They would have gotten 5 stars but they were out of OYSTERS!!!!!!! And the margarita tasted like a war head candy !!!!!! Ok onto the excellent stuff --- which was everything else . We had a party of 6 and our waitress was amazing . She anticipated our needs and took care of us all the way . We had the appetizers of boudin balls and alligator! Both I recommend For dinner everything we tried was excellent. I loved loved the soft shell crab and stuffed shrimp and stuffed catfish . Maybe this is a Texas thing ( yes we are tourists) but they didn't bring any sauce out . You had to ask for it .... Which was odd but easy to fix . Totally worth the price paid for everything!

Usually Good food but the wait is crazy for lunch. I called a to-go order in for lunch. I was told 15 minutes and it would be ready. Now it's 45 minutes later and still no food. Don't know who has two hours for lunch but I don't, neither does my crew. No excuses offered or no compensation offered. Don't think I'll be doing this for the office again.

The food was pretty good; but it could have been better if it was hotter. The service was not friendly at all; and it was very very slow. It took 40 minutes to get just our appetizer, which was Fried Crab Claws. Then after we saw two other tables, that arrived 40 minutes after us, were getting their food, we had to ask where our food was; after an hour. Our waitress seem to disappear, we never could find her. But, I guess she was too busy with the waiter that gave her the erotic massage, which I had to look at while I was waiting for my food!!! We arrived at Don's around 2:15 pm; and there were only a few tables with people. I would hate to see how long it would take, if it was crowed. Poor and rude Management. The owner, Mike Landry, was there; but soon left. Like they say; While the cat is away; the mouse will play. And they were playing.

We had ditched our trailer and bobtailed over to the Best Buy and the mall to get my nails done. We figured we would take advantage of the freedom and find some good Cajun. Yelp lead us to Don's. They've been in business for like 80 years or something! We started off with the alligator bites and boudin balls. Then we each ordered the seafood combo wit stuffed shrimp, fried catfish, fried oysters and etouffe. Hubby added bisque and I added gumbo and red beans on the side. Boudin balls had good flavor, as did the gator, which was mildly spicy and tender. The gumbo and the bisque were very good, but, if I had to pick one...we both would choose the bisque. Fried shrimp are really yummy. Fried fish is really yummy. The stuffed shrimp and the stuffed crab were not my favorite. I found the stuffing to be a bit too creamy for my liking. The etouffee was very flavorful although possibly with a hint of too much salt? The portion is huge. Honestly, for two people, order the combo and share it. Especially if you're ordering the gator. Which you really need to do. The red beans are a bowlful of creamy, smoky goodness. So, now that we've had the sampler, next visit I will order the gator, bisque, fried shrimp and red beans. Looking forward to it already!

We decided we wanted seafood on our stay in Hammond and this was the perfect choice. The char-broiled oysters were excellent. The fried alligator was perfect - I expected that it would turn out tough but it was just right. I had the crab plate and everything was excellent. The shrimp boil was perfect. Many times I find restaurants overcook the shrimp but not here. Everything was prepared beautifully. My only complaint was that it was two for one drink night. We wanted the four of us to have one drink each, but couldn't convince the waitress that I was one drink and my companion was the other. She insisted we each had to have two, which she didn't do until we had each finished our drinks and she told us she would be bringing us our second ones.

I have eaten here many times before. I love the half off oysters on Monday. I probably wouldn't eat here if it wasn't for the specials because I think the place is way over priced for what you get, but the food has always been really good. I will say this though, the service is always excellent. Caitlin waited on us Monday and she was awesome!

Gumbo was outstanding!! The jacked up oysters were not as good as thought they would be but it's a one of a kind dish so i have nothing to compare it to. Service from Becca at the bar was excellent.

We were on our way home and just passing through Hammond. We found Don's Seafood on Yelp and decided to stop and eat. It was delightful and delicious. The baked shrimp dish was soooooooo delicious. Service was excellent! So very friendly! A bit warm in the corner with all the glass, but it was extremely hot outside so that is understandable. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience.

