I judge Thai restaurants by their Pad Thai. If that were the only measure, this place would definitely get five starts. The Pad Thai is absolutely spectacular. I was certainly not expecting it. Noodle plates come with an egg roll, crunch noodles, and edamame. But back to the Pad Thai - so delicious!!! They're a little skimpy on the actual meat part, but the flavor of the noodles is so perfect that it didn't matter to me. I actually don't think the flavor is like what you'd actually get in Thailand - I think they actually improved on the Pad Thai. Certainly it tasted different from any Pad Thai I've ever had. Not in an inauthentic way, but the chef adds his or her own touch and it makes it wonderful. The Thai tea is not quite right here, which is a shame because Thai tea is pretty much my favorite thing to get at Thai restaurants. This place didn't get five starts because of the tea and because the service was extremely inattentive. My friend litterally had to get up and walk to the register to get service, and we were sitting right next to the register! Parking here may be an issue as the lot is really small and the place tends to be packed. I will certainly be coming back in the future to try other dishes. I live in New Orleans but if I ever am in the mood for Thai, I am going to Metairie.

My girlfriend and I are regular customers here. Today, however, we had received the most terrible service ever. Our waitress, a fat asian lady, came to us with no "hello" or "how are you guys doing today?" Instead she loudly yelled at us saying, "Next time you cannot bring outside drinks in!" As a server myself, I find this extremely rude and unprofessional. There are many ways of stating the policy of the restaurant without offending the customers. Or maybe should I teach her. She should say, "I am sorry, but our restaurant do not allow oustide drinks." Does that sounds more better? Plus, we are not that cheap; we always tip 20% and order a thai tea and thai coffee with our "outside drinks." The boss is nice though; she just needs a better and more professional server.

LOVE everything about this place. FAV menu items are thai iced tea, wonton soup, ultimate rice, drunken noodle(I tell them to tone down the spice) and pad thai. Not a good place to get alcohol drinks, stick to hot tea,etc Service is great, owners do the cooking, gotta love that. They recently renovated and the decor is really nice. Looks like theyre not finished by the bathroom/back door area. Few parking spots in the front but more in the back and side of building. The lunch prices cant be beat. The food comes out fresh and quick everytime. Next I wanna try one of the curry dishes oh and the beef lava is good too just has a strong chili powder taste

I'm not really one for Thai food, but in general I'll agree to go if I'm not paying! That being said, four stars for impressing me with the pad Thai. The edamame and a few other appetizers are pretty great, too. If you like Thai, my parents swear by this place!

After driving up and down Vet's looking for a non-chain new place to eat Friday night, we took a serendipitous turn onto Severn and stumbled upon this place. I was slightly alarmed when I walked in, because it has that this-bill-is-going-to-smack-you-in-the-face-Âbecause-you-are-taking-your-tween-son/garbage-Âdisposal-out-to-dinner look to it, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the menu was very reasonably priced. We started with the gyogrob. Apparently, gyogrob are fried little dumplings stuffed with all sorts of goodness - shrimp and mushrooms and yum, if I remember correctly. I had no idea what to expect, but they were very nice, especially with the cucumber sauce that came on the side. The shrimp inside were plump and perfectly cooked. Both of us have a serious taste for heat, so we immediately flipped to the "Countryside Authentic" section of the menu, which had a disclaimer warning wimps not to bother. My son was going on and on about calamari, so he ordered the Pad Shaa Calamari. IT WAS RIDICULOUS. I am usually not a fan of calamari, normally considering it just a chewy, bland vehicle for marinara sauce. Not so at Cafe Equator - the pieces were large, fried in light batter, and tender and juicy. I didn't know that calamari could be like that! The broth was tangy (lemon?) and spicy, but not overly hot at all. The vegetables tossed in added the perfect flavor and texture combination. I very highly recommend this dish! Feeling mischievous, I ordered the "Something in the Jungle" with chicken and asked for it extra extra hot. Now, this is why I love Thai food. It was hot as all fuck. The veggies tossed in included bamboo shoots and I don't know what all exotic else (a crazy little tree of peppercorns that looked like millet, for one), but damn it was good. The service was friendly and fast, the decor was quaint, and the food super delicious! I cant wait to go back and explore the menu more!

Dear Yelpers, This is one of the times when you have failed me in my never ending search for good food for my belly, and it hurts. I don't understand how you rate so high such an expensive (for what it is) and uneventful meal. The green curry was watery and the pad thai was so ok I don't even remember why I didn't like it. All of this make me very sad. I really believe that we have a good relationship. I let you sleep in the right side of the bed and you can even hold the remote. All I ask is that you don't fall in love with mediocre places that overprice their food. You know that I am poor and that I suffer from disease that forces me to always eat good food. I bathe you, I give you love and I try to contribute every day with my own culinary experience. Don't worry, I am not mad, just disappointed. But I still love you. Best, Julio

Skip this one. You can get better and cheaper food at Siamese in Kennairie. Their pad thai is just ok. The chicken larb is pretty darn good but you can get it jsut as good somewhere else. Service was slow. Parking is a a complete disaster. I had to park two block away on a side street at night .. in heels needless to say not fun. Someone was so desperate for pakring they parked right behind the friend I met there blocking everyone in again not fun. So to recap mediocre overpriced Thai food drive a little further and go get some drunken noodles at Siamese it's worth it!

I really love this place. No, really. I may run off with this place and elope to Canada. I love it that much. The only thing I dislike is the location. I really wish it was next door to my house, or at least within delivery range (I don't actually know if the deliver, I am fantasizing here!) They have an entire vegetarian section, which also notes weather items have fish bits in them. YAY, cause fish parts will make me sick. Speaking of fish, they have a beautiful fish tank that my husband loves to peep on during dinner. The service is really good, and the food comes out fast. It's a little pricey, but I will pay for good food, especially when it is legitimately Thai, as opposed to the turds that Sukho Thai serves. I am continuing to eat here, slowly trying everything on the veg menu! Basically, you can get anything on the veg menu with veggies and/or tofu. I wish I could remember what I ate, but it was super good and spicy-ish with noodles. Anyway, I haven't had a bad bite here yet. Drop in and give it a whirl.

This place is not good. It used to be but something changed. I visited with my mother a few weeks ago. The food was so salty, it was almost inedible. Overly salty food means one of two things, poor ingredients or poor cooking.

The flavor combination taste just fine, but Thai food is getting way too expensive. Ordered the Pad Gang Dang the green beans were undercooked, with appetizer portion of beef and way too salty to serve with 8oz of white rice. Dish should be charged for no more than $10.95 TOPS, but paying $14.95 I can get this dish anywhere else. Here is my advice, unless your food is SUPER WOW in taste and quality which is not, you should lower your prices or throw more substance in it so your customers will actually see VALUE in your product. The only reason why you got two stars is that my wife like your Pad Thai.

The first time I dined here was for my birthday with a group of friends of 8 and we thought everything we ordered were delicious! We ordered -mint leaf beef salad -lemongrass calamari salad -pad thai (good & flavorful, but may be a little too sweet for certain individuals..) -drunken noodles (spicy) -samet tipalia -equator green curry -and sticky rice with mango topped with coconut sauce for dessert! Mm! Overall, everyone was extremely happy with the food and the amount of food that came out was also perfectly right! The reason why I'm not giving this place a 5 stars because the food is inconsistent. When my boyfriend and I came by a few times after and we tried some similar dishes as well as new dishes. He got the pad thai and both of us thought it was really sweet this time around. The other dishes we ordered were -Tom yum soup (tasted like heated tomato soup to me) -crunchy pad thai (it was ok, but not a big fan of it) and -Savage fish (flavorful and good!). Overall, the service there are always nice and attentive. if you are craving for some Thai food, this is definitely the place to get it!

This place has the best Thai food I've eaten in Nola! I've tried the Pad Thai w/chicken, the Drunken Noodle, Panaeng Curry, and the Basil Chicken and all have been amazing. They are also really accommodating for large parties. Your food comes out fast and the staff is very attentive. The only downside is the parking lot. I was lucky enough to get a spot in the front last time I went but people I've met there had to park on the street.

Definitely would not call this place a good value. Authentic green chicken curry tasted fine (nothing special), but the chicken was way over-cooked. Drunken noodles are forgettable. I have never been charged when asking for extra rice. Do not get orders to go.

