Great dinner last night! Sat outside with a friend and enjoyed the oyster appetizer, which were fried perfectly with a nice wasabi aioli and mango salsa, which was a light and fresh touch. I had the filet entree with Gorgonzola butter, asparagus, and potatoes- steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, asparagus prepared just the way I like it, and, although potatoes are generally an afterthought starch, the way these were prepared (sliced like a super thin gratin, topped with cheese and baked) was delicious. I would've liked more Gorgonzola butter, but then again, I could probably bathe in that stuff, so there's never enough :) Friend had the beef tournedos, also cooked perfectly with a perfectly robust burgundy sauce. Great service outside on the patio. The server checked on us several times without ever being pushy to get our orders and she was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable (can't remember her name but she had a long blond ponytail and mentioned she has a young child). Overall, a lovely little restaurant and an enjoyable evening!

Ate there about a week ago. Service was great as well as the atmosphere. My wife and I enjoyed the Crab Claws appetizer. They take a different approach to the classic appetizer but I enjoyed it. My wife ordered and enjoyed her entree salad. I didn't enjoy my entree but I cannot blame that on Macs. I should have asked the waitress for a description before I ordered. I expected a fettucini style pasta with seafood and a cajun spice cream sauce. But what I received was a thick pasta with jambalaya sauce and seafood. Considering I had already eaten jambalaya twice that week I would have chosen a different selection if I knew exactly what it was. The desert was Death by Chocolate cake and it was great and the presentation as well. I would also recommend a bread change. I did not enjoy the bread choice at all. I will be dinning there again and trying a different entree and will write another review. I do recommend Macs. Enjoy!

I can't get away from the pecan smoked chicken, it's consistently delicious My boyfriend loved the homemade pasta on the paneed chicken Dillon was great, very attentive and well spoken

Excellent atmosphere with kind and hospitable service. Outstanding offering of 1/2 salads from all any selection. Chicken/sausage gumbo was ok. Daily special was fantastic. Blackened Drum on a bed of sautéed Spinach and lemon risotto. Enjoyed our meal, recommend and returning when in the area

Well-executed American cuisine in a cozy, romantic atmosphere. Mac's is definitely a date-night, nowhere-to-be, savor-your-food place - wish I had known that when I went with a co-worker...and had a timeline. With a nice breeze in the bumper seasons (y'all know), the patio is pleasant and casual. Out on the patio, the service is definitely more laid-back, almost French in the neglect. Oh well, it is Louisiana after all. As far as food goes, the Linda's Louisiana Cobb Salad hit it all right - crisp greens and cucumber, rich avocado and egg, off-the-boat crab and shrimp. My poor co-worker, with his dietary restrictions, had the filet mignon, but nixed the potatoes didn't get any additional asparagus to balance it out. Instead, the steak looked rather sad perched on four skinny spears.

Really more of a 3.5 -- I have come here twice now for dinner on business trips. The food and atmosphere are excellent! Great cocktails and beer selection and reasonable prices. Very nice place for dinner. The dessert options were sooo good! Unfortunately both my visits, with different servers, the service was lacking. Our servers were very polite, but my water glass was constantly left empty even after reminders. Our plates were empty and we had to ask for the check/dessert menu. Expected better service.

Fantastic place and the food was amazing! I had the stuffed fish with bbq shrimp on top! Definitely worth a return visit!

My first time here...I had the firecracker oysters which were good and the mac and cheese which was really creamy and delicious. For the entrée I had the pecan smoked chicken which was not for me. I would NOT order that again. The waitress said it was one of their popular dishes but for my taste I disliked it. The chicken had no flavor besides the "smokey" flavor. The smoke overwhelmed my mouth and that's all I tasted. The grits was a little to watery/soggy for my liking. To get rid of the smoke in my mouth I ordered the creme brule for dessert and oh my gosh! That is by far the BEST I've ever had! Would go back since 3 out of 4 dishes were good. Definitely try a different entrée next time.

