This place is right up my alley! It's a beautiful hole in the wall with food in a crockpot. It was a pretty quiet night during the middle of the week, but the drinks were strong, barstaff was very personable, and the darts area was functional. I wouldn't go here in a suit, but if you are looking to tie one on, give this place a shot!

Excellent dive, close to lake, homemade food at happy hour and feels like home..bring the crew for a fun night. Owner makes fresh food most nights to share to patrons and the place is a nice spot on the other side of the lake.

Great little bar. Stopped while passing through on a bike trip to New Orleans. The bartender was good company, the bar felt comfortable and good cold beer.

I was first introduced to the Red Barn Pub by my good friend and fellow Yelper Heather H. and I must say I was skeptical pulling up here. I guess you could say that I wasn't a dive bar type of person. I really didn't know what I was missing. This bar is in beautiful Old Mandeville and seems sort of out of place. If you don't know Old Mandeville, it's filled with homes that cost more than most people will make in this lifetime, the lakefront and upscale restaurants. It's a little intimidating to say the least. The Red Barn Pub is like the accessible cool kid in a school full of preppy stuck ups. The bartenders are super friendly and generous while pouring your drinks. There is always a crockpot full of food here for you if you get hungry. Wait. What? A crockpot full of jambalaya or gumbo if you want to eat it? For free? Yes. You read that correctly. I know. Pretty damn awesome. There is a great jukebox that you can control via a free app with your smartphone. Of course the songs aren't free but being able to control the jukebox while at a table and put Lil Wayne on while some redneck is trying to play some country crap is beyond awesome. Park across the street in the big lot. Call me if you go, too. I want to come!

Not a local Mandevillian, so really have no college memories or other ties to this place. With that being said, I have been here a few times and had some pretty good times Mostly, it's just the smoke and the staff that bothers me. Very stale and smokey bar, with a burned out bar staff. A good place to go for an after party if you're already a little tipsy.

The Red Barn Pub is an excellent dive bar. Truthfully, it is a dive bar with extras not normally seen in a true dive. The things that make this a dive are: 1. The building - Located in what looks like a run down shack, the building feels as if it may collapse when you head to the bathroom. I am not sure if it is the foundation, the floor, or the level of drinks consumed, but there seems to be a definite slope downward. 2. The atmosphere - It is dark, smokey and decorated with odd stuff hanging from the ceiling (moonshine jugs, street signs, etc.). There is even an old cast iron stove in the corner near the couch. 3. The couch - Normally I would consider this part of the atmosphere, but this couch is special. Most bars with couches use some sort of fake leather or other stain resistant material. Not this couch. It is cloth and comfy. I cant imagine what has soaked into it over the years, but I don't care, it is a couch in a bar. What's not to like? 4. The food - Nothing says dive bar like free food. Every time I have been there has been a pot of something available to eat. I think it is usually jambalaya, but they may rotate dishes. 5. The games - There is a ring toss game that fascinates me. I can spend hours trying to hook the damn ring onto the wall (Pro tip: swing it to the right or left in an arc. Don't try swinging it straight, or you'll miss). Now for the non dive bar items: 1. The beer selection - There is a decent bottle beer selection, including Stella Artois. I don't feel bad drinking nice beer at this bar, which makes it feel a little less divey. 2. The jukebox - This jukebox not only has Frank Sinatra, but it has Dr. John, Lil Wayne and even the Wild Tchoupitoulas. The regulars may have not liked me playing songs by all of those artists, but who cares? In summary, the Red Barn Pub is great. It does get fairly smokey or else it would be a five star dive.

I love this place. Kinda reminds me of a frat bar without the frat... great atmosphere, good people, and free grub.

Dear Red Barn Pub....I like you. I like your funny little lamps and couches. I like your surly bartenders. I like your crock pot surprises. I like your whiskey shots. I like your draught beer. I like your lack of a flat screen HDTV. I like your laid back vibe. I like you.

Every year I go back to Mandeville to ride in the Krewe of Eve Parade. The Pub is like an old friend just sitting there waiting for me to return. I like the atmosphere, the drinks and the people I meet there. This is not a bar for those of you who like a slick decor and techno music. The Pub is for drinking and making my friends. Just like an old, comfortable pair of jeans, the pub fits me.