The food here did not disappoint! It had been at least two years since our last visit. The service was very friendly, and I had forgotten how pretty it is inside. We had an order of spring rolls as an appetizer. Very good. We had two full entrees; one was a green curry chicken and the other was a basil fish. Both very delicious, just the right amount of spice and fresh. A delightful meal, and the price was quite good. The server even offered dessert, which so rarely happens anymore in restaurants. Very nice.

Pros- the Thai tea. The food was mediocre. We had the calamari for the appetizer. Calamari didn't have much flavor and its dipping sauce was just ok. I had the shrimp pad won zen. The shrimp was over cooked. The noodles were cooked a little too dry. I tried a bit of my sister's pad Thai and its tasted ok. Overall, their food was just ok. I've had better at other places.

Was looking for a good local thai spot in Metairie and decided to hit up this place first from the good reviews here. Good location, next to Lakeside mall and plenty of parking in the front and back of the restaurant. Inside, the place was clean and had great decor. Service was great and fast. I loved my thai iced tea and pad thai. The pork dumplings were okay, not the best. I was disappointed with my Tom Yum soup because it did not have the right of spiciness that I like and am used to. I would not recommend the Equator Fried rice though; it was pretty bland and I hate it when they put big pieces of tomato in fried rice. The best part of the dinner was the Sticky rice and mango. I might just hit up this place to get that to go. Otherwise, pretty standard for a thai place and prices are kinda high.

I had heard good and bad things about Cafe Equator so when I finally had a moment to try it out, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was disappointed with how small the portions were for the price, but if the food was going to be tasty I could have put that aside. I got the food as take out so didn't get a visual of the food until I arrived home. Though the potions were small, it smelled really good. The serious downer was that I only took the first bite when I discovered a long black hair in my food. Disgusted, I called to see what might be done to remedy the situation, and the woman who answered the phone hung up on me when I explained about the hair. The end result, They've lost a customer and I will not be recommending Cafe Equator to anyone I know. This was a disappointing experience.

After craving Churros and braving the wilds of Metairie, I found Churros closed early on a Wednesday night! So we decided to go to Korea House, also closed! My stomach dangerously rumbling, we decided for a quick bite at Cafe Equator. Pad Thai and Masaman curry were fine but nothing I can see having a craving for in the future. The Thai iced tea I thought was not very good, it tasted...smoky? Service was fine, parking was easy.

I've never been a fan of Thai food until I went to Equator. They have upgraded the decor a lot since I first went here years ago. Everything I've ordered here has never disappointed and the service is fast and friendly. Equator has great lunch specials but FYI, no lunch specials on Sunday. Here are some of things I've tried: Appetizers: Chicken Sate: basic staple of all Thai restaurants. Its good and the cucumber sauce service along with it gives its a refreshing taste. Spicy Beef Roll: A fried Thai Eggroll with a mixture of ground beef and seasonings inside. Spicy but good. Salads: Lemon Grass Calamari Salad: The best appetizer/salad there!! Ever since I tried this, I skip the other appetizers and order this. Its grilled calamari on a bed of lettuce, onions and tomatoes dressed with a lemon grass curry tasting dressing! Entrees: Pad Thai: Best Pad Thai! Sweet and savory and has the perfect amount of spice! Pad Kee Mow (drunken noodles): This is a savory spicy dish that has large flat noodles sauteed with chicken, shrimp, squash, bamboo, carrots and other assortments of seasonal vegetables. A great alternative if you don't like the sweetness of the Pad Thai. Basil Chicken: Served with white rice. Sauteed Chicken and seasonal vegetables in a spicy Thai Basil sauce. Another delicious dish. Savage Fish: Crispy Fried tilapia served with sauteed seasonal vegetables in a spicy sauce with white rice. Equator Red Curry: Good curry dish also. I actually really love curry and this one is great. Good spice. Something in the Jungle: I've tried the beef and all I can say is SPICY!!! Dessert: Mango with sticky rice: one word: YUM! All in all you can never go wrong with anything you order you and I've never been disappointed.

Cafe Equator has hands down the best Tom Yum soup I've ever eaten. This is how I rate thai restaurants, hence the 5 stars. I love this place because they give you the option of traditional or american style thai dishes. I recommend you get the traditional style, you won't believe how much better it is. Besides the soup, I ordered Pad Thai (based on other yelpers' reviews), and one of their specialty curry dishes. The pad thai was good, but the curry was absolutely amazing. Wow, I might have to go there for dinner tonight. lol

Good food, service was quick and efficient and prices reasonable. There is limited parking, and if you have a big SUV you probably want to park on the street. Due to the other attractions in the area, parking is at a premium.

My first experience with thai when I lived in New Orleans. I can't say I can remember my experience enough to critique the Pad Thai all that much but I do remember one thing. This place made me fall in LOVE with Pad Thai. Service I will say though is a bit bland, so don't go in expecting the royal treatment.
Good Thai food in a nice environment. Even though it is in Metairie, the parking was crap. Most parking in and around NOLA is crap so I am used to it. It's definitely a bit pricier than most Thai places I have been around town, but the food is probably worth the price. I would definitely go back.

For newbies or explorers, you can't do better than this place. THe pad thai was top notch and the subtle important ingredients like kaffir leaves and peppercorns are paid attention to. The Pad thai is easily enjoyed and eased into by fresh mouths, and all the appetizers will be easily palatable. For People Who Crave Thai Food: You can eat here. It delivers the goods for the most part. Haven't played with the curries yet because i hate Metairie, but everything is passable and inexpensive. They have to compete with that whole Severn Corridor, so the priceline is cheaper than the same-tier Thai Competition. One reviewer said this was on par with SukhoThai, but i found it to be more along the lines of LAThai with a huge pile more authenticity, except for the one thing i expect when i walk into a "home" to eat Thai: incense. I know that's totally irrelevant to the meal itself, but it is indeed the reason that if i just want some thai curry or a bowl of soup or some pad thai i don't feel like making myself, I go to Bangkok. Even if this, and others, are "better." I've hit this place twice now, once for the end of a decent-topped lunch (judging from the still dirty tables and exhausted minimal staff) and a very very slow dinner (gleaned by the gorgeous and overly-attentive staff who still made easily heard quiet racist comments (not in engrish) despite having their pretty faces on (with a black girl). Both time service was apt and asian, no frills, and excited over a not-fifteen percent tip; no surprises on any of this. If you're in the burbs and already driving down Severn while hungry, give it a shot. Unless you're going the other way, then Mandarin House is like 3 minutes away.

My favorite Thai place in new olreans! I love the seafood pad Thai, fried tilapia ginger, and beef salad!! Every dish is delicious! Don't forget to try the jasmine tea over ice, it's GREAT!

I'm a big fan of this place. The parking lot is tiny, but I've always gotten a spot, and I imagine, if it was full, you could go around the corner and find some street parking. So the two big reasons I like Cafe Equator: It's clean and well decorated. There aren't any fake plants gathering dust or old table clothes that have been rebleached a million times. It adds to the appetite to feel like you're in a beautiful and clean space. (And based on where it's located, I have to say kudos to them, you totally forget where you are.) The food is really good. I tend to always get the same Pad Thai shrimp whenever I go to Thai restaurants, but I had already sampled Cafe Equator's Pad Thai when we got it as take away for my office, and it was great. My first time eating in the restaurant I wanted to try something different. So I got the Equator Fried Rice. It was delicious! My boyfriend got a curry dish from their authentic section, which was also very good, though not as spicy as they warned. I went again recently and had Pad Woon Zen with shrimp off their lunch menu. (Though you can get it on their regular menu too). But! Not only was it delicious, items on the lunch menu are inexpensive, and they come with a spring roll, some edame, some crunchies. The portion was a perfect lunch sized portion, plus one Singha beer :)

