This is one of those "Fall Back" restaurants. You know a place you FALL BACK on when you can't figure out where else to go. That's not a bad thing at all. IT's a place that you know is going to bring good food and good service. New Orleans Food and Spirits is a local almost chain. I think they have 3 or 4 locations so I'm not sure if that's enough to constitute the definition of a chain. Regardless this is my favorite local. Located in bucktown on Hammond Hwy where all those restaurants are sandwiched together. What makes this place great is on nice days they can basically take out a wall, let the nice breeze come and it overlooks a very nice courtyard with a nice fountain. Pretty sure I need another adjective besides nice at this point. The food is solid as well. They have a really good grilled pork chop for lunch or dinner. My youngest loves this thus the reason I am here so much. The lunch portion is only 10.50 and comes with a side. Their chicken Caesar salad is also really good as the chicken has that chargrilled flavor. Another thing I like is that they do the chargrilled oysters. Yeah I know everyone does but this place you can get just a half a dozen in case you don't want that many. No they aren't Dragos but they are pretty good. Overall a solid choice. I may have to "fall back" here now, I'm hungry.

I've had my best meals in NOLA here. The fish pontchartrain w/ pasta, stuffed catfish & gumbo are all FANTASTIC!

This is my downright favorite and first choice restaurant for seafood! You should start with charbroiled oysters and the voodoo crawfish rolls. Onion rings are good as well. Catfish Atchafalaya is great! All of the lunch menu items are good. I wouldn't recommend getting any chicken or other meat dishes. They have just expanded their restaurant and they are still always busy! The wait staff is excellent and they have several waitresses who are so family oriented and polite. Most of the parking is in the rear. If you're a tourist, ask about the levee break location during Hurricane Katrina as it is just down the street. MUST GO.

My friend brought us here to have a bite to eat before heading to the airport to catch a flight home. She said the Voodoo Rolls were a must try and boy was she right! These crawfish rolls were outstanding! I ordered a grilled chicken salad and it was huge with plenty of grilled chicken strips. They are not skimpy on the chicken. It was actually one of the best chicken salads I've had in a while. Next time I am in town, I'll stop in for those Voodoo Rolls again =)

This was one of the best restaurants I visited in New Orleans. My friend ordered a cup of crawfish stew to start us off on the right foot. Wow. It was insanely delicious. I could've ordered that as my entree. It was so flavorful. I had the fried shrimp and catfish platter with french fries. The shrimp were perfect. They had crispy crunchy coatings and were piping hot but the shrimp on the inside was perfectly done and not overcooked. They were magical. The catfish was well cooked but not as crispy as I would've liked it. The french fries were good but nothing to write home about. My dining companion had a shrimp po boy and it had the same magical shrimp. Our server was prompt and friendly. She brought us more lemons when we asked and checked on us frequently without being intrusive. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to eat somewhere less touristy.

Excellent. Lori was super nice. It gets busy so go off time for best results. All what everyone reccomend. Voodoo rolls. Corn chowder .. everything we ate as tasty and plentiful.

Excellent food and service. Char grilled oysters great. Not burnt or full of grill debris like other place. Good seasoning. Crawfish stew excellent- says my wife the Cajun from up hwy 1. I had grilled tuna and steamed veggies - cooked just right and seasoned to enhance the flavor of high quality ingredients. Both kids (30+) felt same about their meals. We will be back..

I love to come here for lunch. I can really recommend the smouthered rabbit, soft shell po'boys, gumbo, fresh oysters and fried oysters. Service is pretty fast and the waitresses are nice. It is always crowded at lunch time so don't expect a quite meal.

Best gumbo and chargrilled oysters in New Orleans. There is not much I don't like about this place. Great sweet tea... the Oyster Florentine, Catfish Looziane, Swamp Pasta, and every other thing I've had on their menu are excellent.

Great food - service was OK - but then they put the tip on the bill - it left a bad taste in your mouth - plus the server lost money! Won't be back.

You have to get the Voodoo rolls and the Corn and Crawfish soup are to die for. The entrée are huge. Make sure you come with an appetite. The next time I'm in New Orleans I will definitely be back.

I love this restaurant! Its not the fanciest place but the food and service are always great. I have been coming here for years and the service and taste has yet to change. The last time I visited, my friend ordered something that was no longer on the menu, and the chef made it and came out later to be sure that the meal was what he wanted! Phenomenal place!

Great ambiance, great food and the owner is a fantastic lady! I wish I lived closer so I could dine here more often but it is ON MY TDL every time I visit New Orleans. Was in town for a week and stayed 2 days in New Oreleans before pushing on to Lafayette and family. This place is one of my favorite meals while visiting. I have some friends in the area who took us there for dinner and I was thankful they did. I LOVE Cajun food and this place had a little bit of everything. Normally when you find a menu this large then the taste is lacking as they cannot possibly excel at everything. Not the case here, we ordered a bit of everything and shared it between the 4 of us with complete satisfaction! If you are in the area, stop in and enjoy, you will be happy you did.

I really like this place. It's very clean and the service is great. The food is equally as good. I've gone twice for lunch with co-workers. The outdoor bar and patio area looks new and is really nice. There are a lot of seafood items on the menu. Even though I'm not much of a seafood person, I still enjoy going here. The crawfish voodoo rolls are actually really good. The batter tastes like onion ring batter to me. The only complaints that I have are 1) they will only split checks in two 2) they don't make their own croutons and 3) they need descriptions of their food on the menu - I will definitely be back and recommend the place. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. Plenty of parking in the rear.

I am a regular customer of this place. This night I specifically ordered a dozen fresh raw oysters, not oysters that have been sitting in the tray for 10 minutes waiting for the grill. There is huuuuuuge difference between freshly shucked oysters and oysters sitting there even for just ten minutes. When I politely complained, the waiter argued with me instead of bringing me a dozen fresh oysters. As I stated, I am a local and regular customer and was treated very rudely. I felt bad for even complaining. Local food critic Tom Fitzmorris(a local highly respected food critic), always recommends to his listeners to complain when the food is not satisfactory. In this case it back fired. I always enjoy this place, but tonight I was completely embarrassed. #lostacustomer

I had the blacken red fish and it was great along with the voodoo egg roll and it the best I ever had eaten. The service was great, friendly and fast. I have eaten their on three occasion and looking forward to returning whereas I would recommend this business to a friend.

My mom and some of my coworkers had been telling me about this place for a while. I just never had an opportunity to drop by. After a wonderful meal I must say this won't be my last time. This was a fantastic experience for me. The service first of all stood out. Everyone was very inviting and attentive. The place was packed so the servers were all busy yet I never felt forgotten. The food was fantastic. I can't wait to bring my family & friends to this place. What you'll find here is our brand of seafood done right and our brand of hospitality showcased. Can't go wrong with that.

