The White Chocolate Bread Pudding is to die for! Probably one of the best bread puddings I've had! The Shrimp Nicole has a little too many mushrooms for my taste but it was tasty. Overall a great experience!

Had a fantastic meal here after our airboat driver recommended coming here. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Ok, so I went twice in one week. That's right, I drove all the way to Crown Point twice in a week to go here, so that should tell you something. The setting is wonderful. Located right on a bayou that you can see from the window, it's definitely a getaway from NOLA. The first time was for lunch. I had the Crawfish Étouffée. It came out very quickly and was very good. The second time I came for the 5 COURSE CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH. At around $35 you definitely get your money's worth. I had the Softshell Crab Foster and it was terrific, though my favorite part of the meal was the turtle soup and stuffed mushroom with red sauce. I was definitely keen on that red sauce. It also came with the redfish my mother ordered. I am a big fan of it. Make yourself a reservation and go check it out.

I'm giving this 3 stars because at the end of the day I want to be fair, the service was exceptional very attentive but then we were the only ones in the place. The food however in my opinion could've had allot more flavor, maybe it's just me idk but in all honesty I have family that live in that area and the way they cook their food taste allot better than this restaurant. Don't get me wrong the food wasn't bad I just felt like it wasn't made with any love or effort. I felt like they were more worried about the presentation of the food than the flavor. I had the BBQ shrimp poboy which was very bland had to add Tabasco just to give it some flavor, my gf had the redfish Almondine which was decent (had better) and for an appetizer we had the Charbroiled oysters, I liked the direction they were going with it and it was ok but it was the first day they were featuring them so you would think they would've tried to make an impression and the place was empty so what's the excuse? Idk It's a great place for dinner there's a beautiful view of the bayou and it has a very good feel to it but the food could've been so much better

First and foremost I am going to say that upon arrivel the parking lot was PACKED! I was worried on how long it would take. We were greeted as we approached the door by the hostess. She promptly seated us and apologized that they had a full house. Turns out the Shriners were having a dinner there and took up 1/2 of the dining area. This did have one downfall in that it was loud. The high ceilings and open dining area caused all the chatter to be very loud. The best part of our whole experience was the phenomenal service! I would say the whole dining experience from arrival to exit took about 40 mins! It was incredible. They were prompt, courteaous and our food arrrived quickly even with a full house! It seemed the staff worked together as a team to make sure everything flowed well. Now for the food. I wasn't impressed with a few things and that is the only reason I am giving it 4 stars. The crab boullettes were good but just ok. My onion soup was a little thick for my liking but I did enjoy how they did the crouton and cheese topping. It allowed for me to get some cheese and bread with multiple bites. My dining partner liked his garlic shrimp pasta and my loaded backed potato was yummy!

I have read hundreds of reviews on yelp for restaurants and other services. My husband and I rely on yelp to guide us to the best restaurants in whatever city we happen to be visiting. Yelp has never steered us wrong. I never felt the need to sign up for an account and post my own review . . . until now. We were planning to visit New Orleans so, of course, I yelped the local restaurants. The only restaurants that came up with 4-1/2 stars were Commander's Palace and Restaurant des Familles in Crown Point. We went to Restaurant des Familles, and it was AMAZING!!! We were greeted by Brooke, who happens to be the owner. What a doll she is. She is so friendly that you feel like you've known her your whole life by the time you leave. We sat by the window and what a view! We even saw an alligator. For appetizers, we tried the oysters and crab meat au gratin that comes with toasted bread. We also tried the alligator stuffed mushrooms. I have to admit, I was really scared to try alligator. My husband took the first bite and told me it was delicious. After I heard that, I took a bite and was pleasantly surprised. In fact, I think that was my favorite item of the whole meal. The flavor was amazing. The other appetizer was very good as well. For entrees, my husband got the catfish foster, as recommended in many reviews. He was not disappointed. It was fabulous! I ordered the crab cake barcelona. OMG. It was huge! I order crab cakes at lots of restaurants and have never, ever seen such a large serving before. It wasn't fried either. Yum! Unfortunately, we were stuffed and there was no room left for dessert. I saw red velvet cake on the menu. Darn! This restaurant is about 30 minutes south of New Orleans and well worth the drive. I urge you to try this restaurant the next time you are anywhere nearby. You will not be disappointed. The prices are great, the view is amazing, the service is top notch (our server was Tori and she was very attentive), and Brooke is friendly and very helpful with the menu. By the way, we went to Commander's Palace a few days later and enjoyed everything about Restaurant des Familles so much more. If I could only choose one restaurant to eat at while in New Orleans, I would pick Restaurant des Familles! It is an incredible restaurant in every way!

