I had the Seafood Sampler Scramble with a Debris & Cheese Grits and Biscuit. Man, what a meal!! There was a short wait to get in the place. Once seated, the service was fast. The quality of the food was outstanding. The Seafood Sampler Scramble was loaded with shrimp, crawfish, fish, and vegetables. The Cheese Grits had Roast Beef shavings (Debris) and was totally delicious. The restaurant is small with a quaint atmosphere and a very comfortable ambiance. The servers are extremely accommodating and friendly. Liz, the owner, was circulating amongst the tables and displayed a very pleasing personality. Our brunch dining experience was a home run. Can't wait to visit with my Son and his family again so we can again dine there.

We were traveling to Houston Tx early in the morning and we seriously hungry. We had options to stop @ a food chain breakfast spot but we decided to go to a mom and pop joint. As we arrived the location was easy to find with its bright colors. Parking was a bit tight. Good thing we were there early because not even 10 mins later the restaurant was packed and eventually people were waiting to get in! It was a very quaint restaurant. Waiter weren't to personal. They knew that they needed to get everyone in and out. Amazing and very creative menu with full of choices. My girlfriend order a scrambler. All of the ingredients were fresh and very tasty! I order the half and half Benedict's for only a $1 up charge to get half and half. Presentation we excellent! Eggs were poached perfectly. Cheese grits was the best I ever had but they were a little cold. We could tell that the bacon was homemade. Nice and thick well done smokey bacon! Our experience with the food was excellent but service wasn't as much. We weren't there for the service anyways. We will defiantly return back for bunch! I highly suggest trying this gem out!

The food here is by far, wonderful! The price is a little higher than what you'd expect at a diner, but for what you get, it's very worth it. All of the dishes with crab cakes and fried green tomatoes are to die for. The customer service was exceptional by giving us pointers on their favs and even offering the try two plate. It is my favorite breakfast place in this area and I would recommend it to anyone.

So good. I mixed my bennies and both the Big Easy and the Nawlins Benies were fantabulous. Only complaint- wish the had Bloody Marys

The decor is cheesy but the food makes up for it. This place is always packed for breakfast and lunch. Tip: they close at 2pm. If you are coming on the weekend be prepared to wait for a table. Best eggs Benedict I have ever had and they have a few different variations.

Where Y'at? If you're not at Liz"s, you should be. This diner is so very awesome. It's eclectic and laid back. If you love a great brunch (like moi) then get ready. The food is the best on the Northshore. Picture this...black and white tile floors, old time Nola faves on the speakers, seriously cool art on the walls and then there's Liz. A tiny lady with a huge personality. She introduced herself to me and took my order. I am an eggs Benedict addict so imagine my surprise and delight when I was informed I could mix and match the "benny platters". Yes. Very much yes. I chose the Debris Benedict and the crabby Benedict. That crabby one was good, no doubt. The roast beef debris one had me whimpering for my mommy y'all. OMG. Get that please. You'll cry it's so dang good. I'm still thinking about it three days later. Shredded roast beef atop a homemade biscuit topped with grilled onions, poached eggs and hollandaise? Where in the heck has that been all my life?? Go. Now. You will not be sorry.

I have been going to Liz's "Where Yat" for 5 years. The food and service are outstanding. All the Eggs Benedict are excellent, and particularly the "Crabby". The best sandwich is the crabmeat grilled cheese, truly excellent with crabmeat, cream cheese, grilled asparagus, spices and red peppers on a brioche bun

  • Jana B.

Super funky decor, nice servers and delicious food. We had the "Debris Benidict " and "Easy Breeze Scramble". The Debris Gravy and caramelized onion on the Benedict was so good, loaded with tender roast beef, perfectly poached eggs and fresh Hollandaise atop grilled biscuits. The scramble was just as good with generous portions of bacon, sausage, ham, bell pepper and onions. The food was served quickly and with a smile! It was a Wednesday midmorning and this little joint was still busy. Parking is a challenge, the lot is tiny. But if you're motivated you can figure it out!

There is no place better to eat brunch The atmosphere is unique and the staff are all super inviting and friendly!!! Liz herself has stopped by to our table to see how. We were enjoying everything. We have eaten there multiple times and every time they have hit it out of the park!!!!! My personal fave is the crab grilled cheese with sweet potato fries. It is DELISH!! My husband is a fan of the berry waffles and grits with the roast beef debris. You have to try them all!!! You can't beat the quality of food at a reasonable price. It's casual upbeat and really yummy!!if on the Northshore and looking for a place to eat. Look no further you have to add this to your list. The only drawback for me is they're not open for dinner. I'd eat there then too if they were open later

Best stop for breakfast in Mandeville! GREAT service and great menu choices. Very cool dishes and a really fun atmosphere. The breakfast is great, and the eggs Benedict with crabmeat is wonderful! You can pretty much get anything imaginable for breakfast here, so try something new and exciting that you can't get anywhere else. So....Where Ya'at???

Stopped by after a weekend in NOLA! The best decision we had all weekend. Tried: Banana Foster Waffle: Probably the BEST waffle I've ever had in my life. Came with caramelized bananas, powdered sugar and whipped cream. It tasted like I was eating banana foster ice cream- it was that rich. I could only eat half, BF ate the rest. I would drive back to Mandeville just for this waffle. Eggs: scrambled. Pretty good The Grand Slam scrambler: BF ate this- came with eggs, cheese, hot sausage. Awesome flavors and a pretty good amount. Came with a biscuit (which he dipped in my syrup banana foster mix and grits which were very good!! We sat at the bar- service was great and the girls were very friendly and knowledge-able. Overall, my favorite place for breakfast- and reasonable priced :-)

Really enjoyed this place. Everyone is upbeat and happy and deliver great service. The food is incredible and I would definitely go back! You can't miss this place if you going through!!

Seriously, don't go here unless you want a full belly of amazingly outstanding food. The shrimp n grits were the best I've ever had, and enough shrimp to last the whole very large bowl of grits. The food is wonderful. The decor kitschy and you can purchase it if you like. The staff was friendly even though the place was packed. We're planning on going back tomorrow. Save us a table!

