Great boudin, fried chicken, and gumbo.

I live in Jennings. I eat at the boudin king 2-3 times a month for 25 years. Great catfish, gumbo, and boudin. Most of the boudin along I-10 is smoked. The king doesn't smoke his.

LOVE The Boudin Will NOT but from anyone else when in Louisiana. Tony is always nice to me and helps with packing and loading my orders. I always order 100 or more lbs. when I visit from California. I wish u guys would ship. LOVE U any ways! Been coming to Boudin King since I was a baby that's been over 40yrs.

This place is a true Cajun rustic dive. If you are looking for fine dining, keep traveling. However if you are looking for an authentic Cajun experience, then you found it. When you walk in the door, the first thing you will see is a large stuffed alligator in a glass case. The staff has the thick Louisiana Cajun accent which is always fun to listen to. We got several dishes and the food varied from good to slightly better than good. The sausage gumbo picks up the smokey flavor from the sausage. Although i asked for sausage, it included chicken, too. The fried fish was cooked perfectly. The hush puppies were slightly over cooked. The boudin was excellent. I got a half pound of spicy...and it was SPICY. I would return, but would try other places in the area first.

It pays to get off the Interstate. On the way to NOLA, we took the advice of Yelp reviewers and made a side trip to Jennings. The Boudin King restaurant is located in a working class neighborhood and is second generation family-owned. Don't let the humble surroundings fool you. Inside, you'll find photos of the Boudin King himself serving meals at the governor's mansion. You''ll also find a huge stuffed alligator in its own room, but I digress.... We'd never had boudin before and frankly, weren't sure exactly what it was. The woman taking our order (the Boudin Queen, it turned out) was very helpful and provided samples before we ordered. Turns out boudin (at least this version) is very, very good. It was even better crumbled into a bowl of gumbo. Or the red beans and rice. We talked to the King before we left and told him how we found his resturant using Yelp. Obviously, he was interested in learning more. So if you stop by based on any of these reviews, he'd probably love to hear from you.

Best boudin I've ever tasted. Not too much heat, really, but the herbs/spices they use make it the perfect balance of heat and flavor. My best friend, her mom, and grandparents (all native Cajuns) all agreed that it was excellent boudin. Surprisingly holds its form even in watery coolers for several hours and after being microwaved a day later in napkins.

Stopped in randomly while en route to NOLA from Texas after seeing a billboard for Boudin King. This place is a mile or so off the highway. My husband and I had Shrimp PoBoys and Hushpuppies. Both were OUTSTANDING. Everything looked good. Very good prices. Got our food to go and raved the whole way to New Orleans about it!

I remember eating there over 12 years ago while traveling on I 10 & the food was just as bland & tasteless as before. Skip this place unless you must enjoy eating hard white rice with spiceless dull food. Not any place I would recommend for anyone with a desire to eat well seasoned, representative food of the region.

Boudin King is an impeccably clean restaurant getting a little long in the tooth, and the food, though not bad when it comes to Cajun style deep fried fast food, isn't auspicious for the area. The fried chicken is decent, but was clearly cooked at least an hour before I got to the restaurant. Coleslaw was lazily prepared by putting the cabbage through a food processor and making confetti sized pieces with an overly moist mayo/horseradish combo. I noticed that a group of three people next to us threw out a nearly full basket of fried okra. I didn't have any, but between three people, I would have thought that if it was of good quality, they would have eaten more. The boudin was disappointing; most places in southern Louisiana take the shortcut of using boil-in-bag rice that is flavorless and imparts no starch which is important to the texture of good boudin. Also, it is generally long grain, and medium grain rice is best for boudin. Most places also tend to use lean, flavorless cuts of pork in order to make an inoffensive, non-greasy product. You can have a non-greasy piece of boudin that still has a rich flavor, but it's difficult to find that balance. Sadly, Boudin King doesn't bother trying to find the balance and takes the easy way out. An OK place to eat for Cajun style fast food, but this place gets by on its reputation much more so than its quality.

Okay, I have to admit that I didn't know what boudin was until I looked it up on Wikipedia as we were frantically searching for a place to stop and grab a bite to eat. I saw the word "sausage" and was immediately convinced: this is our lunch stop. First of all, the folks that own/operate this place are as kind as can be. They immediately knew we were clueless about the food so they offered a generous portion as a sample. We tried both the mild and spicy boudin and both were exquisite. We ordered some other items like the catfish po' boy, chicken gumbo and fried chicken. Everything tasted great. The food in combination with the unique location made me feel like we were having a fairly authentic experience in Louisiana.

Stopped here on a road trip due to the suggestions of other yelpers. It was immediately noted that outsiders were, um, unwelcome perhaps? (my wife was mean mugged the entire time) Wife had the shrimp po boy and a side of fried okra which was decent. I had the red beans and rice with sausage which I did not care for but my wife said was ok. I also had 5 of the smallest chicken strips I have ever seen. If we pass this way again we will not be back.

Semi-long line at the restaurant. 10 people working in the back To get orders out. however not efficient. Food tasty. shrimp poboy delicious. Would come back! Kind of off the beaten path, but worth the stop if you are just passing through on your way to and from New Orleans or Baton Rouge.

Still my favorite rice-heavy spicy boudin. Not to be missed if you're motoring near Jennings.