Why is it that the best ethnic restaurants are in strip malls (or at least surrounded by them)? Cafe Equator is accross from Lakeside on Severn, at the nexus of all that is awful yet irresistible about Metairie. Occupying the shell of a Ground Pat'i rastaurant, the redesign of the interior is actually quite charming and comfortable, one might even say stylish...but we don't go to Metairie to bask in atmosphere, do we? The food is fantastic accross. the board, but first, let me make a defense of the often maligned (by Thai-philes) pad Thai. Equator's Pad Thai Supreme is delicious-the addition of perfectly fried soft shell crab just sends this dish over the top. Starting with any of the rolls (golden, spicy beef, vegetable or Summer) might also seem humdrums to the spice monkeys who lord their expertise over you, but ignore them and enjoy fresh, expertly prepared treats that definately get you ready for delights to come.As mentioned before, these folks know how to fry and the blanket shrimp and gyogrob ( ground shrimp, mushrooms, green onions and water chestnuts wrapped in a wonton) prove it. All of the other starters please as well, with both pork and shrimp shumai as well as chicken satay and pork on skewers and a myriad of others...I could happily order appetizers and never get entrees or salads, but that would be a mistake. The lemongrass calimari salad and the Oriental salad with tofu have dispossessed me of my previously held opinion that salads at Asian restaurants are usually a disappointment. There are too many entrees about which to rhapsodize, but I can say that freshness of the ingredients and a deft touch in the kitchen ensure that whatever your wont, these folks will please you. If you dig curries, Equator offers more choices than anywhere else in town, and after their extensive entree carte, the add a "countryside authentic" section with even more options. As a coda (before dessert, that is), a considerable vegetarian selection is offered. Desserts are standard Thai but quite good and there is beer, wine, and sake available along with soft drinks and some special teas (including iced Thai tea). So next time you must visit the concrete jungle near Causeway & Vets, steal away to this tropical oasis and enjoy some tasty Thai.

First off all...I really hated how inconvenient the parking lot is. It's so small so all the parking lots were taken up. My bf and I had to park across the street at the JCPenney parking lot and ran across the street, looking like idiots. That kinda gave me a bad impression. To start it off, my bf and I both ordered the Thai tea, Tom Yum soup and the calamari. All of them were delicious and on point! As for entrees, I ordered the Pad Thai and my bf ordered the Drunken Noodles. For the Pad Thai....I was highly disappointed. It was so sweet that I just didn't even want to touch it anymore. I think the Pad Thai from Thanh Thanhs are better. The drunken noodles were pretty decent. It is good, but I've had better. Over all, I guess it's an okay place to go, but I doubt there will be a second-go.

my friend and i came here for a birthday lunch celebration. when i walked in i found this place very dark a stark contrast to most other Asian restaurants I frequently dine at. my friend and i both ordered the tom kar gai soup. my friend loved hers while i thought maybe should i have ordered the tom yum koong shrimp cuz my coconut soup tasted off. as an entree i ordered the basil eggplant with chicken and my friend got the mussaman curry with shrimp. my dish reminded more of chinese food than thai. i was intrigued by my friends dish cuz it had sweet potatoes chunks. ive never seen sweet potatoes prepared in that fashion. if i can parking maybe ill return to try the traditional Pad Thai.

Finally, I was able to use Yelp as a tourist does...arriving in a strange city with no idea what to do or where to eat and needing advice. The mysterious city was Metairie and since we were combining an airport pickup with a trip to Sears, I thought I would make the most of my trip. I came up with Cafe Equator...I love Thai food and haven't eaten any in ages so was very excited. Drove up and laughed, because it looked like a Thai Food Denny's from the outside...that same suburban chain restaurant architecture that says "Ummm, I don't know" Luckily, looks are deceiving. Staff was very friendly, waitress sweet and food good. 3 lunch specials, Pad Thai, Tilapia, and yellow curry so we'd get a variety...all good especially the Tilapia. I had to ask for Chili sauce for the Pad Thai...guess my pasty skin looked scared (I go full gusto in Thailand, usually surprising the local street cooks) to them. Once added, the food was as good as I's expect for the price. 3 meals, coffees and green teas: Maybe $32...very fair. I'm not going to make a trip out to Metairie just to go hear, but on an errand run, it's a great way to make a miserable shopping trip that I am dragged along on a lot more bearable.

I have to say, I LOVE Thai food!! Cafe Equator is great. Their food is really amazing, and their service is pretty fast. Their Thai tea is delicious. The fried rice and green curry are my favorites. And of course, you can never go wrong with the pad thai.

Worste service ever. We went with our Service Dog, ADA approved , she looked at us from head to toe, made us wait and gave us the worste table by the kitchen, from then on, it went from bad to horrible, when we asked for dessert she said the kitchen was already close, according to the web we still had an hour. Too bad they have people like that working at a restaurant, we ll never go back there.

Really good food, it did not disappoint. However last time I went for lunch, I was told that I could not use a credit/debit card unless it was over $20, since there was no sign, I had no way of knowing, they acted as if they were doing me a huge favor taking my credit card this "one" time. So, that was a little annoying, I'm not much into pretentious with my meals.

I will never go here again. My boyfriend and I went last night and it was not very busy. We were seated very quickly and then we sat and sat and sat. No one ever came to our table. There was a waitress at the next table, cleaning it! We finally got up and left after about 17 mins. The waitress finally addressed us as we were leaving and I told her we had been waiting for a long time. Another waitress came over and they started talking about us in Thai. I used to order out from here but I will never return and I will tell my friends about the terrible service. After all that we never even got an apology.

This is one of the better Thai places in Metairie. Based of other yelpers help, I ate the the ultimate pad Thai with soft shell crab. Staff was kinda friendly, clean atmosphere. Not much parking, go to the rear or across to the grocery.

Fantastic and fresh spring rolls, with mint and celantro, wonderful Thai Basil Vegetable dish with tofu. Pretty place with good service. The best Asian food I have had in New Orleans, hands down. It's not greasy Chineese but even my Chinese buffet loving boyfriend loves this Thai delight! I keep going back for more :)

I was surprisingly impressed by my sunday lunch at the equator. This was my second visit and the second visit definitely outweighed the first. I am still not sold on this place, but it is better than most thai i have experienced in this city. Please beware, i went in a group of two and the bill came out to be $41 :( The food breakdown: Veggie rolls - good sauce, three per order, very small :( Cabbage wrap salad (minced chicken)- very tastey but i wish they would use lettuce instead of cabbage. The cabbage is too tough and overpowers the dish. Basil Eggplant- the real winner, very light with a great sauce Drunken Noodles- The heaviest dish we ordered, tastey, but not good if you have activiites planned later in the day! I think i will be back one day!

The restaurant is reasonably priced (both of us ate for a total of 20 dollars) and beautiful inside (solid, dark wood through out with nice decor). However, the meal was lacking. Pretty good pad thai for the price but the portion was small and the sides (roll, edamame, & fried noodles) were okay.

I love Thai food and am so glad that I found this place, and it's dangerously convenient to my workplace so I predict many takeout orders in my future. This was my first visit and I found the decor very comfortable and clean, service was superb and the food delicious. I had a coconut and chicken soup that was steaming when she brought it out so I could really get the aroma, and it tasted just as good as it smelled.I crave spring rolls...here it's called a summer roll, it had just enough fresh cilantro and the peanut sauce was perfection! My friend also enjoyed her dish, the name I can't remember but it was shrimp, pinapple, sweet potato and pecans in a coconut based sauce. For dessert a fresh slice mango with a light almost savory sauce served with hot sticky sweet rice. Very nice !

So I went to equator for lunch with a couple friends as a goodbye lunch to one of them. The service was a wee bit cold. It wasn't completely a turn off but I got the feeling like we were interrupting a break or something the way they were so standoff. The food was pretty good and almost had enough kick to tickle my taste buds the right way (yes, there's a good touch/bad touch with taste buds). Once we got the check, the server messed up the cut and put it all on one person's card so there went another star. If it weren't for the servers, it would've been a five star experience with good food and affordable prices. But alas, they ticked me off too much to make this good.

I was forced to go here due to my ex-girlfriend wanting some fried ice cream and banana. Living on the westbank i never even knew this restaurant existed. Their drinks seem pretty normal, but when i looked at the menu they had some pretty funny, interesting names. I had the Adamaman Hunter, not sure if i spelled it right, it was pretty tasty, but not spicy enough for me. It consisted of seafood such as shrimp, scallop, and four pieces of fried tilapia. On the menu, they had something called "something in the jungle" which i found funny. Overall i liked the style and the food in this restaurant.

