Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Taqueria Corona is definitely a place where you can have variable experiences. It varies from location to location - I cannot stand the Magazine street location but have had many good meals at this Harahan outpost. Your experience will also completely depend on how well you order - as some dishes are simply not good while others shine. HOWEVER, if you stick to a couple of strong dishes you will enjoy it. Simply put - get the fish taco and the tounge taco. Both are excellent - particularly the delicious fried fish (reminds me of baja). Carne asada if you want some comfort steak. Load the tacos up with the fiery red salsa (you may have to ask for this but its free). Flautas are fine if you are feeling indulgent. Avoid a lot of the other stuff on the menu. Chicken and pork tacos are bland and served with a runny pico that disintegrates your tortilla on contact - meh. Burritos and salads are totally middle of the road.

I've tried this place twice because all of the coworkers rant and rave about the tacos...but I don't really see the hype. The first time I Went I thought I had ordered my tacos wron (I asked for the onions to be on the side and everything was put on the side so my taco was steak and tortilla. I came back with a large group and got three different tacos and it was just ok.

Best authentic dishes!!!! Favorite Friday Night Date Location. This place doesn't have the glitz and glamour of the other place but the food it a million times better and you know it didn't come out of a freezer or a very large pan either. Fresh food, small family run, very nice people, homey feeling. Don't sleep on this place. The food is soooo good!

This place is so good! We had fish tacos, steak tacos, pico de gallo with chips, house margaritas, flan, and their signature dessert. It is so affordable and worth so much more! I just learned about this place, but we will be visiting more frequently now that we know about it. I would recommend to people who are hard core about their Mexican food! So great!

This is absolutely our favorite place for Mexican. Food is fast and mad fresh to order. Best fish tacos I ever had. Mmmm

This is a perfect place for a quick, delicious meal. A simple atmosphere, kid friendly, and fresh food make for a nice lunch or dinner. I highly recommend the flautas, cheese enchilada, and cebollitos, however, everything I tried was really good. Recently, I noticed they are building a Carrettas near by. Ugh. I truly hope people will not overlook T. Corona because the food and service are A LOT better here. I gave 4 stars because it is not the fanciest place, they could step up the decor. That being said, it is refreshing being so very simple. It's definitely my go to place to satisfy a Mexican food craving on the fly!

I'm glad this place has never used it's English translation as it's name. The Taco King would make people think of Taco Bell and Burger King and that's just a really shitty combo. I prefer to think of it as the Taco Mexican beer with lime. (see that was a Corona joke). None of that really matters. The thing that matters is this is my favorite place for a taco. Yes I have gotten loceaux with the taceaux truck, but The Taco King's carne asada taco is unreal good and unreal simple. It's just pieces of steak with the perfect chargrilled flavor with grilled green onions. That's it! They also grill the tortilla which makes a ton of difference. Yes it comes with a side of salsa and sour cream in case you yahoo's want to ruin it. They have other taco's as well, about 10 different kind including charizo and cow tongue! I've had the quesidillas and guacamole too and both are solid. The Magazine Street location has more charm. They even have a thrown in the men's restroom for the Taco King. I usually find myself at this location however for convenience. I usually order to go but sometimesI sit at the bar and drink a cervaza. I always want to reenact that scene in Desperado where Tarantino tells the bar keep his beer taste like piss and the barkeep says cuz we piss in it! But I'm afraid they would and then I wouldn't like it anymore, so I dont. How's that for a run on sentence. Anyway. In conclusion, solid tacos, small place, big flavor.

I ordered the California Burrito, and when I looked inside there was black spoiled guacamole; not fresh guacamole, but old refrigerated black guacamole (garbage). When I cannot trust them to keep their garabage out of their food to cut food costs, I cannot trust them to prepare my food...period. Never again.

Woo... This place is GOOD! Let me quantify that statement... I Spend alot of time in Latin America (All Regions), I was here with a Cuban Woman...This was authentic, delicious Latin food. As it is served (actually better) in Latin America... Salsa's were done right...taco's and Beans and every dish we had was great. Really...If you are used to chain Mexican / Latin (ie Cuco's and the like) style places you just won't get it... This place is authentic and real. And soo GOOD! Staff is excellent...service is fast and courteous... For a good meal at a good price...come here. They also have Killer Drinks if that is what you are searching for...

