India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.

As I used to live in the East Coast, there are some good Indian restaurants that we used to go to. Until my brother brought me here about 2 years ago, I decided that this is the best Indian food I have had so far. This is absolutely a "Hole in the Wall" type of restaurant, and to be honest, at first, I was being a little skeptical about this place. I remember that I kept asking my brother it is okay to eat there. But of course, now I realize, it was just a stupid concern. We usually go there on Friday after work. They have dinner buffets on Friday and Saturday. Their naan is just amazing! They are so buttery that I just couldn't stop eating them. I also brought my mom as well as my boyfriend there, and they all love this place. They also recently expanded the restaurant which makes me feel so much better because I really would be sad if they didn't get enough business since they have such good food. Lastly, they are child friendly! My 3-year old absolutely loves this place also! So next time, when you are craving for some good Indian food, stop by this place. You won't be disappointed!

I stopped by to pick up lunch to-go from here and decided to go with the butter chicken. I am sad to say it was less than enjoyable. The chicken was lacking in flavor and the consistency of the curry sauce was too watery (maybe I caught them on a bad day). I was charged about $16 dollars for this take out order when I understand that their $11.99 lunch buffet had butter chicken on the line and I could have at least tried multiple dishes for less, had I decided to dine in. In my opinion they need to adjust their lunch and dinner a la carte prices accordingly. I am no stranger to Indian food and have eaten at some of the best hole in the wall Indian restaurants all the way from LA to DC, unfortunately this one fell short. I wish this family owned business all the best!

Wasn't sure what to expect when I walked in. I did sit for 10 minutes before I was even acknowledged, but that doesn't bother me so much. I was looking forward to a beer, but alas, no alcohol at this joint. Well I ordered the garlic Nann and Butter Chicken. The nann is top shelf! As is the Butter Chicken, it's got a kick but is not overbearing. Also this place's ventalation is so poor it makes a NOLA casino seem like a mountain top. My eyes and throat were burning worse than a hood clinics clients pants. Pass the respirator.

Hidden gem in Metairie. Probably the only really authentic food in New Orleans. I walked in with a huge craving for Indian food and the owners were extremely polite and curious. They have lunch buffet from 11:30 am - 2:30pm everyday except sundays. I was in a rush so I ordered the lunch special togo. For 8.99 the Lunch special includes two entrees and a side with rice, naan and dessert. They scoop the food from the buffet but the portions are quite big. I ordered the butter chicken and Tandori Chicken + some kind of Turnip. Everything was extremely delicious and truly authentic indian cooking. They baked fresh naan for me and she also let me try different desserts in the buffet. The tandori chicken was cooked perfectly and fell off the bone. The butter chicken was perfectly seasoned but quite spicy. Remember to get water or something to drink with it! Overall, excellent deal and awesome hole in the wall place that should get more recognition. A lot of reviews are saying the place looks dirty and run down but I honestly thought it looked fine. Everything was clean and neatly organized. The 11.99 buffet is definitely more worth it than a togo box BUT I was stuffed with the togo box and it fed me for lunch and dinner.

Fast forward to August 2015... The food continues to be delicious and the restaurant has expanded. The owners recently opened the wall that had separated them from the business that use to be next door and expanded into that space. The a/c is good (important in New Orleans in August) and there is now a bar. Did I say that the food is delicious? It's the best Indian food you'll find in the metro area, bar none.

gotta get out of city proper to find good indian food. this place does it right. next to saffron, this and shaya which is right down the street, are best by far...and I think I've tried about every indian joint here.

I went for the lunch buffet today with my family. You walk in, sit anywhere, they serve you water by default, and you start grabbing food. They have these cool, round, metal plates that are segmented like a cafeteria lunch tray. I used those, knowing that the entrees would most likely be saucy and mushy. My favorites were the tandoori chicken (of course, right?), butter chicken, rice, naan, and the spinach paneer (I think that's what it's called). They also had some chick pea, lentil, and turnip entrees that I tried but passed on the second time around. I also enjoyed the samosas, but they were quite large and filling. I'd rather go for that butter chicken again. The service was really quick and attentive, and the food was delicious!

This is a hidden Indian gem in Metairie. The family operated business was located on Canal Street pre-Katrina. I personally have been on a quest for the best Indian in the Metro New Orleans area (let un-knowings flock Taj Mahal and Nirvana), but I think I've found it. Not only does this place do the typical Indian fare lunch buffet cheaply at $8.99, but unbelievably they also offer a dinner buffet on Friday and Saturday nights for $15.99 and they put lamb out. I have not experienced the dinner buffet yet, but will be sure to. Support local and get your indian fix here!

