Very authentic food here. The location does not do it justice, but worth the find. Inside the shopping strip plaza next to Rouse's Supermarket at Claiborne Hill. Quick service, and these guys are attentive, even to the large tables. Kudos.

Best Italian food in southern Lousiana. Period. You cannot go wrong here. The attention to the flavor profiles in every dish is so rare that I was almost overwhlemed at the thought that went into everything. I eat out quite frequently and I must say in all seriousness that you should not pass up the opportunity to eat here. Get one of their pastas (I had the torn pasta with lamb) and don't miss the tirimisu. Worried about driving back across the causeway after dinner? Just stay nearby at the Camelia House B&B and make it a special weekend.

If you are even considering this place for a dining experience, DO IT!!! My boyfriend and I went for our 3 year anniversary while in town from New Orleans staying on a nearby farm. I'm glad we did. The bartenders were clearly knowledgeable about their craft! The food was simply divine. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our anniversary was both special and impressive, including the manager. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven't yet had the chance. Make it a priority!

My biggest beef with del Porto has always been the cheap hard armless chairs couldn't wait to get out of there. If you're going to charge $30 to $40 entrees spend a little bit on comfort.

Came here with my husband for Valentine's Day. We enjoyed the romantic atmosphere of dim lighting and the not-too-loud hum of dinner conversation. The staff was incredibly polite, maybe a little interruptive at times during interesting conversation (not a deal breaker). We had the antipasto appetizer (shareable portions) over drinks, with the perfect amount of time spaced between courses. Our busy lives don't always afford us the time to sit and really connect. I'm so thankful we were able to not only eat at Del Porto but also have a delightful experience. The seared scallops was delicious and fulfilling without over doing it. My only complaint is the chairs. If you have any sort of back or hip condition, the chairs will probably not allow you to stay for a long, well-enjoyed meal.

This is one of the better restaurants on the Northshore, however I can't give it 5 stars due to the very limited menu selections. Everything I've gotten here has been good, however if you are with a picky eater they may have trouble finding something on the menu. The menu also changes seasonally. So if there is something on there you really like when you go back chances are it won't be available. Almost all the ingredients they use are local, so that's a plus. And they have great fruit martinis. The tiramisu dessert is amazing, as is the almond cheesecake. Service is okay. Not bad, but not the best I've ever experienced, either. for the price (about $50 per person) I'd expect top notch, spot on service. I can't really single out anything to complain about in terms of service, but you don't leave thinking - wow, that service was amazing. The restaurant itself is very nice on the inside. Definitely a great place for a romantic dinner or for special occasions. Wouldn't try to go there in the evening without a reservation as they do fill up after 7.

My wife and I ate here for lunch. The food is wonderful, and they use local ingredients in some dishes. My wife ordered mushroom risotto, and it was cooked perfectly. "Out of this world" is how she described it. I had an interesting combination of fish, pumpkin, spinach, and hazelnut, and it was uite good. The portion size is just right to satisfy you. The atmosphere was casual and comfortable with light jazz playing in the background. If you're looking for a quick lunch, go someplace else as the atmosphere is quite laid back. If you're looking for a cheap lunch, go someplace else. Del Porto can be pricey. Overall, we were quite satisfied with Del Porto although we will probably save this restaurant for dinners due to the price.

We came across this place while on the northshore shopping (we live in New Orleans). A store owner told us that was his favorite place in town so we decided to drop in (starving) before returning to New Orleans. And thank goodness we did. We were both in love with the place and can't wait to have a "reason" to go back across the lake to again. We had the fried polenta and this artichoke purée hummus type stuff to start. Both super delicious. For entree I had the duck Ragu and it was so amazing it almost melts in your mouth. Everything I tried that night was SO full of flavor and truly cooked to perfection. My boyfriend (who is a chef and incredibly picky) and I were both wishing we lived closer. The only complaint I am give was that our server's wine knowledge could have been a little better. But that obviously won't deter us from coming back. We will be back!

We are locals and absolutely love this restaurant...it's probably the best on the Northshore. We go a lot and I always enjoy whatever their in-season fresh martinis are. Just had the peach, and it was to die for!!!! SO DELICIOUS! My favorite appetizer is the tuna crudo, but pretty much everything on their menu is delicious. Mussels are great, steak, pork chop, and another fav is the short rib lasagna! Happy hour is great with a different menu and drink specials. If you haven't yet dined here, what are you waiting for?!?!?

