory!
(5)Rodney D.
I am addicted to the Soft shell Crab Po Boys at Jazz Fest. For me, its like a One-A-Day Vitamin. My additives include melted butter, hot sauce, pickles and lemon juice.
(5)Whitney J.
4 Stars because I'm a fan of their boiled seafood. If I had to rate their non-boiled seafood aka menu items, I would give it 2 stars because their menu items are: a) nothing but cream, b) nothing but cream with some cream sauce c) fried with cream sauce and served with a side of cream. I bet they would fry cream if they could (and cover it with CHEESE CREAM SAUCE!) I was pretty disappointed in their menu items because I would have figured that a place with such incredible boiled seafood (and an outstanding rep with everyone) would have "regular" food down. Eh, not so much.
(4)Melissa R.
The best boiled shrimp and crabs ever!!!! We ate there Friday night and the food was great as well as the service... My family ordered a stuffed artichoke, crab claws and a seafood platter it was AWESOME !!!!!!!! This is one of my favorite restaurants.....
(5)P H.
RUDE GREEDY WOMAN OWNER! The boiled seafood is over priced. The owner is rude and uninterested in anything except counting her "tickets" and collecting her money. She allowed a group of out-of -towners on July 4th weekend to literally yell and scream boisterously for one hour straight. It was impossible to hold a conversation at our own table. In spite of three requests ( to host and waiter) to hold down the noise and disruption of a usually quite meal, the owner did not ever say a word or try to control the noise. She then said, "I am not going to tell those people to stop." We are regulars weekly, but she insulted us for even asking to keep the noise and boisterous behavior under control. She said she was afraid of "those" people. She would not control her restaurant. She is SO cheap that she only scheduled TWO waiters on July 4th weekend -- on evening of July 3rd. She is greedy and uninterested in service. She said that she had to go count her tickets. Not once did she even think about apologizing or explaining that she was afraid to say anything. She is out of touch with her business and is only interested in her MONEY at the expense of her patrons. Not worth the money . There are over 1400 restaurants in New Orleans area, why go to this one to be insulted by an owner who wants to charge exorbitant prices for crappy service. Lets open competing caring seafood restaurants along Metairie road -- we deserve it. She can count her tickets as they dwindle.
(1)Ron C.
This is a nice place. Good seafood. Lots of choices. I like it.
(4)Alex G.
I love coming here once crawfish season rolls around. This place is tiny but it's always packed! They usually have soft shell crab when I go which is one of my favorites. I took off one star because I think it tends to be overpriced but I continue going back to get my seafood fix!

Awesome seafood restaurant!! I love their po-boys (oyster, catfish, shrimp & the absolutely deeelicious soft-shelled crab), seafood platter, fried catfish, fried shrimp, stuffed shrimp & gumbo. Great service. A little pricey for some items but it is great quality food, well worth it.

Plump, tasty large boiled shrimp, plus hot boiled crawfish. Perfection. Next time I visit The Galley I will sit and eat dinner (got the boiled seafood to go for a quick indulgence right before Endymion today). A great stop in Old Metairie. 4 instead of 5 because I thought the shrimp was slightly overpriced.

If you give this place anything than 5 stars, you don't know good food. Period. Yes, their specials are a little crazy sometimes, yes they can have a heavy hand with the cream sauce. But every time I leave this place, I am beyond satisfied. I was there last weekend and had a fried soft shell crab, on top of a crab cake, topped with crawfish cream sauce. I called it the kitchen sink special because they basically put everything on the plate, but the kitchen sink. If you've been to Jazzfest you know they put the soft shell crab po-boy on the map and the staff and waiters are always on top of their game and down to earth. LOVE the Galley!!

Will be back to complete review when I have more time. Notes: crab cakes, crawfish hush puppies, shrimp & grits, grilled redfish w potatoes and broccoli, house salad, gumbo, bread

I think this is the type of place that people from outside of Nawlins wish they could go to when in the French Quarter...but I don't think most find it. We came and had the hush puppies, crab cakes, oysters, boiled shrimp, crawfish, and crab. The crab cake was the highlight of the appetizers. Plenty of meat in it, and not all breading. The boiled seafood had a nice spicy flavor, with the shrimp having the spiciest flavor. They seem a little over cooked for my liking, but were still very good. The crawfish were cooked to perfection and the crab was delicious. I would recommend this place for a visitor seeking a table full of spicy seafood.

