Second time to make the drive to Boyce and worth.the drive. Creative and delicious dishes. Menu changes regularly and everything we have tried has been good. Beautiful presentation of dishes.

NOT INFANT FRIENDLY! 1. The food is incredible. It's not cheap, it's well worth the price! Quality and quantity!!!! 2. The specialty drinks are awesome! Amazing blends of flavors! 3. The table by the bar, furthest from the door doesn't get much A/C. 4. While I don't believe babies are designed to stay in infant carriers 24/7, they serve a purpose. Janohns is like the only restaurant in America without infant carrier compatible high chairs....they only have high chairs for bigger babies/toddlers. 5. Also, no place to change a baby. Thus, you have to resort to the back seat of your vehicle. 6. Again...the food was AWESOME we will be back...assuming we get a different table and have a baby sitter. (Note: When I made my reservation, I told the lady it was for "4 and an infant". She did not relay the high chair or lack of changing facilities to me. I didn't ask, I just assumed. Next time I have a Maiden Voyage to a restaurant, I will know to ask. Live and learn....)

Incredible experience- Chef Aaron's menu is creative and absolutely delicious. Staff was wonderful- and love the cocktails. Worth the drive from Baton Rouge or anywhere else.

Just got home from a phenomenal birthday meal! The refurbished cotton gin makes for a beautiful and intimate setting. We started with cocktails, the blueberry martini is divine! We had the baked Brie and shrimp appetizer, which we didn't have a drop left. :) I had the special which was an Icelandic cod, seared scallop slides, and a crab risotto. There aren't words for how decadent is was. My husband had the Filet Janohn, which he raved over. Between the amazing food and incredibly sweet service I will be returning for every special night out!

The best restaurant between Shreveport and Lafayette. Nothing in Natchitoches or Alexandria even comes close. BE SURE TO CALL FOR RESERVATIONS! This is an intimate and upscale restaurant despite its humble surroundings. I recommend the crab and avocado appetizer, the filet mignon, and a side of the grits (or shrimp and grits for the table). The loaded potatoes are good as well. The menu is always evolving so check for yummy seasonal fishes as well as specials.

Ok here we are visiting our daughter and boyfriend who live in Deville La which is not noted for good food and they recommend this restaurant that they went to for her birthday. I asked where is it located and they proceeded to tell me It is located in Boyce. Well we make a reservation and drive 45 minutes to Boyce which is the middle of no where. We park in the gravel lot and walk into this charming restaurant. We are greeted warmly and shown to our table. The wait staff is polite and attentive. We have some drinks and place our order. We tried the avocado with lump crab meat which was nicely presented and delicious. We ordered the sliced filet with mash potato and Jack Daniel sauce which was yummy. The filet was prepared perfectly. Our daughter ordered the steak Oscar which she loved. The chef came out to check that we were pleased with our selections. Nice touch. This was a nice surprise for us since the area is not know for its food selection or quality of places to eat anything other than fried fast food. We would definitely return on our next visit and would recommend it to anyone looking for a very nice evening with really good food presented by a very nice staff. Irwin Z

It kills me that there are no "1/2 stars" and that I have to give this place a "3". Let me first say I will definitely be back, to try more of the menu. After moving to this area a few years ago I miss places like this that I would go to back in Jersey, NYC, and DC...so it did give me a comparable dining experience...even the prices. I had the Duck Breast and sweet potatoes, it was pretty good! I really enjoyed the food, no problems there. Also had the oyster brie for an appetizer, it was cool, really didn't care for the boudin on it, but It was still a pretty amazing appetizer. But only if the level of service matched the prices. Our Waitress was pretty friendly, but I did not experience the level of service I had expected. The time gaps between being seated, opportunity to order appetizers, and receiving the main course was too far in between. I was never asked if I had dined before at the restaurant (which I had not), I actually had to interject to order appetizers, and table attentiveness was lacking. Nobody was rude or anything, just maybe some service aspects need to be revisited. This was a long overdue meal. CENLA lacks a diversity of "real" dining options, so I'm definitely this restaurant is in the area. I will definitely return.

So. We showed up around 6 on a Wednesday night to an almost-empty restaurant. The hostess, who was very friendly, asked if we had a reservation. We did not because they are not open Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays, and they don't open on Wednesdays until 5:00. So no...we hadn't made dinner plans for Wednesday the preceding Saturday. But, I figured, it would be no problem because the restaurant was nearly empty. The hostess hemmed and hawed and wasn't sure she could work us in and maybe she could squish us in at a small table. I actually thought she was joking, like some bad Saturday Night Live skit, but alas, it was just the awkward beginning to an awkward evening. So we kept our eyes on things. A few other groups showed up, but I don't think there were more than 5-6 other parties the while night. And it even says on either their website and Facebook pages (maybe both?) that they accept reservations, but encourage walk-ins. They were seriously short handed. We didn't get menus until we'd been seated for at least 20 minutes. The hostess was also the only server. The food was good, although the menu was limited. Half of my steak was seriously underdone (like purple on the inside; I had ordered medium). When you're paying these prices at a restaurant that has a pretty good variety of steaks, you expect your steak to be perfect. But things were moving so slowly that I was afraid if I said something, we'd never leave. Husband's loaded baked potato was delicious, kids' fries were beautiful but mealy, overcooked, and lacking flavor. The presentation of all the food was beautiful. I've had better food, but probably not in Cenla. My biggest suggestion would be if they expect people to make reservations, they should utilize Open Table or some other online reservation system because of their very limited hours. Also, if they want to charge big city prices for big city food, they need to up the professionalism (and maybe get rid of the kitschy appetizer wheel.)

