Excellent little sushi place in Lafayette. Calm atmosphere, rest service and absolutely amazing food. The fish is always fresh and soup fantastic.

This is the best sushi place I have been to in lafayette. The rolls are reasonably priced and are quite large comparitavely. I can actually get full without having to order 6 rolls.

Amazing! This sushi restaurant is always amazing. The sushi tastes incredibly fresh all of the time. We love ordering the sashimi sampler, crunchy snowcrab roll, yellow fish roll, tri sigma roll, moon and sun rolls. We have tried so many and love all of them. We keep coming back :)

Service was great! Very attentive and helpful. We had Nancy. The food: we had the baked salmon appetizer. The portion size was small but was baked perfectly. Melted in your mouth. Had the right consistency. Had the salmon hand roll and salmon skin hand roll. They were like other places. The rolls were rolled to big. Overly stuffed. And fell apart as we ate them. I wasn't impressed. Had the escolar and Ama ebi nigiri (sushi). The fish was fresh. The rice was made moist as sushi rice should be but the rice under the fish was rolled into a huge ball. If half the rice was given, it would have been perfect. Overall, the experience was mediocre.

Fabulous food even for this vegetarian! We love supporting family owned restaurants. The service is as good as the food!

The rolls are overpriced for the quality you get. The rolls are also mushy and poorly put together. Don't think I will go back.

Subpar sushi preparation at best. Large rough hunks of fish on huge rice balls. The only good part was the miso soup. Tried it twice and won't be back

Every time my sister and I go, our order consists of: grilled gyoza, salmon sashimi, crab and cucumber salad, and a scooby doo roll. Seriously, the BEST! The sashimi is like butter in your mouth! And the salad is so flavorful! The scooby doo roll is wrapped in salmon, so it too melts in your mouth. I just had all of these and I can't wait to go back :)

Great food great staff local owners. I would recommend this place. One of Lafayette's finest. I travel a lot and this place is the exquisite.

Terrible service. Expensive. Food was definitely not worth it. We told the owner (who was taking care of us) that I was allergic to sesame seeds and she still proceeded to forget. So when I asked for another bowl of rice without the seeds, she said she would take care of it and never brought my correct order. I left the restaurant without a fully correct order. We also asked for no cucumbers in one of the rolls and when the rolls came with cucumbers, the owner told us that we were wrong and basically blamed us. If you come here, leave the thought that "the customer is always right" at the door.

I enjoyed my dining experience here. The service was friendly enough, all of the food was fresh and you could taste the good quality. I would visit again.

I'm from New Orleans and had way better sushi...this place sucked!!!!!! My salmon was cut ugly... 4 small pieces for 10dollars. I wouldn't mind paying 10 dollars but the salmon was small and cut ugly and not smoothe. The rice was hard... And tasted weird, it's overpriced. You can get better sushi elsewhere in laffy probably... Definitely better sushi in Houston and New Orleans and better pricing.

I have been to some nice sushi restaurants/bars from San Francisco to New York, New Orleans to the Virgin Islands.... This place ranks up there and holds their own. I tried the classic spicy tuna, eel roll, and the special, Andy Roll. All rolls were well seasoned and spicy as I expected. I would recommend this for those of you wanting authentic sushi. If you are swayed by the doubters below, your loss, my gain!

Just the best place to each sushi in town, great rolls, friendly atmosphere, nothing loud, nothing crazy. Always fresh, and a great staff!! The Scooby Doo roll is the best!!

Thinks it's nicer than it is. I'm not from Lafayette, so I don't know the history of everything here. I kind of get the feeling that maybe Sakura used to be nicer or more unique than it is now, but never bothered to adapt to competition. The food was expensive, but mediocre, and the service was very slow and uninformed, even on a Tuesday night when they weren't very busy. Being unfamiliar with the restaurant (and dining alone) I asked for chef's choice. I was given (for $37) a plate of nigiri and sashimi that was really unremarkable. Whole meal was $50 with tip (again, for one person) and not nearly worth it. Don't bother, there is better sushi elsewhere in town for better prices and with better service.

