Decided to try the Old Rail-had not been and it has been open for a while. Sorry, but it just wasn't that good. Pulled Pork Sloppy Joe on Texas Toast-for smoking the pork in house, just did not have the flavor that it should of had. No juice either. The Chicken BLT.....very dry, pesto on one side, served on po-boy bread (adds to the dryness), no flavor. Would be better on a grilled bun, dressed. Had to look to find the bacon. The FF were soggy and way too salty. I think they were from the bottom of the fryer or had sat under a heat lamp for sometime. Maybe it is a better place for beer and a burger....it took them so long to open, it is sad that it was not better.

Loved this place! We stopped by on a slow Sunday evening. Everything we ordered was good, but the atmosphere was the best! Wait staff was great! Music was great! Beer was Great! We will be back soon!

OK, so it is the best burger on the northshore! Yep, was a great burger outing if there is such a thing. Both quality and quantity hit five stars for me. My wife could only eat half the burger and agreed on the quality. Joey the waiter said the sandwich consisted of two 4 oz burger patties but they really looked like 5 oz patties. Something unique was the bun which is served hot, and was a cross between a traditional bun and french bread ( very nice touch). We both opted for the fresh cut onion rings which were excellent also. This is a must try if you enjoy a high quality burger!

Great first experience. Quick food, great service. Beers are a treat and a great theme for the areas history!
(5)Trey M.
One of my family's favorite places. As good as their beer is the food is even better. Love everything I've had so far, esp. the Tuna Nachos & the burgers
(5)Christi M.
Great food, beer, staff and ambiance Parking is limited
(4)Ryan R.
They nailed it! The beers are awesome. I was very pleased with the food menu as well. The venue is beautifully designed and well thought out. With the location being in such a good spot, I imagine they will have great success in Mandeville. Try the Seven Sisters IPA or the Cow Catcher Stout, those are my favorites. Great to have a quality brew pub on the Northshore!

We went back this evening after receiving a email from the manager after my last review and our non meal due to a server never coming to the table. I didn't ask for Sarah as she had suggested because i wanted to be able to give a unbiased review. I ordered the roasted garlic and brie soup and the ribeye. My wife had the pulled pork on Texas toast . They were extremely busy but a server did come to the table in a reasonable amount of time and took our order. The pace of the meal was fine, the roasted garlic and brie soup is delicious even if it wasn't really hot, the ribeye was very good and cooked as I had ordered it and for the price is a good value. i would like to see it come with a baked potato instead of smashed potatoes . My wife enjoyed her pulled pork sandwich as well. All in all a good value for the price.

Great atmosphere. Wonderfully delightful bartenders. Fun food. Seafood cakes are great. Buffalo chicken Mac N Cheese is a grata adult take on Mac N Cheese.

Unexpected stop in Old Mandeville. Several blocks off Lake Poncetrain- Old Rail Brewing Company caught our eye. Settled in a neighborhood it serves as a local watering hole. Requested to taste the home brew and our waitress Leslie was very accommodating. Menu was interesting and they brew their own 14 ish beers at any time. Creativity would be the description I would give for menu. Chose the Oyster Poboy with cream cheese grits as a side. French bread was crunchy, oysters plump and not overcooked. Partner chose Brisket sandwich with Truffle and Parmesan fries. Presented well.Brisket was juicy and serving rather large. The choice of 5 homemade deserts cap off the menu. Building is old school brck and dark wood with large bar in the middle with multiple Tv's but not a Sports Bar atmosphere.