I wish I could put out a PSA to everyone I know asking them to support this family business. They moved from a Canal Street location (after Katrina) to this new place in Metry. The Singh family knows Punjabi home cooking better than anyone else in the GNO area put together (not that there are dozens of options). They have a vision for their new space on Cleary, but they need to make money to make it happen, and that means customers need to walk in and give them a chance. NOLA does word of mouth better than anyone else, so folks, please help me get the word out because I want them to thrive. The Singhs are an older Sikh couple - they aren't going to put the business on billboards or airport flyers, and they aren't the type to hype themselves on social media, even if they should. They just put in a new bar and they're doing lots of upgrades. The restaurant itself isn't much to look at right now: picture a typical hole-in-the-wall mini-mall lunch spot with added white tablecloths and bleach-stained linens. On top of it, the location really sucks. But it's SO worth the drive, even if you're the only one eating in the place. Trust me. The dinner buffet is pricy ($20) for the location + ambience - but their food is just great. Lunch is about $10. The tandoori is excellent, the curried parsnips are excellent, the samosas are excellent, the butter chicken is excellent, the dal is fantastic (and if you know me, you'll know I'm a dal connoisseur), and the saag paneer is worthy of bedding any rice or naan in the city. The most endearing part about the place is Mrs. Singh with her lovely smile and traditional service style. Give them a shot, y'all - it'll be worth it. Don't walk in expecting the Raj ambience of the Taj Mahal on Metairie Road - judge it instead on the great comfort food and the lovely hospitality.

This little place is your classic husband and wife restaurant. He cooks and she does everything else. I have been eating at Tandoori for many years and I really like it. The restaurant isn't much to look at ( curb appeal doesn't exist) since it is in the corner of a small strip. The inside of the restaurant is very plain, but they are fixing the place up since the bar next door close and they are expanding But I come for really good Indian food. They have a daily lunch buffet who's is always pretty good. They usually offer tandoori chicken, chicken masala, and curry chicken as entrees. Along with rice, they have 4 different sides ( lentils, saag paneer always) as a side, salad and two different deserts. For $10.99 it's a pretty good deal. They have a dinner buffet on Fri thru Sunday priced at $15.99. They offer 2 more entrees for the dinner buffet. Last night they had lamb curry and fish masala. They have an extensive a la carte menu with almost every Indian dish you can think of. I brought my wife chicken vindaloo home last night and she really liked. In closing, if you are looking for good Indian food and not concerned about ambience. Check out Tandoori Chicken restaurant.

I agree with previous reviews that this place isn't much on the outside (or inside really) but the food is stellar! Went on a Thursday afternoon for the lunch buffet ($10 per person) since I hear lunch buffets are the best way to go if you're an Indian food amateur. It was very slow but the nice man at the table next to me confirmed that it's usually much busier in most days (he was clearly a loyal patron and claimed to visit the joint at least once a week). There was a nice, somewhat tired looking, Indian woman who did the serving and (I'm assuming) her husband who shuffled around the joint while barking orders at her (I'm can only assume that this is why she looks so tired). Although she didn't speak much English she was very attentive and sweet. I asked for an ice tea and to my surprise they actually home brew it here! For a $1 and some change that's probably the best batch of ice tea I've ever had! Anyways, onto the food. Now, I want to make it clear that I'm not an expert on Indian food. In fact it's probably the only genre of food that I have not really taken the time to dive into as of yet but I was hoping to try it out. The buffet was small but had many options and all of them had little labels to help you out. There was the tandoori chicken, chicken curry, vegetable curry, lentils, butter chicken, creamed spinach, and some sort of potato chickpea concoction that ended up being my favorite. Warning: The naan bread is homemade and EXTREMELY addictive!!! I ate like 4 pieces of it by the time I left. Plus it goes so well with soaking up all the extra flavor and juices on your plate! I probably tried a little bit of everything since I wanted to figure out what appealed to me. I honestly have no complaints about anything. I found the chicken and vegetable curry to have quite a spicy kick but not uncomfortably so. Just perfect in my opinion. But for those who are wary of spicy food I have to say, pretty much everything is spiced even if it's mild so, keep an open mind. Personally I love spicy so I was a sure Indian food and I would get along just fine! There was a little side bar on my left of intimidating condiments, creams, and spices but I didn't really mess with any of that because I didn't really know what to do with them. Plus, I didn't want to get too experimental and ruin my perfectly good authentic homemade Indian spread. (But if you are the type of person that DOES know what to do with all that please message me because I have lots of questions!) Bottom line: This place isn't very aesthetically pleasing but the food definitely hits the mark. It's a smaller, more intimate buffet compared to that of Nirvana or Taj Mahal. Everything tastes very authentic and homemade here. I will definitely come back again if I don't feel like making the trip uptown or Metairie road.