This food is great. Atmosphere is better. Breakfast served all day long This place is great. Wait time is normally 10 or 15 mins to get in at peak times definitely worth the wait

The hubs and I stopped by for a Saturday breakfast while on a weekend getaway. When we fist pulled up to the diner, there was no parking- which we have learned is usually a sign of good food. We were not disappointed. Even though the restaurant was packed, we were quickly seated. We ordered an egg and cheese breakfast biscuit, an egg and sausage breakfast biscuit, and a Banana Foster Waffle to share. All of our food came out in a flash. The Egg Sandwiches were simple and tasted delicious. The Banana Foster Waffle was awesome, almost a dessert. My husband can't stop talking about it. All the staff were friendly and prices reasonable! Oh, and the table had tons of condiments- which was great because we always have to request some sort of hot sauce- but not here! They were ready for us! We really loved this bright, cheery, bustling diner. If we lived in the area, we would be regulars!

I have no complaints! I have had both breakfast and lunch here and loved both! This restaurant is the BEST place in Mandeville for breakfast hands down! If you are hungry and in the area STOP HERE!

Not All of That..... I visited this restaurant on a recommendation. The decor is definitely a plus, funky and eclectic. As for the service, not friendly. The wait was understandable on a Sunday morning, but after a long wait, my food was cold, and another in our party's order was wrong. The server did take back and they made over the order that was incorrect. Cold food in a restaurant is a pet peeve of mine, but by the time we got our food, hunger took priority over cold food. I really wanted to like this place, since the owner is an alum of my alma mater, but don't think I would be returning. There are enough other good breakfast establishments to visit.

Great place...cool decor and the food was fantastic. My wife had shrimp and grits and they were amazing. I had a ham and cheese scramble which was equally good. Definitely recommend it!

Wow! I heard sooo many great things about the crab grilled cheese from my family so I had to try it. It surpassed my expectation. So many layers of flavor and expertly prepared and presented. The service was unmatched. I hadn't even finished half of my coke and I was brought a new one. I will go back again and again. CHECK IT OUT!!!

This place never fails. The food is consistently creative and delicious. If you're lucky enough to be around when Liz is manning the ship, her cheery, genuine welcome will make your experience even better. (She never forgets a face, Like, ever.) The BBQ shrimp po-boy is divine, as is the chicken salad and shrimp salad. I find it to be a bit overpriced and loud, but that never stops me from coming back.

Found this gem while passing through Mandeville. We were actually looking for a different restaurant when we noticed Liz's. Couldn't be happier that we picked this place. I ordered the BBQ Shrimp Po-Boy and my sister in law ordered the Shrimp Remoulade Po-Boy.....both excellent choices. The ambiance was delightful. We both purchased the tie dyed shirts for our daughters. Customer service was excellent and the owner made rounds to check on every customer, which as a business owner, I appreciate that little touch.....means a lot when the owner cares. Also purchased the coffee to take home. To my surprise at check out I was given a $5 gift card. Sad, we don't live in the area to use. So on our departure, I found a sweet elderly couple that was from the area and offered them the gift card. They graciously accepted as they are regulars at Liz's. If I lived there, I would be too! Great place! Definitely will return if in the area......want to return just to take my husband!

I had some really outstanding shrimp and grits here for a late breakfast today. The prices are up there, but the food is worth it -- top notch.

My folks have been raving about this place since they first visited a year or so ago. So, during my recent visit we all went together to give it a try. Ambiance/Decor - the place is a combination of beach shack and diner. It pretty much says "fun" the moment you walk in the door. Very casual - not pretentious in the least. "Fun" 60's music playing in the background (Ray Charles, Beach Boys, etc). Service - very friendly - the kind of place where the staff calls you "sweetie" and Liz herself comes by to check and make sure you are enjoying the food and experience. Food (the most important part) - Very very good. We were there for lunch, so can't comment on breakfast. I had the shrimp remoulade & fried green tomato po-boy. The other items I tasted were the chicken salad sandwich, sweet potato fries and the daily special of meatloaf with mashed potatoes. For dessert we got the hummingbird cake and pumpkin spice cheesecake. The po-boy and meatloaf were both excellent. On the po-boy the shrimp are boiled (not fried) and done very well - not overcooked. Combined with the fried green tomatoes (which are, obviously, fried) and just the right amount of remoulade it was a winning combination. If they had used both fried shrimp and fried tomatoes it would have been too heavy - but their combination is just right. Given this is Louisiana it goes without saying the fresh french bread was just like it should be. The meatloaf didn't have the layer of ketchup on top like many might expect (a good thing in my opinion), but was very flavorful, moist (not dried out) yet still had a nice crust on the exterior. I ended up finishing the rest of it (in addition to my po-boy), because it was so good (and it was a generous portion). The potatoes were also quite good. The chicken salad sandwich was a good, solid sandwich - I wouldn't order it over many of the other items I saw on the menu. One item that surprised me were the sweet potato fries. Usually places make a mess of these - serving limp, soft greasy fries - but these were crisp, well seasoned and cooked through without being burnt. The hummingbird cake was good, but the cheesecake really shone. It's quite light - not heavy - and really well flavored. It went before the hummingbird cake. Regarding value - for the quality of the food and portions - I thought it was very fairly priced. Overall - a very good little place being run by someone who really cares about her business. If you go once chances are high you'll go back many times.

1st time visitor. Very good. Great atmosphere. Liz is awesome. Service is excellent! Had to give it 4 stars; potatoes a bit plain for my taste. Good breakfast potatoes have a richer flavor in my opinion. I would def visit again.

On a recent trip home from Biloxi, MS. to Baton Rouge, my friends and I stopped in at Liz's Where Ya'at Diner in Mandeville, LA. The service was amazing! Although they were closing at 2pm and it was 1:50 when we walked in the door, they happily served us. When we left, they offered us drinks in to-go cups as well. The food was absolutely fantastic. I got the Bayou Scrambler and all of my friends raved about how delicious their dishes were. The fried biscuits are the best I've ever tasted. The decor is kitchsy, fun and bright.

