This place is fantastic! We discovered it on a cross-country trip, and decided to stop in. The food was authentic and delicious, and the portions were very generous. Best of all, the service was outstanding. Our server Taylor provided several suggestions that that were spot-on; she was prompt and friendly; she went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. We will be back! If you go, ask for Taylor. She'll make cheerfully make sure you have a great dining experience.

Easy parking, decent decor and really wonderful food. Some of the staff can be a bit gruff, but not rude. I have yet to eat something here that I didn't absolutely love. Extra tip--order the hummus appetizer "to go" when you leave and mix a couple of generous spoonfuls into the meat the next time you make hamburgers. SO much yummy zazz! Best burgers EVER.

This place is really on my list of food fetishes that I gotta get out of my system at least once every few months. I come and get the meal for two. It comes with everything and more you could ever want (for only $24). And it could feed way more than two people! I always make a habit of boxing the rest and taking it home so I can eat off of it for another day or two. It's a great place and despite being byob I really don't mind because I just stop at Breaux Mart and pick up a bottle of wine to share while I'm there. I love that they play this Middle Eastern music video channel on the televisions there. I think the music is fun and it's interesting to watch how different the videos are from what comes on our typical media stations. Apparently their music videos are way cooler and prettier than ours :-)

I am not of fan of this cuisine. However I have never had a bad meal here. I am taken to lunch by many business friends and one guy always takes me here. The service is usually good. The ambiance is good. My lunch friend always explains to me what we are eating and I am slowly learning about Mediterranean dishes. I will be glad to return

Food here is amazing. The chicken in the chicken shawarma is delicious and well-seasoned, not to mention the amazing hummus. Service is not lightening fast, but is well worth the wait! Took friends here from out of town the other day and they were blown away. Yum yum!

*Sigh* Slidell used to have an amazing Mediterranean/Greek restaurant that was in a really dinky convince store. The chicken schwarma was to die for tender and juicy and the hummus was 'let me pick my self up off of the floor' good. Unfortunately, these master chefs of the best Mediterranean food I could get in my area turned out to be criminals and crooks and were put out of business (and I might add, the country.) I'm all for fighting crime but damn! I missed that food. Passing Alabasha in nearby Covington woke up that Mediterranean craving in me again and I pulled in to try it out. First things first. If you're a woman entering alone, get ready. The guys who work here stare all creepy like at you. Not smiling at you like "hey baby what's up?" Leering at you like "how in the hell did you get out of the house?" Just a heads up. The portions are HUGE here. I got a Mediterranean hummus appetizer and the chicken schwarma combo plate. The hummus was amazing. Really, really great. The chicken schwarma was tender and juicy although I felt it could have used more spice. All in all, it was really good and enough for at least three meals. Because of that and my craving for hummus, I'll be back for sure. *narrows eyes at guys working here* I'm not scared of you guys. Especially when it comes to getting my hummus fix.

So glad this is closer to home than having to go to Baton Rouge. A great fast lunch spot. Gyro sandwich was great!!

Consistently good food. Albasha's is more Lebanese than Greek but very good all the same. I have been eating at Albasha for over 20 years and I have to say they are one of the most consistent restaurants around. They are all located in strip malls and pretty consistent with their casual décor at all of the locations. The N Hwy 190 location is no exception when it comes to the amount and quality of food served. The shrimp spinach salad and shrimp kabobs are amazing and satisfies the Cajun in me every time. The eggplant mousaka and baba ganoush have always been favorites as well as the Lamb shank which literally melts in your mouth and the chicken and gyros. Cabbage rolls and grape leaves are moist and seasoned with just the right amount of seasoning. Kibbis are always seasoned and love the additional pine nuts. The Albasha platter (we always opt for the chicken and gyro) is the perfect size for two people and offers a varied choice of sides. The mezza for two will feed my family of 4 and we are all very satisfied with our options and substitutions can be made to any of the menu items. They also offer vegetarian platter with lots of veggie options so you can create your own plate. The Lebanese tea is delish and we always drink more than our $2 dollars worth.

Love Albasha! Service is generally good but can be hit or miss. Food is always spot on. Wine list leaves a bit to be desired. Lebanese Tea no longer has pine nuts. Apparently they are very pricey because we were told they did away with them because of price. ?? If you don't want to freeze, don't sit in the bar area.

Hands down - the BEST Greek/Mediterranean restaurant in town! Chicken Schwarma (however you spell it) salad is amazing - I get it every time I go - which is quite frequently - and it's always good!