Simply the best - we were in town for the Wooden Boat Show and decided on Del Porto for our anniversary last Friday after hearing and reading so many great things about it. Chef's David and Torre and their staff could not have been more gracious and hospitable. David took the time to explain the menu selections to us, providing information about the ingredients and where they came from. Although we are from out of town and on our first visit, they truly made us feel like our special night was special to them as well. From the fresh squeezed in-season pear martini made by our delightful bartender Melissa, the local farm chicken pate', the Insalata Caprese (with house made mozzarella), the evening's featured wine, to the excellent pasta's and duck - all were superb, as was the service provided by our server, Rachel. We have been to many of the finer restaurants in the NOLA area and have found none better for the all-around experience and the quality of the food. Del Porto deserves it's ranking as the top Italian restaurant in the NOLA area with it's creative dishes and fresh farm/garden to table sensibilities. We can't wait to go back.

They're open for lunch on Saturdays now! They've sometimes opened for lunch on Saturdays if there was something like the Three Rivers Art Festival or something going on but now I see they are open for lunch every Saturday. This is good news. The place is pricey but worth it and you can eat there is such a way that you don't break the bank too badly. My mother and I will split a pannini and appetizer at lunch. The last time, we had the most wonderful mussels for an appetizer. The portion was quite generous. We also each had two of the fresh-fruit-muddled martinis (I had pear, Mom had satsuma) and they weren't on happy hour special, so that did raise our bill but were obviously weren't complaining. Funnily enough, this was during the Three Rivers, when Del Porto would've been opened for lunch anyway. When I'm on day hours next week, I'll have to do happy hour.

Delicious Del Porto Covington may be across Lake Pontchartrain from the Big Easy. But it does a fine job of keeping up in the food department. Del Porto is right downtown, in an old building nicely renovated. The service staff were very professional and pleasant. The cocktails and food were, across the menu, delicious. Being in the shadow of New Orleans doesn't mean that the food has to suffer.

Located in historic downtown Covington, Del Porto is very good. This was an attractive, hip restaurant. We were seated immediately by a very friendly host and that quality service extended through our meal. Everyone who we encountered were professional and provided great service. We started with beef carpaccio. Never having eaten raw beef, I was skeptical. It was amazingly thin slices of raw beef with lettuce, sauce and crustini bread. Together it was a unique, but very tasty bite. Our next course was salad. Each of our salads had amazingly fresh greens and homemade dressing. They were also very good. For entrees we had the fish special and the steak. The steak was my entree and it was one of the best steaks I have had. The "painted hills" New York strip was cooked perfectly with crispy potatoes and was truly amazing. This is one of the best restaurants on the Northshore. I highly recommend it. One interesting thing I noticed is the bar scene. The bar was crowded with women who were just having drinks. This would probably be a great place to get a drink if you're a single guy.

Based in Yelp reviews I chose this restaurant for my Mom's recent birthday. Our meal was fantastic and definitely worth driving across the lake for! Unfortunately our server was a (nice) space cadet and messed up our appetizer order. Thankfully the food saved the day and made up for the additional wait (and we were able to catch a glimpse of their shrimp app--which looked good)! I believe their menu is seasonal but if you see the mushroom salad on there, try it (and a similar, if not exact, recipe is on foodandwine.com under mushroom vinaigrette hint hint)!! The pork chop is HUGE and the tuna pasta was delicious! Decent wine list too!

After years of dining at Del Porto and other restaurants in the area, I would have to say Del Porto is by far the best restaurant on the north shore. I especially like that everything always tastes as though it's been made from the freshest of ingredients. We have never been disappointed. Another plus is that this is probably the only fine dining restaurant on the north shore that accommodates late diners.

Nightmare experience! Went there for dinner last night..waitress took our order. An hour later we still didn't have our food, so we asked what was taking so long and she says did y'all decide what y'all are ordering yet? Are you kidding me? We ordered over an hour ago. Apparently she forgot to put in our order and lied and said umm well my computer must have erased your order so dinner will be on me. Ordered the risotto and duck lasagna.. Waited 30 more minutes for our food and the risotto was way undercooked and the duck lasagna was basically noodles and cheese and hard as a rock. We both took one bite of our food and left. The service was terrible as well..our waitress never really checked on us and would flee before we could tell her anything. She only checked on us like twice..once to take our order and the next time when we told her we ordered over an hour ago. Usually a manager comes out and apologizes when this happens, but nobody did anything. Very disappointing and unprofessional because I was looking forward to eating there. The fresh fruit martinis were the only good part of the experience.

This is an excellent restuarant - a real gem. The food is creative and delicious - presentation is excellent. Located in the old part of Covington but has a fresh cosmopolitan interior design. The service is typically top notch and quite accomodating. The wine list is generally reasonable and appropriate. Overall it is a wonderful dining experience. It is on the expensive side, but worth it. Certainly suitable for a special occasion or a memorable evening.