I went there to get some sandwich they are supposed to be famous for which is their steak sandwich. I ordered it to go and when I got home and opened the box I felt like going back there to curse them out, but didn't. They literally sold me a 3 inch sandwich for $12. This place is a rip off and needs to come down from their high horse and stop screwing people over.

Crawfish Mac and cheese is the best ever!!! Gumbo is one of the best I've ever had and I've lived here my entire life! Chef Mike works magic in the kitchen!
(5)John H.
Pretty good food. I went there because it was listed as a Cajun/creole restaurant and though I was happy with the food it didn't remind me of a Cajun place. I wanted gumbo and jambalaya and they had steak and shrimp. The Mac and cheese was really good. I would have ordered that as an entre if they offered it.
(3)Jake T.
Seriously?!? How is this place getting such high stars? It is so medio! For instance the cheese plate. They use Kraft Sharp Cheddar at best. There are no quality cheeses period. The entrees are subpar at best. Listen to me...go to Toad Hollow, Del Porto, or Boule. Dont drop good $$ here. Service was average.

My new Go-To Restaurant. Delicious steaks cooked perfectly every time. For my fiancée and I to have an appetizer, wine, the steak special and dessert for under $100.00 I was very pleased. I would recommend the firecracker oysters and butter soft fillet.
(5)Jason L.
Awesome awesome restaurant with unbelievable true southern food with a flair. Service was some of the best I've had and the drum fish over fried green tomatoes is to die for. The gumbo is super delicious and we had the pulled pork over polenta to start with which was beautifully done. If you have one choice to eat in Covington it's got to be macs. No questions asked...ever,

We went for the Sunday brunch and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is nice and the prices are very inexpensive for what you get. We had a variety from the crab cake Benedict with perfectly poached eggs, to the quiche Lorraine. Everything was delicious. And if given the option, choose the toasted buttery biscuit! I would have given 5 stars but the cappuccino was a disappointment. It was first of all cold and the espresso consisted of only 10% of the drink with the rest being cold frothed milk. If everything else is 5 stars, they should work to serve up a good cappuccino to go with the 5 star food!

I had Mother's Day brunch here with my parents for the first time. Food was yummy, service attentive, and the ambiance quite nice. The owner made an effort to speak with us and genuinely ask about our experience. I had the grilled fish over fried green tomatoes and stuffed with shrimp -- very yummy! Only hesitation is that it tasted like they used some sort of butter spray in a couple of dishes, including my mother's omelet. But overall, great experience.

I can't believe this place! You have to make this a go to!! I had a New York strip that was out of this world! My wife had grilled salmon on a salad that was wonderful ! Her drink was Southern Comfort and egg nog suggested by one of the owners and was excellent! I had a margarita that was the best I have ever had! You have to go there.
(5)Michaela A.
Very friendly and efficient service. Very pleasant deck, on the road but still pretty quiet. The best pulled pork sandwich and some delicious Fire Cracker Oysters. Everything on the menu was recommended and we plan to come back.
(5)Sam F.
Wow 4 strikes Lunch took two hours, server screwed up order, mediocre food and expensive
(2)Lawrence B.
I am happy to see a restaurant in this spot that consistently serves very good food. We were very pleased.
(5)Darren D.
Great location, great atmosphere, great service and great food. The menu has a wide variety of choices at VERY reasonable pricing. Will be back again.
(5)Caitlin C.
I completely should have mentioned they only do brunch/breakfast on Sundays. I need to try their lunch or dinner sometime.
(5)Gina V.
Long , long, long wait! Ridiculous! Have been here 2 Hours and have not even been served our salads!

Went for lunch during the week. Only one other table there but it was almost 2pm. Really cute atmosphere with white table clothes and a single rose on each table. It's an old raised house with wood floors. Quaint. I had the spinach salad and added shrimp and my friend had the black and blue salad. I swapped out the goat cheese for their Magtag blue cheese. It was delicious! Ate every bite. And so was my friends and her steak cooked to perfection. All in all everything good. Service was good as well. Enjoyed it but something about it didn't make me think I'm coming back soon.
(3)John G.
Very good. I had the bacon wrapped scallops for an appetizer and the pecan crusted smoked chicken for my entree. Both were great. The ambiance and service were also quite good. My wife had the crab cake appetizer and the filet mignon, and, again, both were excellent. We happily would do it all again. I enthusiastically recommend this place.