I am not too sure how I have missed this place in the past, but I have. It is next to R&O's in Bucktown. I really like this joint and to be honest it has some of the best seafood at a great price around. If you want a terrific classic poboy and a cup of soup (gumbo/ bisque) this place has both of those and the way you want it. Their shrimp and oysters are fried perfectly and have a very classic and clean taste. They are always big and plentiful on the sandwich. There gumbo is dark and has a nice soulful taste. But I like the corn and crab bisque the most. i have tried a few dishes there and have never had a bad one. They have surprisingly some of the best fish tacos I have had (not fishy!) and their pasta dishes are creamy and balance well with their seafood. I love their appetizers as well. The onion rings are extremely fresh and light (ask for that special sauce!) and the voodoo rolls are on point. But sometimes I just want some classic hushpuppies which they have for like 3 bucks!!! Now that food gives me some spririt!! okay that was terrible to say it like that, but oh well. This place rocks. If I have to say something bad it would be that the service is....well it can be strange. It is not that it is bad. It is not fast (although that isn't a bad thing). How do I say this, it just seems like sometimes the waiters have their heads in the clouds. Yeah, I'll go with that. But always friendly! The Good: Great food The Po Boys All the seafood APPS! Nice outside area The Bad: Its good so it can get packed! The ugly: Its by the lake and I have been there when it rained, and it rained hard! Water was coming in the place and it was getting pretty ugly. Oh Well my food was good!

Every time my family comes in town, there's always a request to come here. With the weather being so perfect lately, this is your place to come if you want to sit on the patio and enjoy a nice meal. BUT, be prepared to wait. Not just for a table due to its popularity, but for your food. The last couple of times we've come our food has taken an exceptionally long time to come; close to an hour in fact. I understand it takes time to produce good food but dude c'mon!! Moving on to the food though....while it's nothing that will blow you out of the water, they do a good job of delivering consistent, well seasoned food. I hadn't tried the gumbo in awhile so I decided to order that and once again, they put their foot in it. They also deliver when it comes to their chargrilled oysters. Crawfish rolls, not my favorite but everyone else seems to love them. A little too rich for my liking. When I do get a craving for fried seafood, I'll take them over Deanie's unseasoned, flavorless batter any day. All in all, a consistent family friendly place with a menu that caters to all.

This last visit was not the best, but I have been here several times before and loved it. I usually come for dinner, so maybe lunch is more hectic? This is a place we come regularly and will continue to. I got the popcorn shrimp salad- the shrimp were huge! My dad got the seafood platter. We also got hush puppies and onion rings as an appetizer. All good, nothing outstanding this time.

I'm kicking myself for never trying this restaurant sooner, and I'm already looking forward to going back to New Orleans Food & Spirits! I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner, and I know my family also enjoyed theirs. We started with the cajun crawfish rolls, and they were a real treat. Do yourself a favor and order them! We also ordered the grilled shrimp salad, grilled tuna entre, and hmmmmm. I sure can't remember what my brother ordered, but I know he enjoyed it. I had the grilled shrimp salad and it was really tasty. The shrimp were perfectly seasoned and plentiful. I'd like to go back and try some different menu options as they seemed to have a nice selection. Another big reason I want to go back to this restaurant is the fact that they have a huge courtyard. On any evening this is a big draw for me. Even in the heat of a New Orleans summer the shade of a lovely courtyard makes the world go round! I'll definitely be back to enjoy it.

Courtyard seating! My family loves to get together at this place. I've never been when it wasn't super crowded which could be a bad thing but the servers are always fast and very attentive. I recently went for brunch and sat in the redone courtyard area and it was fabulous. They have big TVs outside so the husbands were very happy about not missing the game. The bloody Mary's here are not to be missed! Make sure you fill up on some of there oysters and bloody Mary's and you will be a happy happy customer!

Tried here because there was so many people waiting for acme. I usually go to acme for oyster but today I wanted to try somewhere else. So I tried here. I order raw oyster dozen and seafood gumbo. They came out very fast. Food was great and their potato salad is awesome probably the best I had in New Orleans. Their oyster was good but compared to Acme it wasn't cold. Some of the crackers they gave me were broken. But besides that this is a great place. They have a nice outdoor area to dining in, in a great weather. Parking was kind of difficult. Didn't have much parking. Overall I'll give this place an "A" prices about the same compared to Acme. Hope this helps

Amazing food!!! And the prices were fantastic. Plus, we went during happy hour and had delicious martinis for $3 a pop! Definitely will be going back on my next NOLA visit.

I went there again for lunch today. I must say I was probably a little generous with four stars, but I see no real reason to take away a star. I had the half fried shrimp Po boy and cup of seafood gumbo. Both excellent. It's hard to find really good gumbo in New Orleans believe it or not but this place is better than most. Certainly respectable gumbo. And the half shrimp Po boy was huge. There was so many shrimp on it I had to eat a few first before I could actually close the Po boy. And one of the best things about this place is the prices. Given the quality and quantity of the food, the prices are unbelievably good.

I've been a regular at the Bucktown location for years and a fan of the VooDoo rolls since my very first visit. Even after all these years, they are still my go-to menu selection at every visit. Add on the charbroiled oysters when they're in season and I'm one happy girl. My entire family is a fan of the menu at New Orleans Food and Spirits. Some noted favorites are the gumbo, the grilled shrimp salad, the popcorn shrimp salad, the swamp pasta and the catfish louziane. All the dishes are very, very generous portions. About a year ago the Bucktown location expanded by adding on a large courtyard (partially covered) with an additional outdoor bar. It's pretty and the added seating is nice but my one complaint is that they rearranged inside too. and when they did, they made the seating area too tight. During my last two visits, the tables were practically on top of each other. The tables for the large parties were kind oof overtaking the smaller parties. It wasn't easy getting in and out for the wait staff or for us. i actually thought about what would happen if there was a fire. Many people's chairs were crammed behind the table against the wall with no easy way out. I would have been a bit claustrophoc if placed there. I was also recently at the West Bank location and found the layout much better and more spacious. Other than the cramped dining room, it's still one of my favorite restaurants for the delicious menu options and of course the voodoo rolls. :)

There is no doubt this is a down and dirty local hang out. If you're looking for romantic ambience, hipster cool, or funky food establishment - you're most definitely in the wrong place. If you enjoy oysters or fried food, by God you made it to the right place! From what I saw the portions are massive. Example - we ordered a fried oyster salad. For the first time I've ever experienced in a restaurant , our salad came out with not 8; not 12; but 16 of the biggest fried oysters I've ever seen. It was literally Amazing!! But I digress. We started out with an order of a dozen raw oysters and A dozen chargrilled oysters. First of all, the oysters were some of the largest and absolutely freshest oysters I think I've ever had in my life-- there was literally no hint of any smell- at all!! WTF NOLA? Are you keeping all of your good oysters at home? Perhaps even more interesting was their version of chargrilled oysters. They had a smooth smoky flavor, that was for more pronounced than katie's version of this, but still unbelievably delicious. The crowd here was a true a true mix of New Orleans locals - kids, family, friends- including the local sheriff who occasionally pronounced people that were parked double outside!!! If you want a taste of New Orleans at rock-bottom prices with food that I make your tastebuds stand up and shout hallelujah!! you found it. Just make sure you don't double park - that sheriff is awful tough looking.