What a great place!!!!! Amazing atmosphere. Awesome beers and some of the best food we have had in mandeville since moving here. This is definitely going to make this our new regular place. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone. Kudos to the chef
(5)Mai T.
4 of us went to try this place out. Would I recommend it??...kind of in the fence about it. The buffalo Mac n cheese was good and that was it. The crab cakes were expensive for 2 little small cakes when I've had it at other restaurants and they're visibly a lot bigger. They tasted just okay...my friend had the old rail burger and he said it was dry. I shared the sloppy Joe with my hubby and when I cut the burger in half you could feel the bread was hard and dried out. The pulled pork was so dry with the dried bread I felt like my mouth had chalk in it and my jaw was tired from trying to chew. The dessert menu had a carrot cheesecake that we wanted to try but they no longer carried it so why not change the menu? Nice place, service was good,My friend said beer was okay but the cow catcher is good if you like coffee, but for food you're better going somewhere worth your money and be fulfilled.
(2)Kaitlyn S.
The wait staff is really awesome. I've never had unfriendly or unhelpful service at this place. It's mostly crowded whenever we go, so much so that we can never find parking available. In their defense, we've only gone on nights that seemed to have big parties on the top part, so maybe the parking isn't a problem during an average night. The food is good, but it isn't my favorite. I do like their beer, which is brewed at the restaurant. I have a lot of friends that love their salads, but I don't like salad or seafood, so the limited things that I can eat are good, but I'd rather go somewhere else for food. But even their gumbo wasn't great to me, even though I love gumbo. It's ok to me, but it's not my favorite place to eat.
(3)Nate A.
Very disappointing portion sizes for the price, the shrimp and grits "entree" was smaller than your typical appetizer, on top of that the entree itself was meh taste wise. Nothing about this overpriced place impressed me. I was still hungry after leaving and I will not be back!
(1)Scott H.
Beer - unique and delicious Food - best menu on the Lakefront Bloody Mary - bacon/honey rim... 'nuf said I have visited Old Rail a few times and I have been impressed with both the service and the menu. I honestly have not found something I don't like. A must visit on the Mandeville Lakefront.
(5)Woody S.
Love the decor. Food was very good. I had pulled pork sloppy joe. Good flavor. Wasn't a lot of sauce on it like I thought it would have. So, not so Sloppy of a Joe. But still good. Wife had the burger. It was very tasty. After having a bite of her burger I wished I had ordered that instead. Beers were good too. Only negative was very slow service. But we will definitely go back again. Hopefully service improves.

My boyfriend and I were just passing through this area for the night on a cross-country road trip. We wanted to avoid New Orleans and a friend suggested this little town to us. What a pleasant surprise! As soon as we checked in to our hotel we hopped on Yelp to find somewhere to eat. We are suckers for good beer so we searched breweries. This place came up, and after looking at the menu (brisket sloppy joe...whoa...what?) we were sold. When we pulled up we were automatically impressed. What a pretty building, and such a relaxing atmosphere. The staff was super nice as well (especially Dean, our bartender.) I had a little salad and the buffalo mac and cheese which was DELICIOUS, and my guy had the brisket sloppy joe. He woofed it down in 7 minutes. He is a brisket snob, being a Texan and all, but he went nuts for this sandwich. The beer was so good too! The IPA is bright and floral. He loved the milk stout as well. All in all it was an awesome experience. Go here now!
(5)Paula B.
This was our first time eating at this restaurant. We did not drink beer which seems to be the reason for so many high ratings. We just ate lunch. The service was very good. The food was just okay. The shrimp tasted like chlorine and needed seasoning. My daughter said that her hamburger didn't have much taste. I tasted it and it needed seasoning. My husband's buffalo chicken sandwich was mediocre. I don't think we'll be back because there is better food nearby. We did enjoy the location and view.
(3)Debbie C.
Loved Old Rail. Great beer selection. Great ambience, good appetizer blue cheese chips. Great pairing with my Hobo Hellos beer. Good bar service too
(5)Mo H.
The food was very good . We had Burgers & the portobello sand which. The pita fries were awesome. The beers were good. Good lunch place.
(4)Mallory W.
Went here for lunch with a co-worker, we were quickly seated as they were not that busy, even at noon on a Friday. Very friendly staff, ordered and got food very quick. Jake, our waiter, was extremely pleasant and answered all of our questions. I ordered the Chicken & Alligator Sausage Sauce Piquant and she ordered the Creole Shrimp & Grits. We both decided we LOVED the food but wish the portions were larger. When first taking a look at the menu we were excited because the price was do-able and everything looked amazing. The portions were tiny and we both quickly finished our meals with no leftovers. For me, a pregnant and moderately hungry woman, i was let down so much by the portion sizes!! Next time I will make sure to order an appetizer also, worth going back and trying again maybe for dinner when portions may be larger! :)
(3)Leslie C.
Not my favorite. Nothing on the menu really appeals to me. The burgers contain pork which was disappointing as I like a burger medium rare.
(2)Terry P.
Ok, it just keeps getting better with the food. New smoker helps make the best pulled pork sandwich! The Beer is still the best around!
(5)Blayne c.
Try the Golden Spike Wheat!!! It was amazing!! The Surf n Turf pasta was a little runny but very good and spicy. The Shrimp & Grits were mediocre. Grits were great and shrimp were seasoned perfectly but sauce was a little too much tomato. Service was excellent and atmosphere could have been better since it's a Sunday and games are on but music is playing.
(3)Tim G.
I went to the Old Rail Brewing Co with my wife last Saturday. Even though the restaurant was full with what looked like a long wait we were promptly seated. The decor is neat, custom touches to the beer taps, and foot rail of the bar. The food was well prepared and the prices were well below what I was expecting. Do not miss the deserts, we had the key lime pie and it was amazing, definitely made in house. I left the best for last, the beer this place is making is stellar. I enjoyed the ESB and the 7 sisters IPA the most but all was well done. The level of professionalism of the staff and the facility is second to none. The bar tenders are courteous and knowledgeable. This city needs more brew pubs!!!!
(5)Blossom B.
Best brew pub around! I feel that everyone thinks they are a good critic these days. Really people you are not all top chef judges. You have all lost the concept of where you were eating. The Old Rail is a brew pub and for a brew pub I find it to be outstanding... it exceeded all my expectations of a brew pub when comparing to all the brew pubs I have been to in the past. By far best atmosphere, beer and food. I am so happy the Northshore finally has a cool place to dine and unwind. Cheers to Old Rail for getting it all right! ( I only gave it four stars bc it seems when you give 5 stars on yelp they filter out your comment, but otherwise I would have given 5)