We stopped by for lunch after hiking at the Park. We tried the shrimp creole, the red beans and rice, and the crawfish ettoufe. We kept eating off of each other's plate, the dishes were all so delish. I'm a rb&r fan and this was in the top couple I've ever had... just spicy smoked sausage and a dark rich base. We had great service, and really enjoyed talking to Brooke (turned out that she and husband Brian are owners). What a great fun out-of-town experience, but oh so close to take guests for a Cajun culinary experience. We'll be back soon.

Had some friends visiting from the "Left Coast" and we were heading out to Lafitte Nature Preserve to check out the swamps. But first, we had to get some grub and I had been dying to try this restaurant for several months now. It's a bit of a drive from downtown, but well worth it. We had made reservations, but with Essence Fest happening plus the drive we missed our reservation time by 45 minutes. When we pulled into the parking lot, I was already hooked. In two pirogues in the front of the restaurant they had tomato's growing and fresh herbs. The hostess greeted us holding the door open as we walked in. I apologized for missing the reservation time, but she replied in good spirits, "I didn't think you were going to show up." As we were between lunch and dinner, the restaurant had a few diners. The dining room is spacious and big windows face Bayou des Familles. Consequently, it has plenty of natural light. Very well appointed. After procuring a round of drinks, we were hankering for some appetizers. We wanted alligator stuffed mushrooms, but they were out. We settled for oysters rockefeller. Not quite as good as Antoines in the French Quarter, but if you have never had Antoines, these were pretty first rate. My friends had the salmon and grillades. Both were very satisfied with their meal. I chose the shrimp and grits. Beautiful shrimp, not shrimpy sizewise. Yes, I know its just grits, but whatever they do to them makes them tastier, than grits that I have had else where. We had an excellent waitress who was attentive without being overbearing. This place has an excellent vibe. It has the vibe of a real classy first rate restaurant, without the classy first rate restaurant price tag. It was a destination. We came, we ate and then went for a 2 mile walk in the Lafitte Preserve.

I was skeptical about this spot but it is the closest place to get food by the bataria bayou at .3 miles away which was vital. It is a really large restaurant that is likely used as a party venue. We came dressed in post-bayou clothing (sneakers and shorts) & it was no problem. The lunch menu had options between $10-$15 and they made a pretty good po boy, I opted for the half which came with a decent gumbo but the full size po boy is pretty big (the waitress questioned my boyfriends ability to finish it, unfortunately she was correct!) the food being just fine the best part was the back wall of the restaurant lined with windows that overlook a lake (swamp? It's pretty) where 2 crocodiles live. If for some reason you don't see any alligators at the bayou this is a sad, but justifiable consolation prize.

Came here for lunch after swamp tour. One of the Best restaurants in New Orleans. Ordered 1/2 seafood platter and it was delicious

This place has the best seafood in the Greater New Orleans area as far as I'm concerned. It's a drive but well worth it! The seafood platter is more than enough for two people to share. Definitely try the fried shrimp regardless of whatever else anyone orders. It's set in a very charming location and if you sit next to the windows you'll very likely see some swamp wildlife. I noted below that it has TVs but that's only in the bar area where you can also eat.

EXCELENT FOOD, ok service. Would give it 5 stars if service was better we came around 2pm and there were only about 4 tables with customers. Had to tell the waitress to fill our drinks and bring ketchup, twice. Food was outstanding! Had the almond catfish. Best catfish I have ever had. Light breading, fluffy, fresh and very tasty. Wife got the shrimp and oysters. Shrimp were huge and fresh. My 6 yr old son never compliments the food, but couldn't stop talking about how tasty the chicken fingers were. Would definitely recommend and come back again.

I can't even give enough praise to this establishment. We had a great meal with superior service. The shrimp lafitte was awesome. The seafoos was fresh, the sauce creamy and full of great spice and the pasta cooked just right. I also tried their turtle soup and it was to die for! The view from the main dining room over looking the bayou are was beautiful! I must admit I was disappointed with not seeing a gator while we ate! Lol...The outdoor seating area was so cozy looking as well. We look forward to a visit with friends to try out that big outdoor fireplace soon! Thank you for a great meal with pleasant service! Keep up the great work!