Places has so much potential, love the food here but outdoor sitting is terrible. Spiderwebs on the lighting; they need to dust & flies galore had to cover my food to eat.

This recommendation came from a New Orleans native. Everything was absolutely delicious. I had the Louizine catfish. It was the best catfish in the city. It wasn't mushy like most places because the catfish is farmed here in the U S. The voodoo crawfish rolls were excellent.

We came here for my mom's birthday because she wanted seafood in Bucktown, and Deanie's and R&O's were both closed (it was a Monday). What a great decision! The onion rings for the table were thick-cut, appropriately breaded, and very well-seasoned. I got a half-dozen charbroiled oysters, and they were amazing! Cooked well, medium sized, very good garlic-butter sauce, and just the right amount of parmesan cheese. Plus a few pieces of french bread to soak up the buttery goodness! I also ordered the shrimp spinach salad, which came with feta, dried cranberries, croutons, parmesan, and a TON of delicious grilled shrimp (I posted a photo). My SO ordered the shrimp feast, which consisted of 2 stuffed shrimp, some fried shrimp, and pasta Lafayette (basically shrimp alfredo on angel hair pasta). The stuffed shrimp were fully stuffed and delicious; the fried shrimp were good; and the pasta Lafayette was damn good too. The portions were huge, and we all definitely had enough for lunch the next day. I mentioned to the waitress that we had a birthday guest, and she brought a free bread pudding with the check. We all got a taste. It was good, but I can't really say I've had "bad" bread pudding. All in all, I thought this place was a fantastic alternative to Deanie's and R&O's, and I expect I'll go back when I have a hankering. My only issue was the service seemed a wee bit slow.

My sister wanted to try this place out since they're in town for the holidays. Rarely being in this part of town, i obliged because I know exactly how on point Bucktown is with the seafood game. I was already en route before I decided to check Yelp! to confirm hours and to my dismay, they were allegedly closed on Sunday, bummer. I decided to drive past anyway since I was close and my sister wasn't answering her phone (of course). To our luck, they have new hours and are now open on Sundays (I edited the business hours on Yelp! so hour changes should be coming soon). We had a nine-top so I reserved us a table, no problem. To be clear, they do not take reservations, they simply put your name on a list and seating is designated by order received. There's heaters out back as well if you're worried about the cold. Of the apps we ordered, i tried the voo-doo rolls and their chargrilled oysters, both were not bad. The rolls, I'm glad I tried, but their not exactly something I'd just have to come back for. The oysters were fine, I think Neyow's are better tho. I ordered a bowl of seafood gumbo with potato salad as I was not super hungry for a big entree. The potato salad was again, not bad, but I'm not fond of restaurant potato salad or gumbo for that matter, but tonight I felt like taking a chance. I like my potato salad more mustard'y but I swear, it's fine. The gumbo was surprisingly good for restaurant gumbo. Compliments to the chef on that. My sister had the fried eggplant, which she liked. Moms had the salmon which she said she would certainly get again. In fact, i'm pretty sure when I looked at her plate after she finished, it was ready to go right back on the shelf. Our server was awesome, i can't remember her name but she was the sweetest woman ever. The nine of our bills combined was only $250 before gratuity, not bad. I definitely see myself coming back. I feel left behind finding out about this place just today tho. My eight year old nephew deemed this one of his favorite restaurants, even he knew before me! Love it.

I had visitors from out of town and as was traditional in my family, I took them out to the lake for dinner. Back when I was kid, we always headed out to Bucktown or WestEnd for seafood eats when we had out of town visitors. You got the freshest seafood AND you got lakefront breezes to keep you cool. I knew my parents were a fan of this seafood joint and it was open on a Monday night so score. The newly renovated patio was perfect...especially since there was a huge, disorganized, loud family birthday party happening inside. We all enjoyed our food and the company and atmosphere but our server was kind of a ditz. She was very sweet but forgot items (like additional drinks or more sauce). The restaurant had enough variety that everyone was happy too.

Now I don't ever leave reviews but I was extremely upset after just eating here tonight. They were pretty crowded and didn't have any seats so they sat us outside by a large party. We couldn't even hear ourselves talk it was that noisy. Overall the food tasted good but for the small amount of food that was given, it wasn't worth the price. The waitress asked what side do I want with my meal and gave me options. Steamed veggies was an option so I choose it. Now she didn't tell me that it was an extra $2 because it was considered a substitution. Didn't find that out until I seen the bill. Now $2 isn't that serious but really, an extra $2 for veggies. That's ridiculous. Pretty sad that it cost more to have healthier options. Should of at least informed me before hand.

My wife and I shared a delicious Stuffed Catfish with "Lafayette" pasta... which is basically a shrimp cream sauce. It was really good, and servied with two giant filets or catfish, allowing for plenty of food for the wife and I. The Saints game was on, and was catching the attention of the wait staff as well as the customers... so our waitress, although nice, was a little less attentive than she should have been. Overall, no real problems. BOTTOM LINE: One of our favorite lake-side seafood joints. We always seem to have a good experience!

We came here for my mother-in-laws birthday. We were looking for a place with good local seafood while sticking to somewhat of a budget and New Orleans Food and Spirits in Bucktown seemed to fit the bill. The Bucktown eatery was booming on a weeknight with the restaurant almost at full capacity inside. They even had a few diners enjoying their dinner on a particularity hot September evening on the outside patio. I made a mental note about the patio to remember. It has been redone and looks great. The wooden fence creates a privacy barrier from the street. They have a nice big fountain for ambiance and I noticed heaters ready to go for the cooler nights. Inside was open and airy with the doors to the patio open and plenty of windows in the front. The bar area was nice with minimal decor. There is a large window to the kitchen so you can see the open flames of the charbroiled oyster action. Since we had a big group we wanted to get some appetizers to share. We settled on the large order of onion rings and voodoo crawfish rolls. The onion rings were plentiful as the huge fried onion rings were stacked up and piled high. The voodoo crawfish rolls were sort of like a seafood cheesy egg roll. They came with a great sauce that made them go from good to wow. I ordered the stuffed grilled catfish which was a crabmeat stuffed catfish served with a side of pasta Lafayette (Alfredo shrimp sauce). This entree was rich and definitely big enough for two people. The fish tasted great and the stuffing was perfect with it. I also got to taste a sampling of the shrimp and oyster poboy which was excellent. The seafood platter, which again was huge and could be shared with 3 people easily. All of the fried seafood was perfect. Great taste, great seasoning, perfect crunchy batter. The service was on point. Our drinks were constantly refreshed and everything that was requested came zooming out. The wait time for the food was pretty short. Since we were celebrating a birthday our waitress brought us a bread pudding with a candle at the end of our meal. It was a nice surprise and a sweet way to end our meal.