Yum. This place rocks. The eggplant mussaka is TO DIE FOR!!! I got the veg plate for $12.50 and it lasted for 2 meals. I will stop here every time I am town. Plate: tabboule, falafel, hummus, baba ghanouj, eggplant mussaka, salad (no cheese) and whole wheat pita...and hot sauce.

I've been here a couple times now and love the gyros. I was surprised at how fast I got my food right in the middle of lunch. Holly, my server, was very friendly as well. I'll be back.

Great service. Delicious food. The Mediterranean Hummus was awesome! We got the combination gyro and chicken shwarma plate which was excellent. We will be back!

I've been here several times, both to the Hammond and Covington locations. It is very nice to have good Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food on the Northshore. I went on Sunday for lunch with my sister-in-law and little nephew. I am a fool for falafel and had a falafel sandwich with fries. It was yummy and the iced tea is Community iced tea, brewed strong (this is a good thing). They only have the pink stuff and sugar, at least judging by my table, so bring your own yellow stuff. My sister-in-law had a gyro with a salad and hummus on the side, which she liked. The nephew ate some hummus and pita and enjoyed the fountains. They have one pretty fountain inside and one in an outside seating area. I will have to try the outside seating sometime after September.

Albasha is the best Mediterranean restaurant on the Northshore. I have been here numerous times, and every time was great. Their hummus is among the best I have had. My favorite entree is the combination chicken schwarma and gyro plate. It comes with even more hummus, a salad, rice and a good sized portion of chicken and gyro. The meat is perfectly seasoned, tender and tastes incredible. I'm not a fan of tea, but my dining companion loves their Lebanese tea. Service is adequate, but the food is where Albasha really shines. If you have kids, Albasha does have non-mediterranean food available.

We eat here a couple of times a month. Best Mediterranean food locally. Gyros are awesome. Veggie plate has lots of options to pick from. They are always willing to make substitutions. Service always quick and efficient.

Worst middle eastern food ever. Anyone who traveled outside Covington can compare...nothing even close to middle eastern...very disappointed :-( waste of money...try kasra in Houston...

I am a regular at the Hammond location so I was surprised by the lack of service at this location. Food was just as good but we waited nearly an hour for our lunch. Our waiter was unattentive, we flagged down two others during our wait...we were given excuse after excuse (one being fish takes over 30 mins to cook). Finally one waiter basically admitted they got busy and forgot to put one of our dishes in...still no one said "sorry". The worst part - THIS was the ONE place my mother wanted to go for her 70th birthday lunch - I was so embarrassed and upset. Big disconnect between kitchen and wait staff.

My two kids and I had an appetizer, two drinks, a giant meal and an extra side item for $20! Where else can you feed 3 people and have a box of leftovers for such a price? The quality and service are great and I will be back again and again.

I've been a regular at Albasha bouncing between the Hammond and Covington locations. While I've tried a great deal of the menu, I find myself getting the combination Chicken Shawarma and Gyro plate. The flavors are consistent and the portions are huge. On the down side, the service may be slipping slightly. I see the owners there constantly, but the last few times I've been there, the tables have been sticky (that kind of bugs me out) and the wait staff could be more engaging (I don't need a hug, but a smile and "how are you tonight" would be nice). Also, they have stopped adding pine nuts to the Lebanese iced tea. When I asked, I was told they are too expensive. I guess I can bring me own next time. on the UP side, if you ask, the owner will change the TV stations from CNN (ugh, really? News in the dining room?) to Middle Eastern MTV. The videos are amazing. Beautiful hot babes loving on big, sweaty hairy dudes with lots of necklaces! WINNING! All in all, it's a well run group with a tasty, reliable product.

Having grown up mostly eating Mediterranean food from the likes of Byblos and Mona's on the south shore, this place just doesn't do it for me. I've tried it a few times and it is hard to put my finger on exactly what I don't love but it kind of seems watered-down, if that makes any sense. Maybe less authentic than I expect. It's not terrible and in a pinch if I'm really craving falafel then I'll pick it up but I'm never quite satisfied. I will give them props though for even having an ethnic food restaurant on the north shore because that is something that is lacking, in my opinion.

Best gyro I've ever had! I used to get the chicken gyro because I didn't think I would like the lamb. I decided to give the lambe gyro a try and it's absolutely delicious. You really have to give it a try. I also think their fries are some of the best I have ever had.

We go here all the time. Park in front. Walk right in. Order the chicken/gyros combo plate. Scarf down in 10 minutes. Pay and leave. Love this place! Never a complaint.