Found this place on yelp. Live on the south side of the lake, but was heading to state park on the north side- so looked up somewhere to try. So glad I found this place! All it took for me was they served various eggs benidict. My only reason for not 5stars is the parking. Although there is parking around the place- very difficult and almost got blocked in. But the food- definate 5 stars!! Both my mom and I tried two of the Benedict's; crabby and N'awlins with the spuds, very thin sliced hash browns. My dad got the BBQ shrimp in a pocket, very great way to serve. Whenever back on the north shore before 2p will be back!! Try more

Read the reviews, someone's lying! Not impressed. Small portions, the eggs were poached, I think. Service was sub-par. Waited 20 minutes for the waitress to order. Terrible coffee. I had the Eggs Sardou, which was very good tasting. Grits are grits. I would eat here again, because I like food. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Knock your socks off good down home cooking! The place has a bright up beat vibe, you'll often be greeted by Liz her self when you walk in and the service is always quick, friendly and helpful. Be warned the menu is big and you have plenty of options .. being a breakfast connoisseur I tend you order breakfast food morning, day and night so that's mostly what I'll cover here. First the simple stuff. The biscuits are amazing, soft, buttery a little crispy with a melt in your mouth consistency, I could eat them and be content. The waffles have a great, rich and creamy flavor on their own .. but take the waffles or biscuits and cover them in just about any type of gravy or sauce from Liz's and you've got one of their signature meals that will leave you feeling stuffed and ready to come back for more (after you've had some time to burn off all those calories). You won't find a better breakfast on all the Northshore, simple as that!

Great place, friendly staff and good food! Fun, funky atmosphere and my kids loved it!My daughter had a waffle that was huge and delicious, I snuck a couple bites! I had an egg sandwich, with pepper jack, and a side of asparagus. I added the asparagus to my sandwich and it was delicious. None of the food was greasy and everyone left full and happy!

I don't what else to say about this place that no one hasn't already said!!!! It's the most intriguing place I've ever been. Absolute the greatest waitresses. And then there is the food!!! Out of this world. I only wish there was one on the west bank or in New Orleans. It would just be closer and I would go more often. A PERFECT GEM!!!! I will return over and over!!!!!!

Stopped in for breakfast with a group of six on an early Sunday morning. Was seated quickly by a courteous staff. The waitress was cheery, fun, and attentive. The menu has extensive offerings (almost too much) and everything looked good. I went with the special, chorizo breakfast tacos with potatoes. Everything tasted great and the portions were spot on. The wait staff kept everyone's glasses full throughout our time there. My only complaint was the price of my meal. The ticket total was $16.75 for two tacos, potatoes and a diet coke (I didn't check the specials menu pricing when I ordered). I will be back, but I will definitely check the prices first to avoid sticker shock.

We stopped here in a Friday morning. It was pretty busy and the eggs Benedict was calling my name BUT it was as I said Friday. :( (no meat for me) So instead I opted for the almond french toast. My husband and daughter had the bananas foster french toast. I can tell you this... It was no sacrifice! WOW!! They were both delicious. We were all complimenting each and every bite. Love this little stop! We will be stopping here on our way back through LA.

I enjoy going here as often as I can. The food is good "home style cooking" and the service is really good. The owner visits with every table to check on you. I've never had a bad meal here. The place is small and due to its popularly there can be a wait at times.

Liz's Where Ya At is a wonderful little locals place blocks away from The Lake. It has a warm Florida Keys feel, serving breakfast and lunch. Enjoy an array of basic breakfast items from eggs and toast, waffles, Benedict's to delicious chorizo or fresh fish Tacos. Sandwiches, Salads and fresh fish are an added bonus to the menu. Service is very good; I like to sit at the counter and watch the hustle and bustle. It's very busy which speaks for itself. Liz is also there and greets all tables; she is sincerely and cares about her guests and quality. Don't forget to try their Iced Coffee! Thanks, Liz and staff!

This is a great little diner on the Northshore. They have a great selection of Eggs Benedict on the menu, including several with crab cakes. There was a bit of a wait when we got there but there was coffee outside to make the wait a bit more tolerable. We sat at the bar and we met Liz who is a wonderfully nice lady. We each got a benedict, which is Wendy's favorite, they are a wonderful dish and Liz has several. I had the one with the grilled fresh tomato and crab cake and Wendy had the one with the fried green tomato, both we outstanding. Wendy got hers with the home fries, and I got the grits, Wendy loved her home fries. The grits were ok, even with the cheese and roast beef debris. Ive had better on the southshore but they were stone ground. We also met a nice gentleman sitting next to us at the bar, who suggested the crab and cheese melt for lunch. When we go back I will be sure to check it out. The prices were about par for the course for this type of food on the southshore, but maybe on the pricey side if you are used to IHOP or Waffle House prices, but well worth the step up, the quality was outstanding and the service was very good. They turn tables quickly here, and that servers are buzzing around pretty quickly, and we didn't get our iced water but really that was the only complaint.

This is one of those bizzare, yet worthy places that should be on DDD. The building is eclectic, but the food and service are right on point. Delicious food, superb service, friendly, clean, Liz's is top notch. Liz makes her way around the tables and visits. She is genuine and friendly and really wants to please her customers. Mrs Eva had crab cake salad with the most awesome sweet potatoe fries. I had red beans, rice, and andoule sausage. Everything was tops. We have put this fine establishment on our "must visit again" list.

  • Emily T.

Absolutely loved Liz's!! The funky southern interior is fun and bright. Regardless of how packed out the restaurant was it was a fantastic experience. Service was quick and friendly. We had to wait to be seated (about 15 mins) but we sat right out front on a bench where there was hot coffee with creamer and sugar outside readily available free to serve yourself. Phenomenal food. I love Louisiana cookin' and Liz's for breakfast (I had the spinach and artichoke Benedict and marinated pork Benedict) was a great choice. I had the option to try two different Benedict's instead of the tradition one style. My boyfriend had the fried chicken Benedict which was delish as well. Can't wait to go there again. Growing up on Cajun style cooking, I would recommend this 5 star local spot to anyone local or out of town. Won't disappoint!

