The best overall Japanese restaurant I have ever eaten at so far. I love everything about it from the amazing service to the always fantastic food. Definitely my go to when I am craving this type of food. I've tried several other places and none of them compare.

Taste of Tokyo is is the best kept secret in Destrehan. I became a fan of sushi just a few years ago so I'm still exploring the Sushi options across the greater New Orleans area and am quite pleased that one of the best around is practically in my backyard in the tiny town of Destrehan. I've yet to eat anything here that I didn't like and the edamame here is my favorite I've ever had. The service is great and the staff very friendly. They are a bit pricier than some of the other sushi places I've frequented, but certainly worth an extra few dollars for the flavor, the ambience and service. Next time you're out in the river parishes, stop in or ride out to the river parishes and try it out. If you're a sushi fan, you won't be disappointed!

I think I set my expectations a little bit too high when I came to Taste of Tokyo for a business lunch. I love sushi, but the sushi I had here was a little disappointing. I appreciate the complimentary clear soup provided, and the chicken/shrimp-tini (stir-fried meat in a sweet sauce, served in a martini glass) was pretty addictive. However, that's about it. I ordered the chirashi because, heck, Louisiana has solid seafood - unfortunately, it's probably better for you to stick with cooked food and only raw oysters. My salmon tasted like it was lightly smoked, and the tuna was overwhelmingly fishy. I liked the whitefish the most, which is ironic since I prefer salmon or tuna to whitefish almost any day. The rice is alright (good texture but minimal flavor); thankfully, the furikake sprinkled on top save it from being bland. The floors are just sticky enough for you to notice, and service is brusque yet gets the job done - I never had to ask for a refill on my water. I think if I had ordered something else, I would've enjoyed my meal a lot more. My coworkers got the hibachi, which they enjoyed a lot. It actually looked pretty darn good, too! Stick with the classic Japanese hibachi, and you'll probably enjoy your meal a lot more than I did.

I make it a point to stop here! Love the sushi and the service. The gyoza is delicious. Favorite rolls: Dancing Tuna, Burning Man, Spicy Tuna

Great sushi! The worst part of going there is trying to decide if to eat my usual (volcano roll) or have one of the other delicious rolls. The tuna is alway super fresh. If you go there, the shrimptini is a must have!! Also I love that they have a Facebook page and post when they get new interesting things in. They posted that they had just gotten sea urchin one day so I went right over to try it! Super fresh and tasty. The owner is always around talking to his customers, shaking hands, cracking jokes and just enjoying himself. He isn't afraid work though, I've seen him clear tables, clean messes, prepare sushi, deliver meals, etc. Great owner-Great place!!!

Good food but could use a little remodeling. Their seems to be too many people working in the front, and too few working and waiting tables. The order process for take-out usually gets botched. The floor needs a serious cleaning and for my taste at least the restaurant is too warm and a bit dirty. So sushi was excellent and gets a A-, but atmosphere gets a D. Could be so good if a little money was spent on the restaurant.

If you get nothing else from this review, pay attention to the following, UPSIDE DOWN ROLL, get one. This place stays busy, for good reason, the food is great. I order stuff to go often, although occasionally, I will dine in. I tend to go here on a night when I am fetching this or that for everyone else and I want something special for me. The edamame is so good, I have been known to eat an order of it on my way home. They seem to have a high server turnover, the last server I had, TJ was just awesome. The turnover does not seem to affect them, the food quality is stellar. I have never had anything of poor quality at Taste of Tokyo. My kids LOVE the Nikki Roll. I like the old standby California and I gotta say the Crunchy Dynamite and Devil Roll are some of the best. People say they are hot, but I don't see it. The best thing on the menu is the Upsidedown Roll. GET ONE! They get 4 stars instead of 5 because I do not like paying for each soft drink that my kids guzzle seperately. I prefer free refills.