Crown Point is a bit of a drive from almost anywhere on the Westbank, but well worth the trip. I just love the Crabmeat Remick as the appetizer. I usually get a cup of seafood gumbo, which is very good. I always try seafood gumbo where ever it is served because my grand father was the Executive Chef for the Fountain Blue Hotel in New Orleans and Chef at the St. Charles Hotel back in the day. His gumbo set the standard both chicken and seafood, des Familles gumbo is very close with real whole shrimp and lump crab meat. For the main entree I really enjoy their lightly fried seafood platter with a dirty rice that includes sweet corn in the mix. My wife doesn't like it because of the corn. I do because it is a different take an an old food item. I also have had very good Catfish Almandine, Catfish Foster (very rich) and the Redfish Marcel (a bit pricey). It is hard to choose when we go, which is usually on Friday nights, about 5:30pm to beat the crowds. The staff is very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. I always get my Dixie beer at des Familles. Dixie beer is hard to get around here. I do not know why. However, when they were out the server steered me to another beer with similar qualities off the top of her head. I was impressed with the selection. I know it is not wine, but beer goes with seafood my friends. The ambiance is very nice. I like the view of Bayou des Familles. Though in the summer it can be overgrown. Last time we were there we had a great view of an alligator resting on the shore. Hope he moved off after we left because he might end up in the very good Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms, yum. Just kidding. Check them out. It is worth the trip.

Great spot with a beautiful view of the bayou. Weave your way through the menu and you'll even find some stuff that's not fried! We showed up for Sunday brunch after a gigantic meal the night before. We weren't hungry at all but were seated quickly, in hopes that our appetites would arrive. By 3pm, still no appetites. Our fantastic fantastic waitress said, "if you can't eat...you can always drink, that's what team I'm on!" So we drank until we got hungry. She was totally right. And awesome. Love this place!

Terrific dinner, especially for this area. Don't miss the chargrilled oysters! We spent a few days fishing in Barataria, and tried several restaurants. This was the only one in the area that I'd describe as worth going back to. Everything is perfectly prepared. They have a decent wine list. The service was quick and friendly. I think every good looking young lady in the bayou works here. I had a steak, which was perfectly prepared, but tried several dishes my fellow diners had ordered. All were memorably delicious. Melt-in-your-mouth BBQ ribs, perfectly golden-fried softshell crab, and the highlight of the evening the chargrilled oysters. DO NOT miss them. They really pick up the flavor of whatever they're being grilled over. Great appetizer to share.

Excellent food, and great service. The restaurant is beautiful... one giant open-air cabin, nestled right in the swamp. Both indoor and outdoor fireplaces add to the ambiance, as well as a separate bar if you're just looking to relax with a cocktail. The food is wonderful, and very reasonably priced. The staff is very friendly, and work with a sense of urgency. The wine list is surprisingly robust for a seafood restaurant out in the swamp. Kudos all around. Pro tip: Order the turtle soup. It's faaantastic.

  • Lonnie R.

Food is over priced. Charbroiled oysters are smaller than my thumb in shells the size of my hand. Shells I'm guessing are reused per order and oysters come out of jar or can. Fish was so so. If you want to try this place just to try in, but there's better.

Came here for a quick lunch after the swamp tour. Has a nice casual atmosphere with a cool view of the swamp. Ordered the seafood gumbo, onion rings & shrimp Po'boys, all of which were really good. My friend went a bit adventurous & tried the turtle soup. Unfortunately none of us really liked it. The service was really good though. Our server, Kristi, was super friendly & made us feel right at home. A good pick overall.

My husband and I had our wedding here, best decision I ever made. We live in Houston so it wasn't easy planning this, but Brooke (the owner) and all the staff were just amazing! The ceremony was set to be outside at a different location, but had to be moved in doors at the last minute and they made sure everything was perfect. The food was fabulous, everyone had a great time the staff even got into it and had fun with us, it was great. Every time we come into town we stop by for dinner. My favorite Restaurant and totally worth the drive.

I sure did love eating here. The turtle soup was tasty. It's nice sitting near the windows right on the edge of the nature reserve. Gators regularly cruise by, sometimes making it up the bank to bask in the sun.