We ate there Friday for breakfast with our former neighbors, who told us about the place. I had the grits, topped with biscuit, roast beef debris & scrambled eggs YUM YUM. others had the French Toast & Sausage patties, grits eggs and biscuit. It was great food prepared out of the box and our server was great with frequent coffee refills as we sat and talked after breakfast. We will return for samples of the other food fare & will return with others, who have not found the place yet. We are new to the North shore and plan to do so sampling of the food served on this side of the lake. So far we have not been disappointed by any of the many places we have been and love the North Shore.

I was headed to a family party on the northshore and as I crossed the Causeway I remembered that my brother had given me the menu...and it really wasn't stuff I was going to eat. AND I remembered that John LH's favorite spot was between me and my destination. I know they are busy on the weekends but I hoped as a single, I could slip in quickly. Yay for counter sitting when you're all by yourself. Plus I basically had the whole staff checking on me during my time. AND Liz, herself, stopped by and introduced herself and welcomed me. Love it! I had the shrimp salad sandwich which was super tasty and delicious iced tea. Will definitely be back when I'm in "northern New Orleans."

So good. The servings are ample. The atmosphere is very casual, bright, and fun. The staff is super friendly. The service is a liiiitle slow, but only because they are so popular. Most importantly, the food is delicious!

Stopped here on a road trip. I didn't want fast food so this placed popped up on yelp and I decided to give it a try. It was exactly what I wanted. The N'awlins Benedict was really good. I really liked that they used a fried green tomato as the base for an "eggs benny" dish instead of a heavy english muffin or biscuit. I also liked that they use lump crab meat. Although my favorite part may have been the spudz. They were sliced thin almost like a cross between a potato chip and a home fry. Very tasty brunch!

This place is definitely not for me. While not all bad, it was certainly not all good. The good: Waffles seem homemade, with a good balance of flavor and texture. Poached eggs were cooked just right; not too soft and not too hard. Biscuits seem homemade with good flavor. The bad: Coffee, nothing special. I really didn't like it. Fried chicken looked like frozen out of a bag. Just like you get from the grocery. Eggs over medium were served overcooked, hard and extra crispy on the edges. Benedict should use english muffins, not biscuits. It's all about texture, which biscuits lack. Table service- not overly friendly and missing basics, like serving cream with coffee or offering napkins and maybe refilling coffee when its been empty for over 10 minutes. The worse: Sausage gravy which has to be the worst I have ever seen. Watery and devoid of flavor, except for the sausage it contained. All of this was a shame, as I was excited about the possibilities when viewing the menu. After my experience today, I won't give them another chance.

Liz's is the best breakfast place on the Northshore. I have been coming to Liz's since they opened, and it has really impressed me. The staff are friendly and most days Liz will be roaming the restaurant talking to customers. Liz worked as a server for years and it shows. The server handles your food order, but several other staff members take and fill drink orders. This ensures great service even on busier times. Speaking of busy times, this place is frequently packed. Weekends are the busiest, but even weekdays can get filled. It may be time for Liz to open a second, or larger location. The food is incredible. I normally stick with the same thing because I love it, but everything I have tried has been great. I normally try breakfast items, but on my last trip had a roast beef po-boy which was excellent. The beef was homemade and shredded old style. I really enjoyed it. My favorite breakfast meal is the Shockey Scrambler. Sure Jeremy Shockey doesn't play for the Saints anymore, but this dish is awesome. Scrambled eggs with hot sausage, pepper jack cheese and Cajun hollandaise all combine to make this my favorite breakfast of all time. Liz's is open seven days a week, but only till two. This is one of my favorite places. If you haven't been, you should come here as soon as possible.

I'm sorry we have tried eating here twice. Once during lunch and once for breakfast. Both times food was nothing special and service horrible. I'm not sure if we have just have had bad luck or what because everyone else raves about this place. Third time a charm?

In Covington for a meeting. Stopped here for lunch. Nice staff. They all work together. Food is awesome. I had the seafood gumbo and BBQ shrimp sandwich w/sweet potato fries. Great flavor, fast and reasonable prices.

Awesome food, great service and they even gave me $3 cash for bridge toll. I will be back if I'm ever in Mandeville again!

Our wedding photographer recommended this place as a must go to for breakfast. We are hooked! We go every weekend. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The food is always delicious. And you can't beat the prices for the quality and quantity of the food.

In an area filled with amazing food options, I was so surprised that one of my favorite dining experiences on my recent trip to the New Orleans area was at Liz's Where Y'at Diner. The service was impeccable. The food was mind blowing. This cute little diner is exactly the kind of place I would go to all the time if I lived there. Great job ladies! I hope to return soon!

This is really good food! Waffle with various toppings. Chicken fingers and scrambled eggs; with bacon; every kind of eggs benedict. Fried green tomatos were tops. Packed on weekends. Serving breakfast and lunch.

Liz's diner is an absolute gem. Plus, there's nowhere else quite like it on the Northshore. Delicious Louisiana spin on brunch. Now, they've got sandwiches and lunch fare, but the breakfast is really where y'at. We did: * BBQ Shrimp and Grits ($10)- absolutely INCREDIBLE. Super creamy and cheesy grits with tons of shrimp. Now I didn't taste the BBQ that much but I wasn't missing it. * Debris Benedict ($9)- roast beef debris with perfectly poached egg and tasty hollandaise. Highly recommended. Comes with hashbrowns or grits. * Eggs Benedict ($8)- lovely basic benedict * BBQ Shrimp Poboy ($10)- good, but it's hard to be the best poboy when Bear's is around. Now, our waitress was fun but took forever to get to us. She never came back after taking our order either. I'm going to put that aside because the owner, Liz, is just so dang awesome. She talked with us for a good twenty minutes... plus the food is just... SO. GOOD. Note: They do take out!!

Love coming here to get a mushroom swiss burger. The prices are very reasonable. My only complaint is how tiny the restaurant is and how loud it gets filled up. Despite that, the service is always good and food is consistent.

When I grow up and have my own diner, I want it to be just like this! I loved the funky art which covered the walls and had easy to spot price tags for purchasing It is a cute, funky, comfortable joint with a nice variety of options on the menu. We came for lunch and I had a Chef's salad which was HUGE and delicious. It was enough for 2 meals, or perfect for splitting. My partner had a club sandwich which she loved and we shared some very yummy sweet potato fries. If I am ever in this area I would come back without hesitation. We happened to be on the Northshore on other business, needed to have some food, and this was the number one pick for restaurants in the area, thanks Yelpers!!!

