Visited on 11/14/11 - Papas Rellenas - stuffed potato ball with beef. Vaca Frita with Moros y cristianos, Maduritos and Tres Leches . The vaca frita was good, but still not as good as what I've had in Florida @ La Perla.

I personally like it. The food is great and you can have mojitos out on the patio. That being said I personally recommend it especially as a place to day drink on the patio during a pretty day, eat and visit with friends if you ever get the chance.

Cute place, great music. Mariquitas seemed like they were plaintain chips out of a bag, not the long thin ones I'm used to in Miami. The arroz con pollo and grilled tilapia were very good. The palomilla not so much.

Been wanting to try this ever since I saw the dish "ropa vieja" on one of those travel/eating shows and tried it at home. Slow cooked beef with plenty flavors mixed in, just like Cajun, but very different in taste from what I'm used to. We stopped for lunch. I had the Ropa Vieja dinner, with "moros y cristianos", and the "tostones". Wife had the Cuban Classic dinner, featuring the "Lechon Asado", "yucca con mojos", and a Cuban tamale. ALL of it was good, and the waitress, who is a daughter of the owners, was very helpful and professional. She is also very beautiful, should be a model. The place is painted in bright colors and very clean and sharp looking, yet Cuban quaint, telling me that the proprietor is proud of his work. I usually find something not to like when I try a new cultural cuisine, which is why we ordered as much of a variety as we could, but this time I'm stumped. It was all excellent. Not hard on the wallet either. Will be back for dinner sometime, maybe try out the Cuba Libre or Mojitos.

I don't live in Lafayette, but when visiting I have a short list of must-go places to eat. This is one of them. I've not had a bad dish here. The Habana Mix Plate is my go-to, since it has a nice assortment of classics. I'm a huge fan of the tamales. They have officially ruined me for standard tex-mex/Mexican style tamales. The lechon asado (roast pork) is delicious. Cuba does pork right! Plantains in all their incarnations are a treat. I've tried to recreate their maduritos at home, but haven't been able to recreate them. I snapped a few pictures, so be sure to check them out. Those pictures will say more than my words can! DELICIOUS and crave-able.

This is the one place I never skip eating when I'm in Lafayette on business. I always stay at the Hilton right next door and never miss the trip across the street. The Vaca Frita may be my favorite dish ever!! I even tried making it at home (not as successfully as they do). I always get the christianos on the side, which are great, along with the plantains. I cannot describe how great Vaca Frita is. Kim L's description is pretty good. It's even better if you drench it in the garlicy green hot sauce. The mojitos are good and 2-4-1 during the week. Can't beat that. I always go during the week. It's unfortunate I'm always the only person in their, but that means the food is always quick and the service good. This place is a hidden gem in Lafayette.

I can not believe this place doesn't have any reviews yet. Excellent and simple Cuban menu, very delicious. If you like mojitos, this is only place in town I recommend getting them (just my personal preference). I didn't like mojitos until I was convinced to try the ones here. Now, they are one of my favorite drinks. Favorite sandwich? The Cubano, can't go wrong.

Cuban sandwich was awesome,it was the right kind of bread and toasted to perfection, for the money it was very tastee and portions were more than expected, would have gave a 5 star but my black beans and soup were a little on the warm side, like it steamin!

This was a lark. We were on our way to Baton Rouge for a covert and decided to get off of the highway to eat. This place came up on yelp so we thought we'd give it a try. The food was excellent. The tamale tasty with a good ratio of meat to masa. The mojotos were awesome. This is defiantly a must stop again.

On a road trip with some friends and decided to give this place a try, this what we thought: Pros: I had the Cuban Sandwich which was killer! I felt like Adam Richman in Man vs Food when I was powering through the amazingness that was the sandwich. The Mojito was recommended by you sally bastards so we tried it. And it was D-O-P-E. Pretty sure after one I was feeling pretty much like flipping over some tables. Also make sure and use copious amounts of that green sauce they have on the tables because it takes anything on your plate from great, to awwww HELLL YEAHHH!!! Cons: I kept getting distracted by the amazing rack on our server(who was also on the sign outside) and this made it hard to give her my order properly.

Food was delicious and the staff was friendly but we waited quite some time for our food to come out. However, it was very reasonably priced and authentic.

Went to dinner here a few months ago for the first time and haven't been back. Our ticket came with a 15% gratuity added for a party of 3. Not being aware of this automatic gratuity, I added another 20% on top of that, which is what I tip for average service. The next day I saw the 15% gratuity on my receipt and was not happy about it because there wasn't a disclaimer in the menu or anywhere in the restaurant that I had seen. I called the restaurant asking them if their menu stated this automatic gratuity and the person who answered said, No. I asked for my tip back and she said it couldn't be refunded. She said there is an automatic 15% gratuity added to every table regardless of the number of customers at the table. I will never go back. The food or service wasn't good enough to really care.