After hearing good things about The Galley, we decided to try it out for ourselves. It's a casual little seafood place located in Old Metairie. Their menu claims that they have the best soft shell crab poboys around. My boyfriend and I are not very fond of soft shell crabs, so we opted for other things. We split the gumbo, the stuffed crab plate with macaroni & cheese and the Galley Burger with sweet potato fries. He loved the gumbo. I found it to be a little too slimy for my taste, but it was alright. We ended up liking the Galley Burger the best. Kind of funny... A restaurant known for its seafood has one of the best burgers around! I kid you not though! Check out The Galley and get their Galley Burger with sweet potato fries. It was excellent. Oh.. and the macaroni & cheese was really good too...

Terrific. Although my pal, a native, said 'a little peppery!" but for me it was perfect. Got the crawfish boil. Got the oysters. Incredible oysters! Salty and wonderful. Got the broiled oysters. Out of this world. Got the shrimp. Just basically ate and ate and ate. My pal got a bourbon pecan pie. Wonderful! My bread pudding was the hit of the night. Swell people, great place, we'll be back!

Had the Hush Puppies (good) and Crawfish and a Soft Shell Po-Boy (Fantastic!!) - I'll come back for that again!!

When it comes to seafood, I am very picky but this place is one of the best in Metairie and always consistent. You can't beat the quality of their dishes. It's kinda pricey but you don't mind paying when the food is fresh, which it always is there. There is usually a wait time for seats during busy hours, especially the weekends but it's well worth it. Excellent, spiced boiled seafood especially the crawfish :) Yummmy. They don't over-batter their fried seafood either which is a very good thing, and all their sides are also fresh and delicious! Nice ambience and they have a lovely outside patio. Nicely tucked on Metairie Rd.

crayfish were 5.50 a pound, prob the most expensive in the city but you pay for what you get. the seasoning was good with a fresh taste and select (big) size the gumbo was slimy like other reviewers but not terrible. the drinks come in huge plastic cups and the prices overall were a little high but everything seemed high quality. we sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful day

Very crowded and the tables are very close together but workable. We had fried shrimp, soft shelled crab poboy, crab cake appetizer, and a lot of other things I don't remember. Everything was very good and the service was good. The only issue was if you order the crab cakes don't order the stuffed crabs. When they brought the stuffed crabs after we had the crab cakes they tasted and looked exactly the same. In fact we questioned the waiter as to the possibility of a mistake. We were quaranteed the the order was correct. Since we couldn't see eating the same thing twice (they couldn't convince us that they weren't identical) they were kind enough to change the order to fried shrimp instead. Fantastic. The soft shelled crab poboy was great. All in all I have had better but this was worth the high cost.

The crawfish & boiled shrimp are to die for! Wonderful & friendly service ! Nothing bad to say about this place! My wife & I loved it ! Atmosphere is A1.

My second visit. I had the Grouper special and it was over done. This was surprising as I enjoyed my first visit a month ago and had a different fish special. Many people had fried food or craw fish. So maybe I made a bad choice but a seafood restaurant should be able not to over cook their special of the day, I will find somewhere else next time when I am in the neighborhood.

Granted, the Galley does have high prices, you get what you pay for. I usually get the boiled crabs, which are plump and well seasoned, but not too spicy. The crawfish are usually a good size too, but I think they could use a little more spice. It's a casual family atmosphere. They do get crowded, but you can make reservations in advance if you know you're planning on going. I went this past Ash Wednesday about 7:00 with a party of 5 and waited less than 15 minutes. Not bad for the biggest seafood night of the year. The staff is friendly and helpful.....and the young male waiters aint bad looking either!! This is my choice spot for fresh boiled seafood in the city, and I live 2 blocks from Frankie and Johnny's

I love The Galley. I had my first boiled crawfish of the season there tonight. The flavor is wonderful--anything that leaves my lips tingling from spice is awesome, in my opinion. The boiled crawfish, crab, and shrimp aren't on the menu, but it's their specialty, so order it. The crawfish are large and the abitas are large...what more can you ask for?

Great po-boys and meat pies. Not a fan of several of their non-po-boy entrees. Still, I enjoyed coming here for the pies and poboys alone.