My wife brings home this big to-go box. After sitting in the fridge for a couple of days, she asks "do you want to try an oyster???" That like asking superman if he wants kryptonite because I have gout amd the high protein content 19-22g in 1 oyster can literally make it where I can't walk. When I saw the shrimp (more like prawns)--I was astonished. Then when I looked at a fried oyster that was so lightly breaded you could see the details of it through the batter. Add to that a homemade tartar sauce with the perfect amount of dill, and even an ice cold fried leftover was delectable. It didn't even compare to Mandina's on Canal St. The food can only get better when fishermen start going from boat to market in Lafitte. Once I was working on grand isle and a man asked a mini-mart clerk "where's the fishing dock?" She said "there is no dock, they (boat) 40 minutes to the seafood market on hwy 90 in westwego!, that's where all the seafood goes....." Lafitte is building a seafood market where you can unload your boat and move your catch 50 ft. To a stand. Westwego is building a new seafood market on the other side of hwy 90 in "historic salaville." In terms of an 80 year old trying to relive the glory days, westwego wins. When you look at economics and convenience, Leo Kerner and the people of Lafitte are going to win bigtime, along with fresh picks for this restaurant that I have yet to visit!!!!!

This place has grown to become one of my favorite restaurants on the Westbank. The staff here are very welcoming and friendly. The food...omg.. The gumbo, fried shrimp , fried fish, steak, jambalaya, pasta dishes and chargrilled oysters are always a treat. They've never let me down. Can't wait till my next visit there

Just 30 minutes from New Orleans, this beautiful Acadian style home, right on the bayou feels like a world away. We started with onion rings & Crab Remick; a pile of lump crab with a remoulade-type sauce. My husband got the Redfish Marcel, topped with crabmeat, mushrooms & grilled shrimp. I had half shrimp/half oyster plate. All our food was fresh & delicious. The fried seafood had a light breading & was fried just right. All their salad dressings & tartar sauce are made in house & you can taste the difference. We shared the warm pecan pie, served cobbler style, with vanilla ice cream & caramel sauce which was just as good as it sounds. The service was attentive & friendly.

Restaurant des Familes is one of my favorite restaurants. I have dined here many times over the years and have never had anything less than a great meal. The first thing you notice as you pull in to the parking lot is the restaurant building. Built in the Acadian style, the restaurant appears to be an old home from the outside. Once you enter that feeling continues and I have always felt as if I were visiting an old friend's place for dinner. The dining area consists of two levels, each with a great view of the bayou that runs behind the restaurant. I prefer to be seated right next to the windows because it is closer to the action. What action you ask? Swamp action. Because this restaurant borders a bayou, you are almost guaranteed to see wildlife. On my most recent visit my daughter and I were treated to an alligator patrolling the bayou, an egret chowing down on fish and two hawks circling in what appeared to be some bird of prey mating ritual. The food here has always been very good. On my most recent visit I sampled the seafood gumbo and a fried shrimp platter. The gumbo was very good. Seafood gumbo is one of those dishes I rarely make, but I am very particular about how I like it prepared. Their version had a good amount of seafood and a very deep, flavorful base. The shrimp on my platter were obviously very fresh and were fried perfectly. The accompanying tartar sauce was also very good and considering that I rarely use tartar sauce, I used every bit of theirs. Over the years I have sampled nearly all of their seafood dishes. The fried dishes are always a star, but don't be afraid to try one of their fancier dishes if you're in the mood for something healthier. Whoever designed their bar menu must be a craft beer fan as their selection was very good, especially considering that they are located in the boondocks. They even had one of my favorite IPAs (Ranger) which went perfectly with my gumbo and fried shrimp. I really love this restaurant. Throughout the years I have had some truly memorable meals here. If you happen to be in the area for the national park, or you just want a great meal and a great view, head here and you will not be disappointed.

I'm very torn about this restaurant. First it's BEAUTIFUL. Really the views from the window are stunning and the grounds are really lovely. BUT my food was just OK and after making a point about saying no meat (especially in Catholic Louisiana on Good Friday), they served me dirty rice with my stuffed crab. The stuffed crab was OK; the dirty rice, I gave away and then there was a side vegetable, sweet cooked carrots which were again OK. But not enough food for the price. The garlic bread was yummy. Our server was nice. I felt bad for the hostess who kept having to check the men's room for occupancy since the ladies' room was out of order. The inside of the restaurant is pleasant. I just wish the food had been as good as the views.

A colleague and I had a late brunch here a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know what to expect. We were looking for some food before an airboat ride into the swamps. The building is rather unassuming and tucked away behind a run down set of structures. To our surprise, the interior was quite nice and well decorated. This was definitely a good sign. The menu selection was quite good. I wound up ordering the Jambalaya. It was very good. I think the best part was the wait staff. They were all quite friendly and attentive. They really made my visit quite memorable. Southern hospitality at its best!

