Our wedding cakes were fabulous! The croquembouche was gorgeous and became a focal point in the reception room. The surprise groom's cake in chocolate with praline buttercream was simply decadent. We ordered way more cake than needed for our wedding of 50 guests and yet it was all gone by the end of the night. It was great working with Jean and I would recommend Maurice's to any bride-to-be.

As good as it gets! That sums this place up when referring to pasteries and king cakes.

They really have the best king cakes! I get the Ponchatoula Strawberry every year. It's perfect and HUGE! It's like a sandwich with Bavarian cream between the wonderfully fluffy dough. They then top it off with Chantilly cream, strawberries, and toasted almonds. So amazing and beautiful.

Eight weeks of Mardi Gras this year have inspired me to try eight king cakes that I have never had before in my ongoing quest to "get" all the hype over king cakes. Maurice French Pastry was on my list for their Galette Des Rois (my personal favorite because I'm not crazy about a ton of icing and/or sugar.) I stopped by this week to pick one up for work and I ended up leaving with two king cakes-- the one I planned on getting and one called the Ponchatoula (a "normal" brioche-style king cake with cinnamon, sliced in half and filled with Bavarian cream, Chantilly cream, slivered almonds and fresh strawberries.) This location is rights off of Vets with a decent amount of parking. There are no frills whatsoever on the interior, it is just a big room with a line of pastry cases and baker's racks of goodies in the front. The employees are friendly and make sure to remind you to put your cake on the floor of your car, just case. Both of the king cakes were absolutely delicious and devoured immediately by my co-workers. I definitely preferred the Galette Des Rois, but Ponchatoula was a nice surprise. The prices were right on par with any other bakery (I paid around $55 for two cakes.) I have a co-worker that is nuts for their Kugelhopf and brings them work pretty regularly. They do them in a ton of flavors. I like the plain/almond flavor the best. After making a visit myself and surveying the wide array of items in their cases, I would definitely recommend trying them out if you're in the market for a different kind of king cake or some pastries.

We've been coming here for years. No, I am Not a diabetic...haha. The squares are worth what you pay for. I love their specialty cakes too! I love everything here. Staff is friendly Good thing I don't live close or I would be soo overweight.

The best doberge cake in the world! We're big fans of their cakes. We don't just get birthday cakes from there, but we got our wedding cakes from there as well. Doberge, fresh fruit, you name it. They don't just do it they're the best! Give em a try. You won't be disappointed.

The doberge cakes and petit fours are the reason why my family has been coming to Maurice's for 20+ years. The doberge cakes come in various flavors and are always uber fresh and delicious. I like to get the half and half vanilla and chocolate to please all cake eaters or to have a slice of each! The petit fours are also top notch quality in freshness and flavor. If you are an intense chocolate lover (like myself) you cannot get a more intense chocolate cake than the dark chocolate truffle cake. It's so rich and decadent the smallest size will do for even a mid sized gathering because a small slice is all you can stand before the chocolate gremlin living inside you has had enough.

So, I've never ever been to Maurice's bakery, YET! But I've been hearing a lot of darn good things and Im a big French pastry fan. My friend surprised me with his oh so famous kingcake CAKE! lol. my God.. it is amaaazzingg. The filling was custard and light whipped cream with strawberry and topped with with more strawberries and mardi gras colored sugar and confectioner's sugar. whoa.. talk about a heart attack waiting to happen. lol my bf and I had a piece and it was just amazing. I didnt wanna share my cake with anyone but I end up cutting pieces of it and giving it away to my family. I just HAD to share Albin's goodness. its amazing. seriously. Now I really will go and check out his bakery and see what other French pastries he has!
(5)Bruno B.
it's fresh, looks ok, taste ok but it's not an authentic "french pastries", you can find the same or more at whole food tasting the same or better... i was expected a better selection "made in france".

I ordered a strawberry shortcake for my graduation party a week in advance. I asked if they can make it into a tooth shape and they said they will call me back to see if they can. They called back the next day and said it's possible. I spelled out my name twice for them, yet they still spelled my name wrong on the cake. The most important thing is that the cake looks like someone took a bite out of it. For over $150, I could've "cut" the cake myself into a tooth. If they weren't confident on taking this request, they could've said so and I still would've bought it with their regular shape. My brother picked up the cake, so I didn't get to see it until he got home. I quickly called them to complain. The female asked me to text message a picture of the cake for her. She responded with, "I can give you $25 back on the cake. The cake is a $148 cake before the cutout as it is. We miss priced it but I agree the shape could have been better.." Really? I always loved Maurice's cake, but this experience was just plain bad. My party is tomorrow, so it's too late to get another! I'm beyond pissed.