I came here looking for something different and good.. I just ate some of the best food I've had recently!! We had the Havana sample 1 to start, perfect! For our main dishes we had Ropa Vieja and Cuban classic. Both were absolutely fantastic!! Service was great! We'll be back as soon as possible.

I'm not going to be shedding any new light on Cafe Habana City, and you can see from the numerous other positive reviews that this place is awesome. I would recommend the fried skirt steak, it was delicious. The mojitos are great, as well.

LATINOS FROM ALL CORNERS, UNITE TO ME Mr. R and his amazing staff, food, ambiance and soul! You arrive a guest and leave family! They have a unique an unorthodox approach to a cuban sandwich (they add an egg and use american cheese instead of swiss), and the bread gives you that crunchy thump when tapped. If you are a cuban sandwich purist you will not be really impressed, but if you are open minded and eat it like a french dip, soaking in that wonderful mojo - you WILL go gaga! But, what makes there food ROCK is the home made-ness of that INCREDIBLE RICE AND BEANS, and every meat dish (we had the lechon and the ropa vieja!!). At the helm of the kitchen, 3 rock n roll mamas from Cuba rule the roost: Josefa, Mercedes and Carida, hand grate every root vegetable, chop up every sofrito ingredient and hand make every item on the menu - to order. The food is outstanding, the price super reasonable, the portions are large, and the freshness is what you would find eating at your mama's, grandma's or tia (assuming you are latino or your best friend takes you home for dinner - and I'm not talking Rappers Delight momma, I'm talking, they rock the kitchen man!). Cubanos, Puertorros, Mexicanos, Guatemalas, Argentenians, Brazileiros... all UNITE! From New Orleans, through Baton Rouge, to Lafayette - if you need a true FIX - tostones, maduros, OMG THOSE FRIED YUCCA AND THE MOJO!!! RIce and frijoles (and you dont feel like cooking...), FLY over to Cafe Habana City. And give the owner a heartfelt HUG! PS - friday nite dance your butt off!

I confess I've only had a couple of Cuban sandwiches here, but they were very, very good and I plan on returning for other items on their menu. The only disappointment for me was the strength of their mojitos. They have a great deal going on right now with a 2 for 1 special, but they are very weak and taste like they are from a mix and not made from scratch. Maybe this is just how the 2 for 1 mojitos are, but frankly, I'd rather pay full price and get a real mojito.

Delicious and authentic. I was just in the area for a quick business trip and was pleasantly surprised by the food. The hot sauce is great. I would have bought some if it was small enough to carry on the flight.

I grew up in Miami, Florida and have been eating Cuban food since the womb. Cafe Habana City is just like eating back home. The food is always delicious and authentic. Favorites of my family are lechon asada (pork that has been roasted and then re-fried with lots of garlic), the fish empanizado (fish marinated in lime and garlic and then breaded) and ropa viejo (a shredded beef dish with tomatoes and yucca). The aroz con pollo is awesome as well. Really you can't go wrong; we've tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. Plus, 2 for 1 mojitos?! Who can be mad about that? The only complaint I have is the new (not so new now) location, because the old one was right across the street from my neighborhood!

Love this place! The mojitos are definitely the best in town. The owners are very down-to-earth and serve excellent food. I'm pretty much addicted to the vaca frita which is shredded beef marinated in garlic and olive oil. It's tangy and salty, and just delicious. The meat reminds me a bit of beef jerky, but not as chewy. A must-try! The plantain chips are great. Be sure to use the green hot sauce, which is now kept in bottles on the tables (before you had to request it). The Cuban sandwich is also killer. The bread is toasted perfectly with the meat and cheese, mustard and pickles to boot! Yum!!

I went to high school in Key West back in the 60's (yeah, I'm old!) and have tried to find good Cuban food ever since. Even went back there for reunions, hoping to find that flavor again. Didn't happen. Then, this week while traveling through Lafayette and searching Yelp for a good lunch spot, we happened upon Cafe Habana City. This food is the real deal! I had black beans, yellow rice, and picadillo. Large portions, well-seasoned, authentic, and flavorful. It was so good, I ordered the same dishes to go, and enjoyed the meal all over again the next night! This restaurant will make driving through Louisiana on their horrible interstates bearable again.

