I've been here many times, but my most recent visit was unsatisfactory. The food is normally average, but this time was certainly below average. I don't know for sure but the queso did not seem house made although the menu says so. It seemed liked watered down Velveeta and Rotel. I ordered the chicken fajita nachos. It was actually just 3 regular sized corn tortillas with melted cheese and unseasoned grilled chicken with a scoop of guacamole and sour cream. They come with jalapeños, which I omitted. I suppose the grilled onions on top justified the "fajita" name??? The corn tortillas were also very soggy from the greasy melted cheese. Not my idea of "nachos". I noticed they had "house made" cayenne-buttermilk ranch dressing on the menu. It sounded great as a dip for my nachos. I didn't even mind the $1.25 charge. I was very disappointed to find it was nothing more than regular pre-made ranch. It could've been a misunderstanding when ordering since I received a weird look for asking for ranch. I did specifically say "cayenne-buttermilk ranch" though. It may have been hard for the bartender to hear my order since he had his back to me and keying in my order as I said it. I always hate that! Other than that he was great. The refried beans were okay. The guacamole had that aftertaste that pre-made guac tends to have. It did not taste like fresh guac at all. I probably won't be back or recommend to others. Way too many other fantastic Mexican restaurants nearby.

I really love the atmosphere here and I tell you the nachos and margaritas ate always awesome.

This is a decent little Mexican place. It is relatively inexpensive and the service is always good. The salsa is a definite highlight. Paired with the margaritas, this is a good Happy Hour option. Pretty standard menu items, not much of anything out of the ordinary. This place won't knock your socks off, but you could do worse for Mexican in New Orleans.

Super fast and courteous staff. Nice atmosphere and not crowded. Love the bean dip which comes with salsa...both tasty and fresh. Had tacos and enchilada with charro beans very tasty and delicious Highly recommend eating here while in town

Casa Garcia has been around for as long as I can remember. Its not my favorite Mexican restaurant in the NOLA area, but it is a solid performer and does serve up some good dishes whenever I do visit... which is usually only incidental to other errands I may randomly happen to be running in that part of Kenner. My favorite item, oddly enough, is the queso appetizer served with fresh tortillas in addition to the standard chips. Dipping those steaming hot tortillas in queso is just awesome! I usually fill up on those before the entree's ever come out. BOTTOM LINE: Mexicano muy bueno in the Kenner area.

The only place in town to get Chili Rellenos right. If you're expecting fast-food Tex-Mex, with too much cumin and not enough cilantro, then you're gonna have a bad time. This is as close to Mexico as you're going to get.

I just can't justify coming here for the food anymore. Every time I eat here the food has just been really disappointing and I consider myself pretty lenient when it comes to mexican food. I mean I'll eat almost anything. And I know I can't be the only one who feels unsatisfied by this place because I'm not even a terribly picky reviewer. My top Mexican go-to list are usually: Carreta's Grill, Juan's Flying Burrito or Superior Grill. But I wanted to try something new. I've really TRIED to like this place. I have visited Casa Garcia maybe 3 times in the past year because it had this great reputation but I felt so disappointed every time and wanted to keep giving it another shot thinking maybe I was ordering the wrong things somehow. The queso is some sort of watered down cheese substance (and not like in a hot cheese kind of way, you could literally pour this stuff into your coffee like its a bowl of cream), the chili relleno had the same cheese inside it so that sort of turned me off, nachos are always soupy and soggy (even right when they get to the table), the fajitas are small, the rice is stale. I don't know I mean I just don't get anything out of this place and I happen to LOVE Mexican food! A friend of mine always gets the enchiladas and he swears by it so maybe that's what you need to get there. But I'd hate to try it for the fourth time only to be further disappointed. Not to mention the sanitation problem this place seems to have. You can tell they don't clean much, which to be fair, isn't some big requirement for me. There's plenty of hole in the wall shady looking places with great food right? But what I CAN'T ignore is the extremely dirty silverware. I mean there were GIANT obnoxious unmissable amounts of food caked onto my fork and knife from the last person. It looked like they didn't even bother soaking it in some hot sanitized water before throwing it in the dishwasher and baking it right on there. It was pretty gross. I jacked the silverware from the next table over but found the same thing. It took browsing through 3 different sets to find a suitable fork. I mean....c'mon that's just disturbing on so many levels.... The only reason this place really even gets 2 stars is because I've always had a pleasant experience if I JUST sit at the bar and drink a margarita. Their happy hour (2-4-1 margaritas) is a pretty solid deal and the complementary bean and salsa dip that comes with the chips are actually surprisingly decent! The bartender has always been really friendly and knowledgable about tequilas and we have a nice chat. However, you basically NEED to go visit the bar and drink your sorrows away after encountering the food there.... Sorry Casa Garcia, but we just aren't compatible. Maybe I'll come back for a happy hour special once in a blue moon but that's about all I can give you :-(