This bright and cheery place is sure to brighten up any morning. The staff are drinking the happy kool-aid because their moods match the fun decor. Lots of breakfast options to choose from, The eggs benedict was pretty fab and the grilled biscuits are amazing. I'm a huge fan of grits and not many places get it right in my opinion, but Liz does! You don't need to add anything to them because they are perfect just the way they are. The potatoes or "spuds" as they call it were a little bland for my liking and made me wish I had ordered them with peppers when they asked me. The waffle was perfect golden color ready to soak up some delicious syrup. It was the perfect "dessert" to my breakfast.

This place is so so so good! I seriously crave it all the time! The bennies are incredible, any of the ones with fried green tomatoes. Oh and the shrimp and grits...and the crabmeat grilled cheese! I haven't had one thing there that isn't yummy! The service is impeccable! It's always busy but the wait is never long somehow! Even it was, the wait would be 1 million percent worth it!

We go there for brunch as often as possible. It is always crowded. Still we go. And wait. They do a terrific job of serving a large group of people quickly and with a personal touch. The menu is very big. Typically, I frown at menu's this extensive but I get the sense that they can actually provide all of the items efficiently. I've only scratched the surface but I have never had anything that I didn't like. They work incredibly hard. Liz is a great hostess. She has a knack for what she's doing. You just get the sense that she loves serving people and that she very much appreciates her patrons. I'd love to see her open another place but I'd hate to see her spread too thin. 4.5 stars

This little place on the North Shore serves great food and all of the wait staff helps every patron. It was amazing. I had the crabby eggs benedict and it was good--crab cakes and benedict at half the price for both. The wife had another egg dish and she found it a bit dry. The noisy Sunday Saints football game competed with the din of the talking customers--it distracted from the overall service at many decibels above my comfort level.

Stopped in for breakfast on our road trip. I had the scrambler with bacon and cheddar cheese (really simple dish, not sure how they made it so tasty, but it was too delicious!!) and my boyfriend had the French toast (also wonderfully delicious!!). I had spuds and a biscuit for my sides, both were ok, nothing too special. Also got a side of sausage gravy to go with the biscuit -- it was also just ok. Boyfriend got a side of bacon -- excellent & crispy. Service was great, everyone was friendly. I'll definitely eat here again!

AMAZING!! Been here 3 or 4 times and I have never been disappointed. Sure, the parking is tricky but WHO CARES?!?! The food and friendly faces make it all worth it. I love the graham slam eggs scrambler but I'd be willing to try anything on that menu. Obsessed with the biscuit and sausage gravy. A must go!!!

Strange little cheery place with brightly colored signs on the walls...I mean, everywhere. There were a lot of kids at this place....JS. The place was pretty loud as well. The food was OK. I had a steak benedict that had a filet on top instead of canadian bacon. Not sure if it was actually a filet. It was not seasoned very well. The service was a little slow and not very attentive, but we there right at lunch time (no excuse, as far as I'm concerned...isn't this all they do?)!

Diamond in the rough! This little place on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Very small but don't let the size fool you. They serve breakfast and brunch and boy do they serve it! Menu is huge but the best part of this, there is something for everyone. Everything from Oreo Explosion Waffles, to Bananas Foster Pancakes, and Eggs benedict every way you can imagine. Liz (the owner) often makes here way around and checks on the guests which gives this place a real small town diner that is run by someone with a lot of pride for what they do. Food is top notch. If you ever wander in the Mandeville, LA region, this has to be a stop. Not stopping will only be a decision you regret.

We were here visiting from Atlanta and this place was recommended by our son. From the outside it appears to just be a small diner but it is so much more! The service was fabulous you could not ask for more from the friendliness of the staff and the food was wonderful! Everything was delicious and we will definitely be back when we are in town again!! Perfectly poached eggs and every type of eggs Benedict you can imagine!!

I came here for breakfast on a Sunday around 9 and was thankful they weren't packed; we got a table immediately. The menu is chock full of tasty options, but I went for something sweet instead of savory...the bananas foster french toast. It looked like french bread that's been sliced and fried, then soaked in some sort of rum sauce/syrup concoction. It is tasty, but VERY sweet. I liked it, but I would order something savory next time undoubtedly. The biscuits are a little crusty from being grilled. I usually like soft and fluffy biscuits but these are scrumptious! Next time I come back, I want something with biscuits and the debris...specifically, cheesy grits with debris! I had a bite of these grits from my father-in-law's plate and they were the best I've had. Service is top notch...Liz herself took our order and she was so sweet. Gotta love the friendliness of people in the south. :) If you're in the area, it's definitely worth checking out for breakfast!

There seems to always be a line and parking is often a problem. They provide coffee outside for those waiting. Unfortunately, not good southern Louisiana coffee. The meal was ok. I didn't find it special. Service seemed to be in a hurry to get rid of us. Usually, this is indicated by being presented the bill in the middle of your meal. There are other better options that have parking available and better food choices.

Best breakfast on the northshore in my opinion. Bannana foster french toast is to die for. Very inexpensive also.

Place gets packed - but is worth the wait. Liz is as cool as they come. True South LA compassion. Remembered all 5 of the kids we had in our group's names. Now on to the meal. ---Split eggs Bennies - meaning you can get them in halves! I have never seen that option even when eating 5 star. We had the following: - eggs Benny: half fried chicken half debris - eggs Benny: half pulled pork and half big easy - kids got eggs scrambled and bacon/sausage - grits Benny's are to die for. Entire meal was lights out. What are you waiting for? Get up there? Where y'at? Highly recommend this spot.

LIZ!!! STOP DELETING MY HONEST REVIEW!! Why do people like this place? Liz seems nice, but the truth is, if I don't like her pukish white gravy, she will come to your table and say, "YOU DONT LIKE MY GRAVY!" She will charge u for food U may send back because it tastes awful. So u will be charged for the crap food as well as the food u may want to eat. The waitresses wear such short shorts that the cellulite could make one lose their appetite. There is nothing she can cook in that little dirty hut that McDonalds or a kid can't cook. I hate everything about this place including her testimony of her success she wrote on her wall. GoodNESS lady... Where ya class at? No one cares about ur new found notability... We came here to eat! Give people some good food, put some clothes on that cellulite, lower your high prices for poor quality food, lose all that beach decor and stand behind that poor excuse for food. I cringe every time I see her have so many customers! Please people... Go to IHOP or cook at home!