Everything we've had tasted old and stale. Creme brulee was Ok and I've had some kind a chocolate mud pie and it tastes old to a point that I've had to throw or away. I can tell that their cakes were old because the icing is breaking apart. I've had better experience at Angelo Brocato or Sucre with their pastries.

Great fresh local pastries!

fresh petit fours are the best here. My family has been ordering the doberge cakes from here for years. The prices keep going up and up.

Fine. I will share. I dont like to share but I want Jean-Luc to reap the benefits. He started his stuffed king cakes not too long ago but many people are still unaware of his wonderful king cakes. Also, they make palm size king cakes for easy shipping to that single anorexic friend who doesnt like sweets. It's round and has the baby in full view so as not to choke on a piece of plastic by surprise. This particular store is located close by Lakeside mall close by Fat City. Dont blink because you might miss it. If you parked on the side, you may catch some of that French baking aroma----does that make any sense? At any rate, if you see the owner make sure you greet him in French, he might hook you up with free pastry. ahahaha "Bonjour Jean-Luc!" I bought 2 king cakes; Ponchatoula and the General Foster; I recommend the Ponchatoula. This is a cake halved and stuffed with whipped and bavarian cream. Not at all sweet like those dressed up disguised coffee cakes. If you arent into the too sweet king cakes, try this on for size. It's light but heavy. They dont skimp on that whip and bavarian cream either. While chilling at the place, the owner came by to check up on us. He was so charming and talked about his king cakes. He was the first to introduce me to the French version of the king cake. I actually like this too because it was flaky puff pastry with what tasted like almond cake underneath. nom nom nom. Jean-Luc, we thank you for your king cakes, generosity and I hope that many more people start to patronize your bakery. Just FYI---those cakes are made year round. Those cakes are well worth the dough they charge you. If you want that coffee cake with sugar on top go get in line down the street over at Manny Randazzo's. Cash and credit, there are cakes, french bread, french macaroons, almondine madelines, petit fours, cookies, wedding cakes, etc. Gotta try their doberge cake next. They pricey. One stuffed small king cake cost almost $30. It's worth it though. Parking on rear and side. Please show Jean-Luc some love!

Last week I spent over $35.00 here and just threw out half of what I bought. I purchased these little footballs with a fleur de lis and the girl at the counter could not tell me what was in them. I thought they were like what we get a Poupart's in Lafayette but they were not like that at all; they were awful. I also bought two cannoli's and they were not very good, threw them away. Then the turtle cookies which I have had from here before and loved were not good either. So disappointed.

Just finished eating some french king cake that my mom lovingly brought to san francisco airport. I love the fragrant frangipane almond filling, and its great that the pastry isnt too sweet...it is a little too buttery though Next time im in new orleans i will have to try the doberge cake

When my wife and I were planning our wedding, we ended up at this place to scope out cakes since it was on the list of bakeries where we could use a credit. Typically those kind of deals are reserved for places that may not be up to snuff, but need the business so they make you a deal. Not this place. We tasted cakes here and they were amazing. I got a chocolate Doberge cake for the grooms cake that was awesome. I have read they have the original recipe passed down from the lady who invented Doberge. We have been back to patronize this place again getting small stuff like petit fours and eclairs, up to big stuff like strawberry shortcakes. We also love their Kugelhopfs. This place is the real deal, go here and you won't regret it.

I have ordered here before and it was great the first time. My second experience was the worst ever. I ordered the red velvet cake like I usually do but I made sure to order it a week in advance. When I picked it up it looked fine, I put it in the refrigerator and did not take it out until dinner. I took it to the restaurant for my sister's birthday and the cake was melted but when I cut into it some parts were frozen. It was disgusting and embarrassing to share with my sister on her special day. The one star I gave was for the customer service. Very sweet. I would love to try again but I cannot get pass what happen.

One of the best King Cakes ever. They have a fresh fruit King Cake in two varieties, Banana's Foster or Triple Berry either one is a winner. The fresh cream and fruit stuffed into the halved king cake makes for a divine treat. The also feature regular and original French style King Cakes. But the fresh fruit is a must try this season. BTW the regular cakes and pastries are great here to. A wonder New Orleans bakery.
(5)Shannon S.
They have a good range of pastries, pies, cakes, cookies and other sweets here. The owner and chef is from France and he is usually at this location. They are probably best known for their cakes, with their French style "galette des rois" King Cake being one of the most noted. I actually prefer the French style myself as I don't like all that colored sugar that most Louisiana style king cakes have on them. The prices seem to frequently get more expensive here but they maintain a good product. This is always a consistent place to go for your dessert needs.