I was craving Mexican food & thought of Casa Garcia... We went tonight & omg I know I don't ever have to go back... The service was great but the food was very disappointing... Tasted like they nuked some frozen TV dinners & charged us 50 bucks... Save time & hit Taco Bell instead... At least Taco Bell taste good...

Best bean dip *ever*! I am not a big fan of their food, but I keep coming back because they have really cool bartenders that make a delicious top shelf margarita! I would almost love to just sit by the bar, drink my top shelf margarita, and only eat their bean dip... lol

Used to be one of my favorite spotsbut my last visit has me doubting that I will return, the ground beef has that cheap Taco Bell taste all new servers and the restaurant overall is not very clean and smells dinky, something has changed I still see the same manager, however many things are not the same.the iced tea was like water and the cueso was like mush!I guess nothing last forever!

Been eating here for a long time. Food is fairly consistent. Service is friendly all the time. The salsa is the only thing that lacks, but it is complimentary so I guess I shouldn't complain too much about it.

Wish I would have ordered something else, as the seafood enchilada was just a little too creamy for me. Service was great. Would return to try something new.

My visit to Casa Garcia was very nice. I personally consider this one of the best restaurants in Metairie. I'll be making a list of pros and cons that I have with this restaurant. Pros * Their has never been a wait line in the numerous times I have been to this restaurant. * The portions in the restaurant are very large. I would always bring home a box still filled with food. * The servers at the restaurant are very nice and outgoing. * Although the food portions are very large, the restaurant is affordable for anyone to attend. Cons * The only con for this restaurant is that the setting is very simple and not unique. Sure, their is a fountain in the middle of the main room, but that's about all there is to it. Final Review If I could, I would give this restaurant a 4 1/2 stars for having so many pros that I have listed. I definitely reccomend this place for everybody in the Kenner area.

I like the atmosphere inside this place, but the food is only so-so for me. My wife and I went recently and I was a little disappointed. Pro's: 1) Interior was fun. 2) Friendly, informative waiter. 3) Food was acceptable and reasonably priced, but nothing to write home about. Con's 1) Terrible parking lot. Very hard to find a place to park. 2) Mexican food is usually impossible to mess up, but I felt like my entree was too cheesy and the meat wasn't great quality.

  • Mallory E.

This place has really good margaritas and bean dip, but other than that I would skip going to this place. Mom got the shrimp fajitas and I got one of each tacos. Mom really liked the shrimp fajitas (I tasted one and didn't really enjoy the taste of the shirmp) and the meat in the taco was pretty dry. Meh - I don't need to go here again.

Came here because it was recommended as an authentic Mexican restaurant to me (I was looking forward to carne asada tacos). I found it to be more of a Tex-Mex style restaurant which wasn't half bad but the closest they got to carne asada tacos was ground beef. The service was superb and they were willing to make substitutes on some of the combination plates which not all restaurants are willing to do. Overall it was nothing too memorable, but I would definitely go back in the future!