I decided to check out the lunch buffet ($10.99+tax) and I am VERY pleased with the quality of the food. Everything is made fresh in this mom and pop establishment. Everything tastes authentic and delicious and a lot of the lunch crowd is made up of regulars who keep on coming back for more. I've been to Taj Mahal and Nirvana and neither compares to this quaint spot. I am definitely making this my go to for Indian food in New Orleans.

I found this little gem here on Yelp this evening. Long story, but I ended up staying in the Sleep Inn on Clearwater tonight through a fluke, because my original hotel ended up being a dump. I had originally planned to head into the city for some seafood, but after my hotel drama, I was so stressed out that I decided to find a local affordable option. I am SO happy that I did! I knew from reading prior reviews that the outside of this place was sketchy looking. And yes, it kind of was. But that never deters me....in fact, it is very often a calling card for awesome food! This one was no exception! Sure, it looked sketchy, but I must point out that, at no time, did I feel as if I was unsafe or in danger in the area. The area is FINE. FINE. More than fine. Perfectly safe. It's just the way the storefronts look in this particular mini strip center, I.e. Signage, window treatments, etc. Go there and you will see what I mean. I walked inside, and the place was deserted. In fact, I thought it might be closed. (I concur with the previous reviewer....this place NEEDS local support!). I was greeted by a very pleasant older Sikh woman, who was so nice and took my takeout order and almost apologetically informed me that it would be 10-15 minutes before my order would be ready. I assured her that I was in no hurry and took the seat she offered and amused myself with my phone until my order was ready. The older Sikh man (I assume he was her husband) also greeted me warmly and got busy cooking my order. I ordered my two Indian standbys...Chicken Tikka Masala (medium spicy) and garlic naan. I must say that this place delivered, in ALL ways! First of all, the portions were HUGE! I had a standard 3 partition takeout tray, absolutely FULL of chicken Tikka Masala...mostly chicken, NOT mostly sauce! And there was a smaller takeout container full of perfectly cooked jasmine rice. And the naan was ENORMOUS! Needless to say, everything was absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS! Perfectly cooked, perfectly spiced, perfectly prepared, and perfectly packed. They even wrapped the chicken tikka masala tray in food service film (Saran wrap) with all needed utensils, so that the tray would not leak. NICE TOUCH!!! I was VERY hungry tonight and I could only finish about 1/3 of what they gave me. There is plenty for sharing, making this a highly affordable option for 2 or 3 folks! I wish I lived here because I would SO make this my regular go-to Indian place. Sure, the decor isn't very snappy, but it was clean and neat and the restaurant smelled DELICIOUSLY! That, combined with the quality of the food, the generosity of the portions, and how lovely and warm and friendly the owners were to me, despite the deceptive exterior, earns this little jewel five full stars from me. Please...go there, you will NOT be disappointed! Besides, they need the business! I vow to visit this place every time I'm back in NOLA. Please do yourself a favor and go there soon!