Very fresh shrimp Okra excellent, breading delicious glad I ventured out with bobtail from Welsh Staff pleasant

Stopped in for a boudin fix on our way back to New Orleans. We had the spicy boudin, hush puppies and fried okra and were not disappointed! The boudin and hush puppies were great, but okra was just okay. Everything was hot, tasty, and fresh, just like it should be.

Sorry, I might have to demote this place to The Boudin Prince, nothing unique about this place, not even sure how it's classified as cajun/creole in my book. We were coming from San Antonio to do some gambling at Coushatta and based on solid Yelp reviews, we decided to go about 60 miles out of the way to give this place a try, what the hell right? Yelp lead me astray this time. I had no idea what boudin was, kinda like dirty rice in casing, and it was good and a half pound was plenty for two. Chicken and sausage gumbo was bland and a bit thin, but did have plenty of meat. We both had seafood specials, (shrimp and catfish and fries) cup and bowl of gumbo, drinks and boudin for a total of around 40 bucks. If I lived nearer, I would visit this place again for a lunch special, but tourists out there, don't be suckered in like we were, this place is merely serviceable and it really wasn't worth the extra time and effort.

I loved being here and the boudin is really 5 star stuff. I thought the fried fish was just ok. I've had better in Southern LA and the South for that matter. We got the platter and the shrimp and catfish were good. There weren't any oysters and the fries weren't great. I did like the chicken and sausage gumbo. They were good. I wasn't really overwhelmed by anything. I wished there was some mustard for my boudin. I would give them 3 stars if it weren't for the boudin, the awesomeness of the place and the value.

If you want fresh, good boudin this is the place for you. I find that the spicy boudin is the better choice. Besides good boudin the Boudin King offers great gumbo, freshly prepared fried chicken and outstanding fried catfish. If you are passing through Jennings and are hungry, give it a try. You won't be disappointed .

Was in town for a family reunion. Best boudin in LA. Rustic, casual and down to earth place. I also had the shrimp etouffee.

We stopped by while driving through because of the good reviews and we were very disappointed. The facility is filthy and it took half an hour to get our fried catfish and shrimp gumbo. People who ordered after me were getting their food and I had to ask several times when I was going to get my food. One of the worker decided to talk crap about me in front of me, not knowing that I was the one who asked where my order was. When I finally got my food there was no apology so I made a complaint. The manager gave me some kind of sausage thing, which I had no idea what it was stuffed with. The fried catfish was soso and while the potato salad was not the worst I had, it definitely was not good. My husband enjoyed his shrimp gumbo. And I don't recommend that you bring your kid here. The tables were filthy even after wiping it down several times. It was overall a horrible experience.

Pretty good boudin. Gumbo was good as well. I ate here with the family on the way to New Orleans. They are pretty stingy with the crackers and you have to ask for Tabasco. But I would eat here again passing through
(3)Roger C.
Great food. Had the fried chicken and the boudin. Gotta love the stuffed alligator as you walk in. Not to many people when I was there. Food was good and hot. Very nice taste and just the right amount of herbs in the boudin.
(5)Sarah G.
Great boudin! Got a bunch on the way driving from Houston to DC. Ah love it!

Crossing Louisiana I ended up staying the night near Jennings and was hungry, and this place popped up in Yelp, so I drove over. I was instantly impressed with the cool rustic Cajun facade and decor (stuffed alligator!) and the food turned out to be great. I had fried fish and hush puppies. Very fried, but very tasty. The staff is so friendly in an old-timey way that doesn't even seem real, like I needed hot sauce and the lovely cook poured some into a to-go cup for me and was worried that I wouldn't have enough. Lovely. Definitely eat here if you are passing through.

When you call yourself the "Boudin King" and you live in the a place once deemed the "Boudin Capital of the Universe" . . . . . . . well, it better be good. I've been all over Louisiana and have never had boudin as good as "Boudin King". Been eating here since I was about three years old, and I try to stop by every time I am passing through close to lunch time. A lot of places add to much rice, or try to overcompensate with too much meat, which just makes their boudin greasy. Boudin King has the recipe finely tuned and has been making it that way for about 50 years. I heard it through the grapevine that the locals say the taste hasn't been exactly the same since Mr. Ellis Cormier, the owner passed away, but in my opinion, they still got it. They also have a full menu of "Cajun" food like gumbo, seafood, fried anything, po-boys, etc...let me tell you, I just don't give 5 stars away freely. It's a little off the interstate and has never had much of a tourist patronage, but if you stop here, you won't be disappointed. Also worth noting is that they have another location closer to the interstate in nearby Crowley, LA, only this restaurant is called "Cajun Way".
(5)Luke H.
Boudin The Right Way. Try some Hog Head Cheese too. Hard to find, and not much to look at, but this is to Boudin what Tabasco is to hot sauces.
(4)Richard E.
Flew into Jennings Airport, Through Yelp and I phone map, via detours and wrong turns located Boudin King in old barn amid run down neighborhood. But Cajun chicken and boudin are the best. Friendly welcoming staff. Great Place.

This is a spot for individuals looking for a REAL Cajun experience as opposed to the typical, overrated spots in New Orleans. Boudin King makes delectable sausages out of those assorted pig parts and their gumbo, with one of the best roux bases you'll find in Louisiana, is a gift from heaven. They use soft shell crab which looks like they are still swimming in their gumbo. The crawfish out here is exceptional. If you are ever on I-10 in Western Louisiana, this (along with the Boudin Shop in Cecilia, LA and, to a lesser degree, Mulate's in Breaux Bridge) is certainly the spot to eat.