Service was a little slow tonight. Normally it's better. Past visits were always pleasurable, as was this visit. The ultimate fried rice is a favorite of mine. Got that and some edamame tonight and left full and ready to go to bed. I gave tonight's visit only four stars based on the slower than usual service. Other than that, no complaints.

Lunch here is quick, decently priced, and did I mention quick? Lunch plates here come w/ half of a fried spring roll and a three-bite salad along w/ your entree of choice. It's mad busy here during the week as most folks opt to come here during lunch. The tables here are fantastic, sturdy and dark, and REAL WOOD. The rennovation post-Katrina...well, it seems as if espresso brown threw up on the walls and stuck. I'm not a huge fan of two-toned color schemes, but it gives this restaurant a much too dark of a feel. Also, the huge sign is blown out and probably they aren't too bothered to get it redone any time soon. Staff here is friendly and quick, hurray. Pad thai is always a fave, but they have a few other interesting choices as well (and wacky names): Lava beef, Something Jungle dish. Recently tried the Massaman curry w/ request of tofu instead of meat...and all I got was a ton of fried tofu cubes smothered in sauce....I guess I was hoping for veggies with it too (as that would definitely justify the price tag). A good place to be especially after shopping all day long next door at Lakeside mall.

Yum in my tummy. The restaurant took a while to come back but after Katrina, they had to shell out more dough to renovate the whole place including the roof. Before the storm I loved how the owner's brother painted the murals in the bathroom and the walls in the bar and the dining area. He also did the painting of the King, but I think that's gone too. The food is excellent and left me sweating and panting for water, if you want it spicy, ask for Thai style, and say it like you mean it. The samosa and spring rolls are recommended, as the beef salad, the softshell crab pad thai is off the chain, the spicy fried fish, and the pad woon sen, so many Im tellin ya. I cant have a favorite here. Also there is a wine list for you lushes. Parking in rear and front parking lot, cash and credit is accepted, takeout, and family friendly.

ordered take-out from them today. while waiting for my food i noticed a sign on the wall saying cafe equator was included in the top 100 thai restaurants in america. this makes me sad because the food was mediocre. their tom kai soup was bland - all coconut, no spice. the pad thai was equally bland. the yellow chicken curry was ok, but a bit heavy on the creamy-ness, not nearly enough curry. not worth a repeat visit. my search for excellent thai continues...

For Metairie this is ok Thai food but really I think I've had some better Pad Thai at some Vietnamese places. The lunch portion is very much on the light side of a serving size for the price. I would far rather go to any of the Thai places in Orleans Parish but if you are trapped in Metairie this is one of your few options for Thai. The parking is also pretty limited and challenging so be prepared for that.

Quickly seated and approached by our server. Good atmosphere. Good food. Good price. I would go back.

I love Thai food. When it comes to Thai food I have pretty high standards since it seems that New Orleans loves to charge over $10 for every single entree! It's so much more expensive than a low key Vietnamese restaurant. Anyways, I digress. Equator is a perfect after shopping lunch date spot. Right next to lakeside mall, it's prime location for a nice bite after shopping. The Tom Yum Soup is delicious, at $5 for a 12 ounce cup of soup. It's tasty but I try not to always get it. The Spicy chicken wings are salted and fried wings that have a slight amount of seasoning, paired with a separate sauce that is interesting and delicious! I wish I had sticky rice to go with it. The Pad Kee Mow, drunken noodles is always a delight. My boyfriend got the Ultimate Fried Rice. He was hesitant at first because it looked really really plain and sad. However the flavor was jam packed! It had a lot of flavor without being overloaded on salt or soy sauce. Not your plain fried rice take out. We got the mango sticky rice for dessert -- always a pleasure, but since mangoes aren't in season, they didn't have the same portion it normally would during mango season. However, the price remained the same. That sucked but it was still delish! My main reason to come back is because it's in Metairie, so close to the mall, and it satisfies your Thai craving. It isn't OMG THE BEST THAI FOOD. But it isn't OMG THIS PLACE SUCKS. It's just good. Plain good

Came in for a work lunch, place smelled good upon arrival. Restaurant was not very busy and had lots of open tables, but the hostess tried to stuff the 4 of us into a tiny booth. We asked if we could spread out to the adjoining table and she said no. We had 2 men with us who then had to squish themselves together uncomfortably. By the way, the entire roll of tables remained empty during our entire visit. My coworker ordered a diet coke and it was flat. She told the waitress and she said they wait for 5 separate complaints before they call in for service?!? I ordered the Tofu Lava lunch special for $7.99. Food was flavorful, but portion was tiny (think child size). I put a picture of my plate on this site. Overall the food was good, but I don't think I'd come again because lack of service and the small portion size. You can do better.

I have been seated quickly every time I have come here. The wait staff is nice, and friendly with just the right amount of attention given. I don't like it when they hover and don't like it when they don't stop by, and I am happy they are right in the middle! The eggplant chicken said that it was medium spicy. I think that it was a mild spicy, for which I am VERY happy. I loved it! Great flavors, great texture. The thai iced tea (I don't even want to think of the calories) was perfection on a warm day. The mango and sweet sticky rice I ordered to go was just like I have had in the past at other locations. I am in love with this desert. I wish I could have it every single day.

I love Thai food, but Cafe Equator falls flat for me. Food was really bland, but at least the thai tea was good...

I've tried many Thai places in the New Orleans area, and not one even compares to Equator. The lunch specials are out of this world...so much for around 10 dollars an entree! Their pad Thai is absolute the best. I love asking them to add veggies to it, but it really doesn't need it because it is already so filling. Soups and appetizers are delicious, as well as their specialty teas. If you do go here, don't be surprised if you start craving it...A LOT.

Good lunch specials but a little pricey for dinner. Especially by Metairie standards. The restaurant itself is small enough to feel intimate but not so small that it feels like you're eating on too of other patrons. So in that regard, maybe good for a slightly-more-upscale-than-casual date? Waitstaff is attentive enough but not overbearing, and the service was quick. I had dinner there the other evening and my dining companion and I both had our food on the table within fifteen minutes of ordering. I had the chicken Pad See-Ew and it was good if not slightly saltier than I normally find it to be at other restaurants. My companion had the Veggie Delight with Tofu which I guess he enjoyed because he all but inhaled it. Portions are big enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day, if you're into that sort of thing. What I really appreciate is the myriad protein options available. In addition to all of the chicken/beef/pork/shrimp/other seafood, there's an entire page of the menu that lists all of their vegetarian options (of which there are plenty) and that all of their veggie options are vegan unless stated otherwise. This makes dining with friends who have different dietary requirements easy! I also appreciate the little notes next to each item on the menu, stating how spicy that particular dish is. In short, I feel like places such as Bangkok Thai and Sukho are probably better, but they're alllllllllll the way in the city and I don't always feel like leaving Metairie just to get dinner. Cafe Equator for the proximity convenience win, then!

Not many Thai resturants in New Orleans, so this place was our choice to go to satisfy our cravings. Our waitress didn't even bother checking up on us asking how our food was or if we needed anything else! I didn't even get a refill on my water. Besides that, our food was good, which made up for the service we received. We ordered the pad thai and drunken noodles.

Not impressed. Tried this place once months ago and was disappointed. Food, very average. Prices not great for the portion sizes. Took a 6 month hiatus. Returned for takeout this time to see if anything had changed. Once again, lackluster thai food. Big disappointment considering how many good reviews it has. And to top it off with a cherry, I found black strands of hair in my food. Will not be back, I'll stick with LaThai on Prytania.

Used to be one of my favorite restaurant . I loved their Pad Kee Mow (drunken noodles) and frozen thai tea. Service was very bad though. ( tall skinny lady was not nice at all ) I will order togo from now on bc i love their food but not their service.

Not gonna lie, the service isn't the greatest. Not to say it's terrible but a few times our waitress acted like she'd rather not be bothered. The food, though, it's worth it. Always consistent, always good. They are willing to adjust meals to level of spice to not-at-all to kick-in-the-face. Really good Pad Thai, and fresh made Thai Tea always. They will add different veggies to different curries for an upcharge, which is no big deal and should be expected. The portions are more than enough and the sauces are plenty rich. I've been going here for years and my experience is typically as stated above. Parking is next to nonexistent so I usually just park at Lakeside Mall across the street and walk.

