Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Honestly and straight up this place is a joke. Flat out a joke. Walked in and took the hostess quite some time to figure out where to seat us. Once seated, right by one of the POS systems, we were quickly visited by a server. Drink order was taken and chips, salsa and there "famous" bean dip was served. If a famous bean dip is canned refried beans with tasteless jalapeno rings then they really need help. Queso dip had a nice "pudding skin" as my BF described it. Makes you wonder how long that sat in a bowl before being served to us...... It was super loose, and didn't start to firm up until after we were done with our meal. OK time to order. I order the fish tacos. Now it's around 11:45 on a weekday and I'm informed they are out of fish tacos. REALLY? Seriously are you kidding me? The place opens at 11:00 or 11:30 I believe and how the heck can they already be out of fish tacos? As you're quickly figuring out I'm not a happy camper. If your starting your day of service out of Fish or whatever it maybe that your out of might be a good idea to run to a local store, fish market, whatever and get what you need. Basically the food is Sysco frozen crap, heated up and slapped on a plate. I think we sat for a good 5 or 10 minutes waiting on refills on soda and our check. As I'm walking out the door I ask the hostess for a to go menu. Not cause I wanted to come back but I wanted all the proper info and prices to inform you all here. The answer I got. We are out of them.. I ask when they opened, oh Monday and we ran out of to go menus in less then an hour on Monday. It was a Thursday I believe when we were there and they still hadn't had any more to go menus printed up? Bad business, just flat out bad, bad, BAD.

I love this place because they are consistent, fast, and kid friendly. We always get our food in less that 20 minutes here. Its a great place to go for lunch if your on a lunch break. My kids love the chips and salsa and the food is not awesome but its pretty good. I have had better enchiladas but I am still giving 4 stars because of the good service and speed!

Having lived in Texas many years as well as gone to school in Austin there, i;ve eaten a lot of Mexican and Tex Mex food, from very good to very bad. This food i think is pretty good, probably about average vs my experiences, but for south Louisiana, pretty reasonable. THE MAIN ISSUE, and it is a big one, is the chips. without question, they have the worst chips I have ever eaten in my life - nothing is even close. Chips from the local grocery store are 10 times better. Amazingly, their salsa is quite good and fresh, as is the queso. The margaritas are quite well made and cannot complain about anything else. IF THEY CHANGED THE CHIPS, this would be the best Mexican place in south Louisiana.

Pricey for quality of food and portions. Not impressed.

The only good thing with our meal was the chips and salsa (beans are also served with the chips). Service was poor, food was poor, and personally, I'll go to taco bell up the road before going there again.

I was really surprised by the negative reviews after eating here. We have eaten at Garcia's several times and each time have found the food, service and atmosphere really great. We are from Tucson and have a wonderful selection of Mexican restaurants here and I would say that Garcia's would be right at the top here. My husband is on year long assignment in the area and we have eaten at a number of restaurants in the area and Garcia's is one of our favorites! The fish tacos are over the top. The chips, salsa and refried beans they bring to the table are awesome with the downfall being you fill up on them before your meal comes. Our server was very attentive and food was brought to us in a very timely manner. We always leave with wonderful leftovers. I love the Cajun food in New Orleans but Garcia's is outstanding - which it has to be to compete in the restaurant market. We found it to be a great choice to Cajun!

Went here on a Thursday "date night" and the parking lot was full and we saw people waiting outside. Wife went in to ask the wait time and was to about 20 minutes. We decided to wait at the bar and before we could order drinks our table was ready. Chips salsa and bean dip were brought to the table, Chips fresh, salsa good, bean dip very good, spicy with slices of jalapeno. We didn't order appetizers. I was hungry so i ordered the mid size combination plate, enchiladas, tamale, taco and tostado (which i have never understood, its just and open face taco). Everything was as good as i expected, the tamale was very good, large, flavorful and NOT dry. Wife had fish tacos which she was surprised to find was fried pieces of fish but said was good. Chimichanga type desert, sorry can't remember the exact name but was very good, little fried chimi with cream cheese and banana's chocolate sauce, ice cream and whip cream. Services was good and attentive. The only issue we had was, my wife's meal came with a salad which came ofter the entree's arrived. Not a big deal (especially to her) but one of the little issues new restaurants need to work out. Price's seemed a little high but i think we have gotten spoiled to mexican restaurants with very low prices and mediocre food. We will be going back, i need to try the chilli reno's.

There's nothing famous about this restaurant. We went in for lunch and ordered a variety of menu items. All the items were extremely mediocre. The chicken quesadilla tasted like boil chicken with cheese and grilled to make a quesadilla, the shrimp and crab nachos had no taste whatsoever. The service we had was absolutely deplorable I had to ask multiple times for refills for every body in our party. The only thing this place has going for it is the incredible atmosphere and the pretty good bean dip and salsa.

My family loves this place! They consistently have GREAT FOOD and EXCELLENT SERVICE! We are extremely picky about our Mexican food (especially since I grew up on Tex-Mex) and we always have a great meal! And their staff is very accommodating to people in my party with food restrictions. We've also used them to cater gatherings and everything was just as delicious as in the restaurant. And we love the atmosphere of the new location!

Saw the sign and decided to stop. We had slow, inattentive service (even though the manager sat in the booth next to us the whole time talking to the waitstaff). The chips and dip were good;however, the cheese dip was bland. I had the chimichanga and it was very bland too. Definitely not a good experience.

The Best Margaritas! Seriously! They were voted the Best!