Firstly, I had really high hopes for this place. I've been waiting patiently for months for it to open so I was really excited to finally go. What a disappointment! Firstly - the building looks big but it is deceptively small. It was so crowded and there was a 45minute + wait which isn't THAT bad for a Saturday except there is nowhere for people to sit. They have these great outdoor areas but there is no seating and no tables. So basically you have to stand there with your drinks. The lighting outside was also really dim and since we were there after 8PM, it got very dark. Now on to the inside... HORRIBLE acoustics. It was so loud my friend and I were shouting the whole time. The bar is in the back corner of the restaurant so it was really crowded and hard to get a drink. The hostess staff was chaotic. They asked our name five times and we had to report in where we were because they didn't have the little vibrating things to tell you when your table was ready - they just walked around until they found you which doesn't seem very efficient. Now on to our dining experience. We ordered two appetizers: the House Fries (truffle parmesan) and the Buffalo Mac n Cheese. The waiter initially brought plain fries and when we pointed out the mistake and asked for the correct fries, he was rather argumentative about it. When they finally came out - they were delish! The garlic vinegar mayo is REALLY good. The Buffalo Mac N Cheese was not that great. It was plain maccaroni with chunks of blue cheese so not at all the creamy goodness you might expect. For my entree, I ordered Blackened Shrimp and Andouille Sausage over creole cream cheese grits. When it came out, it was covered in a tomato andouille sausage SAUCE and was not at all like the description. The blackened shrimp was barely blackened and the grits were bland. Thankfully the manager came over and was really nice about it - I sent my dish back and he took it off my check along with the fries after that mixup. After that, we didn't even bother staying for dessert because we were just ready to get out of there. I think they are still new and must have a lot of kinks to work out but overall it was a very disappointing experience. The fries and beer was good enough to warrant another try but it would have to be during the week when they are less busy.

We love this place. Always had great service, and a friendly server. We go here alot. Great for kids as well. Love the beer selection. I love the portobello burger
(4)Allie B.
on vacay with my boyfriend & found this place here on yelp. the food was fantastic & the atmosphere was really nice. service was very fast (we went between 1-2pm) only gave 4 stars because there was a small incident with my food, but they handled it & the manager came out & apologized. i got another meal & they took both off our ticket. i would recommend this place to anyone visiting south la.

NOM NOM NOM - Old Rail Brewing Co where have you been hiding? You are absolutely delicious! All three of us ordered lunch at this place and kinda shared our meals, we ordered: Corned Beef on Rye with cole slaw Overstuffed Poboys - Shrimp with fries Portobello sandwich with mac and cheese Everything was delicious and the Portobello sandwich was so juicy I was imagining it was meat, the macaroni paired well with the sandwich. We also ordered a flight of beers and ended up enjoying the cow catcher chocolate stout the best -- and we do not like dark beers-- I am a Blue Moon Girl!