I wish I could give this place 2.5 stars, but 3 just seems too high. I love going out to eat Mexican food. We went to Cass Garcia today for my boyfriend's mom's birthday. The chips, salsa, and complimentary bean dip are very good. Unfortunately no one bothers to bring more salsa when you run out. When my boyfriend's dad and I were out of water, instead of refilling them, the waitress put a pitcher of water on the table. It is nice to be able to refill your drink whenever you want, but I almost felt like I was at a chuck e cheese birthday party. I usually order either a chicken taco salad or chicken quesadilla when out to eat Mexican (I'm adventurous, I know). I decided I would go with the quesadilla because those are very hard to screw up. When it came out I wasn't very happy just by the looks of it. It is one large tortilla folded over with a ton of cheddar cheese and a little chicken. It didn't taste bad, but it wasn't very good. It kind of tasted like the ones I use to make at home in high school. I would much rather the quesadillas at Carretas with the queso in them. Not to mention those are three dollars cheaper...

My family & I love this place! The food is almost always good. Great service & you get a lot of food for a reasonable price. We will continue coming here. Love their margaritas too! Bean dip, salsa & queso dip is excellent. We usually get nachos & gigantic burritos (which you always end up taking home because it is so much food). I have had flautas, chalupas & enchiladas which are all very tasty. Give it a try!

This is the second time we have eaten here. Both times the food was excellent, from the fresh, warm chips w/ both salsa and bean dip to the delicious chimichanga. They would've gotten 5 stars except for they sat us in the bar. Usually that would be fine, but today we felt like we were in the employees break room. The LOUD bartender (Leo) wouldn't shut up and the waitress was only a little better than okay. At times there were as many as 5 or 6 employees standing around-even climbing up onto one of the booths right next to us putting up Christmas decorations. That didn't change the fact that this is the best Mexican food we have found in NOLA. Just wish they would pay attention to details-$34 for lunch leads me to expect a little more professionalism.

This place has been around forever! Food is pretty good, there's a good bit of variety on the menu as well, so I always try to get something different. If you are in the area, you should definitely stop by if you want tasty food and friendly service.

The family and I ate here on Labor Day, 2015. We wanted to go to another restaurant, but it was closed, so we stopped at Casa Garcia. The inside of the restaurant is very pleasant. The fountain is a nice touch. The chips, salsa and bean dip were very good. We greatly enjoyed them. We also all agreed that the tortilla soup was excellent. It was when the entrees arrived that things went down hill. The sour cream and guacamole were fresh, but the entrees were just average at best. The quesadillas had too much cheese and not much else flavor. The meal was not bad, but there are better options close by.

Well my night at Casa Garcia wasn't my usual. We have eaten here maybe once a week for a very long time but we won't any more. The waiter accidentally spilled salsa and other food from plates he was cleaning all over my back. The food went in my hair, my back, my butt, and in my purse that was by my chair. I understand that accidents happen but the response from management was just rude. Our waitress tried to get a little compensation for us but management actually said no because it wasn't a problem with the food. It is just good customer service. I didn't go to a restaurant so I could run home and get a shower and soak my clothes for salsa stains. The manager took 15 percent off but was charging the waiter for it. Not good business Tony! I am very disappointed in the attitude of management and will NOT be returning to spend my hard earned money on people who don't care about the customers that help pay their bills.

Been coming to Casa for 10 years. Only ate in the restaurant side twice! I am a bar guy! The best margaritas in town for the money and I have had them all over town. Bean dip is great and salsa is usually very good, although inconsistent. Food is usually good, although also hit and miss depending on the kitchen staff on a given night. Sit at the bar and talk with long-time bartender Dave. He will keep laughing and well libated. In short, if you are looking for decent (sometimes very good) food, great margaritas, and a very good bartender, this might be your spot. Zero in on one or two menu items and enjoy the drinks and company.

Would give a 3.5 but no halves. Went for dinner, their chips, salsa and bean dip was good. Had the tostadas or chalupas as they call them they were good but really needed more flavor. My boyfriend had the chicken burrito and he felt the same way. Service was alright but not great nor horrible. Atmosphere is nice with the cute fountain in the center of the dining area.

