I've been to peppermill several times with family, always satisfied. Food is excellent, service great! they even have german beer. Good dessert drink menu. Good atmosphere, you can hear the people at your own table and not the din from the entire dining room. so what if there's plenty old people around dining in same place. If that bothers you that much you have issues lol. You should be more concerned with who's at your own table

Nice place, good food, Older and Younger crowd. My wife has said on a couple occasions she wanted to bring me here and she finally brought me for breakfast / brunch. Pulling into the parking lot i didn't expect it to be in a strip mall type of location next to a pest control business. Parking at first was not that great the lot was pretty full for late breakfast so we parked behind the building. Walking in, the place looked pretty good almost like fine dining. At first i wasn't sure if i was dressed nice enough, i was in jeans and a polo but it was a mixed crowd. We were seated right away and the hostess was very nice. Our waitress was a little hesitant about us getting breakfast at 10:45, we ran a little late but my wife was craving a crab cake w/ poached eggs and Hollandaise Sauce. She let us order off the breakfast menu, i ended up getting Ham & Cheese Omelet, i was rushed and had no idea what i wanted so i got something quick and simple. Food took about 12 min to get to our table, and everything looked great. Only thing i notice that could have been better was that the cheese was Sliced Processed. I eat processed on some sandwiches but i would think a nicer place like this would use something better. Overall my food was good and i liked it, my wife was in heaven with her Crab Cake Egg thing i tried it and it was really good. It came with some kind of Large chunk potatoes, it tasted like they were boiled and then pan fried. Didn't have much flavor so i had to add salt then they were good. The coffee tasted like typical generic restaurant coffee, but still pretty good. I did notice more then half the place is the older crowd ( nothing wrong with that ) i heard many good things about there lunch and dinners so i look forward to going back and trying them. The reason i gave 3 stars is based off my food which was good but not great, the waitress didn't seem to eager to serve us, little pricey for my food, and the atmosphere. My wife would probably give a 4 star based on her food. I would recommend going here at least twice, once for breakfast and once for dinner before you base your opinion. So right now i give a 3 star when i try there dinner meals i might update with a 4.

Ive ate at this particular restaurant 3 times in the last year. Mostly for brunch. Most of the patrons are older and from the Metry area. No surprise. It's located in this strip mall that faces Severn. This places serves breakfast daily starting at 7AM. I recommend the Crabmeat Angelique and Oysters Riccobono. However, do not order the Spaghetti and Meatballs. It made me wish Sal and Sims were still around when I saw the plate. Did return for brunch and I recommend the Crabcake Benedicts. Overall an ok experience. Our server was nice, our bread basket kept getting refilled, but you know my default answer to that is always - no more! Cash and credit, great for families and special group dinners. Parking is shared with rest of strip mall retailers.

The crayfish bisque is really good everything else,so-so. They def draw a senior citizen crowd.

Breakfast here was pretty 'enh... okay.' The restaurant decor is very beige. It was maybe 1/3 full when I was there, not busy by any means. My sausage & hash browns were both dry and very salty, and lukewarm when I got them. They'd also run out of espresso (beans, I assume). The regular coffee was fine. My pancake was really good (and huge), and service was good. Probably wouldn't waste money going back, though.

We made our reservations for our trip during Jazzfest at the last minute, meaning we were stuck in Metairie for accommodations. Rising early one morning, my mom suggested we go here for breakfast. Upon walking in, I immediately had to bite my lip not to complain. The decor was slightly bland and, while swiveling my head around, I realized we were the youngest people by at least 20 year (including my parents!). Now, I was set on getting a Southern breakfast, so I decided to shut up and see what was on the menu. The menu was eh. Some good options, some typical and dull. I ordered fried eggs over easy and some cheese grits. I was sooo excited for cheese grits. Unfortunately, the coffee was light and tasteless and the food was subpar. The grits had terrible, processed cheese on top and the eggs were overcooked. We all agreed we were full, which was important, but nobody left satisfied.

Another one of my favorite breakfast spots. Good service and prices are very reasonable for a hot breakfast. Eggs are cooked according to specification, bacon is always crispy, and both the grits and or potatoes are good. While it can be a little noisy during a weekend, this only seems to add to the local charm. Haven't really gone their for lunch or dinner so I can't comment about the food during this time. Wish breakfast was serviced longer than to 11:00 but know they have to get ready for the lunch crowd. It's a place a frequently go to for breakfast.