From the Bleu Chips to the Watermelon Jalapeno BBQ ribs, this menu is full of unexpected surprises and tastes! The wedge salad is really the best I have ever seen. Matchstick slices of tart granny smith apples with delicious, high quality bleu cheese crumbles, bacon and nuts on an iceberg wedge with bleu dressing. The Seasonal Summer Salad has half spring mix/half romaine with seasoned, sauteed shrimp, goat cheese, sliced strawberries and spiced pecans with Executive Chef Monteleone's own Strawberry Vinegarette and is addictive. Many of the sauces are packaged and sold to be used at home. The crafted sauces would make great gifts by themselves or would present very well in gift baskets. The old fashioned bread pudding has white chocolate chips and a rum sauce. Simple and amazing. You can't review a brewery and not discuss beer. The beers are fantastic. My personal favorites are the German lager, the Hobo Hellis, which is also used in their fantastic beer batter onion rings, and the Cow Catcher, a dark. but extremely smooth stout with chocolate undertones crafted by Old Rails' Brewmaster, Matthew Horney. Old Rail is a hidden gem in the middle of Old Mandeville, by the Trailhead. The children's menu is extremely reasonable and makes for a very enjoyable dining experience for the entire family.
(5)Mark D.
Nice atmosphere. The food was good. The service started off decent then fizzled out halfway into our meal. I am a beer guy. When I go to a restaurant that brews their own beer, I usually like to try two or three different beers during the meal. I didn't get a chance because our waiter, Peyton, disappeared halfway through the meal. I finished my IPA, which was pretty good, then proceeded to nurse my water because my waiter was no where to be found.

