Shoney's is a large part of my childhood. This is clearly a theme with most of my reviews. I remember going to the location on Crowder Blvd when I was a kid all the time, because we lived in Walnut Square right there on the 1-10/Crowder Intersection. I actually had my first Reuben Sandwich at a Shoney's, back when their menu was vast and they buffet was their main selling item. As a rule, I don't really like buffets. If I am in the mood for one, I'll go somewhere like Ryan's or the Harrah's Casino Buffet, somewhere that I can really gorge myself. So it does rather sadden me that Shoney's seems to be pushing the buffet so much harder than their kitchen items. Their meatloaf with red gravy is still one of the tastiest items they serve. Their spaghetti brings me back to my childhood and their sandwiches are still on point. Service is always wonderful, and well worth the drive from Metairie. My biggest complaints are with their corporate practices rather than against the restaurant itself. Shoney's is simply a chain that refuses to evolve. They don't sell alcohol, they don't stay open late and their menu has been scaled back to just basics. Gone are the days of the Reuben Sandwich, or back when they had BBQ ribs that were fantastic. I hope this location survives, because their hot fudge cake is still my all time favorite dessert.

It's so hard...to say goodbye to yesterday! This food sucks. I ate here because I wanted quick, which lead me to the buffet. Eererrrelkk!!! Everything was there- Just not prepped right. Grits, eggs, sausage. A salad bar!! I remember the good ole days and Shoneys was like a big time restaurant. Really loved the pasta. It was called spaghetti at the time. I am being nostalgic!!! LOL!! I know my pallet has changed BUT - it saddens me to say this but their era has ended. The food is not tastie and the servers aren't friendly. Sorry again!

Ah joy...the chain restaurant and I cross paths yet again! Think of this place as an IHOP, but with a buffet. Depending on who is in the kitchen, those items on the buffet can be packed with flavor. The breakfast buffet has been revamped a little bit to ensure freshness and quality. Along with the multiple fruits, grits, eggs, various types of sausages, chicken bites and salad fixings, they opted to let you have eggs fixed the way you like fresh. They also allow you to order pancakes fresh, to ensure they are high quality by the time you eat them, at no additional cost. Items are plentiful, and they constantly bringing in new items to restock the multitudes of people that attack the buffet ferociously. The breakfast/brunch buffet is always in high demand. The lunch and dinner buffet usually have some staple items such as fried chicken, soup and salads, along with other items that bring women, men and children alike with greased faces and glossy eyes trying to eat more and more! Simple desserts such as angel food cake and puddings are located on the buffet as well. If buffets are not your thing, this is a full course restaurant as well. Check the website for the multiple categories of food you will be provided. All in all, this is a good value for your buck. You pay a little over $10 with drink for the buffet, with your child paying about half of that amount. Give them a try.

Where do i start..the food sucks. Everythimg was over cooked and dry. And it seem one of the workers there was less then friendly. She claims she saw nothing wrong with the food and if we didnt like it eat else where. Not professional at all. And claims she was a manager! Carol was her name. And totally smelled of cigarettes and coughed woth out covering her mouth. Totally gross. No wonder this chain is closing down.

(9/1/2013) Time to update these reviews people! Every time I visit, I come here. Always good food and service. The manager - Larry I think - was super friendly. I asked about French toast and it appeared less than 3 minutes later. Thanks for some great eats!

We had the best experience ever! We had been here in the past and had poor experiences. Now, it's a completely different place. The food from the menu came out quickly and tasted great. One of us had the bar, and all was good and hot. The service was the best and friendliest. They make you feel at home. Cleanliness has improved greatly. The manager, Larry, came to check on us and was super friendly. Kudos to him for improving this location and making us want to come back!

FAIL, Place was empty @1:30 on a Friday. Holly was our server. There was plenty of staff, sitting. I brought my 10year old for a shake. FAIL. It was chocolate milk, barely cold, no chunks of ice cream, just runny like milk, no extra on the side in a tin cup. It's no wonder these things are falling off the face of the planet. Holly was trying hard, but she wasn't being given the tools to serve us. Avoid at all cost.

The lunch buffet is 7.99$. Here's a decent salad bar, your typical southern food, and some fruits and dessert. The last time I was here was 10+ years ago. The outside has been renovated as well as the inside, but the layout is the exact same! The staff was so friendly and everyone was very welcoming. Not the best food ever, but I definitely recommend it for a decent quick bite.

Shoney's is about the same as I remember. Considering this is the only location I've ever eaten at, I couldn't tell you if it's good or bad. For the price, the breakfast buffet is decent. Much better than Golden Corral. You can order eggs any way you want them and pancakes if there happen to be none on the hot bar. I recently got the gingerbread pancakes and they weren't too great. Probably should've stuck with regular pancakes.
