Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I would venture to say that Marcello's is the best restaurant in Lafayette. It is most certainly the best Italian place. Tonight my husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and they made sure everything was perfect. The staff somehow managed to run like a well oiled machine, and despite every table being full our food came out in a timely manner. We have never had anything less than a 5 star visit to Marcello's. Great ambiance, professional and talented staff, and amazing food. All together we have tried almost everything on the menu and the compassion of the kitchen and freshness of the ingredients show. The mussel appetizer is one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. The food is on the pricier side, but you can taste why. Marcello's is the perfect date or family night out.

I was in town in Lafayette, La and wanted to try the original Marcello's. I frequent the New Orleans, La location often. I did not have as good as of an experience. The bread was hard as a rock. My grilled chicken alfredo was ok. Lots of garlic which I like, but thought it was overpowering. We did get the anna tutto panna desert which was delicious.

A very good Italian meal. Ok, we don't like Frank Sinatra but never mind. They take reservations now. We made one, walked in, table was ready. Service was prompt, food was delicious, priced right.

My wife and I consider this to be the absolute best, hands down greatest, most delicious Italian food experience we have ever had.. This genre of food is my favorite and I have eaten in some of the nicest, most expensive, highest rated Italian specialty restaurants from California to Lousiana, and over seas.. This place is # 1.. We have had a variety of dishes, pastas, grilled meats, etc.. so get anything you're in the mood for, it will be great! Appetizers, ESPECIALLY the Calamari, will be perfect! Get a bottle of the house Pinot Noir, its smooth and delicious, you don't need to spend more on any other bottle brand. Go here for a date night, go here with friends, go here alone, just go here and thank me later!

One of the few Italian places I eat at in Lafayette. I have had mixed experiences at this place. Generally they have been pleasant, with the food coming out in good time and being tasty. However I have had a couple of occasions where the food has not been up to standard and had to be returned. They do offer a good selection of wines and the waitstaff are generally friendly. Unfortunately for its price you would expect a bit more constancy from their kitchen, as such we tend to visit this place on the rare occasion when we do feel like Italian. My favourite is the lasagna although they do have a good selection on the menu. The atmosphere is a bit more sophisticated then Olive Garden and good for an intimate meal. However be warned that although the wine may impress, the food could well disappoint depending on how the kitchen is feeling that night!

I have seen this place a number of times, but tried it for the first time last night. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. We went for a family birthday and they warmly accommodated our table of 9. As a side note, we were charged an 18% gratuaity due to the size of our party, which I gladly paid, as the service was great. We had a few appetizers. Honestly, I couldn't tell you what any of it was, since it was all fried. Wasn't extremely impressed, but it was not bad. Only one of us had a drink other than water. Their wine selection, as you would expect, is unbelievable. You have the option to buy any bottle of wine and have them open it for a $10 corking fee on top of the bottle price. My wife and I shared a Caprese salad which was absolutely phenomenal and was plenty to share. The olives were exceptional. My wife and I also shared an entree. We had the bolognese which was great as well. I will not that they did split our salad and entree on two plates to accommodate our sharing. The rest of the table got dessert. We sampled each of them and all were especially exceptional. Not sure what it was, but there was a caramel dessert that would make a trip to this place worthwhile alone. When we received our checks, we were surprised that we were charged a total of 4 dollars to plate our food separately. Not a huge deal, but was just a surprise. I will definitely go back to Marcello's to try more things. Excellent food, great service, and the wine selection you would expect from the Marcello's name.

I visited Marcello's with my co-workers today for lunch. The meat balls are simply delicious and authentic the Italian way. We had salads, Panini's, Fish and Pasta, which all was cooked perfectly. The service and the food are 5 stars. Great place!