I actually came here twice before posting my review. I wanted to try some things and see if this place would be consistent. It was. The place looks great and the wait staff is always on top of things and pleasant. But both times we did come for lunch, so that is what I am basing my review on. We've had an Irish sounding guy as our waiter and also a very pleasant motherly hostess that made sure all was good with us. Five stars there. The appetizers... We actually got the same one twice and are blown away. The Blue Chips. It is so flavorful and feeds two very well. We saw the Alligator Bites going by for another table and that also looks super yummy. But it is hard to order anything other than those chips! Five stars. For entrees, we have ordered 4 different things by now, between beef/alligator&pork burgers, a French Dip and a shrimp po boy. All of them have the exact same problem: no flavor. It's pretty incredible that a place that serves an appetizer as flavorful as the Blue Chips can mess up their entrees. The side fries are good, though. 3 stars. We did not try beers as we had our son with us. But we definitely want to come here on a date and try a few, they look awesome and very promising! Bottom line, this place got a solid 4 stars out of 5, and I would recommend this place for beers and a few appetizers instead of entrees.
(4)Dawn S.
I went with a group and we got a little of everything. And I must say.. That EVERYTHING was amazing. And I don't say that often. The fish spread.. On point, the pimento spread.. Fresh and perfect, the blue chips.. Homemade and scrumptious, the mac n cheese.. Unctuous with a homemade hot sauce. Soups and gumbo.. Among the better I've had in awhile. The ambiance has is casual, open, clean, and has character (with its railroad tracks as foot hold). Oh. And don't forget the beer!! The IPAs are oh so good (didn't try others). Beautiful and fragrant nose with a smooth (not bitter) finish, wonderfully balanced IPA. This brewery is a treat for the beer snob, foodie, football fan.. Really, just anyone. This place has it all.
(5)Jenna R.
Waited until this restaurant could get settled in until I tried it out and finally got the opportunity! The 4 stars are for an overall decent experience with a couple of misses. Got the 4 beer sampler and split it with my boyfriend. Left the choosing of the beers to the waitress and she came back with some pretty good ones to sample. Good amount of beer tasting for $7. Next, we ordered the Blue Chips for an appetizer, which was the best choice we made all night. They were fan-freaking-tactic! Great flavors with the home cooked chips, topped with yummy blue cheese, PICKLED red onions(yum!) and some kind of aioli. For an entree, we were both feeling sandwiches for some reason. I got the French Dip and he got the Reuben. This is where the misses continued to occur(service was a little slow) The french dip was underwhelming, as I expected it to be as incredible as it was described on the menu. I saw that there was mustard on it, but must have just thought they knew what they were doing. No! Mustard does not belong on a French Dip! Ok? Just no! At least not in this case. The roast beef was a little bland and the au jus needed way more salt. The Reuben had mustard on it too, which I tried but didn't mind it much. Overall a nice experience, but I was expecting way more from the pictures and reviews. Next time I'm going to try the Shrimp and Grits or the Alligator sausage entree. When and if I return to try these other entrees, I will update. Until then 4 stars for a great try!
(4)Ashley C.
Not so good anymore. A real bummer because they were so good when they opened! I still like to sit at the bar and have drinks with the hubby and order the truffle fries though!
(2)Becky K.
Great spot for a brew and/or dinner. Old Rail brews their own beer on site. Ask for the sampler. Absolutely the best shrimp and Grits I have ever had. Reasonable prices, friendly staff.
(5)K G.
Awesome location, great food, and of course, fabulous beer. Love their beer samplers and their seasonal selections and their food definitely takes "bar food" to another level.
(5)Kelley F.
Excellent food! Shrimp and Grits are amazing and the French dip is rockin! Looking forward to returning ASAP! The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was calm, comfortable and pleasant!
(5)Richard K.
Perfect spot to stop in from the bike trailhead and get a beer on a Saturday morning! And it being conveniently located across from the farmers market makes it a hot spot for the locals! Try the wedge salad and the seafood cakes. My all-time favorite dish!
(5)Roger W.
I will always give 5 star rating on a Brewery when the Brew Master will come out and describe his brewing procedures. The one beer I questioned did not have any written notes on it. He came out and described in detail the brewing process for this beer. The restaurant had a great feel and the food was above average. All employees were courteous and helpful. Our bartender even described the old train tracks that were behind the brewery. The taps are all rail nails and the foot rest at the bar is a railroad rail. Good selection of craft beers and great environment
(5)Meagan R.
Cool atmosphere. We only stopped by to try the beer and we also got the bread pudding. The bread pudding was incredible. It was just the right texture and it was topped with strawberries, chocolate and rum sauce. I don't know about the other food options but the bread pudding was great!!
(5)Gayle H.
This place is awesome! We were on vacation in New Orleans with our 2 young children (10 and 2). We all enjoyed the food. The changing table in the ladies room surpasses most I've encountered, they actually had pads for it, and wipes available. Outstanding! Wish I could remember our servers name (a very nice young man). Would love to venture back on another trip. Definitely worth the trip.
(5)David P.
This was recommended by a coworker who knows the chef. I really enjoyed it. Not many places around here locally that serve food and make their own beer. Zea's doesn't count as Covington Brewhouse contract brews their beer. Same goes for Gordon Biersch, who has a restaurant in downtown New Orleans, but the beer is brewed in San Jose, CA. While the missus and I had sandwiches from the lunch menu, we really enjoyed them. The onion rings were perhaps the best appetizer we've had. Yes, they were beer battered and considering they're a brewery/restaurant, I would expect beer battered onion rings. The fries are hand cut. My son had the shrimp and chips from the kids menu and yes, the chips are made in house. I am certainly coming back to sample more of their beers. As a fan of a good stout, the cow catcher chocolate stout was outstanding, and at a low alcohol content its nice to see a sessionable stout rather than yet another session IPA.
(5)Leo P.
Stopped off at this brewery/restaurant on the lakefront in Mandeville and was pleasantly surprised. I tried all the beers they had on top and enjoyed them all except for the barley wine. The seven sisters IPA was particularly good. The place is very large and looks beautiful on the inside, with a spacious bar. The bartender was prompt and attentive. Ordered the seared tuna salad which was slightly disappointing. The tuna steak was great but it was served on a plain bed of iceberg lettuce. However, the menu had several other delicious options and, looking around, the food appeared delicious. I think I just made the wrong food order. I'll definitely be back for the beer and will try ordering something else!