I went to Casa Garcia last night seeking good Mexican and it was terrible. I recall this place being good quality food, great atmosphere, and great waiters. First, the appetizer (shrimp cocktail) came out and it had a small big crawling on the outside of the tortilla shell. I didn't think much of it so whatever. I ordered steak fajitas and my friend ordered the chili rienos (probably spelt wrong). I substituted rice for the beans it came with, and upon deliver the food look pretty good. I open my tortilla shell, put some onions and meat in the tortilla and scooped some rice into the tortilla. As I scooped some rice and put it in the tortilla I noticed something moving, yes again a bug this time a termite blended in perfectly with the rice. At this point my meal was pretty much ruined. I tried to stomach eating the meat and onion fajita platter but it the meat was not tender, and the quality was terrible. This place has become more and not rundown since the first time I ate here. It is nothing more than a place living off it's once good reputation. I didn't send the food back because at the end of the day it isn't worth it. They probably pick the big out and send you the order right back everyone knows the "urban myths" attached to sending your food back. Needless to say this experience was enough for me to take it off the list of Mexican spots I occasionally hit. I guess the short list now includes Coyote Blues and Carreta's Grill.

Without a doubt one of the very best Mexican Restaurants in the surrounding area. My personal favorite is their complementary Bean dip and Salsa with Corn Chips. It is a decent drive from downtown but, this place is an absolute must go if you are visiting!

We were in that part of the 'burbs and decided we wanted Mexican. My wife's first choice was closed, so we decided to stop in at Casa Garcia as friends had talked well about the restaurant. In a nice surprise, they still put chips, salsa, & bean dip on your table before taking your order. I ordered carnitas (braised pork) taco as it was something different. It was served with black beans and Spanish rice. My wife and her sister split an order of the shrimp & chicken fajitas. There was enough on the plate that her lunch came home with us. The restaurant was relatively quiet for being fairly full. No complaints about the staff. I much preferred the food here over my wife's first choice.

Everything about Casa Garcia is pretty average. The food is average, high volume Tex Mex. The queso is okay, not bad but not great either. I do appreciate that they bring out fresh, warm tortillas to enjoy with the queso. The service is also pretty average. Not super fast like a lot of other Mexican restaurants, but not terribly slow either. Prices are pretty standard for what you get. And my feelings about Casa Garcia are pretty average, too. I spend a lot of time dropping off and picking up from the airport, so from time to time I end up here just because I'm in the area and sometimes a girl just needs a bowl of queso. I would never make a special trip out to Kenner just to eat here though.

It's just so good...I recommend telling them to cook your fajitas without grease, lard or butter. Amazing. Complimentary delicious bean dip with the salsa and chips. Very kid friendly...they even have a little fountain my kid makes a wish in with pennies.

I have eaten here before and the food has always been good. Today, I went for lunch and the food was still good, the restaurant was only about 35% full but the waiter acted as if he did not want to be there, and he definitely did not want me sitting at his table. He tried several times to clear my plates while I was eating, I got no drink refill (I ordered a coke) and he was just unhappy. He never introduced himself, but according to my receipt, I was served by Ernesto S. Normally, I have to wait a few minutes to get my check once I asked for it, but he practically threw my bill at me. It is obvious that the waiter did not want to be there, and if he had to be there, he did not want any customers.

Food was decent tex-mex and the bean dip was good. My partner and I both got the chimichanga. He got the ultimate margarita and I got the house margarita. Both were strong but the house didn't taste great. Fountain in the middle of the room is sweet but overall decor is lacking.

  • Lorey F.

If I could give zero stars, I would. This is the most disgusting place I've ever been to. The food is all very processed, I doubt anything is actually made in house. If you want processed frozen food, you're better off going to a grocery store. The enchilada sauce is extremely salty. The tamales were clearly not made there, again another frozen dish. The flan was AWFUL. Although the flavors were somewhat nice, the consistency was not of flan. It was more of pudding. Please hire a new chef, different management, something. And most importantly, use fresh ingredients!!

  • Shannon S.