Love the Pad Thai with a touch of red chile and the red curry dishes. A great place for lunch as it is quick with portion sizes that are ample but not too large. The only challenge is it can be difficult to find parking if you don't go early.

I ordered the Tom Yum soup and Vegetarian Drunken Noodle w Tofu. Both dishes were just OK. When I ordered, I was not given the option to request mild. Thankfully the medium drunken noodle was not too spicy. For paying $14 for a dinner portion of drunken noodle, I expected a larger serving. Finally, there was no Thai basil in the dish. I won't be ordering either dishes from here anytime soon. Definitely prefer Sukho Thai.

Ordered shrimp pad thai lunch - meh. I prefer pad thai from Singha or Pho Nola. Rolls had no flavor. The regular ice tea even tasted weird. They sat me at a table in the bar area which was okay, but dark. The server was nice.

Favorite place to get Thai food! Best shrimp pad Thai I've ever eaten. I wish they would take the tails off the shrimp, but I understand traditionally in Asian dishes they do not. Tried everything from their curry, To their coconut soup and can't find one thing I do not like. And I am picky beyond belief! They have options for any guest! Also have a wonderful vegan/vegetarian menu. The only thing I would change would be larger portions.

In my opinion, best thai food around - paneng (sp?) chicken and pineapple rice to be more specific! Only gave it 4 stars because sometimes the host and wait stuff can be a little unfriendly.

Drunken noodle with shrimp was good and the Thai wonton soup! The only negative was they will only use your credit card if your tab is near or above $15!
I had a wonderful 1-person lunch here and I have to admit, it wasn't bad for Metry stuff. It was completely empty when I came in but by the time I left, it had gotten over half full. My meal was delivered in a timely fashion and even though ti wasn't Thai hot like I ordered, the Pad Kee Mow (Drunken Noodle) were quite good. I am told that the next time I go, if I do not take The Girly, I will not be able to chew food for a week...so...next time, I will take The Girly.

I was hunting for some place to have lunch on a Sunday afternoon around 2 p.m. Surprisingly what was open was crowded and lots of places were closed. My friend suggested this restaurant because he liked the pad thai. I was really pleased with both the selection and the descriptions. Since I'm a curry fiend, I was excited to see a wide variety, offered with a choice of proteins. They also had a veggie page which was divided into true vegetarian items and those that include fish sauce. I had panang curry with veggies & tofu and it was delicious. My friend decided to try dessert which was sticky sweet rice & custard. The dessert was ok, but not something I would need to order again. Service was attentive and the price was good. Definitely a spot I'd try again.

K took me here for my birthday this past Friday. He wouldn't tell me where we were going the whole time, and when we were approaching Metairie on I-10, he finally told me that we were going to an Italian spot. I said, Okay, I like Italian. Well, I like most food so whatever he told me would have been okay. Lol. The parking lot of the restaurant was full so we parked a little bit away and walked up to the restaurant. When I looked at the place, it said "Thai." I looked at him with a puzzled look and saw that he was grinning. He had tricked me. This was a surprise to me because K is less experienced with the likes of Thai, Vietnamese, Korean cuisines. He was born and raised in New Orleans with very good Creole and Cajun food along with other cuisines that have been incorporated into the American culinary world sooner. But I always talk about how I would love for him to go to these restaurants with me, and it was a pleasant surprise that he was willing to try it with me on a special day for me. We ordered Larb Gai (I *love* Larb) and fried chicken dumplings for starters. Dumplings were decent (and piping hot), and the Larb was very good. Very refreshing. Then K ordered Pad Thai (I told him it was Thai Food 101) with pork and I ordered the Garlic and Pepper with beef, both of which were very good. I really wanted Mango and sticky rice for dessert but we're out of season. Bleh. Service was bleh but I didn't expect it to be a white tablecloth experience so that didn't matter too much to me. I did have an issue with the descriptions on the menu because often it would just say "with Thai spices" on quite a few items--and I *know* these things that all say that they're cooked "with Thai spices" gotta taste different. But the food we had was delicious and K liked everything we ordered, so we will probably be back.

I've seen and passed by Cafe Equator for years, and only just recently stopped in for the first time. I wish I would have come earlier because we really enjoyed everything... the food is great. Get the blanket shrimp as an appetizer and then one of the Pad Thai's. Both are excellent! BOTTOM LINE: Best Thai place in Metairie!

Ordered a quick to go order with "authentic" dishes that were incredibly way too hot (spicy), but yet surprisingly enjoyable after my mouth got used to the slow spicy burn. The coconut soup was also wonderful in addition to the non-spicy pad thai with tofu. This place is consistently good whether it's dine in or take out.

This place is just dirty. There are cobwebs in ceiling lattice-work, empty/used sugar packets on the floor around the table. Couldn't have sat us at a clean table? (or is this as clean as it gets?)

I am that person that always wants to make substitutions. This place always does it without a hassle. I ordered shrimp pad thai with vegetables. After a brief moment of confusion, they gladly accommodated charging me only $1.50 extra. The pad thai is the wettest pad thai I have had, a bit too wet...BUT the flavor is great. I ate every last bite. The vegetables are always crisp and the shrimp was fresh.

Awesome food. I get to go food from here often and it satisfies my Thai craving without having to drive and park uptown. Their service is indeed a little slow and a little too...curt for some people. Doesn't bother me though!

Alright, updating my review.. So. Walked in at around 8:20p.m...yes they close in 30ish minutes, but my group of 3 insisted on going. Me being a waitress and all I felt the waitresses pain, but then again not really && b/c she was very pushy with everything. Also, she gave us or check before One person in my group could ask for a sprite to wash the Thai tea down.. Being a waitress, you need to make your customers feel welcomed, not give the vibe of being pushed out the door..but the food makes up for it all. Service definitely needs to change. FOOD; -Edamame; simple and a nice light appetizer. You can't mess up edamame. -Pork Shumai- came with 4 . my group seemed to love it.. Shoving it in their mouths while still piping hot! -Shrimp Shumai- also came with 4, was super flavorful with or without the dipping sauce! -Drunken noodles - was flavorful&& had the prefect hint of heat. If you like medium heat.. This entree is really good! Enough to share between 2 peeps. -Chicken pad thai - my hubbub gets this every time we go to Equator & it'll he will never pick anything else. -VEGGIE pad thai with tofu- delish! A tad on the sweet side, but can easily be saved with a little or a lot of sriracha.! -Basil Shrimp, sounds tasty, but was super land.. Lacked in flavor and spices. The shrimp were a nice size. I don't recommend this dish. -Mango w/ sweet coconut sticky rice- a must try if you haven't tried it yet. Definitely will probably only crave it once in a blue moon. -Fried bananas w/ vanilla ice cream- my group of 3 killed it. R.I.P to the banana. -Thai tea- also a must try if you haven't yet.. Also get a glass of water..the sweetness tends to make you thirsty after. The menu is SUPER extensive, a tad over whelming, but nothing too crazy. They also offer one whole page of vegetarian in their menu booklet. So that was pretty refreshing for me. I also took pictures of all the pages in the menu booklet for my fellow yelpers! ( sorry for the darkness, Equator usually is very dark inside during dinner. ) Warning.. finding parking spots can be a pain considering they only have 2-3 spots in the front and super jam packed parking in the back. Otherwise, you'll pretty much have to street park.

Yummy chicken panang. Price was ok for dinner. Service was sketchy at times, but overall great experience. Great flavors, Good size portions. I also like the ambiance; quiet, relaxed. Parking can be a pain in the butt, though.

Pretty good thai place locaed in Metairie area.First off, SHRIMP SHUMAI! love love this. Tom Yom Soup? Can't go wrong with that either. My top things to get are the pad thai, crunchy pad thai and basil shrimp. If you want more spicy stuff then go under the "authenic" area. The only thing I had under there was the Pad Gang Dang, which is with sauteed slices of beef or pork with thai sauce.