I had heard the Peppermill served an excellent breakfast, so I convinced my friends that we should make the trek to Metairie to try something new for brunch on a Sunday morning. We arrived to a place which didn't look like it belonged in stripmall. The facade reminded me of a European cottage, or something similarly warm and inviting. My friends and I were suddenly concerned: are we even dressed appropriately for this place? The menu was equally exciting, with rich-sounding offerings. It seemed that every other item was topped with jumbo lump crabmeat and/or Hollandaise. Expectations were again heightened when the bread arrived. Warm, delicious French bread with a crisp, flaky crust was brought to the table with whipped butter. We assumed that the rest of the meal would be equally delightful. We could not have been more wrong. When our appetizers arrived, we were immediately disappointed. Though the fried calamari was exactly as advertised, it was underseasoned and equally uninteresting. The Oysters Riccobono, on the other hand, looked nothing like I'd imagined. A dish described as oysters baked with parmesean cheese and breadcrumbs arrived as a mix of ingredients lazily piled into a casserole. We speculated that the oysters were scooped out of a plastic tub and nothing about the dish gave us reason to believe otherwise. We thought that surely this would be the single hiccup in an otherwise delicious meal. Everything on the menu looked so appetizing! Then the soups and salad arrived. I had ordered a cup of gumbo (a substitution for the cup of Creole shrimp soup which was included with my entree, but not without a $4.50 upcharge). The gumbo was garden variety with a light, buttery roux and ingredients which had simmered so long, they were rendered nearly unrecognizable. The only significant complaint about the gumbo, however, was that the rice had obviously been simmering in the gumbo pot just as long as any other ingredient. This may pass at Red Lobster, but I was none-too-pleased to pay $4.50 for such disappointing fare. I was told the Creole shrimp soup was decent, but nothing to write home about. The salad, which looked like something fresh out of a plastic bag topped with something fresh out of a plastic bottle, earned little more than a unimpressed shrug. My party began to lose hope for the meal. Our entrees would have to be spectacular to make up for the heaps of mediocrity which had been placed before us leading up to this point. When they arrived, the disappointed sigh was audible and unanimous. The presentation (white plate + meat + sauce) was all the foreshadowing needed regarding the quality of what we were about to ingest. The veal was grilled expertly, but was drowned in a Hollandaise which was reminiscent of a cheap Chinese buffet sweet and sour sauce: hot, thick, sticky, sweet, and nothing else. The shrimp and lump crab hidden in the pool of bright yellow sauce was small and rubbery. The filet was overcooked (ordered medium-rare, arrived just on the well side of medium) and was of poor quality. The party who ordered it said it reminded her of Applebee's. The twice-baked potato looked like something which might be sent back at Applebee's: a generic potato blend topped with a shiny skin of melted cheese. The only dishes which didn't evoke complete disappointment were the brabant potatoes (perfectly cooked; almost completely unseasoned), and the fried chicken and fettuccine. The chicken was underseasoned and the pasta was a little al dente, but there were no complaints from the party who ordered them. All the decor and ambience in the world cannot help food of poor quality, and the Peppermill is proof of this. The menu, which initially excited, but ultimately disappointed, suggests that the staff may be stepping beyond its capabilities. The food, priced far beyond its level of quality, could only be enjoyed by someone who had eaten no where else since the day the restaurant opened. Riccobono's Peppermill is yet another anecdote supporting the old adage: never judge a book by its cover.

This place has been in business for decades, and is loved by the locals. Great food, varied menu, terrific service and reasonable prices. Our family planned a lunch get together and we were not disappointed, If you're looking for one of the best places to dine in "Metry", go to the Peppermill. You won't be disappointed.

Was referred for breakfast and it was super. Great standard menu with some great innovative items too. The poached eggs and hash browns were delicious. My companion had Eggs Benedict style dish with crab cake and was also pleased. Great service. Will definitely return for breakfast!

I made reservations for a party of 4 for my 55th birthday. The place was empty, as the Saints were playing one of their final winning games before the playoffs. All 4 orders were placed, with my own dear birthday girl self ordering a steak. When the waiter brought my steak from the kitchen, I could see the few heads in the joint turning to look. "Boy oh boy! this must be great!" I thought. When it got to the table, I thought my husband had taken off his shoes! Was that steak stinky and spoiled! No wonder the interest of the other diners! I know that waiter smelled it...he served it any way, though. I made him take it back (and he did with no arguement!... I wonder why?) I ordered something else, but it ruined the evening for me. They wouldn't comp a damn thing for me. Of course I never heard the end of it from my guests...Ha! Ha! Ha!. It embarassed me to no end ...if they serve you spoiled food ,what else goes on in the kitchen? Stay away from this place unless you have a strong stomach. YUK!