This is a decent TexMex place with one of the larger menus in the area. The interior is nicer than you might expect from the outside and its often quite crowded. You get two dips brought out with your complimentary chips and its good to have the selection. They have some combo platters that let you sample a good range of their offerings. Nothing is really great here and all the sauces seem to end up tasting very similar with most things being covered in gooey melted cheese. The service is usually adequate to a bit slower to get drink refills with larger groups. You get what you pay for here and the combo plates will definitely leave you full. This is a consistently good spot to get average TexMex in the soulless suburban strip mall sprawl of Veteran's.

Parking is a pain in the A##, once you get in and seated its good place. The food is good, the servers are very nice. Some of the prices are little high for what you get but overall the food is good, not great but good. I wouldn't go out of my way for it but if i am around them and craving Mexican and the parking lot is not crazy i would go back.

This place is great! We were in the neighborhood and I used yelp to search the area for Mexican restaurants. We really enjoyed our lunch. The chips and salsa were great and the bean dip was an extra perk. Our server was very attentive. The margarita I had was okay at best, but I didn't opt for top shelf.

This has to be the nicest Mexican restaurant I've ever stepped into in Louisiana so far. It reminded me of a Mexican restaurant my aunt took us to in California. At the entrance by the host desk is photos of drew brees and wife with owners hanging on the wall. This place seems like a popular lunch spot the dining room looked almost completey full. We came here because my sister was craving their bean dip. I ordered the chicken quesidilla and tortilla soup. The tortilla soup was very good like the kind your old mexican grandma would make. Service was great can't wait to come back and try their spinach and cheese enchiladas.

This food is about as Americanized and bland as you can get while still calling it Mexican food. I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a remotely authentic experience. It would be a fine place to take kids though. It's cheap and family friendly. And for the adults, a strong margarita doesn't hurt.

    (2)
  • Robert H.

Shrimp, rice, onions, cilantro, in a spicy spaghetti sauce...or I mean shrimp a la diabla or whatever you call it. Make no mistake Jefferson parish residents, this is not an authentic Mexican restaurant. Not even remotely, that is why people keep referring to it as Tex-Mex, although Tex-Mex is totally it's own cuisine, people tend to use that term to describe "Americanized" Mexican food. Those of us who have actually been to Mexico, or even a resturant that Mexicans actually patronize, you would know this isn't even close to authentic. Calling it un-authentic or Tex-Mex doesn't mean it's necessarily bad, but it's the truth. And the truth shall set you free. The place is nice, service is kind of nice too. Food not so much. I got the shrimp diabla or whatever. It was gross, tasted like spicy spaghetti sauce. I really expected something much more fantastic, especially since it's been around for awhile, and there is another location. But it's not. Everything at our table was quite mediocre. Prices are a little steep for such mediocre food as well, you are better off going to taco bell folks. More flavor, and if your lucky you can also get some pizza from the pizza hut half.

I went there for lunch last week and the bean dip is great. I had the number 5 on the lunch menu which is the chicken taco, chicken enchilada, and the chicken tamale. It was all very delicious. I enjoy going there every few weeks for lunch

I'm definitely a fan, but i would also be a fan of having a driver take me out to Casa Garcia located on the metairie/kenner line (in a rinky dink shopping center) because this is a trek. I am not a huge fan of mexican, but this place rocks! Best salsa in town, good chips, and a complimentary bean dip to go with the salsa to start you off. Not too shabby. The margaritas are "famous", tastey, and strong. Decent price for a pitcher as well. I can't really tell the difference in all the different margaritas...i tend to like them all. To be completely honest, my buddy and i could have done a pitcher of margaritas and the two dips with chips and been completely satisfied, but instead, we decided to press our luck and move to the combination fajitas....we would suffer for this decision in the morning to come. The chicken fajitas were the winner! There was a lot of stuff on the menu that i would love to have tried, but i will have to save it for next time. Quality is high, value is good, and the atmosphere is pretty cool. I look forward to my next trip out this way.

We had been prior Taqueria Corona fans, but the prices of TC have started going up while the quality had been going down. I've been going to Casa Garcia instead. Like others, I had previously ignored Casa Garcia because of the location, but it's been our go-to spot from now on. Free chips and salsa that come with a side of beans. I usually get the enchiladas with queso and red sauce. So good. Hubby generally gets the super burrito and is always pleased. I will be honest, I've never dined in, so I can't speak to that. I like it though and I'll definitely go back.