I can't express the gratitude and graciousness of the food here! Hand touched with Love emanating from every bite! The owners have taken the time and given us the space to celebrate our space with a fantastic local fresh menu- along with the southern hospitality one would expect! A friendly environment and lovely staff. Perfect for date night or just a grand ole' get together with loved ones. Not to mention- the gallery of art is intense and indescribable. Get in to check out the artistry in the dishes as well as in the Mill. Thank you Aaron and Jessica! We LOVE it!

Janohns food is special. Recommendations: The crab/avocado appetizer is the best on the menu; the filet janohns is cooked TO PERFECTION as ordered; the sea bass special was outstanding...should be a permanent addition if supply is steady enough. We have gotten acceptable service at Janohns and do really like the friendly staff. I think adding one more hand in the mix would make the service more efficient. Existing staff is great, but at times has struggled to deliver service to match the food during busy times. This has improved over time however! Janohns has also improved decor and infrastructure over the last year and it has made a difference in the experience. I want Janohns to be great as the food is outstanding. Janohns is my favorite restaurant!

Was turned away at 9pm on a Saturday night when they're open till 11pm because their kitchen closes at that time. This information IS NOT posted on their website. My husband and I got all dressed up and intended to celebrate a special affair with a late dinner here to no avail. We had to rush all the way to Alexandria to find someplace else before everyone started closing. Don't think I'll ever return to see how the food is. I believe they could have been more accommodating for one couple who showed up on the dot. I'd rather spend my hard earned dollar on a business that appreciates my patronage and that's willing to go that extra mile for those special touches.

Found them on Yelp while traveling. We drove 2 hours to eat, craving some good Cajun food(reviews recommended this place), and we were turned away because we did not have a reservation. Nothing was posted on Yelp, their website says they take reservations, but says nothing about REQUIRING reservations. I travel this way a lot, not sure I will make the 1.3 mile trip off the highway again.

I have been here three times so far and every time it has been excellent. For the longest time I looked for a really good place to eat in Alexandria and never found one. I was frustrated until I found this one. The food is all delicious. The menu can vary a bit so I will not go into particular dishes. The service has always been good and the staff and chef are quite friendly and make you feel like family. I live in New Orleans but I do travel quite a bit and eat out quite often. Food is prepared creatively, beatifully presented, and the price is right on. This is the best place to eat in Central Louisiana. I will be back.

Updating my review. I've since been back here 2 more times. The service has gotten much better. There are still some items which are over prices for what you get but this place really does have more to offer than any restaurant in a 50 mile radius. Original review: First let me say that the food here is pretty good and I would say it is nearing amazing for Alexandria. There are a few things on and about the menu that could be better but their real problem is the service. We've been to Janohn's 4 times and each time the service was horrible. The worst of the four was when the waitress dropped my wife's plate, then since the steak and some of the asparagus were still on the plate, pushed the remaining food back on the plate with here fingers and handed my wife the dish to eat. Several of our party of 6 had steak and 2 of us had to wait. This restaurant should also be rated at 4 dollar signs not the currently listed 3. For example the side asparagus dish comes with 6 little asparagus and is $6. Another small annoyance is that cocktails are $12 each as if we were in a true cocktail bar, but the glassware consisted of martini glasses and lame little aluminum stoli branded mugs. I don't want to drink a $12 cocktail out of a mug. If you are going to charge like a real cocktail bar, learn the correct glassware to serve your drinks in.

I would consider myself a well traveled foodie to a lesser extent than others and this is a restaurant I always keep going back to. I grew up in Alexandria and now live in New Orleans. I dont think central louisiana has ever had an innovative restaurant that has the character and creativity from a chef like Janohns. Ive met the chef personally a few times and I just cant vouch enough for what an exceptional person he is to be around. The wait staff are great people, service is very friendly and top notch. The food is very good. Theres always fresh seafood and when I go back home I always try the special. Drum, crab, scallops, trout, redfish, tuna and shrimp from the gulf is delicious. Ive never left dissapointed. The drinks are also good, i like the mint julep. If you want a true southern/lousiana dining experience then this is the place. Growing up in the boyce area, it recreates the memories of my childhood. The building has the cotton gin feel to it and a true southern vibe in between those metal walls. It always reminds me of driving to boyce to sell the pecans I picked as a child. It just feels like home and its pretty much the best restaurant north of i10 that ive ever eaten at. If you are making the drive down i49 or just in alexandria for a visit, I highly recommend Janohns! This place is a gem for any traveller or local.

First this is my favorite place to eat in the cenla area. My wife and I have eaten here 4 times and have never been unsatisfied with the food or service. The filet jack is delicious and the chef offers various specials that are worth trying. This is a short drive from Alexandria but well worth it. Don't be deceived by the outside appearance, give it a try.

An intimate restaurant with great food. Emphasis here is on good, fresh ingredients, prepared simply. They aren't all local- many ingredients are sourced all over the country. But the end result is fantastic. Amazing wine list, including several excellent european wines. All things considered, the price is a relative bargain- dinner for four, including appetizers and wine came to $200. This kind of restaurant wouldn't be out of place in New Orleans, Houston or Atlanta.. what it's doing in Boyce is a mystery.