The location on hessmer in metairie is not a "walk by and stop in place", it's the kind of place you go out of your way for. I bought a Kugelhopf and shared it with my family and neighbors. We cannot get over how delicious this cake was, it is a must try for everyone. The service was wonderful, the counter girls were very cheery and eager to assist all the customers in the store. I was even fortunate enough to speak with Jean-Luc, the owner and Chef, who was very pleasant to speak with. I will return to Maurices to try more items and the other locations.

I have been going to Maurice's since I was a young girl. After all these years the taste and service is consistent now as it was then. It seems like anything made with the almond flavor is wonderful! I am very particular eclairs and Maurice's nails it everytime. Thank you for bringing back memories everytime I go there. I purchased a German Chocolate cake for my daughter's birthday. It was delicious!!!

Great selection of pastries, pies, cakes, etc. They make what I beleive to be the best doeberge cake in the city. The chocolate and lemon doeberge is just out of this world. I get b-day cakes, anniversary cakes, party treats, etc. from here and I will never go to any other bakery. The employees here are so nice and always very helpful even when they are slammed busy, they still take their time to help you with anything you need. The only reason I didn't rate them a 5 out of 5 is their prices could stand to be a little lower. I paid over $60 for an 8 inch doeberge cake (half and half). But other than that I am completely satisfied with this business.

I'm so glad this place is in Metairie and not in the city... or else I'd weigh more then I do already! Everytime I stop by, I want everything. Everything is sooooo delish, you can't go wrong.
(4)Baron M.
They had some quality pastries. The girl behind the counter was friendly and the service was prompt. I have only been here once, so I can't really say much more than that. It was more than worth a second visit though.
(4)Todd S.
Jean Luc Albin is a genius. Every pastry I've had here is a little taste of heaven. I don't live anywhere near this place but we buy all our cakes here. The chambord cake is truly the most amazing cake in the history of man.

I swear by the fresh fruit tarts here. It varies ever so slightly but they usually come with a little Kiwi, pineapple, strawberry, raspberry and blueberry on top. Its the way I get myself to eat fresh fruit. I think one of the full sized ones costs 3.49 after tax...which may or may not be a bit pricey..but damn its good...the fruit is always fresh..the consistency of the tart filling beneath seems to slap some sense in to my palate and gets me liking fresh fruit like I should. Once they had mini fresh fruit tarts which were a buck and a half..a yummy bite. I have also had some cheesecake here in the past...I think that was a fruit topped version and frankly..I am wanting some. Notice a trend as I write this..Maurice's gets me eating fresh fruit!! Maybe some of you guys that are like me that dont eat enough should cheat and get yourself doing it!!.. I look at all the chocolate laced and sugared concoctions all over the place and it makes me want to expand my recently reduced waist again..It smells friggin awesome..damn I am hungry now..I vow to go chocolate decadent at Maurice's if this damn lint factor in my pocket ever clears up. I also noticed that Maurice's in addition to its rather wide selection of conventional not so conventional baked yummies also has a decent selection of sugar free breads and cakes. I suspect that with it being a full service bakery, if they don't have something you see..you can order it. DAMN! Writing this just made me pull a Pavlov's Dog...

I can't visit relatives in Mississippi without being asked to bring goodies from Maurice's bakery. It's become quite a tasty tradition!
(5)Mimi D.
My friend had a birthday party and his cake was ordered from here. OH EM GEE. The cake is a dark chocolate truffle filled with raspberry preserves and after the first bite, there was a party in my mouth!! I love sweets and this cake was the perfect chocolate cake I've had by far. I also get a very delicious carrot cake here! The carrot cakes are made to order and if your lucky enough, you might be able to get one without ordering it! They also have yummy bakeries.

I ordered a fruit tart for my daughter's birthday. When I picked it up, it had pineapple, few strawberries, kiwi, and raspberries on it. I took it out to the car and looked at it again and decided to take it back. It wasn't nothing like I had gotten at other bakeries, nor did it look like the small fruit tarts for sale in the case. I was asked what was wrong. I told the lady it didn't have very much fruit on it. There weren't any blueberries or blackberries and 3 raspberries. I had ordered the medium size which was $30. I was told they ran out of the berries and put them on the small tarts in the case; and they use seasonal fruit and blueberries weren't in season. She took it into the back and it was remade and looked better. Not was good as Whole Foods or La Madeleine.

Gorgeous pastries. They made my wedding cake and it was beautiful and delicious. One of the top N.O. places for cakes! Maurice is the real deal. The king cakes are amazing, too!
