I used to love the Chinese food here! It was one of the best, well, nobody beat Golden China back in the day. The atmosphere is nice, but the Chinese food is lacking. I ordered a simple plate of vegetable lo mein, and it tasted reheated from some earlier preparation. Not the way to go, guys! Also, it was a smaller portion than usual. This was supposed to be a dinner sized portion, but it seemed more like a kid's meal. I am a 105 pound woman, who is not a big eater, so I just wanted you to know the context of my comment. I used to love the celestial chicken and pepper steak before I was a vegetarian, and they were great! My daughter ordered the sushi, and she was very pleased! So, like I said, go for the sushi and the lovely atmosphere.

This place used to be a Chinese restaurant owned by a Chinese person. They changed to sushi, after all of the other sushi restaurants began opening in Lafayette. I'm not sure which is worse, their version of sushi or their version of Chinese food. Pass!

I enjoyed the Sushi. It was tasty but honestly since I had Dozos, which is directly behind them, nothing compares.

Me and my girlfriend have been going to Shangri La for over 5 years now and it's been great. But the past few months it has been sorely lacking. I gave this restaurant three last tries before I would post a review about this problem. Shangri La is falling apart. From the waiters to the long haired bartender that says inappropriate jokes. Past three times I've been there, the waiter/waitress forgot something. At least one person at the table would not have their food for another 20-30 minutes. Also I got my first refill with my check one of those times. Another time we used a gift card that was for 100 dollars. Our tab was 60 and we did not receive the rest of what was on the card. The card was said we had a year to use all of it but the man at the bar told us that it was a one time use card. Another time the waiter forgot to put in two orders of the baked salmon (which is yummy) and said he didn't see it written but knew to put in two orders without me saying it. Then followed with him telling me their short on staff so he's busy. There were only 4 tables of people eating and three waiters. So many things have been going wrong with this restaurant. It was one of our favorites at one time but I've found can no longer give them business.

Holy Crap. This was awful. Pot Stickers: Burned Fried Rice: Zero flavor, mushy, the pork was way over seasoned with sage I think, and it had corn in it. My wife said her sushi was good, so that's a thing. The worst part of the whole experience was the music. It skipped, like a CD player that someone was kicking it every 10-15 seconds. I told the waiter, he laughed, and the sushi chef (I think) said "I'll sing for you"

Alright. If you guys know anything about me only from reading my reviews, I'm sure it's very apparent that I'm a bit on the feisty side. Now I can say this with no shame because (a) it's very true and (b) I happen to have two sisters who are (if this is even possible) feistier than me. For real. When we go to restaurants together we tend to make the wait staff scared. I mean it's hard to handle three feisty girls. Ya know?! We visited this restaurant for the first time when the two sisters were pregnant (pregnant=more feisty). Our waiter was not only a good sport, he was sweet and humorous as well. In fact, the entire staff went out if their way to make our party feel at home. We also had three toddlers with us that day. We all had the rock-n-roll wraps and crab salads. The food was great...but not as memorable as the service here was. I've been back on several occasions since that first time. You should go, too!

Been coming here since 2006. The food has gotten so bad. It is really bad! The service isn't what it used to be either. Not really impressed with this place anymore. Will be looking for a different place to get sushi.

Pretty good sushi for being Lafayette, Louisiana

We decided to visit for the first time. We arrived at 7:25pm, we were told. It would be a three hour wait on the Hibachi side. We wanted both sushi and hibachi. The sushi side was nearly empty. They would not serve us an order from the hibachi side even with us ordering sushi. Needless to say we left. Went on to our regularly visited spot.

We enjoy visiting Shangri-La both for hibachi and the regular dining. The fried rice is awesome, especially with beef. My husband always gets the sweet and sour, either with chicken or pork. My personal favorites include the crab and cucumber salad (large enough for a meal), vegetable tempura, pepper steak, sizzling beef and shrimp, the "triple crown", and hibachi scallops and shrimp. Service is always with a smile and prompt. One side note: their sushi is decent, but I've had better elsewhere in town.

Do not get bayou sushi roll. It's completely fried and bloated. The staff is extremely slow and in competent. The gyoza was not good at all. This is by far the worst Sushi place.

Thank the Lawd for Shangri-La! When I go back home to Louisiana and my mom's not in town, I literally get sick from all of the rich restaurant food after about 3 days. What else besides Cajun food is there to eat in Lafayette? Good sushi! I know, I was surprised too! I guess the close proximity to the Gulf helps. One of my favorite rolls here is the Acadiana roll -- it consists of cooked crawfish and some crunchy stuff, tempura maybe? The rolls haven't been as awesome the last two times I went but I'm hoping it was a fluke.

Shangri-La has great food, freshly made sushi. Has a great deal on sushi rolls.