Great food, nice people. I prefer getting Cafe Habana as take-out because it travels well and is still tasty even after the 20 minutes or so it takes to get home and get ready to eat. The food is generally consistent, but I only give it four stars because sometimes the maduritos (sweet, soft plantains) are excellent and sometimes they are a bit overcooked. Recommendation: Ask for the green sauce with any pork dish.

Also not shedding any new light on this place, they serve great Cuban food! This is a regular haunt for my partner and I and we love it! Our favorites are the Ropa Vieja & Cuban Classic with extra boiled yucca & maduritos! Be warned though that the service can be quite slow here! As long as you're willing to accept that you won't be disappointed by the food! If things moved a bit faster I'd definitely be giving this place 5 stars!

Service was really slow and the food was terribly bland for being authentically cuban. Not impressed but I will definitely give them another shoot as i really want them to be good.

You know I really want to like Café Habana. It's a nice place, the mojitos are good, the plantain chips are decent, but after eating here four times in the last six months, I have yet to have a really good meal here. Here is a list of most of the dishes I've eaten there: - Cuban sandwich - really not very good, and small. Have had much better. - Arroz con pollo - it was all right. not really good, but not bad. Nothing distinguishing about it. - Bistec - pretty weak. Thin, overcooked piece of meat with some kind of sace on it. - Ropa Vieja - this was all right, nothing special. - Cuban black beans/rice - this is the star of Café Habana. The black beans are really delicious, and this dish is only like $4. Bottom line, this place is a nice date place and is maybe worth it for the mojitos and Cuban black beans but if I want good Spanish food, I will go to La Pagua or Aztecas.

The food is great, and the Mojitos are AWE-SOME!!!.... But!!! Be warned!! If you have an hour lunch... Don't think about it!!! You'll make it back to work for closing time. Go for happy hour, or casual dinner... And if available try the seafood soup!!!...

Cafe Habana has some pretty good and interesting food. It's not the best, but I eat it because it's close to work. The service is sometimes slow and don't always refill your drink, but it's a good place to go if you want to try something new. It's okay.

Today was my second time going to Cafe Habana City. I wasn't impressed with the food the first time but my lovely girlfriend convinced me to give it another try. She had never been and had been wanting to give it a try. We walked in and were greeted right away. We were told to sit wherever we wanted. We sat at a table and waited for someone to bring us menus. We waited, and waited, and waited. Another couple sat down two tables away from us and were brought menus within 30 seconds of sitting down. With that, we left. Cafe Habana City received two chances from me. They failed the first test with food and failed the second test with service. I will not go back.

I'm a South Floridian stuck in San Antonio where there is NO real cuban food (closest vaca frita is hours away). This place is fantastic. The vaca frita, white rice, and sweet plaintains were perfect. The other food was pretty good as well. We will stop there again when driving I-10!

We were traveling & drove about three miles off I-10 looking for a good dinner. This place did not disappoint! We walked in at 8 minutes before closing & they very cordially told us to come on in, that they would be happy to serve us. The entire staff was warm & welcoming & went out of their way to provide excellent service. Then there was the food. Between 4 of us, we enjoyed a variety of foods & shared with each other. Each dish was both pretty & very tasty. The dishes are quite large & many people will need a carry out box. In short... Drive a couple of extra miles & dine here if you are looking for excellence in food & service!

Did not know about this place until I just drove around and decided to eat here, this place is pretty darn good. However, the service kind of sucks.. our waiter took awhile to take our orders.. I also noticed that a table was not even waited on at all, I'm assuming they didn't see them.. We had the following: - Chicken noodle soup - the soup comes with the meals, it doesn't look like your normal american chicken noodle soup, the broth is red.. but no worries, it is not spicy at all, kind of bland, and some what tastes like Campbell's - Bistec de puerco - grilled think pork steak marinated in citrus sauce topped with onions with arroz amarillo (yellow rice) & Pure de papa (mashed potatoes with butter) - this dish is pretty good, packed with the perfect flavors, and the rice and potatoes goes so well with this, it was so, so good! - Vaca frita - grilled shredded beef marinated in citrus sauce and garlic with papa fritas (french fries) & Arroz y frijoies (red beans) - this was somewhat dry, the beans are also mediocre.. I would definitely come back for the bistec de puerco!

It has had good ratings but I noticed that most of the ratings were not new. So, we tried it, and liked it. Food was very good and interesting. We hadn't been there before so we had two different combination plates. Both were good, the one with the shredded pork was better. My wife said the regular house mojito was lame. Just a little understaffed for the crowd but the service was pretty good anyway. It's a café, tables were clean and neat. Decor a little funky. We'll go back. After Cuban food what's next? Going to light up a cigar.