Very good food and very good environment, only a little disappointed of a piece of ham steak and a piece of turkey steak is too thin & small cost $3 a piece. We had three sisters omellete, three eggs with three cheeses tasted great

I had a big bunch of limits from various family members for Easter Sunday lunch and the Peppermill fit the bill. We made reservations (a must for a busy day like Easter) a few days before and were seated promptly. Easter had a limited menu but there were easily enough selections to keep us all happy. Sundays have the dinner menu at lunch time which is really appropriate since this is a *very* old school restaurant. Old but solid. All 5 of us were very pleased with our meals. I loved that the salad dressing are made in house. And we had the veal with seafood, the redfish almondine and the stuffed crabs. We didn't peruse the wine list or order drinks so not really sure about that. This spot does offer 3 meals a day so that's unusual for an independent spot and my brother has been here for breakfast meetings and says the food is good. We also sampled the desserts; a carrot cake - cheesecake, caramel custard and lemon meringue pie. All were delicious. The server was on point. The food came out quickly and the tables turned over quickly, despite that we were in a room with a table set up for groups of 20.

Since most of the reviews of this place are from out of towners, I urge you to ignore them. OK, I don't completely mean that, but I kinda do. This is a fantastic restaurant. Me and the boyfriend had a date night here and the atmosphere was perfect and the staff was friendly. I decided on the red fish almondine, which came with potatoes and some kind of merliton dish. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but it was amazing. I think that MAYBE it was mixed with crab, but I'm not totally sure. Yeah, no pictures because I was starving AND I was on a fantastic date and taking a picture was the last thing on my mind, so just trust me when I tell you that it was delicious and memorable. Oh! And it came with a choice of soup of the day or salad. I chose the salad, which is basically a garden salad, with the dressing of your choice. Another touch I liked was fresh French bread and whipped butter right on the table. You can't go wrong with carbs and...hmm...whipped butter. All I know is that I was a happy camper when the bread came out. Perfect date place. Fantastic and attentive waiter. Nice atmosphere. Minus one star because playing 80's pop music, in a place like this, just seems wrong. I will definitely be back.

Nice environment with average food and service. I ordered the fettuccine with breaded chicken. The entrees come with a salad or a cup of the soup of the day. I asked if I could upgrade the soup of the day to the crawfish bisque. I was told that I would be charged the full price. I think that's a little crazy, so I ended up getting the potato soup (soup of the day). The cup is pretty small, so I'm glad I didn't pay the extra money for the bisque. I did enjoy the soup and the fresh bread. My entree was pretty good but nothing to write home about.

This is a no-frills place with no ambiance. I went there for brunch recently while I was in Metairie, and to my surprise, the omelette I had -- a vegetarian one -- was quite satisfying. The decor inside is on par with (or perhaps a half-step above) Denny's. The food was much better. Prices are reasonable.

Wait. This is an Italian place? No matter, all I really wanted (read: all I could really stomach) was pancakes and bacon. And lots of coffee. Met some folks here on the way out of town, as it was a favorite of theirs. Let me just say I was finishing off a several-day party (as one does in New Orleans) and my head and stomach wanted nothing else than sleep and easy foods. The pancakes were fluffy and tasty and the bacon was grilled to perfection. A table of six, we got pretty good service, with lots of smiles. Feeling better after some nourishment, I think I fell asleep abooouuut 4 minutes after we got back on the highway. If you're headed through Metairie, I think it's worth a shot.

This place has class. From the beautiful dining room to the friendly staff, it was a pleasure to just be there. Then there is the menu, I've had similar breakfasts that cost more than twice as much that weren't as good as The Peppermill. What ever you order, your probably going to enjoy it thoroughly. Dine here!

My family went here for Christmas Eve dinner. It was wholly forgettable. Despite having three servers for a room with two tables, we had to ask our servers four times for menus. Ultimately, for a table of 10, they only brought us 4 menus and we had to share. How hard is it to provide menus for everyone? At least the drinks came out quickly. Four of us got the Crabmeat Angelique which was really underseasoned. None of us enjoyed it particularly, though it was edible. My cousin liked her veal parmigiana and I'm guessing that ordering classic dishes here like that was probably the way to go because it's less likely to be screwed up. My mom got the Oysters Riccobono which she liked and which was probably the best dish on the table. The fish dishes were boring. I say...forget it. If you do go, I would stick with the classic Italian dishes.

This is a great spot for breakfast with reasonable prices and good omelettes, potatoes, and pancakes. I can see why a lot of people go here frequently. Surprisingly it's hard to find nice, somewhat upscale breakfast places in Metairie/Kenner, and this has to be one of the best in that cateogry.

The food is nice and the staff are very friendly. This seems to be very popular with the older crowd as I am one of the youngest adults here. It is a beautiful space. The prices are very very reasonable. My two eggs with bacon, biscuit and potatoes was only 6.95. My only complaint is that I don't think they have enough severs as I was almost finished before she checked on me again. I will say that coming here you won't be disappointed.