(4)Angie T.
There's a reason locals give Old Rail a perfect rating. It just so happens to be pretty much...perfect. I'll start with the superb service. I came in as soon as they opened. My waiter (wish I could remember his name, but he was a dark eyed blond haired cutie) was great. He brought out samples of the beers on the menu so I could decide what to have. He was such a sweetie it was hard not to slip him my number. Just kidding! But really, he was such a nice guy. The space is just absolutely gorgeous. The patio has seating that is to die for overlooking the lake and that is awesome in and of itself but...if a restaurant is even more beautiful inside...well, you know. Perfection. The Brisket Sloppy Joe sandwich. *sigh* no words, y'all. No words. Their fries are so great too. Hello Old Rail. So pleased to meet your acquaintance.
(5)Richard H.
Good on site brewed beer, good burgers, awesome homemade potato chips, overall a good experience, additional parking across the street.
(4)Greg R.
Eat at the bar. Guys are nice and friendly. Food is good. I love the Shrimp and Grits and the Pork Belly appetizer.
(4)Danielle W.
Wow...the food is amazing!! Started with an appetizer of the Bleu Chips and could have locked the plate clean they were so good. For my main meal I had the shrimp and grits, again, I would have kicked my plate clean. I order a feature seasonal beer called Sleeper Car Belgian Dark Strong. This was definitely a sipping beer but very good. This by far is one of my favorite restaurants in Louisiana.
(5)Steve G.
Great French dip and beers. They could work on better service. Better knowledge of the products they sale
(5)Liz M.
I love the outside seating and convenient location right by the trailhead (so it's a good stop for us when we bike to the lake). Food is not bad - definitely try the garlic and brie soup.
(4)John L. H.
After several trips to Old Rail, I decided to update my review. When I first visited there were the typical service issues that are expected at a brand new place. I am happy to report that those issues have been corrected and the last few times have been great. So great that I think this may be my new favorite restaurant on the North Shore. Old Rail is the first place of its kind on the North Shore. It is a true brew pub where the beer is brewed in house. If you sit in the bar area you can look through the giant windows and watch the brewers work or gaze in amazement at the stainless tanks. The brewing process is very intriguing, but the real reason I come is to drink it. Old Rail offers many different varieties of beer. I have tried nearly all of them, but my favorites are the Cow Catcher Milk Stout and the Echo Sierra Bravo (ESB). The Seven Sisters IPA is also great, but I cannot get over how good the other two are. Even if dark beer frightens you, try the Cow Catcher. It is incredible smooth. Trust me on this. The food has really improved from my first visit. Again, I have tried many different items on the menu, but a few dishes stood out. The French dip and the shrimp and grits are my favorite. I was never a French dip fan, but the description sounded so good I had to order it. It was the best version of that sandwich that I have ever had. I think it is the addition of the horseradish that made it so great. The shrimp were spicy, perfectly cooked and atop creamy grits. If I sound like I am gushing, it is because these dishes were that good. The one issue I have encountered is not their fault. Because it is new, and so good, the restaurant is frequently crowded. I have had to wait whenever I have arrived during peak times. They do have several comfortable chairs by the front door which I recommend if you do have to wait. In summary, Old Rail is awesome.
(5)Lorie K.
We had the blue chips husband liked them I felt the chips were overcooked he ordered the chili and the fish chips I tasted them the chili was awful it was watery no chili taste the fries with the fish and chips had no taste but the battered fish was excellent I o r deed hot tea what no hot tea I then got water I ordered the special pot roast the meat was decent the gravy the put on mashed potatoes was not good the atmosphere is good love the brick but I think after certain time not appropriate for kids it is a beer lovers place
(3)Bettina L.
Good food but not nearly what it was hyped up to be. If you have a picky eater in your crew or someone who likes plain Jane items, this is not the right place at all.
(2)Luke B.
Hometown atmosphere. Great service and good eats! Mai fish tacos were excellent...and the praline cookie was even better.
(5)Toni D.
Food is hit or miss but tonight was awesome! Tuna was delicious and lamb chops were good but the star was the King Cake Bread Pudding...Yum! The beer is always amazing and now they sell growlers! Yay!
(4)Ryan D.
5 stars! great service , outstanding food, and fantastic drink selection. it was an overall incredible experience. what a wonderful sunday restaurant to visit!!
(5)Jim H.
First time here, VERY impressed!! Fish and chips outstanding!! Onion rings amazing! Stout beer brewed on location and it is fantastic. We will be coming back!!!
(5)Lindsly R.
Pretty good!! Irish fries were great! It gets pretty crowded around 5. Their Amber beer was delicious. I had the French dip for my meal. It was good, not great, but good. Worth a try!
(4)Emily M.
Absolutely beautiful facility. Delicious beers. My boyfriend and I are really critical of beer and this place passed with flying colors. The strong ale and blonde were delicious, but the ESB definitely won in my book. Do a flight to get the full range.
(5)Joann H.
Took the hubby here for Father's Day and it's one of our new favorites. The beer sampler was a good value with 4 small glass in a long board so you can sample several of the beers they brew in house. As previous reviewers have noted, try the Cow Catcher. I'm not a fan of dark beer but this one was really good. Hubby ordered the onion rings and said they were very good. For the entree he went with the shrimp po-boy and I heard another "very good" rating. I went with the seafood salad and it was between "good" and "very good". On the "very good" scale there was a ton of seafood - crawfish, shrimp and crabmeat. On the just "good" side it was a little bland. Back to the "very good" - the citrus vinagrette dressing was awesome. They make all their dressings in house. For dessert the only complaint I had was they were out of the carrot cake cheesecake. We had our heart set on it the entire meal and were disappointed to hear they didn't have any (unsure if they were just out that day or stopped serving it for good). We went with the bread pudding with rum sauce and were as pleased as we could be considering we really wanted the carrot cake cheesecake! (Maybe next time...). The building is very large and new - great atmosphere and ambience. Our server was friendly and attentive. Unlike the Barley Oak, the sister(?) establishment, you can bring kids to Old Rail. We had our 19 month old with us and there were several other children and babies in the restaurant. They can cut up a bit and it's no big deal. Overall we'll definitely return. There were lots of other menu items that looked amazing and we found the prices to be extremely reasonable. We ordered an appetizer, the beer sampler plus two additional beers, the po boy, seafood salad, and dessert and were out of there for about $50 including tip.