This really is as good as it gets for Indian food in the New Orleans area. This was my first visit tonight with a friend and we both really enjoyed the lamb curry and the Spinach Paneer. We then got the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Vindaloo to go. All dishes were very tasty and I cannot wait to go back for more. Place does not look very inviting from the outside, but inside it is clean and comfortable. Very friendly service.
(5)Patricia D.
Considering the needs of others, I almost gave this is 4 star because, quite frankly, the restaurant isn't a real beauty but I said you know what? I'm going to rate honestly on the food and the service, respectively. 1. Excellent. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the lamb vindaloo with garlic naan. Oh, not to mention the wonderful veggie samosa as an appetizer. All delicious! I do not have a single complaint. 2. The service wasn't snooty, up my butt-trying to get tips sort of service. She was there when I needed here. No more. No less. The outside looks sketchy enough but don't hesitate to try the food. It's a real treat to find a wonderful Indian restaurant in a such a strongly cultured city like New Orleans. I could never find enough diversity but I'm glad I found Tandoori Chicken!!
(5)Sam K.
Great Indian food! The vibe in there leaves a little to be desired but who am I to tell them how to decorate their place. I highly recommend the Vegetarian Special that includes two entrees, samosas, naan, and a dessert for $29! Hot deal!
(4)Adriane G.
Went here today with my boyfriend for the lunch buffet and it was really good! Again, not a super fancy place, but the food and service was very good.
(4)Helen L.
I went for lunch and there was only one other person there besides the owners. The food was good and plentiful. The place looked alittle sketchy. If you can pass the exterior the food was very good!
(3)Rhiannon K.
I am a fan of Tandoori Chicken restaurant! In my opinion it is the best Indian food in the NOLA area. Not a fancy atmosphere by any means, but the food is amazing. This is a small family-run restaurant with just nine tables. Get the lamb curry (spicy)! The lamb here is slow roasted and falling apart in the curry. So soft and tender... not the chewy cubes you get at some Indian restaurants. The spice level heats you up but is not so much as to ruin the flavor of the dish. I have been here several times with other people who aren't into lamb as much as I am, and I have sampled their dishes (chicken korma and shrimp curry among others) and they were delicious as well. The shrimp curry was completely different and unexpected (not just shrimp thrown in your basic red curry) but complimented the shrimp perfectly. The garlic naan does not skimp on garlic and is chewy yet crispy at the same time. Yum! Sweet lassi is delicious creamy slightly-sweet goodness! The prices are on-par with other Indian places in NOLA, and although I've never had it, the daily lunch buffet is only $10.99. Lunch take-away specials are $8.99. I would totally be taking advantage of this if I worked nearby. For me, Tandoori Chicken is worth the drive to Metry.
(4)Tamia G.
Excellent flavors! Not much competition in the area, but this place would do great food-wise against similar genres. Aside from the extremely modest location & interior design, this place is a jewel if your palette craves Indian cuisine. Aromatic, flavorful, tender, fresh- these are all words to describe there vegetarian & meat offerings. Most notably, the tandoori chicken is tender & juicy with wonderful flavor. The staff is excellent and attentive. The interior could use a facelift and music. The buffet is the way to go. Regarding the interior temperature, it's quite warm inside (and no outside seating) but worth the visit! It's probably the heat from the buffet & the naan oven keeping it toasty!
(4)Ricky A.
Too hot to dine in the summer. The takeout specials are great. The place has consistently amazing food, much better than the other Indian places in the area. The nice couple who run the place (it really does feel like you're in their kitchen!) are very sweet. I wish they could move to a more comfortable location, but their food is good enough to keep me coming back...often.
(4)Jonny N.
Pretty good Indian cuisine. The only downside to this place is the very suspicious looking silverware. Bring your own plastic ware if possible!
(4)Ashley F.
The food itself was very good, what lost points was the dining experience. There is a take-out only special and I would highly recommend doing that. It was very hot inside, and I understand it was a hot day, but it was exceedingly hot... myself and others were sweating, and the many ceiling fans were turned of. In addition, this place was silent! Awkwardly so. No background music or noise of any kind. Lastly, the silverware was sticky. I hated to ask for another set, but when I did the new set was also sticky. Not the most appetizing thing. Simple changes would make for a much better experience. I will return, but will take the food elsewhere.
(3)Erica R.
Looks a little sketchy from the outside, but the inside is clean and the food was delicious.
(4)Shannon S.
This would probably be the most dive Indian restaurant I've ever been too, except for the fact that I've been eating their food from way back when they were downtown on Canal St., in a much better spot (in an interesting upstairs place that is now some kind of Asian wanky massage joint). They probably used to have one of the best Indian buffets in the area with more choices on their special weekend buffets than anybody else (fish, lamb, and chicken dishes) and you still get to use their great huge metal plates to feast on. The buffet now is a bit more inconsistent and they can be a bit unclear as to when they will be open to offer the super buffet on the weekends but they usually offer a weekday lunch buffet that consists mainly of chicken and vegetable dishes. It appears to be run by one family and they seem like very nice people and they make good food (but maybe they aren't the best business people or had some sort of tragic financial or medical situation to have had to move to this way low rent location where you might feel a bit scared to exit your car). It certainly does look run down inside (outside is apocalyptic) and during weekday lunch I've sometimes been the only person in there (so they certainly could use some more business). I feel pretty bad for these people as I've seen how much they have had to downsize their business (for whatever reasons) but I think these folks are certainly capable of producing 4 to 5 star food they just need to get more people in the door and find a better location. I was so sad when they left the Canal location but I was so happy to find them again so I certainly think it is worth trying out.
(3)Reggie S.
I always enjoy their lunch buffet, and have never eaten dinner, so, this review is somewhat limited. The food served at lunch never disappoints, and the owners are friendly. The dining experience would be helped with an updated atmosphere, and it gets a little hot inside during the summer. Fair to say I go for the food and not the ambiance. Currently closed but will re-open in June. (owners out of town?).
(3)Heather S.
YUM so good, everything we tried was good. and buffet is awesome, but expensive. I would say if you are SUPER hungry do it or if it is your first time so you can try everything.
(4)Tiff D.
lunch buffet from Monday to Saturday at 11:30am-2:30pm

