Only place in Lafayette with Korean food! I usually come here when I'm in town for business and sit at the sushi bar. Sushi chefs are decently skilled and the waitresses are very attentive. Good food, good selection, and a great place for sushi.

So far this place has been hit or miss. I ALWAYS order sashimi first when getting to a sushi place. This way I can take a good look at the quality of the fish. You can't hide the quality fish when it's all alone. It amazes me how sooooo many places use poor quality fish and its so easy to cover it up with rice and toppings. I will say that the service is great !!!!! A+. They are quick on the refills and very helpful if you ask questions. This time I was offered some complimentary fried chicken wings. I was not impressed to say the least. Greasy !! The meat and batter were cooked just fine but tons of grease. This sushi bar has a ton of potential.

My husband and I have been coming here since we started dating almost ten years ago. The ambience is romantic, the sushi is great, and we have never had a bad experience with anything. I guess I could say it's our special place!

Decided to go eat at Osaka because the girlfriend was craving Korean. Korean you ask? Yes, they serve Korean here, in fact the owner is Korean. You just have to ask for the secret Korean Menu!! We felt so bad for the waitress, it looked like she was the only one working on the floor.. but she was really nice and did as much as she can to help serve you - Fried calamari - this was your generic fried calamari, which was pretty decent - Firecracker roll - this was mediocre, I overheard a table saying how great this was.. really it was not that great - Crunchy roll - your generic crunchy roll pretty much - Beef Bibimbob - beef bulgogi on a bed of stir fried veggies served over a bowl of steam rice, topped with a fried egg. Served with a side of sweet and spicy sauce - this came from the Korean menu, and it was delicious! - Garbi - grilled beef short ribs marinated in a blend of Korean spices, served with a small house salad and steam rice - this also came from the Korean menu, the short ribs were perfectly marinated and so delicious! We normally don't come here for sushi, but decided to give some rolls a shot, and it was mediocre, however, this is probably the only place you can get your Korean fix in Lafayette, and its not too shabby!

The food was really good but the service was atrocious. It took almost 2 hours for our lunch. The place was pretty much empty too! It took a while for our server to come greet us and get our drink orders. It took even longer for her to come back with our drinks. The longest wait was for our food! It was unreal how long it took for our food to come out. Osaka's saving grace is their food though. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. They just need to get a new waitstaff or at the very least hire some busboys to fill drinks.

Pho is dankest in the city. If partaking in sushi order the fresh wasabi you won't be dissappionted. On 12-12-12 the pho was crap. Mr. Lee must've not been in the kitchen. I was dishonored. That's why I gave 4 stars only.

This is one of my favorite places in town to get sushi. My coworkers and I come here often for our lunch break. My biggest complaint about them is their inconsistency. Their sushi and other meals are very good, but they are inconsistent and have days that are less than impressive. I went today 4/25/2014 and the food was delicious but it took over an hour to get to us.

Solid sushi. Tiger roll, crunchy California, and Tamago sushi are my favorites. Never too crowded and always delivers quality food. Secret Korean menu has good dishes also. Great deals on rolls for dine in or takeout. Buy 3 get 4th free I think is the deal. Worth checking out.

Their sushi is extremely overpriced for what you get. They decided to stick the word "special" in front of the name of a roll so they could add $7 to the price but there was nothing special about it... It was small, not very tasty and mushy. My yellowtail roll was especially fishy tasting. The spicy tuna wasn't too bad. It was the best of the three rolls. I won't ever go back there because they charge way to much for the amount and quality you get. If you do go, the spicy tuna is a safe bet. Also, this isn't a huge deal but I'll mention it anyway. They have a special on Mondays (and I think other week nights also) for take out where you order 3 rolls and get a 4th completely free. That's a pretty good deal. BUT I didn't know about this deal when I called and ordered on the phone and a hen I ordered three rolls the lady didn't mention the special to me at all. So when I get there I see the sign that says take out special and ask if I can get another roll free. She says no that it's too late. I don't think that's very good business. She should have mentioned it over the phone the first time and if she wanted my business again she would have been ok giving me a 4th roll free. Oh well.

We ordered 5 different sushi rolls and spring rolls. Spring rolls were so bad that we couldn't finish them. Out of the 5 sushi rolls, only one of them was good. We didn't eat the majority of the food. Very disappointing, especially considering how much the food cost. Not sure if the quality was lacking because it was a to-go order. Will not be returning.

This was my first time going here and I was exited about my sushi. I get there with a friend and we're not greated or acknowledged by the manager who saw us walk. About three minutes later two.servers walk up looking confused as if they didn't want to serve us or debating who would. Finally we were sat after five minutes we ordered and I had a hair in my sushi. Definetly will not be returning.