COMFORTING & SATISFYING During my initial Naw'lin's fourteen day stay I discovered NOF&S and broke all my self imposed rules by eating right here for three consecutive evenings. I just couldn't get enough of this Bucktown restaurant. No parking issues here with their private back lot plus street front parking. NOF&S is perfectly aligned midway between my office and the Martiott Metairie. This past week two evenings in row. It's as if I'm having a food drug relapse. Hush puppies, tuna steak, fried oysters, crab cake on top of angel hair with Pontchartrain seafood sauce, fish chowder, ribeye steak, spicy blacken chicken, and bread pudding I have eaten and instantaneously crave for more. Yet I've only scratched the surface of their menu. Many more of their great Naw'lin's entrees waiting for me to be tried. So, if I sound like I'm crazy about NOF&S... I AM.

Unimpressed. I'm not exactly jaded with typical New Orleans cuisine. The creamy pastas, fried seafood, and oysters. I've tried the restaurant in westbank, and my opinion favors the westbank location more. We had the voodoo rolls- I feel like it was under fried. The shell was not crispy. Oysters- that was fine but you can't mess up raw oysters. Hawaiian salmon- perhaps the best of what was ordered. Stuffed catfish- I understand it was supposed to me seasoned catfish but the seasoning was burnt. Stuffed eggplant- eggplant was fine but the pasta was greasy. Not to mention our waitress who seemed frazzled and unfriendly. Obviously, with an automatic 18% added to parties of 5 or more, she didn't feel like she had to make an effort to be nice.

My favorite restaurant in the entire world! I could literally eat everything that's on the menu, it's so freakin' good! We ordered: The VooDoo rolls (a must to anyone that comes here) Dozen of chargrilled oysters Swamp pasta w/ potato salad Westbank location closes early on Sundays (cries), so it was a must to head towards Lakefront for this and of course, wasn't disappointed at all :) food, service, and atmosphere was excellent!

My girlfriends & I came here the last day of our trip for Essence Festival. I'm from here and never knew about this spot. I absolutely love this place. Went on a Saturday night and it was pretty crowed but we were seated right away and the food came out quickly. The waiter was awesome too. The voo doo rolls are to die for. So was the stuffed fish with pasta and the seafood feast. The weather was perfect for outside seating close to the lake. I will be visiting again soon

Very disappointed in today's meal. I ordered catfish Loozianne and the rice in the stew was HARD...when brought to the waitresses attention, I was asked what I would like to be done. I don't want to eat hard rice in a stew that is served with cooked rice every other time I have been here. My mom ordered the catfish stew. Her rice was hard too. When she asked to send it back the waitress just looked at her puzzled and confused as to what my mom wanted her to do as well. The waitress was very pushy and rushed us from the moment we sat down. While eating, she came and asked if we needed boxes: eating meaning forks up to our mouths and plates still full. Very disappointing visit this evening. Then as I was walking out hostesses are arguing and throwing menus on tables. Bad experience here

Excellent selection of new Orleans food. Very reasonably priced daily specials. Fantastic gumbo. Very nice outdoor eating area, which is covered from the rain. Recomend for business lunch, or a date night place.

The Voodoo rolls are to die for! A cheesy, crawfish goodness! Pontchartrain pasta is awesome, and so is the shrimp salad. My favorite is the bon ton chicken.

We arrived and it was really crowded considering it was a week night. The had an out door area which seemed nice. We put our name in and they told us about 30 min wait...no problem. They had an outside bar in the patio so we thought we could enjoy a drink while we wait. Unfortunately, no one was tending the bar. We had been waiting about an hour and a half now when my husband asked about our table. We knew it was crowded so we were trying to be patient. They told us they didn't know. They still had tables ahead of us and were still trying to accommodate a party of 20. We waited it out because we had people in from out of town who really wanted seafood. Onto the food. We already looked at the menu and knew what we wanted so as soon as the waitress came we ordered. The food came out really fast. Which was great because we were hungry. We had a variety of dishes and shared them. Everything was really good. I ordered the blackened chicken and pasta...the chicken was delicious!!!! I would definitely go back and order this again. Our server was great as well (sorry don't remember her name). She was very attentive and friendly. My only reason for 4 stars was the unrealistic wait time knowing how many people and parties they had to accommodate before us.

Enjoyed a meal here last Saturday and it was AMAZING!!! Must say it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Started with the crawfish egg rolls and they were delicious. A must try! I had the crab cakes Ponchatrain and these were great as well. Tons of real crabmeat and the crawfish pasta was perfect. And not to mention the chargrilled oysters! Didn't have a bad part to the meal. And was pretty well priced for the quality of food. This place is a must try!

Where do I start. The voodoo rolls were amazing as was the gumbeaux. But I'm still dreaming of the crawfish corn soup. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Try the hurricane katrina from the bar, you will not be let down. The service was amazing and the food was to die for!!!

  • Louise G.

I write this as a long time customer even before Hurricane Katrina. I still greatly enjoy the food but the service has a lot to be desired. I hate it when a restaurant place an automatic gratuity of parties of 6 or more and then the server feels they can blow you off. Well not last night!! Enough is enough. After being expected to carry hot grilled oyster plates to a new seating location and basically being ignored, I ask management to remove the 18% gratuity the the server did not deserve. She will learn every tip should be earned. I have travelled the world and usually tip 20% but I am done rewarding poor service. NOFS you should take heed to your wait staff. They need to learn a few things about customer service!! -one very unhappy long time customer Dr. A

Long time customer. Had meal last night and it is sad how this restaurant has gone down hill since Katrina and the seating expansion . The food quality is no longer the same and the kitchen cannot keep up with the volume of business.

This was my first visit to New Orleans Food and Spirits but I will definetly make another trip there on my next visit. Voodoo Crawfish rolls, yummy. Great use of fresh crawfish and eggroll paper and a bit of saltiness from the cheese. This is a must have. The Seafood Gumbeaux was full of shrimp and crawfish in a flavorful roux. I had the shrimp feast and it can satisfy any shrimp craving. Super fresh fried shrimp, 2 enormous stuffed shrimp loaded with crabmeat and Pasta Lafayette loaded with even more shrimp. This dish is a shrimp lover's dream and easily would feed two adults. I cannot wait to return and try the Catfish Loozianne and the Crawfish Corn Soup. If you plan on eating your of through the Big Easy New Orleans Food & Spirits should definitely be on your list it's on mine.

Literally waited over two hours for my entree of which I never saw. However sitting at the main bar was quite amusing. We watched the bartenders enjoying a box of Popeyes fried chicken while submersing an entire forearm fish olives out of the jar. I do not recommend martinis, bloody Mary's or any drink that requires olives. My out of town guests were motified.

This place had such a nice atmosphere! We were seated on the patio and first thing I saw was a water fountain front and center. So nice. I asked the waiter for his favorite menu items & decided on the stuffed eggplant dish. It had two long slices of breaded eggplant, crab meat stuffing, a bed of Angel hair pasta and a yummy sauce. Overall, I loved the experience. Waiter was friendly, we were seated promptly, and luckily went during their happy hour and lunch special time.