Super-fun atmosphere & decor! Great service- wait staff went above & beyond! The N'awlins Benedict was one of the best meals I've ever eaten & I highly recommend it! Can't wait to drive through Mandeville & enjoy the yummies again! THE VERDICT - You must try this great restaurant!!

Amazing little diner. Fantastic food, friendly staff that makes you feel right at home and an owner that knows everyone's name. Try any of their creative eggs benedicts or home made meat loaf. I've never been disappointed.

BBQ SHRIMP POBOYS! Need i say more? This place is delicious, the owner is a doll, and the atmosphere is awesome. Its a great place for kids. I go as often as I can. Its the kind of place you tell your friends about!

Second time here. A must visit when visiting relatives in Mandeville. Great service, Eggs Sardou Rock! Cant go wrong with the Po boys. Try the Shrimp Remoulade PoBoy for an added treat. Even the fried green tomatos are delish! The only drawback is the parking which can me problematic at peak hours! But that's not enough to diminish the 5 stars!!

I have been to Liz's twice now and both times the food and service was excellent. First time I had the Southern Benedict with Spuds topped with sauteed onions and cheese. Second time I had the Debris Benedict with fries. If you're detecting a pattern here you're right, I like poached eggs. The second time I visited Liz introduced herself to me and I asked if my food was good, and really seemed to care what I had to say. If I lived closer (35 miles from my home) I would probably eat here at least once a week if not more. It doesn't look like much from the outside but you should give it a try sometime.

Our FIRST NOLA STYLE BREAKFAST. Can't remember names sorry to the Staff. I asked the lady that sat us to suggest a breakfast. After talking to her for a minute or two and answering questions as to my tastes, I put my meal in her hands. Eggs Benedict NOLA Style. My breakfast was: a fried green tomato topped with a generous crab cake then a poached egg and white sause upon it all. Next 1/2 a english muffin topped with spinach in white sause (just a touch of vinegar in the sause) and then of course a poached egg. To this feast was added a small bowl of cheese grits. My husband had the same but gave up the spinach for pulled pork. and the grits for fried potatoes topped with a fist full of homemade bacon bits. During the course of our meal and when the staff had a moment they came over a talked with us. We shared a bit of our travels and they shared little snipits of their lives. Liz greeted us and brought us samples of her shrimp salad & her chicken salad. YUM. When we left we felt as though we were old friends & customers. Take a look at the menu online. The cafe is small there are pincnic benches out front, a table with a large coffee server for your comfort while you wait When you see people milling around outside with cups of coffee laughing and sharing stories you know it will be worth the wait. Longest review I've ever written but, Liz's Where Y'at Cafe was worth it.

There's a reason why you are seeing 5 stars, yes because this place just flat out rocks. NO questions, no ifs ands or buts it's that good. A fun, energetic, all around cool place to be. Can you say Breakfast ALL day? It's no joke. OK so all day means their doors close at 2pm but honestly after eating the breakfast you won't be hungry for quite some time. From the moment you walk in the door you feel as if everyone is your long lost friends. Liz comes by every table, welcomes you, introduces herself and thanks you for dining at her place. All servers are super friendly and social. The food is just amazing. BF had the Debris Benedict and when you read that it has roast beef debris, don't be fooled. You are getting a huge order of homemade roast beef, not just some scraps of beef in this debris. I ordered the traditional Eggs Benedict. Equally as good as the Debris Benedict. If you haven't tried this place you need to.

Officially my new favorite breakfast spot. Incredible food. Impeccable, speedy service. Super friendly staff. Liz personally introduced herself and made sure our orders were perfect. We'll be back often. Every Benedict they offer looked great. I personally vouch for the Debris Benedict and Fried Chicken Benedict. Kids has waffles that tasted like heaven. Go now!

Ate breakfast here today. The food was fantastic! I've been trying to find someplace with good biscuits & gravy. I certainly found it here. Usually you get a gravy with some sausage here and there. At Liz's you almost get more sausage than gravy. The biscuits are grilled, so they don't turn to mush. The eggs were done well. Mine were scrambled with ham, sausage, bacon, tomato, green onions & cheddar. My wife had one of their Benedict's with fried chicken & sausage gravy. There was so much food, she could only eat half. The owner, Liz, stopped by to greet all of her guests and made us feel almost like regulars. Never mind the places in New Orleans, go to Liz's and enjoy yourself.

What a delightful, whimsical FEEL-GOOD place !! Do not fail to visit (again & again) this friendly, hip, FUN, epitome of a local diner that has been open a little over 4 years and is well on its way to becoming a legend. First, the owner, Liz, is the heart & soul of the place, always smiling, CARING about her customers. She runs a tight ship and her staff is always warmly welcoming. Living in New Orleans, one just automatically expects to find good food. Not only does Liz never fail to meet expectations, she excels. The combination of terrific food, and a super friendly atmosphere is just....perfect. It's football season, so locals were in their Saints jerseys. Lively music played and ever so often a Saints song would play causing Liz to sing and dance behind the counter and lead the restaurant in Saints cheers. The place was rockin' !! The interior is bursting with color, funky art, a warm vibe and unending good cheer. The menu is well thought out and offers an exceptional variety of dishes with ingredients that marry well, tease & tantalize. For today's breakfast we ordered the N'awlins Benedict - $13.99 Fried green tomato with sauteed crabmeat, green onions grilled asparagus & poached eggs topped with hollandaise sauce and a Southern Bennie - Grilled biscuit with sausage gravy over poached eggs - $7.99. Sides were cheese grits and bkfst potatoes covered in cheese and onion crisps (awesome, couldn't get enough). Letting your eyes wander around to other tables being served, one can't help asking "what did THEY order", "what is THAT....ooooh I want some". You leave with a happy, enlivened spirit, a FULL satisfied tummy (and as is typical in New Orleans) already planning on what you're going to order the next time. The thing about Liz's Where Y'at Diner is that you NEED to come back for your fix.....to feed your body AND to feed your soul.