I heard lot's of great things about Casa Garcia, so I was excited to go. I thought the queso was good-- they have a bunch of different kinds from plain to something with meat in it. I thought the food was ok, but my boyfriend was not super-impressed; he didn't feel that the food was particularly flavorful.

  • Paul C.

Terrible food!! You'd be better off just going to taco hell (taco bell). Figured the enchiladas would be a safe bet for a mexican restaurant in new orleans, but I was horribly wrong. The sauces they use had very strange flavors, like everything came right out of a can. The refried beans were definitely from a can, not a doubt in my mind about that. I know your choices for mexican (tex-mex) are limited, but I would seriously consider another restaurant.

Wow...how to start..lets break it down: Been here more often than I want. I dread birthdays now. I have to play nice because I get dragged here by family members time and time again. Service: The service is spotty at best. Wait staff are polite, but impersonal and can't seem to muster even an ounce of fake enthusiasm for their job or customers Cleanliness: The place often smells of mold and is often littered with chips and salsa stains even at opening hours. The last time I went there were 2 dead roaches under the table as well. Plates were chipped and dirty. Food: For a Latino family owning and operating the joint, the food is pretty atrocious. The chips were the best part of the meal. The rice is mushy and bland, the beans are pretty much out of a can and the tacos are essentially expensive versions of what I can get at Taco Bell. Their enchiladas are a lava mush of sauce and cheese. I know this review comes off as pretentious, but it's not elitist to expect great food. Bottom line, the food here is awful.

By far the best margaritas in town, go see Dave at the bar, ask to top drink off w/ grand gala ( mexican brandy) you'll be on your way to doing the mexican hat dance! Food quality not at all authentic, tweaked for the western palate, flavors are somewhat like corporate Mexican food, standardized flavors, portions are small, service is good, parking sucks

I am really surprised to see 3 stars rating for this place. I ve been there thrice and really like the drinks and Mexican style seafood. Never expected Mexican seafood to taste that good. Ambience is kinda dull but service was good. Try the classic margarita and fish entree, price is also reasonable by NOLA standards.

The person that recommended this place swore it was awesome so we went, Umm yeah I wasn't too impressed. Let me explain, I am not a fan of the restaurants that serve salsa that is more of a ketchupy, tomato sauce base, its just not my thing. I prefer a fresher salsa over the "cooked" I got beef fajitas and the meat just didn't taste right to me. So my question is how do you mess up fajitas?? The person that I came with really enjoyed the food, of course, but I am just not a fan. I know people have their own versions of mexican food aka tex mex that they like and CG just didn't do it for me. The margarita was good but not memorable. In short, I've had better hence the 2 stars.

I have no idea why it took me five years to eat here. This is the best Tex Mex I've had in New Orleans. The staff was really friendly and helpful, and the food was fantastic. If you're looking for San Antonio quality Mexican food, Casa Garcia is top notch.

The dip, as people keep saying, was awesome. But I didn't go there for the dip. I went there to eat dinner. And did we ever pick a bad night. They kept apologizing for the food being so late, and then when they finally managed to bring it out, it was lukewarm. 90 minutes for lukewarm food. My fajitas came out on a regular plate, b/c they had somehow managed to run out of clean fajita plates. And my food, after waiting for it for 90 minutes, was LUKEWARM. For me, this is their 3rd strike. I really enjoyed the restaurant in e past, but after having other bad experiences (the busboy had to wait on us once) I'm finished.

This place is by far the best Mexican we' ve had so far in the Nola area. The salsa is delicious and the complimentary bean dip is very good also! We ordered queso and grilled chicken fajitas and we enjoyed it all. The service was excellent!

I don't know what's going here, but it seems everytime I go to dine here, the food quality gets lower, lower, and lower. I have a very mixed reviews for the staff. When it's extremely busy the staff has excellent service, but when it's entirely slow, the staff are completely horrible.