DON'S Seafood - Hammond, LA was our first stop. I had very high hopes when I entered this restaurant. My hopes were realized. The ambiance was great and the food was amazing. I'm just sorry that I couldn't eat more.

I went against the recommendations of my hotel host and Yelped to Don's instead. I believe a wise decision on my part. I sat at the bar as I was a single. OK 2-1 drafts Abita amber ale..check... Seafood Gumbo with oysters fantastic! Fried Oysters with corn meal breading done perfect.. What stopped the 4-5 stars.. If "Don" reads Yelp you need to help out your bartender. She should not be serving the bar, your servers, and waiting the tables near the bar. She is over worked and your patrons at the bar suffer. She was so busy she got my gumbo order but forgot to put in my dinner order. She was constantly running back to your kitchen to fix or check on food orders. If nothing else give her a raise she is overworked. Bottom line Don's is AOK.... Great Louisiana style food and I will return on my next business trip!!

I wish I got to experience the real Don's during my trip to Louisiana, all I wanted was to get some real good food, but I was always in a rush and was mostly only able to get fried stuff. Thus was the case at Don's. I was with a large group, and our schedule got messed up (we were there for work), and we ended up with only a half an hour for lunch. We asked Don's if they could make that happen, and they basically said yes, as long as it is simple food, like salads or friend things. So most of us got po boys. They were good, but I really wanted to get something more authentic. Next time Don's!

Great food and ambiance! We stumbled across this restaurant on a road trip and had been eating at the more typical chains along the freeway so Don's was a treat! Great seafood and service as well as an authentic Louisiana feel to it, hence the alligator at the entrance. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for some great seafood and Cajun specialties.

I went here while in Hammond on business. I tried the crawfish etoufee and it was so so. Wasn't bad but wasn't great, just kind of so so. The hostess was nice though and the atmosphere in the restaurant was unique (in a good way).

I ate here twice on my trip to Louisiana. The first time I sat to the bar during a Monday Night Football and I felt bad for the bartenders. They were serving everyone seated at the bar and filling the drink orders for the restaurant; they were running. I got the Charbroiled Oysters which were amazing! I had to wait a bit for my order, but I was ok with that because I was there for the game. The second time I went, I was at a table my server was nice but I had to remind her about the other half of my order. Overall, I loved the food and was mostly satisfied with the service.

We stopped here on our way to Texas. Food was okay. We had lunch and very small portions. I left still hungry. Overpriced for the amount/quality of food you get, but the food had a good taste. I think there are much better Cajun places that aren't chains I would try out instead.

this was the only place i could find that would be open at 10 pm. what a great find! there was music and tvs all around which gives you a very social atmospher. the special on monday is $0.25 oysters and tuesday is $1.99 crawfish. i came on both days! i ordered the boiled shrimp, dz oysters and green salad and on the second day got the shrimp, crawfish and oysters. all were super tasty and would eat there everyday if i could!

Amazing service!! I think our servers name was Ben... He was outstanding! Very attentive and even brought us some insanely good bread pudding since we waited a little while for the food! The crawfish had perfect flavor and was not expensive which is a big deal for restaurant crawfish! ;) the crawfish etouffee was great as well!! Amazing experience! Will definitely be back:)

I almost gave this place 4 stars. Let's call it 3.5. Food was excellent, all in all. Great gumbo, good blackened red fish, and excellent red beans and rice. Negatives: while I loved our server, it took forever to get our food. It may not have been her fault, but we got the impression she forgot to put our order in. The other negative is 10-oz beer size. They were out of their "little mugs" so I had a regular 12-oz beer glass - and it was clearly not full. I obviously had a skeptical look on my face because our server explained - sorry, they're out of the usual smaller mugs. The usual smaller mugs? Really? You serve 10-oz beers? She nods, clearly embarrassed - not her fault and she's sorry. But it left a lame taste in my mouth about the place. Skimping on 2 oz is not cool in my book... I was visiting from Texas, and our beers come in 12-, 16-, and 22-oz sizes, unless you're ordering a flight of samplers.