Great experience. Food and service were excellenté. That's Spanish, not Italian. They do not take reservations for less than 8 people. Be prepared to wait on a weekend night. Calamari & Bresaola appetizers were good, Veal Palerma (?) was absolutely delicious. It's a wine "cellar" so obviously the wine selection is frickin fabulous 'n everything. This is a great place to go if you are feeling like eating good food, drinking good wine and acting like you're a really important person in this city.

not impressed at all... They have a pretty good wine list, but no Stemware!! They have those stemless wine glasses which I hate so much!!... The waitress was probably having a pretty crappy day, but all our pasta orders came out wrong... She attempted to impress us with her memory skills except that she got every single type of noodle wrong. After about 20 mins of ordering, and a couple of drinks, she came back out and let us know that one of the dishes we had ordered was no longer available... That's a long time just to realize your kitchen is no longer serving a dish!! Over all the food is not bad, definitely didn't impress me, but I'll give it another try since I had eaten there before and overall is not bad. Though I must say, It won't be any time soon.

I am not impressed at all. At first the building looks welcoming, with a bar and outside patio. Though seems a little contrived, similar to the faux Italian like Carrabbas. The wine list seemed alright (though I am far from a wine enthusiast), a crap beer list, and the cocktails are bad. The Old Fashion was just artificial syrup and Bourbon, and was just poorly made. The food seemed pretty sub standard. Pasta did not taste homemade, and the sauce seemed like watery store bought Ragu. I think this place should be a lot better. I nice shiny package, but no substance IMO.

So good. If you're trying decide between Marcello's and Ruffino's, pick Marcello's. Great atmosphere too. Our waitress, Alia was awesome and helpful with navigating the menu. We loved everything we ordered.

Marcello's is one of our favorite restaurants, certainly our favorite Italian restaurant in Lafayette. Tonight we waited 20 minutes for a table, not unusual for a Friday night. 90 minutes after being seated, shortly before they closed, we finally were served our entrees. We got one simple 'sorry, we had a large group tonight'. Their food is delicious, but this service is totally unacceptable.
(2)Julia S.
When I think of cafe, I think of a casual place. Well, I was mistaken with Marcello's. Came in my shorts and flip flops and felt very under dressed! This place is definitely more restaurant than cafe. I was looking for a quick meal so all I ordered was the shrimp pepate and a side of spinach. The pasta dish was decent, a lot of garlic (I love garlic) but it was roasted garlic so it didn't leave such a bad garlicky breath afterwards. Didn't try any of the wines but it seems like they have quite a selection. We were seated next to a wine rack and I noticed a few bottles priced over $150. Wow, glad I didn't accidentally knock anything off.

After several trips to Italy, my husband and I are constantly on the hunt for a good Italian restaurant here at home. We were not disappointed in Marcello's Wine Market Cafe. While the food is not quite authentic, it is definitely a good attempt and quite delicious in it's own right! We started the meal by choosing a bottle of pinot grigio from the rack. They have a huge selection of wines, and our waitress was very knowledgeable about the selection. Even with the $10 corkage fee, our wine still averaged out to $7 per glass, which is what you would pay anywhere else. Our server was also very prompt, friendly, and always available throughout the meal. The manager also came by our table at one point to check on us. Service gets a gold star from me! My husband loves to get bresaola when we visit Italy, and after having some horrible imitations at other places in town, we were a bit leery about Marcello's version. To our surprise, it was almost perfect. The only thing that would make it truly Italian would be if they added a little arugula. Otherwise, it was fantastico! Bread is available by request only because they put it in the oven per order. Trust me when I say ORDER IT. It's slathered in garlic butter and so yummy! For the main course, my husband had chicken marsala which was juicy and tasty. He said it wasn't as good as mine, but he might just have been sucking up. Ha ha! I had the lamb ragu, and - oh my goodness - it was divine! The lamb chops were cooked perfectly mid-rare and the chunks mixed with the marinara were so damn good. I almost cleaned my plate but managed to restrain myself in a feeble attempt to save my waistline. We were too full for dessert, so no comments there. I feel confident though that we will definitely be heading back to Marcello's in the future. There are many other yummy-sounding menu items that I would like to try!

Easily the best Italian and one of the best overall that Lafayette has to offer. The red sauce is real good and has a subtle sweetness that makes you want more. But it's the caramel custard dessert that brings us back. Some think the corkage is high, but it sure beats paying the typical restaurant wine mark up. Service is attentive and unobtrusive.