Location, location, location. I had an early lunch here before a big bike ride on Saturday. It is right across the street from the Mandeville trailhead and is in a huge building. It was a perfect day to eat outside and the "adult grilled cheese" was delicious. As a small woman, I also appreciate that they offer "tasting size" beers. I had a "taste" of the cow-catcher milk stout. I had to, just because of the name. It was tasty and hearty. I should add that the "tasting size" are more than a thimble-full but small enough you can have 2-3 without a problem, the perfect tasting size (I'm guessing 4oz?).

Best Bloody Mary! Food was great! Can't way to make my way thru the menu. & our waitress was great with her recommendations.

Service was good and the IPA was excellent, but the food was low quality. We had the bleu chips, bowl of broccoli and cheese soup, chef salad, and chocolate brownie. The chips were burnt and lacking in the topping department. We probably would have ordered a different starter had we known that the chips were made from sweet potatoes. The broccoli soup was stringy with a hint of bleach, Panera has them beat 10:1 on taste. The chef salad could have used a bit fewer pieces of romaine core and higher quality ham. The brownie was good, but average. If we stop by here again, we'll stick to the beer selection.

Dang take a little grease off that fish! Ugh! I had to soak it up with 2 thick napkins and still was nasty. I didn't even dare try the fries. Thinking maybe the fryer wasn't hot enough but i have no idea why not on a Saturday night and place was packed?? Sad that many people had to eat such poor quality food. The fish dip was terrible, I know I'm not in Destin but it was awful. Doubt I will go back unless I'm there for a beer on the patio when it's warmer. Guess I have to give 1 star to post but I wouldn't do that otherwise

Lame, dry burger with limp fries. Nice building though.

Very good beer and very friendly, helpful staff. They really tried hard to make our visit fun. I did not try the adult food but my daughters enjoyed the mac & cheese. I plan to return since I head down that way often.

The beer is is great and I would rate it 5 stars. The service was great and I would give it 5 stars also. Our only "issue" was when our food came out it was cold. The waiter took our food back and after a little wait our food was served again. The food was good and we had a great time. After a few more visits I have updated my review.

Found this place after yelping for somewhere to grab lunch with the dogs after a hike at Fontainbleau. In the end there were no free tables outside, what with it being a sunny sunday afternoon, so my husband and I left the exhausted pups in the car (with the windows down, of course) and grabbed a table at the bar. Two delicious beers (a refreshing blonde and a wacky but delicious IPA) and a shared French Dip sandwich later, we were sold! We don't venture to the North Shore too often but I appreciate awesome breweries like this existing for when we do :) Edit: how could I forget to mention that the bar person was making some incrediiiiible looking Bloody Mary's. I don't even LIKE bloody Mary's and I wanted to drink this thing up.

Good pub fare with a Cajun flair. Beer is high quality crafted. Lots of TVs all around. I thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp and grits and the wheat beer.

