Alex R and JO need to stick to places like chi chis and chevy's because clearly they don't like authentic Mexican. This is not tex mex, or Taco Bell it's authentic Mexican. If you are looking for fresh, quality food this is the place. Tacos El Gordo is a cafe style place that serves fresh breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a very casual atmosphere. You can't go wrong here.

I stopped by for lunch one day and I tried the carne asada and al pastor tacos... Both were pretty bad. I could tell the meat was not freshly prepared, the carne asada was black in color (gross!) Their guacamole looks and tastes like it came straight out of a bag. I now see why I was the only person in there during a time that should have been a lunch rush...

Very clean, friendly, and with very good food. Hopefully they will do better that the previous places to use this building. I had the Eggs El Gordo, which pretty much are Huevos Rancheros. Two eggs on fried tortillas with Ranchero sauce (which was actually kinda spicy), and sides of refried beans and fried tortillas soaked in a mild hot sauce and topped with cheese. I can't recall the name of the second side dish. Chilli-something-or-another. There was also a bunch of piping hot small flour tortillas to round things out. I'll be by again soon to check out their lunch/supper offerings. Me, I'm pretty thrilled as it is to find a Mexican place open for breakfast. If you're in a hurry, they do have a drive thru.

I stumbled upon this place almost by accident(as most of my discoveries) and was pleasantly surprised by the genuine Mexican breakfast. The tortillas were hand made and when I asked for an extra side of carne asada they gladly added and it was worth the extra charge! Owners are very friendly and you won't regret eating here at all!

I finally found a delicious Mexican food restaurant in the New Orleans area! I'm from SoCal and recently moved from PHX so I'm always craving Mexican food. Big portions that are reasonably priced. My boyfriend had the super burrito which made chipotle burritos look small. I had the super nachos and couldn't finish! So good! The authentic guacamole was perfect and the charro beans were great. Had the Jamaica agua fresca to wash it down. The best cheat meal ever! Can't wait to go back and try the other menu items. Great service from the owner and they also have a drive thru!

I absolutely love this place! The guacamole is my favorite thing on the menu, a must-have every time I go. The waiters here are always extremely friendly and the service is great. I come here about once a week and each time the food is awesome. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a more authentic Mexican food experience. The prices are very reasonable too! :)

Let me start off by saying... This place is very clean and the service was good. The best way to describe my dining experience here can be said as 'a Mexican version of me stepping into a Denny's and ordering a club sandwich'. Good but forgettable. I got a couple of different tacos to sample them, plus a simple cheese quesadilla. The tacos were nicely plated.(as you can see in the picture) The problem that 99.9999% of these "authentic mexican" places is that they keep using bag tortillas from the grocery store. I didn't even take a picture of the quesadilla because it was a flour tortilla out of bag with mozzarella in the middle.($5). Originally, I had mistakenly thought that they had overcharged me an extra taco, but what I didn't notice was that they charged $2.50 for a soda. So 5 tacos, a quesadilla and a drink was over $22 for lunch.(plus tip) --these tacos are small, usually when they are this small, they come 4 tacos in an order. Here the are sold individually for $2.50 each. I feel bad for giving this place a low rating because they were really nice. The server and cook were very nice; except that the server who waited on me left, the cook ended bringing me my check. In reality, I doubt that they'll renew their lease. For some reason the location this restaurant is hasn't been able to keep a tenant. Although I think the location is great. Secondly, the competition for Mexican food on Williams Blvd is fierce. If its Mexican I'm craving... This wouldn't be my first choice. Hopefully the management team can up their game. Go try some of the places around you and figure out how you can be better and memorable. ***As a side note, I want readers to know that I was messaged by a "Ryan N.", whom I assume has something to do with this restaurant suggesting me to "delete the review". Excellent take out breakfasts, delicious house-made sauces, fast service. I hope this little restaurant stays around, they seem to be relying on word of mouth advertising. Superior alternative to heartburn fast food like nearby Taco Tico and the Bell.

The best I've had in Louisiana, it's hard to have the real authentic tacos and burritos here in Louisiana and these guys got it right. There food is always fresh and delicious, the natural flavored drinks are off the hook, and man there big burrito has so much flavor! There tacos are the bomb, it's hand made corn tortillas so the flavor is unique. Been there like 7 times and it's still good.

Limited dinner menu, it's either tacos (starting at 2.50 each) nachos, a burrito, or quesadilla's and that's it...unless your there early enough for breakfast. Chips are made fresh but come out in a tiny basket with red and green salsa both with some heat to them. Speaking of baskets that is what most of the food is served in/on unless you get the nachos. Overall the food was just ok, but more fast food(ish) than you'd expect from a sit down with a menu type place but should have expected this when I noticed (after already seated) they have a drive thru window. Service started out strong but after getting our food the waiter never came back...ever...so no drink refills and someone else working in the back had to help us settle our bill. Wish I could say it was busy but it wasn't, the foods not unique, and for the money you can do better.

I couldn't decide where to go and eat and found this place. It is not your American tex mex place. I got an order of nachos as well as two tacos al pastor-- pork tacos. I enjoyed it very much. I also ordered a side of rice and refried beans. Yeah too much food but enjoyed it all and know I will stop by again.

This is a diner-style restaurant, and it is clean and neat, inside and out. The wait staff are helpful, but not particularly friendly, however, it's better than the overly familiar staff one often encounters. Here, you order, and they serve; that's it. I had the SuperNachos (steak), and it was rather impressive. Lots of fried steak chunks, flavorful restaurant nachos, jalapeno slices, sour cream, and cheese sauce. This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city! I'll go there specifically for their Mexican guacamole, which is incredibly fresh and quick. But their tacos, chips, breakfast is all to die for!

Clean and delish. Real Mexican food not Mexican American or TexMex. Charro beans were yummy and I ordered taco al pastor. So good. Added a small piece of pineapple not what I'm used too but gave a great taste to the meat. Topped with a delish green sauce and minced onion and cilantro. Its all served on top of two thin soft corn tortillas. They have dine in or drive thru. Can't wait to taste their other stuff.