I am in love with this place. I try to come here once a week. I always get the voodoo rolls and trout with chopped pecans with the garlic mashed potatoes. DELISH!!!!!! I believe this is a real New Orleans restaurant. The staff is sooooo sweet!!!!!!!! Southern Belles at their best!!!!!

Recommended by a local and we decided to give it a shot. The food and service was great. It's a small restaurant which makes it a little loud, but the nice waitress and the speed of service more than made up for it. Food wasn't spectacular, but still very good.

Had the stuffed fish to go and it was great. The portion was perfect and the fish was very fresh even with a piece of bone left to prove it. The pasta was ok but the sauce and shrimp were good. This dish and much of the menu is similar to Copelands. The place is small so seating on a Friday is a challenge but overall if you can't get into Copelands this is a great second choice.

Simply THE VERY BEST in the city!! In our city which is known the world over for it's food and unique neighborhood restaurants, there are NONE BETTER!! Not only is the food unsurpassed but the restaurant is the quintessential New Orleans spot where us locals and clued in tourists and visiting celebs go. Open for lunch & dinner (except Sunday). Well worth any wait times. Everything cooked from scratch. No shortcuts here!'

It's old-school, but not in a bad way. The food is always large servings and delectable, and their specials are different daily so there's always variety. The only thing I see that is an issue is when it gets busy, it gets BUSY - people FLOOD in. The food is just that great, but my waitresses are hit and misses sometimes.

Started with the idea of taking the family to R&O for dinner during Christmas week. Apparently, that was not a very original idea. There was at least 30 people waiting for a table when we arrived. So, we wandered over to New Orleans Food and Spirits where there was no waiting. I'm guessing that R&O overflow is big part of the business. We were quickly seated, the restaurant was 60% full when we walked in the door. Within 20 minutes, the place was full and several groups were waiting. NOFS turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Decent selection at the bar, quick, efficient, friendly service. We had four meals, a wide variety of cooking - sandwich, one appetizer, one fish - all turned out to be above average to excellent. Potato salad is always a test of a restaurant - at least half the time it is horrible. This was a little different version - creamy with a lot of egg - very good rendition. I had a large platter of blackened shrimp over angel hair pasta - well done. The rest of the family was also happy with their entrees. Total price with tip - about $25 per person. I'm not sure I would drive across town to eat here, but if you are in the area, it is a solid choice.

I'm not sure why this restaurant has just 3.5 stars... My reasons why: The portions are large. The food is delicious. I haven't had ANYTHING on the menu that's not worth eating. They have some of the best gumbo i've had at a restaurant; the corn bisque is mouth-watering. Ask for the remoulade dressing on your salad....wow. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. I could go on longer, but the food is just really really good.

Came in for lunch about a week ago and had the daily special, Eggplant Ponchartrain. I was such a pig, ate the whole thing (and salad)... the eggplant is breaded and fried, then served over angelhair pasta with this crawfish cream sauce that is the best. My friend had a (huge) burger which pleased him, and I think we were out of there with tip and ice teas for about $27.

we had lunch here the thursday before christmas. thinking that we were far away from the mall and vets this would be an ideal location for lunch boy were we wrong cuz it was packed. i got lucky with parking cuz 3 cars were coming out as i was looking for a spot. there was a total of 8 of us all together. we started with the 2 orders of crawfish egg rolls as appetizers. they were really good soo good that one of my coworkers ate like 3. as entrees me and another co-worker ordered the catfish louisianne, 1 ordered the hawaiian salmon, 1 ordered the hawaiian pork chop, my boss ordered the redfish which came with crawfish pasta, 1 seafood platter, and 1 ordered shrimp poboy. all of the food was really good but the standouts were the Sweet Potato fries which my coworker had as a side . they tasted very light not fried more like mashed sweet potatoes. the hawaiian salmon which my coworker would have loved to replicate at home if he could. my friend offered me an oyster from her seafood platter which i noticed were huge that was a nice surprise! the only drawback of our dining experience was it took forever for our food to come out like 45min-1hr

Since kiddo went to a pizza place for lunch on Saturday, my idea of going to R&O's for dinner got shot down. When I returned with the idea of going to the place next door, that was well-received, so off we went to New Orleans Food and Spirits. New Orleans Food and Spirits is set up like your basic NOLA "neighborhood" place, but it's big and roomy. Access to tables is good, and the bar is big. This means that you'll get seated in a reasonable amount of time, even on a busy night. We started with the onion rings (memo to NOFS webmaster, "onion" is NOT spelled "onyon"). They were hot and fresh. I wanted to try their "Voo Doo Crawfish Rolls," but family was not feeling adventurous. When I saw them go by to another table, I was envious. Side salad, served straight from the fridge, therefore too cold to eat. The Italian dressing was very underwhelming, as it began to congeal when poured on too-cold greens. When your server asks about salad and dressing, tell her to just skip it--the entrees are good enough you don't need to spoil your appetite on this. Kiddo went with the "Hickory Smoked Chicken," with fries. It was a good, juicy, chicken breast. It's important for a seafood place to do solid non-seafood entrees for the folks (like kiddo on Saturday night) that don't want to do seafood. NOFS succeeds. Crab cakes with "Pontchartrain" sauce. NOFS is smart about their approach to seafood. They offer a number of dishes, then top them with either of their "Lafayette" or "Pontchartrain" sauces. Their printed menu does not describe either sauce, but website describes the Lafayette as a "garlic cream sauce." When Mrs. YatPundit asked our server, Joann, about "Pontchartrain," she said it was a crawfish-cream sauce. That worked for wife, so she got the crab cakes. These were two of the best crab cakes we've ever had. I would have added more hot sauce to them had it been my plate, but wife was just fine with them as-is. The NOFS website lists this as a single crab cake for $16.99, but the printed menu at the restaurant has this as two crab cakes for "market price," which was $22.99 on Saturday night. I don't consider it so much a bait-and-switch as just a neglect of their website. Still, a lot of folks do their research on where to go out based on Teh Internets, so such a change may not look as simple to others. In any case, the dish was very good and wife took home the second crab cake with some of the pasta rather than totally pig out. I went with the "Stuffed Eggplant Lafayette" but changed the sauce from Lafayette to Pontchartrain for a $1 upcharge. I like eggplant-crawfish combinations, and this one didn't disappoint. Under a creamy sauce with a lot of crawfish were two breaded eggplant cutlets, and in-between those was some of the crabmeat stuffing used for the crab cakes. What a winner! This dish needed no extra seasoning, and I ate every last bit of it. For drinks, Mrs. YatPundit had a glass of the house Pinot Grigio and I had an Abita Amber (all bottles, no draft beer). Service was, well, a bit off. Joann, our server was polite and cheerful, but I suspect the huge (25-30) party seated along the wall behind us was throwing off the timing of the staff. Someone drinking wine shouldn't have to ask twice for a glass of water. Checking to see if I want another beer after I'm finished eating isn't good business. Still, this lady didn't impress me as being incompetent or deliberately unattentive, just rushed. That's not her fault, but a breakdown in the front of the house. When you've got a large party, management has to make sure there's enough staff to handle the regular diners as well. This restaurant is too big to just close for the evening for a group of 30, so what was needed was supervision to keep things moving smoothly. The food was good enough and the lapses minor enough to not be a huge issue, but if you go to NOFS and see more than one big party in the place, this might be cause for concern. The tab came to $83, which included two beers and one glass of wine. I tipped $17 to make it $100. One final note: the NOFS website is just awful. It's flash-based and opens with an embedded YouTube commercial. It's a good example of what happens when you let your sister-in-law or some such do your website--technology/interface that's three years behind the curve. This is problematic in the mobile phone age where someone might look a place up on Yelp on their iPhone or Android phone and want to jump over to the restaurant's site. I was introduced to this place by a local. Now, every time I travel to New Orleans, I HAVE to go!!! Everything on the menu is delicious. My favorite is the Catfish Lousianne. My husband usually orders the seafood platter - which is fried to perfection. My girlfriend orders the chowder or gumbo, and her husband orders the eggplant and pasta. Great prices, and the lunch menu is a bargain! Crowds are crazy at dinner, but worth the wait!!