Perfection. The varieties of Eggs Benedict there are the best I have ever had. Boudreaux's Bennies is my favorite. It is topped with Crawfish Étouffée. I think Liz's Where Yat Diner is even better than Breakfast at Brennan's. Liz and the staff are always very friendly and the place has character like no other!

Liz's is awesome! I eat seafood but, no meat. Liz's has the most options for me! Frequently at brunch/breakfast places I feel I have to settle because of few options, Not at Liz's! Everyone will be happy here. Very friendly staff, Liz is usually around saying hi to everyone. I can't recommend highly enough. Great food, good prices.

If you're on I-12 and hungry, this is definitely worth a slight detour. Fantastic breakfast. We ate there on the way out west for the holidays and the way back. Liz came around both times and introduced herself to everyone: "Hi,I'm Liz, this is my diner. Nie to meet you!" On our second visit a week later, she even remembered us. The entire staff is is extremely efficient and friendly. The strong sense of ownership that translates to extreme qualty. The food is outstanding. The grilled biscuits, gravy, french toast, eggs benedict, shrimp and grits were all awesome and delivered quickly even though the place was packed. It's so good we almost look forward to our next road trip to the west!

Burgers need improvement ! ! ! Wife's burger was red in the middle - she likes hers well done no red or even pink. We were not asked how we like it cooked. Maybe there is no choice if so there should be. Mine was okay with added salt. Fries were just okay also. Like the friendly owner sorry had to rate burger low. We should have ordered something else, but after a walk on Lake Front we wanted a burger. Roast beef poyboys are good.... This was second visit. Will try again, but not burger.

This is a great breakfast and lunch spot if you want some great New Orleans style food and atmosphere. For breakfast, the scramblers and the omelets are delicious, and I hear they also have some great lunch options. Also, the service is great. Liz has worked in the restaurant business all of her life, and the way she runs this place really speaks for the experience she's had. Overall, its great local restaurant to try out, especially if you're from out of town.

OK, I officially have a new favorite Baruch place in Mandeville! Liz's is the epitome of the "down home diner". By far the friendliest staff in town. They ask your name when you are seated and they actually remember it! It's all very informal but in the best way possible. The food is top notch diner fare with a few NOLA touches. Some of it may even be called big city fare with some down-home touches. The eggs Benedict is made with some excellent sugar cured ham and a hollandaise that does not disappoint. The waffles are some of the best in town. Heck, it's all good! As pointed out by Patrick, the building is hard to miss. Right there on Highway 190 (Florida Blvd if you prefer) near the Causeway Approach is the brightly painted establishment. And fear not - the decor is just as colorful as the building. It's flat out cool! They are only open for breakfast and lunch but what a breakfast and lunch it is!

So glad my friends took me to this adorable delicious little place! The atmosphere was so warm and inviting, the decor was cute, and the service was incredible. The food was superb. I had a crabmeat grilled cheese sandwich and it was DELICIOUS! I also tried the crawfish étouffée, which I kind of wished I had ordered also after a taste of it! Liz was out in the dining room greeting guests with a warm handshake and a big smile. You can tell she really loves her business and her customers. She recognized my friends and their son, and that really impressed me. I wish I lived down here...I'd be in often! Oh, and I loved the go-cup...covered with cute southern Nola sayings. Makes a great souvenir of my lovely visit. Thanks, Liz! :)

We went to Liz's on the morning of the Super Bowl. Bright, colorful inside and out. Four people were waiting ahead of us, which we thought was a decent wait. We were sat quickly enough, but only after the Ravens-jersey-clad gf was asked to dance to our table while carrying a Saints umbrella (as the entire building chanted "Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?" - all the Saints fans we ran into disliked the 49ers bc they had beat the Saints the prior year, and were therefore cheering for the Ravens). Big fun! Immediately, we asked for our drink order. The menu had many good options. I was torn between the chicken and waffles or the shrimp and grits. The waitress didn't even have to think "shrimp and grits." Dad got the Who Dat scramble w the Debris Grits. The gf had a blueberry waffle. The waffle was light and crisp. The Debris Grits, pieces of roast beef w a brown gravy over grits, were the standout on Dad's plate. The shrimp and grits ended up being 15-20 count shrimp over cheesy grits with a fantastic sauce. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. . . Liz stopped in on us a couple times. She is simply lovely - and it's clear the restaurant is a reflection of her personality. Warm, welcoming and fabulous! By the time we left, it was 10:30. There were more people outside waiting to get in than there were inside, eating! Granted, it was Sunday morning at a breakfast joint, but I'm betting they're busy on a regular basis. If you're in the area between breakfast and lunch times, go!

The food was decent but a bit overpriced. The vibe of the place is pretty chill but the staff was a little bit sassy and I felt rushed. The decor is kitschy but charming. The blackberry cheesecake was amaaaaazing and the saving grace of my experience. I'd be willing to give this place another try because there were other items on the menu that looked more appealing than the crabmeat au gratin I had.

Just came from here...love the atmosphere! I was looking for something comparable to Louie's cafe up in Baton Rouge where I go to school and stumbled upon Liz's. So excited! Loved the staff and the art work is so much fun to look at. Hope this place stays around forever

My only complaint about this place is the hours of operation (closing time is 2p.m.), but I understand this because they're a "breakfast" diner, so I won't hold it against Miss Liz. You can't miss the building: a small yellow outfit on Florida Avenue in Mandeville, LA accented with "LIZ'S WHERE Y'AT DINER" in all it's airbrushed glory. The place is small, but that adds to its character (just be ready to share elbow space with your table mates). The atmosphere is, well, let's just say there's a lot of atmosphere on the walls. Some say it's like a 12-year-old girl's bedroom with all the hand-painted artwork on the walls (many with pink accent colors), but I think it adds to the uniqueness of the place. We've been here several times for breakfast/brunch. It does fill in quick (especially on weekends) so take note and make for some extra wait time (our waits have NEVER been longer than 10 minutes). The menu is pretty extensive, but not overly extensive...there's pretty much something for everyone. I always order something with a biscuit on the side because at Liz's, they GRILL their biscuits (on the griddle, not an actual grill, but they're awesome regardless). The servings are pretty generous, so you shouldn't leave hungry (actually, you'd better not leave hungry...if you did, go back inside and order again). EVERY time we've been, Miss Liz is there herself, kind of "working the room" and acting as hostess, server and maitre'd at the same time. She's so full of passion for her place, and that seems to rub off well on the customers. They do take credit cards as well as cash. There isn't a whole lot of parking space, so I recommend carpooling if you're going as a group. The service is great too. The staff is friendly and work quick, so as not to make your visit last too long. Enjoy!