Albasha is one of the places that I crave from time to time. I love Greek food, and the gyro plate is really quite good. The service is always excellent, another big draw. It's inexpensive, and the portion sizes are nice. I would definitely recommend Albasha.

Maybe better than 3 stars, definitely better than OK. Been a couple of times and really enjoyed. Wonderful gyros. Had the Gyro platter once but the gyro sandwich was plenty and the kids gyro plate is more than sufficient. Prices are reasonable. Good Lebanese Iced Tea (personally would like it with pine nuts but that's not a knock at what i had). I will give a more detailed review when we've been a few more times and tried more items on the menu. One menu suggestion I would like to see is a sampler appetizer of a variety of items. There are platters for two or three but that was a bit more than we were looking for in a sampler appetizer. We went with 2 kids (2 1/2 and 1). We had no problems with the kids from restaurant and the 2yp like gyros and the 1yo is happy with a chuck of bread. We also went early, better for kids and for the later crowd. We will definitely be going back.

While I lived in Baton Rouge I became incredibly familiar the wonderful food at Albasha. Now that I live in New Orleans I will drive across the lake to Covington just for the Lebanese tea and gyro at Albasha. Heck, I even eat their chicken schwarma... and I HATE chicken. Their food is that good. Oh, and their hummus. Oh my... and the tzatziki sauce, or the tiramisu, the grape leaves, the falafel, kofta... Everything is good at Albasha. I wish they had one on the south shore because driving across the lake is a pain (but still worth it).

Happen to be on the northshore the land of chain places. Lol. Well I was craving a nice Greek place. Ohhhhh no I thought...not going to find one out here. But to my surprise I found this little gem. Was here for lunch and it was a little packed but I was by myself so I set up at the bar. Bartender was quick to greet and get my drink order. Orderes the steak and chicken swarma plates. Came in a flash. It was very tasty came. with hummus, rice, and a salad and of course flat bread both the chicken and steak where cooked and seasoned very well. Hummus was creamy and not to overpowering and dry. Overall this place is a find on the north shore. I would recommend and I will.be back.

Best we have locally, but much better options in baton rouge. Food is always fresh. Service adequate but not great.

Have always enjoyed Mediterranean food, used to visit the one close to where I lived. I usually have the gyro place off of the lunch menu but decided to try the lamb kebab, I make my own shish kebab so I was looking forward to this. I am afraid that this meal had a very strong taste of liver, which I really dislike. I know this business is frequented by local businessmen but it is beginning to feel like a conveyor belt. Think it will be a while before I have a repeat visit.

Food here is consistently good. Have never had a bad meal here and have been here maybe 15 - 20 times. Only complaint I have is that the menu never seems to change. First time I dined at an Albasha Restaurant was in Baton Rouge about 8 - 10 years ago and the menu was the same then as it is now. Fried Kibbi as an appetizer is always good and the Chicken Shawarma is an excellent choice as an entrée. Service is always good.

Gyros are the main reason we do Greek. Theirs needs more cucumber sauce, red onions & tomato. Had a TON of meat on them. Was juicy and tasted like a typical gyro, which I like (minus adequate sauce, etc.).

The food at Albasha is more Middle Eastern than Greek as classified. The mousaka is AWESOME. The best tabouhli. It is hard to find lamb in Louisiana and their lamb shanks are excellent.

  • Michael B.

I'm not an expert on Greek or Mediterranean food, but I really enjoy dining at Albasha. My favorite is the Combination Chicken Shawarma And Gyros Plate. And we always get the Fried Cheese for an appetizer. Usually end up taking part of the meal home.

I'm giving this place three stars because the restaurant itself was very pretty and clean on the inside and the owner was very nice and had checked on us a few times because our server would just disappear during our meal. But in my opinion the food tasted like cafeteria style Mediterranean food. We ordered the stuffed grape leaves appetizer and it was really dry, I had to dowse it in Lebna sauce . For dinner I had the chicken shawarma plate which was a huge portion and served with the salad on the same plate...The chicken was on the dry side as well and not very savory. The rice was mushy with no flavoring it tasted like nothing actually but on occasion I would bite into a pine nut. I love Greek and Lebanese food. I grew up with Greek friends and ate at their houses often growing up. I even ate myself silly for a week in Greece and this was just not authentic or flavorful. Even though what I ordered was more on the Middle Eastern side rather then being Greek food I still know what good shawarna is. Maybe it was a bad time since it was late in the afternoon in between shifts.