Tip: Window seats are terrible between 5:30 and 6:30ish. Choose a table not a booth until they get blinds Let me say that the place has only been open two weeks so keep that in mind when reading my review. I will definitely return in a few months and update my review. I really really wanted to like this place. The menu has great potential but the execution leaves a bit to be desired. The food is mostly tasteless which is very unfortunate. Overall I feel that what the menu describes is not what you actually get. Almost like it is false advertising. Hard to explain so I'll go through dish by dish. The best thing we had were the truffle fries. Crunchy and truffley. (I know that's not a word but I'm sure you get my drift) Buffalo mac and cheese was just ok. Bottom layer is buffalo chicken then that is topped with fusilli pasta which has a little blue cheese on that. Another reviewer raved about this dish and we all just thought it was ok. We couldn't even tell it had blue cheese on it. (disclosure: some of us like blue cheese and some don't and even the people who don't were disappointed with this dish) Irish Nachos: Basically these are loaded cheese fries. These were good, nothing to complain or rave about. Beer and Cheese Soup: Terrible. The soup had ZERO taste. None. Didn't taste like beer or cheese or soup for that matter. Awful. Salt and Malt Vinegar Wings: These were good. The two people that ate them said that they could have maybe used more malt vinegar but they were decent wings. Maybe they could serve them with a side of malt vinegar? Our server brought out both dipping dressings, ranch and blue cheese. Again, the blue cheese had no taste. Overstuffed Oyster Po-Boy: Terrible. This is not a true New Orleans po-boy served on french bread. The bread is some kind of hard biscuit bread? (no one could figure it out but it was ROCK hard) with some fried oysters on it about 6" in size. Disappointing. French Dip: Mixed reviews on this one. Again, it has potential like everything else on the menu but just not executed right. The bread was falling apart (like a crumbly biscuit?) and there were caramelized onions on it which didn't really mesh with the rosemary au jus. The Rosemary Au Jus was tasty. Kids Grilled Cheese: Two thumbs up from our almost 8 year old. She got the truffle fries to go with it and gave two thumbs up for them as well. We ordered a flight of 4 beers which seems like a good deal. (We aren't beer drinkers) Beers came on a nice board where they write the name of the beers on there. Fun. Overall I'm torn between 2 and 3 stars but I've got to bump them down to 2 because of the evening sun coming in blindingly though the windows. Do not sit at a booth between 5pm and 7pm. Not only does the sun blind you but that whole wall of booths get hot! Maybe that is done on purpose so you drink more beer? ;) I'd think that as long as it took to build that building they could have gotten the air conditioning right and done something about the noise. There were 5 people at the bar and we were the 4th table of people to be seated and it was so loud that I couldn't hear the people sitting across the booth from me. Service was good and helpful and attentive. The hostess could use a little experience as it took her almost 5 minutes to figure out where to seat us. (remember there were only 3 other tables in the place) Again, the menu has such great potential but the execution leaves a bit to be desired. I want to like this place so much so I will go back in a few months and I hope to come here and update my review to more stars. Come on Old Rail! You can do it!

Sorry but the food was terrible. We arrived and had a drink at the bar. The bartender was nice and offered to let us taste the two light beers they had on tap. . We chose the Bloody Mary instead. It is a big drink with a ton of veggies sticking out of it. it was the highlight and only savior of this horrible experience. I ordered the chicken BLT and it was horrendous. It looked like frozen processed chicken mystery meat that was pre seared but with a strong burnt taste on the sear marks. My husband had the burger which was flavorless. Would I go back? Never. I would go through the drive thru at McDonalds before going back to this place. Did I mention it was expensive also?

This place is great! I come here a few times a month and have never been disappointed in anything. Service has been good every time, but Jake was by far our favorite. Very personable and he knew the menu very well. Impressed. 4.5/5

OK, in most instances I find brew pubs to be rather overrated. However, that's not the case with the Old Rail. I'll start with the location - the designers did an excellent job with the faux-distressed brick walls (something that's often over done but actually works here). The brewing apparatus add to the light industrial look but it works! So...cool space! On to the food - it's damn solid for a brew pub! The seafood salad totally rocked - really good shrimp, crawfish, and crab meat on a bed of fresh greens. The dressing is outstanding. A simple dish, yes, but very well executed. The Pub Burger - one of the best in the NOLA metro area (maybe not THE BEST but up there). But this is a Brew Pub folks - let's discuss the beer shall we? Beer is an unfortunate casualty in many brew pubs. Not the case here! I have tried several of them - all excellent! All have a good body, are well balanced, and the brew master shows great restraint in the addition of the hops (quite often, in my opinion, overdone in many microbrews.) These are seriously good beers! The place can get a little loud (and very busy!) at times - but that's to be expected. Service can be a bit slow at times (this is steadily improving so I'm not knocking them for it.) Bottom line: When did you say that Pumpkin Ale was going to ready? Let's be happy it's on the North Shore!

Solid brews. I really liked their IPA. Saison was good too. Clean atmosphere. Appears to be a fresh new facility with ample bar seating and dining. I ordered the catfish poboy which unfortunately had questionable bread. It may have been over toasted or stale? But it was a crouton through and through and exploded dry bread dust and crumbs upon munching. The shrimp inside the sandwich was fine, but the bread is key for a poboy. I would definitely return again when in the area.

Thie post office takes the telephone off the hook No business phone stays busy for over an hour, and when the line is not busy, they don'r answer the phone. No wonder so many post offices are closing.
