I went here to celebrate my anniversary and was glad that I did. We had the Soft Shell Crab and Trout. The chef knows her stuff! We also ordered fried oysters as an appetizer and were pleasantly surprised. The batter is not thick. You can taste the seafood. The sauce is perfectly seasoned and the pasta was al dente. What more can you ask for? Sue helped us in ordering and she is so nice! We will be back!!

We have been to this restaurant several times, and it's always a challenge trying to decide which dish to try next...haven't had a bad meal yet! My husband must have the mac and cheese (with red sauce) every time; he grew up eating Rocky & Carlo's mac and cheese, and says this is as close as it gets. Great family atmosphere: This place reminds him of the old New Orleans neighborhood restaurants where entire families gathered to eat. Recently got the shrimp and eggplant dressing, and it is exceptional!! The prices are beyond reasonable, the servings are huge (we always take enough left-overs home for another meal), service is quick, and the owners and staff are pleasant and friendly. Definitely recommend DiCristina's!

I like the place, but my husband is unimpressed, so I went with three stars. I really enjoy the red sauce--it's the heavy, New Orleans-style Italian that is difficult to find elsewhere. I ordered the chicken Parmasean and was very happy with my meal. Hubby ordered chicken and Spaghetti and was unimpressed--he felt it was under-seasoned. While I enjoyed the place, it is one of those places that has very reasonably priced entrees and then they end up killing you on the little things. Notably, the kid's menu was quite high. It was a lot of food, but really, kids don't need nearly that size of meal. I also thought five dollars for a side salad was high. Oh, and they sat us right by the bathroom despite having a half-empty dining room. Sigh. All in all, I might go back, but my husband won't. I guess we're still questing for the perfect Italian meal on the Northshore.

Love this place!! For those that are familiar with "Rocky & Carlos" in Chalmette, then you'll love the food here! It's delicious and you get a lot of food! Make sure, if your a Mac and cheese lover like me, not to pass it up! We will be visiting often!

Perfect for what we were looking for. Really nice people, kind of a hole in the wall which is what we were wanting. Went on a Friday night, pretty busy with large groups and good conversation, impressive since the restaurant is not too big! Always nice to be around good people and a nice atmosphere.

Pretty good Italian food for a pretty good price. For $11, I got their muffaletta salad, and not only was it delicious, but I had enough for 3 meals. A friend I was with got their chicken parmesan sandwich and some Mac 'n cheese and was also pleased. The place was packed for lunch when we went. Will return at some point I'm sure.

Went here over the Christmas Holiday with a large group. Very good Italian food here. Started off with the fried onion rings as an appetizer. Entrée was baked macaroni with the red gravy and Stuffed Bell Peppers. Some of the best stuffed bell peppers I've had. Due to slamming down too many cold beers I passed on dessert but the folks who were with us had no complaints about the desserts. Located across from the Courthouse in Covington. This place can get crowded on the weekends.

This place is truly awesome...GREAT food and fantastic service. In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that my little brother, Frank, and his wife Maria, are the owners along with her parents, Phillip and Josie. These people know how to cook and I can't get enough of their offerings. Po-boys, muffalettas, seafood, veal parmigiana...it's all great. Did I mention the sweet waitresses? Well, just don't piss 'em off!

Let me open this review by saying this: DiCristinas restaurant is the epitome of perfect Italian seafood in Louisiana. Living in Mandeville for awhile, I've seen very few places around that are worth it. So drive to covington and go to this place. In LA, for you out of state Yelpers, there all all sorts of influences on seafood. Italian seafood is a popular take in Southeast LA and has been for decades. A LOT of the old classic restaurants in New Orleans and surrounding areas have shut down or moved elsewhere. Some are still remaining. This is one of the few families running a great restaurant. Lets get to the food. The portions are huge and the prices are even better. I always get the onion rings as an apetizer. Now most people are picky with onion rings. These are onion strings but man they are outstanding. Also they are piled high. I also got an oyster poboy.......I get that everytime. It's the friggin bomb dot com people. The servers are awesome.....my favorite is Barbara (call her Barb)....best waitress you'll ever have. Guys could stand on my diatribes, because they're awesome, but you know what's more awesome, this restaurant! Check out the photos!

This was our 2nd visit, first time I was very impressed. This time we got poboy's-80% bread. Not worth what they charge at all. When my husband told the waitress the meat to bread ratio was bad she just said "oh" and asked if we want dessert!

Best chicken parm I've ever had. The red sauce would make anything taste good! Soft Shell Emily was awesome. I've never had anything I didn't like from here.

I would certainly agree with the other reviews that the staff is very friendly. You feel very at ease and they are very helpful in navigating the menu. The food was pretty good, with a huge dessert list. It is kind of laughable since the entrees are huge. We were happy with all of our dishes, and I would recommend going there if you like sweet red sauces. My dad and I got to indulge, since my mom never made the sweet stuff! Here's what we got: - Fried Oysters with Crawfish sauce - 5/5 - This was an excellent app. You get about 8 oysters, which are perfectly fried. Light batter, oysters still soft (not chewy) and topped with their crawfish sauce, which is a light cream based sauce (not heavy like an alfredo) but seasoned to taste completely different. - Soft Shell Crab Emily - 5/5 - Very good. It appears you can't go wrong with the crawfish sauce! The crab was huge and all the flavors blended together nicely. - Veal Parmesan - 4/5 - The meat was very well prepared, tender and flavorful. It is served over a bed of angel hair pasta and with their sweet red sauce. - Spaghetti and Meatballs - 3/5 - Meh. Standard stuff. Two large meatballs served over spaghetti and their sweet red sauce. The meat of the meatballs was more finely ground than other places, which was nice. My one complaint is that entrees don't come with salads and there really isn't too much to choose from that could be considered healthy. The only veggie dishes are fried (Eggplant Parm) and the seafood dishes are all fried as well. Other than that, all in all a great place to check out!

First time to post about this great neighborhood restaurant. Three of us each had the fried chicken and Mac and cheese. Nobody does it better. The chicken is like the Sunday chicken your Mom used to fry at home, if you are over 50. And the Mac and cheese, well it is out of this world and the portions are crazy generous. While waiting for the cooked to order chicken, we had the eggplant strips with red sauce for an appetizer and that should have been enough. We finished it off by sharing a banana cheese pudding dessert. Without a doubt the best place for comfort food on the Northshore. Maria, Frank, Ms. Rosalee, and Mr. Phillip have their act together. The staff is friendly and efficient too. Tell them LT sent you for the yard bird, sit down, enjoy a glass of iced tea, share an appetizer, and be patient. Bring yo momma and nem and pass a good time.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