  • Rachel H.

I've been to lunch at Liz's a few times with co-workers and the food was "good". I would say that they had average lunch food at a decent price. It's a small and charming establishment which has a very small town feel to it. However, I took my boyfriend there for the first time for brunch and it was delicious. He really enjoyed the Bananas Foster french toast which is far too sweet for me first thing in the morning. I had a basic scrambled egg plate but I have to mention the grilled biscuit! Grilled biscuits are a wonderful change from a regular biscuit...try one any chance you get! The staff, along with the owner, were very friendly and attentive. You could tell that the place was packed with "regulars".

Drove by on Sunday morning, the line was out the door and around the building. Went back on Monday and there was no wait. I had the Eggs Benedict Sardou. YUMMY! My wife & daughter loved their dishes too. The only negative was their bacon was a little overdone.

This was my first visit, my husband recommended it as somewhere he meets for Saturday business. We arrived early as had dropped someone at the airport. Filled up whilst we were having breakfast, loved that they offer both regular and decaf coffee which suited my husband but best of all we offer hot tea which is the only way I can start my day. This place does not stint on toast serving two slices with the breakfast. Nearly all the painted signs on the walls are for sale so if your looking for a gift this is the place to go.

After seeing the positive reviews, since I was vacationing in the area, I decided to check out Liz's for breakfast. The minute I saw the cops eating breakfast in the restaurant, I started to get a good vibe and I wasn't disappointed. I had the shrimp and grits and an order of the biscuits and debris. The food was awesome! The portions were the right size. This was definitely a top, memorable breakfast. Also, Liz's service was as good as the food. I highly recommend the Where Y'at Diner to anybody eating in the area.

Everything from the Eggs Sardou to the Chocolate Chip Waffles is finger licking good at Liz's! The service is excellent and the food first rate. Call ahead for big parties but for 2 to 6 people just go ahead. Very popular breakfast place but lunch is great too!

Great place we found on Yelp when leaving N.O. on the Causeway. A short wait on a Sunday morning, but the free mimosas and muffins made up for it. The N'Awlins Benedict was special, as were the grilled biscuits and cheese grits. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more attentive, and the owner welcomed us herself. We will definitely return when we are in the area.

Great eggs & grilled biscuits in a very causal, artistic atmosphere. We never wanted for coffee and service was right on time at every stage of the meal. But not a lot of space between the tables.

This restaurant is eclectic and definitely stayed true to who they were. The decor is whimsical to the point where some might say it's gaudy. Just think about old Aunt Eloise living in Florida with her hot pink and greens linen gauchos. That's screams Where Y'At! Don't have an Aunt Eloise? Then envision the old lady (Magda) from the movie There's Something About Mary. Anyways, little signs hand painted (probably by Liz) are hung everywhere throughout the diner with sayings like Love, Happiness, and Life's a Beach. The wait staff wears tie dye t-shirts and cut off blue jean shorts. It's definitely one of a kind. The food has special names such as the Shockey (as in Jeremy Shockey, TE from the New Orleans Saints), the Who Dat (typical N'awlins lingo), and The Cool Brees (as in Drew Brees, QB from the Saints). Breakfast is served all day, too, though we were there for breakfast specifically. Todd got the Shockey, which is three scrambled eggs with hot sausage, tomatoes, onions, and Pepper Jack cheese topped with a Cajun Hollandaise sauce. It comes with either grits or potatoes and a biscuit or toast and being true to the south, Todd chose grits and a biscuit. I felt like something sweet and went with the Banana Fosters waffles. It's waffles topped with bananas sauteed in a butter rum sauce and served with syrup and dollops of whipped cream. Both were really good. The Cajun Hollandaise sauce is excellent! I might even have to try to make my version at home. The waffle was so fluffy and light. My fork just cut right through it like butter. They also make a roast beef gravy that's pretty good. We got this on the side just to taste it. It's homemade roast beef shredded in their brown gravy sauce. This is usually served with biscuits or on a bun. The prices were reasonable, but service was over the top! I think this is what makes Liz's a place that's constantly busy. The people are so warm and inviting, like going to a friends house. We even met Liz, the owner, no more than five minutes after being seated. All the food is cooked in the open, centrally located in the diner. Liz is even back there cooking. Like I said we went for breakfast, but lunch is definitely going to be our next stop. The po'boys, burgers, and sandwiches sound awesome! You can check out the menu at the diner's website here. So all in all, Liz's Where Y'at Diner gets a 5 out of 5 stars!

I came into town from Denver with a dozen students on an Alternative Break trip with Habitat for Humanity. I found Liz's on Yelp and it was simply amazing. Not only was the atmosphere fantastic, and the food amazing, but the staff was friendly, kind, and even brought out samples of grits for my students (many of them had never heard of them before). Liz herself came out and talked with our students during the meal, getting to know them and answering all of their questions about New Orleans. We all had a wonderful time and they talked about that brunch all week. I would certainly recommend Liz's and plan on returning myself the next time I'm in New Orleans.

Best breakfast on the North Shore. Started off with biscuit's and gravy which was by far the best I've ever had. We ordered it as an appetizer split between three of us and we were fighting to see who could clean the bowl. I ordered Liz's Goolosh, which is grits, a biscuit and two eggs, any style mixed up in a bowl with roast beef debris- awesome. There wasn't a scrap of food on anyone's plate when we left. Just a good breakfast destination on the North Shore and can't recommend this place enough. Coffee was outstanding and had three cups before we left and the service was good.