Holy oil! Eaten here for lunch twice now and gotten the same thing, Shrimp Pepate. While it's quite tasty, make sure you don't have to makeout with anyone or hold a conversation with anyone for about a week afterwards. There is SO much garlic, which I love, but could be overwhelming for some. Should zombies and vampires take over, hide out with some Shrimp Pepate and you're golden. The other issue is the amount of oil. I think my mouth started prune. I haven't looked at the market portion of the restaurant, but upon quick glance they seem to have a good selection.

We made a reservation for Marcello's to go on Valentine's Day. I had never been before, and I was very excited to try it out! Being in the fine dining service industry, I knew they were going to be very busy on the holiday so I made the reservation for 8:15. We arrived right on time, and was immediately impressed with ease of parking and outward appearance. Inside is very romantic, and I love that the wine "cellar" is in the dining room. Only a five minute wait for a table, and by then, I had already chosen one of my favorite, fun wines: Molly Dooker's The Boxer Shiraz. We followed the hostess to a small table off in a corner in, what I believe, is their Godfather room. I didn't like that we were right by the kitchen doors, but hey, it's Valentines Day, I understand. There was a large party of maybe 12-14 people in there who was taking up our waitress's attention the whole time. Once again, I've waited tables in a place very similar so I had to give the poor girl a break. But simple things like water service from the beginning suffered. She chilled our wine and then proceeded to decant it, when I told her that with The Boxer, you actually shake it. I gladly walked her through the process of serving this particular bottle of wine. We ordered a couple of their house cocktails while we let the wine open up a bit, and although it took twenty minutes to receive them, they were well worth the wait... Wish I could remember the names. We got the sea scallops as an appetizer which were decent. They were cooked perfectly and the presentation was pretty. They came with balsamic marinated cherry tomatoes which were good but lacked imagination! Finally, after being there for an hour and a half, we ordered a salad and our entrees: the caesar, seared veal medallions with a morel mushroom and Parmesan risotto, as well as the grouper topped with tomatoes, artichokes, and capers which was served with angel hair and lemon butter. They were out of grouper, and changed the fish to flounder. A minor disappointment but no biggie. They brought the fish with the salad which I thought was weird, and he was done with his flounder by the time I got my veal. The veal was a bit overcooked and risotto had nice flavor but wasn't creamy at all. The courses and timing were a little messed up, and I didn't appreciate that on a special night like Valentines. For dessert, we ordered the bread pudding which they were out of :(( so we got the lemon torte instead. It was tart, which I liked, but had more crust than actual lemon curd. Again, a little disappointing. Despite all of the setbacks, our waitress was really sweet (when we saw her) and didn't rush us (partly because she was in the weeds and partly because she could tell that our main focus was enjoying each others company. We still had a really nice time and will be back. I think this place deserves another chance.

I stopped by one night looking for a good Pinot noir. I was greeted by Marcello and he directed me to an exquisite import. This is the place for imported wines.

Best restaurant in Lafayette. Gino and Giorgio are fantastic hosts, and Kelly the hostess is a true southern beauty. Spaghetti Bolognese with a meatball, pesce limone, veal Marsala....you can't go wrong. Tell them Atlanta sent you.
(5)Monica C.
Wonderful food! The service was excellent..........and the wine was remarkable! This may be our regular date night location. Reservation is a MUST here!

Pains me to write this, because I've been eating there for years and generally always had excellent food and service. That being said, whoever the manager is with the Win Butler haircut was on Christmas Eve, here's his one star.