Went here for breakfast this past Saturday (5/26/12) and it was pretty good. The menu has a lot of poached egg dishes, about 5-6 different omelettes and then your basic breakfast stuff. I had the Western omeltte with hasbrowns. The omelette was cooked almost perfectly except there was like 5 pounds of cheese on top. I scraped off most of it and it was quite good. The hasbrowns were were fresh and really good. They were almost mashed like. My girlfriend had the poached eggs on crab cakes, They give you 2 and she really liked it. The only thing bad (if you would call it that) is that everything about the place felt old. The menu, the decor, and the people. lol. If you are under 40 then you will be the youngest in the building. Not that that is a big deal.

This had the most disgusting dish that I had ever tasted. I never send food back but I have to say that I've never been served macaroni and cheese with spaghetti pasta. I am for experimentation but the pasta noodles were also soggy and tasted too disturbing. I have eaten many things but nothing so inedible as this.

This place has been popular for a long time and the patrons are mostly much older folks that have been eating here forever. The menu has some good selections and some not so good executions of some of the dishes; as I have found that most of the things I've ordered here are rather bland which they have probably adjusted to meet the needs of the older crowed that typically dines here. This can be a very pleasant place to see some of the manners of a bygone time but I would like them to add some flavor and spice back to the food.

I've been to the Peppermill twice to have breakfast with friends and both times it was absolutely wonderful. The Eggs Benedict and the Eggs Pontchartrain are my favorites. My wife also said that it reminds her of English breakfasts just without the English bacon. (Still trying to find a place that serves actual English bacon, by the way) The staff is always wonderful, the prices are reasonable, and the ambience is very relaxing. I'll have to check this place out again for lunch and dinner, soon!

Great spot! Crawfish étouffée was excellent! Food delivered hot and timely. Will eat again. Tables too close together the only reason 4 stars instead oif 5.

My family comes here all the time for family dinners and such. Very affordable, good drinks, good food. Very little room for complaint. I find it pretty absurd that this place has an average of only 2.5 stars on Yelp. I love Yelp, but one of its weaknesses is that its dominated by the 20-something crowd. Peppermill is a pretty perfect example of this. It's an excellent restaurant, but it's not "hip" by any means. Result: 2.5 stars. Yet tons of very average yet trendy Uptown places get 4+ stars. Long story short: is Peppermill a place to go to kick off a night on the town with your friends? Maybe not. But if you're looking for great food and drinks, at affordable prices, and don't mind dining with an older crowd, it's hard to go wrong.

Came here for a very important lunch date recently and the food left us... unsatisfied. I had a cup of shrimp and crab soup (soup of the day) and a bowl of spinach salad with red onion, dried cranberries, bacon, and roasted pecans. My date had a side of eggplant madeline and a side of sauteed veggies (squash, zucchini, onions, mushrooms). That's it. And it took over 20 minutes to get it. And the place wasn't crowded. NO idea what took so long. The soup was ok, had to add some pepper (ironic); my salad was good, but that's hard to mess up. And I got a taste of both of my dates dishes. The eggplant was absolutely fantastic, but the veggies were cooked too long and drowning in butter. Just not that good. I'd like to give them another chance, but I'd be weary of what I order next time. Luckily, the food was the least important part of the date, so we both left very happy, despite Peppermill's best efforts.

I get tired of writing negative reviews, especially for places I really like. I had lunch here with my mother yesterday, and it was especially awful. Not to say they always have inedible food, but on this particular occasion the chicken fricasse was a lunch special. My mother and I both chose to order this for our lunch. Plainly put, it was salty to the point of being inedible. In other words, 3/4ths of both our meals from yesterday is still in the fridge at home. The ambience was pleasant as usual. The staff wasn't all to cordial, but still attentive. Our waitress managed to keep my water class full; this alone earns them a star because I drink A LOT of water with my meals. And of course, free hot french bead with whipped butter is always a winner in my book. This is what earned them three stars; however, if you'll notice there were NOT any stars awarded for THE ENTREÉ. Peas -salty, inedible Chicken smothered in gravy - salty, inedible. Gravy must've been from a mix packet or a can. I was starving because I hadn't eaten breakfast. I ate half of the French bread, and two bites of chicken. I went home and finished off some tortilla chips. I think I'll stick to breakfasts/brunch at pepper mill. This was such a disappointing experience.

Our FAVORITE place to go! Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.. it's all delicious. Their calamari with the honey mustard-like sauce is the best I've ever had. Their almondine, shrimp avocado salad, and pastas are all fabulous. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is pretty great too.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