My husband and I came through Lafayette for our anniversary over Labor Day weekend. We were upset to find out most restaurants closed down on Sundays, we were happy that Osaka was one of the handful of places open on Sunday. We are not sushi snobs but we enjoy sushi and as a military family we have eaten sushi throughout the U.S. We were very disappointed with just about everything at Osaka. From the dingy dark decor, to the prices, and finally to the poor quality sushi. The interior is cold, dark with very few windows and very outdated. The banners around the sushi bar are hung by PVC pipe. The price is extremely high for the quality and size of sushi used. The average roll costs around $10-$10.50, which I could see paying at an upscale restaurant with fresh amazing sushi, but not here. The sushi was such a let down. Two out of the four rolls we ordered were cooked fish not the traditional raw fish you expect at a sushi restaurant, and this was not noted on the description. The M-80 roll was absolutely disgusting! It was essentially a tempura style Cali roll with a bunch of sh*** on top. It looks just aweful with some pink "sauce", and tasted just as bad. Overall we were very unhappy and to be spending our anniversary in a dark hole, paying $41.00 for four rolls and having sub par food. We would not recommend.

The food at Osaka is always good. Always decent. Sometimes it's great...others not so much, but still never bad. I'm giving them 2 stars because the service is a joke. You'll be promptly seated and that's where the quick service will end! Every time I've been there the restaurant is not full and the service moves at the speed of a glacier. Unfilled drinks. Sushi takes forever to come. Pho takes awhile too. Ok yeah, everything takes FOREVER!! Get it together, guys. You need to fully and better staff your kitchen. Throw a couple more people back there and some of you just walking around, pick up a tray. Yeah, the sushi is good. Not good enough to compensate for the service. Peace, Love and Tsunami.

I've been eating at Osaka since it opened, and the restaurant has had it's ups and downs in quality levels. This is to be expected, as with staff changes the food quality can also change. I have recently become something of a regular as it is a popular spot for our office lunches. I'd approximate that we eat there once or twice monthly. On my last visit they really impressed me. When our sushi arrived it looked much different than usual. Short thick chunks of fish were placed on top of our rolls, rather than the usual long thin pieces. I brought this up to our waitress, who happily offered to take the sushi back. The sushi returned was quite skillfully sliced, and perhaps the thinnest sushi that I've ever seen. It was awesome. Thank you for the consideration, Osaka. Your courtesy has ensured that I will continue to be a repeat customer.

I am not in the habit of giving a lot of 5 star reviews, but when you have the amazing bento box at Osaka, and it is filled with delicious sushi, sliced beef with mushroom sauce, 3-4 pieces of fried zucchini and onions, a good salad, luscious fried rice, and some steamed veggies, I don't know how I can rate it less than 5.. Plus, this plate of food is HUGE!.. and for $9.95 it will satisfy the biggest chowhounds out there, including me. I can't wait to go back to Osaka so I can make a complete pig out of myself again.. That bento box is calling my name.

Man, it's as simple as this: the gang at Osaka just gets it right. From price to service to location to selections to quirky atmosphere, it is hands-down my favorite sushi restaurant in Lafayette. Others come close, but this place is the perfect storm of what I like when I go out to eat. First of all, I don't eat rice & the sushi chefs are always fine making any roll for me without it, which is this is NOT the case at most sushi restaurants. They are seriously the friendliest sushi chefs I have ever had the pleasure of chatting with at any sushi bar. The prices are great for the quality & portions I get, the service is always quick, the food never takes long to arrive (even when the place is packed) & the menu selection is more than adequate. Also, I love-love-love that this place used to be a Pancho's & that they never bothered updating the Mexican architecture. And the art hanging near the sushi bar is hilarious! Miso Soup comes complimentary at every meal here & the Gyoza, Edamame & Spring Rolls are great. Try the trusted Spider, Cali, Philly, Spicy Crab, ZZyzx, Dr. Keaty, M-80, 911 or Yaki Yaki rolls for a tasty meal. I have enjoyed Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail & Red Snapper Sashimi on more than one occasion. The Jasmine tea is always a nice addition to any dining experience & the the Red Bean Ice Cream is quite a dandy way to round everything out, trust me. I have consistently had great experiences & trust these guys with my lunch/dinner decisions quite often. Sakura's Seaweed Salad may be better, but in the end, it's just worth my overall time to frequent Osaka, where I am never, ever disappointed.

I was hesitant to visit Osaka. It's location has a poor reputation, and it's facade seems a bit lacking. I was surprised to find that Osaka is quite a nice place to be. This dimly lit Japanese restaurant is quite the escape. It offers a place to settle down, a place that seems to hide from the busy city surrounding it's walls. The service was professional and accommodating. The food was excellent, their sushi was fresh and well dressed. I haven't a complaint about this restaurant, and I surely will return for another of their "Veggie Delight" maki rolls.

I ordered the Arizona Special Combo. It came with 4 pieces Nigiri: tuna, salmon, red snapper, albacore and 4 pieces each of spicy tuna roll and california roll. The Nigiri was oooh, sooo delicious! Fish was excellent quality. The rice was perfectly flavored, but a little dry. I did go toward the end of the night though, around 8p. I will definitely be back because I love their menu selections and the quality of fish. I came back a second time (this time right at 5pm when they opened, so rice was fresh and perfect) and ordered the Chef's Choice House Special Combo. I received the following Nigiri: 2 pieces tuna, 2 pieces red snapper, 1 piece escolar, 1 piece yellow tail, 1 piece albacore, 1 piece octopus, 1 piece eel, 1 piece salmon, and 1 mixed roe. I loved everything!