Went here for my first time today for lunch. Nice way to break up the work day. The service was friendly, but a tiny bit slow and put me a bit over my alloted one hour lunch. Not really a big deal at any rate. The chips, salsa and bean dip to start is a nice touch. My meal, seafood enchilada/chicken enchilada combo plate was very good, my boyfriend's chicken and beef fajitas were excellent. The chicken was super tender and some of the best I have had in fajitas. I'll be back!

Ok, I know this place doesn't have the best reviews, but it is kind of a guilty pleasure for me. I have a group from work that meets here at least once a month for dinner and drinks and I have to say that they have my absolute favorite Sangrias. I also love the chalupas, which are like tostados. We usually stay for 2 or so hours everytime we go and each of us only pays about 25.00, so not bad for dinner and drinks. My only issue with this place is the service. They seem to just kind of ignore us after we pay, and no one bothers to come back and refill water glasses or ask if we want additional drinks. It isn't because the restuarant is full either. I have been a few times and it seems like there is always an issue with service.. they really have to work on that part, but the food is really good. Oh, I also like that they have a "chip set up" which is beans, salsa, and chips to go for around 7 or 8 bucks... so, you know I have to take some home..

Mediocre at best. They do a great job here with decor. You think you're at a great Mexican restaurant but other than the decor, everything else screams "take these gringos money!" The hostess usually has an attitude and one time we came in 30 minutes before closing and were told that the kitchen was already closed. Obviously business was slow and they wanted to close up but you can't do that, it's the definition of bad business. We never went back. Casa Tequila on Williams is significantly better all around.

I am an Asian girl that has a huge appetite for Mexican food. I lived in SoCal for almost all of my life and somewhat had been influenced by the Mexican culture. With that being said, I know what a good taco tastes like. This restaurant is overrated and has the worst fajitas and fish tacos ever! I moved to NOLA recently and stumbled across this restaurant while going for pho run, it's in the same plaza as Pho Bang, which by the way, is another mediocre restaurant, I always see a huge line forming outside the doors of Casa Garcia around 6PM, judging by the crowd, I was pretty happy to know there's a decent Mexican restaurant nearby. I came in for dinner with my hubby one weekend, waited for an hour before getting seated, and was offered free chips, bean dip, and watery salsa while our food was being prepared. Chips and dips were surprisingly good, but not our dinner. We ordered the beef fajita, fish tacos, and tortilla soup. The soup came out within five minutes but our entrees didn't come out for half an hour later. The soup was OK, but the entrees were horrible. The beef was so chewy and thick and under seasoned. The fish tacos had really soft textures, as if they had used frozen fish without letting it thawed first. It was under seasoned and had this horrible fishy smell. We couldn't believe we waited for 1.5 hours total just to taste this nasty stuff, and we were hungry! Service was alright, nothing spectacular. Over all, not a good experience and will never come back again.

I LOVE Mexican food, but always ignored Casa Garcia because of the strip-mall location. We've been twice now. Service is very attentive and friendly. HOT, fresh chips arrive promptly, along with decent (fresh!) salsa and a small dipping bowl of warm real refried beans! Definitely a treat!! The dinner salad I ordered was a small portion for the price, but I was happy that it contained FRESH ingredients. The chunks of bleu cheese in the dressing were too large. I tasted the ranch dressing. Ick! Definitely from a bottle that requires zero refrigeration. I had the "house" dressing the second time and, while not horrible, I wouldn't recommend it. The first visit we shared the pork "fajitas for two." Unless the "two" are ravenous grown men, it simply was too much food -- enough for four people! The meat was very nicely seasoned and cooked. I would have liked a lot more bell peppers and onions and less meat. It comes with the ranchero beans - not refried. So, if you're a refried bean fan like I am, make sure to ask for refried instead. Next time we do fajitas, we will get the regular portion to share. On our second visit, we shared the chicken quesadilla. Both the quesadilla and the guacamole it came with, were delicious! The prices are very typical and reasonable for sit-down Mexican food. There are not many booths (my seating of choice). Other than that, the décor and atmosphere are warm, clean, and casual. There is a large parking lot, but spaces are small and many are reserved for other businesses in the mall. Overall, it was a great experience both times and I absolutely will go back many times!