Wow, what a surprise to find such good Thai food out in Americaland(TM), our affectionate name for the land of strip malls, parking lots, and chain restaurants known as Metairie. We were stumbling around, a little unsure of what to have for dinner. We were leaning Asian comfort food, but not in the mood for the meat-heavy Korea House, and unsure of what else to try. We swung through P.F. Chang's, with a half-hearted thought that if the wait was less than 20 mins, we'd finally eat there. The wait was 45, so we moved on, and cruised around Fat City trying to find another option. That's when we spotted Cafe Equator. The gf had recently wanted Thai food, a desire on which I failed to deliver. I had recently made a curry (Indian-style), that also failed to deliver. Cafe Equator, however, did deliver. I love Thai food, and I've eaten a lot of curries - the Authentic Thai Green Curry was the best curry I've eaten. Ever. Very spicy and with that bright, lovely, almost effervescent liveliness that comes from fresh lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and other herbs. My gf went the more comfort food route, ordering drunken noodles, which I love. We both agreed, however, that these were extremely mild in spice, despite the menu saying they would be very spicy. The tom ka gai was similarly mildly spiced, almost to the point of blandness. I've eaten both of these dishes dozens of times, and I've never had two that were as mildly spiced as these. My gut feeling about this joint after one appearance? The drunken noodles and other dishes that are catering to Americans are lightweight, on spice and on flavor. Meanwhile, the slightly more expensive "authentic Thai" dish I had was worlds apart, absolutely delicious, and designed for people who like Thai food the way it's supposed to be: with bright fresh flavors, and a dose of heat. I'm knocking 1 star off only because of this disparity in the menu. Next time I come I'll order drunken noodles, Thai spicy-style, if they'll allow that. p.s. best Thai tea I've ever had.

Nothing exceptional, but solid. We've ordered: -Pad Thai: Meh. My least favorite. Won't order again. -Authentic Red Curry: Very good, spicy. -Pad Gang Dang: Nice and spicy. Wish I had leftovers for lunch today.

I really hate this restaurant with a passion. The servers are the worst of all. They look down on my boyfriend and I because we are a young couple, giving us super bad service while treating other tables like queens and kings. Why? Because we are kids and might tip bad? Excuse me but I have been working in the restaurant industry for many years, I think I know how to tip "correctly". As for all the servers working here, I hope all of you guys learn some respect towards everyone, regardless of age. Who knows the youngster in this generation will respect y'all elders more. That's what life is, "Treat others the way you want them to treat you." With that being said, you give me bad service, I will scatter pennies on the ground for you to pick up as your tip.

This is our go-to Thai place in NOLA. We have to stop here every trip. Restaurant is simple and clean. They have an extremely small parking lot, just fyi. We always get red curry and massaman curry. The lunch portions are awesome and come with an egg roll and small salad. Presentation is really nice. I just love this place! Very consistent over the past 9yrs I've been coming here.

Came here about 2-3 years ago for a date night. Both of us love Thai food, and I had always wanted to try this place out. We went a wk or so before Christmas. It had a steady amount of ppl when we came in. The service is prompt without being overbearing. Now, 3 yrs later & going through my fair share of Thai restaurants, I still describe their food as I did 3 yrs ago- its good. Not amazing but not horrible either. Its just good. Both of us ordered the usual Pad Thai. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere of this restaurant, but to me, its kinda the usual for Thai food. Give it a try, no harm in that.

I love this place! Especially for lunch! The portion is plenty and most plates come with edamame and a tiny spring roll! I recommend the Mussaman Curry.....big chunks of sweet potato and pecan halves in a delicious sweet and spicy curry! Yum! And they have Dasani bottled water!

John C.
Loved their pad thai. I've been to a lot of thai restaurant in the city but in my opinion they have the best pad thai. You can taste that the tamarind is there and their chicken wings are also delish. And oh loved their thai tea. I think they need to add tapioca to their tea to make it taste better. :)

The food here is good. But I like that authentic Thai spice. I always have to request for it to Thai hot. The flavor is great is decent. I crave more those rich n potent flavor of real Thai food. But this has to b the place if I was craving Thai food.

Service could improve, but the food is great. I highly recommend it. We tried the authentic red curry, lava beef, and samet. The portions were large so we definitely felt like we got our money's worth.

Ok, this place is a hit or miss. I've been here on three different occasions and the first time it was mediocre, second was terrible, but the third was really good. The first time, I had pad Thai and it was a little on the sweet side for my taste. Second time, I had drunken noodles and pad Kee mow. The sauce was too sweet and not spicy like the description. Third visit, We ordered the drunken noodles and the red curry with chicken. Both dishes were really good! I guess third times a charm.

Amelia R.
Great food and atmosphere the service is awful though. It almost seems as though you are inconveniencing the servers and staff by ordering food or asking for a drink. The food is awesome from the own ton soup. From the spring rolls and my favorite the red curry.

Great food they have. The staff is polite. The location is good. The parking could be better. The atmosphere inside is good. Not to dark or to bright its just right with decent amount of windows.

Ok so I've been here several times because its close to my house and here is the bottom line: The ambiance, food, and presentation is great, the service is somewhat slow, and the prices are high for what your getting. Equator is by no means a place I'd absolutely insist anyone to go to. There are plenty of good Thai places in this area for much better prices. However, if you like to challenge the level of spiciness in your Thai food than this place could be worth the trip for you! The kitchen staff provides 3 levels of heat on the menu "mild", "medium", and "spicy". As a lover of spicy food I always get the spicy, which definitely has a kick but is not by any means over the top. We were informed by the waitress that if we wanted something hotter than the "spicy" that we had before, we could ask for "Thai hot". So we did. And oh man....it will set your WORLD ON FIRE!!! So just a warning for the brave that there is a BIG jump between "spicy" and "Thai hot" if you should so ask for it. Make sure that you like the kind of hot that induces sweating...and perhaps some tears.

Another winner picked by Yelp. I was in the area and wanted Thai for lunch. The Yelp reviews looked great, so my choice was made. Cafe Equator is conveniently located directly behind Lagers in what I think was originally a bank. There is very little parking in front, but there are additional spots in the rear. The lack of easy parking may be the only reason it doesn't get five stars. I ordered the shrimp red curry and asked for it to be prepared Thai spicy. The server recommended that I order the authentic Thai red curry since it was far more spicy than the luncheon special. It was also double the price, but wow, it was amazing. The curry was spicy, yet had an incredible flavor. Service was wonderful, and the lunch specials are very reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant. Just come prepared to search for parking.

Who has a credit card minimum anymore? When I'm at work I often go places to eat alone. This place makes sure to tell you they have a 15 or 20 dollar minimum on credit cards as soon as you sit down. This is the ONLY place I've been to that has this. Pretty crappy business practice in a time where most things are going electronic.

The beef lava is very good and spicey, too. Tom yum soup is very good to start with. The lemon grass flavor, yummy.
Great place. They should take tails off the shrimp on pad tai.

Another good call Yelp. Alone traveling home a decided I wanted some Thai. Yelp sent me here and an awesome lunch it was. Don't do 5 stars much but simply couldn't find a thing wrong with my experience and meal. Decor was nice, very attentive waitstaff and the food was exceptional. I started with citrus beef salad and it had me literally scraping the bowl to get all the wonderful sauce. Amazingly good. I finished with one of their soups. Po Tak Soup (thai Authentic) It was a combination seafood (shrimp, calamari, tilapia), mushroom, lemongrass in spicy and sour broth. I ordered it spicy and the chef provided just the correct amount. Stop in this place and order of the standard lunch menu. You won't be disappointed.
(5)
Michelle S.
Lets start out with the pros - The sake was excellent! I feel like more Thai restaurants should take their lead and serve hot sake. The cons - We ordered the calamari (which was just meh... all the breading would fall off if you looked at it the wrong way) The sweet and spicy sauce was nice. I ordered the crunchy chicken pad thai and all the sauce was on the bottom and the meat tasted like it was reheated from the night before. I guess I am just spoiled from the freshness that Sukho Thai consistently delivers time and time again. Second there were no fresh bean sprouts or lime so kinda disappointing there. Service was good.
(2)
Jill Y.
I really really wanted to like this place, but it just wasn't up to par. FIrst, the service was okay - luckily they were quick with the drinks and our apps, but anytime we needed something, like hot sauce or limes, our server was no where to be found. Second, the food: We ordered: -Coconut Soup - I had to add chili spice and the coconut soup wasn't flavorful. -Pad Thai - only okay, nothing special (had to ask for lime..thought that was standard?) -Beef dish with green beans - it noted mild, but it didn't seem spicy at all, and there was only about 8 green beans The rice that came with the dishes had some crunchy pieces of rice that would get stuck to your teeth - it was weird. Surprisingly, they were pretty busy for a Wednesday night - actually had trouble finding somewhere to park. Maybe we'll try again, maybe we won't. Sadly, I've had fast food Thai that was better than this. Sorry, Cafe Equator. =(

If you like Thai food then you will love Equator! I have been to pretty much all of the Thai places in the city and Equator is leaps and bounds above the rest. I have never had a bad meal and have tried nearly everything on the menu. My favorites are still the pad thai, drunken noodle, beef lava, and massuman curry. I love their coconut and wonton soups. Lunch specials are great if you want to try it out with out spending a lot of money. They usually priced around 7.99 and up. The only bad thing is they have a small parking lot and the place seems to be always packed, especially during lunch rush. It is a shame that Breaux Mart is so adamant about towing, even though their lot is always only half full.