I am really amazed that D'han has this good of a Sushi Restaurant. Food: I usually get the simple rolls. Spicy Tuna is always a solid play. Metaire roll was great too. Tempura anything is hard to beat. What stands out about this place versus others is their sushi rice. It's really good and taste like sushi rice should. The rolls are made well. No excess rice or too little rice on the rolls. Everything taste fresh like it should. Atmosphere: Better than most sushi restaurants. Service: The last two times I sat down, the waiter was not amazing. He kept bringing out stuff that wasn't ours and seemed flustered. It was the same waiter both times. They are quick tho for lunch with is great. Extra something something: Online ordering. Nuff said.

This is my number one choice for delicious, interesting sushi rolls! There is always something new to try that puts a new spin on sushi. Perfect for a nice dinner or just a casual lunch. Favorites: KO salad, shrimptini, Crunchy Salmon Roll, Tokyo Joe, Tokyo Sunrise, and the Big Easy Roll

The sushi here was excellent. Stopped in here with a customer and had the burning man roll and the angry bird roll. Both were very good and were even fairly spicy. The place was quite busy and the food came quickly after ordering it. This location was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful in navigating the very long list of sushi items.

Best sushi ever!!! Not to mention the fabulous shrimptini appetizer! Get it and you'll thank me later! Every roll I've ever tried has been top notch!! I'm an addict for sure!

Wow. Pretty freakin awesome, I must say. My father and a group of his friends (including myself) ride motorcycles once a week. They like to find restaurants that are at least 30 minutes away to ride to. This was one of their latest discoveries. I went riding with them last night. When I heard we were riding to a Japanese place, I was like "Ummm.... I'm not sure about this." But it was so worth it. We ordered a hibachi chicken which was alright... not my favorite. We also ordered a fish dish, I can't remember what it was called. As soon as I remember, I'll update this. But this fish was OFF THE CHAIN!!! Also, a friend recommended that I get the snow-crab calamari. I'd never heard of such a dish, but I like to try new this. By far, this is the best calamari I've EVER had. It's not a fancy place. It's very casual and I like the ambience of this place a lot. It's awesome. Can't wait for next week's riding trip so I can come back. I know I'm definitely getting the calamari again. Props to the owners and managers. They've done a great job.

Watch out, this review is pretty lengthy. My visit to Taste of Tokyo was a spontaneous one. My hunger growled and my best friend suggested we try this place because 1) He works nearby and 2) It's the best sushi place he's ever eaten at. I've always wanted to try this place out, but ToT is 1) 30 minutes away from me and 2) 30 minutes away from me. Yeah, it pretty much comes down to location. However, my BF offered to pick me up AND drive back. Score. P.S. ToT is now open in River Ridge! Read my review here: bit.ly/xRpFgv ============================= Atmosphere The size of ToT's dining area is pretty average, and the sushi bar doesn't seat more than 6. You can tell all the locals go here because all the workers socialize and joke with them. That's pretty awesome if you take the time out to talk to your customers. I remember seeing only one TV (pretty sure there's more). I totally love the home-y/family feeling that ToT gives off. Makes me want to sit there and talk for hours. ============================== Food My BF and I sat at the sushi bar. We started off with some clear soup with mushrooms that were SLICED, and so, I didn't mind having mushrooms in my soup even though I hate mushrooms. The chefs didn't take our order directly; we had to tell our server so they can punch it in the system, so sadly, not much interaction with the chef). Secondly, I judge a place by their tuna tataki (no matter how it's served-torched, peppered, etc.). Let me tell you that it was just amazing. The fresh tuna was seared lightly (as it SHOULD BE!) with a peppered crust on top of stringy cucumbers (it usually comes with avocado but I requested a switch) and carrots. I honestly murdered that appy. My BF, who normally does not even touch raw fish, enjoyed it too. Btw, this dish is the Pepper Tuna Sashimi. Thirdly, the Upside Down roll turned my taste buds right side up. Wait, what? I watched the chef as he put a perfectly made roll on top of a hot plate, then poured the sauce right on top that sizzled its way to my nose. I stated, "That looks good... really interesting." My friend goes, "That's ours." Lol. I honestly can't remember the ingredients, but describing the way your taste buds experiences it is complicated enough. The roll is hot at the bottom and cold at the top. Order it and see for yourself. Other items we had: Shrimp tini - 3.5/5 - couldn't eat more than 3 because the sauce was kind of thick and a little overpowering Garlic lover roll - 3.5/5 - everything was on point, but I think i would've enjoyed it more if it wasn't torched. Calamari cruncy roll - 5/5 - SO DELICIOUS. Fried bananas/ice cream - I only ate the vanilla ice cream so my rating won't be valid if I had to give it one lol. Honestly, everything was just delicious down to the last bite. Sigh. Food coma for real. ============================== Service I never once had to ask for anything, except for more ponzu sauce and the check. That should say enough about the service, right? :) ============================== Why 5 stars ToT reignited my love for sushi. After being deprived of amazing sushi for so long, I definitely appreciated what ToT had to offer. Their refreshing tuna sashimi along with really different rolls accommodates my need for freshly unique combinations. Give YOURSELF 5 stars if you actually read this entire review!