Ate here on a Sunday afternoon. We were promptly greeted by Brooke at the front door and made to feel welcome. Sat us with a view to the bayou outside and sat Waiting to see the glimpse of a gator or two. We ordered the jambalaya and the catfish with artichokes and mushrooms, dirty rice. They were both delicious. We are not Cajun food experts, The rice was fluffy and moist. The fish was cooked to perfection for me, not dry at all. And the staff was nice and treated well. Will go back next time we are in NOLA area. It was a nice to sit and relax and soak up the ambience this place has. Thank you Brooke and Brian!

Super clean and friendly place very convenient the the Barataria Nature Preserve. I had a delicious seafood gumbo and a "stack" salad that featured fresh lump crabmeat, baby shrimp in dressing, marinated tomatoes, and hard boiled egg, all along side fresh greens. It was delicious! My husband got a 4 course lunch meal special for $16. A very good value in a charming location!

My good friend lives out in Crown Point, LA so I recently ate at Restaurant des Familles for the second time. It is lovely, far from the hustle and bustle of New Orleans, with an extensive menu of local specialties. I think their oyster-artichoke soup is alone worth the drive. Try to get a table overlooking the bayou for a view of an occasional alligator and turtles and birds. I was very pleased that they were able to grill the seafood platter for me rather than do it fried...I always prefer mine that way and the bread pudding was an excellent ending to a fine meal.

This place has an ambiance hard to find outside of Louisiana as most of the large windows surrounding the dining area give good views of the surrounding bayou (AKA swamps). The inside is a bit more of an upscale environment but I have eaten here in shorts and a t-shirt before. The majority of the menu seems be seafood with a large portion of that being of the fried variety. There is a smaller selection of non-seafood options and they also have a Sunday brunch. Everything I've had here has been good just not outstandingly memorable. The service has always been very friendly and efficient. This is a good stop for lunch before doing one of the nearby swamp tours and actually the last time I ate here there was a medium sized alligator drifting along in the bayou for most of my meal. LaFitte National Park is very near to this place and if you get your directions turned around you might end up in the park instead of the restaurant (I never ever have done that or have I...). This place is a bit of a ways outside of New Orleans so make sure you get very good directions.

I was trying to get lost down on the bayou of southern Louisiana and I stumbled upon the Restaurant des Familles. What a great place! The food was fresh and cooked properly. My server asked me if everything was cooked well? I told her, yes. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan. With my order I received a basket of garlic bread. That was some of the freshest garlic bread I have ever had! It was funny seeing a little girl ask her mother if she could order the garlic bread because it looked good on my table. I couldn't help but giggle a little bit. Good job everyone, keep it up!

I bought the Groupon for this place in anticipation of a trip my mom and I were taking to New Orleans. It was so nice to get out of New Orleans and see some other parts of Louisiana. We got to Crown Point about an hour before our lunch reservation and were thrilled to find the LaFitte National Park 5 mins from the restaurant. Once we had done some "hiking" we were ready for lunch. We decided on the seafood platters (catfish, oysters, shrimp and soft shelled crab)- one fried and one grilled. The fried was delicious- the batter was not too heavy and the flavor of the foods shone through. Neither of us were crazy about the grilled plate- mostly because the seasoning was overpowering to us. For dessert I ordered the bread pudding with a whiskey cream sauce- it was HEAVENLY! Mom got the creme brulee and thought it was a little disappointing only because it was not heated through. So the topped was hot, but the body was actually cold. If I'm ever in Crown Point again- I would definitely go back.

Overlooking the bayou, swamp water at the window, maybe an ibis or gator popping into view. And you are not at the zoo. This restaurant at the edge of the Barataria Preserve, in the town of Lafitte, not far south of New Orleans, is ideally located to begin to give one the sense of the real bayou. But this is no swamp shack. Rather, it's a full service, near-fine restaurant with separate bar and well-lit dining room with 40 or more tables, wrapped on three sides with a picture window featuring the main attraction: the bayou. The menu includes jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, and other typical Cajun fare, genuine and plenty of it. Sadly, no gator on our menu tonight, but then we weren't on theirs. So we had that going for us. Which was nice. Well-worth the 45 minute ride from downtown NO, and a good start to exploring the bayou, one of the real treasures of Louisiana.

Food is over priced. Charbroiled oysters are smaller than my thumb in shells the size of my hand. Shells I'm guessing are reused per order and oysters come out of jar or can. Fish was so so. If you want to try this place just to try in, but there's better.

I sure did love eating here. The turtle soup was tasty. It's nice sitting near the windows right on the edge of the nature reserve. Gators regularly cruise by, sometimes making it up the bank to bask in the sun.