Working lunch with the bosses and a vendor. It was busy and crowded but we were sat immediately. They have sweet tea so I ordered my favorite, "half sweet". They have large lunch menu and several lunch specials; red beans and rice and a pork chop for Monday. I ordered the grilled shrimp salad. They have homemade ranch and remoulade dressing. I don't like either but I hate bottled dressing, so I asked for both on the side. The salad was iceberg with shredded cheese, croutons and tomatoes. My salad was ok, but I was envious of the guys who ordered poboys.

OMG! Some people you just cant please, no matter what you do. I should know, Im married to one. The food is absolutely deelicious, and yes, Im sure the owners know you dont spell onion, ONYON, You must not be from around here. The owners, whom Ive known for over 15 years, are always there to make sure everything goes smoothly. I live on the northshore and go to that one often, esp. for lunch, but visit the one in Bucktown also. Where the owner (or someone in the family) is always there. THis is a family run business, and the food really is delicious, but dont take my word for it, just go and try it for yourself. :) SOme really good dishes are the catfish Looziane, voodoo rolls, eggplant pontchartrain, any shrimp plate is really good, pretty much anything on the menu.

My husband and I love this place!!! It was only our third time going and it had been several years since we had been but it still does not disappoint! The food is awesome and the service is wonderful!! You leave feeling like you are a regular because everyone is so friendly and outgoing. Many servers came up to our table to see our girls. At other establishments servers cringe when they see you have kids and avoid you like the plague. They give kids crayons so they can draw on the paper placed on the table which is a great distraction for the little ones. My husband wanted to watch a game and the manager gave him the remote and told him he could change the channel to whatever game he wanted to see. Very nice!! Love the poboys too! So delicious!!

Oh wow! So delicious! Awesome location, and the place is nicely put together. Staff were so friendly and sweet. Food was delicious. Their gumbo was amazing. Shrimp poboy was so yummy. Their shrimp were super fresh and delicious. Their garlic potatoes were addicting. I had a couple sips of their Bloody Mary and was pretty impressed. I really loved this place!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the N.O. area. The menu has quite a few seafood items. Most meals consist of fish, shrimp or crabmeat. I usually find this location is easy to get to but it keeps a crowd. The food portions are pretty good and the average dinner entree is $20 and there are also daily lunch specials served until 4p. My menu picks are the corn and crawfish soup, the voodoo rolls, catfish looziane, grilled stuffed catfish lafayette, grilled shrimp club salad and swamp pasta, muffaletta (pronounced muff - uh - la - tuh), redfish pontchartrain and blackened shrimp lafayette. Each entree is served with potato salad or a side salad. The voodoo rolls resemble egg rolls and are stuffed with cheese sauce and crawfish. In addition to the items I have tried, the also feature daily specials. I have tried the shrimp and grits which were pretty good. This is a place I try to get to at least once each visit. It is located in Lakeview/Bucktown, which is about 15 minutes from downtown N.O. I suggest any of the above mentioned items but my must have items are the voodoo rolls and corn and crawfish soup.

White beans and stewed rabbit. YUM! Extra large draft beer goblets: YAY! Gumbo: eh. Service: eh. Pretty good and I like that they move a little out of the super touristy, traditional "New Orleans" food and get down with traditional Louisiana. I thought the gumbo was boring, they def played it safe there. All in all satisfied tho, and I would definitely go back. Particularly for white beans and stewed rabbit; SO GOOD!

Been here plenty of times. And usually the food is AMAZING! I always felt like it was Bucktown's best kept secret because you had Deanie's that usually has an hour wait and you have R&O's which is next door with the same problem. But then you go into Food and Spirits (as my friends like to call this place) and the wait is usually no more than 15 mins. and the food isn't drenched in salt (like Deanie's) or sauce (like R&O's.) But last night, all my past experiences were forgotten. Or at least muted. I went there around 7:30 pm with a friend of mine. I was starving. She wasn't but had never been so wanted to keep me company. We order 1/2 dozen chargrilled oysters and a special of the night, softshell crab on their Lafayette sauce (creamy sauce with shrimp). Since she wasn't that hungry, we decided to split everything. And I'm so happy we did. The oysters came out burnt. It was swimming in an ocean of black oil that was at least 2 inches thick at the bottom of the plate. There were 5 pieces of day-old French bread thrown on top. It looked like they were ashamed of their presentation and was using the bread to hide the oysters. I didn't blame them; the dish looked like horrible. We tossed the French bread aside and tried to eat the oysters themselves. Because of their extremely overdone state, they stuck to the shell and the parmesan garlic stuff was like eating a salty mess. Neither one of us were impressed, especially after I had spent the beginning of the meal bragging about them serving the best chargrilled oysters in town. Then our meal arrived. The fried crab was swimming in a bed of a white sauce with 6 shrimp. The sauce was canned Alfredo sauce and the shrimp was mealy. There was no flavor to the pasta, sauce or shrimp. The crab, like the oysters, was drenched in salt- just salt. We finished the meal in silence. I was mortified that I had gushed about this place to my friend who is also a fellow foodie. With each bite we forced into our mouths, I felt like my credibility going down the drain. We finally ended the torture after three bites. I couldn't even stomach another taste since I had officially lost my appetite at that point. An hour later, it all came out the other end.

This was the best restaurant of our 7-day tour of Louisiana. The char-grilled oysters were incredible. Hush puppies, super good. Voodoo crab rolls, omg. We tried the fried catfish topped with pecand and menuiere sauce. Very good, different and interesting. Pasta with creamy crawfish sauce, very good. Butter beans and crawfish chowder A plus.