Delicious!!! One of my favorite things about this restaurant, other than the food, was the atmosphere. If you go on a Friday night, expect a long wait... But last time I went they were remodeling the location and making it bigger. Overall very satisfied and plan on visiting the River Ridge location soon. It was worth driving all the way to Destrehan from Metairie.

I pass this place several times a week and always wondered how it stayed in business. A tiny Japanese restaurant tucked into the back of a Destrehan plaza? Not being a sushi aficionado, I wasn't even sure what to order if I did go there. That last time I was at a Japanese restaurant, there were flying knives and steak. Recently, several colleagues who are new to the area ate there and came back with glowing reviews. The one comment that really peaked my curiosity was from a Sushi connoisseur (I'm using the word loosely) who claimed Taste of Tokyo was better than the best Sushi restaurant in Beaumont. I know what you are thinking.... or at least what you should be thinking. Anyhow, I was inspired to eat there. Saturday evening, dinner for two. The first surprise was how many cars were in the lot. It's bigger than expected inside. Nice Sushi bar to the rear. Decor is classic Japanese/Saints. I imagine this is typical to what you would see anyplace in Japan. Service was awesome. While there appeared to be a waiter assigned to the table, anybody in the area would jump on a drink refill order or bus the table. Along with the menu, there is a four page list of various sushi offerings. For a variety of reasons, we stuck with the main menu. First, the calamari and snow crab appetizer - snow crab salad was good, calamari was OK, tasted very good together. Habachi Noodle dish was enough to feed two, lots of shrimp and vegetables. The best dish was the Honey Pecan Chicken - you can see a picture on the website. While I don't recommend licking the plate, I understand the sentiment. I went with 3 stars, could be 4 after I sample the Sushi. Total price with tip? About $55. Overall impression - good to very good experience. I not only understand how this place stays in business, I am relieved that I don't have to go to Beaumont for Sushi.

Wow, just returned home from working out of town for a week. Went to "Taste of Tokyo" for dinner. Talk about busy! It's great to see a local restaurant packed. Ordered the usual; Cajun Tuna, Gyoza, Metairie and Crunchy Dynamite rolls. Awesome food. The service was as good as the food. Take a drive to Destrehan and give this place a try.

Well this place is hopping at lunchtime. My coworker and I ordered take-out from this place tucked in the back of a shopping plaza. The inside looks nice, more modern than the outside with that pre-fab-looking brick of which I'm not a fan. Everything is clean and nicely organized; not cluttered. When I got there, they had everything ready and were all very pleasant. Their house salad (the typical ginger dressing on lettuce) was above par because they used nice mixed greens instead of the iceburg lettuce that every other place uses. The california roll was good and wrapped well - 8 sections for $5. Hibachi Noodle with chicken, beef, & shrimp was awesome! You know how you have to add soy sauce to a lot of establishments' noodle dishes because the noodles themselves have little to no flavor? Well this place could teach them all. They were done in an oyster sauce, the chicken and beef were juicy, and the shrimp done perfectly. I definitely can't wait to try more off of their menu!