First off, somebody should update their website as it's actually tandoorichickennola.com . Kind of pricey but the food is on par with Nirvana's or Taj Mahal's. Super small little place (no more than eight or ten tables) located in an unassuming strip. Aside from a rather comprehensive menu they have a daily lunch and dinner buffet that includes multiple vegetarian and non-veg options. Favorites include the vegetable biryani, the paneer masala and the chicken korma. I also like their mango lassis a lot... not too thick and not cloyingly sweet like you'll find in other places. The naan is freshly made to order from what I understand and is a perfect balance between chewy and crispy. The samosas can be a bit spicy at times but overall everything is delicious. The family that runs the place is super sweet and friendly and incredibly helpful if you have questions about what's on the menu. They're also incredibly patient; I ate there once with a group of at least fifteen and the waitress was gracious with everyone, even though we may have been a bit loud and boisterous at times. In short: not the best Indian place I've eaten at but it's definitely the best within a 15 minute walk from my house. So I won't complain.
(4)Mona A.
The most decent Indian food close to NOLA. Not necessarily amazing but pretty good.
(3)Free L.
HOT! Good buffet but the room was soooo hot! HOT! It wasn't even a hot day outside - but BOY was it sure HOT inside. I don't care what the food tastes like - I'm not eating in a sweltering restaurant. The nicely staged pictures don't help to show what the restaurant looks like - it's far behind all the other restaurants in town. It's also the most expensive Indian buffet in town. I would go to Nirvana or Salt and Pepper or any other restaurant before this one. Sorry - I didn't take a picture of the new location - I just needed to get out of there and cool off.

