Quality has gone down over the years, but still good. Back in the late 90's my family would take the 1.5 hour ride toe the House of Seafood Buffet. The whole way there we would hear our stomachs growl anticipating the endless seafood we were about to devour. Its been nearly 14 years since the last time i was here. For weeks i looked forward to bringing my wife here since my friends and i talked about it often. We got there early and lucked out with a front parking spot. Didn't take long to be seated, or benched depending on what type of table they seated you. It smelled so great as we walked to our table, It felt like they tried to cram as many tables as possible, You bumped into someone every move you made. The food was plentiful, but most was mediocre. The fried shrimp was really freaking good, and so was the boiled shrimp. They gave us trash buckets, and at first i thought it was for shells but it was for the food you didn't care for and wanted to toss out. Many things were either really good or bla, many things also didn't have a label so you didn't know what it was till you started eating it. The floors could have been cleaner, it was slippery and dirty, i understand its a buffet restaurant but they could have tried harder. I thought it was cool how some guy comes out with a radio to tell the kitchen was they needed more of. It ended being about $33 a person with tip. It was ok, and nearly worth the money, but that and the long drive will make it a long time before we come back. If we were in the area again and craving seafood we might go back. I heard you can go during the week, but its by appointment only. Tip get there early so you don't wait in a long line and park easier.

The food was ok but not worth the money. Walked out needing to shower cause it felt so grimy.

It's been over a decade since I visited this mecca of cajun buffets in the sticks well beyond the causeway. Still my favorite buffet I've been too, and I live in the home of buffets in Vegas. Hope to return someday, but I'll have to look up old LA local friends to help me find it. If this place was right next door to the Bellagio's world reknowned buffet, I'd choose House of Seafood probably 3 out of 4 times.

This is a great seafood house, but it's more than seafood. They have rabbit, alligator, quail on the buffet. This is real down home cooking. There is just about any seafood you can think of on this buffet. All I can tell you is come hungry. Now don't come here looking for fancy dinning, this is a country restaurant / buffet , but a very good one. People drive all the way from New Orleans and the Mississippi gulf coast to eat here. If you have never been there, try it, it's a bit of a drive but well worth the time. Enjoy & Good eating. Randy from Slidell,La.

Bang for your buck!! One of the best tasting and largest seafood buffets I've been too. Only drawback is a long drive there and an even longer drive back!

Very similar to the Chinese buffets you find everywhere. But this was strictly a back-road Louisana seafood buffet located in the sticks. Good experience though. =) Big parking lot (we actually parked right next to the entrance..they knew we were coming!). It was pack and they sat us in Reagan's section. All I gotta say was she was one CUTE waitress that provided awesome service even in a buffet atmosphere. If you go, as to be seated in her section. She was that cool! Too bad she lives all the way out in BUSH, LA. The food was ok. Lots of fried seafood (Southern fav)...lots of crawfish (they were small though), lots of blue crab, shrimp shrimp shrimp, snow crab legs, GATOR, BOUDIN sausages, frog-legs, oysters, etc. They even had SWEET TEA!!! The restaurant was a big dirty though. NOT OK! I WOULD go back to this place if I was in NOLA again. That drive over the lake was cool too...26 miles each way. So almost an hour to get there from the city. Just make sure you don't get lost, or you might find yourself in NO WHERE, LA.

It's a bit of a long drive from NOLA, but that is probably a good thing. Otherwise I might be tempted to come back more often. The boiled seafood was very well cooked and a huge variety of all seafood. Even though I tried to eat only a little of each thing, I was completely stuffed before I could try it all. My highlights were the boiled crawfish, gumbo, crab legs (they even had a crock pot of melted butter for dipping) and stuffed shrimp. Only things that I was not impressed with was the crabmeat au gratin (too salty) and the boudin. Aside from that, there were TONS of great options, and all of us (in our party of 6) left stuffed. I also like that there was a lady discretely walking around with a microphone telling the crew in the back about the things they were running low on, so the buffet stayed stocked up. Overall 5 stars! Now excuse me while I find a place to nap, so I can pull out of this food coma.

This very popular seafood buffet, located just north of Covington, is a good choice for those wanting to indulge in a ridiculous amount of very cheap seafood - particularly the snow crabs, prawns, and crawfish. I'm not a big fan of deep fried fish (this is the south, so there's a lot of it), but all the shellfish choices were excellent. At the low price of $17.95 plus t&t or $7.95 for the non-seafood buffet, this is a great place to indulge at :). Service at the House of Seafood is second to none - you'll get true southern hospitality here. The waitress came to our table, asked us whether we'd eaten crawfish before, then came back with a big bowl of them and proceeded to show us how it was done. This restaurant is only open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The best day to go is Thursday because it's not as crowded, and the seafood is at its freshest. Friday and Saturday it's packed, so it's worth making reservations. My favorite dishes from the night: crawfish, marinated shrimp, snow crabs, and stuffed oysters. Be warned: most of the shellfish is actually quite spicy!