I go here whenever I crazy some Thai cuisine, but that's not very often. Of all the Thai places I've eaten at, I enjoy both Equator and Siamese (both of which are on Veterans, just on opposite ends). Equator updated the interior a bit, taking out the fish tanks and replacing them with really unique, ornate kettles. The service is still a little on the slow side, but there are new servers now, not just the same 2 that I've seen for the last god knows how long. The dishes I always order (some things never change lol): Mint leaf beef salad Pad thai Samet Tilapia The mint leaf beef salad has a citrus-y taste to it, so I'm in love with the dressing. I don't really eat beef because of the texture, among other things, but it's super delicious in this salad. To top it off, there's cucumbers! Mm. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The plate is can be used as an appetizer, but I can definitely eat it all by myself. The pad thai isn't spicy at all, even if you ask for it to be spicy (well, it was spicy the last time I had it. it's just inconsistent). For some reason, I don't like the pad thai as much as I used to. Don't get me wrong though, I do still like it. I just don't really order it as much as before. Their pad thai comes with an egg roll, bean sprouts, and peanuts, which comes on top of the pad thai so you can easily take it off or mix it up yourself. Sometimes, the noodles are little too soft, so it may feel like it dissolves (which isn't really a good thing). My favorite fish dish (anywhere) is here. Samet tilapia comes a little smaller with less sauce theses days, in my opinion. The dish has a bit of a kick, and the texture is soft but with some crunch :) it comes with a bowl of rice too, and I think the two go well together if you want to tone down the spiciness. Side note: if you ever find yourself in a parking dilemma, park by Breaux Mart. It does say they'll tow, but they never have every time I parked there. Also, don't tell anyone I said so =)
I have heard many good things about cafe equator. Man, were they all wrong. I LOVE Thai food so much, but this place was horrible. I came in with my girlfriend for our anniversary. There were only 5 other tables besides us. The server was extremely slow and rude to us. I ordered the red curry and asked them to make it extra spicy for me, my girlfriend ordered the pad Thai. Food came out, portions were tiny. My curry was extremely sweet, there wasn't even a hint of spice to it. Half way through my meal the server dropped the check off at the table when we weren't even close to being done with our food. She didn't even ask if we wanted dessert. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with this place. I would not recommend it to anyone else unless you like sweet food and horrible, rude, service.

I really like Thai food and haven't found that great Thai restaurant yet. I ate at equator and wasn't that disappointed. For appetizer, the Tom yum shrimp soup was very delicious and tasteful. Also we had the chicken wing which was good but too spicy for my taste buds geez. For entrees I ate the pad woon zen which is clear noodles which wasn't bad at all. I'll settle for this Thai restaurant for now since it was pretty good overall. The only disappointment here was the waitresses there. They all seem so rude and never smile. I don't get it. But it did made me not want to come back cause of the service. But for the food, not bad at all.

Ordered he pad Thai and basil shrimp. Noodles and sauce were kind of a soggy mess. Basil shrimp didn't have much flavor. Neither had much spice to them. The service was slow, and bathrooms were not clean.

Lunch is great for the price! I love the pad Thai! The only issue I have is that when you have a group that want to pay cash and each person put in their portion; the waitress had the nerve to tell us she can't give us change for a $20?! Really? You're a waitress in a restaurant..you make tips..hello!? So therefore the four of us ladies can't go for lunch from work. I just think that's insane, I would hope they improve on that end.

Cafe equator is awesome! The wait staff is fine, the food never takes long, and the food is consistent. Highly recommended! A few favorites: ultimate veggie fried rice, pad woon zen, pad Thai, coconut soup.

I'm that guy that shamefully orders pad thai almost every time i eat Thai. Sometimes the shame builds up to a point where I think to myself "perhaps I will try something different, expand my horizons, be adventurous!" During this phase I order something else, but it has never, ever been better than pad thai. I am excited to announce that all of this has changed. The Pad Thai here may actually be the worst thing on the menu. Not that it's bad (it's actually some of the best I've had since moving to New Orleans), but other things on the menu are just that good. You might think that I'm kidding, but I would never jest about such a serious topic. If you, too, have pah thai shame, I highly suggest you pay Cafe Equator a visit. side notes: service was super fast AND friendly! price is right too: ~10 for lunch! pro-tip: the massaman will blow your mind

I enjoy this place. The interior definitely gives a feel for refinement and class. The food is good. Just be careful about spicy foods. I would recommend the pha thai. The menu gives and an accurate description of each dish so even novices to Thai food can pick something they will enjoy according to their taste. Quick hint when ordering, when they say spicy, they mean SPICY. I was perfectly fine with paying a bit more for Thai food than I'm used to because of the service and the decor.

(5)Elizabeth C.

(5)Kristen C.
This place is not good. It used to be but something changed. I visited with my mother a few weeks ago. The food was so salty, it was almost inedible. Overly salty food means one of two things, poor ingredients or poor cooking.
(1)Mike W.
(2)Truc T.
(4)Charlene B.
(4)William L.
Definitely would not call this place a good value. Authentic green chicken curry tasted fine (nothing special), but the chicken was way over-cooked. Drunken noodles are forgettable. I have never been charged when asking for extra rice. Do not get orders to go.
(2)Denise P.
Very nice.
(5)Linda L.

Wow, I might have to go there for dinner tonight. lol
(5)Denver M.
Good food, service was quick and efficient and prices reasonable. There is limited parking, and if you have a big SUV you probably want to park on the street. Due to the other attractions in the area, parking is at a premium.
(4)Kev L.
(5)Judge M.
Let me begin by saying, the plate of Pad Thai I received was beautiful in presentation, generous in size and sumptuous. The ambiance is nice, and given all of the above, I was pleasantly surprised by the price. "So why won't you be going back?", I hear you asking. The service was not just cold, it was openly rude. My fiancé had already eaten dinner, and was only keeping me company. After taking my order, the waiter asked, "What, you no eat?", and upon hearing, "No", scooped the second place setting, and with an Academy Award worthy toss of her head stormed off. This seemed to set the tone for the remainder of our visit. Perhaps a to-go order might have been a more satisfying experience...we'll never know
(2)Kevin d.
Good Thai food in a nice environment. Even though it is in Metairie, the parking was crap. Most parking in and around NOLA is crap so I am used to it. It's definitely a bit pricier than most Thai places I have been around town, but the food is probably worth the price. I would definitely go back.
(4)Zachary A.
(4)Stephanie N.
My favorite Thai place in new olreans! I love the seafood pad Thai, fried tilapia ginger, and beef salad!! Every dish is delicious! Don't forget to try the jasmine tea over ice, it's GREAT!
(5)Annie H.

(4)Jenny N.

(4)Cindy B.
I have to say, I LOVE Thai food!! Cafe Equator is great. Their food is really amazing, and their service is pretty fast. Their Thai tea is delicious. The fried rice and green curry are my favorites. And of course, you can never go wrong with the pad thai.
(4)Vivian C.
(1)Kelli J.
(3)Lola G.
(1)Jeremy B.
This is one of the better Thai places in Metairie. Based of other yelpers help, I ate the the ultimate pad Thai with soft shell crab. Staff was kinda friendly, clean atmosphere. Not much parking, go to the rear or across to the grocery.
(3)Eleni F.
(5)Clair N.
The perfect place to take someone who has never eaten Thai food before. They have all the staples including delicious Thai Tea. It's very affordable for lunch to boot!!
(5)Casey B.