This is our go-to restaurant in our neighborhood. Period. We go there when we need a quick bite, and when we have out-of-town guests to have a leisurely meal. The food is always great, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is upbeat and homey. Don't miss the fish taco! It's my absolute favorite. My typical order is one of these, an order of rice and beans, and a house margarita. And, after years of eating there, I just tried the flan. WOW! It's so tasty; fresh, creamy and vanilla-y, with the most fabulous caramel sauce. I highly recommend it!
(4)Derek R.
Hole in the wall Mexican joint but it has good food and service! Love the fish tacos & margaritas!
(4)Caroline G.
This place rocks! I was craving some authentic tasting Mexican food, arrived for lunch, and even though it was busy service was still very good and attentive. I ordered the "numero uno y medio" which comes with one taco of your choice (I chose carne asada), one burrito of your choice (I chose bean) and one flauta (you have to try the shrimp). Servings were VERY plentiful. Please skip places like Serrano's or Nacho Mama's..the food doesn't hold a candle to TC!
(5)Nola N.
The cebollitas alone will always keep me loyal to all the TCs in town. And their fish tacos are second to none I've had in town. Toss in all the other goodies--chicken taco pizza, California burritos, beans and rice, margaritas--and TC tops my list of Mexican restaurants in and around New Orleans.
(4)Luke F.
All of their meats are great quality and grilled to perfection. Definitely try the chorizo. California Burritos are gigantic and quite filling. If I want to leave completely stuffed, I'll go for the número tres: chorizo, carne asada and pork tacos, beef flauta, chicken burrito and small house salad (which is also delicious on it's own if you want to go lighter). Even after living in the mecca of Mexican food for 3 years out in California and growing up in NOLA with food options galore, Taqueria Corona is one of my top restaurants to hit when I'm back in town.
(5)Jeff L.
Wonderfully fresh, hand-made Mexican served at crazy low prices. The marinated chicken they use if freaking delicious. Love the tongue taco and the fresh pico de gallo. Crispy shrimp flauta smothered in tangy guacamole. The black beans are the best I've ever tasted. Just a great place!
(5)Ryan W.
Yet another TC location with the same great food. The best Mexican food in the New Orleans area can be found at Taqueria Corona.
(5)Mary E.
Really great tacos, fresh salsa, and gigantic burritos; yummy guacamole and delicious beans. I don't drink margaritas, but have it on good authority that they rock.
(5)Makenzie D.
Best fish tacos in new Orleans!!!!!!
(5)L L.
My favorite dish here is the fish tacos. The fish is crispy, and the sauce - some variation on mayonnaise, lemon complements the fish and cabbage well. The cheese enchilada is huge and a creamy gooey delicious mess. I've had the taco salad, and they are willing to accommodate your preferences, the black beans ( tasty), they used to have a good gazpacho, but haven't in a while" I'm not crazy about their guacamole ( I like Serranos and Chipotle guacamole better), but their chips are usually very fresh and crisp.
(4)Kurt L.
$16.75 for a plate that used to be $12. Some people let websites go to their head. It was was full when I entered, but when I left, the action was next door at Carreta's. It sounded like a frat party in there while taqueria corona was shutting down. Next time I'm trying the place next store, because a plate with no rice and "double beans" really sucks. I should have gone with my intuition. For the amount of time I waited, they could have made rice. Like lunch today at another place. $1 for cheese, $1 for sweet potato fries, $9.50 for fried green tomatoes, and $10 for a sandwich that has half the plate covered in fries. It's like every restaurant is becoming a tourist trap...

Very nice atmosphere. Small but quant. Good food and service, prices good for hoe much food you get I got the numero uno couldn't finish it
(4)Brian B.
Place was great atmosphere, reasonable prices, though a few extra charges for seconds on queso and guc, but nothing that bad. I had a número 2, which is a beef taco, chicken taco, been burrito, beans and rice, and a shrimp flauta, I saw one come out, so I got an extra one as well. I have been to Mexico quite a few times and I can honestly say this is the best Mexican place I've been in the states, very authentic in every aspect. It's the small things, like fried tortillas for that perfect crunch or the freshness of the pico de gallo. Everything here is from scratch. My shrimp flautas were so big as well, but both were absolutely delicious in every bite. Service was great, very friendly. My only complaint honestly is that they don't allow ecig smoking in here, which is new to me as it's water vapor, but I never really mind going outside. I will never miss out on stopping here when I am in New Orleans again, and now I have been ruined for Taco Bell for the near future