You've got to take most of these comments with a grain of salt. This place is no snotty Metairie or Mandeville hob-nob type place. Because this place is way out in the country , you should expect it to BE COUNTRY, i.e.: an older building , wood interior , gravel parking lot , wooden tables . The food is fantastic , it's a seafood dream !!!the wait staff if super friendly younger crowd either highschool girls or career older waitresses. Polite in that country style way . It is places like this tucked away out in the middle of nowhere still making that good home cooked style food. If you don't recognize what is on the buffet , chances are it's pretty damn good! If you don't like this place , truly you should probably head back to your Applebee's or Outback Steakhouse because this is how Louisiana seafood should be.

My family and I have been going to the House of Seafood off and on for years. Even as the prices have gone up we've continued to go and enjoy the food. Today, we went there and we were eating when my brother found a spider in his dessert. Obviously, that's not cool. We told the waitress who then told her manager. He sent her back to our table and said to her "since it was found at the end of the meal he wasn't going to do anything about it." We were very surprised. 1. Because he sent this young girl to say the bad news (which could potentially affect her tip) 2. He didn't even give us the time of day to approach the table. One of my family members calmly confronted him calmly as he continued to say "because it was at the end of the meal it must have crawled in after he wasn't going to comp anything." Then my family member told him that "there aren't supposed to be any bugs at anytime of the meal." Then he said "what should I do?" And we said "something." He ended up discounting $8. He should have just comped the whole meal. Giving my brother a free meal would have prevented this post. This post is actually for his benefit. A $30 loss could have prevented the bad press buddy.

This place has every piece of seafood you can imagine ...crab legs, crawfish, shrimp 5 different ways, raw oysters, catfish, crabs,... Everything..chicken any way you want it.. Frog legs, alligator.. And all the sides and fixings you would want to come with it. Its a hefty 25$ a person but if you go to just eat seafood, you get more than your moneys worth! I basically go for the oysters, shrimp, and frog legs! Delicious!! This place us always packed. The only thing, is they really really really need to work on the cleanliness of the bathrooms.. Its pretty bad. I know the place is old but it could be better as far as being clean. Overall, great place.. Just pee before you go!

Went to this place over the weekend, and it was like a camp ground cafeteria. It said "buffet $17.95, but out bill came to $53 and my wife drank water. The decor was interesting. Crab nets here and there with a brass framed poster sized photo of a baby -- I guess the owner must be proud. The raw oysters were dime sized, the desserts were ok, but anything worth eating was loaded with cayenne pepper or loads of salt. At the end of the night (after all the Harley riders left). The cook/manager/owner came out and barked at the obviously exhausted waitresses. Well, did you clean that. And "well" did you clean that. He looked like he was wearing one of those dew rags, and was going to have triplets any day. As for the bathrooms-- well they forgot to turn on the a/c that day, going into the bathrooms was a tilt open window "la femme Nikita" couldn't get out of, and it was as hotter than a campground. I feel sorry for the women. Men only take 30 seconds. Everybody's husband or wife was staring at somebody else's husband or wife. Overall, aside from the king crab legs, it was creepy... Whoever said this place was better than all the gulf coast casino's because he had visited them all lived around the corner. Mississippi oysters are not the best, but eating a triple battered oyster only to need a magnifying glass to see the oyster is funky. The next day I went to work and telling my helper about the "house of seafood". He replied "you know of the many people that have gone there, I have NEVER heard anything good....."

We finally made the trek across the lake and out into the rural area for the House of Seafood. After hearing stores of how magnificent the place was supposed to be, we were a bit disappointed. The place is kind of rundown and old. The seating consists of wood picnic benches. I guess they don't want you to get too comfortable and stay too long. The food is served from one very long table area. Much of the food really didn't look all that appealing. Some of it was labeled, but most of it was not. So, many items were a mystery. I mostly stuck to what I actually recognized. The boiled crawfish and shrimp were good. I also liked these fried things called Gator Balls. They tasted mostly like crab to me. Oddly no one else at my table cared for them. The pecan pie was downright nasty. I could not even eat it and wondered what it was made from. Overall, I don't think we will be making the long trip back too soon.

I haven't been there in over a year, and use to go ALL the time. The boiled items were all over boiled and stuck to the shells. I went primarily for the boiled seafood, and could not enjoy it. And once we went about an hour before closing time and the bar was practically empty. We were told whatever we wanted to let our waitress know and she'll get it from the back. We did that and it took about 10 minutes to get an item after we requested them. I feel that a bar should be as fresh and available an hour before closing as it is an hour after opening. They don't give a discount for eating late!!.... Still pay regular price, so the food should be as it "regularly" is. I miss the way it once was.... So sad.