I went to Garcia's when it was located in Mandeville and always liked it, so when I learned shortly after I moved to Covington that and Garcia's was moving to Covington I was pretty excited. Honestly, the food isn't crazy-amazing-omg-delicious but I thought it was pretty damn good. I agree that the prices are well, pricey but I've always gotten good enough food to not mind. I've been to the one in Covington about 3 times, and I find when I walk in the hostesses are not very welcoming- no smiles, or strained ones. Seated quickly. Honestly, I go to Garcia's for their AMAZING queso ranchero (that stuff is addicting). My boyfriend doesn't particularly care for mexican food but he said he actually really enjoyed their enchiladas. Service from the wait staff is decent, and the food comes out pretty fast compared to other places.

Wish I could have rated it higher, but beef in fajitas was so stringy and tough had waiter take them back. Wife had turkey fajitas and they were good maybe a 3+ not a 4. Will go back one more time for I think they are trying - new restaurant in Bone Fish building.

Terrible food! Ordered the Tacos and got three ground beef tacos that could have come from Taco Bell except, the lettuce was limp, the tomatoes were tasteless, really small amount of cheese, and the ground beef had very little seasoning. Famous!? For what? Bad food?

They're still there after ~3 years? How is that possible? Maybe something changed. Nope! We were seated immediately and that was the one highlight of the experience! After our drinks and entree arrived we were ignored for the rest of the night. There was no check up. No offers for a refill. No questions about the quality of the food. When we finished our meal we were ready for the check, but our server vanished. We sat for 10-15 mins and it was only when another server noticed that we eventually got our check. As he walked away, I promptly put my card on the tray. We waited for another ~5mins. The same server who initially noticed us waiting apologized and brought back the bill. Seems like the service is hit or miss, because it wasn't a busy evening. The food? Sub-par. What you're really paying for is eating in a dining room environment. I can't speak about their "award winning" margaritas, but their "award winning" & "famous" food still looks and tastes like glorified taco bell. On the bright side, at least we weren't forced to listen to obnoxiously loud country music on this particular visit. I'll give this place at least another 3 years before I return - if it's still there.

We tried them a 2nd time and the got the steak fajita's-what a rip off! Way too little meat for what they charge! Very disappointing. We could have had a lot more food for the same amount of money at Outback

I had lunch at Garcia's and tried the Taco Salad (Fajita Style). It was great! The flavor of the meat was perfect and the crispy shell the salad came in was great. I also enjoyed the salsa and beans that are served with the chips. Highly recommended!

We have been going here since it opened and the service has gotten worse as time goes on. The food is not bad but don't get in a hurry. Gave it one more shot last night and won't be back.

I will be suprised to see this place last much longer. The "mexican" food is just okay. The service was completely unacceptable. One in my party ordered the "Mex and Match" 3 enchiladas, one each of three different types, but was served two identical and a third of choice. The server did not know what to do, because "you already ate from the plate". I do not know how one is to acsertian exactly what is inside an enchilada without first having disturbed it in some manner. I appologized for the possibility that we may have done something wrong or unacceptable in order to obtain the food that was ordered. The server returned later with the correct enchilada and added that "There is no extra charge". Great! We were not charged extra to get what was ordered. The server corrected one in our party's pronunciation of "Flauta" complete with translation. The server was very slow to provide the check. Three of the five in our party left the table to wait in the car before the check was provided. The last two of us waited again for the server to pick up the credit card and complete the transaction. We got up to ask somebody else to complete the purchase, but they pointed out the server was returning to wait on us. We returned to the table and provided the credit card to the server. The server returned a short additional wait only to stop 3 feet short of the table and toss the little tray with paperwork and credit card at the table. The credit card was face down with the words "CHECK ID" in the authorized signature field. My ID was not checked. I highly recommend trying any of the many other fine dining choices in the area before wasting time at this one.

Mediocre Mexican food at best. The top shelf margaritas were awful. The Garcia nachos with grilled chicken were okay. The service was friendly and attentive.

Food was delicious; service impeccable. Portions were large. Would recommend to anyone.

Garcia's may have moved to a fancier location, but they still do a very good job at putting out good, high quality food. For many years Garcia's was my go-to Mexican restaurant on the northshore. When they decided to move to the old Bonefish location, I was a little sad. I really liked the old place. Now that I have been, I wish I had checked it out sooner. If you had ever been to Bonefish, the layout is the same. There is a moderately sized bar area where you can dine, or just have drinks. If there is a wait, this would be the best place to sit. I visited on a weekend for lunch. There was no wait and service was prompt and friendly. Garcia's starts you off with a very good salsa and refried beans with your chips. The beans are a very nice addition that most restaurants don't provide. I highly recommend you also start with an order of their white queso. It is one of my favorite things to dip chips into. For my entree I ordered the steak fajitas. The steak was tender and had a great grilled taste. Even though I ordered from the lunch menu, the portion was very large. There were enough meat, vegetables and toppings for nearly four full tortillas full. One order would probably be enough for two people. I really like Garcia's. If you are looking for good Mexican food in a casual environment, I think you should give it a try.

I tried this place for the first time for lunch today. The salsa was really unique and very, very good. The bean dip was good, too. The chips were on point. I had a lunch combo that consisted of 1 shredded chicken taco, 1 pulled pork tamale, rice, and beans for $8...not a bad price for a lot of food! The taco was good, the tamale was okay. I find the tamale shell was too thick. The rice was excellent...extremely flavorful (which it seems is hard to find at restaurants). I will definitely be back!

I went with my family for the first time and we ordered 3 entrees and an appetizer to share. I've had Mexican food before but this was really not what I expected. Flautas were dry and over fried because they were really hard and not a good crunchy hard, beef tacos were just okay not a lot of flavor just simply bland, I love fish tacos but these were disgusting! They're dry and again no flavor and the tortilla tasted old and stale. The only good thing that came from this visit was the complimentary chips and dip. The chips were good and the salsa and bean dip were delicious. The service was good also.