(3)Makiya D.
Great food, small portions. I had the spicy basil fried rice and the pad Thai both were really good. I would recommend this place and go back again. It is definitely the best Thai place in New Orleans!

(5)Scott H.
(4)Brad B.
This place is the best. The lunches are the right size and price. I try to eat here when ever I'm in the area. They do not have much parking that's the only negative.
(5)I Love g.
One of my favorite restaurants in Metairie. Excellent food and atmosphere. I always get Lava Beef and it is out of this world.
(5)Thuy N.
(4)Tuna D.
(4)mel g.
ordered take-out from them today. while waiting for my food i noticed a sign on the wall saying cafe equator was included in the top 100 thai restaurants in america. this makes me sad because the food was mediocre. their tom kai soup was bland - all coconut, no spice. the pad thai was equally bland. the yellow chicken curry was ok, but a bit heavy on the creamy-ness, not nearly enough curry. not worth a repeat visit. my search for excellent thai continues...
(2)Shannon S.
(3)Jani J.
Quickly seated and approached by our server. Good atmosphere. Good food. Good price. I would go back.
(4)Quynh D.

(3)Andrea F.
(4)Anna L.
I love Thai food, but Cafe Equator falls flat for me. Food was really bland, but at least the thai tea was good...
(2)Bonnie L.
(5)AuraLee P.
(3)Ashley H.
(3)Paige J.
(2)Hong N.
Used to be one of my favorite restaurant . I loved their Pad Kee Mow (drunken noodles) and frozen thai tea. Service was very bad though. ( tall skinny lady was not nice at all ) I will order togo from now on bc i love their food but not their service.
(2)Eugenie J.
(4)Cynthia C.
Love the Pad Thai with a touch of red chile and the red curry dishes. A great place for lunch as it is quick with portion sizes that are ample but not too large. The only challenge is it can be difficult to find parking if you don't go early.
(4)Melissa Y.
(2)Melissa W.
Ordered shrimp pad thai lunch - meh. I prefer pad thai from Singha or Pho Nola. Rolls had no flavor. The regular ice tea even tasted weird. They sat me at a table in the bar area which was okay, but dark. The server was nice.
(2)Ashley F.
(5)Jonathan S.
Lunch pad kee mao= decent Service= decent Atmosphere= decent Free refills on Coke 3 stars I think.
(3)Nicola L.
In my opinion, best thai food around - paneng (sp?) chicken and pineapple rice to be more specific! Only gave it 4 stars because sometimes the host and wait stuff can be a little unfriendly.
(4)becky h.
My favorite food of all time.
(5)Trixi T.
Drunken noodle with shrimp was good and the Thai wonton soup! The only negative was they will only use your credit card if your tab is near or above $15!
(4)Ryan B.
Thai food for me!!! Since I have discovered this place years ago , no other thai comes even close. The second you walk into the restaurant you smell the seasonings and flavors of what you are about to enjoy. They also love to play relaxing spa music, which is odd and yet fitting. However, the only massage you will get here will be the glorious authentic taste of Thailand rolling over your tongue. How do I know it is authentic...I don't...but the menu said authentic and I like this place so whateves. They have some pretty solid apps including chicken sate, dumplings, gyrogrub(sp), and blanket Shrimp(which includes tempura fried shrimp, and delicious veggies- sweet potato is the best!). My one big gripe is that the Dumplings used to be pan fried and I would get them on every visit, but now they are deep fried and not nearly as good. The soups are when your lunch will begin to shine. The Won Ton soup is soothing and very simple with spot on taste. The coconut soup - I can't remember how to spell it but it is pronounced Tom Car Guy. I think that was what I used to call my old mechanic's listing in my phone contacts; Tom, Car Guy. This soup is bursting with flavor and extremely unique. I highly recommend it The main dishes are always amazing and consistent. I usually go with the Pad Thai as my staple. I get chicken and add extra veggies (there is a small upcharge). This is the best Pad Thai around. I usually ask for the spicy oil on the side to add a punch to the dish every now and then. That stuff is nuts, I will give you 3 dollars if you eat a spoon of it by itself. I challenge you! The beef lava, Massuman curry, drunken noodle, and Cashew Tori are all flavorful and will be an instant hit in your mouth. The lunch specials are cheap but because of that they fill up fast so be warned and prepare to get frustrated by a packed parking area. At dinner the entrées are bigger and are all around 12-14$. The service is very attentive. The Good: Amazing food Pleasant atmosphere service lunch specials The Bad: They changed the pan fried dumplings! boo this place is becoming so popular now, not sure why that bothers me(that is supposed to be a good thing right?) The Ugly: Not sure why, but after I eat here, an hour later I could easily eat it all over again....hmmm sounds like a "me" problem
(5)Bobby B.
(4)Jen L.

(4)Matt R.
(5)Michael K.
(5)Matthew B.
This place is just dirty. There are cobwebs in ceiling lattice-work, empty/used sugar packets on the floor around the table. Couldn't have sat us at a clean table? (or is this as clean as it gets?)
(3)Tiff D.
(4)Sefani G.
Awesome food. I get to go food from here often and it satisfies my Thai craving without having to drive and park uptown. Their service is indeed a little slow and a little too...curt for some people. Doesn't bother me though!
(4)Van N.
(4)Sheri C.
Yummy chicken panang. Price was ok for dinner. Service was sketchy at times, but overall great experience. Great flavors, Good size portions. I also like the ambiance; quiet, relaxed. Parking can be a pain in the butt, though.
(4)Victoria T.
(4)William R.
I never liked Thai. Then my wife made me try cafe equator now I'm hooked tum yug soup is awesome and the pad Thai is delicious.the atmosphere is always cozy. The staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely would recommend it to anyone
(5)Alex J.
(4)Abby N.
Nothing exceptional, but solid. We've ordered: -Pad Thai: Meh. My least favorite. Won't order again. -Authentic Red Curry: Very good, spicy. -Pad Gang Dang: Nice and spicy. Wish I had leftovers for lunch today.
(3)Tuyet P.
(1)Christopher F.
Both of the red and green curry was very good, good service as well.
(4)Jamie F.
(5)Allison D.
(4)Michele S.
(5)John C.
Loved their pad thai. I've been to a lot of thai restaurant in the city but in my opinion they have the best pad thai. You can taste that the tamarind is there and their chicken wings are also delish. And oh loved their thai tea. I think they need to add tapioca to their tea to make it taste better. :)
(4)Kim W.
The food here is good. But I like that authentic Thai spice. I always have to request for it to Thai hot. The flavor is great is decent. I crave more those rich n potent flavor of real Thai food. But this has to b the place if I was craving Thai food.
(3)Kris C.
Service could improve, but the food is great. I highly recommend it. We tried the authentic red curry, lava beef, and samet. The portions were large so we definitely felt like we got our money's worth.
(4)Holly N.
(3)Amelia R.
Great food and atmosphere the service is awful though. It almost seems as though you are inconveniencing the servers and staff by ordering food or asking for a drink. The food is awesome from the own ton soup. From the spring rolls and my favorite the red curry.
(4)Gabriel S.
Great food they have. The staff is polite. The location is good. The parking could be better. The atmosphere inside is good. Not to dark or to bright its just right with decent amount of windows.
(5)Katie S.

Just ok. Not a fan of the Pad Thai here. Some of the curries are ok.

To keep it short: The food was pretty good, Thai tea was delicious but the service was lacking.

I don't think I've ever given this place a review so here is a quick one. I recently went and had the most delicious sautéed calamari that I've ever tasted. It was super spicy and absolutely delicious. The entree is called Pad Shaa Calamari and it's the greatest thing ever. Calamari, Bamboo shoots, garlic and thai chili's. Just do it. Don't be a wuss.

Ordered the Pad Thai and Chicken Satay and this place does not disappoint! Great service and a solid place to grab Thai.

My fiancé and I had the chicken pad Thai. It was just ok, too sweet in our opinion. The appetizers seemed like they were cooked frozen, but the fiancé liked them. Doubt we will return. Thanh thanh is our Thai go to.