We had been to this restaurant several years ago under different ownership. The service was above excellent (thank you Peggy) and the food was great. My husband started with the corn and crab chowder because they were out of seafood gumbo. He really liked it! I had a 1/2 spinach salad with citrus vinaigrette -- excellent! Our entrees were also good. He had the pecan crusted chicken with cheesy grits and liked it and he doesn't like cheesy grits! I had the soy glazed salmon. The fish was nice but I really loved the tempura string beans! I've had tempura before but not on beans. Of course, we had to have dessert. My husband got the pecan crusted chocolate covered chocolate ganache. Three people could have shared it and been stuffed. I got the key lime crepes, the key lime was of marscapone and it was a nice light dessert! We had plenty of food. With two drinks and a large bottle of Pellegrino, our check was around $90. I highly recommend them for the food, service and ambience!

My wife and I went here for supper about 6pm on a Wednesday night. There were lots of tables free, so I guess it must get more popular later in the evening or on weekends. The service was very good, and the food was even better. I had the Louisiana Cobb Salad, which was like a traditional Cobb but instead of bacon it had crab meat and instead of chicken it had delicious grilled shrimp. It was a great salad, and I enjoyed the daily special soup, which was a roasted duck and andouille gumbo. I was teetotaling, so I can't speak to the cocktails, but I did enjoy a Abita Brewer root beer over ice. Beth had a trio of small plates - mac and cheese (which was really penna pasta) with sausage and crab; firecracker oysters (fried oysters with aioli and mango salsa); and Just a Salad which was a simple salad of arugula, artichokes, olives, pine nuts, and a few other things. I didn't try the oysters, but Beth liked everything she had. She also had a lemondrop martini, which was pretty potent. We'd definitely go back.

This place was great. Reminded me of my favorite restaurant back home in NY. I highly recommend the scallop appetizer, beef tenderloin entree, and any surf n' turf special.

I came in alone on a Thursday night around 8 p.m. I really like the interior of the dining room, very comfortable, simple, and elegant. I did not feel out of place for being a solo diner. I ordered the firecracker oyster per the waiter's recommendation. It was simply one of the best appetizers I've had in a long time. The oysters were fried perfectly. They were light and crispy on the outside, but had that nice fresh oyster taste and texture on the inside. The wasabi aioli and mango salsa complemented the fried oysters beautifully. I also had an old fashioned cocktail start the meal. I thought the drink was well made. For the entree I ordered the vegetable stir fry because I wanted something lighter as it was so late. It was exactly what I was looking for. The stir fry had a lot of flavor and nice variety of hearty vegetables mixed with lighter vegetables. Overall, It was a great meal and I would definitely come back.

A great place to grab a delicious $4 martini. Everyone who works here is polite, attentive, and just genuinely pleasant. The flash fried oyster BLT wrap was delicious and the oysters were breaded perfectly (not too much cornmeal, maybe they use panko? Anyway, it was a mix that both my Yankee self and southern Mr. B could enjoy. Would love to steal the recipe!) The salmon app was just okay--the fish was fresh, but I thought the balsamic reduction was a little too sweet. Regardless, it's the perfect place to relax with an inexpensive martini and eat some good food.

Great diverse menu ! Great atmosphere too! The portions and prices are great. "House " bottle of wine $15 !
(5)Paulette D.
Food, atmosphere and service is always great. Locally owned and they greet you at the door. Love the patio when weather permits and the mimosas are good on Sundays!! Fav salad- blue cheese with blackened shrimp. Fav lunch- steak sandwich. Fish specials at night have all been yummy.
(5)Chanel B.
I really hope this place sticks around, because the food is truly delicious! This building is known to frequently change owners, but Mac's should have a promising future here. The fried green tomatoes in particular were delicious, and my mother got a shrimp dish which had some of the largest shrimp I have ever seen in it, and it all tasted wonderful. The inside and outside of the building are both very quaint, so not a bad seat in the house, and service is as good as it should be.