Love this uptown gem! Great brunch
(5)Talmadge R.
Small joint tucked at the end of a shopping center on hickory. Amazing food for a very cheap price! Probably the best Mexican in river ridge. Must try the carne asada tacos.
(4)Minnie M.
Just had lunch there; fish taco and serving of pico de gallo and chips. EXCELLENT!!! Fish light and crispy, just the perfect amount of sauce and red cabbage garnish. Pico de gallo perfect and chips fresh and toasty. Prompt, polite, and professional service.
(5)Jennifer B.
Great lunch spot. You may have to wait for a table, because this small space fills up quickly, but it's worth it. Get the California Burrito, but save half for the next day. It's a great value, since it's a huge meal - enough for 2 - and it's cheap! Service isn't always the friendliest, but that's because they are trying to move you in & out as quickly as possible to seat the next group. However, food can sometimes be a little slow, since I think it's all freshly prepared. Overall, one of my favorite places to get lunch in the Elmwood/Harahan area.

Average tex mex. If you have ever had great authentic mexican food you can understand the low rating
(2)Megan C.
I have only been here once based on reading some of the other reviews. I had to, of course, try the fish tacos because most of the reviews raved about them. I have to concur with the rest of the people, they are excellent, lightly fried fish with a nice spicy sauce and purple cabbage to top it, I went with the soft flour tortilla shell and they also fry that up just a little bit. I also got some guacamole and chips, those were good as well but I have had better guacamole. I will definitely try this place again. It was very reasonably priced as well as the food I tried being excellent
(5)Blake B.
By far the best Mexican in the area.

MICROWAVE! Really people not 1 of these reviews have mentioned that they cook most of their food in 1 of the 2 microwaves they have!!! The rib eye carne asada taco and the grilled cebollitos appetizer (which were very good) was the only thing cooked on the grill. Everything else we ordered was cooked in the microwave including the California Steak burrito that I ordered. They filled a cold tortilla with rice, beans, and PRECOOKED steak and then stuck it in a microwave and warmed it up! This is not real Mexican food! RIDICULOUS! Would never recommend this place.
(2)Billy F.
Yuck. I ordered 3 chicken tacos which consisted of dried out grilled chicken chunks and pico de gallo. No cheese or lettuce. A dollar extra for sour cream. Queso dip was of the Velveeta and Rotel variety. At least it tasted like it. Not good. Very disappointed. I won't be back or recommend. Service was great. That's the only reason I'm giving it 2-stars.
(2)Hector G.
Clean and great service. We had the sangria and it was great. The poco de gallo and chips was ok. And the quest fundido was ok. Not great. Just ok. Atmosphere was definitely strip mall.
(2)Jen B.
Taqueria Corona is a wonderfully consistent and reasonably priced little chain of authentic Mexican restaurants (not Tex-Mex). I have been to all three location over the years and each time the food is delicious and almost exactly the same level of yumminess. I love the cebollitos, the tacos, and if you are really hungry the California burritos are HUGE!! The Combo platters are more food than I can consume so I usually just order a la carte. There are vegetarian options, too.
(4)Chantel T.
Delicious, authentic Mexican food. I ordered the medio y uno entree: chicken burrito, shrimp flauta and fish taco with rice and beans. Cheap prices, great service, and a relaxed atmosphere. We were all more than pleased with our choices and are planning to go back as soon as possible.
(4)Diane L.
Maybe I went at a bad time, Was not impressed and everything was super greasy and the service was slow. I sat at the bar and did not like watching the food being cooked, it cheapened the experience as I watched the frozen items go into the microwave and grease.
(2)Don L.
Since I'm in New Orleans - BAM! Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. Prepared fresh and served hot. I have no idea whether it us 'original' Mexican. The sauces are home made and VERY tasty. I can see why the locals love thus place. I'll be back again soon.
(5)Jamie B.
Was in town on business and Siri brought me here. Great food and service. Fish tacos were very fresh. Big value for the dollar. Will definitely be back next time
(5)Ryan D.
My favorite Mexican restaurant in the city. I have to stop myself from going every day...I don't know why, it's worth it. Best fish tacos I've ever had!
(5)John N.
The staff were fantastic, quick, friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The chicken quesadillas are good, but the beef enchilada is not that great. The ground beef poor quality, tortilla is too thin, way too much cheese. I could only eat half of it. Margarita was OK, not much tequila and served in a plastic wine glass?
(3)Tom M.
Absolutely horrible. I am an aficionado of Mexican food and this was a disaster. Burritos were tough, enchiladas were soupy and salsa flavorless. Poor excuse for Mexican food.