I did not enjoy my experience at all. My wife and I are local residents. we've passed by several times and decided to check it out. The service was poor, we were one of four tables when we sat down at 6pm. Staff everywhere by one server was doing all 4 tables. As more people came in more servers were allocated. Thank goodness the young guys that brought bread and cleared plates came around often, they were our waiter so to speak. I had the lobster cannelloni, bland, no taste. $24 for a small serving. Wife got something that had a portion size for a 4 year old. Salad was good though! In summary I've had much better food for a lot less, with better service. I've eaten in upscale places several times before, but this place seems to try to be a fine dining establishment without the quality or service which is so important. The prices are the only thing that lets you know it is suppose to be upscale dining.

Disappointing performance. I have tried to like this establishment because everyone raves about it so, but every time I have gone it has just been "okay". Issues with the bar on more than one occasion. Sometimes the limited menu works against those who don't eat fish. And on my last visit, it all went south. Took forever to get a server to our table...actually had to flag down a kid cleaning an adjacent table after about 7 minutes of sitting there. The server did not introduce themselves or smile, took our order and there we waited, and waited; bar took forever, and the server had to come back to verify that we ordered an appetizer. We had. Did not give a positive vibe to the evening. Hubby's "Dirty" Martini arrived crystal clear. My signature drink from their menu was undrinkable. The server did not check back with us, but the hostess was flagged down and eventually I got a different drink after appetizer already finished. So we ordered the gnocchi to share while I had my drink. (highlight of evening...very good and fluffy). Our server disappeared completely and the new server was much better. But the final straw, and the reason for the 2 star review, was my husbands over-salted entree. He found it hard to eat his main course, the special of the evening. Mine was decent, but I found it hard to justify driving from Mandeville for the experience, much less across the Lake.

Still an amazing restaurant. I really like the ambiance. Attention to lighting and music complement an already attractive dining room. I didn't mention how good the cocktails are in my first review. This was a grievous oversight. Layers of complexity plus integration... like magic. A few more words on the food: I keep thinking, "how can it be this good... I thought I knew how good food can be... this is better."

Let me first say that I've never had a bad meal or lunch at Del Porto. The food is as good as it gets if you like Italian (more on the rustic Italian side). Just about everything on the menu is local (vegetables, fruits, meats) and what makes Del Porto shine is that the menu is constantly changing to adjust to the seasonality and availability of local ingredients. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is that as of late the service has been off. While the staff is quite knowledeable of the menu, they seem to have lapses in checking in to make sure water glasses/drinks are not empty or it takes a bit too long to get your first drink order in. I have also heard of similar situations with other frequent diners who have experienced this as well. It's not to the point where it is a knockout factor for not eating here by any means, it just keeps me from giving it a 5 star rating. If they can fix this issue, it's a 5 star establishment again for me! Follow up here, the service is back up to snuff! This place rocks.

I am a local and ate here for the first time this past Tuesday with two girlfriends. The food was truly scrumptious. I had the white bean puree with grilled bread as appetizer. That could have been my whole meal! One friend had the lentil soup which she enjoyed and another had the roasted beets with fresh mozzarella salad- also divine. They both had short ribs which they enjoyed. As a veggie, I had the night's special risotto (a side order) which was carrot risotto. Kind of different but perfectly made and sweet and savory at the same time. Very yummy and comforting on a damp chilly night. I also had the wild mushroom, baby spinach and ricotta salata salad which was oh so good. Kind of salty in a I was craving it the next day way. The dessert list was impressive. We wanted just a bite of something so we shared a very nice pannecotta with raspberry sauce. Ok, so if I had such a great meal why only three stars? The service was awful. Hopefully this was just one night. The hostess stood right in front of us taking a phone reservation and didn't even acknowledge us until she was off the phone. We had to wait way too long for attention from our waitress. The kitchen had the food out in an appropriate amount of time, it was the waitress who did not check on us, clear the plates, take dessert order etc. that was the problem. So... I might go if someone else wants to but it wont be on the top of my list for "nice" places to go. Also, not terribly vegetarian friendly.

Picked out this place due to the Moon guidebook to New Orleans. Had been on a swamp tour at Honey Island and decided to eat on the North Shore since it was a Saturday. Located in the old part of Covington and I think it recently moved to this new location. We had carpaccio and a rocket (arugula) salad which were fantastic. Then hubbie had the scallops with mushrooms which he said were the best he'd ever had. I had 2 big pork and fennel sausages with mash. Delicious. Only managed to squeeze in a gorgeous satsuma sorbet for dessert. Very good service, nice ambiance and I think we were the only tourists.