I normally am not the type of guy to leave a bad review, but this is well deserved. My wife and I just recently moved to N.O. From New Jersey. We decided to try some local seafood fare. I ordered the red beans and rice with fried catfish. No complaints here. My wife does not eat seafood , except for crab cakes. She ordered the crab cakes and Alfredo. The cakes and Alfredo tasted fishy like maybe there was some cross contamination going on. The inside of the crab cake was mushy and literally disgusting. She took two bites and I took one. We had told our waitress the problem and she got very defensive. She said that she has been serving them all night without complaints. She grudgingly agreed to take them off. We received or bill and were shocked by the total. We added everything up and could not figure out why there was a $9 difference. We bought it to the register and they went back and forth with me about the crab cakes. Even going as far as saying a gulf blue crab is completely different than a new England blue crab. I just shook my head and agreed to take the hit. We were also charged the $4 for the ridiculous salad that came with her meal. They got 1 star because my plate was pretty tasty. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

I sat down, ordered an Abita Amber and 2lbs. of crawdads, and literally, less than 60 seconds later I was being splashed in the eye with hot spicy headfat, knee deep in a tray of boiled crustaceans. This is the type of family place you grew up going to as a kid. I hope it never changes.
(4)Scott N.
best oysters i've had in years - they were almost sweet. with a little crystal and a saltine and i'm in heaven. and an abita amber. the crawfish were middle of the road, but the service was great and i thoroughly enjoyed my lunch with my mother. driving out to metarie is NOT really what i want to do, but the big fisherman was closed, so what the hell am i supposed to do???
(4)Dungak D.
This was a suggestion by my wife since we were visiting and boy did she get it right. Really enjoyed the seafood platter with soft shell crab, shrimp Po boy and gumbo. We will surely be back when next in town.

Locals have nothing but good things to say about this place...I will reserve my comments until I make a second visit. Why my guarded and somewhat reserved comment? For an establishment that touts "boiled crawfish," they did not have any when we stopped for lunch... the delivery was not made. So we ordered boiled shrimps - the shrimps were not fresh. Freshly boiled shrimp peels easily ...our shrimps were difficult to peel - indicating that they were not freshly boiled. I wanted to eat crawfish, so I ordered the etouffee... again, a bit disappointed - not as flavorful as expected and I did not taste the crawfish. My friend had the softshell crab pasta, he commented that it was good. As Cameron W. (previous post comments), they do serve Abita draft, so they get three vice two stars. A "homey" family atmosphere, I will have to return once again to validate or invalidate what others have stated about the restaurant.

This review is based solely on the two things I had here. The Bloody Mary here was awesome! Lots of vegetables and really good flavor. We had some friends in from out of town and we wanted to let them experience crawfish. Turns out, we took them to the best place around!! Best crawfish I have had in years!! They were really large and seasoned to perfection!! Will be recommending this place to all my friends!! Will be back!
(5)Patrick H.
Really great seafood spot in Old Metaire! A wide variety of seafood dishes that represent New Orleans with great flavors! Only drawback is that is the over-priced menu that will shred your wallet in half.
(4)John C.
Great boiled everything...crawfish, shrimp, plump juicy crabs, corn, garlic, onions, and potatoes...great seafood sauce...some good Italian pasta specials...crab cakes are delicious. When we have out of town visitors, we always take them here for a real local experience. The young waiters are awesome. Very polite and fast

My friends and I were in the mood for boiled seafood and this place really hit the spot. The shrimp were huge and tasty. Their Remoulade Sauce was to die for and I totally got a side of that to dip my shrimp in. We also had the crawfish hushpuppies. Granted, the hushpuppies came with a side of Velveeta goodness, which is far from gourmet. Regardless, I found the price point fine and the atmosphere relaxed and homey.

Any place with frosted schooners of Abita draft get at least two stars, automatically, even if they serve Alpo. So that's two stars right there. We had fried soft shell crabs that were significantly better than dog food. The crabs were quite delicioius, actually. And why isn't crab a dog food flavor, come to think of it? Is it too expensive? But what if I love my dog just that much? The appetizers were really good, too. Crawfish-infused hushpuppies with crawfish monica - like sauce were great. "Duck strips" were like chicken fingers, except with duck. The ambience was nice for a casual place, with seating in an air conditioned enclosed patio.

Great food, great prices - go early or wait in long lines.

My stomach is growling as I write this review and I just had lunch (not at the Galley unfortunately); that's how much I love this place. It's our favorite family hang out place and is one I recommend to friends who visit as they don't often think to go to Metairie for good seafood. The po-boys are a must. My favorite is the shrimp. Oyster and soft shell crab are also good. Make sure to get a couple of pounds of seafood to start out and wash it down with a big glass of Abita beer or bottomless iced tea or soft drinks. We prefer to sit out on the patio, which is air conditioned and not as cool as indoors.