Love this place. Really good fried seafood, charbroiled oysters, salads, poboys & pasta dishes. This is the kinda place you go when you just wanna eat good food. That's really it. We always recommend this place to people from out of town because it's off the beaten path and NOT touristy at all. Tonight our little dinner group had charbroiled oysters, raw oysters, spinach & artichoke dip, blackened chicken pasta, shrimp salad, Crabcakes Pontchartrain, and Swamp Pasta. Everything was delicious, as usual. The baby changing table in the women's bathroom no longer says Sturdy Station, it says Turd Station. Real mature, guys.

After dining at a near by establishment (**cough** R&O's** cough**), I have to bump up my review. I had the same meal. Half gumbo/half popcorn shrimp salad. The gumbo is good. Shrimp and Okra from what I could tell. With lots of shrimp. (Better than so called "best gumbo" next door.) The salad was consistently large but the shrimp were less salty (a plus), and the mixed greens were more iceberg than greens :( Their portions are amazing for the price. Subbed fried catfish for the pork chop in the red beans special (without hassle) and got a plate full of catfish for only $1 more than the pork chop. AMAZING! They also have sweet tea (which said neighbor does not). I really like this place and will definitely be back.

Had the carboiled oysters and they were great! Loved the crawfish stew on the Catfish louizann but thought the catfish could have been better. I will definitely be back for the oysters. I also enjoyed the gumbo but it could be spicier.

Came here two weeks ago with 3 other people. The atmosphere was actually not bad, although did not care for the tables being so close together. The drinks were good and cheap. The food, I thought was actually pretty good. I had a cup of the Gumbo and a Shrimp Po-boy. Every shrimp po-boy I've ever eaten has been under seasoned, but these shrimp were seasoned beautifully. The reason I am giving this two stars is because the service was flat out garbage. The dining room was half empty when we sat down and began to fill up. We waited 45 minutes and still no food. My drink was empty and our server was no where to be found. People that sat at the table next to us (a whole 20 minutes after we sat down) got their food much quicker than us. When I asked, I'm guessing, the assistant manager, she said that she would be right back with our food. The food finally came 15 minutes after that, and surprisingly was not bad/cold. As we were eating, our server had STILL not come to our table to refill our drinks. Once we were finished eating, we waited another 10 minutes to get our checks after asking another server to get them. When we finally got the check, all four of our bills were on one bill, after explaining to her we wanted them split, and to our surprise they charged us 20% gratuity ON A 4 TOP. First of all, I am usually a great tipper, but when I get lousy service, you do not deserve 20% of anything. I called the manager over to explain the situation about how our food came after several tables sat after us, and how our server did not once come to our table except to take our order and give us the check. He said he would speak to her. About 10 minutes later she came back to pick up our check and gave us the WORST attitude ever. She rolled her eyes and in a sarcastic tone said "have a great life" and yanked the check from our hands. I am unsure exactly what her name was, she was a Spanish girl and her name started with a B. I want to say it was Belina or Belinda? or something of that sort. Avoid her at all costs. HORRIBLE experience!!!!!!

We've been here 3 times now and will definitely be adding to that. Each time we've been was a Friday or Saturday evening, after leaving our name and party size, we grabbed an area at the bar and ordered some draft Abita. Even though the place was packed we were seated before we could finish our first beer. The food was excellent with one exception. Grilled oysters, gumbo, the fried seafood, hushpuppies were all delicious. Only negative was a slightly overcooked grilled redfish. But I still ate the whole thing. Wait staff was friendly and as attentive as they could be given that they were packed each time we've been.

We arrived on a Monday night, it was slammed would've been a long wait for my cousin and I to eat inside and since it was great weather we decided to eat out on the patio. Had it been cold they have stand up heaters so wouldn't have been a concern either way. Server was very friendly but very rushed. The food came very slowly, but with the restaurant packed out I understandably expected it and didn't mind the wait. The atmosphere was so pleasant, everyone had a smile on their face and enjoyed company among friends. I had the blackened fish po-boy with a side of fries and my cousin had the stuffed catfish. Everything was amazing and after the meal was said and done we were ready to pass out with the stuffed content smile in your stomach kind of feeling. Would definitely recommend place to anyone and everyone.

So after watching them drop my steak and the waitress grab it with her hand and then try to serve it to me I will not be going back. And then Chris come out from the back and saids "I can put it back on the grill and kill every thing off of it". You have to be joking right? Nope he wasn't.

This place was great. My fiancé and I had the char grilled oysters, voodoo balls, corn and crawfish chowder, and shrimp feast. Everything was delicious but my favorite was the chowder, it was awesome. My only complaint was that the shrimp in stuffed shrimp still had the tail on. This would have been ok if the tail was sticking out of the breaded part but it was just all one big ball so you wouldn't know that the tail was still on until you starting chewing on it, which was not ideal. But other than that, I really enjoyed this cozy NO spot, I'd definitely come back and recommend.

My regular go-to place for great New Orleans food! I'm born and raised in New Orleans, but now live in Hawaii, and I come here every time I return! The best seafood gumbo I've had anywhere...everything else on the menu is delicious too! And, you can't beat the ice cold schooner of Canebrake for $4.

I thought I wrote a review about this place, but I guess I hadn't...well the food is yummy! I actually ordered the Swamp Pasta and it was really a dish! I enjoyed the creamy white sauce toppled over those huge with a delightful portion of angel hair pasta! This place is worth the hour wait!! BTW: I'm going today for dinner! I think I will try the seafood platter. xoxo FOR YOUR APPETIZER YOU MUST ORDER THE VOO-DOO CRAWFISH ROLLS THEY ARE YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMAZING!!! XOXO

Great service! I came in on a busy lunch hour and I was able to get in and out in around 30mins. Everything I have tried has been really good, from the shrimp po-boy to the pasta dishes. The shrimp on the poboy were fried to perfection and overflowing the bread. Definitely not a place for the health conscious, as everything is fried on made with cream.

Solid choice for authentic Cajun and New Orleans fare. Do get the onion rings, charbroiled oysters. The fried seafood is great, the fish is very fresh and tasty, the sauces and gravies are flavorful and compliment the mains well, without hiding the flavor of the main. Meh on the coffee, with so many options, why fail on something simple like this? Decent beer selection, lots of liquor selections but they seem to be a bit behind on current trends.

This place is immediately next door to R&O's and it is a bit nicer on the inside. This is actually a small local chain and they have two other locations on the Westbank and Northshore. The food has a slightly different flair than what you find at many New Orleans style food places and they have some unique items. I really prefer the food at R&O's so I only end up here when the wait is too long there but this place can certainly please the palate when needed.

It's hidden in Bucktown, but really authentic and amazing New Orleans type food. The service is amazing and the place is clean. I ordered the white beans and catfish and I don't usually prefer catfish, this one was so good.