This is my favorite place in town to get sushi! I usually get the crunchy snow crab roll which is by far their most popular dish because it's super yummy. To go with it, I bounce between the Scooby Doo, Tiger Eye, Flower, Kimono, Moon, Over the Rainbow, Samurai, Sun, and Yankee rolls. Their miso soup is the best in town in my opinion, and I also like to get the crab and cucumber salad as a starter. Other favorite appetizers include gyoza, shumai/age shumai, and beef tataki. My husband CRAVES the Katsu Don (either chicken or pork), which comes with an awesome dipping sauce. It's a must try when you're not in a raw fish mood. There tempura vegetables and shrimp are both really good too, especially the sweet potatoes. Yum-O! I've always found their service to be good. However it can get pretty crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. The owner is always hanging around and greets customers with a smile. For special dinners, the hidden room is fun. It can get pretty warm though so be warned!

This place is pretty good. The sushi is just as good as Tsunami's downtown, without the overtly loud music. If you want a good sushi restaurant without the pretentiousness of Lafayette's $30,000 millionaires, then this is an establishment that I recommend.

This is were we come to have sushi. My favorite are the spicy tuna roll and spicy tuna cucumber salad which is very good. I also like the crunchy snow crab roll. I also like the sweet potato roll. They have a private room in back for special occasions to rent. A bit pricey but worth it!

This is one of my favorite places to get sushi. They have rolls here you won't anywhere else. My favorite roll of all time lives here, the moon roll. Fresh salmon, crabstick, cucumber snow crab, avocado, masago, cream cheese, wrapped with soy paper. They serve this roll on a plate with lines of spicy mayo and panko, which you then drag the roll through before eating. Brilliant!

My wife and I were looking for a decent sushi place in Lafayette after moving here from California. We decided to give Sakura a try - mostly because it was in a very convenient location, right down the street from our home. We had dinner at a relatively early time, around 6 PM on a weeknight, and there were very few people in the restaurant, making it fairly quiet. This was good, as we brought our 8 month old daughter with us and noisy restaurants tend to upset her. The staff was cordial and the other patrons smiled and said a few nice things to our daughter. It was pleasant enough. The food, though, wasn't very memorable. It was perfectly serviceable, but the rolls we ordered weren't very flavorful. The rainbow roll should really be named the bi-color roll, as there was only salmon and another nondescript fish on it, and as for taste, it has the distinction of being the worst rainbow roll I've ever had. Completely bereft of flavor. The "standard" rolls were tastier and better made than the specialty rolls, and half the price to boot. The biggest disappointment though, was the salmon and the tuna sashimi plates. $10 for each sashimi order, and there were only four small squares of room temperature sashimi for each. I like my sashimi cold, plump, and plentiful - Sakura gave me none of that. The price wound up being around $70 with tip for a dinner for two here, which would be acceptable for a really good sushi joint, but it's overpriced for the borderline average sushi restaurant that is Sakura.

A highly average to meh place to get sushi. Lafayette needs half the sushi restaurants it has and needs all the remaining ones to be twice as good as they are now. Beef teriyaki was raw in the middle, sushi nothing to write home about.

One of my favorite sushi places in all of Lafayette. The Yummy Roll, Acadiana Roll, Quad Roll, Baked Scallop Roll .. Too many delicious choices is a good thing.

Family-owned, exciting environment, great for a dinner night with a group of people. Reserve the back room. Crunchy snow crab is my all-time favorite roll. Make it a point to try the chef's many special rolls. Great service. Fine waitresses.

Sakura is a small, family-owned, neighborhood sushi bar serving specialty rolls made to order. The food is always fresh because the owner is always there to regulate the quality. The waitstaff has not changed and the same people have been there for years. Be prepared for an easy on the wallet, in and out dining - yet, no one pushes you out the door, although they do stop serving 9-ish every night and close Sundays. The place is always very clean and there is table seating and can accomodate a large family seating. There are a couple of TVs. This is our favorite sushi bar and it is consistently great! The new riceless sashimi rolls are delish - but everything served is really very good!