Grilled Red Snapper and Grilled Crab Cakes were delicious! Highly recommend.

First we waited five minutes to be acknowledged for seating. Once we were seated we perused the menus and I noted the prices seemed kind of high. Then we waited 15 and had to ask for service just to get drinks! We never did see our own waiter, but the other guy that brought our drinks said our waiter would be there in a few minutes. Well we left before he ever showed up because the lemon in my water was the oldest most rotten lemon I've ever seen floating in a glass of water at a restaurant. I'm not gonna trust these people to make me "fresh" seafood!

My favorite boiled crawfish in town. Lemony boil with lots of garlic. Make sure you get them warm or hot - or not at all. Pricey.

I needed to have some softshell crab before I left town, the galley was where I accomplished this. Softshell Po'boy. I didn't know they made softshell crabs so big..this thing was a LARGE DELICIOUS MONSTER. Overall I'd have to say I don't find Po'boys to be all that special but still a pretty solid sandwich. FYI if you aren't from here and you are asked "do you want your Poboy dressed?" that means...(drum roll) with lettuce and tomatoes....yeah thats it. I thought it was going to be something really cool, like they put gravy over the whole sandwich, or just deep fried the whole thing (ok maybe those options aren't that cool but still.) All and all I found the food very good. Also got some crabfish corn things (I can't remember for the life of me what you call those but they are little deep fried balls of corn something...). I tried a friends trout which was covered in a creamy sauce (everything here seems to be either covered with a cream sauce or deep fried...or both...arguably a good thing?!?!).

I find it overpriced for the boiled seafood..there's nothing special there,I rather Metairie Seafood.also, the last shrimp po boy I had there still had shell on it.kinda left a bad taste in my mouth for them.

First impressions from the parking lot were not too exciting. Walking into Galley was warm and inviting. Nothing over the top but the warm welcome and quick seating was good. Rob our waiter came over quickly and gave us,menus and asked for our drink order. We were sitting right by the special's board so Rob not telling us about them was ok. After sampling food at another Restaurant my Husband and I decided to share the Blackened Fish with Crab and Shrimp Special. At $26.99 we both expected more than 3 Shrimp and actual Crab Meat!! I really don't think there was ANY crab on the Fishy tasting fish!! If there was we totally missed it. The Mac n' Cheese was the total saving grace! That is so crazy to say for a New Orleans restaurant! The bucatinni noodles with the double cheesey sauce would make me come back just to have it as a side or main course! Perfect! I wish the rest of the meal would have been as good! Oh, please skip the corn grits!! Really people, that is not a grit dish!!! I will try again (maybe) to support a locally owned restaurant. I will never do the Blackened Fish again!! Sooo not worth money or the hipe! Thanks Rob for a great dining experience!

Located in OLDE Metairie, the Galley doesn't need to add extra e's to its name to sound fancy. It's fancy by sheer association. The decor is Bucktown and the waiters are youngish italian men. The menu is mostly battered and deep fried but offers healthy options, something low calorie that balances out that Tallboy your drinking. Fried oysters, crawfish, fried eggplant, various seafood platters, red beans and rice, softshell crab, and boiled crabs are all regulars. When dinning out in OLDE Metaire, patio seating allows you to see and be seen. Another plus, the patio has rotating ceiling mounted air conditioners: known as fans in any place but olde metairie.

Do you like great fried seafood...check! Do you like mom and pop ambiance...check! Do you like a nice glass fo sweet tea...check! If you think this when you are searching for a place to eat then please, look no further. I was first attracted to The Galley when I found out that they provide the soft shell crab poboy at NO Jazzfest...man, what a perfectly fried morsel. We had to try more, and of course, the brick-and-mortar "division" of The Galley did not disappoint. First, crawfish stuffed hushpuppies with crawfish sauce...top notch. The sauce itself could have been an appetizer. I had the fried catfish platter as my entree with homemade baked macaroni and the wife had the soft shell crab platter with sweet potato fries. Both dishes were home runs. The catfish was not to gamey...like catfish can tend to be and the macaroni was divine. The soft shell crab, although just a touch over-fried lived up to its billing, with the sweet potato fries (perfectly fried I might add) rounding out the dish nicely. As far as price goes, its pretty decent for seafood, maybe a tad bit expensive, and the wait staff were kind and genuine. I absolutely would recommend this place to ANY seafood snob or anyone else for that matter!