My husband and I come here whenever we are craving Mexican food (which is pretty often!). Complimentary salsa, bean dip, and chips are served as soon as you are seated. We usually get top shelf frozen margaritas which are delicious! Our favorite dinner here are the chicken and shrimp fajitas..they don't skimp on the shrimp at all! The guacamole and pico de gallo that come with the fajitas hit the spot. We are never disappointed when we eat here!

It gets three stars because the salsa was delicious (that is how I judge a mexican restaurant) and the guac was definitely fresh but a bit over priced in my opinion. As a vegetarian there are not many options on the menu and I avoided the rice and beans just to be on the safe side. The waitress and the folks I spoke to on the phone were a bit confused when I asked if the beans and rice were vegetarian so it was better to be safe than sorry. I was able to sub mexican corn or fresh veggies which was a nice option to have. Shoulda gone for the veggies as it was just plain, bland corn. My entree was cheese enchiladas and the portion was good sized for the price. However the salsa verde was a total disappointment. Not really flavorful at all. Ahh California how I miss you and your riches of yummy Mexican food!

Consistently good Mexican food, usually with good service, and a very reasonable bill. It all starts with the free chips, salsa, and bean dip. Throw in an order of queso for the boys and you could look at the menu all day and get filled up by the time you order. All Good: Civiche, Quesadillas chicken or beef; crab/shrimp quesadilla different but very good. Flautas...one of my usuals, crispy flavor fun to eat! Seafood enchilada worth the meatless challenge, along with the chicken enchilada suiza. Tacos al Carbon Mexican City Style is simple, excellent, and tasty. The guac in many meals or for order is very good. My son ate the LaTortaLoca, mexican version of the po boy....good and spicy! Drinks aren't bad either. Rib-eye was alright. Nothing special in size or taste, but I'm sure it's right for someone. Still not the place to replace my great-grandmother's or uncle's tamales....or the tamales I ate in Oaxaca....dark brown/black chicken mole wrapped inside a corn husk.....AWESOME!!!! the search continues...... Great place for the kids, family, large parties and lunch. Adios! Parking can be tough sometimes....but it usually works out....

As someone who has been lucky enough to sample several types of Latin cuisine and lived in Texas for nearly 20 years, I could conservatively say that I am a connoisseur of this type of food. Having said that, 90% of the food at this restaurant is awful. There are some good things, but those bright shining dishes are few and far between. That coupled with the fair service and an imbecilic owner prove that the only thing keeping this place open is the memory of better food. My grandparents, parents and most of my family have been going to this restaurant long before it got new owners and a horrible food makeover. Still to this day, a group of about 15 of us go every few months, but hopefully, today was our last visit. Some ladies had purchased a gift card and not only were they told it wouldn't work and berated by the owner, this "man" continued to walk around the place mumbling obcinities and telling each of his wait staff about how we were crazy. He did NOTHING to remedy an easy problem. His arrogant attitude is sure to sink this business eventually. DO NOT GO HERE.

Best Mexican food in NOLA. Have to rate this place 3 stars because of what I'm used to eating in Houston. Otherwise, a definite 4 stars. Great service and food.

This place is so good. I think the free salsa AND bean dip is the best. Everyone knows how cheap bean dip and salsa is to make, its nice to see a restaurant give them for free instead of charging $3. and they are delicious. The food is always hot when it comes to your table and they get it out quickly. The margaritas are close to perfect and the service is great

I would almost love to just sit by the bar, drink my top shelf margarita, and only eat their bean dip... lol

I would almost love to just sit by the bar, drink my top shelf margarita, and only eat their bean dip... lol

The only place in town to get Chili Rellenos right. If you're expecting fast-food Tex-Mex, with too much cumin and not enough cilantro, then you're gonna have a bad time. This is as close to Mexico as you're going to get.

  • Rick S.

This place is great! We were in the neighborhood and I used yelp to search the area for Mexican restaurants. We really enjoyed our lunch.

  • Rick S.

  • Brent L.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