I really need to eat here more often. I have never, ever had anything here that has been short of divine. I got spaghetti & meatballs, which is not something I would normally order...ever...anywhere. But I had an envie and, oh my heavens, did Marcello's deliver. Perfectly cooked pasta, a sauce with lots of zip, and the meatballs! Oh, the meatballs! Moist without being mushy and spiced just right. I'm not a meatball aficionado by any stretch, but I know I could eat those every day. Desserts were equally wonderful. Tiramisu was soooo delicious, but I love the caramel pudding with almonds and amaretto whipped cream (it has a much famcier name, but I can never remember it).And shout out to Lindsey, our server, for fantastic wine pairings and exemplary service. Ask for her. Seriously. All in all, A++++ for Marcello's!!!

the concept and food are good, but service is painfully lacking. Waited at the table for an excruciatingly long time before someone took pity on us and poured water. No explanation or apology for the delay in service when our server finally arrived, although, whenever the server came by, she was pleasant enough. The pasta dishes were quite good. The concept with the wine is nice (pay $10 over what the label reads to drink at the table), if only it didn't take 15 minutes for someone to arrive and open your wine after you're seated. Will give this place another chance but the service issues badly need to be worked on.

Had my birthday lunch today here, and the food was just as good as it always is. I had the WOP salad, and it was the right combination of flavors. I recommend it if you want somethung on the lighter side. The waiter didn't know how to pronounce a few of the dishes, but he was polite and attentive. An excellent place to celebeare with family.

Get the mac n cheese appetizer, and cannoli for dessert. Superb!
(5)Luke L.
Everything about this place is incredible. The wine is sold at market price, which means that if you pick out a $50 bottle of wine, you pay $50 for it. Not $12 a glass. The food is the best in town and the portions are perfect. The last time I was there, I had lightly fried eggplant as an appetizer. The eggplant was very lightly breaded and very light on the palate. The main course was veal, which was cooked with large chunks of garlic and sat on top of capers and pasta. Very flavorful and again, very light. Dessert was a cannoli filled with cream and topped with chocolate. The flavor was neither too sweet nor overbearing, and complimented the meal wonderfully. I can't recommend this place enough to the locals. It's absolutely delicious and relatively inexpensive depending on your choice of wine.
(5)Rachel P.
So far my absolute favorite restaurant while I have been up in Lafayette! I like that you can walk around and pick out your bottle of wine and bring it to the table for your dinner. I got the veal on my last trip and it was to die for! Melt in your mouth good. The mussel appetizer is excellent as well. Heading back again tonight if that gives you any inclination as to the delicious food they have!
(5)Jill W.
Best Italian food in Lafayette and a great wine selection. The corking fee is a bit steep, but the food, service, and ambience make it worth the price.

My fiance had been wanting to go to Marcello's for a while, because he heard it was the best Italian food in Lafayette. The reviews I read and the fact the place was packed on a Wednesday all seemed to point to this being true. It's a nice atmosphere. If I hadn't read online to ask for bread, I would have just thought that our waiter - a nice enough guy who lingered a little too long and reeked of BO - just didn't like us. But, I knew you had to ask, so we did and no feelings were hurt. Just my nose's. We had the Mozzarella Impanata which we agreed was the best fried mozzarella either of us had ever had. I ordered chicken parm and he ordered the veal. We both agreed the pasta that came on the side was pretty good. That's where the good vibes stopped. While I did get a large portion of chicken, it really didn't matter as it didn't want it. It was all nice and toasty. VERY toasty. When I mentioned this to my fiance, he said his veal parm was burnt too and that he couldn't even taste the veal which was disappointing. All he could taste were bread crumbs. Sadness :(

We had dinner at Marcellos to celebrate my Birthday on a Friday night. The dilemma with Marcellos is what wine to pick! So many awesome choices! Fortunately our waitress suggested a wine that they just started carrying and we decided to try that one. It was an excellent choice! For starters we had we had the antipasti board. It was delicious! The olives, eggplant, and roasted garlic were my favorites while the cheeses and salamis came in a close second. I had the eggplant parmigiana and my date had the lamb ragu. Both dishes were well done. You could actually taste the eggplant; the breading, sauce and cheese were the right amount. As for the lamb, it was cooked to a perfect medium rare and had a great flavor. For dessert we each had the anna tutti. I love this stuff and it was just as good tonight as it was every other time that I have had it! What a great way to bring in another year!