Finally GREAT food in New Orleans. While I was in New Orleans I was so disappointed with the quality of food, taste and temperature. Only to find out from the locals I was in the wrong spot for good food. I was staying and eating in the French Quarter...well isn't that the place for the best food? Wrong...or at least a lot of the places are just for tourist. I needed to go where the locals go, and New Orleans Food and Spirits is the place. So if you are from out of town and you wanna go where the locals go eat,,,eat here. But don't spread the word around too much.

Words cannot express how bad of an express how bad of an experience we had at this restaurant, but I am going to give it a shot. We started by ordering a Stella, granted it was in a frosty mug but the beer was old and barely carbonated. Then we asked for a wine list and it was introduced by saying we don't have most of the wines on the list. Of course the first 2 wines we asked for ( best 2 on the list) they didn't have. When we finally found a wine they had, it took more than 20 min to deliver to the table and it arrived opened. No tasting was offered and they filled our glasses with white wine. As expected, it got warm. Our meal continued with us following our server's recommendations of the crawfish spring rolls and then the half half fried catfish/ shrimp platter. I thought the fried spring rolls were OK but my wife insisted that there was too much cheese inside. Our entree was a swing and a miss. We told our server that Acme was our benchmark standard for seafood and she said they would blow them away. They catfish was extremely fishy, shrimp was overcooked and salty, and the potatoes were not seasoned at all. At this point I had to complain. They took the entree of the bill and offered a complimentary desert which we accepted. The desert we choose was a Brownie a la mode, this tasted like store bought low quality product that we took 2 bites from, we were done. Never going back!!!

The Catfish Looziane was unfathomably wonderful! It was one of the finest meals that I have ever had in my life. The gumbo was also exceptionally delicious. What a transcendent experience!

Go there knowing it's a noisy, yatty, kinda old school place. It seems like it's family run. It was jammed in there- the three of us thought we'd never get a seat, but we were seated very quickly and greeted by a really friendly blonde yatty woman who seemed to be in charge- really sweet, like your mamma. The waitress came shortly thereafter, and she was really pleasant as well. Our order came out quickly, which was a surprise considering the crowd. Don't let the bland name food you- this is classic, artery-clogging yat food- right up there with Mandina's and Katie's. Get the crawfish and corn soup- it's awesome. I had a special which was a giant soft-shelled crab over "pasta Lafayette," which was this cream-based, seasoned sauce over angel hair- loved it. Located next door to R & O's, it's on the list for a return visit.

Went here with my picky daughter. She loved it. She had a seafood pasta dish and thought it was great. I've been here many times and food is always good. I usually get one of the daily specials and am always satisfied. Service is friendly.

My go to oyster place! While everyone else is raving about Drago's charbroiled oysters, this place's puts Drago's to shame! It's costs in the same ball park, if not a few dollars less. The oysters are much bigger! After coming here, I never went back to let Drago's rob me! It's a casual place. Very noisy and busy at lunch and dinner time. The wait can be very long. The swamp pasta tastes exactly like the pasta that comes with the Lobster Marco at Drago's. The service isn't always consistent. I think the only thing that you shouldn't waste money on is the steak. It's not terrible, but I think that there are plenty of other good stuff to try on the menu instead.

This is the 3rd time coming here, and its been terrible every time. I really try and give a place the benefit of the doubt and give them another try, but Im done, and should have learned my lesson the 2nd time coming here. But, the Third time is a charm they say right? Whelp yelp, heres my review: 1st time, fly in salad; 2nd time, cold seafood and wrong sauce; 3rd time, oysters were cold and so over fried there was nothing left in them but the hard breading. In fact, i should have known tonight would be another flop after we tried walking into the original entrance in the front of the building to find a tiny sign saying to enter through the new courtyard. (Side note - when you try to walk in the original entrance now, the door is closed with a table in front for people to eat. So when you try to open the door you just interrupt their meal and make it awkward and embarrassing for you all involved). So once we walked into the courtyard, there was no sign that this was the new entrance, so we knew a lot of people are making this same mistake. Now the funny part: We walk inside to the hostess stand, and the first thing we see is a wet, dirty table rag sitting next to the menus. We stand there a few seconds and a waitress with her hands full says someone will be right with you. Then, another waitress standing there says, "Yes, someone will be right with you in a second, cause i have no idea what's going on." And walks away. Now, another waitress brings us to our table, which is the table where the old entrance used to be! And then the waitress that is ours, is the one that just said she had no idea what's going on! HA! THEN, while we are eating our soup a family tries to open the door from the old entrance, all becoming embarrassed that they made it awkward and interrupted our meal. Fucking joke right!?? HAHA! Other things: -The potato salad is always covered in parsley shavings (Isn't that supposed to be a garnish?); "Excuse me, do I have green flakes all in my teeth?" -My drinks have never been refilled on time. -My food takes too long to come out. -The entire staff always seems lost and confused. Oh that might be because they are all hiding out in the dish-room instead of paying attention to the floor. The table next to me tonight even said, "Im not waiting around for her." And then stood on a chair to close the vent that was blowing in their faces. -We counted 6 waitresses tonight, or who we think were waitresses, and ten tables sat, including us. No one was being waited on. People were waiting for checks, drinks, and food for entirely too long. Most the staff was in the dish-room (including the manager), as i watched people's food getting cold on the pickup line. - The ponchartrain and lafayette sauce tastes bland, the exact same, and as if they came out of a pouch. - The crab meat in the stuffed shrimp was old tasting. - Raw oysters are tiny and not shucked properly; they were still stuck to the shell. -etc. Not once did i bitch about all the other stuff or ask for my money back. I always tip nicely, and i gave them many tries. I get it, I used to work in the service industry. But this is it. There are no more excuses for this place. They are unorganized, lost, and bad cooks. The 3rd time I asked for a discount off my bill for my terrible oysters. You would assume the manager would have come to apologize and give us our bill, but he was in the dish-room. This place sucks. The food is bland, boring, and overdone. Worst fried seafood. Will Never come back. This place needs to organize their staff and update their menu. Oh, and put a bench or a large plant in front of the old door entrance for the sake of you customers not looking like jackasses. And it wouldn't hurt to put another, larger sign outside that states to Enter through the Courtyard, outside of the courtyard.... You would assume bucktown would have amazing seafood.... not here. This place is just within comfortable range of home. Well, so is their food. Its time we all start thinking outside the comfort zone, and cook and create better, updated food, or drive to somewhere that does and with better service. PS- Im adding this the following day: I actually enjoyed my fried catfish that came with my shitty oysters, so i took my 3 pieces i had left home to eat for lunch, today. As i was eating them, my third piece was actually a piece of chicken!!! Isn't that considered cross contamination? Why is the fish and chicken being fried together? Or are they not being fried? They are frozen and thawed, which means its not fresh seafood! Im pretty sure this is a health code violation, as raw poultry and seafood should not be near or mixed with each other. They are really lucky i didn't find this at the restaurant. This place honestly needs to get their shit together. Fucking joke.