Honestly, I love this place. It is never crowded, you can actually carry on a conversation without horrible loud music in the background (they will turn it down if you think it is too loud, too) the food is delicious-- I have had a salmon salad something which was terrific, and the veggie stir fry on the night time menu (they will fix it for lunch) is so tasty and a great choice for all those gluten free and vegan types. It has leeks and pine nuts. Yum. . .the black and blue salad and the head of lettuce salad or fab and beautiful - pork dish was delish. Everything I have had was good. It is high toned food in a sort of low tone setting. Wait staff does not hover but is appropriately available. Good drinks. Do wish they served a tiny piece of good crusty bread with the meal but love that there is no pre-dinner bread on the table to fill up on. Good menu selection and a place that I turn to regularly for consistently good meal. So far it doesn't seem to have caught on yet -- that is part of what makes it so wonderful- it is not a see and be seen place but you can always get a table and count on something yummy. .

I LOVE this place. I've only ever been for lunch, but I loved it both times. I've had the same waitress both times too - so nice. My friend got the Caesar once, and woah. It was maybe the biggest salad ever. I got the Fried Oyster BLT wrap without tomatoes. It came with sweet potato fries. They didn't take the tomatoes out, but when I pointed that out, they offered to bring me a new one and apologized profusely. It really wasn't a big deal, there weren't a lot anyways. But the sweet potato fries. I don't know what the deal is, but they are AMAZING. Just amazing. The other time I got the crab cake appetizer - Amazing! So good. Really delicious. I can't remember what else I had on this visit, but I love this little place. They have a really nice deck outside that's amazing to sit on if the weather is nice. Also a note: when I went for brunch once, a couple near me wanted both of their drinks to go. They refused, said legal issues, etc. etc. I thought it was really great of them to stick to this.

My husband and I ate here for Valentine's Day. This was our first visit to this restaurant. I can't wait to go back! This was one of the best meals we have ever had. The food was excellent. Everything was fresh and delicious. We had the crabcake appetizer. There were two small crabcakes with some sort of sauce on the plate that was very tasty. My husband had the Grilled Filet, Champagne poached lobster, potato gateau, and asparagus with Champagne Hollandaise. This dish was also very tasty. He thoroughly enjoyed everything on his plate. I had the Crab Stuffed Mahi Mahi with sautéed spinach and fried green tomatoes, topped with Abita Purple Haze beer butter Shrimp. It was outstanding. Every single thing on the plate was delicious. I don't normally eat spinach or fried green tomatoes, and I enjoyed both immensely. For dessert we split the Death by Chocolate Cake with strawberry and white chocolate mousse, topped with strawberry puree and a chocolate covered strawberry. Once again, we were not disappointed. This cake was so good! I can't say enough about the food at this restaurant. I only hope that when we go back that it will be just as good. Looking at other reviews, it seems that they consistently have great food. You don't want to pass this place up!

My partner and I just got home from this place. It was wonderful. We had the crab cake appetizer (small- I want more!), the crawfish, shrimp, and andouille pasta which had a delicious pizza like flavor, the spicy (nicely cooked) shrimp and scallop orzo pasta, and the chocolate cake dessert which was the only thing we couldn't finish. Everything was good, service was wonderful, and we could see fireworks from our table by the window; great date night!
(5)Chris V.
We had Easter Brunch at Mac's. The Grillades and Grits, Chicken and Waffles, Crabmeat Florentine Omelette and French Toast were all excellent! Service was attentive and friendly. I have yet to have a bad dish here. You should go!
(4)Ginger T.
I've dined here a hand full of times now, both for dinner and lunch. All the dishes I've had have been very good. The staff is always friendly, but not always experienced.

This place is amazing! We had a girls night here. It was so nice and relaxing. The food was delicious. The wine was the best I have personally ever had. I will definitely be returning here. :)