One of the only few places that were open labor day weekend. The decor may not be great but I love that they had iron plates. The kind you would find at a renaissance dinner or something. You would think the namesake of the restaurant would be spectacular but it wasn't. I did enjoy the vegetable curry I loved that it included peas. The samosas looked very good but just didn't deliver on taste. Maybe next time I won't come for the buffet instead just order some eggplant from the menu.
(3)Bert S.
This place is like wandering in to an Indian families home and eating their delicious food which is arranged in a buffet style for some reason. The first time I ate here, I thought the food was really spicy and tasty, but the whole place could use a good cleaning. On subsequent trips I came to realize that the place is actually pretty spotless; everything is just old and worn down. This somehow increases the charm for me. Here's a list of the top ten best things about Tandoori Chicken (the restaurant) 1. They have a huge selection of Daler Mehndi CDs, and they will let you choose one to play if you ask them. Tunak tunak youtube.com/watch?v=-bAN… is on King of Bhangra volume 2. 2. That old dude has a straight up bad ass beard. 3. Service is almost a little too attentive. You take a sip of water, they fill the glass up. 4. The butter chicken is the best in the city and always on the buffet. 5. Eating off of those metal plates makes me feel like Indiana Jones for some reason. 6. The naan isn't greasy like it is at those other Indian buffets. 7. I like the name of the place. It's like they didn't give a shit about Hindus or historical landmarks in India. 8. So low key it's almost not even there. 9. Parking fits approximately 4 cars. Very green. 10. It's in the heart of Metry, so you can get some good eats when you're running your big store errands.
(4)Cam F.
This is a great value Indian eatery. We cook a lot of Indian at home, as there are limited choices in NO. Buffet lunch is always tasty.
(4)Dennis G.
As said in another review, "This place is like wandering in to an Indian families home and eating their delicious food." I can't agree more. Add in a somewhat shabby decor and it really does feel like someone's kitchen in their house. I'm perfectly ok with that, especially when the food is this good. I'm not an expert on Indian food and I can't say if it's good or bad or even traditional but I can say that I liked it. A lot. The vegetable samosas were very good and the butter chicken amazing. So, why not four stars? The price. I can understand some buffets charging around $15 but those locations have HUGE buffets with a large selection from which to choose. This had maybe a total of six to eight options, three of those chicken. I do like the chicken but like many others would like to have seen another meat option. This would have easily been four stars if it were a bit cheaper, Maybe the lunch buffet is a better deal.
(3)PhillyPhil l.
If this place was in Houston or Los Angeles I'd probably give it a 3 star rating. But compared to the other similar restaurants in the NOLA metro area it's easily the best. I'll give you the short review: Atmosphere and ambiance - terrible Selection - somewhat limited Quality and consistency - great Just about every other Indian restaurant in the NOLA metro area is pretty pathetic. After having eaten at every one of them multiple times and having a better palate for Indian food than some Indian people you'll meet I can safely declare this as the best food and certainly by a wide margin the best Indian buffet in town. Like I said the selection is pretty limited but they always have really good butter chicken, saag paneer, and kheer which is the only Holy Trinity I believe in (my apologies to Catholics and other Louisiana natives) It's in a rather dumpy shopping center on Cleary off of Vets and they could probably do themselves a huge favor to improve the atmosphere by simply having some music playing. It's not the best Indian food I've had but it's the best I've had in the NOLA area (including the north shore mind you) and it's not far from where I work so I frequent the place during lunch hours.
(5)Bruce C.
Great for lunch in Metairie around Cleary and Veterans for $12. Eaten lunch here probably 25 times. Yes I love Indian food. Yes the family that runs this place could not be nicer. Yes, the food is very consistent. And if you're looking for easy in easy out... this is it. Buffet style unless you are ordering something exotic off the menu. The chai (hot tea) is delicious... and great as dessert. Someday I will ask them how I'm supposed to use the little sauces, peppers etc. that are on the side of the buffet. Usually I just eat until I'm full. The food makes my nose run, so I wish they offered paper napkins, which are easier on the nose. The chapatis are fresh made. The rice is aromatic. Good luck finding it!!!
(4)Elizabeth L.
We ordered takeout, and when I got there, I realized that almost all of it was available on the buffet. I thought the order total was really pricey, $46, for two entrees, one of them meatless, naan, and samosas. The owners do seem very, very nice, but, I don't think I'll order again for dinner. Looks like the lunch buffet is reasonable, but perhaps you have to be willing to eat chicken to take advantage of that.

I didn't go on a buffet night, so the sticker shock of their regular menu prices left me with very high expectations. They were not met. Not even close. We got the Tandoori Mixed Grill since it seemed like the only way two people can get out of there without breaking the bank. The fish and shrimp were hidden under the chicken on a sizzling platter. By the time we found them, it was shrimp and fish jerky. The chicken was good. The service was bizarre and uncomfortable. I don't even want to tell the tale because I'm praying it was an isolated incident. The lack of music made making light of the service impossible, so needless to say, I was ready to get out of there. I'm being forced to go back and try the buffet and will update this review if it's worth it.

One day last month it started with craving Tandoori bread. That led me to remembering Cafe Zum Zum in Seattle, which led me to seeking Pakistani food in Metairie, and, when all was said and done, after reading tons of reviews, I decided to try Tandoori Chicken in Metairie. I was the ONLY customer at 6:00 PM, which was a tad disconcerting; however, since I was alone and would be reading, I appreciated the relative quiet. Given the location and somewhat dilapidated outside appearance, I was a little surprised to see cloth tablecloths and napkins (i.e. fancier than I would have guessed). I have to say that I was more than surprised that a simple meal of chicken curry and one piece of Tandoori nan would cost $18 before tax and tip. (Not what I had in mind for a quick weeknight-I-don't-feel-like-cooking-and-want-somet hing-different kind of meal.) I was given a plate and the chicken curry meal was delivered in two dishes -- one for the rice and one for the three pieces of on-the-bone chicken with curry gravy/sauce. Rice onto the plate. Cut pieces of the chicken on the plate. Gravy over all. While the sauce appeared to contain lots of oil, I will say that the dish was very tasty. Spicy without being tooooo hot. It was a sufficient serving and I had enough leftovers for another small meal. I believe the Tandoori bread was "home-made" and it was a nice addition, but for $2.50 for one piece, it definitely is not too good to pass up. I would go back, but would probably go only when I could get the more reasonably-priced buffet or had somebody with me to share the meal.