Had a horrible experience today. We had a sleeping toddler on my shoulder and requested a booth. We were fine having to wait a few extra minutes. About 10 minutes passes and a different hostess called our name and attempted to seat us at a high top. We declined for obvious reasons. We were finally seated without silverware. We ordered our appetizer, a dozen charbroiled oysters and 2lbs of crawfish. The oysters came out with no cocktail forks, still no silverware and no bread. We had to ask for the menus to be removed to make room for the platters. Our crawfish followed, still no silverware. A few minutes into our crawfish silverware shows up by this time our oysters are cold. We were then told our entrees would be out in a few moments. 10 minutes later our server, Anders comes by to tell us our food is cooked but they are waiting on fresh gumbo to send it out and it would be a few more minutes. We requested the food that was ready immediately and the gumbo when it ready. About 10 more minutes and our order came it was slightly warm and the gumbo tasted like improperly cooked instant roux mix. I sent the gumbo back as it tasted burnt. No manager came to the table or seemed to be present. Our water glasses were never refilled nor were we offered to order another drink. Overall poor service + poor food= bad experience. Don't waste your time or your money.

If you want grilled oysters go to Sammy's. If you Cajun food go to Kevin's Kajun Kafe. If you want Don's go to the frozen food section at Walmart.

Good service great food, just another typical seafood restaurant in Louisiana and I approve of it. They remodeled less than a year ago and it looks great. Shrimp and crab gumbo was great as well as the fried alligator yum yum yum.

I have been to many other Don's in different locations but never been to this particular Restaurant. We stopped while in the area on other business. First impression when we sat down for dinner was how dark it was. . . could barely read the menu. The Gumbo was ok seasoned well but the Shrimp must have just been caught and thrown in the pot because they seemed undercooked and almost raw. Got the Shrimp Trawler which consisted of fried shrimp, stuffed shrimp, potatoes and some kind of Au Gratin. This place is also subpar on the portions as I only got three fried shrimp and one stuffed shrimp for about $20. The Wifes Crab Au Gratin however was really good. Skipped dessert. . . . . service was good and never had to ask for a refill.

Definitely recommend this place if you're in town. I sat at the bar and had two people waiting on me. Never had to ask for anything. I has the Shrimp Crawl and it was fantastic. It came with a cup of the shrimp jumbo which was also very good. The place isn't real pretty from the outside, but the inside, food, and service more than makes up for it

My husband and I went here for dinner. My husband was born and lives in this area as he was growing up, but me, I am from the north so I was all excited about getting some seafood. Portions are huge, service was good, timely and effecient. I would definately go back and recommend this to others.

No reviews? Well, it looks like my first, well first! On my continual tourist search for crawfish I was sent to Dons. This is your typical casual Louisiana dining establishment. Nice atmosphere but you can wear shorts and even laugh silly loud and no one will really care. My waiter rocked. Nice guy. I told him about my crawfish pursuit and he told me their bugs were not that good. I appreciate honesty. I ended up going with the fried catfish with crawfish etoufee topping and some white rice. I started with the hushpuppies. Overall a very good dish. Service was very nice and very quick. They are going through a renovation now so be prepared for the smell of fresh paint, etc. I enjoyed myself here and would head back the next time I was in Hammond for a few days.

We decided to stop here out of necessity on a trip to Lafayette. We wanted some seafood and something a bit above fast food. Don's had some great reviews, but our experience wasn't great. We started with calamari marinara, a "special" appetizer that night, but it took forever and when it reached us,it was cold. We sent it back. Apologies all around. Then our main courses arrived. I got the gumbo, my husband - the fried oysters. He LOVED his oysters, but the gumbo was so salty I had to send it back (my husband concurred; we think someone had an "accident" with the salt. It was inedible.) They staff apologized and I ordered a crawfish salad instead that was very good. Most of the food here is fried. It seems to be a popular place, but is really a chain with all that entails. Decent wine list, excellent service.

We went to the Gator farm and ate here afterwards. It was fun. The oysters had mud in them, so that was disappointing. Our steak was delicious.

I little pricy but well worth it! I was taken there on a job interview and was very impressed with the resturant all the way around.

Good food, excellent service. A little pricier than other places, but you get your money's worth of high quality food.