Wishing Yelp did half stars because this would be 2.5 stars As mentioned by someone on the other entry, this is the new location. It is no longer in the CBD. I had never eaten in the CBD location so I've no idea if it's changed much with the move. I have to admit, my girly and I had one of the most awkward lunches ever in this place yesterday. We got there at about 2:30 and the place was empty except for the woman who runs it and her daughter (granddaughter?) The buffet was kind of dodgy looking but I decided to try it anyway. The girly wanted to see a menu but when she saw their prices, she went with the buffet (though worriedly). As mentioned before, the buffet is minimal and protein is chicken. The paneer was out and there was only 2 slices of naan left. But it was late so I get that. The young girl brought us our water and then, when she remembers, she yelled across the room to ask if we wanted tea (it was cute). The food was ok. Not impressive, but not too bad. The Samosas were pretty darned good and the butter chicken too. The rest of the food...meh... There was no music or anything going and the woman and child pretty much stared at us for half the meal until the girl realized we were uncomfortable and put on some Bollywood stuff and that helped a bit. The hot green chutney was bland and not hot. The naan was good. The people were friendly enough and I know they are trying. But bottom line: Drabby restaurant (minimal decorations...like afterthoughts) Drabby tablecloths (holes, stains etc) Small selection on the buffet (SOMETHING besides chicken, please) HIGH prices (really high for that kind of place). We aren't sure we would go back if we could find another place that can help my girly with her Indian cravings that she seems to always have (Me...I crave Thai).

This is a two and a half star review which I've rounded up due to lack of other viable south Asian options in the NOLA area. Tandoori Chicken Restaurant is an unassuming place in a strip mall on Cleary out in Metry, brah. They've moved to the hinterlands from their previous CBD location off Canal. It's basically a small room with maybe ten tables total, some Sikh decorations on the side wall and the heated food along the back wall. I last ate here for their $11 lunch buffet. The only proteins offered during the normal weekday lunch is chicken (sigh) three different ways: buttered, curried, and tandoori. The butter chicken was actually good: saucy, buttery, with a healthy sprinkling of cilantro on top. It went well with both the basmati rice and naan. Tandoori chicken and curry chicken weren't bad, but weren't necessarily memorable either. Per the owners fish and lamb are offered on Fridays and Saturdays. Vegetarian dishes included veggie samosas, alo matter, dal, and palak paneer. Of these, the last was the best made, but still not outstanding. There were two chutneys offered, a red mild one and a spicy green one. The mild one was a bit sweet but nice, the spicy one wasn't really all that spicy and had a vinegary flavor to it. The only dessert offered was galub jamin. They also make kheer on occasion, but nothing else like halva, patisa etc. Of note, I have tried their biryani (not offered as part of their buffet) and it's good, better than the one at Salt n Pepper. Overall the buffet here is passable. I rank it ahead of the ones at Nirvana and Taj Mahal, but still nowhere near the variety of options you'd get in NYC.

The food was edible. And the place needs to be redone, not cleaned but completely redone as it smells badly. I would go back if I see a radical change.

Pretty good Indian cuisine. The only downside to this place is the very suspicious looking silverware. Bring your own plastic ware if possible!
(4)Erica R.
Looks a little sketchy from the outside, but the inside is clean and the food was delicious.

(3)Chantel T.
(4)Karman C.
(5)Alex R.
(2)Tyler P.

(5)David M.
(5)Zen A.
gotta get out of city proper to find good indian food. this place does it right. next to saffron, this and shaya which is right down the street, are best by far...and I think I've tried about every indian joint here.
(4)Aaron L.

(5)Spud Z.

Great Indian food! The vibe in there leaves a little to be desired but who am I to tell them how to decorate their place. I highly recommend the Vegetarian Special that includes two entrees, samosas, naan, and a dessert for $29! Hot deal!

Went here today with my boyfriend for the lunch buffet and it was really good! Again, not a super fancy place, but the food and service was very good.

I went for lunch and there was only one other person there besides the owners. The food was good and plentiful. The place looked alittle sketchy. If you can pass the exterior the food was very good!
